How effective is the combination of
your main and ancillary tasks?
It was important that all of our products had a
lot of things similar, this is so it is clear to the
audience that all of our products are for the
same film. We did this by using a variety of
horror conventions and real media conventions.
The font for our products that we used was called
October crow. Not only was the name appropriate
because the month October and crows can be associated
with Halloween and scary things such as horror films but
also the font had a horror effect to it with the dark
colours and the shadowy effect. So we used the font for
our title which was placed on all of our products in big
writing so the audience was aware of the name and they
can briefly associate the horror genre with our products
by simply seeing the title. The font worked well with all of
the products as it represented the genre of the film. It
helps to create a brand because when the audience see
the font, they will associate it with one of our products.
The colour red is usually associated with horrors
because red is the colour of blood and it can
also be used as the colour of danger and in a
horror film, danger is typically used in the form
of the colour red to show the audience that
danger is going to happen. This is why red was
briefly used in my trailer and ancillary tasks. It
worked well with the products because of the
colours association with the horror genre.
I think that locations for a horror film are important as
locations is an important convention for a horror
product, it help sets the scene as most horrors are
typically associated with specific locations such as grave
yards, abandoned houses and woods, even though we
included some of these in our products, we also used a
school/sixth form too as this isn’t a usual place where a
horror move happens so we challenged a typical
convention and used this to scare the audience more as
they wouldn’t usually see this location in a horror
therefore they could be thinking about what could
happen there, this works because it adds even more
suspension to the products.
In our products we didn’t use many characters
and by using less, the audience could pay more
attention to specific characters and their reason
for being in the film. We used a range of male
and female with a close range of ages as it
would go well with the sixth form location. This
worked well because when reading through the
feedback it is clear that the audience could pay
more attention to the demon which played a
main role throughout our products.
