I have chosen to analyse the teaser trailer of ‘a girl
like her’, because I think it is relevant to the film
that we have chosen to create, so by analysing this
it will help us when we are creating our teaser
trailer.
This teaser trailer is 1 minute and 40 seconds long,
this is a bit longer than a conventional teaser trailer.
The trailer consisted of around 40-50 shots.
The narrative that we can establish from the trailer
is showing a group of teenage girls, who are
represented as the ‘popular’ group in school, the
main girl seems to be loved and looked up to by
everyone. However she doesn’t end up being as
nice as she seems. She bullies another girl at
school who seems to be an outsider, we are shown
verbal bullying in school and near the end of the
trailer we are also shown that she is being sent
messages online. She is only ever shown with one
person in the trailer, where as the girl who is
bullying her always has about 4 other girls with her
which connotes that she has more power.
 Mise en scene- For the mise en scene in this shot the first
thing that we can establish is the location, the sign on the red
brick building says ‘High School’ which tells us that the setting is
in a high school. The lighting is quite bright which signifies that it
is a normal day and there is nothing out of the ordinary. We do
not see any characters in this shot we are only shown the
school.
 Camera work- This shot is showing us a mid shot of the
school building. By using a mid shot they have been able to
show the sign that says ‘High School’ which helps the audience
to establish the location. There is no particular movement of the
camera however it was quite shaky which may mean that it is
being filmed with a hand held camera.
 Editing- in this shot there is not a lot of editing that seems to
have been done, the transition from the shot before hand faded
to black before a quick fade was used in to this shot. When
going in to the next shot a hard cut was used which creates a
sense of realism as there is no effect. The shot only lasts for
about 1 second, or maybe even less which just gives the
audience a short snippet of the location just so they can see it,
as it is a teaser trailer they don’t have to become too familiar
with it
 Sound- For the sound in this shot, the first thing we hear is the
non-diegetic music, the music is quite quiet and slow, and then
starts to become slightly upbeat. The mood of the music is quite
happy and makes everything seem normal. We also hear the
diegetic sound of a school bell. This again establishes that the
location is in a school and it suggests that it may be in the
morning at the start of the school day.
 Mise en scene- For the location in this shot we can see that the girls are
inside the school and are standing by some lockers which is representative of a
school as it is stereotypical to have lockers like this in a school. We see the 5 girls
standing around by the lockers, with the focus on the main girl in the middle. She
is wearing a pink dress which connotes that she is a stereotypical girly girl. She
also has her hair pinned back and looks as though she has a fair amount of
makeup on which also represents her to be a mean/popular girl from stereotypes
that have been formed in other teen films. The other girls seem to be mostly
wearing jeans and a top or jacket, they all seem to be fairly colourful which makes
them fit in with the main girl. The other girls are positioned around her which also
shows her to have power and that they look up to her. She is glancing back
looking directly towards the camera looking quite emotionless which makes the
audience wonder what or who she is looking at.
 Camera work- the camerawork used here for this shot is a mid shot of the
five girls, this allows for the audience to see her face but also to see their outfits.
The shot is quite still again but slightly shaky so it may again have been a
handheld camera which it seems to be in most of the trailer. This creates the
effect that it is in someone else's point of view so we are seeing what they see
which makes the audience feel as though they are part of it.
 Editing- The editing in this shot is fairly simple, for the transitions they have
just used hard cuts which creates a sense of realism as there is no different
effect. The length of the shot is very short again we just see a very short time of
the girls standing by the lockers as the main girl glances back towards the camera
and then it moves on to the next shot. The fast pace editing allows us just to see a
teaser of the film which is the point of the teaser trailer, it also allows us to be
introduced to the characters and the setting of the film in a short amount of time.
 Sound- For the sound in this shot we can still hear the non diegetic sound of
the music that was playing in the previous shots, the music had started to become
more upbeat as this shot came on as we are starting to be introduced to this main
character. We then also hear a non-diegetic voiceover of her talking. Over this
shot we hear ‘My name is Avery Keller’ which further introduces us to the
character by telling us her name. Having a voiceover helps to tell the audience
more information about the character and what is going on in the trailer.
 Mise en scene- The location of this shot looks as if it is in the bedroom of the
girl in the shot. We can establish this because she seems to be lying on a bed, and in
the background we can see a mirror and a computer on a desk, there also seems to
be a few objects that are pink which connotes that they may belong to a girl. She is
wearing a pink cardigan from what we can see which again links to her being a
stereotypical girly girl . Her hair is tied back and it looks as though she is wearing
minimal makeup which suggests that she is more relaxed at home and doesn’t care
so much about her appearance. The lighting is quite bright and looks as though it is
artificial light which may suggest that it is evening time as there is no day light.
 Camera work- A close up shot was used for this, it is also a handheld shot,
the girl is filming herself in a vlog style where she is talking to the camera. This allows
the audience to see her close up and be properly introduced to her. The angle that it
is filmed from is a bit low which makes her look bigger and higher up which makes
her seem more in power, this may make the audience think about what could be to
come.
 Editing- The editing used in this shot is also very simple as hard cuts are used to
transition on both sides of the shot. The length of this shot is longer that the other
shots that we had seen previously, this is because there is dialogue and we are
properly introduced to the character. This allows us to be further introduced to the
character as the shot is longer and allows us to see more.
 Sound- The sound in this clip is similar to the previous clips. We can hear the
continued non diegetic music which keeps the mood quite upbeat and happy. We
also hear the diegetic sound of dialogue which has been continued from the
voiceover that was in the previous shot. The dialogue used in this shot is her saying
‘I’m just your normal teenage girl’. This signifies to the audience that she thinks she is
normal, but it may make the audience question it and wonder if she is a normal
teenage girl. The style of her voice sounds like a normal teenage girl, being quite high
pitched, however the way she says this line makes her sound slightly like she isn’t
genuine and is a bit fake which may make the audience question her.
 Mise en scene- The location of this shot is in a school corridor, we
can establish this because of the lockers which are stereotypical of a school
and also we can see girls who seem to be holding books which again
represents them as being students. The girls are both wearing leggings and a
jumper, and one of them is wearing ugg boots, one has their hair up and one
has it down and it is unclear weather they are wearing makeup. They look like
normal teenage girls would and seem very normal, in comparison to Avery
who has seemed more dressed up and like she puts a lot of effort in to her
appearance. The lighting suggests that this is in the daytime as you can see
the natural lighting coming through which creates a light mood.
 Camera work- This shot is a long shot which allows us to see the girls
full at first, the girls are then walking towards the camera and the person
holding the camera is walking towards them, the person holding the camera
is assumed to be Avery as you hear her talking. As the camera is hand held it
is very shaky as she is walking which makes the shot unclear at some points,
however the hand held camera gives a sense of realism as the angles, shots
and movements make you feel as though you are there.
 Editing- The transition going in to this shot is just a hard cut, and going
out of this shot it fades in to a title that is shown on the screen. The way it
fades out in to a title stops the sense of realism slightly as you stop seeing the
shots for a minute and are shown some text. The length of this shot is a bit
longer than some of the others again because there is some dialogue and it
helps to really portray what the characters are like and what goes on in the
school as well as trying to show a bit of the story.
 Sound- The sound in this is similar to the previous shots, we hear the
same music from the previous shots which makes the mood quite happy and
everything seem pretty ordinary. We also hear some diegetic dialogue, we
hear Avery from behind the camera saying ‘Hi Girls’ and them saying ’Hi’ and
‘I like your shirt’, we also then hear Avery respond saying ’thank you’. The
way that she talks to people round school, and the things that people say to
here suggests that she is popular and that people like her, she seems to be
nice to people however it may be an act as the way she is talking is almost
overly happy which makes it seem fake which suggests that she may not be
as nice as she makes out. The way she talks to people is as if she has power.
 Mise en scene- In this shot we can see that it still seems to be in the
school, however in a slightly different location, they are near the stairs in the
school which seems to be very quiet and you can only see one girl in the
background who is with Avery. They are both dressed nicely but quite simple,
Avery is wearing pink again ad the girl in the back is wearing a yellow top which
adds to the brighter colours. The lighting is bright and the lighting Is natural
meaning that it is daytime. However the colour of the shot is a bit more dull
which makes it seem as though things may not be so good anymore, this makes
the mood a bit more downbeat.
 Camera work- the camerawork here is again using a hand held camera,
or a camera that has been attached to someone. We mostly see a mid shot/
point of view which has been used throughout most of the trailer, this shows us
what the person on the other side is seeing. It allows us to see the movement of
when Avery drags the other person, as well as seeing her from their POV. This
allows us to feel as though we are there and what it would be like to be the other
person.
 Editing- The transition in to this shot is a fade from black, and out of the shot
is also faded to black before the next shot. This helps to add to the drama of
what's going on, and adds to the suspense because there is a slight pause
before the next shot. The pace of editing is also starting to get slower as it gets
on and events start to unfold. The saturation of the shot has also been lowered
to give a dull effect which also adds to the effect of what is happening in terms of
the bullying.
 Sound- We still hear the music in this shot, however the music has become
much more intense, low and slow paced, this builds suspense and suits the
mood of what is going on. It makes the audience feel more on edge and leaves
them anticipating what is to come. We also hear dialogue of Avery talking to the
person behind the camera saying ‘where do you think you’re going?’ this shows
a different side to her as she is speaking in a threatening way compared to how
she was before which portrays her in a different way and she starts to be
represented as a mean girl.
 Mise en scene- The location of this shot is still in the school,
the girl in the shot is walking towards the door and her facial
expressions look upset, this may be signifying that something has
happened and she is about to walk out of the school, he body is also
facing towards the door which again signifies that she may be
walking towards the door. She is wearing a black coat with a pink
scarf and hat, she has her hair down and is wearing minimal
makeup, she looks a bit different to a lot of the other people that we
have seen which may connote that she is a bit of an outcast. The
lighting is bright natural lighting which creates a sense of realism.
 Camera work- The use of a handheld camera is continued in
this shot, it is a POV/mid shot of the girl, from her friends pov as he is
walking towards her. This again gives you the sense of being in the
film and seeing what they can see. She is shown to be quite
venerable as she walks away from the camera and the camera
moved towards her.
 Editing- The transitions in this shot are fades from and to black
again, this adds to the suspense and drama of what is going on and
makes the audience feel more on edge as they know that what is
going on is not good. The shot is quite short which makes the pace
faster which adds to the suspense and builds up tension quicker.
 Sound- the music carries on being quite dark and intense in this
shot adding to the tension and suspense of the storyline and seems
as though it is gradually building up to something. There is also
some diegetic dialogue, the girls friend says ’is everything ok?’ and
she replies with ‘I just want to go home’ which connotes that she is
not happy and the events of what happened have upset her and
made her want to go home. This may have made her feel venerable
and uncomfortable. She spoke quite quickly which made it seem as
though she was in a rush, this may have been because she was
upset and wanted to get home.
 Mise en scene-in this shot the location seems to be within some
changing rooms, most likely still at the school. We can establish this
from the lockers and benches that we can see in the background
which we would be likely to see in a school changing rooms. The
costumes also suggest this because all of the girls that we see in the
shot are wearing the same thing, they are all wearing sporty looking
clothes which are a grey t-shirt and a red sports jumper from what we
can see. The lighting is quite bright however it looks as though it is
artificial which makes it unclear as to what time of day it is. However
the colour in the shot seems to be quite dull which reflects on the
mood.
 Camera work- We see a handheld camera used again in this shot as
this is the way that the trailer/film has been made. This puts the
audience in the position of the person holding the camera which
allows you to get an insight as to what it is like for them. In this case
we get to be in the position of the girl that is being bullied, we see a
mid shot which makes it clear that the girls are quite close to her.
This shows the proximity of the people and the movement is shown
more clearly.
 Editing- The transition in to this shot is faded in from black. The
saturation is turned down quite low in this shot which reflects the
mood well in terms of what is going on in the scene. As the scene
has quite a low mood the dullness of the colours represents the mood
of the scene. The transition out of the shot is also faded in to black,
the fade in to black may reflect the mood of the girl as she would be
feeling very low.
 Sound- We continue to hear the music in this scene however it is
quite quiet because we can hear dialogue as well. The non diegetic
music is still quite quiet and low to enhance the mood and to get it
across to he audience. The dialogue that we hear is Avery saying
'Guys do you smell anything? Its kind of embarrassing I think we
should take care of that'. This shows just a small insight of the way
that Avery treats this other girl to show the audience what the film
may be like. It also allows the audience to get an idea of what is
going on and it helps to portray the way that these girls act and how
they make people feel.
 Mise en scene- in this shot we are shown the girl sitting in what
looks like her bedroom. We can only see from her shoulders up but it
looks like she is dressed casually as she is wearing a plain grey top/t-shirt.
In the background we can see that she is leaning against a colourful
cushion and we can also see things stuck up on the wall which makes it
look like a home and possibly her bedroom because it looks like a
personal place. Th colour that we can see may like to how she would
normally be. This is contradicted by her facial expressions as she looks
very upset, you can see her frowning and as if she is about to cry, and we
can assume this is because of what is happening at school.
 Camera work- This is a close up shot that we see of the girl when
she is sitting in her room, this allows us to clearly see her facial
expressions which helps us to establish how she is feeling. The camera
still seems to be handheld as well as it is still a bit shaky however it is
more steady than some other shots. This helps the audience to be put in
to their perspective.
 Editing- The editing in this shot has hard cuts at the beginning and the
end of the shots, this makes the pace feel a bit faster. With the faster pace
of editing they have used it helps to build the suspense. The quick shots
that they are putting together is forming in to a montage which is also
helping to build tension and suspense coming up towards the end of the
trailer.
 Sound- We can hear the non-diegetic music that we had heard in the
rest of the trailer in this shot still. The music has become quite intense
while still being quite low which creates an intense and down mood. We
also hear the diegetic dialogue of the girl saying 'I just don’t know why she
hates me so much', this allows us to hear how she feels about her
situation at school and how she is being treated we are able to see how it
has affected her as we haven't been shown this as much through the
trailer.
 Mise en scene- in this shot we can see a computer screen, on
the screen we are seeing messages that have been received, a lot of
these messages have been sent by Avery, We can see the horrible
names that Avery is calling the other girl, as well as telling her to 'Die
already' which shows how far the bullying is going, I think in this film
the are trying to get across the effect that bullying and even just little
comments can have on people. The messages have also been sent
over email, this may be because it is something through school and is
an easy way to contact her which connotes that she can never get
away from it.
 Camera work- for the camera work in this shot, we are shown
an extreme close up of the computer screen, this allows us to see the
messages on the screen and what they say easily as well as being
able to see who they are from. This is also likely to be a POV shot of
her looking at the computer and reading the massages which allows
us to see from her perspective.
 Editing- for the editing of this shot there is hard cuts either side of it
as the transitions. It is part of the montage near the end of the trailer
which also means that the shot is very shot as the montage is using
fast pace editing in order to build suspense and tension which helps to
reflect the drama. This means that the audience only see's a very
quick amount of the messages however they see enough to get the
idea of what it is.
 Sound- The only sound that we hear in this shot is non diegetic
sound of music that has been playing throughout all of the trailer. The
music at this point is still quite intense and starts to get a little bit faster
at this point in the montage as the editing starts to become a bit faster.
This helps to build the tension and suspense to keep the audience on
edge.
 Throughout the trailer titles are
used between certain clips. All
the titles look the same with a
light background and with half of
the writing black and half of it
white with a red background.
This makes certain words stand
out more as they are the most
important and relevant. The style
of the titles is similar to the way
they have made the title on the
poster which helps to create a
good brand identity as people
will be able to recognize this
feature.
 The teaser trailer overall leaves the audience wondering what may
happen in the end with the story line, and how far Avery may go. It
leaves the audience with the enigma of wondering how it will end and
what it will take for it to stop.
 The main USP of this film is how it is filmed all the way through with a
hand held camera so we are constantly seeing from one of the
characters point of view which will allow the audience to feel more
part of the film and will keep them more on the edge of their seats.
 I think that the target audience for this film is teenagers that are in
high school, so around 12-18, they may be aiming it mire at girls
because the main characters are girls, I think they are trying to attract
this audience to get a message across about bullying and what it can
lead to. They are doing this by using relatable characters to entice
the audience.
 I think that this will help us when we are creating out teaser trailer
because we have a similar storyline in some parts. This may help to
give us some ideas, for example with the hand held camera, we may
chose to use this in certain parts of our trailer to put the audience in
the characters position.
The title is shown in the middle of the
poster. They have used capital letters which
helps it to stand out more and they have
used a simple font which makes it more
effective. They have made the font white for
‘A GIRL’, and for the part where it says
‘LIKE HER’, they have used black font with
a red background. This makes this part
stand out more which will make the
audience wonder what is meant by the title
and why the emphasis is on ‘like her’, it also
leaves you wondering which girl it is about.
The tag line at the top of the poster says
‘everybody’s dream girl, one girl’s nightmare’.
This helps to start establishing the narrative of
the film and helps to show the genre. Helps to
create a brand identity as it should be
something that people will remember and
relate to the film.
The main image that we see on the poster is
showing us the tow main characters. We can see
half of each of their faces very close up. Both of
the girls have very different expressions on their
faces. The girl on the left hand side is looking
downwards with a sad expression on her face.
Whereas the girl on the right hand side is looking
straight at the camera with a more determined
and almost angry/evil expression on her face.
This makes the girl on the right hand side look
more powerful and the girl on the left looks more
venerable which allows us to link this to the tag
line so we can establish what the relationship
may be like between the two girls.
The photos have been taken very
close up which is allowing us to
see the facial expressions of the
characters which allows us to
establish what there characters
are like and what there feelings
are.
In very small font at the bottom of the
poster they have put the release date f
the film. This makes people aware of
when they will be able to see the film,
however they have not made this the
main feature of the poster they have
focused more on the characters and the
title of the film.
The girl on the right hand side looks as though
she has been more made up than the girl on the
left. This may be to show the representations of
both girls. So the girl on the left looks different,
maybe cares less about her appearance and is
more of an outsider. The girl on the right is then
shown to be someone that cares more about
her appearance and may be someone that is
more popular in school, this can also be
represented by the look on her face as she
looks like a bit f a mean girl that is typical of
someone in school.
As we can see two teenage girls on the
poster, this may mean that it will attract girls
of a similar age. I would say the target
audience of this film is girls of around 13-18
as this is the age of people in high school
and that people may go through similar
situations. By showing the girls on the
poster and having the tag line this may help
to attract this audience.
The dark background colours used on the poster, and
the way they have made the overall look of the poster
quite dark to focus o the faces, helps to emphasize the
genre of drama. The close ups of the faces and the
facial expressions also help to show the genre as they
show emotion and we are able to see the ages of the
girls which help to connote that it is teen based which
is often followed by drama.
 I think that the poster helps to show the genre of a drama
through the use of colours and camera shots, as well as
characters expressions. They show the USP of the story
line through the tag line and where they say ’based on a
million true stories’, this shows the message that they are
trying to get across to show people what actually happens
to some people and how far it can go.
 We may take inspiration from the poster, we may chose to
use a two shot on our poster with both of our main
character on it. The white black and red colours is also an
idea that we had been thinking of for the colour scheme of
our poster so we can also try and take some ideas from
the way that they have used it and how they have been
able to represent the genre with it.

Textual analysis media- a girl like her

  • 1. I have chosen to analyse the teaser trailer of ‘a girl like her’, because I think it is relevant to the film that we have chosen to create, so by analysing this it will help us when we are creating our teaser trailer. This teaser trailer is 1 minute and 40 seconds long, this is a bit longer than a conventional teaser trailer. The trailer consisted of around 40-50 shots. The narrative that we can establish from the trailer is showing a group of teenage girls, who are represented as the ‘popular’ group in school, the main girl seems to be loved and looked up to by everyone. However she doesn’t end up being as nice as she seems. She bullies another girl at school who seems to be an outsider, we are shown verbal bullying in school and near the end of the trailer we are also shown that she is being sent messages online. She is only ever shown with one person in the trailer, where as the girl who is bullying her always has about 4 other girls with her which connotes that she has more power.
  • 2.  Mise en scene- For the mise en scene in this shot the first thing that we can establish is the location, the sign on the red brick building says ‘High School’ which tells us that the setting is in a high school. The lighting is quite bright which signifies that it is a normal day and there is nothing out of the ordinary. We do not see any characters in this shot we are only shown the school.  Camera work- This shot is showing us a mid shot of the school building. By using a mid shot they have been able to show the sign that says ‘High School’ which helps the audience to establish the location. There is no particular movement of the camera however it was quite shaky which may mean that it is being filmed with a hand held camera.  Editing- in this shot there is not a lot of editing that seems to have been done, the transition from the shot before hand faded to black before a quick fade was used in to this shot. When going in to the next shot a hard cut was used which creates a sense of realism as there is no effect. The shot only lasts for about 1 second, or maybe even less which just gives the audience a short snippet of the location just so they can see it, as it is a teaser trailer they don’t have to become too familiar with it  Sound- For the sound in this shot, the first thing we hear is the non-diegetic music, the music is quite quiet and slow, and then starts to become slightly upbeat. The mood of the music is quite happy and makes everything seem normal. We also hear the diegetic sound of a school bell. This again establishes that the location is in a school and it suggests that it may be in the morning at the start of the school day.
  • 3.  Mise en scene- For the location in this shot we can see that the girls are inside the school and are standing by some lockers which is representative of a school as it is stereotypical to have lockers like this in a school. We see the 5 girls standing around by the lockers, with the focus on the main girl in the middle. She is wearing a pink dress which connotes that she is a stereotypical girly girl. She also has her hair pinned back and looks as though she has a fair amount of makeup on which also represents her to be a mean/popular girl from stereotypes that have been formed in other teen films. The other girls seem to be mostly wearing jeans and a top or jacket, they all seem to be fairly colourful which makes them fit in with the main girl. The other girls are positioned around her which also shows her to have power and that they look up to her. She is glancing back looking directly towards the camera looking quite emotionless which makes the audience wonder what or who she is looking at.  Camera work- the camerawork used here for this shot is a mid shot of the five girls, this allows for the audience to see her face but also to see their outfits. The shot is quite still again but slightly shaky so it may again have been a handheld camera which it seems to be in most of the trailer. This creates the effect that it is in someone else's point of view so we are seeing what they see which makes the audience feel as though they are part of it.  Editing- The editing in this shot is fairly simple, for the transitions they have just used hard cuts which creates a sense of realism as there is no different effect. The length of the shot is very short again we just see a very short time of the girls standing by the lockers as the main girl glances back towards the camera and then it moves on to the next shot. The fast pace editing allows us just to see a teaser of the film which is the point of the teaser trailer, it also allows us to be introduced to the characters and the setting of the film in a short amount of time.  Sound- For the sound in this shot we can still hear the non diegetic sound of the music that was playing in the previous shots, the music had started to become more upbeat as this shot came on as we are starting to be introduced to this main character. We then also hear a non-diegetic voiceover of her talking. Over this shot we hear ‘My name is Avery Keller’ which further introduces us to the character by telling us her name. Having a voiceover helps to tell the audience more information about the character and what is going on in the trailer.
  • 4.  Mise en scene- The location of this shot looks as if it is in the bedroom of the girl in the shot. We can establish this because she seems to be lying on a bed, and in the background we can see a mirror and a computer on a desk, there also seems to be a few objects that are pink which connotes that they may belong to a girl. She is wearing a pink cardigan from what we can see which again links to her being a stereotypical girly girl . Her hair is tied back and it looks as though she is wearing minimal makeup which suggests that she is more relaxed at home and doesn’t care so much about her appearance. The lighting is quite bright and looks as though it is artificial light which may suggest that it is evening time as there is no day light.  Camera work- A close up shot was used for this, it is also a handheld shot, the girl is filming herself in a vlog style where she is talking to the camera. This allows the audience to see her close up and be properly introduced to her. The angle that it is filmed from is a bit low which makes her look bigger and higher up which makes her seem more in power, this may make the audience think about what could be to come.  Editing- The editing used in this shot is also very simple as hard cuts are used to transition on both sides of the shot. The length of this shot is longer that the other shots that we had seen previously, this is because there is dialogue and we are properly introduced to the character. This allows us to be further introduced to the character as the shot is longer and allows us to see more.  Sound- The sound in this clip is similar to the previous clips. We can hear the continued non diegetic music which keeps the mood quite upbeat and happy. We also hear the diegetic sound of dialogue which has been continued from the voiceover that was in the previous shot. The dialogue used in this shot is her saying ‘I’m just your normal teenage girl’. This signifies to the audience that she thinks she is normal, but it may make the audience question it and wonder if she is a normal teenage girl. The style of her voice sounds like a normal teenage girl, being quite high pitched, however the way she says this line makes her sound slightly like she isn’t genuine and is a bit fake which may make the audience question her.
  • 5.  Mise en scene- The location of this shot is in a school corridor, we can establish this because of the lockers which are stereotypical of a school and also we can see girls who seem to be holding books which again represents them as being students. The girls are both wearing leggings and a jumper, and one of them is wearing ugg boots, one has their hair up and one has it down and it is unclear weather they are wearing makeup. They look like normal teenage girls would and seem very normal, in comparison to Avery who has seemed more dressed up and like she puts a lot of effort in to her appearance. The lighting suggests that this is in the daytime as you can see the natural lighting coming through which creates a light mood.  Camera work- This shot is a long shot which allows us to see the girls full at first, the girls are then walking towards the camera and the person holding the camera is walking towards them, the person holding the camera is assumed to be Avery as you hear her talking. As the camera is hand held it is very shaky as she is walking which makes the shot unclear at some points, however the hand held camera gives a sense of realism as the angles, shots and movements make you feel as though you are there.  Editing- The transition going in to this shot is just a hard cut, and going out of this shot it fades in to a title that is shown on the screen. The way it fades out in to a title stops the sense of realism slightly as you stop seeing the shots for a minute and are shown some text. The length of this shot is a bit longer than some of the others again because there is some dialogue and it helps to really portray what the characters are like and what goes on in the school as well as trying to show a bit of the story.  Sound- The sound in this is similar to the previous shots, we hear the same music from the previous shots which makes the mood quite happy and everything seem pretty ordinary. We also hear some diegetic dialogue, we hear Avery from behind the camera saying ‘Hi Girls’ and them saying ’Hi’ and ‘I like your shirt’, we also then hear Avery respond saying ’thank you’. The way that she talks to people round school, and the things that people say to here suggests that she is popular and that people like her, she seems to be nice to people however it may be an act as the way she is talking is almost overly happy which makes it seem fake which suggests that she may not be as nice as she makes out. The way she talks to people is as if she has power.
  • 6.  Mise en scene- In this shot we can see that it still seems to be in the school, however in a slightly different location, they are near the stairs in the school which seems to be very quiet and you can only see one girl in the background who is with Avery. They are both dressed nicely but quite simple, Avery is wearing pink again ad the girl in the back is wearing a yellow top which adds to the brighter colours. The lighting is bright and the lighting Is natural meaning that it is daytime. However the colour of the shot is a bit more dull which makes it seem as though things may not be so good anymore, this makes the mood a bit more downbeat.  Camera work- the camerawork here is again using a hand held camera, or a camera that has been attached to someone. We mostly see a mid shot/ point of view which has been used throughout most of the trailer, this shows us what the person on the other side is seeing. It allows us to see the movement of when Avery drags the other person, as well as seeing her from their POV. This allows us to feel as though we are there and what it would be like to be the other person.  Editing- The transition in to this shot is a fade from black, and out of the shot is also faded to black before the next shot. This helps to add to the drama of what's going on, and adds to the suspense because there is a slight pause before the next shot. The pace of editing is also starting to get slower as it gets on and events start to unfold. The saturation of the shot has also been lowered to give a dull effect which also adds to the effect of what is happening in terms of the bullying.  Sound- We still hear the music in this shot, however the music has become much more intense, low and slow paced, this builds suspense and suits the mood of what is going on. It makes the audience feel more on edge and leaves them anticipating what is to come. We also hear dialogue of Avery talking to the person behind the camera saying ‘where do you think you’re going?’ this shows a different side to her as she is speaking in a threatening way compared to how she was before which portrays her in a different way and she starts to be represented as a mean girl.
  • 7.  Mise en scene- The location of this shot is still in the school, the girl in the shot is walking towards the door and her facial expressions look upset, this may be signifying that something has happened and she is about to walk out of the school, he body is also facing towards the door which again signifies that she may be walking towards the door. She is wearing a black coat with a pink scarf and hat, she has her hair down and is wearing minimal makeup, she looks a bit different to a lot of the other people that we have seen which may connote that she is a bit of an outcast. The lighting is bright natural lighting which creates a sense of realism.  Camera work- The use of a handheld camera is continued in this shot, it is a POV/mid shot of the girl, from her friends pov as he is walking towards her. This again gives you the sense of being in the film and seeing what they can see. She is shown to be quite venerable as she walks away from the camera and the camera moved towards her.  Editing- The transitions in this shot are fades from and to black again, this adds to the suspense and drama of what is going on and makes the audience feel more on edge as they know that what is going on is not good. The shot is quite short which makes the pace faster which adds to the suspense and builds up tension quicker.  Sound- the music carries on being quite dark and intense in this shot adding to the tension and suspense of the storyline and seems as though it is gradually building up to something. There is also some diegetic dialogue, the girls friend says ’is everything ok?’ and she replies with ‘I just want to go home’ which connotes that she is not happy and the events of what happened have upset her and made her want to go home. This may have made her feel venerable and uncomfortable. She spoke quite quickly which made it seem as though she was in a rush, this may have been because she was upset and wanted to get home.
  • 8.  Mise en scene-in this shot the location seems to be within some changing rooms, most likely still at the school. We can establish this from the lockers and benches that we can see in the background which we would be likely to see in a school changing rooms. The costumes also suggest this because all of the girls that we see in the shot are wearing the same thing, they are all wearing sporty looking clothes which are a grey t-shirt and a red sports jumper from what we can see. The lighting is quite bright however it looks as though it is artificial which makes it unclear as to what time of day it is. However the colour in the shot seems to be quite dull which reflects on the mood.  Camera work- We see a handheld camera used again in this shot as this is the way that the trailer/film has been made. This puts the audience in the position of the person holding the camera which allows you to get an insight as to what it is like for them. In this case we get to be in the position of the girl that is being bullied, we see a mid shot which makes it clear that the girls are quite close to her. This shows the proximity of the people and the movement is shown more clearly.  Editing- The transition in to this shot is faded in from black. The saturation is turned down quite low in this shot which reflects the mood well in terms of what is going on in the scene. As the scene has quite a low mood the dullness of the colours represents the mood of the scene. The transition out of the shot is also faded in to black, the fade in to black may reflect the mood of the girl as she would be feeling very low.  Sound- We continue to hear the music in this scene however it is quite quiet because we can hear dialogue as well. The non diegetic music is still quite quiet and low to enhance the mood and to get it across to he audience. The dialogue that we hear is Avery saying 'Guys do you smell anything? Its kind of embarrassing I think we should take care of that'. This shows just a small insight of the way that Avery treats this other girl to show the audience what the film may be like. It also allows the audience to get an idea of what is going on and it helps to portray the way that these girls act and how they make people feel.
  • 9.  Mise en scene- in this shot we are shown the girl sitting in what looks like her bedroom. We can only see from her shoulders up but it looks like she is dressed casually as she is wearing a plain grey top/t-shirt. In the background we can see that she is leaning against a colourful cushion and we can also see things stuck up on the wall which makes it look like a home and possibly her bedroom because it looks like a personal place. Th colour that we can see may like to how she would normally be. This is contradicted by her facial expressions as she looks very upset, you can see her frowning and as if she is about to cry, and we can assume this is because of what is happening at school.  Camera work- This is a close up shot that we see of the girl when she is sitting in her room, this allows us to clearly see her facial expressions which helps us to establish how she is feeling. The camera still seems to be handheld as well as it is still a bit shaky however it is more steady than some other shots. This helps the audience to be put in to their perspective.  Editing- The editing in this shot has hard cuts at the beginning and the end of the shots, this makes the pace feel a bit faster. With the faster pace of editing they have used it helps to build the suspense. The quick shots that they are putting together is forming in to a montage which is also helping to build tension and suspense coming up towards the end of the trailer.  Sound- We can hear the non-diegetic music that we had heard in the rest of the trailer in this shot still. The music has become quite intense while still being quite low which creates an intense and down mood. We also hear the diegetic dialogue of the girl saying 'I just don’t know why she hates me so much', this allows us to hear how she feels about her situation at school and how she is being treated we are able to see how it has affected her as we haven't been shown this as much through the trailer.
  • 10.  Mise en scene- in this shot we can see a computer screen, on the screen we are seeing messages that have been received, a lot of these messages have been sent by Avery, We can see the horrible names that Avery is calling the other girl, as well as telling her to 'Die already' which shows how far the bullying is going, I think in this film the are trying to get across the effect that bullying and even just little comments can have on people. The messages have also been sent over email, this may be because it is something through school and is an easy way to contact her which connotes that she can never get away from it.  Camera work- for the camera work in this shot, we are shown an extreme close up of the computer screen, this allows us to see the messages on the screen and what they say easily as well as being able to see who they are from. This is also likely to be a POV shot of her looking at the computer and reading the massages which allows us to see from her perspective.  Editing- for the editing of this shot there is hard cuts either side of it as the transitions. It is part of the montage near the end of the trailer which also means that the shot is very shot as the montage is using fast pace editing in order to build suspense and tension which helps to reflect the drama. This means that the audience only see's a very quick amount of the messages however they see enough to get the idea of what it is.  Sound- The only sound that we hear in this shot is non diegetic sound of music that has been playing throughout all of the trailer. The music at this point is still quite intense and starts to get a little bit faster at this point in the montage as the editing starts to become a bit faster. This helps to build the tension and suspense to keep the audience on edge.
  • 11.  Throughout the trailer titles are used between certain clips. All the titles look the same with a light background and with half of the writing black and half of it white with a red background. This makes certain words stand out more as they are the most important and relevant. The style of the titles is similar to the way they have made the title on the poster which helps to create a good brand identity as people will be able to recognize this feature.
  • 12.  The teaser trailer overall leaves the audience wondering what may happen in the end with the story line, and how far Avery may go. It leaves the audience with the enigma of wondering how it will end and what it will take for it to stop.  The main USP of this film is how it is filmed all the way through with a hand held camera so we are constantly seeing from one of the characters point of view which will allow the audience to feel more part of the film and will keep them more on the edge of their seats.  I think that the target audience for this film is teenagers that are in high school, so around 12-18, they may be aiming it mire at girls because the main characters are girls, I think they are trying to attract this audience to get a message across about bullying and what it can lead to. They are doing this by using relatable characters to entice the audience.  I think that this will help us when we are creating out teaser trailer because we have a similar storyline in some parts. This may help to give us some ideas, for example with the hand held camera, we may chose to use this in certain parts of our trailer to put the audience in the characters position.
  • 13. The title is shown in the middle of the poster. They have used capital letters which helps it to stand out more and they have used a simple font which makes it more effective. They have made the font white for ‘A GIRL’, and for the part where it says ‘LIKE HER’, they have used black font with a red background. This makes this part stand out more which will make the audience wonder what is meant by the title and why the emphasis is on ‘like her’, it also leaves you wondering which girl it is about. The tag line at the top of the poster says ‘everybody’s dream girl, one girl’s nightmare’. This helps to start establishing the narrative of the film and helps to show the genre. Helps to create a brand identity as it should be something that people will remember and relate to the film. The main image that we see on the poster is showing us the tow main characters. We can see half of each of their faces very close up. Both of the girls have very different expressions on their faces. The girl on the left hand side is looking downwards with a sad expression on her face. Whereas the girl on the right hand side is looking straight at the camera with a more determined and almost angry/evil expression on her face. This makes the girl on the right hand side look more powerful and the girl on the left looks more venerable which allows us to link this to the tag line so we can establish what the relationship may be like between the two girls. The photos have been taken very close up which is allowing us to see the facial expressions of the characters which allows us to establish what there characters are like and what there feelings are. In very small font at the bottom of the poster they have put the release date f the film. This makes people aware of when they will be able to see the film, however they have not made this the main feature of the poster they have focused more on the characters and the title of the film. The girl on the right hand side looks as though she has been more made up than the girl on the left. This may be to show the representations of both girls. So the girl on the left looks different, maybe cares less about her appearance and is more of an outsider. The girl on the right is then shown to be someone that cares more about her appearance and may be someone that is more popular in school, this can also be represented by the look on her face as she looks like a bit f a mean girl that is typical of someone in school. As we can see two teenage girls on the poster, this may mean that it will attract girls of a similar age. I would say the target audience of this film is girls of around 13-18 as this is the age of people in high school and that people may go through similar situations. By showing the girls on the poster and having the tag line this may help to attract this audience. The dark background colours used on the poster, and the way they have made the overall look of the poster quite dark to focus o the faces, helps to emphasize the genre of drama. The close ups of the faces and the facial expressions also help to show the genre as they show emotion and we are able to see the ages of the girls which help to connote that it is teen based which is often followed by drama.
  • 14.  I think that the poster helps to show the genre of a drama through the use of colours and camera shots, as well as characters expressions. They show the USP of the story line through the tag line and where they say ’based on a million true stories’, this shows the message that they are trying to get across to show people what actually happens to some people and how far it can go.  We may take inspiration from the poster, we may chose to use a two shot on our poster with both of our main character on it. The white black and red colours is also an idea that we had been thinking of for the colour scheme of our poster so we can also try and take some ideas from the way that they have used it and how they have been able to represent the genre with it.
