Furnace Repair In Coquitlam
Furnaces are not designed to last forever. Furnace problems will only get worse if they are left
untreated. That is why furnace repair in Coquitlam is something that needs to be performed as soon
as possible. Below are some signs that it is time to get your furnace repaired: Your Furnace Is Not
Keeping Your Home Warm Enough There are several things that can cause your furnace to not
warm your home properly. You should check your thermostat and make sure it is on the right
settings. If your thermostat is not the problem, then you should call a professional. There may be a
problem with the pilot light. You may also have leaky ducts. Unusual Noises It is normal for
furnaces to make some noises. Your furnace will always make noise when you

Energy Conservation at Home
What is "energy"? Where does it come from? And how do we pay for it? When you learn the
answers to these questions, you can also learn how to live more efficiently in your home. In this
article, we 'll discuss how to be smart about how you use energy, how to know when to turn
electrical power on and off, and how to use natural gas, propane, and fuel oil in the most effective
way.
Basic Concepts of Energy Efficiency
You can make a lot of progress toward improving the energy efficiency in your home by simply
plugging the many places through which air can get in or get out. Plugging your home is called "air
sealing," and it is one of the most important first steps to take when weatherizing your house to
increase its energy efficiency. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His line of reasoning was that, by reducing the temperature in our homes, we could conserve heating
fuel.
President Carter 's words of nearly 30 years ago still ring true today: The best way to conserve
energy is to not use so much of it. And one of the best ways of reducing the use of heating fuel in
the home is to simply turn down the thermostat.
Because space heating constitutes the largest energy expenditure in many homes, even a little
conservation of heating fuel goes a long way toward achieving a lower utility bill. Dialing down the
thermostat one degree during the winter can result in about 1 to 3 percent less fuel use, and a similar
reduction in your heating bill.
A furnace or boiler has to maintain a differential in temperature between the inside of the house and
the outdoors in order for the house to feel comfortable. On cold days that difference can be as much
as 50 to 60 degrees (say, 20 outside and 70 inside). Any time the differential can be reduced, even
by a degree or two, the heating system comes on less often, less fuel is burned, and savings result.
The downside of turning down a thermostat, of course, is that the house is cooler. But Carter had a
solution for that –– simply slip on a sweater. That makes sense, too. Instead of turning up the heat to
increase the overall warmth in the huge volume of space inside the house, you can simply increase
your personal insulation to help retain

How a Steel Mill Works
How A Steel Mill Works
The principal consumables employed in steel production are iron ore, coal, scrap metal and
electrical energy. The importance of each of these consumables depends upon the technological
processes adopted at each mill. In a classic integrated mill, coal and iron ore are the main
consumables.
In semi–integrated mills, scrap iron is the mainstay.
An integrated mill comprises four basic operations – reduction, refining, solidification, and rolling –
to convert iron ore into semi–finished or finished (rolled) steel products.
Reduction The objective is to convert iron ore – naturally occurring in the form of ferrous oxide –
into pig iron.
In this operation, a coker converts coal into coke that is

Among these are refractories, electrodes, and alloying elements.
Refractories are materials that work as thermal isolators and are used to coat critical steel mill
equipment such as blast furnaces, ladles, and converters.
Their main function is to protect the equipment from extreme temperatures and to minimize wear
and tear.
Electrodes constitute an important input in the operation of electric steel mills.
Alloying elements Metals such as zinc, tin, chrome and aluminum are employed in steel alloy
production.
A steel mill uses industrial gases extensively. In addition to the jet of oxygen–fed converters in
integrated mills, oxygen is frequently injected into blast furnaces and electric furnances to improve
overall operating conditions. Given the volume of oxygen utilized, steel mills usually house one or
more oxygen producing units. This used to be integrated vertically into the steelworks themselves.
However, in recent years, initiatives have been widely employed to outsource this operation to
specialized companies.
There are also non–integrated manufacturers which operate via a single processing phase: reduction
or rolling.
In the first case are pig iron producers, the so–called ironers, that utilize coal in blast furnaces to
make pig iron. In the second case are the re–rollers of plates and billets acquired from integrated or

Escape From Furnace
The series I'm reviewing is called Escape from Furnace by the UK author Alexander Gordon Smith.
The book is written in the main character, Alex Sawyer's, point of view. Alex is not a very good
person, but the reason he was sent to furnace was for the framed death of his best friend Toby. Alex's
fate was decided when he started his life sentence, and was lowered into the bowels of the
underground Penitentiary. The thief–turned–inmate, Alex Sawyer, meets Zee, who was framed for
murder, and Donovan, who murdered his mother's abusive boyfriend. They start planning their
escape when Alex feels a draft come from a collapsed chipping room. Alex, Zee, and Donovan
smuggle gas to blow a hole, but the day before the planned escape, Donovan gets dragged away by

Gary was dragged into the operation room and filled with sickly poison. A half transformed beast,
Simon rescues them and they plan their next escape. The team finds the incinerator. The only way
that smoke goes is up, so to escape from the fiery pits of Furnace they plan to climb up.
Accidentally they run into the rat's nest. Rats are children filled with the Wardens poison, nectar, but
their mind was wiped of all emotion except Hatred. Getting the rats out of their nest they make caos
for the Black Suits, prison guards that have been packed full of flesh and nectar, and they begin the
long climb up the incinerator. It was too late, the Warden flipped on the incinerator, Alex, Zee, and
Simon fell to what they believed was their death, but what was coming after was even worse. The
Warden filled Alex with the nectar. The nectar would strip away his mind, make him believe his
home was Furnace, but if you refused to forget your name, the your memories would stay. Alex

Combustion In A Furnace Essay
i) Combustion in the furnace (for heating): Most furnaces burn fuel oil or natural gas as fuel. During
this combustion process, oxygen combines with fuel molecules to produce water, carbon dioxide
and heat. The heat is what is passed through combustion chamber and provides heating. To
maximize the efficiency of fuel burning furnaces, it is important that the right amount of products
are used so there is no excess product remaining after the combustion reaction. In the combustion
reaction, in furnaces, the air to fuel ratio is used. It is the ratio of the mass of air required to
completely combust a given mass of fuel. The use of chemical calculations and quantities in this
process allows maximum performance of furnace for heating, while saving money.
ii) Anesthesia: The dosage of anesthetic necessary for a person to undergo a painful surgery,
successfully, varies by person. Each patient needs a specific amount and type of anesthetic which
depends on age, body type and the length of the surgery. An anesthesiologist has to work through
percentages, ratios and metric conversions to figure out how much anesthesia a patient needs, while
keeping the three factors in mind. Formulas are used to calculate the maximum allowable volume
based on the weight/age of the patient and the type/concentration of the anesthesia. Precise
calculations of anesthetic are required, as they can determine the outcome of a surgery. If too much
anesthesia is given to a person, it can lead to serious

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Reciprocating Compressors
For lower flow rates during holding mode, reciprocating compressors are usually a good fit because
of their efficient turndown capabilities. They cater to a wider range of flow rates than any other
compressor type.
For large scale terminals, to cater higher BoG flow rate during unloading, centrifugal compressors
are appropriate. Multiple (2 or 3) compressors are installed in parallel so that shutdown of any one
of them does not hamper the operation. Depending on the tank type, reciprocating compressors can
be used if the tank is concrete roof tank. Those tanks generally are operated at higher pressures and
therefore, vapour generation is significantly low and hence reciprocating compressors can be used
even for unloading mode.

The simple and modular design of SCV's make capital cost of SCV's much lower than ORV's. But,
operating cost of SCV's is much higher than ORV's because of use of natural gas as a fuel. Typically
about 1.5% of the vaporized LNG is used up for running SCV's.
 Shell and tube vaporizers
Shell and tube vaporizers (STV) involve 2 levels of heat transfer, where, first level is heat exchange
between LNG and intermediate fluid like propane and the second level is heat exchange between
intermediate fluid and sea–water. The surface areas of the heat exchangers are optimized to have
maximum heat exchange. The major advantage of STV's is, they prevent freezing (unlike ORV's)
and reduce fouling risks. But of course, they are costly because of use of intermediate fluid like
propane.
 Ambient air vaporizers
The emissions because of SCV's and unknowns associated with ORV's has made companies focus
on something which is reliable and cheap and renewable and hence, companies are focussing on
ambient air vaporizers which use ambient air as a source of heat transfer. The technology of using
ambient air for LNG vaporization was there in the market before, but for smaller scales. The recent
advancements has made it possible to use it at larger scales as well. The impact of temperature and
climate is an important factor for designing ambient air vaporizers. The technology is considered
'green' because it has no emissions and makes use of solar heat stored in air as a heat transfer

Steel Mill Immigrants Of Industrial America
For many Americans, the late nineteenth century was a time of big business, marked by economic
and social evolution. In the period between the 1880 and 1920, the American economy was growing
at a rapid pace. Many European immigrants without industrial skills flooded into American factories
and steel mills. These new comer's came in search of better economic opportunity, which paved the
way for Heavy, low paying labor that became the job description of the era for many immigrants.

The Components Of The Gas Suspension Preheater
The key component of the gas–suspension preheater is the cyclone. A cyclone is a conical vessel
into which a dust–bearing gas–stream is passed tangentially. This produces a vortex within the
vessel. The gas leaves the vessel through a co–axial "vortex–finder". The solids are thrown to the
outside edge of the vessel by centrifugal action, and leave through a valve in the vertex of the cone.
Cyclones were originally used to clean up the dust–laden gases leaving simple dry process kilns. If,
instead, the entire feed of rawmix is encouraged to pass through the cyclone, it is found that a very
efficient heat exchange takes place: the gas is efficiently cooled, hence producing less waste of heat
to the atmosphere, and the rawmix is efficiently heated. This efficiency is further increased if a
number of cyclones are connected in series
The number of cyclones stages used in practice varies from 1 to 6. Energy, in the form of fan–
power, is required to draw the gases through the string of cyclones, and at a string of 6 cyclones, the
cost of the added fan–power needed for an extra cyclone exceeds the efficiency advantage gained.
ROTARY KILN :THE HEART OF CEMENT MANUFACTURING
The kiln is a cylindrical vessel, inclined slightly to the horizontal, which is rotated slowly about its
axis. The material to be processed is fed into the upper end of the cylinder. As the kiln rotates,
material gradually moves down towards the lower end, and may undergo a certain amount of
stirring

1. EVAPORATIVE COOLING
One effective form of air conditioning, which is fitting for less humid states of Australia and is
based on the evaporation of water, is evaporative cooling. When water evaporates, this system
absorbs warmth from its surroundings, which then cools the surrounding environment down. These
sorts of units are usually mounted on roofs. Evaporative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because refrigerated cooling results in dry air and uses chemicals, which may harm the
environment if released into the atmosphere. Evaporative cooling is a very healthy way to cool
because it replaces stale air with clean, fresh air many times an hour.
2. GAS DUCTED HEATING
This is a gas fuelled heating system, which produces heat to more than one room. This system can
also cool your home. This system draws air from inside homes within a heat exchanger for
immediate heating and circulation through openings in floors or ceilings of houses. Gas ducted
heating has many positives one being that it is highly efficient and cost effective. Also it requires
minimal maintenance.
Floor registers are often positioned near outside walls to allow heat to fully flow back through your
home. Ceiling registers are placed centrally in a room or between the center and external walls.
Benefits for the house is that this system is designed to heat every room, meaning no cold spots in
the house, resulting in a much more comfortable home. It is also highly efficient is all weather
which is different to reverse cycle systems that are likely to lose efficiency when the temperature
really drops outside but ducted gas systems remain unaffected. This reduces

Out Of This Furnace Analysis
The book "Out of This Furnace" by Thomas Bell tells stories of three generations of an immigrant
family in the 19th century. The first part of the book is about the story of Kracha, our first
protagonist. Kracha left Slovakia to come to America for more opportunities. As Kracha settled in
America, he married Elena. Life in the United States was rough for the Kracha's family, and it
turned out just as difficult as in his homeland. Kracha worked different jobs and realized that they
were all low wage. He ended up working at the Mills.
The next story is about Kracha's son in law, Mike Dobrejcak who married to Mary. When Mike was
killed in a terrible accident at the Mills, Mary had to do her best to raise their children. The next
story is about Dobie, one of Mary's sons. As the story progresses the next generation has an easier
life than the previous one. However, they struggled to make a living. For example, Dobie did illegal
work for a living.
The experiences of George Kracha were very similar to those experiences of many immigrants to
the United States in the late 19th century. The Narrator state "Kracha left his Hungarian village
because he had no other choices, it may be that he hoped he was likewise leaving behind the endless
poverty in Franz Josef's empire"(Bell, p3). Kracha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Questions On Accounting And Auditing Issues
Introduction:
After visiting the company, we found some accounting and auditing issues that come to our
attention. So we prepared a memo for Mr. Kovacs as a result of our visit to make him be aware of
these potential problems.
Accounting issues:
The owners of the company believe that WHCL will be poised to be a major player in the Canadian
and the US heating and cooling markets in three years. However, after collecting information and
auditing all the financial statement, we found that there is numerous issues need to be concerned for
WHCL in recent years.
1. Covenants:
We can notice that in the early fiscal 2000, WHCL increased its debt significantly, and the company
had attached several covenants specifying that debt–to–equity ratio ... Show more content on

But this would certainly increase the audit risk. If the company has violated the covenants, the
auditor should disclose that in the financial statement.
Exhibit 1 Current Ratio Debt–To–Equity Ratio
1999 1347/895=1.505 1420/1257=1.12
2000 1446/1149=1.25 1974/1007=1.96
2. Warranty (Estimated Expense):
In 1994, WHCL introduced a new model of gas furnace and these products are sold with ten–year
warranties on parts and labor. Although this marketing strategy can attract more customers to buy
their product, the increased long–term warranty claims will increase company's warranty expense,
and lower their future profit.
The most serious accounting problem for WHCL is the warranty potential liability. The increasing
liability concern is because WHCL sold a new model of gas furnace with 10–year warranties in
1994. So we need to consider how much repair costs should be reported in the 2000 financial
statements. As we know, cost of repairing each furnace was $150, and there are 30 claims were
made. So we need to record 30 x $150=$4500 in warranty expenses in 2000 financial statement.
Another problem for us is the information we currently collect cannot let us make an accurate
estimate. Apparently, WHCL don 't want to record too much costs in current period, but the fact is
they require a large amount of accrual. If the estimate is low, then the costs we

Why Did God Give Nebuchadnezzar Siege Jerusalem?
The book of Daniel is the 29th book in the bible. It shows the people of Israel and Babylon what he

Babylonians that God is glorious over the whole world and not Babylonians god? I have some
questions regarding King Nebuchadnezzar in the book of David. Why did King Nebuchadnezzar

upset with Nebuchadnezzar because he was wicked enough to kill his own people if they could not

What was the meaning of the four different kingdoms? What was the kingdom that would bring all
the other kingdoms to an end? If Nebuchadnezzar believed that Daniel's God was the God of gods,
then why did he still have a golden statue made for his god? Was God also upset with
Nebuchadnezzar for worshiping another god? Was God upset that he threw three of the wise men

Analysis Of Out Of This Furnace
Immigrants coming to America in the late 1800's had an idea of what it might be like in the land of
opportunity, but the harsh reality of the living conditions during this time only became apparent
when they reached the shore. In Thomas Bell's novel, Out of This Furnace, he describes the
hardships Slovak immigrants faced throughout generations living in the industrial towns. Through
Bell's novel he clearly depicts the mindsets of each generation and how they changed their attitudes
and thinking to better succeed and escape poverty. Bell's story begins with an immigrant named
George Kracha, who left behind everything to work in Pennsylvania alongside his brother–in–law in
an industrial town. "He left behind him in a Hungarian village a young wife, a sister and a widowed
mother; it may be that he hoped he was likewise leaving behind the endless poverty and oppression
which were the birthrights of a Slovak peasant in Franz Josef's empire" (3). Kracha had enough
money to get him to White Haven, but his poor judgement and false expectations got the best of him
and it was quickly burned through; "unfortunately no one had thought to warn him against his own
taste for whisky and against dark women who became 19 years of age in the middle of the ocean"
(4). By writing about how much immigrants were willing to sacrifice to come to America and what
expectations they had, as well as the harsh realities they faced, Bell is effective and correctly
portrays what life was like for a new

Each unit requires a specific level of refrigerant. The specific charge of refrigerant is required for
the optimal heat exchange, and when the level is low, serious issues occur in the air conditioner.
The signs of low refrigerant include air not as cold as it should be or the AC blowing warm air as
mentioned, and frost and/or ice along the coil and refrigerant lines. Low refrigerant can result in
damage to the system, possibly permanent requiring new AC installation. The highest risk of
damage is to the compressor, a major component, and a costly one to replace. Low coolant can
result in the compressor overheating and burnout of the compressor. Typically, when the compressor
goes out, a new system is installed.
A Frozen Evaporator Coil can be due to several different issues. Do not attempt to operate the
system until the coil has thawed to avoid damage to the compressor. Common causes include the
following:
A dirty air filter can restrict the air flow. Change the filter as recommended by the manufacturer,
and only use the recommended filter.
Cleaning a dirty evaporator coil when required part of professional maintenance. Scheduling
annual maintenance enables the technician to clean the coil when required, and provides an efficient

If the furnace is unable to light it will make that clicking sound as the furnace tries to ignite. The
motor bearings can also cause your furnace to click, which could lead to the motor to burn out and

clicking sound from a faulty pilot light. This sound is caused by excessive gas building up in the
furnace when trying to light. When the pilot light finally does work, the gas ignites and actually
creates a small explosion in your furnace. This is the type of sound that is not normal and will
require professional help to fix. Whistling Do you hear the faint sound of whistling coming from
your furnace? This is an indication that the air filter is clogged. Air is trying to find its way through
the small unclogged places of the air filter and creating a whistling sound in the process. Fixing this
sound is as simple as replacing the air filter, which you should be doing every 1 to 3 months
depending on how much you use your furnace. Furnace Smells Furnace smells could require

Gas Furnace Or Faulty Ignitor
Many homeowners have experienced the frustration of attempting to turn their furnace on, only to
not have it start up. When you have a gas furnace this failure to start can be due to a few things, one
of these is a broken or faulty ignitor.
If your gas furnace pilot light won't light it could be due to a broken ignitor, contact the team at

According to the manufacturer, the type of SiC particles is green hexagonal, which means they are
of the type α–SiC. Therefore, I think we need to look at the properties for this type of SiC only.
Before this, for choosing the value of CTE for SiC, I used the room temperature values declared on
Table 3 of the 1997 publication by R.G. Munro, which is attached to this message. For room
temperature the value 1.1 and for 500°C the value 4.4 is given. I noticed that for all other
experimental CTEs as well as theoretical assumptions, I am using CTE values that are averaged
between room temperature and elevated temperatures. Therefore, it makes sense to me to average
these two values and use the number 2.75 for CTE of this type of SiC particles. ... Show more

thermal shock phenomena. This experimental research could be generally designed in three ways:
1– Apply one temperature profile to multiple types of refractory and characterize the response of the
refractories.
2– Apply multiple temperature profiles to one type of refractory and characterize the impact of the

Broken Furnace Research Paper
With summer coming to a close you can expect cooler temperatures to set in. Make sure your
furnace is working properly, so you can enter fall and winter knowing your heater will do its best
job. Make sure that you perform a thorough inspection on your heater. If your furnace is not
working properly you risk carbon monoxide exposure. The furnace can actually pump the deadly
gas into your home if it is working improperly. A less serious issue is that your furnace can turn off
on a cool morning. There is nothing worse than waking up on a bitter winter morning to a broken
furnace. If you inspect the machine prior to the cold temperatures, the chances of it breaking down
are less likely. Another important step that you should take is changing

Best Heating Solutions for Your Home
Levine Heating– Best Heating Solutions for Your Home
If you are looking for solutions for heating inside your home, you need to first understand the basic
differences between a boiler and a furnace. If you have no idea about what we are talking about, do
not worry at all. It is completely normal to not have proper understanding of such technical
terminology. It is why Levine Heating is there to take care of all your worries.
The basic concept of Boiler
A boiler is the heating system that requires water or steam to function properly. The boiler uses heat
to bring water to boil to 180 degrees. Then the water is carried towards the radiator through the
pipes with the help of a circulator. If the boiler is based on steam system, the water is transformed
into steam which is transferred to the radiators with help of the pipes. The boiler system is also
compatible with floor heating system. Some boilers heat up a coil to increase the temperature of the
air.
To run a boiler you can choose from one of these energy options including gas, electricity, boiler oil
and wood pellets. Levine Heating has been dealing in boiler heating since a while now. Boilers
continue to be many homeowners first choice when it comes to heating up the inside. Although
installing a boiler could cost you much higher than getting a furnace installed. But the maintenance
cost makes up for it. A boiler is more energy efficient and constant provider of heat when compared
to a furnace. Boiler uses no blowers

Be sure to shop around when looking for someone to install your furnace. You want to make sure
you get someone that is qualified for the job. Asking for a resume of the installer is a great to see
what that persons work is like. You don't want to get someone who doesn't care or doesn't know
what they are doing when installing your furnace. Miss–installation can result in severe problems
with your furnace and even catastrophic problems with your home, including house fire. So it is
extremely important you take special care when choosing someone to install your furnace. Also a lot
of common furnace problems such as, the furnace not running right, or the furnace does not run
according to the thermostat setting, can be avoided with proper installation. It is not recommended
for anyone to try and install a home heating furnace unless you're a licensed professional. Also

Heating For Heating Building Or House
Many technologies are available for heating building or house. Boilers are pressure vessels intended
to heat water or deliver steam which can then be used to give space heating and additionally benefit
water heating to a building. In most business building heating applications, the heating source in the
boiler is a natural gas fired burner. Oil fired burners and electric resistance radiators can be used too.
Steam is favored over heated water in a few applications, counting absorption cooling, kitchens,
laundries, sterilizers, and steam driven hardware. Boilers have a few qualities that have made them a
typical component of buildings. They have a long life, can accomplish efficiencies up to 95% or
more, give a powerful strategy for heating a building and on account of steam systems, require little
or no pumping energy. Otherwise, fuel costs can be significant, regular maintenance is required, and
if support is deferred, repair can be exorbitant. Boilers are regularly one of the biggest energy users
in a building. For consistently a boiler system goes unattended, boiler expenses can increase around
10%. Boiler operation and maintenance are in this way a decent place to begin when searching for
approaches to reduce energy use and save money.
1.1 How boilers work Both gas and oil fired boilers use controlled burning of the fuel to heat water.

Generation Of Pu
3.)Generation of pu – mu interaction curves: The magnitude of Pu determines the neutral axis. On
location of the neutral axis the strain distribution is known. This can then be used to solve for the
value of Pu and the ultimate moment Mu. It is therefore obvious that the solution to the above set of
equations can be found as a closed form solution. This is because the location of the neutral axis is
required for the calculation of the normal force Pu, while the value of Pu is itself required for the
location of the neural axis. For the purpose of developing the interaction curves the location the
neutral axis is assumed and the values of the normal force and the moment are calculated. The
neutral axis is then changed to calculate a new set of Pu and Mu. This is repeated to get the
interaction curves of PuVs Mu. The figure no. 1 shows the interaction curve for d/Dfrom were area

i. Select various outer diameter D inner diameter d and cover c to generate various cases of Pu– Mu
interaction curves for d/D and D'/D ratios for chimney. Total 27 cases are generated. ii. Assume the
location of neutral axis in the cross section for various cases from 0.1d to 1d. iii. Various
percentages of steel (P%) from 0.25% to 55.5% of steel is taken to generate interaction curves of
various cases of p/fck, Total 1100 cases are taken for designing of chimneys.

Furnace Breaking Research Paper
Usually, furnaces don't often break down. Durable, sturdy and made to last for almost a lifetime,
owners can count on them working when they need them the most––especially when cold weather
sets in as it often does in Galena and surrounding parts of Ohio.
But, be it as it is, life happens. Fortunately, there are a few tell–tale signs of a coming furnace
breakdown and listed below are some of the most common indicated problems.
Thermostat Problems: If the unit is a digital or programmable thermostat, this may be a sure sign
that perhaps an old battery needs replacement with a new one. Start there before calling a service
man; otherwise, if the battery is brand new, call a certified HVAC repair company.
Ignition Problems: A failure to turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A Blower That Won't Stop Running: Making sure the thermostat is set to "auto" and not to "off," is
the first step. However, there are numerous other things that may be taking place, and a professional
technician is the way to go to make sure it's not something more serious––and costly.
Short–Cycle Operation: A wrong–sized furnace often is the problem for some homes. Especially, if
it's too large for the house, a problem will surely arise. However, a short–cycle operation may also
be a sign of a system blockage. After checking the size and type of the furnace filter, call a HVAC
technician as soon as possible.
Not Enough or No Heat Being Produced: Starting with the filters first, check with the power supply
next. This could indicate whether there's a unit malfunction or a failing ignition. Needless to say,
call a qualified technician.
Unlit Pilot Light: Commonly occurring when there's a failed thermocouple, a clogged gas supply or
because it was simply blown out by a strong draft, please call a technician if not fully comfortable in
relighting the pilot

Energy : The Use Of Energy In Everyday Life
What is energy? Energy is the ability to do work, it is the "power that comes from the use of
physical or chemical resources." In your home energy can come in many forms such as heat, light,
and even electricity. The problem is some of us, meaning people, in general, know little to anything
about the word energy itself. When we think about energy, we think about the energy it takes to get
up in the morning. Sometimes as students we do not notice how much, and when we use energy. We
use energy in everyday life, and it is very important to understand that.
In my household, our energy sources consist of natural gas and electricity. The Hot Water Heater
that we use to heat our water, is generated by natural gas. Natural gas is a type of energy that comes
from deep beneath the earth's surface. Along with heating our water, it helps with washing clothes in
our washing machine and even helps dry those clothes. We also have a dishwasher that makes use of
both hot water and electricity. My mother stated that "She enjoys having a Natural gas water heater
because it helps with saving money". Generally Natural gas is cheaper than electricity when
working with water. At some point in being an adult, you have to consider the cost of things and
even the benefits that come along with it. That is what my parents did because it has been almost
four to five years living in our household and our Hot water heater has not gone out once.
On the other hand, in my household, we use the source of

The For Good Quality Cement
The clinker coming out of the kiln is at temperatures of around 1400oC. For good quality cement,
this temperature has to be brought down to around 200oC in a limited period of time. Thus it is
brought in contact with a cross circulation heat exchanging cooler.
The heat of the incoming clinker is recuperated in the secondary air at an efficiency which usually
lies within 65% to 70
The clinker cooler has the following main functions:
1. Recuperate the clinker heat by heating up the combustion air (secondary and tertiary air)
2. Maintain a minimum cooling velocity in order to avoid unfavorable mineralogical clinker phases
and crystal size
3. Facilitate clinker handling and storage.
Three groups of coolers can be defined according to their working principle:
A. On a grate cooler the clinker forms a bed which is transported along the grate by different
mechanisms. The cooling air is blown from below the grate by fans and passes through the clinker
bed in cross current. Only a Dart of this air can be used as combustion air, the rest of it has to be
dedusted and wasted, unless it can be used for another purpose (e.g. raw material or coal drying,
fuel oil preheating, heating of buildings, warm water preparation, etc.).
B. The operating principle of a tube cooler is quite similar to the one of a rotary kiln: the material
and the cooling air are led in counter current through one or more slightly inclined rotating tubes.
Special lifters are installed which increase the active heat

Sloss Furnace Research Paper
" Sloss Furnace is haunted by one of the most evil, murderous ghosts of all time." The Birmingham
Police have over 100 recorded reports of unexplainable activity that has been experienced by people
while at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama over the years. And
those are just the ones that have been reported. Between the years of 1882 to 1971 Sloss Furnace,
and its employees, were tasked with turning coal and ore into steel. That steel went on to shape the
industrial revolution, from New York skyscrapers, to bridges in the south, Sloss Furnace had a hand
in it all. Sloss was known as an inhumanly terrible place to work, and the worst of the worst was the
Graveyard Shift foreman, James "Slag" Wormwood. "During the stifling summer months,
temperatures throughout the plant would reach more than 120 degrees. Lack of sleep, the heat, and
low visibility made working the furnace literally a "living hell" and only the poorest of workers,

The Sermon Of The Fiery Furnace
One of the most central ideas found in the Bible is the concept of faith. However, faith used in
Biblical terms is much broader than that. Faith is a commitment built on belief and trust. Stories of
faith can be found throughout the Old Testament. Faith is not only our commitment and trust in
God, and also God's commitment to us. Youngblood defines faith as "the complete dependence on a
dependable, and trustworthy God." This paper will view the story of the fiery furnace, my step of
faith in coming to Crown College, and God's faithfulness to His people.
The story of the fiery furnace begins in the land of Judah with the evil king Jehoiakim. Due to his
evil ways, the land of Judah is conquered by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar
took some of the men from Judah back to Babylon. He then had some of these Jewish captives
taught and cultivated in Babylonian ways. Of these men were Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and
Abed–nego, who followed the Lord of Israel. These four men were favorable to the king, however,
this story will focus on Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed– nego, and placed in positions of high power.
They served the king well, until one fateful day when the king made them choose between him and
their God.
King Nebuchadnezzar was a man who did not know the Lord. He built an idol and ordered all of the
noble people to gather and worship it. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed– nego were among these
people and were gathered to the idol to worship it.

Basics Of Steel Making : Oxygen Steelmaking And Electric...
As mentioned in the introductory part, there are two basics of steel making: oxygen steelmaking and
electric arc furnace. Steel manufacturing sites, sometimes–called integrated sites, use blast furnace
to refine iron ore into steel. The most basic process applied by most steel manufacturing companies
if the Basic Oxygen Furnace to change iron into steel. At the site of production, liquid iron flows
into the BOF section where pure oxygen is blown into the iron at very high speed. The oxygen
comes in through a lance put at the entrance of the BOF. This oxygen serves to eliminate carbon and
other impurities. The next step involves the addition of lime and certain fluxes to transform it into a
liquid slag that absorbs impurities. Addition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second basic in steel making is electric steelmaking. In this process, there is the employment of
electric arc furnaces. The type of furnace takes steel scrap, DRI, HBI, or pig iron as mentioned in
the introduction. These forms of iron are solid; therefore, an electric arc furnace melts them to
produce steel. In the EAF, electricity is the main source of energy used to melt steel scrap (Engineer
's Handbook, 2004). Some furnaces may use oxygen, carbon and hydrocarbon fuels to speed up the
process. In this process, there is no need to remove much carbon, as is the case in the BOF process.
However, some impurities should be removed to increase the purity of the final steel produced.
Regardless of the process used in steel making: integrated sites or EAF, the most important thing is
the economics, location or history. Available literature shows that at the beginning of steelmaking,
there was evidently little scrap traces. However, in today's production, it is hard to meet the
demands for steel. The implication is that depletion is taking effect in steelmaking processes.
Secondary Steelmaking Process Essentially, steel produced using the two processes discussed
initially is the same except for minimal differences that are crucial only in special grades. These
procedures of steelmaking are a bit different at the secondary stages of steelmaking. Secondary
stages are called ladle metallurgy. The process happens after the tapping the crude steel from the

  • 2. Energy Conservation at Home What is "energy"? Where does it come from? And how do we pay for it? When you learn the answers to these questions, you can also learn how to live more efficiently in your home. In this article, we 'll discuss how to be smart about how you use energy, how to know when to turn electrical power on and off, and how to use natural gas, propane, and fuel oil in the most effective way. Basic Concepts of Energy Efficiency You can make a lot of progress toward improving the energy efficiency in your home by simply plugging the many places through which air can get in or get out. Plugging your home is called "air sealing," and it is one of the most important first steps to take when weatherizing your house to increase its energy efficiency. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His line of reasoning was that, by reducing the temperature in our homes, we could conserve heating fuel. President Carter 's words of nearly 30 years ago still ring true today: The best way to conserve energy is to not use so much of it. And one of the best ways of reducing the use of heating fuel in the home is to simply turn down the thermostat. Because space heating constitutes the largest energy expenditure in many homes, even a little conservation of heating fuel goes a long way toward achieving a lower utility bill. Dialing down the thermostat one degree during the winter can result in about 1 to 3 percent less fuel use, and a similar reduction in your heating bill. A furnace or boiler has to maintain a differential in temperature between the inside of the house and the outdoors in order for the house to feel comfortable. On cold days that difference can be as much as 50 to 60 degrees (say, 20 outside and 70 inside). Any time the differential can be reduced, even by a degree or two, the heating system comes on less often, less fuel is burned, and savings result. The downside of turning down a thermostat, of course, is that the house is cooler. But Carter had a solution for that –– simply slip on a sweater. That makes sense, too. Instead of turning up the heat to increase the overall warmth in the huge volume of space inside the house, you can simply increase your personal insulation to help retain ... • 4. How a Steel Mill Works How A Steel Mill Works The principal consumables employed in steel production are iron ore, coal, scrap metal and electrical energy. The importance of each of these consumables depends upon the technological processes adopted at each mill. In a classic integrated mill, coal and iron ore are the main consumables. In semi–integrated mills, scrap iron is the mainstay. An integrated mill comprises four basic operations – reduction, refining, solidification, and rolling – to convert iron ore into semi–finished or finished (rolled) steel products. Reduction The objective is to convert iron ore – naturally occurring in the form of ferrous oxide – into pig iron. In this operation, a coker converts coal into coke that is then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among these are refractories, electrodes, and alloying elements. Refractories are materials that work as thermal isolators and are used to coat critical steel mill equipment such as blast furnaces, ladles, and converters. Their main function is to protect the equipment from extreme temperatures and to minimize wear and tear. Electrodes constitute an important input in the operation of electric steel mills. Alloying elements Metals such as zinc, tin, chrome and aluminum are employed in steel alloy production. A steel mill uses industrial gases extensively. In addition to the jet of oxygen–fed converters in integrated mills, oxygen is frequently injected into blast furnaces and electric furnances to improve overall operating conditions. Given the volume of oxygen utilized, steel mills usually house one or more oxygen producing units. This used to be integrated vertically into the steelworks themselves. However, in recent years, initiatives have been widely employed to outsource this operation to specialized companies. There are also non–integrated manufacturers which operate via a single processing phase: reduction or rolling. In the first case are pig iron producers, the so–called ironers, that utilize coal in blast furnaces to make pig iron. In the second case are the re–rollers of plates and billets acquired from integrated or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Combustion In A Furnace Essay i) Combustion in the furnace (for heating): Most furnaces burn fuel oil or natural gas as fuel. During this combustion process, oxygen combines with fuel molecules to produce water, carbon dioxide and heat. The heat is what is passed through combustion chamber and provides heating. To maximize the efficiency of fuel burning furnaces, it is important that the right amount of products are used so there is no excess product remaining after the combustion reaction. In the combustion reaction, in furnaces, the air to fuel ratio is used. It is the ratio of the mass of air required to completely combust a given mass of fuel. The use of chemical calculations and quantities in this process allows maximum performance of furnace for heating, while saving money. ii) Anesthesia: The dosage of anesthetic necessary for a person to undergo a painful surgery, successfully, varies by person. Each patient needs a specific amount and type of anesthetic which depends on age, body type and the length of the surgery. An anesthesiologist has to work through percentages, ratios and metric conversions to figure out how much anesthesia a patient needs, while keeping the three factors in mind. Formulas are used to calculate the maximum allowable volume based on the weight/age of the patient and the type/concentration of the anesthesia. Precise calculations of anesthetic are required, as they can determine the outcome of a surgery. If too much anesthesia is given to a person, it can lead to serious ... • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Reciprocating Compressors For lower flow rates during holding mode, reciprocating compressors are usually a good fit because of their efficient turndown capabilities. They cater to a wider range of flow rates than any other compressor type. For large scale terminals, to cater higher BoG flow rate during unloading, centrifugal compressors are appropriate. Multiple (2 or 3) compressors are installed in parallel so that shutdown of any one of them does not hamper the operation. Depending on the tank type, reciprocating compressors can be used if the tank is concrete roof tank. Those tanks generally are operated at higher pressures and therefore, vapour generation is significantly low and hence reciprocating compressors can be used even for unloading mode. Composition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The simple and modular design of SCV's make capital cost of SCV's much lower than ORV's. But, operating cost of SCV's is much higher than ORV's because of use of natural gas as a fuel. Typically about 1.5% of the vaporized LNG is used up for running SCV's.  Shell and tube vaporizers Shell and tube vaporizers (STV) involve 2 levels of heat transfer, where, first level is heat exchange between LNG and intermediate fluid like propane and the second level is heat exchange between intermediate fluid and sea–water. The surface areas of the heat exchangers are optimized to have maximum heat exchange. The major advantage of STV's is, they prevent freezing (unlike ORV's) and reduce fouling risks. But of course, they are costly because of use of intermediate fluid like propane.  Ambient air vaporizers The emissions because of SCV's and unknowns associated with ORV's has made companies focus on something which is reliable and cheap and renewable and hence, companies are focussing on ambient air vaporizers which use ambient air as a source of heat transfer. The technology of using ambient air for LNG vaporization was there in the market before, but for smaller scales. The recent advancements has made it possible to use it at larger scales as well. The impact of temperature and climate is an important factor for designing ambient air vaporizers. The technology is considered 'green' because it has no emissions and makes use of solar heat stored in air as a heat transfer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay about Out of This Furnace Analysis Steel Mill Immigrants Of Industrial America For many Americans, the late nineteenth century was a time of big business, marked by economic and social evolution. In the period between the 1880 and 1920, the American economy was growing at a rapid pace. Many European immigrants without industrial skills flooded into American factories and steel mills. These new comer's came in search of better economic opportunity, which paved the way for Heavy, low paying labor that became the job description of the era for many immigrants. One such story of immigrants of the time is Thomas Bell's Out of this Furnace. So he sees opportunity, and becomes a butcher. Unfortunately he fails at his attempts to climb the ranks economically. Kracha, like most workers of the time, drowns him self in alcohol to hide from the problems of bills, finances and taxes. Kracha's wife, Elena, had to take in boarders to lighten the economic load. This is a typical practice of women in the mill towns. Not only did they take in boarders, but also they took care of the house and had to raise the children wile sometimes taking odd jobs to make ends meat. The second part of the novel is about Mike Dobrejcak who married, Kracha's eldest daughter, Mary. Mike is also a mill worker, migrated to America when he was still in his teens. This second generation of Slovaks is becoming more aware of politics, and how important their votes are in elections. With a greater understanding of the issues around them the second generation of immigrants started to vote. Still working in the mills they hold fast to the American dream. Faced with the same problems that the first generation had, now he was faced with wage cuts along with the never–ending struggles with the union. The next part of the book is about Mary. • 9. The Components Of The Gas Suspension Preheater The key component of the gas–suspension preheater is the cyclone. A cyclone is a conical vessel into which a dust–bearing gas–stream is passed tangentially. This produces a vortex within the vessel. The gas leaves the vessel through a co–axial "vortex–finder". The solids are thrown to the outside edge of the vessel by centrifugal action, and leave through a valve in the vertex of the cone. Cyclones were originally used to clean up the dust–laden gases leaving simple dry process kilns. If, instead, the entire feed of rawmix is encouraged to pass through the cyclone, it is found that a very efficient heat exchange takes place: the gas is efficiently cooled, hence producing less waste of heat to the atmosphere, and the rawmix is efficiently heated. This efficiency is further increased if a number of cyclones are connected in series The number of cyclones stages used in practice varies from 1 to 6. Energy, in the form of fan– power, is required to draw the gases through the string of cyclones, and at a string of 6 cyclones, the cost of the added fan–power needed for an extra cyclone exceeds the efficiency advantage gained. ROTARY KILN :THE HEART OF CEMENT MANUFACTURING The kiln is a cylindrical vessel, inclined slightly to the horizontal, which is rotated slowly about its axis. The material to be processed is fed into the upper end of the cylinder. As the kiln rotates, material gradually moves down towards the lower end, and may undergo a certain amount of stirring ... • 12. Out Of This Furnace Analysis The book "Out of This Furnace" by Thomas Bell tells stories of three generations of an immigrant family in the 19th century. The first part of the book is about the story of Kracha, our first protagonist. Kracha left Slovakia to come to America for more opportunities. As Kracha settled in America, he married Elena. Life in the United States was rough for the Kracha's family, and it turned out just as difficult as in his homeland. Kracha worked different jobs and realized that they were all low wage. He ended up working at the Mills. The next story is about Kracha's son in law, Mike Dobrejcak who married to Mary. When Mike was killed in a terrible accident at the Mills, Mary had to do her best to raise their children. The next story is about Dobie, one of Mary's sons. As the story progresses the next generation has an easier life than the previous one. However, they struggled to make a living. For example, Dobie did illegal work for a living. The experiences of George Kracha were very similar to those experiences of many immigrants to the United States in the late 19th century. So we prepared a memo for Mr. Kovacs as a result of our visit to make him be aware of these potential problems. Accounting issues: The owners of the company believe that WHCL will be poised to be a major player in the Canadian and the US heating and cooling markets in three years. However, after collecting information and auditing all the financial statement, we found that there is numerous issues need to be concerned for WHCL in recent years. 1. Covenants: We can notice that in the early fiscal 2000, WHCL increased its debt significantly, and the company had attached several covenants specifying that debt–to–equity ratio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But this would certainly increase the audit risk. If the company has violated the covenants, the auditor should disclose that in the financial statement. Warranty (Estimated Expense): In 1994, WHCL introduced a new model of gas furnace and these products are sold with ten–year warranties on parts and labor. Although this marketing strategy can attract more customers to buy their product, the increased long–term warranty claims will increase company's warranty expense, and lower their future profit. The most serious accounting problem for WHCL is the warranty potential liability. The increasing liability concern is because WHCL sold a new model of gas furnace with 10–year warranties in 1994. So we need to consider how much repair costs should be reported in the 2000 financial statements. As we know, cost of repairing each furnace was $150, and there are 30 claims were made. So we need to record 30 x $150=$4500 in warranty expenses in 2000 financial statement. Another problem for us is the information we currently collect cannot let us make an accurate

Steel Mill Immigrants of Industrial America Essay Steel Mill Immigrants of Industrial America For many Americans, the late nineteenth century was a time of big business, marked by economic and social evolution. In the period between the 1880 and 1920, the American economy was growing at a rapid pace. Many European immigrants without industrial skills flooded into American factories and steel mills. These "new comer's" came in search of better economic opportunity, which paved the way for Heavy, low paying labor that became the job description of the era for many immigrants. • 17. Analysis Of Out Of This Furnace Immigrants coming to America in the late 1800's had an idea of what it might be like in the land of opportunity, but the harsh reality of the living conditions during this time only became apparent when they reached the shore. In Thomas Bell's novel, Out of This Furnace, he describes the hardships Slovak immigrants faced throughout generations living in the industrial towns. Through Bell's novel he clearly depicts the mindsets of each generation and how they changed their attitudes and thinking to better succeed and escape poverty. Bell's story begins with an immigrant named George Kracha, who left behind everything to work in Pennsylvania alongside his brother–in–law in an industrial town. "He left behind him in a Hungarian village a young wife, a sister and a widowed mother; it may be that he hoped he was likewise leaving behind the endless poverty and oppression which were the birthrights of a Slovak peasant in Franz Josef's empire" (3). Kracha had enough money to get him to White Haven, but his poor judgement and false expectations got the best of him and it was quickly burned through; "unfortunately no one had thought to warn him against his own taste for whisky and against dark women who became 19 years of age in the middle of the ocean" (4). By writing about how much immigrants were willing to sacrifice to come to America and what expectations they had, as well as the harsh realities they faced, Bell is effective and correctly portrays what life was like for a new ... Best Heating Solutions for Your Home Levine Heating– Best Heating Solutions for Your Home If you are looking for solutions for heating inside your home, you need to first understand the basic differences between a boiler and a furnace. If you have no idea about what we are talking about, do not worry at all. It is completely normal to not have proper understanding of such technical terminology. It is why Levine Heating is there to take care of all your worries. The basic concept of Boiler A boiler is the heating system that requires water or steam to function properly. The boiler uses heat to bring water to boil to 180 degrees. Then the water is carried towards the radiator through the pipes with the help of a circulator. If the boiler is based on steam system, the water is transformed into steam which is transferred to the radiators with help of the pipes. The boiler system is also compatible with floor heating system. Some boilers heat up a coil to increase the temperature of the air. To run a boiler you can choose from one of these energy options including gas, electricity, boiler oil and wood pellets. Levine Heating has been dealing in boiler heating since a while now. Boilers continue to be many homeowners first choice when it comes to heating up the inside. Although installing a boiler could cost you much higher than getting a furnace installed. • 27. Heating For Heating Building Or House Many technologies are available for heating building or house. Boilers are pressure vessels intended to heat water or deliver steam which can then be used to give space heating and additionally benefit water heating to a building. In most business building heating applications, the heating source in the boiler is a natural gas fired burner. Oil fired burners and electric resistance radiators can be used too. Steam is favored over heated water in a few applications, counting absorption cooling, kitchens, laundries, sterilizers, and steam driven hardware. Boilers have a few qualities that have made them a typical component of buildings. They have a long life, can accomplish efficiencies up to 95% or more, give a powerful strategy for heating a building and on account of steam systems, require little or no pumping energy. Otherwise, fuel costs can be significant, regular maintenance is required, and if support is deferred, repair can be exorbitant. Boilers are regularly one of the biggest energy users in a building. For consistently a boiler system goes unattended, boiler expenses can increase around 10%. This can then be used to solve for the value of Pu and the ultimate moment Mu. It is therefore obvious that the solution to the above set of equations can be found as a closed form solution. This is because the location of the neutral axis is required for the calculation of the normal force Pu, while the value of Pu is itself required for the location of the neural axis. For the purpose of developing the interaction curves the location the neutral axis is assumed and the values of the normal force and the moment are calculated. The neutral axis is then changed to calculate a new set of Pu and Mu. This is repeated to get the interaction curves of PuVs Mu. In your home energy can come in many forms such as heat, light, and even electricity. The problem is some of us, meaning people, in general, know little to anything about the word energy itself. When we think about energy, we think about the energy it takes to get up in the morning. Sometimes as students we do not notice how much, and when we use energy. We use energy in everyday life, and it is very important to understand that. In my household, our energy sources consist of natural gas and electricity. The Hot Water Heater that we use to heat our water, is generated by natural gas. Natural gas is a type of energy that comes from deep beneath the earth's surface. Along with heating our water, it helps with washing clothes in our washing machine and even helps dry those clothes. We also have a dishwasher that makes use of both hot water and electricity. For good quality cement, this temperature has to be brought down to around 200oC in a limited period of time. Thus it is brought in contact with a cross circulation heat exchanging cooler. The heat of the incoming clinker is recuperated in the secondary air at an efficiency which usually lies within 65% to 70 The clinker cooler has the following main functions: 1. Recuperate the clinker heat by heating up the combustion air (secondary and tertiary air) 2. Maintain a minimum cooling velocity in order to avoid unfavorable mineralogical clinker phases and crystal size 3. Facilitate clinker handling and storage. Three groups of coolers can be defined according to their working principle: A. On a grate cooler the clinker forms a bed which is transported along the grate by different mechanisms. The cooling air is blown from below the grate by fans and passes through the clinker bed in cross current. Only a Dart of this air can be used as combustion air, the rest of it has to be dedusted and wasted, unless it can be used for another purpose (e.g. raw material or coal drying, fuel oil preheating, heating of buildings, warm water preparation, etc.). B. The operating principle of a tube cooler is quite similar to the one of a rotary kiln: the material and the cooling air are led in counter current through one or more slightly inclined rotating tubes. • 39. The Sermon Of The Fiery Furnace One of the most central ideas found in the Bible is the concept of faith. However, faith used in Biblical terms is much broader than that. Faith is a commitment built on belief and trust. Stories of faith can be found throughout the Old Testament. Faith is not only our commitment and trust in God, and also God's commitment to us. Youngblood defines faith as "the complete dependence on a dependable, and trustworthy God." This paper will view the story of the fiery furnace, my step of faith in coming to Crown College, and God's faithfulness to His people. The story of the fiery furnace begins in the land of Judah with the evil king Jehoiakim. Due to his evil ways, the land of Judah is conquered by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar took some of the men from Judah back to Babylon. He then had some of these Jewish captives taught and cultivated in Babylonian ways. Of these men were Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed–nego, who followed the Lord of Israel. These four men were favorable to the king, however, this story will focus on Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed– nego, and placed in positions of high power. They served the king well, until one fateful day when the king made them choose between him and their God. King Nebuchadnezzar was a man who did not know the Lord. He built an idol and ordered all of the noble people to gather and worship it. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed– nego were among these people and were gathered to the idol to worship it. ... • 40. Basics Of Steel Making : Oxygen Steelmaking And Electric... As mentioned in the introductory part, there are two basics of steel making: oxygen steelmaking and electric arc furnace. Steel manufacturing sites, sometimes–called integrated sites, use blast furnace to refine iron ore into steel. The most basic process applied by most steel manufacturing companies if the Basic Oxygen Furnace to change iron into steel. At the site of production, liquid iron flows into the BOF section where pure oxygen is blown into the iron at very high speed. The oxygen comes in through a lance put at the entrance of the BOF. This oxygen serves to eliminate carbon and other impurities. The next step involves the addition of lime and certain fluxes to transform it into a liquid slag that absorbs impurities. Addition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second basic in steel making is electric steelmaking. In this process, there is the employment of electric arc furnaces. The type of furnace takes steel scrap, DRI, HBI, or pig iron as mentioned in the introduction. These forms of iron are solid; therefore, an electric arc furnace melts them to produce steel. In the EAF, electricity is the main source of energy used to melt steel scrap (Engineer 's Handbook, 2004). Some furnaces may use oxygen, carbon and hydrocarbon fuels to speed up the process. In this process, there is no need to remove much carbon, as is the case in the BOF process. However, some impurities should be removed to increase the purity of the final steel produced. Regardless of the process used in steel making: integrated sites or EAF, the most important thing is the economics, location or history. Available literature shows that at the beginning of steelmaking, there was evidently little scrap traces. However, in today's production, it is hard to meet the demands for steel. The implication is that depletion is taking effect in steelmaking processes. Secondary Steelmaking Process Essentially, steel produced using the two processes discussed initially is the same except for minimal differences that are crucial only in special grades. These procedures of steelmaking are a bit different at the secondary stages of steelmaking. Secondary stages are called ladle metallurgy. The process happens after the tapping the crude steel from the BOF or EAF ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
