Flame Heart By Langston Hughes Analysis
Selected Modernism literature passage is from Flame–Heart by Claude McKay, I, too, sing America,
by Langston Hughes "Sweat," by Zora Neale Hurston, and The Bean Eaters, by Gwendolyn Brooks.
These passages were written during the Harlem Renaissance period. Close reading gave me an
actual account on how Modernism authors of the Harlem Renaissance such as McKay, Hughes,
Hurston and Brooks put ideas on paper. Through the ability to perceive, be mindful, and images,
close reading gave me an actual account on how Harlem Renaissance authors put ideas on paper.
First of all is my impression to a Flame–Heart passage by Claude McKay.
My first impression of Claude McKay last passage, Flame–Heart is that the sonnet couplet has no
wild factor. Eventhough, the poet pays close attention to the sounds of the words, and certain kinds
of rhymes, his poem does not work as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, noticed in the passage, a dark skin helper is asked to eat somewhere else. The first and second
impressions do contradict each other. The passage creates a stressful mood living in a segregated
world for which the only desire is hope.
Then, a mindful passage, of Zora Neale Hurston "Sweat"
In addition, a point of view and characteristic passage from Zora Neale Hurston, How It Feels to Be
Colored Me
Sentences are the basic building block of the speaker. Each sentence needs a reason. Such as the
opening sentence shows, through activity behavior, white people differ from dark skin people. The
next sentence in order to establish a relationship through actions and reactions shows Hurston as a
child thinking how strange it was to be rewarded by the white people for something she enjoys
doing, such as "speak pieces" sing and dance the parse–me–la. Another sentence moves the action
step plot that is going to have some consequences forward, as illustrated, colored people do not
reward such childish

The Tempest Ariel Manipulation
Shakespeare's play The Tempest is filled with dramatic scenes of illusion and magic often times
influenced by music. This is made prevalent in one of the first encounters that Shakespeare writes of
Prospero's manipulation with music to control the character. In Act 1 scene ii Ariel was sent out by
the all–powerful and mighty Prospero to lure the character of Ferdinand onto the island. Ultimately
to have Prospero's daughter marry Ferdinand. Ariel being invisible sings, "Come unto these yellow
sands, and then take hands. Curtsied when you have, and kissed the wild waves whist. Foot it featly
here and there, and, sweet sprites, bear the burden. Hark, hark!" (CITE). Ferdinand responds to the
invisible music and singing he hears by saying, "With its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thence I have followed it, or it hath drawn me" (CITE). Also early on in the play, in Act 2 scene ii
the reader again sees the musical power of Ariel through the commands of Prospero. Ariel is unseen
to the characters but in the eyes of the characters, something mystical makes them fall asleep. The
only ones whom remain awake are Sebastian, and Antonio. They question why they did not get
tired. With the music Ariel puts the characters into a deep sleep in order to listen to the conspiracy
plans of the other two characters. Ariel wants to prevent the murder of Alonso and sings in the ear of
the sleeping Gonzalo, in order to wake him up. He sings, "While you were here do snoring lie,
open–eyed conspiracy his time doth take. If of life you keep a care, shake off slumber and beware.
Awake. Awake" (CITE). Ariel's message in this song is very direct and clear, in contrast to the first
song, in which Gonzalo suddenly awakes. In both of these scenes it is not so much the sound of the
music produced by Ariel that has control over the characters but more so over the words that are
spoken by him. In an article written by author, David

Julia Ward Howe's Song 'The Battle Hymn Of The Republic'
In the song "The Battle Hymn of The Republic" by Julia Ward Howe, is a bit longer than expected,
it has a great beat, words, and musical instrumentation throughout the whole song. Being drawn to
this piece of music by its title and having had family fight for our freedom, I chose to learn more
about this song. The introduction is an announcement of the "eyes" of the soldiers seeing enough of
war. With the wording of "God's truth is marching on" and the war coming to an end, shows soldiers
singing songs of praise for getting to come home and be with family. This gives a happy tone
throughout the song. The beat on the instruments goes high and low as the singers of the song sing
of God marching on to fight for freedom.
Historical context

Her mother died giving birth to a sibling and her father was a successful banker. Women's education
was limited at the time, but Julia took it upon herself to educate herself and some siblings. An older
brother that traveled the world would send books back to the family. Julia loved to read them,
expanding her knowledge and increasing her love of writing. She married Samuel Gridley Howe,
who was famous for his work on the Greek Revolution reform. Julia and her husband, Samuel, lived
in Massachusetts where her husband was a teacher. Julia would write letters to her sister when she
was first married and those letters showed Julia was depressed. Julia and Samuel separated leaving
two kids to stay with each parent. With a collection of poems Julia had written, she had them
published anonymously, but the author was figured out because the poems were so personally
descriptive. Becoming involved in reform movements, supported issues, women's rights, and
education, Julia developed friendship with intellectual elite, William Ellery Channing, Thomas
Wentworth Higginson, and Theodore Parker. Though her husband objected to her working, Julia
helped edit a newspaper for a short period and was able to secure her own interest of work. Being
fluent in seven languages and a scholar of philosophy helped Julia with her writings. The "Battle
Hymn of the Republic," was published in 1861 and made her and instant celebrity, and made her
one of the most famous women in the 19th century in America. Continuing to study on Women's
Suffrage kept Julia involved, and she became a preacher, a reformer, a writer, and a poet. After the
passing of her husband, Julia felt free and answered to no one but herself and God. She traveled the
world promoting Women's rights and Education Reforms. She also helped in creating Mother's Day,
a day were women could gather and discuss how to achieve world peace, and a mother's

Billie Holiday Research Paper
"I never hurt nobody but myself and that's nobody's business but my own." Billie Holiday, some call
her "queen of jazz", is an African American jazz female singer and songwriter who had tremendous
influence on jazz and pop culture. Billie Holiday had a tough youth as she grew up. Her father,
Clarence Holiday, abandoned her and her family to pursue his music dream when Holiday was still
a baby. In furtherance of take off some of the pressure for the family financially, Holiday started to
perform singing in different Harlem clubs in Brooklyn as she grew up. This little step officially
started Billie Holiday's music career. However, Blue music was "[defined] as inferior to other forms
of music" at that time, so Holiday did not get the recognition she deserved even after her death.

During her prison sentence, Louis shores up Holiday the whole time to give her love and support
during this tough time. Louis even proposes marriage to Holiday as to show his love for her.
Holiday agrees and hesitates to step away from the music industry at this point because of all the
racism issues. Nonetheless, her passion for music is too strong and she desires to perform on the
stage for her audience. In this case, she decides to have Louis as her manager to take care of her and
her music career. After Holiday finishes her prison sentence, she is determined to continue her
music career. Sadly, her privilege to perform in New York's night clubs is taken away from her
considering her felony conviction. However, a white boss still has faith on Holiday's music talent
under such dreadful situation. After a period of discussion, the boss decides to have Holiday to go in
a cross–country tour in contemplation of restoring her public confidence and forcing the department
to restore her privilege to perform in New York's night

Berger Family Encounters In Awake And Sing
The struggle the Berger family encounters in Awake and Sing is clearly evident by the setting
Clifford Odets sets up for his audience. Throughout the opening pages of the play, particularly in
this excerpt, the dialogue is chalk full with literary elements of mood, tone, and imagery. These
three elements each complement each other as they all provide the play with a dark, depressing, and
somber overtone. Not only does Odets provide the reader with textual and linguistic setting
elements, but the physical setting portrays a gloomy atmosphere as well. The play takes place in an
apartment in the Bronx, New York City during the Great Depression. Already, the time period of the
play, in addition to the apartment being in the poverty stricken neighborhood of the Bronx gives
context to how hard it is for the Berger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only thing in his way is the plummeting economy keeping him from a prosperous, successful,
and worry free life. These phrases, although said with hope, evoke emotion and put a sense of stress
on the reader as they learn that this family cannot live comfortably. Ralph takes off his rose colored
glasses and becomes less optimistic when he questions life by saying, "What's it for?" (Odets, 42).
The audience now sees a man struggling with his identity and purpose. Ralph's words set a strong,
dark, and continuous tone for the play that serves to encompass his entire family. Ralph continues to
focus on his working career and how he still cannot seem to provide the little things in life that he
desires. The reader is confronted with imagery that explains the reality of the Berger's situation
through the eyes of Ralph. The audience comes to realize that Ralph sleeps on a "day–bed in the
front room" (Odets, 42). Odets provides an image of a character who is questioning his place in life,
and who quite literally does not have his own personal space within his family

Carrie Clarkson Invincible Song Meaning
Thank you for purchasing My Comp I album. The following songs contain special meaning, so I
was able to relate each of them to an essay I wrote during my Comp I class. Music has always been
a passion of mine, so relating my essays to a few of my favorite songs seemed like the obvious
choice. These various songs mesh together and form my Comp I album. So put the cd in, and let's

song which can be related to the My Passion essay. Music is my biggest passion. After learning to

Throughout this song, Perry sings about the process she had to go through once she realized her
marriage was failing. In the beginning of the song Perry sings, "I was in the dark, I was falling hard
with an open heart. How did I read the stars so wrong". As the song plays on she starts to say, "Now
it's clear to me. That everything you see ain't always what it seems. I was dreaming for so long".
Even later she starts to sing about her realization, and the process it took to get her there. I decided
to compare this song to the Process Analysis paper because they both discuss going through some
process. My paper was about the process of creating a successful speech by keeping calm,
memorizing, and adding emotion. Even though these processes are completely different, they still

I grew up in a Christian home, with both my parents fully devoted to their faith. They would take
me to church every Sunday and I would learn so much about this person named God. They also took
me to Sparks, Cubbies, Awanas, TNT and eventually youth group. So I grew up knowing so much
about God and memorizing scripture through the Awana programs. Also I remember every other
morning waking up early in the morning, before my dad had to go to work, to my dad singing out so
loud, "Devotions, Devotions!" and we would learn about something new that morning, give or take
if I was actually awake to learn. A thing that was cool that I really liked about those devotions was
when my dad would tell us verses to remember he would sing them to us so that

Fetty Ozborn Once upon a time there was a kid name Fetty, Fetty Osborn he was the son of Merlin

The Slippery Snow On The Cold Ice Pack
Today was supposed to be like every other Sunday. No matter what the weather gave us, we got up
bright–and–early to go to church, and after we went to lunch at OUR FAMILY 'S DINER. As we
were leaving lunch and heading back into town, we had our music blaring to pop hits as usual. My
little sister and I love to dance in the car while my parents sing a duet, but today we got carried
away. My father was paying more attention to hitting the high note than the flashing railroad lights
ahead. By the time my father touched the brakes, we were far too close to the tracks. The slippery
snow on the ground did not help his attempt to stop before the tracks. Then everything went black.
When I woke up I could feel the cold ice pack against my left temple. Within seconds of my eyes
being opened, nurses came running in to check my monitors. Pain radiated throughout my body. My
right wrist and right leg were covered under a cast, and I had a neck brace around my neck. A thin,
blonde nurse in a blue scrub asked, "Good morning, Dear. It's nice to see you 're finally awake. How
do you feel? Do you remember anything?" "No, what happened? How long have I been asleep for?
Where's my mom?" I asked impatiently, almost jumping out of my bed. "Settle down, Mallory. You
were in a horrific train–car crash on Sunday, two days ago. Your parents, Lilly, and you were in the
car. You broke your wrist and fractured your femur. I would like you to wait a couple minutes and

Maxine Greene On Education
"Who am I?" is the question Maxine Greene asked, as she looked around the room, before she
answered herself: "I am who I am not yet." This bold statement sums up Maxine Greene's
philosophical concept of education that stems from her self– proclaimed ideas of existentialism. In
this article, Greene discusses how combining curriculum and consciousness in education can evolve
into continuous growth and rediscovery for us as educators.
Education at its best is a process of teaching people to explore ideas about themselves and the world
in which they live, to ask questions about the experience called "living" and to embrace ambiguity,
to notice the unusual without fear and to look upon the ordinary with new eyes.
The process of education that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It allowed me as a learner to transform and grow into a new world. I was able to take what I thought
I knew and turn it into something new for me, I was transforming. As Greene might suggest, "from a
newcomer to learner (Greene,1997)."
Knowing and respecting how I was becoming, I knew that my curriculum in my classroom would
have to be student–centered in order for what it needed to be to be meaningful to me as a teacher. It
is with all these connections – and a wealth of questioning, storytelling, and searching – that
changes are made into greater beings. Greene talks about living wide–awake, and that has to start by
teaching, learning, and modeling wide–awakeness.
Maxine Greene celebrates questioning, imagining, and evolving continuously as a teacher and
student. Education is making sense of the world and how to work towards a transformation of it
with new perceptions. Learning is a celebration of knowledge and how to move beyond where we
have been "Without the ability to think about yourself, to reflect on your life, there is really no
awareness, no consciousness. Consciousness doesn't come automatically; it comes through being
alive, awake, curious, and often furious" (Greene,

Obligatory To Polish Tradition Analysis
First, I am not a morning person. I never have been and I never will be. Second, I do not like

Obligatory to Polish tradition, my family and I dress up in our krakowiaki, or traditional Polish folk
costumes, every Easter morning for five o'clock mass at church. Along with a dozen other families,
we walk around the church, throw flower petals, and sing hymns to celebrate Jesus Christ rising

Tyler Joseph's Song 'Ode To Sleep'
At first, Ode to Sleep, a song by the band Twenty One Pilots, seems to illustrate the relationship
between being asleep and being awake. However, the song has much more meaning to it. In fact, it
discusses depression and the horrible thoughts that can go through someone's mind at night.
Moreover, in this song, night and day have special meaning. Tyler Joseph, the writer of the song and
lead singer of the band, uses lyrics and different types of instruments, such as the synthesizer and
strings, to portray the meanings behind the signs in this song. Additionally, the song cycles between
dark and light parts, each with its own meaning. This paper will not only discuss the lyrical meaning
of this song, but it will also discuss the instrumental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Why am I not scared in the morning? I don't hear those voices calling" (Joseph, Ode to Sleep). This
suggests that the light sounding music and the dark sounding music are in fact symbols for day and
night, which are also symbols for sanity and insanity. When Joseph is awake in the morning, he
doesn't have dark thoughts and is sane, but at night, Joseph is insane and hears demonic voices. In
addition, the voices are icons that represent evil and darkness. Later in the first lighter part, Joseph
sings "Why wont you let me go, Do I threaten all your plans, I'm insignificant. You have no plans
for me, I will set my soul on fire, what have I become, I'm sorry" (Joseph, Ode to Sleep). Joseph
believes that he is fighting darkness with his harpoon, but he doesn't want to because by doing so,
he is going insane. Moreover, when Joseph sings "I will set my soul on fire", he sounds like he is
struggling to take a breath, as if he was fighting to live (Joseph, Ode to Sleep). Furthermore, setting
one's soul on fire is often seen as a symbol for self–cleansing or forgiveness. Therefore, Tyler wants
to be forgiven and wants to be done with the

The Beauty Of Art Essay
People have appreciated numerous forms of art over many decades and continue to analyze what art
is and how the aesthetics of it affect viewers. Audiences have gathered to "ooh" and "ahh" at art
galleries, musicals, play and ballet performances, and concerts. In fact people even travel long
distances to view world–renowned tourist sites, such as the Sistine Chapel. There are billions of
creations and events that are considered art whether that art is valued by a large audience or the
artist alone. Either way, art has become a tremendously significant method of entertainment in the
world today, even if one does not recognize the entertainment as art. My own definition of art is:

The beauty of art varies among individuals, but either way, it is a beautiful thing. Art is meant to
portray a multitude of emotions through words or images and those emotions strongly affect most
people. For example, Joseph M. Martin's song entitled "The Awakening" features a four–part
harmony with lyrics that portray a dream (a nightmare rather) where the world lacks music.
Lyrics:
"I dreamed a dream, a silent dream, of a land not far away
Where no bird sang, no steeples rang, and teardrops fell like rain.
I dreamed a dream; a silent dream.
I dreamed a dream of a land so filled with pride
That every song, both weak and strong, withered and died.
I dreamed a dream
No hallelujah; not one hosanna!
No song of love, no lullaby.
And no choir sang to change the world.
No pipers played, no dancers twirled.
I dreamed a dream; a silent dream.
Awake, awake!
Awake, Awake!
Awake my soul and sing, the time for praise has come.
The silence of the night has passed,
A new day has begun!
Let music never die in me;
Forever let my spirit sing!
Wherever emptiness is found let there be joy and glorious sound.
Let music never die in me; forever let my spirit sing!
Let all our voices join as one to praise the giver of the sun!
Awake, awake!
Let music live!"

The world will crumble because of the illuminati. It may be dramatic, but the Illuminati attack

does not mean she broke up with her husband right? She wants you to think in that naïve approach.
The album titled "Katy Perry: Part of Me" clearly symbolizes her songs have significance to her.
Why would Katy Perry want the public to believe her husband gave significance to the song if she
gotten over him a while ago? According to Drfunkenberry.com (2013), the answer to that question
resides in hiding the notion of how she went forth with "the Illuminati" and broke free from this
conspiracy hold.
Synopsis and Meaning of the Music Video
The music video begins with Katy Perry finishing her other hit video "California Gurls," and she
happily but discouragingly went to her dressing room. In the scene, it is noticeable that fame comes
easy to her. To make clear, the fame of what "the Illuminati" brought her became second nature. To
illustrate, Katy Perry asked a worker that leads her to the room "Do you think this is going to be a
hit?" the worker responds "For sure", and she states, "Yeah, I have that feeling." What feeling does
Katy Perry feel: a hunch? She obviously knows something that nobody else knows. To explain, Katy
Perry knows success will come to her because of the commitment she made with "the Illuminati".

Marscoo Beach: A Short Story
As I stepped into the house from the cold winter day, I noticed a shaking, seemingly horrified Aunt
Kit sitting at the table before my mother. She was loudly crying and muttering muffled sounds. The
only words I could make out were, "Room 101, don't go!" When mother noticed my presence, she

"Is Aunt Kit okay?" I ask.
"Tiffany, bed. Now!" She angrily says.
I obey my mother, and start to my bedroom, but soon stop after turning the corner. I seriously want
to know what's up. I pretend to walk to my bedroom, walking in place for a bit. I then slide against

and before I know it, we're on our way to Marscato Beach. I look out the window to reveal the deep

We arrive at a very small motel that reminds me of a log house. Kit goes inside to book us a room

forcing me to either hold my breath, or gag. I do a bit of both. Before I can step out of the elevator,

Sister Act Sparknotes
The Academy showcases their annual musical. The Sister Act begins with the protagonist, Deloris,
who has ambitions of becoming the next big thing. Her life turns upside down when she catches her
significant other murdering one of his employees. In order to secure safety, the police hide her in a
convent. There, we meet the other sisters including Mother Superior who despises Deloris.
However, Deloris saved the church by reconstructing their choir. As for the murderous husband, he
was caught by the police when attending one of the mass ceremonies. The protagonist is Deloris Van
Cartier who initially wanted to pursue a singing career. Sister Mary Robert was the youngest out of
the others. She is a shy and innocent character who metamorphoses into a bold and confident sister.
Unlike Sister Mary Robert, Sister Mary Patrick is always an outgoing and spontaneous character.
Mother Superior acts as an antagonist for most of the performance. Lt. Eddie Souther is the
policeman who helps Deloris and captures the primary antagonist who is Vince LaRocca. ... Show

aspects of the play are the singings and the ability that every main character could hit the notes. I do

Over the past ten years, Circa Survive has held the torch for the post–hardcore realm. They've
toured with Thrice, Coheed and Cambria, Saves the Day, Dredg, Minus the Bear, and The Used, to
name a few. They've outlasted bands in their realm, such as Thursday, The Receiving End of Sirens,
Fear Before (the March of Flames), Dear and the Headlights, and My Chemical Romance. And
they've even given voice to lesser–known artists with opening acts like Good Old War, Foxy
Shazam, Touché Amoré, Balance and Composure, Now, Now, O'Brother, and Portugal. The Man.
Circa Survive is also frontman Anthony Green's longest lasting group. For a man that appears to be
everywhere, from The Sound of Animals Fighting, to Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer, to his solo
projects, and to wherever Saosin is at these days, it's the one project of his that has remained stable.
For all five founding members of Circa Survive to remain in the band for an entire decade is quite
an admirable task that truly shows their unity and dedication to making music together. It's a feat
that very few bands can say they've done. Earlier this year, they released a 7–inch vinyl record ...

To Kill A Mocking Bird Short Story
You took in a sharp breath, your (e/c) eyes snapping open. The images of the nightmare you had
were still fresh in your mind; images of giants and collapsing buildings and blood. So much blood...
The sound you had heard still drifted to your ears. You drew another sharp breath. The baby! You
quickly glanced at your partner. To your relief, he was still asleep. As carefully and quietly as you
could, you sat up and got out of bed. You tiptoed across the floor boards, making sure to avoid the

Personal Narrative: How Religion Changed My Life
Ever since I was a little girl, my family always pushed Christianity. We would all go to church every
Sunday and every big holiday, like Easter or Christmas. All of the grandchildren, including me, had
to be in the holiday plays, where we would sing and dance for the whole church. We also were all in
the choir, we had practice every Saturday, so that we could sing that Sunday. During the service,
when I was younger, I would fall asleep to the preacher preaching. Once I turned 9, I couldn't do
that anymore. It was seen as disrespectful because I was old enough to stay awake during church. I
always struggled to stay awake while the preacher preached. As my cousins and I grew older, we
started going to church less and less, while the adults still pushed the idea. ... Show more content on

It was finally our decision, though we did have this unspoken rule. If one cousin wasn't planning to
go, all of us weren't going to go because we all wanted to be together. On Sundays were when all of
the cousins went back home, so we would all sleep in, eat breakfast late, made by the oldest cousins,
and then the youngest cousins washing the dishes, and everyone that hasn't cleaned or cooked yet
would clean up the blanket and pillows and put them away. Now, being 15, almost 16, I only go to
church for the holidays. I go to my closet that day and try to find the nicest dress that I had, which I
got 2 years ago; I don't have a lot of dresses because they're uncomfortable. My mom, sister, and I
would meet my grandmother and cousins at church. We would sit in church from 8 – 11am listening
to the preacher preach about what the holiday of that time was and how it involved either Jesus or
God. After his preaching, children and adults would perform ritual dances with holy music in the
background and the dance always had something to do with the holiday. Being the age I am and
being able to decide what I believe in helps me through life and find who I am. I am

Escapism And Suicide Research Paper
Society, as a whole, has become exceedingly fast paced. A fast paced society has come to be the
origin of a stressed–filled environment that is prompted by anxiety and depression. In response,
individuals have become escapist in order to find an outlet to achieve mental and emotional stability
(Mental Help). There are multiple methods of escapism that range from healthy to unhealthy. Such
as listening to music, excessive sleeping, and committing suicide. Bella Pollen wrote, "you don't
need to know what you're escaping from to become a fugitive" (GoodReads). All individuals are
subjected to escapism as a way to flee daily routine and boredom.
There are a handful of escape tactics that individual take to escape the present situation they are in.

A form of escapism that many individuals partake in is the permanent decision to end one's life in
order to escape their misfortune. The purpose of committing suicide is to seek for a solution, to
those individuals suicide is the only answer to an otherwise unsolvable problem (Survivors of
Suicide). By ending their lives these individuals hope to escape the burden of responsibilities while
leaving behind the anguish of what they can not change. Studies show that those who seek for a
permanent solution like suicide often suffer from depression after they have repressed their
emotions for long periods of time. Suicide has become the third leading cause of death amongst
young individuals. Suicide methods may differ depending on the gender. Woman are commonly
prone to overdose on pills or cutting themselves. While men choose methods that are lethal, such as
using a weapon, jumping from buildings, or hanging themselves (Teen Suicide). These individuals
that feel the need to take their lives are often depressed and feel hopeless. Their psychological pain
is too much of a burden to carry around and suicide becomes the only way to escape from it

The Theme Of Round About By Ogden Nash
"Round About" Ogden Nash's poem, "Round About," expresses a clear theme of time. Humans
value every year, month, week, day, hour, minute, and second of time. Although humans existence is
just a spec in time, time is everlasting. It goes on forever. In that huge amount of time, humans only
exist in the smallest portion of it. Specifically, Ogden Nash uses plenty of repetition throughout the
poem. For example, "round about" (Nash 7), "around" (11), and "again" (20). Ogden Nash includes
this repetition to convey that time repeats itself. Never ending time keeps occurring. Each and every
day is just like the day before. Each morning one wakes up, once again. By repeating words that
have to do with the repetition of time, it gets in the reader´s head that time repeats itself. Nash also
uses rhyme to convey the theme of time. Some examples are, "Past" (3), "vast" (4), "ring around"
(11), "swing around" (12), "astounded" (37), and "merry–go–rounded" (38). By using these rhymes,
Nash is hinting towards time going around and around. He is comparing time to objects that have a
circular motion, that showing time is going in a continuous circle. For example, merry–go–rounds
are fun rides that go around in a circle. Time is being compared to a joyful ride that goes in a
circular motion, and only in that motion. The ride does the same thing each and every time. Along
with time. Humans wake up each morning ready to follow the same schedule as the day before.
However, it can be a fun ride

Music Is An Art That The Tones
Assignment "Music is an art that the tones have been arranged accordingly sequence, and produce a
unified and continuous composition (Webster 's II New Riverside University Dictionary, 1984)."
Music does not have any fixed form but it has different meaning for different people. I think that
music is a sound that is filled with a person's emotions, feelings, and thoughts; meanwhile it can
also affect a person feelings and thought. I like brisk and lively songs that make me feel happy and
relax, instead of heavy sad song or strong rhythm hit song because I can easily be emotional.
Among all other songs, "Wide Awake" sung by an American singer named Katy Perry is a
meaningful song for me. I still remember the first time I listened to this song was in the evening,
and I had just went back from school and was having a rest in the living room while watching Astro
Hitz with my sister. This song showed up in the television and I cannot move my eyes away from
Katy Perry's music video. It was so touching and powerful for me, I can feel the beat, bass, pitch,
and the lyrics that played around my head. It is an amazing song that I had ever heard and it touched
my heart. I always wanted to live in a world that has no war, no natural disaster, no pollution, and
everyone is so kind and nice. Yet, it was just a dream for me because the reality shown us that
everything in this world may not always be wonderful. Sometimes, I feel like escaping myself from

The Speaker's Role in Three Poems by Howard, Wyatt, and Raleigh
The speakers in "Farewell, False Love," by Sir Walter Raleigh and "My Lute, Awake!" by Sir
Thomas Wyatt the Elder have similar motivations, although the poems have differing constructs.
Each speaker seeks to unleash his venomous emotions at a woman who has scorned him, by
humiliating her through complicated revenge fantasies and savage metaphors. Through this
invective, he hopes to convince us of this woman's inward ugliness. Raleigh catalogues a long list of
conceits for his false love: she is every horrid thing from a "siren song" to "an idle boy that sleeps in
pleasure's lap".
The overtone of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey's "Alas! So All Things Now Do Hold Their ... Show

The eloquent "My Lute, Awake!" is ostensibly addressed to the speaker's lute and to his lover, but
the story that he tells of her cruel rejection, and his predictions of her eventual lonely decrepitude,
are clearly meant for our ears, and he is notably aware that we are listening. Although he refers to
his lover as "thee," he acknowledges early on that she cannot or will not hear him: "As to be heard
where ear is none, / As lead to grave in marble stone / My song may pierce her heart as soon." In
"Farewell, False Love," Raleigh does not use the second person, and his motive is obviously to
characterize his faithless love before his public. His metaphors are as creative as they are damning,
and the verse itself is highly structured: the first stanza deals with his lover's dishonesty, the second
with her appearance of sweetness which masks sin ("A poisoned serpent covered all with flowers. . .
A gilded hook that holds a poisoned bait"), and so forth. This is no spontaneous outpouring of
emotion: it's more like a finely tuned, premeditated character assassination.
Raleigh and Wyatt both proclaim stoicism in the face of rejection, contending that they no longer
care for their lovers after having been betrayed and rebuffed. Raleigh concludes his poem with
"Dead is the root whence all these fancies grew." Wyatt asks his lute, "Should we then sing or sigh
or moan? No, no, my lute for I have done." "Care then

Love Between a Parent and Child in After Making Love We...
Love Between a Parent and Child in After Making Love We Hear Footsteps There are several
different definitions for the word love. Love is a simple four–letter word, with a multitude of caring
and feeling behind it. There is a difference between loving somebody and being in love with
somebody. The love between two best friends or between a husband and wife are the types of love
that people want to last forever. However, there are no guarantees that it will last forever.
Furthermore, the love between family members and the love between a parent and child is the kind
of love that will last a life time. In Galway Kinnell's poem "After Making Love We Hear Footsteps"
Kinnell writes about the love between a parent and child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The feeling of security that the parents give by being there helps the young boy sleep at night. For
example, Galway Kinnell writes: and says, "Are you loving and snuggling? May I join?" he flops
down between us and hugs us and snuggles himself to sleep, his face gleaming with satisfaction at
being this very child. The parents understanding of knowing that the child needs security is just one
the many responsibilities they have for being a parent. Furthermore, the parents feel that even
though the situation there in is very frustrating, they would not give it up for anything. The love for
their child will never go away. Kinnell expresses this feeling of love on the last couple of lines of
the poem: This one whom habit of memory propels to the ground of his making, sleeper only the
mortal sounds can sing awake, this blessing love gives again into our arms. The love between a
parent and child is unconditional. It comes straight from the heart. The bond between a parent and
child is something that only a parent can really understand. It starts before the child is born and will
last a life time. Parents want to protect their child from any kind of harm. From the day the child is
born, the mother and father will be the one that the child will depend on. The parents will be the one
the child relies on whenever the child gets hurt, needs help, needs a shoulder to cry on,

The Ramayana Of Valmiki And Sita Sings The Blues
The Ramayana of Valmiki and Sita Sings the Blues
The epic story of Rama and Sita, as portrayed by Valmiki's Ramayana and the modern day film Sita
sings the Blues are two different versions of the same story which contain several contrasts as well
as similarities. The Ramayana is the ancient version which was written by a sage named Valmiki in
550 B.C.E, featuring a love story between an ideal prince and an ideal woman. It outlines the
adventures of Rama in his journey to find his abducted wife Sita. Rama is portrayed as an avatar,
being the eighth incarnation of one of the Hindu gods Vishnu, while Sita is representing Lakshmi,
the Hindu goddess of light. The modern day version of the Ramayana is seen in Sita Sings the
Blues, where the animator Nina Paley is relating her love story to that of Sita's predicament. This
paper will compare and contrast the epic story of Valmiki's Ramayana and Sita Sings the Blues in
the quest for power, honor, faithfulness and the conflict between good and evil.
The author Valmiki in Ramayana discussed in detail human relationships, such as those between
husband and wife, parents and children, siblings, rulers, and the ruled as shown in the story. It is
often referred to as a holy text as well as a guide to social practices and attitudes. Nina, the animator
of the film, Sita Sings the Blues, was seen reading the Ramayana constantly because it provided
some sort of comfort to her. In the Ramayana, paragraph one, it says "It is a heroic epic about

What Does It Mean To Say About Jesus 24: 42
One saying of Jesus that I have always liked is Matthew 24:42. In this Jesus says, "Therefore, stay
awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of
the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake
and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of
Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." This passage proceeds Jesus trial and persecution.
Here he is just speaking to his disciples and telling them to no believe in false prophets and to stay
on the path and continue to follow what Jesus has taught them.
Because Jesus originally just told this to his disciples they would have interpreted this as ... Show

For me it means that God finds people in the strangest moments. Even when we expect Him, He
comes because he knows that we need His help. I also interpret this as we do not know when Jesus
is returning so we always need to be prepared for the final judgment. This means that we always
want to live as God wants us to because it will not only make us happier, but also allows us to be
prepared for His final judgment so that we can enter into heaven. I also see this as Jesus saying that
you should live life to the fullest. He is saying that it is just not that coming of God that we are
unsure of, but also the future that we are unsure of. This verse especially resonates with me because
in lower school we would always sing the song "stay awake, be ready, you do not know the hour
that the Lord is coming, stay awake, be ready, the Lord is coming soon." That is the main reason I
chose this saying of Jesus, because it reminded me of happy childhood memories. Today I believe
people would interpret these words as Jesus' return to Earth. Some people could also interpret this as
the Lord is coming and the world is going to end because it will be everyone's final

Wakefulness: Thoreau, Whitman, and Emerson
"To be awake means to be alive", and to be awake during the time of Romanticism meant one could
witness literature as an intellectual achievement. Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and
Walt Whitman were three authors during this time that wrote about an idea that would later become
the theme of many papers, discussions and lectures, Wakefulness. Though some may not have
recognized the significance of these authors' work at the time, their ideas and beliefs have captivated
the minds of many people. Wakefulness, the idea of intellectual exertion throughout everyday life is
essential to becoming self–reliant, creating a more intellectual and better community, and becoming
closer to god. Being self–reliant is brought up in many of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, it has enough support to be considered its own aspect of Wakefulness. Thoreau had much
to say about society that he wrote an essay entitled, Civil Disobedience, in which he says, "I think
that we should be men first, and subjects afterward. It is not so desirable to cultivate a respect for
the law, so much as for the right" (Thoreau, Civil Disobedience). Here Thoreau is saying, as a
society many should think for themselves first, and then answer to the government or an
authoritative figure after. He also says is hard to appreciate the law compared to what is actually
right. He is right to an extent, although government is very important to this country. If more people
thought for themselves instead of being subdued by the government, then the US would have a
much more intellectual society that would give more freedom to the people. This allows Thoreau to
become awake because he believes the world needs to live this way in order to be great. Emerson
believes that creating a better society will stem from self–reliance as he writes in his essay; "Society
is a joint–stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each
shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater. The virtue in most request is
conformity. Self–reliance is its aversion. It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs"
(Emerson, Self–Reliance). Emerson means that society may seem

economy and most important the value of a family. By analyzing the main characters, Ralph and

they eventually realize that with family they can survive through poverty.
Both characters are being weighed down by poverty. This brings them to dream of the life they

Ralph has the option to take the money and go with his girl, but realizes he "don't want life printed

From the pen of esteemed playwright, Clifford Odets, comes the drama, "Awake and Sing", a play
often credited as one of the foundational pieces of American family drama. Despite being published
in 1935, nearly a century ago, Odets' characters in this classic piece still resonate with readers today.
These characters, a Jewish family struggling to make ends meet in the midst of the Great
Depression, can be identified today in numerous American family dramas, as well as in the real
world. Although Odets' characters frequently find themselves at ends with each other, Jacob, the

Jacob symbolizes hope for humanity, as he is educated, and carries strong, idealistic opinions about
the world he lives in. Despite being the eldest member of the household, Jacob is treated as though
he is as juvenile as Ralph and Hennie. As the other family members berate him and invalidate his
wisdom, Jacob asserts that "[he's] studying from books a whole lifetime" (Odets 74). Through
compassionate dialogue and educated political beliefs, Jacob reveals his humble optimism and hope
that Ralph will be able to pursue a much richer life than that of his current situation. His knowledge
of current events and cognizance of the world around him makes him an advocate for political
literacy, especially for the younger generation. This idea ties into his symbolism as hope for
humanity, and translates into modern times, as young adults growing up in today's tense political
climate feel pressure to educate themselves on the issues, in order to make informed choices. Jacob's
advocacy for what he believes in also serves as a strong reminder of society's hopes that children
will grow up having learned how to stand up for themselves.
By passing on his wisdom to Ralph, and encouraging him to create a better life for himself, Jacob
symbolizes hope for humanity. Throughout the course of the play, he finds himself reminiscing
about his younger days, as he says, "give me back my young days..." (Odets 74), and in turn

Police arrived at my doorstep just the early one rainy morning.
"Catherine, I am sorry to have to inform you of this, but your sister is dead." The air was crisp and

As I sat alone in my bedroom listened to the rains pitter patter on my roof I thought about my

like every other girl, my sister dreamed of her prince to one day find her, and sweep her off to a

all giddy... she had met a boy. A boy named George and he offered to love her for the rest of his life.
He made her a million promises, like that he would take care of her and one day buy her whatever
she wanted. That's all it took for Myrtle she was gone, out of the house and on to what she thought
was a better life. She was happy and nothing would stop her but she always kept an eye open to
bring her life to the next level. One look at a man in the gas station with his perfectly prestin suit is
all it took for Myrtle to turn her attention to a new

The Importance Of Fairytales
Fairytales are the reality to children. As children imagine different scenarios and play them out, they
are learning how to cope with the real world. This is a powerful tool for allowing children to
understand complex situations that they have not encountered in their own lives. In My
Grandmother Asked Me To to Tell You She's Sorry, Backman uses fairy tales for Elsa to understand
the people in her building that Granny had saved. These stories, Elsa soon learns, have a greater
significance and interconnectedness than she had imagined. One of the first stories that Elsa
remembers Granny telling her is the story of the girl who said no. The story begins with a fair
princess who grew into a Queen, afraid of conflict. She began to ban ... Show more content on

She wants Elsa to be outspoken and empowered as she was. This is important to Granny because
she does not want Elsa to be as cautious as Ulrika ended up being. Another key story in Backman's
novel is the story of the sea angel. This story starts with the snow angels of the Land–of–Almost–
Awake as they are fighting against the waves in the War–Without–End. Snow angels were known to
be able to open their wings and use the power of the stories in their hearts to stop the waves that
would come to destroy the kingdom. Once the war ended, the last snow angel was cursed and
unable to leave the coast. It was soon called the "sea–angel." It became increasingly sad as the years
went on until its heart split into two and then its whole body split into two. Now the creature was so
deformed it became known as a monster that children feared. It sings its song of sorrow for all to
hear as it lives out its life of misery. The deeper origin to this story that Elsa is initially unaware of,
but soon comes to realize is the story of the woman in the black skirt. The woman is known to Elsa
as the drunk who sings on the stairs in the building. The woman lost her husband and sons in a
tsunami. Granny rescued her and brought her to the building in hopes that she would recover from
the horrific event, but she would not talk about it. The woman told Elsa, "It's difficult for me to talk
about my family. Your grandmother tried to make

Religion's Role In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh has many events in it that reflect the values and culture of acient
mesopotamian life. the people of mesopotamia valued the gods and the relationship between mortals
and imortals, the value of life and living to the fullest, And the value of firendship and love. the gods
role in the Epic of Gilgamesh is very large through out the epic they are seen as a helpful and
guiding force. one example of the gods lending a hand is when gilgamesh and enkidu go to the
cedar forest to fight the demon humbaba. they call on the great god shamash to assist them in
entering the cedar forest, slaying humbaba, and cutting down the cedar trees to bring back to the
great walled city of uruk. before they set out on their journey they called to shamash with the
offering of two young goats, shamash looks down upon Gilgamesh's humble face and agrees to help
them. Mesopotamian culture worshiped many gods for many different things. before they did

In the epic Gilgamesh struggles with mortality and being remebered for the things he has done. the
people of mesopotamia did not put great value in to the after life. They did not view physical death
as the end of life. in the Epic, Gilgamesh tries to find eternal life by traveling to find Utanapishtim
the survior of the great flood. Utanapishtim challenges Gilgamesh to stay awake for seven days
gilgamesh fails this task, utanapishtim then gives gilgamesh a magic plant which he loses before he
can ever eat it. gilgamesh realizes that imortal life was not his to gain, however the alewife Siduri
gives him some advice "accept your fate, each day, wash your head, bathe your body, and wear
clothing that are sparking fresh. Fill your stomach with delicious food, play, sing, dance, and be
happy both day and night." mesopotamian culture believed life was worth living, and worth living

Quink: The Four Dutch Singing Concerts
Quink, a vocal ensemble, is an a cappella group from the Netherlands. The four Dutch speaking
performers consist of two women, one soprano and the other mezzo–soprano, and two highly
experienced men. Quink performed many pieces from numerous cultures, one of those cultures
included their own. The performance was delightful and moving. To start, while their concert was
amazing, it also had its faults. One of those faults included the songs. I understand that some of the
songs were in languages other than English; however, the songs that were in English were very
difficult for me to understand what they were saying. I did not like that because I do not think that
there is a point in singing lyrics if they are not understandable, especially

Flame Heart By Langston Hughes Analysis

  • 1. Flame Heart By Langston Hughes Analysis Selected Modernism literature passage is from Flame–Heart by Claude McKay, I, too, sing America, by Langston Hughes "Sweat," by Zora Neale Hurston, and The Bean Eaters, by Gwendolyn Brooks. These passages were written during the Harlem Renaissance period. Close reading gave me an actual account on how Modernism authors of the Harlem Renaissance such as McKay, Hughes, Hurston and Brooks put ideas on paper. Through the ability to perceive, be mindful, and images, close reading gave me an actual account on how Harlem Renaissance authors put ideas on paper. First of all is my impression to a Flame–Heart passage by Claude McKay. My first impression of Claude McKay last passage, Flame–Heart is that the sonnet couplet has no wild factor. Eventhough, the poet pays close attention to the sounds of the words, and certain kinds of rhymes, his poem does not work as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, noticed in the passage, a dark skin helper is asked to eat somewhere else. The first and second impressions do contradict each other. The passage creates a stressful mood living in a segregated world for which the only desire is hope. Then, a mindful passage, of Zora Neale Hurston "Sweat" In addition, a point of view and characteristic passage from Zora Neale Hurston, How It Feels to Be Colored Me Sentences are the basic building block of the speaker. Each sentence needs a reason. Such as the opening sentence shows, through activity behavior, white people differ from dark skin people. The next sentence in order to establish a relationship through actions and reactions shows Hurston as a child thinking how strange it was to be rewarded by the white people for something she enjoys doing, such as "speak pieces" sing and dance the parse–me–la. Another sentence moves the action step plot that is going to have some consequences forward, as illustrated, colored people do not reward such childish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Tempest Ariel Manipulation Shakespeare's play The Tempest is filled with dramatic scenes of illusion and magic often times influenced by music. This is made prevalent in one of the first encounters that Shakespeare writes of Prospero's manipulation with music to control the character. In Act 1 scene ii Ariel was sent out by the all–powerful and mighty Prospero to lure the character of Ferdinand onto the island. Ultimately to have Prospero's daughter marry Ferdinand. Ariel being invisible sings, "Come unto these yellow sands, and then take hands. Curtsied when you have, and kissed the wild waves whist. Foot it featly here and there, and, sweet sprites, bear the burden. Hark, hark!" (CITE). Ferdinand responds to the invisible music and singing he hears by saying, "With its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thence I have followed it, or it hath drawn me" (CITE). Also early on in the play, in Act 2 scene ii the reader again sees the musical power of Ariel through the commands of Prospero. Ariel is unseen to the characters but in the eyes of the characters, something mystical makes them fall asleep. The only ones whom remain awake are Sebastian, and Antonio. They question why they did not get tired. With the music Ariel puts the characters into a deep sleep in order to listen to the conspiracy plans of the other two characters. Ariel wants to prevent the murder of Alonso and sings in the ear of the sleeping Gonzalo, in order to wake him up. He sings, "While you were here do snoring lie, open–eyed conspiracy his time doth take. If of life you keep a care, shake off slumber and beware. Awake. Awake" (CITE). Ariel's message in this song is very direct and clear, in contrast to the first song, in which Gonzalo suddenly awakes. In both of these scenes it is not so much the sound of the music produced by Ariel that has control over the characters but more so over the words that are spoken by him. In an article written by author, David ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Persuasive Speech MIDDLE OF NOWHERE Middle of nowhere, 800 miles into Northern Canada, that's where I call you from Set out last year, for 18 long months I planned it all, gonna live my biggest dream Live off of the land, at one with nature, but I'm struggling, got the strangest feeling What was I really thinking? • 4. Julia Ward Howe's Song 'The Battle Hymn Of The Republic' In the song "The Battle Hymn of The Republic" by Julia Ward Howe, is a bit longer than expected, it has a great beat, words, and musical instrumentation throughout the whole song. Being drawn to this piece of music by its title and having had family fight for our freedom, I chose to learn more about this song. The introduction is an announcement of the "eyes" of the soldiers seeing enough of war. With the wording of "God's truth is marching on" and the war coming to an end, shows soldiers singing songs of praise for getting to come home and be with family. This gives a happy tone throughout the song. The beat on the instruments goes high and low as the singers of the song sing of God marching on to fight for freedom. Historical context Julia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her mother died giving birth to a sibling and her father was a successful banker. Women's education was limited at the time, but Julia took it upon herself to educate herself and some siblings. An older brother that traveled the world would send books back to the family. Julia loved to read them, expanding her knowledge and increasing her love of writing. She married Samuel Gridley Howe, who was famous for his work on the Greek Revolution reform. Julia and her husband, Samuel, lived in Massachusetts where her husband was a teacher. Julia would write letters to her sister when she was first married and those letters showed Julia was depressed. Julia and Samuel separated leaving two kids to stay with each parent. With a collection of poems Julia had written, she had them published anonymously, but the author was figured out because the poems were so personally descriptive. Becoming involved in reform movements, supported issues, women's rights, and education, Julia developed friendship with intellectual elite, William Ellery Channing, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, and Theodore Parker. Though her husband objected to her working, Julia helped edit a newspaper for a short period and was able to secure her own interest of work. Being fluent in seven languages and a scholar of philosophy helped Julia with her writings. The "Battle Hymn of the Republic," was published in 1861 and made her and instant celebrity, and made her one of the most famous women in the 19th century in America. Continuing to study on Women's Suffrage kept Julia involved, and she became a preacher, a reformer, a writer, and a poet. After the passing of her husband, Julia felt free and answered to no one but herself and God. She traveled the world promoting Women's rights and Education Reforms. She also helped in creating Mother's Day, a day were women could gather and discuss how to achieve world peace, and a mother's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Billie Holiday Research Paper "I never hurt nobody but myself and that's nobody's business but my own." Billie Holiday, some call her "queen of jazz", is an African American jazz female singer and songwriter who had tremendous influence on jazz and pop culture. Billie Holiday had a tough youth as she grew up. Her father, Clarence Holiday, abandoned her and her family to pursue his music dream when Holiday was still a baby. In furtherance of take off some of the pressure for the family financially, Holiday started to perform singing in different Harlem clubs in Brooklyn as she grew up. This little step officially started Billie Holiday's music career. However, Blue music was "[defined] as inferior to other forms of music" at that time, so Holiday did not get the recognition she deserved even after her death. Nonetheless, her passion for music is too strong and she desires to perform on the stage for her audience. In this case, she decides to have Louis as her manager to take care of her and her music career. After Holiday finishes her prison sentence, she is determined to continue her music career. Sadly, her privilege to perform in New York's night clubs is taken away from her considering her felony conviction. However, a white boss still has faith on Holiday's music talent under such dreadful situation. • 6. Berger Family Encounters In Awake And Sing The struggle the Berger family encounters in Awake and Sing is clearly evident by the setting Clifford Odets sets up for his audience. Throughout the opening pages of the play, particularly in this excerpt, the dialogue is chalk full with literary elements of mood, tone, and imagery. These three elements each complement each other as they all provide the play with a dark, depressing, and somber overtone. Not only does Odets provide the reader with textual and linguistic setting elements, but the physical setting portrays a gloomy atmosphere as well. The play takes place in an apartment in the Bronx, New York City during the Great Depression. Already, the time period of the play, in addition to the apartment being in the poverty stricken neighborhood of the Bronx gives context to how hard it is for the Berger ... These phrases, although said with hope, evoke emotion and put a sense of stress on the reader as they learn that this family cannot live comfortably. Ralph takes off his rose colored glasses and becomes less optimistic when he questions life by saying, "What's it for?" (Odets, 42). The audience now sees a man struggling with his identity and purpose. Ralph's words set a strong, dark, and continuous tone for the play that serves to encompass his entire family. Ralph continues to focus on his working career and how he still cannot seem to provide the little things in life that he desires. The reader is confronted with imagery that explains the reality of the Berger's situation through the eyes of Ralph. The audience comes to realize that Ralph sleeps on a "day–bed in the front room" (Odets, 42). The following songs contain special meaning, so I was able to relate each of them to an essay I wrote during my Comp I class. Music has always been a passion of mine, so relating my essays to a few of my favorite songs seemed like the obvious choice. These various songs mesh together and form my Comp I album. So put the cd in, and let's get listening! Track one: "Invincible" by Kelly Clarkson. There are several lyrics embedded in this song which can be related to the My Passion essay. That everything you see ain't always what it seems. I was dreaming for so long". Even later she starts to sing about her realization, and the process it took to get her there. I decided to compare this song to the Process Analysis paper because they both discuss going through some process. • 8. Awana Personal Narrative I grew up in a Christian home, with both my parents fully devoted to their faith. They would take me to church every Sunday and I would learn so much about this person named God. They also took me to Sparks, Cubbies, Awanas, TNT and eventually youth group. So I grew up knowing so much about God and memorizing scripture through the Awana programs. Also I remember every other morning waking up early in the morning, before my dad had to go to work, to my dad singing out so loud, "Devotions, Devotions!" and we would learn about something new that morning, give or take if I was actually awake to learn. • 10. The Slippery Snow On The Cold Ice Pack Today was supposed to be like every other Sunday. No matter what the weather gave us, we got up bright–and–early to go to church, and after we went to lunch at OUR FAMILY 'S DINER. As we were leaving lunch and heading back into town, we had our music blaring to pop hits as usual. My little sister and I love to dance in the car while my parents sing a duet, but today we got carried away. My father was paying more attention to hitting the high note than the flashing railroad lights ahead. By the time my father touched the brakes, we were far too close to the tracks. The slippery snow on the ground did not help his attempt to stop before the tracks. Then everything went black. When I woke up I could feel the cold ice pack against my left temple. Within seconds of my eyes being opened, nurses came running in to check my monitors. Pain radiated throughout my body. My right wrist and right leg were covered under a cast, and I had a neck brace around my neck. A thin, blonde nurse in a blue scrub asked, "Good morning, Dear. It's nice to see you 're finally awake. How do you feel? Do you remember anything?" "No, what happened? How long have I been asleep for? Where's my mom?" I asked impatiently, almost jumping out of my bed. "Settle down, Mallory. • 11. Maxine Greene On Education "Who am I?" is the question Maxine Greene asked, as she looked around the room, before she answered herself: "I am who I am not yet." This bold statement sums up Maxine Greene's philosophical concept of education that stems from her self– proclaimed ideas of existentialism. In this article, Greene discusses how combining curriculum and consciousness in education can evolve into continuous growth and rediscovery for us as educators. Education at its best is a process of teaching people to explore ideas about themselves and the world in which they live, to ask questions about the experience called "living" and to embrace ambiguity, to notice the unusual without fear and to look upon the ordinary with new eyes. Greene talks about living wide–awake, and that has to start by teaching, learning, and modeling wide–awakeness. Maxine Greene celebrates questioning, imagining, and evolving continuously as a teacher and student. Education is making sense of the world and how to work towards a transformation of it with new perceptions. Learning is a celebration of knowledge and how to move beyond where we have been "Without the ability to think about yourself, to reflect on your life, there is really no awareness, no consciousness. However, the song has much more meaning to it. In fact, it discusses depression and the horrible thoughts that can go through someone's mind at night. Moreover, in this song, night and day have special meaning. Tyler Joseph, the writer of the song and lead singer of the band, uses lyrics and different types of instruments, such as the synthesizer and strings, to portray the meanings behind the signs in this song. When Joseph is awake in the morning, he doesn't have dark thoughts and is sane, but at night, Joseph is insane and hears demonic voices. In addition, the voices are icons that represent evil and darkness. Later in the first lighter part, Joseph sings "Why wont you let me go, Do I threaten all your plans, I'm insignificant. You have no plans for me, I will set my soul on fire, what have I become, I'm sorry" (Joseph, Ode to Sleep). Joseph believes that he is fighting darkness with his harpoon, but he doesn't want to because by doing so, he is going insane. Moreover, when Joseph sings "I will set my soul on fire", he sounds like he is struggling to take a breath, as if he was fighting to live (Joseph, Ode to Sleep). • 26. The Theme Of Round About By Ogden Nash "Round About" Ogden Nash's poem, "Round About," expresses a clear theme of time. Humans value every year, month, week, day, hour, minute, and second of time. Although humans existence is just a spec in time, time is everlasting. It goes on forever. In that huge amount of time, humans only exist in the smallest portion of it. Specifically, Ogden Nash uses plenty of repetition throughout the poem. For example, "round about" (Nash 7), "around" (11), and "again" (20). Ogden Nash includes this repetition to convey that time repeats itself. Never ending time keeps occurring. Each and every day is just like the day before. Each morning one wakes up, once again. By repeating words that have to do with the repetition of time, it gets in the reader´s head that time repeats itself. Nash also uses rhyme to convey the theme of time. Some examples are, "Past" (3), "vast" (4), "ring around" (11), "swing around" (12), "astounded" (37), and "merry–go–rounded" (38). By using these rhymes, Nash is hinting towards time going around and around. He is comparing time to objects that have a circular motion, that showing time is going in a continuous circle. For example, merry–go–rounds are fun rides that go around in a circle. Time is being compared to a joyful ride that goes in a circular motion, and only in that motion. The ride does the same thing each and every time. Along with time. Humans wake up each morning ready to follow the same schedule as the day before. However, it can be a fun ride ... I think that music is a sound that is filled with a person's emotions, feelings, and thoughts; meanwhile it can also affect a person feelings and thought. I like brisk and lively songs that make me feel happy and relax, instead of heavy sad song or strong rhythm hit song because I can easily be emotional. Among all other songs, "Wide Awake" sung by an American singer named Katy Perry is a meaningful song for me. I still remember the first time I listened to this song was in the evening, and I had just went back from school and was having a rest in the living room while watching Astro Hitz with my sister. This song showed up in the television and I cannot move my eyes away from Katy Perry's music video. It was so touching and powerful for me, I can feel the beat, bass, pitch, and the lyrics that played around my head. It is an amazing song that I had ever heard and it touched my heart. I always wanted to live in a world that has no war, no natural disaster, no pollution, and everyone is so kind and nice. Yet, it was just a dream for me because the reality shown us that everything in this world may not always be wonderful. Sometimes, I feel like escaping myself from this world because everyone would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Speaker's Role in Three Poems by Howard, Wyatt, and... The Speaker's Role in Three Poems by Howard, Wyatt, and Raleigh The speakers in "Farewell, False Love," by Sir Walter Raleigh and "My Lute, Awake!" by Sir Thomas Wyatt the Elder have similar motivations, although the poems have differing constructs. Each speaker seeks to unleash his venomous emotions at a woman who has scorned him, by humiliating her through complicated revenge fantasies and savage metaphors. Through this invective, he hopes to convince us of this woman's inward ugliness. Raleigh catalogues a long list of conceits for his false love: she is every horrid thing from a "siren song" to "an idle boy that sleeps in pleasure's lap". The overtone of Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey's "Alas! So All Things Now Do Hold Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The eloquent "My Lute, Awake!" is ostensibly addressed to the speaker's lute and to his lover, but the story that he tells of her cruel rejection, and his predictions of her eventual lonely decrepitude, are clearly meant for our ears, and he is notably aware that we are listening. Although he refers to his lover as "thee," he acknowledges early on that she cannot or will not hear him: "As to be heard where ear is none, / As lead to grave in marble stone / My song may pierce her heart as soon." In "Farewell, False Love," Raleigh does not use the second person, and his motive is obviously to characterize his faithless love before his public. His metaphors are as creative as they are damning, and the verse itself is highly structured: the first stanza deals with his lover's dishonesty, the second with her appearance of sweetness which masks sin ("A poisoned serpent covered all with flowers. . . A gilded hook that holds a poisoned bait"), and so forth. This is no spontaneous outpouring of emotion: it's more like a finely tuned, premeditated character assassination. Raleigh and Wyatt both proclaim stoicism in the face of rejection, contending that they no longer care for their lovers after having been betrayed and rebuffed. Raleigh concludes his poem with "Dead is the root whence all these fancies grew." Wyatt asks his lute, "Should we then sing or sigh or moan? No, no, my lute for I have done." "Care then ... • 29. Love Between a Parent and Child in After Making Love We... Love Between a Parent and Child in After Making Love We Hear Footsteps There are several different definitions for the word love. Love is a simple four–letter word, with a multitude of caring and feeling behind it. There is a difference between loving somebody and being in love with somebody. The love between two best friends or between a husband and wife are the types of love that people want to last forever. However, there are no guarantees that it will last forever. Furthermore, the love between family members and the love between a parent and child is the kind of love that will last a life time. In Galway Kinnell's poem "After Making Love We Hear Footsteps" Kinnell writes about the love between a parent and child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The feeling of security that the parents give by being there helps the young boy sleep at night. For example, Galway Kinnell writes: and says, "Are you loving and snuggling? May I join?" he flops down between us and hugs us and snuggles himself to sleep, his face gleaming with satisfaction at being this very child. The parents understanding of knowing that the child needs security is just one the many responsibilities they have for being a parent. Furthermore, the parents feel that even though the situation there in is very frustrating, they would not give it up for anything. The love for their child will never go away. Kinnell expresses this feeling of love on the last couple of lines of the poem: This one whom habit of memory propels to the ground of his making, sleeper only the mortal sounds can sing awake, this blessing love gives again into our arms. The love between a parent and child is unconditional. It comes straight from the heart. The bond between a parent and child is something that only a parent can really understand. It starts before the child is born and will last a life time. Parents want to protect their child from any kind of harm. From the day the child is born, the mother and father will be the one that the child will depend on. The parents will be the one the child relies on whenever the child gets hurt, needs help, needs a shoulder to cry on, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Ramayana Of Valmiki And Sita Sings The Blues The Ramayana of Valmiki and Sita Sings the Blues The epic story of Rama and Sita, as portrayed by Valmiki's Ramayana and the modern day film Sita sings the Blues are two different versions of the same story which contain several contrasts as well as similarities. The Ramayana is the ancient version which was written by a sage named Valmiki in 550 B.C.E, featuring a love story between an ideal prince and an ideal woman. It outlines the adventures of Rama in his journey to find his abducted wife Sita. Rama is portrayed as an avatar, being the eighth incarnation of one of the Hindu gods Vishnu, while Sita is representing Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of light. The modern day version of the Ramayana is seen in Sita Sings the Blues, where the animator Nina Paley is relating her love story to that of Sita's predicament. This paper will compare and contrast the epic story of Valmiki's Ramayana and Sita Sings the Blues in the quest for power, honor, faithfulness and the conflict between good and evil. The author Valmiki in Ramayana discussed in detail human relationships, such as those between husband and wife, parents and children, siblings, rulers, and the ruled as shown in the story. It is often referred to as a holy text as well as a guide to social practices and attitudes. Nina, the animator of the film, Sita Sings the Blues, was seen reading the Ramayana constantly because it provided some sort of comfort to her. • 31. What Does It Mean To Say About Jesus 24: 42 One saying of Jesus that I have always liked is Matthew 24:42. In this Jesus says, "Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." This passage proceeds Jesus trial and persecution. Here he is just speaking to his disciples and telling them to no believe in false prophets and to stay on the path and continue to follow what Jesus has taught them. Because Jesus originally just told this to his disciples they would have interpreted this as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For me it means that God finds people in the strangest moments. Even when we expect Him, He comes because he knows that we need His help. I also interpret this as we do not know when Jesus is returning so we always need to be prepared for the final judgment. This means that we always want to live as God wants us to because it will not only make us happier, but also allows us to be prepared for His final judgment so that we can enter into heaven. I also see this as Jesus saying that you should live life to the fullest. He is saying that it is just not that coming of God that we are unsure of, but also the future that we are unsure of. This verse especially resonates with me because in lower school we would always sing the song "stay awake, be ready, you do not know the hour that the Lord is coming, stay awake, be ready, the Lord is coming soon." That is the main reason I chose this saying of Jesus, because it reminded me of happy childhood memories. Today I believe people would interpret these words as Jesus' return to Earth. Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Walt Whitman were three authors during this time that wrote about an idea that would later become the theme of many papers, discussions and lectures, Wakefulness. Though some may not have recognized the significance of these authors' work at the time, their ideas and beliefs have captivated the minds of many people. Thoreau had much to say about society that he wrote an essay entitled, Civil Disobedience, in which he says, "I think that we should be men first, and subjects afterward. It is not so desirable to cultivate a respect for the law, so much as for the right" (Thoreau, Civil Disobedience). Here Thoreau is saying, as a society many should think for themselves first, and then answer to the government or an authoritative figure after. He also says is hard to appreciate the law compared to what is actually right. He is right to an extent, although government is very important to this country. If more people thought for themselves instead of being subdued by the government, then the US would have a much more intellectual society that would give more freedom to the people. This allows Thoreau to become awake because he believes the world needs to live this way in order to be great. Emerson believes that creating a better society will stem from self–reliance as he writes in his essay; "Society is a joint–stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater. The virtue in most request is conformity. Self–reliance is its aversion. It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs" (Emerson, Self–Reliance). Emerson means that society may seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jacob symbolizes hope for humanity, as he is educated, and carries strong, idealistic opinions about the world he lives in. Despite being the eldest member of the household, Jacob is treated as though he is as juvenile as Ralph and Hennie. As the other family members berate him and invalidate his wisdom, Jacob asserts that "[he's] studying from books a whole lifetime" (Odets 74). Through compassionate dialogue and educated political beliefs, Jacob reveals his humble optimism and hope that Ralph will be able to pursue a much richer life than that of his current situation. His knowledge of current events and cognizance of the world around him makes him an advocate for political literacy, especially for the younger generation. This idea ties into his symbolism as hope for humanity, and translates into modern times, as young adults growing up in today's tense political climate feel pressure to educate themselves on the issues, in order to make informed choices. Jacob's advocacy for what he believes in also serves as a strong reminder of society's hopes that children will grow up having learned how to stand up for themselves. By passing on his wisdom to Ralph, and encouraging him to create a better life for himself, Jacob symbolizes hope for humanity.
