Conversation With Homelessness
On the blog call Ignite living a man called Charlie talks about three conversation he had with the homelessness. The first one is called "the unicycle
guy" a guy who was tired of being homeless because he said that asking for money does not help you, it makes you worse. One day this guy got tired of
begging for money and he started to perform on the sidewalks. Charlie said "by performing I mean he'd ride his unicycle back and forth. He'd end
off each performance by doing his trademark back flips off a wall (Charlie, 2011)." This made the children happy and of course their parents. The
second conversation was with "the joke guy", a man who loved to tell jokes. At the beginning this man looked depressed, but he called the attention of

Homelessness : The Social Impact
"Oh you live in Longview, Washington?" A term that is stated way to often when someone claims they live there. Disproportionate assumptions of the
town are often made by those who usually have never even stepped foot in Longview. Before Washington passed a law forbidding panhandling, it
wasn 't an unusual sight to see a homeless person on the side of the road holding a sign begging for change. What Longview, Washington needs is a
strong structured program, that helps transition homeless not only gets homeless off the streets but also keeps them off.
It's important, especially to give help to the young, encouraging and directing them into the right path. The youth who are out of home, dealing with

Currently Vancouver Washington offers a program designed to assist the youth who struggle with homeless and mental health called Options Youth
house. As stated on the our services website, "the youth house is available to youth under the age of 24, who are homeless, living in unstable
environments or struggling with mental health" (Our Services). They provide a social worker who works one on one with individuals designing a
plan that best fits each individual's needs. For the youth who are struggling with mental illness they provide support not only from a counselor, but
also from a licensed psychologist who can assist with any medications that may be needed. As mentioned in our services, youth who struggle with
mental illnesses that go untreated are at higher risk for becoming homeless or struggle with drug addiction (Our Services). Having the opportunity to
work on one with a counselor and social worker exposes the youth how to learn new coping skills in a healthy manor. They also provide support from
an employment specialist, who is able to help with schooling, resume, work resources and more. A program like this would be very beneficial to
Longview's youth.
A program that offers services like the youth house shouldn't just end at the age of 24. There should be a program that goes a step even further and
offers help to the adults who are struggling with homelessness, unstable living situations, and mental illnesses! As explained

Homelessness Discursive
Homelessness is seen as a controversial subject that statistics show is on the increase. This makes homelessness a problem in society that cannot be
ignored. Firstly, let us examine some of the causes of homelessness and views about the homeless and from the homeless. Also, let us examine some
initiatives that may help or solve the problem of homelessness.
After extensive research, it can be seen that there are many reasons for becoming homeless such as: family problems, debt, drink and drug abuse and
arguments in a family. Some people who become homeless are homeless because of debt. This happens when people do not have enough money and
have to borrow loans which they cannot pay back. This can lead to homelessness.

The next two people have posted on this site how they feel. Here, Vicky explains how she feels when people pass her:
"The worst thing for me was people looking at me in disgust. I had no control over my appearance... When I begged for spare change I could see the
disgust in peoples' eyes."
Vicky must feel horrible when people look at her in disgust and she might be worried that if she asks for help they might just turn her away. Her
personal problem which has arisen from being homeless is one of low self esteem.
Darren comments:
"I have been back home now for almost a year. My parents and me, we patched things up. It got so bad on the streets that I phoned home one night...
It was that best decision I made... It is all horrible, especially in winter, but the worst thing is forgetting who you are and losing your identity. We go
by street names and you start to think of yourself as a bit of the street rather than an individual person."
Darren is lucky that he reconciled with his parents but others are not so lucky. This story shows that low self esteem can also lead to a lack of identity
and eventually many homeless people feel that they are so unimportant that they disappear altogether. Vicky and Darren demonstrate that the homeless
are individuals with individual worries and concerns.
Studies have shown that homelessness is very

Benefits Of Keeping The Homeless
It's hard to take away what already isn't there. So why should we remove the camp the homeless have established? I myself speak for the people
that want this camp to remain; we do not want to tear down that camp! Why you may ask? Because that puts the homeless even more homeless,
they are already going through so much so let us at least leave them this. I do not come with just a "Do not tear it down!", I come with facts. I
come with reasons on why that camp should stay! We should keep the camp for several reasons. It would have a heavy cost to clean and pay the
workers to clean the camp up. On top of needing the money for the workers and the workers pay there is also the risk of dangers in the enviorment,
due to the camp not being built as a normal home would be I imagine that it can be quite unstable so volunteer work is very limited. Another reason
we should keep the camp is so we don't put the "Homeless" back into being "homeless". This would put a good chunk of people back wandering on
the streets for their next scrap of food, so why get rid of the camp? This would only force them all to relocate.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Stereotypes Of Homeless People Essay
Have you ever walked down the streets of Montreal and seen a homeless person? Perhaps you may have given this person some loose change
hidden deep down in your pockets, or maybe you merely continued walking. As I looked at this man who was sitting against the wall, his hair was
dirty, his body was smelly, and his appearance was gloomy. Next to him was a brown paper bag with a beer bottle hidden inside. At this point, your
thoughts may go into two opposite directions, you might feel pity for this man, or you might feel disgrace. Before formulating an assumption towards
this man, I've decided that I needed to investigate further the relationship between this man's current situation and the broader social context in which
he lives. From a sociological perspective, I ask myself "How did this person come to become... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact is, many people walk by many homeless citizens, we sometimes see them asking for change, sleeping on the sidewalk, or outside in the
frigid temperature with little to no clothes. Some people in society will feel sorry, possibly give them some money or others contribute donations;
meanwhile, others may be ashamed and feel disgraceful. Society has created stereotypes of homeless people. Negative stereotypes have built
preconceived ideas in society1 prejudice about homeless people being lazy, violent, drug abusers, criminals, been neglected, or have low values.
However, the failure of individuals to overcome poverty personally cannot account for all homeless people. Social institutions such as the public of
welfare delivery system appear to be a contributing factor to this stigmatization. Social institutions have created arguments amongst members of society
that such systems are responsible for encouraging and supporting applicants into welfare dependency. Such stigmatization has imposed a shameful
identity on impoverished individuals in the

The Value Of A Homeless Person
When I encounter a homeless person, I feel that I am inclined to help them. Typically, I will offer any homeless being I see a few coins hoping it
will suffice for them to endure another day. The homeless population is extremely dense in Southern California; therefore, I often see them in the
area where I reside. Once, I was outside Little Caesars waiting in my car for my pizza, and there was a homeless person sitting outside. Another
person about to go inside takes the homeless person inside him them and buys them a pizza, I was sentimentally touched by this moment. I promise
myself every instance I see a homeless person that I will definitely assist them if I become successful. I feel sympathetic when I see a homeless being.

Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find
O'Conner's short story 'A Good Man is Hard to Find' challenges the themes of life for many individuals, and begs the question that leaves the reader
wondering: 'What would I do and how would I act if I were to be held at gunpoint?' The story leaves the individual to psychoanalyze themselves and
their actions in their everyday life, leaving them with a feeling of unease. This story exemplifies that death is always there, looming over everyone, and
life is very short, begging the reader to question if they are living the life they would want to have been living if they were to die. The themes of the
story; right verses wrong, and moral standings; are all brought up in an unconventional way, with the Misfit having no sense of neither moral standings,
nor right or wrong. This story brings up hard questions many readers scarcely think about, and it does it in the most chilling way possible.
There is an underlying message in most stories that are written, however, this story can be interpreted in many ways, making the meanings endless.
Manipulation stuck out almost immediately, which is introduced with the grandmother in talking to the Misfit: "Yes, it's a beautiful day," said the
grandmother. "Listen," she said, "you shouldn't call yourself The Misfit because I know you're a good man at heart. I can just look at you and tell"
(Meyer, 433). You cannot manipulate death, which is what the grandmother tried to do with the Misfit. Her air of superiority lead her to believe she was

Homelessness: The Ongoing Problem Of Being Homeless
Being homeless has been an ongoing problem that hasn't been solved yet. There are still many homeless people out on the streets in the large cities
and in the immense nation we call America. It's bizarre to think about when unemployment still hasn't gotten near zero and new jobs are being created
every day. People go homeless because of the situations they never thought would happen. For example, an ongoing illness or sickness that lead to
major medical bills, or just got fired from a huge corporation, or drugs.
As you begin strolling down the streets of your hometown and different parts of the world all you mostly see are filthy, malodorous homeless people
begging for money. They take up all the space on the sidewalks with their cardboard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Building homeless shelters that don't fit all homeless people isn't cutting it anymore because they have this thing called "max capacity" which
isn't benefiting all homeless people, but the government still insist to have these buildings because it make some homeless people feel
appreciated while others are adding cluster and litter to the streets either by living there or the amount of junk they carry with them. Imagine
walking down the streets and seeing clear side sidewalks, park benches, and clear homeless shelters. This proposal will help this imagination come
true. The plan is to have no more people struggling to get money or essentials to survive. Any homeless person who is eighteen through the age of
sixty is eligible to apply and earn a job. In general, the requirements that are set for a person to apply and keep a job are simple. For example, looking
presentable is the key to success. You want to show up like you just got out of bed, hair all messed up, and dirty clothes. One way to achieve this
goal includes saving enough money that they get from begging to go to a local cleaning service to finally get rid of those year–old stains and horrid
smell that lingers everywhere and makes the streets smell worse than they already do. If you don't have enough money to go to the cleaners you can
always use natural resources like a close puddle or lake to wash clothes and air dry them. If you don't have natural resources there's always a nearby
shelter that possibility will have decent looking clothes that people

What Is The Problem Of Beggary
One of the major social problems in the world and especially in India is beggary. It is a state or condition of complete poverty. Beggary which is
today affecting a high number of beggars in India who are forced to do begging because their societies fails in providing any good Flipside to them.

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Beggars In Pakistan
Beggars are everywhere in Pakistan. They are found in nearly every village, town and city. The main hubs of their action are places of worship and
bazaars. They can be seen on the sides of the roads in front of the mosques and other places of hectic activity. They move from street to street, from
one area to another and beg for alms, food and money. They take whatsoever is given to them. Sometime, individual comes across a deaf or dumb
beggar lifting a sightless or lame beggar on his back and begging for charities.
The number of beggars in Pakistan is growing rapidly. These beggars live on the incomes of others. It is indeed a curse that even able–bodied peoples
of Pakistan resort to begging. They indulge in numerous evils like drinking and gambling. There are diseased. They bring with them infection and
roam from place to place and thus are responsible to an immense amount for spreading epidemics. Begging must be banned in Pakistan by law.
However, deserving should be facilitated and others should be given productive opportunities. Street begging is certainly a great irritation. ... Show

I was quite concerned as to why countless beggars are there, in a city which is the second largest city and cultural center of Pakistan. Huge
movement from the rural areas to find work could be one cause, but then why they beg? Thoughts pass through my mind on general trend of
begging as to what forces a person to stretch out his hand to others and beg. Why would somebody need to begin this day? Is it an action of
desperation, as that person has no other ways of making a living, or is it just a absence of self–morale, Can we apportion the presence of begging on
our social attitudes, whereby beggars have become complacent and rely on hand–outs. Does begging exist because people are treating this as a
profession, or does it exist because a particular State government has ignored the poors. (Imran,

Henry V, By William Shakespeare
The Real Henry V Through the play Henry V, by William Shakespeare, Henry is portrayed as a King who is well organized, and in complete control
of his command. In the end of the play a different personality of King Henry is exposed. Catherine's King Henry is vulnerable, and almost begging
Catherine to be his wife. This Henry that is trying to woo Catherine doesn't seem like the real Henry, he seems vulnerable, and self–conscious. When
examining Henry throughout the play he is in control, his moves are strategically planned. The Henry that comes to life at the end of the play is not
the Henry the audience has come to know, he is disheveled and at Catherine's mercy. The real Henry the play describes is not the Henry from the end
of the play. The Henry that begs Catherine for her hand in marriage seems like a different person than the Henry V that is a pillar of strength and in
control for the rest of the play. The real Henry is in complete control, his every move is strategic, and planned. In the end his begging Catherine might
be part of his elaborate plan to gain control of France which was his ultimate goal. King Henry V declares rights to the throne of France. He
declares war and a right to the throne of France. When dealing with the face of war, and Talking to his men he is in control and expects them to live
up to the legacy their fathers left to them. "Whose blood is fet from fathers of war proof/ Fathers that like so many Alexanders?" (Shakespeare,

Cause Of Homelessness In England
Walking down the streets of any city here in England, a person is often faced with an issue that is usually overlooked, homelessness. Homelessness
in England could be a major issue considering that over 185,000 people are homeless at any time (The Guardian, 2016). Homelessness is something
that a lot of people are accustomed to witnessing on a daily basis; homeless people can be seen wandering the streets and digging through trash in
order to survive another day. Usually when people see homeless people they immediately avoid eye contact, their first instinct is to ignore them. They
are automatically labeled as people who are too lazy to get jobs or addicts who have spent all their money on drugs or alcohol and they would much

Vagabondage imposes colossal effects that range from health issues to de–skilling which usually lead to self–loathing. There are many effects of
homelessness on human beings the most important being health. Houseless people are often prone to numerous diseases due to their unhealthy
lifestyles, their health gets worse over time as they are usually untreated and therefore live without vaccines or medicines to cure them. They may
suffer from skin diseases, nutritional deficiencies, sleep deprivation, and drug addiction; there are only a handful of the multiple diseases that could
be caught. Apart from physical illnesses homeless people often suffer from personal health issues usually when reality kicks in and they realize that
they do not have a roof to live under. They suffer psychologically due to loss of self–esteem, institutionalization, substance abuse, increased danger of
abuse and violence and the development of behavioral problems (Centre point, no date). To add onto the psychological issues, homelessness also
damages people's resilience and self–confidence (Crisis, 2016). These problems make it harder for homeless people to appropriate their way of life
not only during their houseless period but also when they are no longer homeless; people skills are usually needed to build self confidence so that
they can feel in control of their lives and move on from the past (Crisis, 2016). As for their

Homelessness in America Essay
Homelessness is not something that was created over night; it has existed for a long time; often we choose not to see the homeless, or bother with
them, so we look the other way. Homelessness is not prejudice toward race, creed, or religion––it has no boundaries; all homeless people should not be
stereotyped as being drug abusers or the mentally ill that have been released from mental hospitals. Homelessness is not a disease that a person can
catch from bodily contact, but it certainly has afflicted many Americans. We need to find the cause of homelessness before we can find a solution.

Adrienne was not mentally ill or a substance abuser; she was like you and me. Weltner says, "the money spent on threemonths' emergency housing for
Adrienne could have provided a $500 monthly housing voucher to a family for a year" (671). The fundamental cause of homelessness is the inability
to pay for housing due to inadequate income to meet basic needs. The emergency housing program needs to be reevaluated; the money is not being
used wisely.
We cannot ignore the problem of homelessness; we have to find programs that work. In many homeless cases, a cycle does exist–that cycle must be
broken. On an individual basis, we can get involved with some the homeless programs through local organizations at church, homeowners associations,
schools, sororities, and fraternities–we must combat homelessness. If combating homelessness means higher taxes to prevent families living under
bridges, living in cardboard make shift homes, eating discarded scrapes, then let's pay higher taxes. We need to provide more family shelters, so the
children get an education and the parents regain some of their dignity and find employment. Employment of the homeless would not only take them off
the streets, but also would strengthen the economy.
Society can no longer look the other way; as we drive the freeways of our great country, homelessness is everywhere. In a 1992 survey, conducted by

Giving Clothes To The Homeless
Imagine someone shivering on the street, depressed and cold, because they have nothing to protect him or her. Quote "Is there any other way to be? I
mean, this is my body, my soul; I gotta live with it. I plan on taking it for a long ride" – Cecil Castellucci. Giving clothes to the homeless takes little
effort but has a big payoff. So if we all gave clothes it would make the world a better place. Giving clothes to the homeless is a great way of recycling,
followed up by a quote "a society is defined not only by what it creates, but what it refuses to destroy" – John Sawhill. Our actions and what we choose
to give is something that sets the tone for our generation. Giving clothes to the homeless is also a good way to higher self–esteem.

a person could be involved in this situation. Begging is often a problem and is also disturbing the peace. While walking or driving through a city there
is a 325 chance that you can be begged for money or food. Research found that while in the city there is a 32% that you will be begged by a
homeless individual. Last but surely not least is prostitution. Prostitution is a major problem in the homeless community. It is a "job" that does not
require a physical, drug test, or any prior experience and could still possibly pay. A woman that has an issue with chronichomelessness has a 10%
chance of becoming involved with prostitution. All these problems take a toll on the community around them, including the residents and the homeless
people. There are many solutions being proposed to solve homelessness, it starts with getting the entire community together to provide the help,
housing, and programs

I Remembered It Like It Was Yesterday
I remembered it like it was yesterday. I felt like a thousand bricks in my stomach ,while standing up and hearing everybody laughing. I didn't know
it was coming, I couldn't help it , but I guess he didn't really like it. I never sat with him again. Now was the time of year when everybody was having
parties, getting car, jobs, etc. I didn't do any of those. Mom said it 's good for my safety. I just wanted to be like all of the other kids in my school. All I
heared in school was how cool the party's were and how much money they were making. I tried to ignore it. "Let 's go soph," my mom yelled.
"Where are we going?" I asked. "Your favorite place," my mom said . "Coming," I said with excitement while bolting down the stairs. We

Justin, Katie, and Sam were my favorite cousins, they would always make me laugh when I am down and they always know how to have a good
time. Most of the time when they come over we usually go in the yard and play soccer or tag.
It was almost time for them to come over. I started to get butterflies in my stomach, I was so excited. The smell of homemade sauce filled my lungs.
Walking up to the sauce pot to dip peice of bread, the bread falls into the sauce while I have fall to the ground
Another tic, I thought to myself
I picked myself up and saw the bread sinking into the sauce. I went to go get a spoon but it was already gone. As I am put the spoon away the doorbell
rang.. I sprinted to the door and opened it as fast as I could, I saw everybody. I rushed in to give a big hug. I didn't know what to do first. I saw many
things that I could do, such as playing hide and seek.
My tic will give my hiding spot away, I thought to myself. We could play soccer but my tic will make me trip on the ball, I thought to myself.
Those were just some times that my tics would get in my way.
But it wasn't until five years later when I humiliated myself. I Actually got my first job. It was the best feeling in the world. I could actually make my

It was my first day working. It was a little hard, I had to get used to the feeling of having a job. I could not get fired.

The Homeless Population : Veterans Essay
In the US homeless population, veterans are slightly overrepresented (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). To be exact, veterans constitute 12.3% of all homeless
adults (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). A study by Harpaz–Rotem, Rosenheck, & Desai (2011) also affirms that roughly 30% are homeless men and 4% are
homeless women. By definition, homelessness is not having "a regular or fixed night–time residence," and homeless people tend to move frequently,
stay in homeless shelters, and sleep in places such as vehicles and abandoned buildings (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015, p. 1). With this in mind, it is
important to note that homeless veterans are mostly older males who some form of health insurance coverage than other homeless adults, better
educated, and have been married or married (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). One would think that these advantages should put veterans at lower risk for
homelessness, but this was not the case (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). Additionally, a study done by van den Berk
–Clark & McGuire (2013) portrays that
elderly civilians were less likely to become homeless in comparison to elderly veterans (aged from 51 to 61 years (39%) and 62 years or older (9%))
who were twice as likely to become homeless. Risk factors that can potentially explain homelessness among elderly veterans include life events (e.g.,
death of spouse or marital breakdown, exiting employment, and evictions), mental illness or medical conditions, minority status, and higher levels of
disruptive events during childhood

Homeless People Are Dependent On Their Resident City 's...
Most homeless people are dependent on their resident city's shelter system to protect themselves from severe weather conditions. If city officials don't
formulate concise response plans, homeless shelters won 't be able to accommodate the influx of people without access to another shelter. Some of
these people are forced to stay in the cold or other harsh weather conditions. As a result, numerous homeless people suffer from conditions like frostbite
and hypothermia during the winter due to the lack of precautions and treatment in addition to the lack of shelter. Solutions for reducing homeless
deaths caused by hypothermia range from moving the homeless out of the streets to different vicinities like semi–trailers and storage units.

It would be impractical to build more buildings in areas that are continuously increasing heights of modern skyscrapers due to lack of space at the
ground level. However, one problem that may be faced would be that all units might be unavailable. This seems more likely to occur within more
densely populated areas like Chicago and New YorkCity than small cities like Toledo and Ann Arbor. Also, there may not be enough units within an
area to withstand the homeless populations in larger cities. Storage unit businesses cannot be forced to use their units to house others, especially since
the unit owners are looking to profit off the unit.
From an economic standpoint, costs for utilities like electricity and heating services need to be taken into consideration. Volunteers and philanthropists
cannot be forced to finance this nonprofit project. However, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers grants for
the "renovations, rehabilitations, or conversions of buildings to be used as emergency shelter" (Hombs 72). This statute can be applied towards the
conversion of storage facilities to emergency shelter services.
Another solution is using semi–truck trailers to house homeless people during harsh weather conditions and wind chills. Semi trucks are driven all
year long and unlike other vehicles like convertibles and coupes, trailers and trucks are well

Stereotypes Impact On Society
The Impact of Stereotypes on Stereotypes "A stereotype may be negative or positive, but even positive stereotypes present two problems: They are
cliches, and they present a human being as far more simple and uniform than any human being actually is" (Kress). Stereotypes impact everyone,
everyday, of every minute. It doesn't matter if they are good or bad, stereotypes are almost never right. They cause false expectations and often lead
to debates, fights, and someone is always offended by them. Stereotypes can be defined as an image that a large group of people believes about a
certain person or thing and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotypes). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila
Lyiscott says that "I think that there's tension. I think there's a tension with fighting to not internalize some of what has been placed on you, especially
during very important formative years" (Raz, Jamila). This shows that stereotypes can cause people to develop some internal conflict, such as debating
on whether or not the stereotypes that are placed on people are true. In another interview with Guy Raz, Maz Jobrani says, "Look, stereotypes exist
because there's always some truth to stereotypes. Not always, but often..." (Raz, Maz). This means that there is a little truth in stereotypes, and this is
most often what makes people believe them. If they didn't have any truth in them, they wouldn't exist. Clearly stereotypes have a negative effect on
society, but

Homeless People Could Be a Great Resource
Have you ever felt so angry when you gave someone the money that you worked very hard to earn, and then he or she wasted it on some
unacceptable purposes? Yes, it has been one of my first lessons since I immigrated to the United States. During January of 2012, most of the
weekdays, my brother gave a homeless man some quarters or one dollar when we were going to work. This homeless man stood in an intersection and
begged for charity from the public. However, my brother met him at a convenient store, and witnessed him buying some lotteries. Should this homeless
man spend his begging money on gambling or on daily necessities such as foods and a place to sleep? Another example is a homeless man who
bought three houses and had four wives with some children from public charity has been charged for tax problems. These men are a part of the large
population of homeless citizens in the United States. According to the National Alliance to EndHomelessness, the amount of homeless is roughly
estimated to be between 2.3 million and 3.5 million people. That is approximately 1 in 100 people living without a home or living on the streets
every night with no job, no car, and no responsibilities. Obviously, we need to figure out a way to fix these homeless problems. Many experts have
discussed and suggested uncounted solutions. However, we could easily fix the homeless problem by gathering them and using them as a resource. As
I mentioned, homeless people could be a great resource. Just

Homelessness In The Workplace: A Case Study
Downtown Grand Rapids, flourishes with successful businesses. Both large companies and mom and pop shops compete in the city streets. One
business in particular; however, was facing challenges. These banished are causing the challenges. Tattered and ghostly, these people hobbled around
defacing the once glorified bakery. Causing the environment surrounding the delicious bakery to become an eyesore. It seems as though, as the
years go on there is more homeless people being accounted for in the area. Jim Harger of mLive writes, "In the Grand Rapids area in 2015, there
were 912 people counted without a home as to only 793 people in 2014." Each year the number of homeless continues to rise, in turn, directly caused
by the increasing rate of poverty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a post written by Wood TV 8 News Staff, they stated what the business owner proposed, "We tried various solutions including closing in the
afternoons and evenings when the homeless and transient population move from the east side of division to the west side to stay out of the sun."
This solution simply did not work. Other businesses on Division Street noticed the same issue as well. In the article written by Matt Vande Bunte,
he stated, "Dykstra and some other South Division business owners are urging the city to revoke a permit for Heartside Ministry to move into a
former Goodwill store. They worry that an expanded ministry may lead to more harassment, drugs, alcohol intoxication, and panhandling." The
owners explain that moving the businesses could just bring more homeless to another area and promote additional issues. Many solutions were
contemplated but every prospective turned to a dead end. There are many strengths and weaknesses to moving the shop; for example, moving the
business could help relocate customers into a cleaner, more uplifting environment. Originally, Propaganda Doughnuts was placed in a lower class
area of the city. Two doors down to Propaganda Doughnuts resided a vacant building. As we know, when vacancy engulfs an area, so does the
homeless. As a result, to this growing problem, it is hard not to notice all the homeless wandering downtown. My roommate Bronte Rivera has been
harassed by homeless before and said, "I was walking downtown minding my own business and out of nowhere one of the homeless men called me a
slut." She stated that she felt "mentally harassed." Homeless people live in every city but there is an ever growing issue in the Detroit and Grand
Rapids areas especially. A website exclusively pertaining to homeless information in Michigan stated, "It's found that "Michigan is ranked 5th in the
United States and 1st in the Midwest for number of homeless residents" (MCTEH). As a

Homeless College Students
Do you know the reason why so many college students in the United States are currently homeless? As of the moment there are thousands of college
students roaming around the streets, due to not having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left
homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn't suitable as a living environment. These students
don't have the available funds to be able to pay for somewhere to live in or know when their next meal will be. Every college student in order to be
successful needs a safe environment that they can call home and get there regular nutrients.
It is often said, that for a student to actually be able to excel in their studies. They must have a proper nutritional diet, a place to rest and work on their
studies. Yet, there is currently 14% of all college students living among the United States without a home. It is most commonly due to rent being so
expensive that students cannot simply afford. Which later leads to some of these students who are facing financial trouble to become homeless. Which
not only leaves the student without a home, but vulnerable to many other factors. For example, infection diseases, unsafe conditions, to even bad
weather which can all affect the health of a student. In today's society when people think about a homeless person they think they ask for money for the
most common saying " homeless being drug invested

The autobiography Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt tells the life of the McCourt family while living in poverty in Limmerick, Ireland during the
30's and 40's. Frank McCourt relates his difficult childhood to the reader up to the time he leaves for America at age nineteen. The book has many
prevailing themes, but one of the most notable is the settings relationship to the family. The setting of the book ultimately influences the choices and
lifestyle of the McCourt family in many ways.
Living in poverty and not being able to meet basic needs leads the characters to result to desperate measures such as stopping Frank McCourt's

Frank steals bananas from a store for his hungry baby brothers and describes the situation by saying " I make sure no one is looking, grab a

them for lemonade after a miscarriage. Frank is motivated by his mother's desperation for the lemonade, " I try to find the music in my own
head but all I hear is my mother moaning for lemonade."(236) Stealing for Frank and his brothers was not their first choice of providing
necessities but a last resort.
Living in poor housing also influences the thoughts and actions of the McCourt family in various ways. Most of the houses the family lives in
throughout the book are shabby and unsanitary and promote the family's unhealthiness. One of the houses the McCourt family lives in is
characterized by the comment " dad tells them the lavatory could kill us with every class of disease, that the kitchen floods in the winter and
we have to stay upstairs to keep dry" (p.104) . Because the lavatory smells so bad and the first floor floods in the winter, the McCourt family
moves up to the second floor which they refer to as Italy because it is warm and clean. The charity societies visit the Mc.Courts and realize how
desperate the situation is for the family. One charity

What Is The Problem Of Beggary
One of the major social problems in the world and especially in India is beggary. It is a state or condition of complete poverty. Beggary which is
today affecting a high number of beggars in India who are forced to do begging because their societies fails in providing any good Flipside to them.
Beggars are seen in town, village, and city. They sit in the busy places like, banks, rivers, and temples. They ask people to give them money, food, and
anything they need. Beggary is connected to the poverty. There are various causes, effects, solution of beggary problem. There are several serious
cases of beggary: social, economics, biological causes. The first cause is economic causes like: poverty, essential needs are not achieved,
non–availability of employment and no means to support themselves. Present economy has not been able to provide enough employment. Beggary has

Odysseus Character Analysis
Throughout literature, Odysseus has always been praised as a brilliant hero. While that may be true, he is an atrocious leader. While he always shows
bravery and passion, it is always towards his goals, not his shipmates goals. Additionally, throughout the story he betrays his men, in multiple ways.
Odysseus is an egregious leader due to the fact that he manipulates his men, cares only about himself, and chooses women over his own men.
Throughout his remarkable journey, Odysseus constantly manipulates his men in order to get what he wants. A prime example of this is shown
when Odysseus says, "Friends have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome, is it now, than when the Cyclops penned us in his cave?
What power he had! Did I not keep my nerve, and use my wits to find a way out for us?"(12. 144–148). This clearly shows how manipulative
Odysseus is, as he changes the perception of his men by convincing them that they can fight Sylla off. But he knows that isn't true, but instead of
trying to find another way he manipulates his men so he doesn't have to deal with finding a different route. His manipulativeness is shown even more
during this conversation with his men, "My men came pressing around me, pleading: 'Why not take these cheeses, get them stowed, come back,
throw open all the pens, and make a run for it? We'll drive the kids and the lambs aboard. We say put out again on good salt water.' Ah, how sound
that was. Yet I refused. I wished to see the caveman"

Nyc : The Underground Heart Of The World
NYC has always been considered the "melting pot" of the world, citizens from all walks of life and different backgrounds have adopted the city as
either their home or a ground for tourism. While NYC is technically a melting pot, the real melting of cultures occurs in the underground heart of the
city: the subway system. NYC has 21 train lines and 3 shuttle trains that service over a billion commuters on a daily basis. The subway system makes
it possible for anyone – whether you live in the city or not – to hop on a train and go wherever they desire. The 5 train, which is routed from Brooklyn
to the Bronx (and visa versa) is common ground to hundreds (maybe even thousands) of people every day. Commuters of all ages, race, religion, etc.
can be found on the train at any point within the 24hours of train service, because after all, NYC is the city that never sleeps! Just like the communities
of NYC, the commuters on the 5 train can be broken down into many different subsets. From the morning to evening there is a wide spectrum of
commuters and the actions they partake in while on their daily commute. These commuters can be broken down into subsets based on the stops they
ride the train for and their actions on the train. There are about 8 major subsets in which commuters can be broken up into: the business workers,
average commuters, school children, music listeners, friends, phone users, beggars/pan handler, and sleepers. While each subset may be easy to

Argument Against Vegetarianism
Due to the rise in popularity of professional begging these days I've decided to examine the unfortunate social interaction of asking a stranger for
money, more specifically, asking for a small $2 parking fee. Asking a stranger for money, for most people, is not a social norm. It a demeaning
situation and I do not recommend it to anyone. Yet some people in our society have chosen to live a life entirely dependent on the charitable
offerings of others. Some even go as far as to explicitly write on their signs that they "Need a cold beer". I do not agree or support this lifestyle, I
prefer a more structured support system that holds those receiving the aid accountable. Nevertheless I've always wondered what makes people donate
to these people? What strategies are these people using to convince others to part with their hard earned cash?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I walked the parking lot and actively seek out any one arriving in the parking lot and asked if they could spare $2 for parking. To make the

wallet. Can you spare $2 for parking?" The only thing I changed was whether or not I looked the person in the eyes. I asked 25 people with eye
contact, and 25 without. For those who I asked without eye contact I looked down, at their feet. Of those who I asked with eye contact only 1
person said they could not help me. When asked without eye contact, 5 people refused to help me. Most where nice and courteous, even those who

Stereotypes In The Great Gatsby
While society tends to marginalize groups different from average and generalize about their beliefs and struggles (or lack thereof), The Glass Castle
gives an in–depth look into an impoverished family which makes it impossible to confidently stereotype poor or homeless people. In a similar
manner, The Great Gatsby illustrates the perhaps overlooked problems of the extremely wealthy and encourages the reader to acknowledge the shared
humanity of all people. As Jeannette ages in The Glass Castle, she becomes more and more concerned with others' perceptions of her. While as a child
she happily partook in her father's skedaddles and other mischief, the increasing presences and pressures of her peers emphasize her families

In one of Jeannette's college classes, her professor discusses the causes of homelessness. When Jeannette contributes her unorthodox opinion based on
her own parents, her professor demands "What do you know about the lives of the underprivileged?" (257). Ironically, Jeannette knows far more
about the underprivileged than her teacher, who earlier framed the discussion as a political one about conservatives and liberals rather than individual
homeless people as Jeannette tries to do. However, the professor's remark illustrates well many people's tendency to stereotype and generalize rather
than consider all scenarios and possibilities. Her professor does not know Jeannette's opinion is based on true events, but denies it anyway because it
does not fit with her current belief and stereotype. Together The Glass Castle and The Great Gatsby encourage the reader to look beyond
socioeconomic status and class, and instead to focus on the unique humanity of all people. Though every individual's particular struggles vary, every
individual has them and endures them in whatever way they are

Out Of All The Homeless Essay
"A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge." Proverbs 29:7. It was a regular Wednesday in

their bacon cheeseburgers called "Burger Priest". We decided to sit on the countertop beside the window for a nice view of the city while we eat.
While I was eating the burger I couldn't help but to notice down on the streets a figure of someone sitting down, in fact I could multiple figures sitting

Empathy For Homeless People
People do not show enough empathy towards people who unfortunately are homeless they show compassion but don't do anything to make a

Conversation With Homelessness

  • 1. Conversation With Homelessness On the blog call Ignite living a man called Charlie talks about three conversation he had with the homelessness. The first one is called "the unicycle guy" a guy who was tired of being homeless because he said that asking for money does not help you, it makes you worse. One day this guy got tired of begging for money and he started to perform on the sidewalks. Charlie said "by performing I mean he'd ride his unicycle back and forth. He'd end off each performance by doing his trademark back flips off a wall (Charlie, 2011)." This made the children happy and of course their parents. The second conversation was with "the joke guy", a man who loved to tell jokes. At the beginning this man looked depressed, but he called the attention of many people ... • 2. Homelessness : The Social Impact "Oh you live in Longview, Washington?" A term that is stated way to often when someone claims they live there. Disproportionate assumptions of the town are often made by those who usually have never even stepped foot in Longview. Before Washington passed a law forbidding panhandling, it wasn 't an unusual sight to see a homeless person on the side of the road holding a sign begging for change. What Longview, Washington needs is a strong structured program, that helps transition homeless not only gets homeless off the streets but also keeps them off. It's important, especially to give help to the young, encouraging and directing them into the right path. The youth who are out of home, dealing with mental illness, or struggling with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently Vancouver Washington offers a program designed to assist the youth who struggle with homeless and mental health called Options Youth house. As stated on the our services website, "the youth house is available to youth under the age of 24, who are homeless, living in unstable environments or struggling with mental health" (Our Services). They provide a social worker who works one on one with individuals designing a plan that best fits each individual's needs. For the youth who are struggling with mental illness they provide support not only from a counselor, but also from a licensed psychologist who can assist with any medications that may be needed. As mentioned in our services, youth who struggle with mental illnesses that go untreated are at higher risk for becoming homeless or struggle with drug addiction (Our Services). Having the opportunity to work on one with a counselor and social worker exposes the youth how to learn new coping skills in a healthy manor. They also provide support from an employment specialist, who is able to help with schooling, resume, work resources and more. A program like this would be very beneficial to Longview's youth. A program that offers services like the youth house shouldn't just end at the age of 24. There should be a program that goes a step even further and offers help to the adults who are struggling with homelessness, unstable living situations, and mental illnesses! As explained ... • 3. Homelessness Discursive Homelessness is seen as a controversial subject that statistics show is on the increase. This makes homelessness a problem in society that cannot be ignored. Firstly, let us examine some of the causes of homelessness and views about the homeless and from the homeless. Also, let us examine some initiatives that may help or solve the problem of homelessness. After extensive research, it can be seen that there are many reasons for becoming homeless such as: family problems, debt, drink and drug abuse and arguments in a family. Some people who become homeless are homeless because of debt. This happens when people do not have enough money and have to borrow loans which they cannot pay back. This can lead to homelessness. The following ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next two people have posted on this site how they feel. Here, Vicky explains how she feels when people pass her: "The worst thing for me was people looking at me in disgust. I had no control over my appearance... When I begged for spare change I could see the disgust in peoples' eyes." Vicky must feel horrible when people look at her in disgust and she might be worried that if she asks for help they might just turn her away. Her personal problem which has arisen from being homeless is one of low self esteem. Darren comments: "I have been back home now for almost a year. My parents and me, we patched things up. It got so bad on the streets that I phoned home one night... It was that best decision I made... It is all horrible, especially in winter, but the worst thing is forgetting who you are and losing your identity. We go by street names and you start to think of yourself as a bit of the street rather than an individual person." Darren is lucky that he reconciled with his parents but others are not so lucky. This story shows that low self esteem can also lead to a lack of identity and eventually many homeless people feel that they are so unimportant that they disappear altogether. Vicky and Darren demonstrate that the homeless are individuals with individual worries and concerns.

  • 5. Benefits Of Keeping The Homeless It's hard to take away what already isn't there. So why should we remove the camp the homeless have established? I myself speak for the people that want this camp to remain; we do not want to tear down that camp! Why you may ask? Because that puts the homeless even more homeless, they are already going through so much so let us at least leave them this. I do not come with just a "Do not tear it down!", I come with facts. I come with reasons on why that camp should stay! We should keep the camp for several reasons. It would have a heavy cost to clean and pay the workers to clean the camp up. On top of needing the money for the workers and the workers pay there is also the risk of dangers in the enviorment, due to the camp not being built as a normal home would be I imagine that it can be quite unstable so volunteer work is very limited. Another reason we should keep the camp is so we don't put the "Homeless" back into being "homeless". This would put a good chunk of people back wandering on the streets for their next scrap of food, so why get rid of the camp? This would only force them all to relocate.... • 6. Stereotypes Of Homeless People Essay Have you ever walked down the streets of Montreal and seen a homeless person? Perhaps you may have given this person some loose change hidden deep down in your pockets, or maybe you merely continued walking. As I looked at this man who was sitting against the wall, his hair was dirty, his body was smelly, and his appearance was gloomy. Next to him was a brown paper bag with a beer bottle hidden inside. At this point, your thoughts may go into two opposite directions, you might feel pity for this man, or you might feel disgrace. Before formulating an assumption towards this man, I've decided that I needed to investigate further the relationship between this man's current situation and the broader social context in which he lives. From a sociological perspective, I ask myself "How did this person come to become... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact is, many people walk by many homeless citizens, we sometimes see them asking for change, sleeping on the sidewalk, or outside in the frigid temperature with little to no clothes. Some people in society will feel sorry, possibly give them some money or others contribute donations; meanwhile, others may be ashamed and feel disgraceful. Society has created stereotypes of homeless people. Negative stereotypes have built preconceived ideas in society1 prejudice about homeless people being lazy, violent, drug abusers, criminals, been neglected, or have low values. However, the failure of individuals to overcome poverty personally cannot account for all homeless people. Social institutions such as the public of welfare delivery system appear to be a contributing factor to this stigmatization. Social institutions have created arguments amongst members of society that such systems are responsible for encouraging and supporting applicants into welfare dependency. Such stigmatization has imposed a shameful identity on impoverished individuals in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Value Of A Homeless Person When I encounter a homeless person, I feel that I am inclined to help them. Typically, I will offer any homeless being I see a few coins hoping it will suffice for them to endure another day. The homeless population is extremely dense in Southern California; therefore, I often see them in the area where I reside. Once, I was outside Little Caesars waiting in my car for my pizza, and there was a homeless person sitting outside. Another person about to go inside takes the homeless person inside him them and buys them a pizza, I was sentimentally touched by this moment. • 8. Analysis Of A Good Man Is Hard To Find O'Conner's short story 'A Good Man is Hard to Find' challenges the themes of life for many individuals, and begs the question that leaves the reader wondering: 'What would I do and how would I act if I were to be held at gunpoint?' The story leaves the individual to psychoanalyze themselves and their actions in their everyday life, leaving them with a feeling of unease. This story exemplifies that death is always there, looming over everyone, and life is very short, begging the reader to question if they are living the life they would want to have been living if they were to die. The themes of the story; right verses wrong, and moral standings; are all brought up in an unconventional way, with the Misfit having no sense of neither moral standings, nor right or wrong. This story brings up hard questions many readers scarcely think about, and it does it in the most chilling way possible. There is an underlying message in most stories that are written, however, this story can be interpreted in many ways, making the meanings endless. Manipulation stuck out almost immediately, which is introduced with the grandmother in talking to the Misfit: "Yes, it's a beautiful day," said the grandmother. "Listen," she said, "you shouldn't call yourself The Misfit because I know you're a good man at heart. I can just look at you and tell" (Meyer, 433). You cannot manipulate death, which is what the grandmother tried to do with the Misfit. Her air of superiority lead her to believe she was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Homelessness: The Ongoing Problem Of Being Homeless Being homeless has been an ongoing problem that hasn't been solved yet. There are still many homeless people out on the streets in the large cities and in the immense nation we call America. It's bizarre to think about when unemployment still hasn't gotten near zero and new jobs are being created every day. People go homeless because of the situations they never thought would happen. For example, an ongoing illness or sickness that lead to major medical bills, or just got fired from a huge corporation, or drugs. As you begin strolling down the streets of your hometown and different parts of the world all you mostly see are filthy, malodorous homeless people begging for money. Building homeless shelters that don't fit all homeless people isn't cutting it anymore because they have this thing called "max capacity" which isn't benefiting all homeless people, but the government still insist to have these buildings because it make some homeless people feel appreciated while others are adding cluster and litter to the streets either by living there or the amount of junk they carry with them. Imagine walking down the streets and seeing clear side sidewalks, park benches, and clear homeless shelters. This proposal will help this imagination come true. The plan is to have no more people struggling to get money or essentials to survive. Any homeless person who is eighteen through the age of sixty is eligible to apply and earn a job. In general, the requirements that are set for a person to apply and keep a job are simple. For example, looking presentable is the key to success. You want to show up like you just got out of bed, hair all messed up, and dirty clothes. One way to achieve this goal includes saving enough money that they get from begging to go to a local cleaning service to finally get rid of those year–old stains and horrid smell that lingers everywhere and makes the streets smell worse than they already do. If you don't have enough money to go to the cleaners you can always use natural resources like a close puddle or lake to wash clothes and air dry them. If you don't have natural resources there's always a nearby shelter that possibility will have decent looking clothes that people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main hubs of their action are places of worship and bazaars. They can be seen on the sides of the roads in front of the mosques and other places of hectic activity. Huge movement from the rural areas to find work could be one cause, but then why they beg? Is it an action of desperation, as that person has no other ways of making a living, or is it just a absence of self–morale, Can we apportion the presence of begging on our social attitudes, whereby beggars have become complacent and rely on hand–outs. • 12. Henry V, By William Shakespeare The Real Henry V Through the play Henry V, by William Shakespeare, Henry is portrayed as a King who is well organized, and in complete control of his command. In the end of the play a different personality of King Henry is exposed. Catherine's King Henry is vulnerable, and almost begging Catherine to be his wife. This Henry that is trying to woo Catherine doesn't seem like the real Henry, he seems vulnerable, and self–conscious. When examining Henry throughout the play he is in control, his moves are strategically planned. The Henry that comes to life at the end of the play is not the Henry the audience has come to know, he is disheveled and at Catherine's mercy. The real Henry the play describes is not the Henry from the end of the play. The Henry that begs Catherine for her hand in marriage seems like a different person than the Henry V that is a pillar of strength and in control for the rest of the play. The real Henry is in complete control, his every move is strategic, and planned. In the end his begging Catherine might be part of his elaborate plan to gain control of France which was his ultimate goal. King Henry V declares rights to the throne of France. He declares war and a right to the throne of France. When dealing with the face of war, and Talking to his men he is in control and expects them to live up to the legacy their fathers left to them. Homelessness in England could be a major issue considering that over 185,000 people are homeless at any time (The Guardian, 2016). Homelessness is something that a lot of people are accustomed to witnessing on a daily basis; homeless people can be seen wandering the streets and digging through trash in order to survive another day. Usually when people see homeless people they immediately avoid eye contact, their first instinct is to ignore them. They are automatically labeled as people who are too lazy to get jobs or addicts who have spent all their money on drugs or alcohol and they would much rather live on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vagabondage imposes colossal effects that range from health issues to de–skilling which usually lead to self–loathing. There are many effects of homelessness on human beings the most important being health. Houseless people are often prone to numerous diseases due to their unhealthy lifestyles, their health gets worse over time as they are usually untreated and therefore live without vaccines or medicines to cure them. They may suffer from skin diseases, nutritional deficiencies, sleep deprivation, and drug addiction; there are only a handful of the multiple diseases that could be caught. Apart from physical illnesses homeless people often suffer from personal health issues usually when reality kicks in and they realize that they do not have a roof to live under. They suffer psychologically due to loss of self–esteem, institutionalization, substance abuse, increased danger of abuse and violence and the development of behavioral problems (Centre point, no date). To add onto the psychological issues, homelessness also damages people's resilience and self–confidence (Crisis, 2016). These problems make it harder for homeless people to appropriate their way of life not only during their houseless period but also when they are no longer homeless; people skills are usually needed to build self confidence so that they can feel in control of their lives and move on from the past (Crisis, 2016). • 15. Homelessness in America Essay Homelessness is not something that was created over night; it has existed for a long time; often we choose not to see the homeless, or bother with them, so we look the other way. Homelessness is not prejudice toward race, creed, or religion––it has no boundaries; all homeless people should not be stereotyped as being drug abusers or the mentally ill that have been released from mental hospitals. Homelessness is not a disease that a person can catch from bodily contact, but it certainly has afflicted many Americans. We need to find the cause of homelessness before we can find a solution. More money for more programs is the typical response, but we should look at what has already been instituted and reevaluate them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fundamental cause of homelessness is the inability to pay for housing due to inadequate income to meet basic needs. The emergency housing program needs to be reevaluated; the money is not being used wisely. We cannot ignore the problem of homelessness; we have to find programs that work. In many homeless cases, a cycle does exist–that cycle must be broken. On an individual basis, we can get involved with some the homeless programs through local organizations at church, homeowners associations, schools, sororities, and fraternities–we must combat homelessness. If combating homelessness means higher taxes to prevent families living under bridges, living in cardboard make shift homes, eating discarded scrapes, then let's pay higher taxes. We need to provide more family shelters, so the children get an education and the parents regain some of their dignity and find employment. Employment of the homeless would not only take them off the streets, but also would strengthen the economy. Society can no longer look the other way; as we drive the freeways of our great country, homelessness is everywhere. In a 1992 survey, conducted by the U.S. Conference of ... So if we all gave clothes it would make the world a better place. Giving clothes to the homeless is a great way of recycling, followed up by a quote "a society is defined not only by what it creates, but what it refuses to destroy" – John Sawhill. Through the characters exemplified in The Man Who Had No Eyes, MacKinlay Kantor delivers the theme that one needs to move on from the past, as self–pity destroys all. 3&4. It doesn't take long in the story for us to realize who the homeric pattern will almost perfectly replicate. One of Markwardt's first actions as the beggar he is to display his arete. He displays his virtues as a beggar through asking Parsons if he "wouldn't mind helping a poor guy out" while at the same time offering him a cheap cigarette lighter which Markwardt claims is "the best cigarette lighter ever made.". Through the revelation of his arete, we find his hubris as well. He has been blinded by a chemical explosion, and claims with an "insane sort of pride" that "they've all forgotten about it." He has a depressing ego streak a mile long, and its abundantly obvious. After a long, drawn out, and utterly false explanation of his sorrows, it slowly but surely becomes clear that this monologue is his atД“. Markwardt has attempted to portray himself as the victim, but in fact he was the aggressor, and the worst part of it all is that he is explaining this to the victim himself. • 25. The Homeless Population : Veterans Essay In the US homeless population, veterans are slightly overrepresented (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). To be exact, veterans constitute 12.3% of all homeless adults (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). A study by Harpaz–Rotem, Rosenheck, & Desai (2011) also affirms that roughly 30% are homeless men and 4% are homeless women. By definition, homelessness is not having "a regular or fixed night–time residence," and homeless people tend to move frequently, stay in homeless shelters, and sleep in places such as vehicles and abandoned buildings (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015, p. 1). With this in mind, it is important to note that homeless veterans are mostly older males who some form of health insurance coverage than other homeless adults, better educated, and have been married or married (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). One would think that these advantages should put veterans at lower risk for homelessness, but this was not the case (Tsai & Rosenheck, 2015). Additionally, a study done by van den Berk –Clark & McGuire (2013) portrays that elderly civilians were less likely to become homeless in comparison to elderly veterans (aged from 51 to 61 years (39%) and 62 years or older (9%)) who were twice as likely to become homeless. It would be impractical to build more buildings in areas that are continuously increasing heights of modern skyscrapers due to lack of space at the ground level. This seems more likely to occur within more densely populated areas like Chicago and New YorkCity than small cities like Toledo and Ann Arbor. Also, there may not be enough units within an area to withstand the homeless populations in larger cities. Storage unit businesses cannot be forced to use their units to house others, especially since the unit owners are looking to profit off the unit. From an economic standpoint, costs for utilities like electricity and heating services need to be taken into consideration. Volunteers and philanthropists cannot be forced to finance this nonprofit project. However, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers grants for the "renovations, rehabilitations, or conversions of buildings to be used as emergency shelter" (Hombs 72). • 27. Stereotypes Impact On Society The Impact of Stereotypes on Stereotypes "A stereotype may be negative or positive, but even positive stereotypes present two problems: They are cliches, and they present a human being as far more simple and uniform than any human being actually is" (Kress). Stereotypes impact everyone, everyday, of every minute. It doesn't matter if they are good or bad, stereotypes are almost never right. They cause false expectations and often lead to debates, fights, and someone is always offended by them. Stereotypes can be defined as an image that a large group of people believes about a certain person or thing and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotypes). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says that "I think that there's tension. I think there's a tension with fighting to not internalize some of what has been placed on you, especially during very important formative years" (Raz, Jamila). This shows that stereotypes can cause people to develop some internal conflict, such as debating on whether or not the stereotypes that are placed on people are true. In another interview with Guy Raz, Maz Jobrani says, "Look, stereotypes exist because there's always some truth to stereotypes. Not always, but often..." (Raz, Maz). This means that there is a little truth in stereotypes, and this is most often what makes people believe them. If they didn't have any truth in them, they wouldn't exist. Homeless People Could Be a Great Resource Have you ever felt so angry when you gave someone the money that you worked very hard to earn, and then he or she wasted it on some unacceptable purposes? Yes, it has been one of my first lessons since I immigrated to the United States. During January of 2012, most of the weekdays, my brother gave a homeless man some quarters or one dollar when we were going to work. This homeless man stood in an intersection and begged for charity from the public. However, my brother met him at a convenient store, and witnessed him buying some lotteries. Should this homeless man spend his begging money on gambling or on daily necessities such as foods and a place to sleep? While he always shows bravery and passion, it is always towards his goals, not his shipmates goals. A prime example of this is shown when Odysseus says, "Friends have we never been in danger before this? More fearsome, is it now, than when the Cyclops penned us in his cave? What power he had! Did I not keep my nerve, and use my wits to find a way out for us?"(12. 144–148). This clearly shows how manipulative Odysseus is, as he changes the perception of his men by convincing them that they can fight Sylla off. But he knows that isn't true, but instead of trying to find another way he manipulates his men so he doesn't have to deal with finding a different route. His manipulativeness is shown even more during this conversation with his men, "My men came pressing around me, pleading: 'Why not take these cheeses, get them stowed, come back, throw open all the pens, and make a run for it? NYC has 21 train lines and 3 shuttle trains that service over a billion commuters on a daily basis. Asking a stranger for money, for most people, is not a social norm. It a demeaning situation and I do not recommend it to anyone. Yet some people in our society have chosen to live a life entirely dependent on the charitable offerings of others. Some even go as far as to explicitly write on their signs that they "Need a cold beer". The only thing I changed was whether or not I looked the person in the eyes. I asked 25 people with eye contact, and 25 without. For those who I asked without eye contact I looked down, at their feet. Of those who I asked with eye contact only 1 person said they could not help me. When asked without eye contact, 5 people refused to help me. Most where nice and courteous, even those who said no. I got a lot of comradery from most people I asked. Many said "I've been there before", and "I am really sorry to hear that, hopefully you can find it". A couple of subjects said "Not my problem" and waked away. I suppose they were having a bad ... • 36. Stereotypes In The Great Gatsby While society tends to marginalize groups different from average and generalize about their beliefs and struggles (or lack thereof), The Glass Castle gives an in–depth look into an impoverished family which makes it impossible to confidently stereotype poor or homeless people. In a similar manner, The Great Gatsby illustrates the perhaps overlooked problems of the extremely wealthy and encourages the reader to acknowledge the shared humanity of all people. As Jeannette ages in The Glass Castle, she becomes more and more concerned with others' perceptions of her. While as a child she happily partook in her father's skedaddles and other mischief, the increasing presences and pressures of her peers emphasize her families abnormalities and shortcomings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In one of Jeannette's college classes, her professor discusses the causes of homelessness. When Jeannette contributes her unorthodox opinion based on her own parents, her professor demands "What do you know about the lives of the underprivileged?" (257). Ironically, Jeannette knows far more about the underprivileged than her teacher, who earlier framed the discussion as a political one about conservatives and liberals rather than individual homeless people as Jeannette tries to do. However, the professor's remark illustrates well many people's tendency to stereotype and generalize rather than consider all scenarios and possibilities. Her professor does not know Jeannette's opinion is based on true events, but denies it anyway because it does not fit with her current belief and stereotype. Together The Glass Castle and The Great Gatsby encourage the reader to look beyond socioeconomic status and class, and instead to focus on the unique humanity of all people. Though every individual's particular struggles vary, every individual has them and endures them in whatever way they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Out Of All The Homeless Essay "A righteous man knows the rights of the poor; a wicked man does not understand such knowledge." Proverbs 29:7. It was a regular Wednesday in the summer, I was down in Toronto for the day to celebrate my birthday. My friends and I decided to go to a local burger shop that was known for their bacon cheeseburgers called "Burger Priest". We decided to sit on the countertop beside the window for a nice view of the city while we eat. While I was eating the burger I couldn't help but to notice down on the streets a figure of someone sitting down, in fact I could multiple figures sitting down. All of them were homeless people begging for change to try and get them through the day. Out of all the homeless beggars on the street I was generally drawn ... A former marketing executive was saddened by the conditions that the homeless of her San Francisco streets were living in. She realized that many of the homeless she saw were very dirty and probably did not have access to a shower. The entire city of San Francisco only has 16 to 20 shower stalls available for use of the homeless population which includes around 6,500 people. This means that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Empathy For Homeless People People do not show enough empathy towards people who unfortunately are homeless they show compassion but don't do anything to make a difference for them. Empathy is sharing the same emotions and feelings towards another person. Because of the lack of empathy of homeless people, society is not empathetic enough. Obviously there's a lack of empathy for homeless people because they're not fortinet. Three to seven of those cities are in america. And in Salt Lake, Utah they held a 4 hour meeting, a couple weeks later mayor Troy Walker brang up he wanted to invite two new homeless shelter into the area. The community responded in a childish manner as a homeless man named Lawrence Horman stood on stage the stage telling about himself and what he had to go thru being homeless as he was asking for support and help and said "we'll help ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So people walk past and could careless or forget about putting effort to get these people off the streets. People should not shame someone asking for help and trying to do better people don't have enough empathy because if they did they would consider how the homeless and feel and try to understand how it would be in there shoes if people have did have enough empathy they wouldn't boo or be against people that are unfortunate with little to no money some of them have kids and if there child they wouldn't want the community to be against them. As the united states we should own up to the reputation be build. We don't show enough empathy like the boy in this video "persectalces". At first this high schooler walk past a boy sitting on the ground trying to write in his note book with a long face the high school boy look at him and walks past. So people in this generation don't understand just by giving someone a piece a food or a shelter could help then in the long run in life and can them look at the world ...
