HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND
EVALUATION STAGES?

• Media technologies were extremely helpful in assisting me
to develop a range of my own skill which ultimately played
a role in the outcome of my final 3 products.
• This broad range of different medias allowed my work to
become more diverse enabled me to clearly envisage my
final products.
• It was evident that there was were successes and
limitations in all media technologies
• It was evident in my research, production, editing and
planning process how media convergence is an example
of how technology has developed immensly over he last
20 years
RESEARCH
When construction my research I looked a range of different
media technologies including, prints, the internet and real
products that I’d bought.
In terms of my music video research I used the internet,
specifically ‘Youtube’ and ‘Vevo’ because this allowed me to
freely search an unlimited amount of videos from different
genres and artist which was extremely useful in my
development of other artist’s media products.
Watching existing media products was vital because I was
able to view conventions and understand ways of breaking
them. It also enabled me to take notes on the videos I
analysed and develop ideas for my own product.
In terms of my ancillary products I used ‘Google’ to search
for existing Digipacks, I also used ones I had a home. Having
a tangible product is helpful in seeing the detail and viewing
accurate colouring and text.
However the internet offered me a wider range of products
which allowed me to consider a lot more options I had when
creating my own digipack.
RESEARCH - DIGIPACK
RESEARCH - POSTER
For the research of my poster I looked at prints such as
‘NME’ Q’ and ‘KERRANG!’
I chose these because they are all magazines that feature the
same genre as my artist, therefore I will get the most
accurate results of conventional indie posters.
This gave me a clear indication of the way the layout, house
style, images and mastheads appear conventionally. This
allowed me to consider ways I could break them to make my
poster unique or whether I wanted it to me recognisable as
an indie poster.
MARKET RESEARCH
I created a simple questionnaire using the free website,
‘Survey Monkey’ I sent this via email to 10 participants.
This enabled me to ask questions based on elements of
music videos that my participants would preferred to see,
this meant that I could base my own video around these
answer and create a video that would meet my consumer’s
needs.
The website was extremely helpful in the process of making
my music video because it collects the results for me and
presents those in a graph automatically which helped me
easily analyse the data.
PRODUCTION
My music video, digipack and poster images were all created
by using a Nikon DSLR, this camera produced high quality
images that enabled my final products to look as
professional as possible.
I had used this camera in the past and was able to navigate
around it quickly however I learnt many additional skills
when experimenting with the camera. Some of these included
the F.stop button which I altered depending on the light
exposure in my location, I hadn’t used this previously
however I learnt to adjust this setting often as it produced a
higher quality image.
EDITING
I then uploaded the footage onto my computer and edited it
used ‘Adobe Premiere’ which I found surprisingly easy to
use, especially because I had never used it before. The
software allowed me to effectively cut my footage to a
selected amount and drag it into the song, I could then
easily manipulate these clips and rearrange them in an
order that I though was most fitting.
I enjoyed editing the songs so that they perfectly matched
the rhythm in the music, I think doing this made the footage
look more effective and helped to create a professional
video.
However I thought it had limitations as there wasn’t a wide
range of special effects. Also he folders on the left that
store all the footage were also difficult to control and I think
it would be more helpful if there was a search option in the
bar at the top, to help me locate my named folder.
DISTRIBUTION
I then distributed my work using the website ‘Blogger’ I found
that the website was easily accessible and presented my work
effectively.
I uploaded my work from documents to videos to the blog using
a free website ‘Slide share’ which allowed me to use an
embedded code so that they could be viewed. My blog acted as
a timeline and I shared my work to it every time I finished a
piece, it was also easy to refer back to whenever I need to view
my work http://www.slideshare.net/
The only limitations the website gave me were that it was
temperamental as it would crash however it was an extremely
simple and effective way off presenting my project. The blog
also looked professional and is easy to navigate around
because my work was split into sections and made my process
more understandable.
Overall media technologies were crucial in the creation of my
ancillary productions and my main final product.
It allowed me to create products that I knew would meet the
needs of my consumers and allowed me to make products
that could be as successful as possible and to a high quality.
Technological convergence was demonstrated by the fact
that I was able to create my product, research, plan, edit and
distribute them using my computer.

Having a tangible product is helpful in seeing the detail and viewing accurate colouring and text. However the internet offered me a wider range of products which allowed me to consider a lot more options I had when creating my own digipack. RESEARCH - DIGIPACK
  • 5. RESEARCH - POSTER For the research of my poster I looked at prints such as ‘NME’ Q’ and ‘KERRANG!’ I chose these because they are all magazines that feature the same genre as my artist, therefore I will get the most accurate results of conventional indie posters. This gave me a clear indication of the way the layout, house style, images and mastheads appear conventionally. This allowed me to consider ways I could break them to make my poster unique or whether I wanted it to me recognisable as an indie poster.
  • 6. MARKET RESEARCH I created a simple questionnaire using the free website, ‘Survey Monkey’ I sent this via email to 10 participants. This enabled me to ask questions based on elements of music videos that my participants would preferred to see, this meant that I could base my own video around these answer and create a video that would meet my consumer’s needs. The website was extremely helpful in the process of making my music video because it collects the results for me and presents those in a graph automatically which helped me easily analyse the data.
  • 7. PRODUCTION My music video, digipack and poster images were all created by using a Nikon DSLR, this camera produced high quality images that enabled my final products to look as professional as possible. I had used this camera in the past and was able to navigate around it quickly however I learnt many additional skills when experimenting with the camera. Some of these included the F.stop button which I altered depending on the light exposure in my location, I hadn’t used this previously however I learnt to adjust this setting often as it produced a higher quality image.
  • 8. EDITING I then uploaded the footage onto my computer and edited it used ‘Adobe Premiere’ which I found surprisingly easy to use, especially because I had never used it before. The software allowed me to effectively cut my footage to a selected amount and drag it into the song, I could then easily manipulate these clips and rearrange them in an order that I though was most fitting. I enjoyed editing the songs so that they perfectly matched the rhythm in the music, I think doing this made the footage look more effective and helped to create a professional video. However I thought it had limitations as there wasn’t a wide range of special effects. Also he folders on the left that store all the footage were also difficult to control and I think it would be more helpful if there was a search option in the bar at the top, to help me locate my named folder.
  • 9. DISTRIBUTION I then distributed my work using the website ‘Blogger’ I found that the website was easily accessible and presented my work effectively. I uploaded my work from documents to videos to the blog using a free website ‘Slide share’ which allowed me to use an embedded code so that they could be viewed. My blog acted as a timeline and I shared my work to it every time I finished a piece, it was also easy to refer back to whenever I need to view my work http://www.slideshare.net/ The only limitations the website gave me were that it was temperamental as it would crash however it was an extremely simple and effective way off presenting my project. The blog also looked professional and is easy to navigate around because my work was split into sections and made my process more understandable.
  • 10. Overall media technologies were crucial in the creation of my ancillary productions and my main final product. It allowed me to create products that I knew would meet the needs of my consumers and allowed me to make products that could be as successful as possible and to a high quality. Technological convergence was demonstrated by the fact that I was able to create my product, research, plan, edit and distribute them using my computer.
