SHOPPING ROLE PLAY GUIDELINES
1. Get into groups of 4.
2. Write a conversation between a shop assistant (person A)and three customers (person B, C and D) in
a clothes shop.
3. Person B enters a shop in order to buy something. B has a talk with A. Then, person C and D enter
the same shop in order to buy something. They have a talk with A.
4. Shopping expressions:
– Can I help you?
– How much are they? / How much is it?
– Yes, of course
– Can I try it on? / Can I try them on?
– What size are you?
– Where's the fitting room?
– Just over there
– Here you are
– That's 30 pounds
– I'm afraid we don't have that size at the moment
– I'm just looking
– What about this one?
– What colour are you looking for?

– Do you accept credit cards?
– That's great. I'll take it.
– Oh sorry, it's very expensive for me
– I take size small / medium / large / extra large

5. Props or atrezzo:
- a poster on the blackboard with the name of the clothes shop and a logo
- a telephone, a laptop, pens, papers, a till, customized bags ( with the logo of your shop), a mirror, a fitting
room, clothes(skirts, trousers, jeans, jumpers, belts, bags, shirts, blouses, T-shirts...), hangers, labels with prices...
6. Do the role play in front of the classroom.
7. Pay attention to: gestures, expressivity, body language, pronunciation, intonation, eye contact, voice,
diction, imagination and creativity, general presentation, costumes, props, cooperation and effort.
