I. SUBJECT MATTER

Worksheet, Patterning Shapes Worksheet, coloring pens, clay dough
II. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the session, the students will be able to:
1. Identify circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles
2. Describe what a side is and the differences of shapes
3. Pattern the shapes using clay dough
III. PROCEDURE
A. Motivation
Watch Shapes Song and Preschool Shapes song
After watching the videos, ask the students which shapes they noticed.
Tell students that today they will be learning about shapes with a fun game and some coloring.
B. Presentation
Students will gather in the mat
Place a yellow rectangle, red square, blue circle, purple rectangle, and orange triangle in front of
the students
Tell students that you will describe a shape and they are to guess which one it is.
Proceed with the following prompts: something blue with no sides, something orange with three
sides, something red with four corners, and something purple with four sides.
Ask students to think about how a circle is different from a square, and how a square is different
from a triangle.
Ask students to describe what a side is, to which they should answer one straight line that makes
part of a shape.
Ask students to describe a corner, where two sides of a shape touch.
C. Activity
Hand out the Coloring worksheet.
Read the instructions and model how to color one or two of the shapes.
Ask students to raise their hands if they understand what they will be doing.
Let them work independently on their seats.
D. Enrichment
Hand out “Patterning Shapes Worksheet” to students
Through the use of clay dough, students will pattern sides of the shapes to form shapes
E. Closing
Watch Shapes songs and Preschool Shapes song again
Let the students dance to the songs
Review the students and ask them about what they learned today
IV. EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT
Individual Assessments – the students should follow directions: color and pattern the shapes accurately.
