history in order to reduce its violence. Teens must kill each other to win a game, but the protagonist
will only seek to survive. This heroine, so strong that has supported her family after the death of her

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a novel about a teenage girl, Katniss, struggling to
survive in the life oppressed by the government. Living with the injustice of the Capitol, Katniss
soon develops her own hatred toward the Capitol; by using what she have and striving for the best
against it, Katniss is able to hold the odds in her favor. Katniss volunteering in Prim 's place in the
arena, where she could die at anytime, is an extraordinary sacrifice of a sixteen–year–old girl for her
sister. Staying alive in the deadly arena of The Hunger Games, where death is around every corner,
is close to impossible. Using relationships to her advantage, having the courage to stand up to
tyranny, and staying true to her values lead to Katniss ' survival in The Hunger Games and sparks a
rebellion against the injustice of the Capitol.
The author uses the alliance between Katniss and Rue, the connection with Haymitch, her hunting
partnership with Gale back home, and the star–crossed love with Peeta during the games to illustrate
how the dependence on those relationship lead to the survival of Katniss in the game. The alliance

The girl admires Katniss for her bravery. Katniss finds little Rue hard to resist, since she reminds
Katniss of Prim. Rue helps her ambush the other tributes by cutting a branch down with a nest of
mutated wasps. While doing this Katniss gets stung by a few of the wasps, making her delirious and
unconscious. Rue takes care of Katniss while she sleeps by taking the poison out of the stings. After
this, Katniss and Rue form an alliance and attempt to damage the other tributes supplies. The two
succeed, but in the process Rue is captured in another tribute's trap and ends up killed. Katniss kills
Rue's attacker, but it is still a very personal loss for her. She has lost a friend, and for her it is like
losing Prim.

I think the author did well in these areas because I can picture exactly what it would look like and it
is really descriptive. The main characters of this book are Katniss and Peeta. Katniss, who has dark
hair and grey eyes, is an amazing hunter with a bow, and a fiery personality. Peeta is a really kind
and compassionate character, who is unbelievably strong. The characters are pretty realistic, simple,
well developed, and pretty likable. My personal favorite character is Peeta. I liked him a lot because

our modern society. Staged in Panem, the post–apocalyptic world created by Collins, each year,
every one of the twelve districts are obligated to randomly draw the names of one boy and one girl
to compete in an annual, broadcasted event wherein the twenty–four adolescents participate in a
fight to the death. In the end, a victor will emerge, earning instantaneous fame and fortune. While
the Hunger Games is simply an extravagant form of entertainment for the citizens of the Capitol, the
participants will pay the ultimate price –– with their lives. Whilst it is uncommon to encounter any
form of entertainment that is as brutal as the Hunger Games

In the first book of "The Hunger Games" trilogy, there are many main and important themes such as
government control, media propaganda, reality shows or the effect of war. Nevertheless, in my
opinion, the idea that I can easily feel and see in the whole novel is sacrifice. At the first moment, I
thought the control of President Snow was the essential part to make the book became fascinating
and achieved a complete success, but sacrifice is the most meaningful message that Suzanne

Gale assumed she was trying to steal it and ever since then they became friends, Katniss taught Gale
how to shoot a bow and arrow and he taught her how to make snares. They have a close bond and
partnership as well as putting up strong foundations for their families who rely on them. "They're
not our kids, of course. But they might as well be. Gale's two little brothers and a sister. Prim. And
you may as well throw in our mothers too, because how would they live without us?" (Collins 9).
Both Katniss and Gale are young adults but they both bear a weight of their respective family, they
have to provide and become the head of the household at such a young age. Gale gives Katniss a
sense of security and because of this she knows she can trust and depend on him for anything
especially providing for her family. At first it was hard for Katniss to trust Peeta but this is
understandable. Imagine being forced to like and love someone you barely even know, how would
you know to trust them? Katniss and Peeta first encountered when she was younger and looking for
food, Peeta was told by his mother to throw away a piece of burnt bread but instead he gave the
burnt bread to Katniss. That was the last interaction Katniss had with him before the Games and
ever since then she has felt like she owes him something for helping her while she was struggling.

bright flower buttercup was the ugly cat. I think he still remembers how I tried to drown him in a
bucket when Prim brought him home.And sometimes when I clean a kill, I feed buttercup the

I take it in my hands, pull out the arrow, and hold the puncture in the crust to my nose, inhaling the
fragrance that makes my mouth flood with saliva. Fine bread like this is for special occasions."Mm,

cons aside and ends up having many similarities to helping out Katniss to survive in the game. In
addition, Gale and Peeta did have a signify for Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire. Gale is
tall, good looking, and has grey eyes whose name was in the glass ball for the reaping forty two
times to get the food source his family needs. Even though it's not enough to feed the five members,
he's eighteen which is the last year he has to "participate" to get a job and earn money. Gale and
Katniss wasn't the best of buddies till they were 12 years old and 14 years old (that means they were

them lead and provide food for their love ones. For Gale who secretly hunts and snares in the
