2. An Interface
This is an
interaction
between the user
and the software
running on a web
server. This is the
web browser and
the web page.

3. Homepage
Homepage- the starting place on all websites that allows you to
choose where you would like to go.

4. Header
The top bar on a website that is the same on every page
The header allows you to
easily navigate your way
around the website.

5. Footer
The footer stays the same on every page of the website. It is
generally very structured and has last bits of information. The
terms are conditions are normally here along with various other
things. Some websites also put any of the social media sites on
the footer.

6. Navigation bar
Primary navigation: A list of links located at the top of the page, these
links are all labelled clearly so you know where you want to go
Secondary navigation: Found in the website header, has more specific
links to where to go on the website.

7. Scrolling
• Normal scrolling means you can move up and down and left and
right.
• Parrallax scrolling is the same however the background images move
slowwer than the foreground images, creating depth.

9. Hero image
A hero image is a large image on a website located on the home
page. The Hero image is the first photo you would see and this is
because it is an introduction to the website and gives you and
overview of what that company/ brand is about.

10. Call to action ( CTA )
Call to action is a visual element such as a button or icon that
encourages the user to perform a specific action.

11. Skeuomorphism
This is where an object on a piece of software mimics the real life
object. This includes objects such as the bin on a computer or a
microphone on a mobile app.

12. Flat Design
This a minimalist style of design which is currently used for apps
and websites. The aim of this style is to create a flat 2D design
without using any shading or tone. This is done so it seen as
efficient and not complicated.

13. Other feature categories:
• Multimedia features: use of images, text, video and audio on a
website to present information differently to make it more
interesting.
• Web links: When websites provide links that will take the user to
a different site, this is external. And there are also links that will
take the user to a different page on the same site, these are
internal.
• Interactive elements: This allows the user to participate in
surveys, quizzes and feedback for the website. This
encourages interactivity with users on the site.

14. Convergence
Media convergence encourages a wider range of engagement from
the audience, as it makes more content available online.
A example is that killing eve,
the TV Drama has a podcast
available online.
