1. 2. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
The main social group we included in our film opening is
married couples.
This is shown in the proposal scene in the restaurant, the
honeymoon scene in the hotel and also in the office later where
the wife says, “Where’s your ring?”
2. Camera:
Starting with the restaurant scene,
the fact that they are a couple soon
to be married is shown with the
medium shot of them holding of
hands .
Also the medium close up of when the
ring is placed on Lisa’s finger. This
shows the seriousness between the
couple representing the fact that any
serious relationship could end up in
marriage.
Although in this scene you cannot hear dialogue the facial
expression and body language gives away a lot about the
couple and tells the story of what is happening.
3. Editing:
With our editing we needed some way of distinguishing
between present day and the flashbacks. We did this by using
fade to blacks which represented how he was in the past and
how he is still now hiding the secret from his wife. This could
represent that however much love and commitment there is
between couples there can still be secrets.
4. Sound:
The main sound that conveys
the married couple is the
diegetic dialogue “where’s
your ring?” This line shows the
sudden doubt and confusion
from Lisa as to why her
husband Simon is not wearing
his wedding ring. But also
shows the fact they are
married and in love by wearing
the wedding rings.
There was also non diegetic sound which was the music used. It was in
a minor pitch which gradually went to major when things were good and
then back to minor when it looked back at the bad past or when we
wanted the audience feel in suspense and suspicion because of
Simons past.
5. Mise en Scene:
We used a hotel room
which helped to represent
that they were on a honey
moon, also the rose petals
on the bed helped to
convey a romantic feel as
roses are often used as a
symbol of desire or love.
We used wedding
rings to make sure
the audience knew
that the couple were
married and in a
serious relationship.
