Cell organelle power point

 1. 1. Cells
 2. 2. Cell Wall

Rigid outer cover found outside the cell membrane and ONLY in plant cells.

Helps to protect and support the cell. Gives the cell its shape.

 3. 3. Cell Membrane

The covering that surrounds the cell and holds it together. Protects the cell and determines what is allowed to enter and exit the cell.

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 4. 4. Nucleus

Controls the cells activities. (Brain)

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 5. 5. Nuclear Membrane

Protects the nucleus.

Controls what goes into and out of the nucleus.

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 6. 6. Chromatin

Found in the nucleus and contains instructions for carrying out the cell’s activities.

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 7. 7. Nucleolus

Inside the nucleus where ribosomes are made.

Found in … ??? Think about it… do you think the nucleolus is in a plant cell, animal cell or both??

 8. 8. Cytoplasm

The living material between the cell membrane and the nucleus. Clear, thick, gel-like fluid.

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 9. 9. Mitochondria

The organelles that release energy. (Powerhouse)

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 10. 10. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)

Tube like canals that run through the cytoplasm.

Carry protein and other materials from one part of the cell to another.

The largest organelle in the cytoplasm that connects the cell membrane and the nuclear membrane.

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 11. 11. Ribosome

The organelles that make protein.

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 12. 12. Chloroplasts

Large, green, oval shaped organelles in which photosynthesis takes place.

ONLY found in plant cells.

 13. 13. Vacuole

Large, round, water-filled sac floating in the cytoplasm.

The storage area of the cell. (Stores food and other materials)

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.

 14. 14. Lysosome

Contain chemicals that break down large food particles and worn-out cell parts.

Found MOST in animal cells.

 15. 15. Golgi Bodies

The organelle receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the ER, packages them, and distributes them to other parts of the cell.

Stores and releases chemicals.

Like the Post Office of the cell.

Found in BOTH plant and animal cells.
