Sport and the Media
The growth of television as a significant cultural form during the 1960s put the relationship between
sport and the media on the public agenda. In late 1969, the US magazine Sports Illustrated drew
attention to the ways in which television was transforming sport. In effect, sport in the television age
was a 'whole new game'. The growing economic and cultural significance of television for sport
gradually became a pertinent issue in countries around the world.Clearly sport and television had
developed a degree of interdependence. They belonged together 'like ham and eggs'. In the view of

Media organizations exist within legal frameworks that determine their scope. In the United
Kingdom, the BBC is a public corporation, and the ITV system is overseen by a public body, the
Independent Television Commission. Both are charged with a statutory responsibility to provide a
broad range of material, which includes sport coverage. The introduction of Channel 4 in 1982, with
its statutory obligation to be alternative and innovative, had an impact on the range of sports covered
In the USA free market forces are not subject to as much restriction, but there are still laws, rules and
regulations that impact upon sport coverage
The press in both countries are subject to less restriction from government. Sport coverage in the
British tabloid press is dominated by a very small range of sports, with football typically providing
more than half of the content. While some sport events, such as the Olympic games and the soccer
World Cup, win huge audiences, the audience for much television sport is not, by television's
standards, large. Part of the appeal of sport for television producers is its cheapness. It can fill hours
of the schedule at relatively low cost. A substantial amount of television sport, lacking major

Man of the Year was issued to recognize a person(s) who made the most influence in that year. The
magazine included a 7 page feature of all Martin Luther King's memorable moments during the civil
rights movement. Their recognition on King bringing a huge positive impact in changing history
brings out how outlooked he was. At the time, Time Magazine was very popular, it was one of the
first magazine company's made, and was where people got their news. People who weren't interested
in how powerful the movement was, got a strong everlasting idea on how much influence he brought
to America. He continued to gain awareness. Towards the end of the year he...show more content...
Even though African Americans were allowed to vote, southern states interfered their attempt in
registering. As the march began on march 7 they were trapped by troopers who had gas masks on
and were armed with sticks. They attacked the marchers with their weapons and tear gassed them
too. The footage was shown on television all over the country and the only defense given back
from the protesters was the force of nonviolence carried on by Martin Luther King. The march had
to stop because of violence, then began once again with the help of King. The marchers were
certified protection from National Guard Troops so no harm can come to them. By the time the
capital of Alabama was reached, 30,000 people had joined the march including priest, reverends,
nuns, and whites. All marched together side by side. By this time Martin Luther king was well too
known for being one of the greatest leaders in History. With Kings past achievements and his
appearance in the march, gave people hope that the movement will go through. Being part of the

5. Comparing Two Magazines Essay
Comparing Two Magazines
For my compare and contrast essay, I have decided to compare two magazines in the financial and
business world of entrepreneurs. The name of the first magazine is " Small business opportunities"
and the second magazine is "Entrepreneurs – Be your own boss"
The theme of the first magazine is to highlight, how and what type of businesses to start and make
money without putting in much of the hard work. The very first page of the magazine shows an
absolute image of the man and women dressed up with lots of money and a road of success. The
magazine rapidity claims" Sure ways to make money". It seems like editor is personally involved in
guaranteeing the success of the business with highlighting text displaying...show more content...
The cover page is much simpler yet attractive without any graphics simply saying "Low cost
businesses you can start today".
The very first page is well displayed; it contains popular franchise information. The magazine takes
a step by step approach to guide an individual with general topics like "How to start up and build a
business". It seems like editor has no bias towards the information presented. The emphasis of this
magazine is on the presenting more information about a product rather then just giving the monitory
figures.
The color and layout of the magazine is very simple and professional. Editor shows concern of
misleading ads and puts emphasis on starting small. Towards the middle of the magazine in which
he presents a simple but very well laid out table of the popular franchises, with topics like
demographics, startup cost and brief introduction of the provider. In the last part of the magazine
editor has put together a list of other sources and publication to inform and pursue readers to research
more rather have them jump to conclusion by just looking at inflated figures.
In conclusion, I have found that both of these magazines are very different and appeals to different
class of people. The first magazine is not for the startup businessman but for somebody who can
sense a foe or real business offer. The second magazine is a starting point for new entrepreneurs who
want to start small but need a peek into

What we don't see in ads
For over half a century rolling stones magazine has entertain their public by making it broad for
what they stand for; for popular culture. As we seen their biweekly issue coming out we notice a
style of writing of repetition. By sensing a style of repeating the author is throwing at you all type
of adverting, having to struggle to define the difference between an ad and an article. The rolling
stones does a good job in their ads by picking what type ad will be submitted depending on popular
culture. Rolling stones will not be in favor for any political party, or any other decision, their main
goal is to report on what brad in other to stay selling. As a result, Rolling Stones magazine will not

Stones magazine makes it clear that their ads are just propagandas; nor good or bad. Advertising is a
method used to attract people's attention. Advertisement is really important in order for a
company survive or succeed. When looking for an advertisement you can find them in
newspapers, magazines, billboard, buses, internet, and on the radio, flyers, newsletters or posters.
The two most lucrative form of advertisement are television and magazines. The explanation to
this is simply. Most of the population prefers to use these types technology communication. What
makes a magazine advertising so lucrative is made by the successful color, size and wording.
They are made appealing also by photography. In the ad of "blue smokes" the author doesn't care if
the audience pays attention to their ads or not. The reason towards is because the author of Rolling
stones knows how to get your attention. Rolling stones make it clear from the beginning, by the
style writing that the author focuses on popular culture content. The repletion of writing that we see
is word choice and sentence fluency. To boot, good writers use a variety of sentences with different
lengths and rhythms to achieve different effects. Therefore, when publishing ads like "blue smoke"
the author knows that their audience is going to stop, and see their ad on blue smoke electric
cigarettes; by seeing how "blue smokes" are trending in pop culture. Rolling Stones technique when
writing about a topic is to stay trending. You can say Rolling stones magazine uses the same ideas of

Magazine Analysis of Elle
The title Elle hold suggestions of femininity, the word is flowing and rolls of the tongue. It is also
aesthetically pleasing to the eye as an anomaly. The strap line 'The worlds biggest selling fashion
magazine' appeals to the ideals of the magazine audience as fashion victims are likely to seek things
that are popular. The price is quite expensive and shows a reader that has enough money to have
all the things she wants. The price is small but in bold whereas the price on 'Red' magazine is small
and thin. This may be to distinguish themselves from the other magazines. It will also appeal to an
