Question 2
1. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
By Emma Waite
Class
Gender
I wanted to represent women differently to the
media stereotype by having a woman as the
main character of an action film and as the hero.
Proops theory says that there are certain
character involved such as a villain and hero. A
stayed with conventions when choosing a man
as the villain because in most action film men
are the villain and they are stereotypically more
violent then women. I wanted a woman as the
hero because I wanted to show that women can
be the hero and can have the same
characteristics as men.

The main character in my
opening is represented to be
middle class because she is
meant to be an undercover
spy and this is a well-paid job
and in films is shown to be
very rich. The clothing and
the environment doesn’t look
to be of middle class
because she is hiding out in
a forest and in camouflaged
clothing, however because
she is shown to be the “hero”
I think it links to middle class.
The villain in my opening is
represented to be of a
criminal class because he
(The villain is played by a girl
but id meant to be a man) is
a “hitman” who is paid to girl
people. The clothing that he
is wearing is meant to show
that he is a criminal by the
hoody and the dark clothing.
Looking at different films, the
villains are usually wearing
dark clothing and wearing
hoody’s can be associated
with criminals.

Age
The characters in my opening are young because action
films mainly show young people because of the physical
challenges that are presented in an action film. Link to

Looking at this website the age group that will watch my
opening would be in the age range of 18-44. The age
that I wanted the main character to be about 20 because
they’re the most active according to

ds/attachment_data/file/137986/tp-adult-participation-
sport-analysis.pdf .The villain was meant to look older
but still younger than 30 to stay with the idea that he
was a hitman.
This represented the adults as being the villain and there
fighting against teenagers. This is usually in the reverse
or shown as the teenagers being the “villain”. Also my
final product represents teenagers as being the “hero”.
