2.  Our teaser trailer follows
several typical conventions of a
real media product in order to
ensure it is professional and can
clearly be distinguished as a
film trailer. We specifically used
romantic genre conventions to
appeal to our target audience.

3. CAMERA WORK
Close up shots were used in order to emphasize emotion.
Another shot that we found that was regularly used in romantic
teaser trailers was a whip pan. This seemed to be because of the way
it suggests a dreamy atmosphere through the pan of the scene, which
is strongly appropriate to romance.
Two shots seem to be used to help an audience identify the
relationship between two people. When seeing two people very close
and on equal levels we assume there is a positive relations

4. MISE-EN-SCENE
The setting of our teaser trailer was chosen due to the fact it would be
following romantic genre conventions from previous real media. In a
romance the setting is often very varied, however we found there are distinct
similarities. Most settings seemed to be within the “everyday” norm for most
of society; for example the city, a house, a park, a shopping center.
We included appropriate props in order to follow real media conventions.
Romance includes props that are stereotypically linked to the idea of love or
romance in order to help an audience distinguish the genre of the film.
From our research colours used are predominately light, pastel and neutral.
Within romance genre clothing, hair and make-up is very neutral, again tin
order to avoid taking focus off of the emotions trying to be portrayed. The
neutral look also creates a sense of naturalness, which suggests the love is
very pure and natural.
We felt that it was really important to include lots of bright lighting. This
was very effective and helped an audience identify the representation of
positivity.

5. EDITING
Overall romantic editing style seems to remain very slow. This may
be due to the idea of dreaminess and a sort of paradise. We used soft
and slow editing to keep to genre conventions as well as build on this
a very wistful and gentle atmosphere.
Backgrounds are often blurred in order for effect within Romantic
trailers. We included a blur when showing the car accident scene.
We strongly used fast paced editing throughout our trailer. The main
reason for this was to keep the trailer interesting and build on
excitement.

6. SOUND
In a romance a soundtrack is almost always used. We found that it
helps build on the intended mood or atmosphere and puts emphasis
on emotion. Romance is based around strong emotions and therefore
this is really important as it indicates to an audience the mood of a
scene or portrays a more effective emotion.
We used very upbeat and happy music in scenes which revolved
around happiness and love- this was in order to emphasize the
emotions and support acting.
We also found that sound effects are relied on heavily within the
romantic genre. Their main purpose is to help build on a setting and
create a sense of realism. One example we found consistently used
was a phone ringing- this keeps in touch with modern ideas, and the
development of technology within society
