Sander's essay focuses on his childhood when men were working in manual labor jobs for the most
part and women largely staying at home. This is not the case in today's society where women are
also expected to get jobs most of the time. In this way, the burden on men to bring in the money has
lessoned but women still face the pressure of being beautiful. Tannen exposes this more current set
of problems for women when she discusses the expectation that women look "presentable" at work.
She writes, "The range of women's hairstyles is staggering, but a woman whose hair has no
particular style is perceived as not caring about how she looks, which can disqualify her for many
positions, and will subtly diminish her as a person in the eyes of some." Whereas men do not have to
think about their hairstyles and general appearance for work ––men's hair has to be unusual to be
marked and no makeup is unmarked for men–– women must consider how much makeup and what
hair–do they will do. Every style for women is marked and not taking the time to decide on a style
marks a woman as not put together. Even the arguments that Farrell brings up for what problems
men face in today's society ––which are often invalid–– seem inconsequential compared to the
points Tannen and Sontag make about the daily struggles women face. Farrell makes points such as

Bunch once said, "Feminism is an entire world view or gestalt, not just a laundry list of women's
issues." Feminism can be known as the broad range of ideas, approaches, and ideologies directed
towards advocating for gender equality for all. Feminism is a movement that seeks to achieve
equality and social rights for everyone in all key areas which includes; education, personal,
economic, employment, cultural sphere of human endeavors. While it is said by others that
feminism is only about the women and making them the dominant gender of all, it is the
changemaking of the world for gender equality and the chance for life changing moments for
women. First, feminism emphasizes the establishment for gender equality within humanity. For
example, there is an inequality with income pay between men and women leaving a gender wage
gap of 21% (Hill). The average woman earns 79 cents for every dollar earned by a man (Hill). Not
only that, women of different races such as being Latina and African American have an even bigger
wage gap with a 53% and 63% wage gap between men (Hill). Why is it that because of one's gender
whether male or female, there are sudden wage gaps between the two? Feminist organizations such

Wife of Bath Analysis Essay The Canterbury Tales depict many characters that, although fictionally
created by Geoffrey Chaucer, may give the reader the opportunity to analyze and interpret their tales
as a way of determining their personalities. The Wife of Bath and her prologue accurately supports
this statement, as her intentions become expounded due to her questionable actions. The Wife of
Bath exhibits in her prologue that she lacks respect and gratitude towards the men she beguiles into
marriage and does so by falsely claiming direction from God. She shows not only deceit towards her
many husbands, but also does not possess the ability to care about others before herself. The Wife of

The most vicious female serial killers are Josephine Szany and Vera Renczi. Josephine Szany was
born in Germany and Vera Renczi was born in Romania. Though they are quite different, they are
also incredibly similar. Both Vera and Josephine were inspired after they both suffered betrayal of

empowerment is when a person is confident with who they are as a person both physically and
mentally in terms of sexuality (Erchull & Liss, 2014). Instead of men and women being objectified

There are certain compliments are offensive to women without any discussion. These types of

Feminism. In today's modern age, when most people hear that word, they cringe and think of ugly,
hairy women ejecting hatred towards men, women that think they are subordinate and higher than

different words. As Oxford dictionary describes it, Misandry is a hatred of men while Feminism is

can understand why some people think that misandry equates to feminism. To encourage dialogue
between men and women in addressing these issues, there must be an end in viewing feminists as
misandrists. Instead of empowering all genders, it puts them down. The misconception about
feminism comes from a lack of understanding what feminists' goals are. The main goal being gender
equality. To achieve economic and social equality, we must acknowledge the three reasons why it is

Often society today only addresses one side of the gender inequality issue; the grievances of women.
Feminists have fought the ingrained tradition of women subjected to life as a housewife with no
rights since women are looked down upon as the lesser sex. Women have spent hundred of years
trying to break down gender barriers and constructs. Less discussed in the social issues of today are
the grievances men face. The issues of misogyny and misandry are discussed by the authors of

they do. Clothing that are too tight will mark a woman as promiscuous while loose clothing would

The definition of feminism states "the belief that men and woman should have equal rights and
opportunities" ("feminism"). Modern feminism is no longer about equality and is in fact
counterproductive to the cause. The fight for equal rights has been transformed into a fight for
privilege, waged against causes insignificant in the big picture of gender equality; causes like
manspreading, cat calls, air conditioning, and representation in video games. We are waging a war in
a new and changed society, using an old definition of what the movement is meant to be. Modern–
day feminism is now obsolete in the Western World because the fight for equal rights between
genders has been won.
First–wave feminism is a brand of feminism that refers to the early 19th and 20th centuries,
characterized by the fight that was primarily waged in favor of woman's suffrage and legal issues.
Second–wave was increasingly radical, and is the basis upon which modern–day feminist ideology
is based (Eichler). This movement spanned from the 1960s to the 80s, with dominant issues being
sexuality and reproductive rights. By the year 1989 in Canada, the United Nations has enacted the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, equal pay and fair employment legislation has been passed
across every province in the country and the Supreme Court has decided that sexual harassment is a

When I first started to read "The New Misandry" I thought I was not going to like it. I was
immediately turned off by the use of this word because it has such a powerful social stigma. As I
read more closely I appreciated her message a great deal more. I particularly liked the section where

This group of radical modern feminists' interpretation of feminism in comparison to the true essence
of the movement as it first came about decades ago is no longer the same because now it's not about
asserting power in relation to, its about asserting power over. The true meaning of feminism has
been diluted in the attempt to shift the power dynamic from a patriarchal to a matriarchal society.
Feminism is perceived to be negative because radical feminists have linked it synonymously with
man hating. To be a feminist now means to hate the male sex, which couldn't be further from the
truth. Therefore, it is crucial for the American woman to reject the philosophy of radical modern
feminists, to fully grasp what feminism really is.
To understand just how the wave of feminism today contrasts the movement in the past decades, it is
necessary to get a perspective on what social constructs against women lead to the women's rights
movement in the first place. Historical overview is essential in solidifying the overarching principles
of the movement when it began. As exemplified by Farley's texts on "Just Love", women have long
been viewed as property and not as citizens. Several cultures and traditions allowed the husbands to

worn throughout the 18th century. During this period, Turkish harem women wore clothes most
similar to ours. They wore cloaks over their chemise and loose trousers while also being veiled
(Olsen 59). This era marked conservatism in women's clothes. During the first–wave movement,
fashion did not become dynamic until the 1900s. In 1851, dress reformers tried to popularize a pair
of baggy pants beneath a knee–length tunic (Olsen 125). Although this effort was unsuccessful, it
marks the beginning of dress reform and sixty–five years later, hem lengths would rise by ten inches
(Olsen 177). The 1920s marked the era of the flappers, when the use of makeup became
commonplace and women wore knee–length dresses and bared more skin (Olsen 207, 214). A few
decades after, pants would be allowed, introducing scandalous shorts along with it. Although heavily
criticized, the stigma of shorts lessened, showing us more familiar styles. Dress reform went full
force in this era.
Fashion during the second–wave feminism was marked the increase of more comfortable clothing.
Women were primarily working in factories for the war effort, so their dress was consisted mainly of
pants and high collared shirts []. Fashion in this era would eventually go towards flashy padded
shoulders and colorful pants [].

Libertarian feminists claim that the "root of female oppression lies in women's ability to bear
children" (Gibbs, 2006, p.g 71–93). Liberal feminists on the other hand focus on personal and
political autonomy, and see the root of female oppression to be the existence of gender roles. Among
all these different kind of feminism, a single political agenda binds them together, a common
purpose; gender equality. Like most things, there are misconceptions about certain subjects. For
example the media tends to focus on feminist extremist, and (knowingly or unknowingly)
perpetuates the stereotype that feminists hate men, and that their agenda includes the eventual
societal elevation above men. Nothing could be further from the truth since the actual definition of
feminism is, "The advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic
equality to men." (Oxford Dictionary, 2014). Here we see that it is not a competition to the top of the
pyramid, rather it is an effort to join the sexes in equality. The problem that arises from the
definition is the lack of explanation of the methods, and ideologies, and that is breeding ground for
speculation and therefore misconceptions. The solution to this problem is simple; we must
acknowledge that there are different methods employed by different women to reach equality. The
