2. The song
• We have chose the song ‘Anything’ by Catfish and the
Bottlemen, the song being off their new 2016 album, titled
‘The Ride’.
• We knew that we wanted to use an indie band, with a song
that isn’t ‘mainstream’ which is one of the reasons we chose
this.
• A common convention for indie bands music videos are
narratives, so by choosing this band, it has enabled us to
create a narrative.
• We also chose a song that didn’t have a music video. This
way, we aren’t breaching any copyright laws and we don’t
have to compete with professional industry standard
videos.
3. About the artist
• Catfish and the Bottleman are a relatively small British indie rock
band from Wales and formed in 2007. Their debut album, The
Balcony, reached number 10 in the UK Albums Chart.
• The band have completed tours in the UK, Europe, North America
and Australia. They have also featured in a number of festivals
including Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading and Leeds. They also
won their first Brit Award for British Breakthrough act in 2016.
• In May 2016, they released their second album, The Ride.
4. The Lyrics
• From what we have interpreted, we think that the general
basis of the song is about a boy who loves a girl and is trying
to make their relationship work in many ways, whether that
be a friendship or a romantic relationship.
• By establishing the basic storyline from the lyrics, we were
then able to formulate an idea to match the lyrics to some
extent.
5. Our idea
• We decided on a basic story-line for now, which we will build on in the
next few weeks.
• We plan to have a male and female character, who have a strong
friendship/relationship. We plan to film them doing general fun
activities, such as baking together and going on days out, walks,
reading together and just enjoying a young teenage relationship,
desperately trying to make the relationship work.
• Towards the end or at the end (possibly in the bridge of the song, when
the song slows/changes pace) something will happen which separates
them, maybe one leaving on a train.
6. Themes
We have come up with some themes that we would like to include
within our narrative. These are the themes that we feel will be most
relevant to the song.
• Love
• Enjoyment
• Adventure
• Indie
• A fun filled friendship
• ‘Tumblr’ inspired
7. Activities
Within the narrative, we want our characters to participate in some
activities. Here are some that we have thought of so far:
• Listening to music/going to record shops
• Taking photos of each other
• Water fights
• Wandering around town
• Cooking together/baking-flour fight?
• Photo booths
• Reading together
• Going on walks
• Sat with legs over each other in jumpers drinking coffee
8. Costume
We plan to have both a boy and a girl as the main characters in our
narrative in order to portray that strong relationship. We want them
to be dressed in ‘indie’ clothes to fit the theme. Here are a few
examples:
• Fishnet tights
• Over-sized clothing
• Crop top
• Smart shirt/top
• Ripped jeans
9. Location
We decided on some locations we wish to film in. All these locations
will be cut into the main narrative and are all part of the
‘adventure/love’ theme we are attempting to go for.
• Rough Trade Record Store
• A gig
• Hockly, Nottingham
• A Library/Waterstones (somewhere trendy)
• Wollaton hall
• Arcade
• Attenborough nature reserve
10. Props
For some aspects of the narrative in the music video, we think
that we would really be bale to take advantage of lighting by
using candles, fairy lights and powdered paint
• Water guns
• Powdered Paint
• Fairy lights
• Candles
11. Editing
• Obviously this is a long way off yet, but we plan to edit using a
vintage/sepia toned effect, enhancing the lighting.
• As well as this, we would like to use slow motion and also
speed up some footage.
12. Your feedback
Please feel free to give us feedback, we need constructive
criticism to make this idea the best it can be!
