• This film really explored emotion and the human body. It used sound to show the shift in
emotion when it was obvious to the audience. I like the aesthetics of the film, as they
had thought out the use of colour in the scenes, having the actors wear neutral colours
which contrasted against the natural backgrounds. I also liked that the film used the
elements – having a running water sound in the background of most scenes and having
the actors rub soil on themselves. It was clever how the shots and editing could
communicate to the audience, without having to use dialogue.
• There was times where it was slightly confusing, like when the text popped up on the
screen which didn’t really correlate with what was being shown visually, but I think all-
round that it was a very well thought out film and I would definitely recommend it to
someone who is interested in this type of film. I think that they hit all the marks to appeal
to a niche audience, as it itself is very niche and artistic.
• I enjoyed watching it, it was very interesting to see someone else’s vision come to life and
work so beautifully. Its not the type of media that I, myself, would create, but I did enjoy
watching it and can now understand a few of the elements it takes to create an artistic
film.

• Shuttlecock was very cleverly made, it used gender and dramatics to convey humor. It
showed a typically masculine made versus a feminine man who was seen as a threat. This
can link to society views of men, as more feminine men are looked down on because they
are comfortable in their gender. The way the director used this made the comedy aspect
thrive, as it turned the main character go from the joker, to the joke. This was done subtly
throughout the film, so by the end of the video, he was laughed at.
• The director also used drama to convey the humor, but they didn’t over-do the dramatics,
making it still humorous, rather then ridiculous. The director clearly thought out every
aspect and managed to keep the comedy consistent throughout the entire video. They also
used music fantastically in the video, as it wasn’t too overpowering and added to the
dramatic aspect of the video.
• I really liked this video, it made me laugh and I like the aesthetics of the film, as it had a more
vintage feel in the sets, fashion and even the way it was filmed was very similar to films
created in the 80s. It was also a quiet video, there was one main focus, and it didn’t shift
from that focus. The length of the video was perfect as well, as it made the story work in the
time length and it wasn’t dragged out, which made the humor consistent.

• The music video and the song fit hand in hand with each other which can
be quite rare now-a-days. The song was very 90’s rock/ riot girl genre and
the music video reflected that pretty well. It was quite a loud music video,
with lots going on at once, which made it snappy and quick which matched
the fast-paced song.
• It reflected femininity throughout the whole video, which mirrored the
song lyrics. Natural aspects such as flowers and the elements were used
which reflected the idea of femininity of mother nature. Bright colours
were used and high saturations which reflected typical niche 90’s music
videos which would appeal to the artists performance, as they cater
towards an indie audience.
• I enjoyed both the song and visuals and would definitely recommend it to
people who enjoy rock music.

• This director used the current global pandemic and turned it into an
exaggerated version of it. It made the world look very dystopian but
they did it in a way that was scarily realistic and bleak. They did this
by using little to no colour, eerie music which added to the dark
atmosphere. It did scare me as it was spookily realistic, giving the
perspective of the world if things didn’t change.
• I didn’t enjoy watching it as it did make me think about the world and
the horrible pandemic and it gave a dystopian feel to the world. It was
very well made, however, and it was very eye-opening.
• I liked the style of animation, and I think it was a very powerful
storyline and message.

• This film explored the consumption of plastic and how it effects the world
around us. It was clever of the director to use children to say these facts, as
it would make the audience sympathize with children more then adults.
They used colour fantastically, as it made the video more eye-catching and
the use of opposite colours made the children stand out, making it more
dramatic. The director used dramatic music which built up slowly
throughout the video which added to the dramatic topic at hand, making
the audience think about the subject and how important it actually is.
• I really liked this video, it was short, snappy and full of useful information.
It was eye-opening and it tackled a world problem in a way that kept it
interesting and didn’t scare the viewers. The director did an amazing job of
conveying their message and I would definitely recommend this video on,
as it is very informative.

• This was a simple piece which explored a simple story. However, the
director did it in a way which captured both emotion and drama, whilst
keeping it realistic. The director had used perfect music to correlate with
the emotion on screen, this kept consistency of a good story telling through
the film. The story wasn’t made too dramatic or dragged out, the director
used different factors which kept this story alive. For example, they used
neutral colours with the odd occasion of bright against neutral to keep the
visuals as simple as the story. This was very effective as it gave the town in
which it was set, a particular feeling which was disrupted by odd colour
use.
• I really liked this film, it was a very realistic story and was conveyed
excellently by the actors. It was too dramatic to the point where it was
unenjoyable, they kept consistency which made this story come to life.

• I quite liked this film, as it took a serious subject like capital
punishment and create a comedy of it. It isn’t an unrealistic situation,
so it gives the situation a comedic look. The director uses quiet music
in the background to create tension and add to the comedic value of
the jokes.
• The director has taken the opposite view of capital punishment and
made it the majority. This flips the view and makes it funny to the
audience as it is a ridiculous idea. However, it is not too unrealistic
and could be quite frightening to the audience, as something like this
could happen.

• This director used the human body to convey emotion with the
combination of religion. The religious music in the background makes
the human form seem holy and divine. This gives the dance piece
more drama and creates an artistic feel to the video.
• The music chosen slowly builds up throughout the video which adds
more drama and an overwhelming feeling of emotion to the dance
piece.
• I liked this video as it was easy to watch and liked that the director
had thought of conveying emotion in a different way then the usual
acting.

• The director uses colour really well in this film, using opposites to
make the scenes stand out. They use a psychedelic 60s theme for the
whole video, which links in with the spectacular colour use. This
creates an exciting video for the audience to watch, as it changes
location often, using quick cuts.
• I enjoyed both the song and the video, as the concept for the video
was really interesting and very well executed. Although the lyrics
were in Spanish, I liked the song nonetheless as the beat matched
with the crazy video.

13. Masterclass 1
• This masterclass was very eye opening into the production world. It has showed that
diverse production companies bring in a diverse audience. They talked about how big
streaming companies like Netflix who create glossy, expensive production
documentaries effect public TV channels such as Channel 4. it makes them have to cater
on different platforms and to a wider audience in order to pull in a bigger audience.
• The guy who ran the talk also emphasized that there is more then just production and
that everything around production that is the important part. I can take this aspect and
factor it into any of my projects as it is flexible for any media platform. They also talked
about how engaging with new people makes for a more interesting product and how it
is really important to be able to sell your product (or have a person who can) in order
for it to be a success.
• Overall, I enjoyed this masterclass and thought it was very insightful into the media
world – granted that it is not the area I want to work in, but a lot of the information can
work with any media platforms. I learned a lot from this masterclass and will use this
information on my future projects.

• This masterclass was very insightful into women in film. Dame Judi Dench
talked about her experiences and how she managed to get to where she is
and how her theatre background effected her acting from the switch
between theatre and film. She also talked about what she looks for in a
role, whether it be a certain characteristic that a character holds or if there
is something in the script that catches her eye.
• This was very a very eye-opening talk. She talked about how she doesn’t
read reviews anymore because she can get two very different reviews on
the same work. She said that she stays loyal to what the director wants as
her job is to tell someone else’s story.
• I liked this masterclass very much, it was very informative and thought it
was really helpful to understand women in film.

15. University Showcase
• This showcase form the University of Lincoln was really interesting to watch. As someone who
wants to go to Lincoln University, but wasn’t able to go and look around the uni, having this
showcase helped me understand the quality of work that comes out of the university. it was
interesting as well to see work that the university probably wouldn’t put on their website, and
to be able to see all different genres of video, such as animation, documentary, drama etc.
• I enjoyed the short animations as the standard was so high and it looked almost professional.
The creator of this particular animation had clearly thought of every aspect that works
towards a successful animation. The choice of music used created the emotion of the
characters without having to use dialogue.
• The final documentary about parkour was extremely interesting to watch, as there were
beautiful shots of the town and shows places a person wouldn’t really have access to. There
was a combination of studio and location shots, which broke up the content, giving breaks in
the content, which kept the viewers attention.
• All-round, this was a very good showcase and it helped me understand the level of work this
uni produces and it helped me get an idea of the standard of work and teaching I can expect
to get at university.

• I was so impressed with this video. The director has created a video about
something that happens to women too often and created in a way that
spreads awareness. She showed the audience that sometimes people we
trust are the bad guys. She showed some thugs yelling at women and cut
away to the ‘main scene’ which showed them hurting Evie (the main
character), however we learn to find out that it is actually the person who
Evie trusts that hurts her. The director created this scene so beautifully,
using colour and music and the different cuts to show the story.
• To take a subject such as rape and create a story about it is a tough job on
its own, but the director has taken this subject and showed the reality of
the fact that it isn’t always who society sees as the ‘bad guys’ that are the
real villains. Although it was a hard watch, the director did a fantastic job of
conveying this story to the audience, spreading awareness of this cause.

• This was a very powerful video, concerning the murder of George
Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. This video
battled subjects such as race, capitalism, unjust, using footage of real
protests. The director used music to create power and sadness which
made the video eye-opening and real.
• This was extremely eye-opening and factual for all the viewers who
will watch it. It is so important that people watch and listen to these
videos in order to educate themselves about what is happening in the
world.
