EDUC 8102-6 APPLIED RESEARCH AND ADULT LEARN 2
Learning Journal Module 2, of EDUC 8101-6, addresses key elements involved with
developing and conducting research. The purpose of this paper is to discuss an area or areas of
this process which I was either confused by and/or did not clearly understand. Research
Knowledge Assessment, RKA, quizzes are designed to identify such issues. In terms of learning
experiences, I will discuss the result of the quiz (29/30) from a before and after perspectives.
Analyzing and reporting correlational research is a quantitative method that I did not fully
understand. Specifically, how do researchers determine the degree of relationships among three
or more variables? That said; Let us examine a few details about this experience.
LG3: Self Analysis of RKA Quiz #2
The term correlational research depicts a non-experimental design. It is used to determine, for
example, if relationships exist; if so, to what extent. In other words, does one variable have a
positive or negative influence on another? Do bright colors such as red have a negative
influence on preschoolers’ behaviors? This question is indicative of correlational research
design.
As I read the text, I felt that I clearly understood the terminology and that the examples were
more basic than technical, which made comprehension easier. However, when a question was
posed on the quiz, I became unsure and, therefore, missed the answer. This experience suggests
that my conception of the subject was not as clear as I had though. However, after a second
review of chapter 2, Methods in educational research: From theory to practice, I realize that
correlation coefficients scores range from positive 1.00 to negative 1.00, which means that, as far
as the first position, if variables A and B moved in that direction than researchers could conclude
that a positive relationship exists. On the other hand, the latter would be inferred if, say, both

variables moved in the opposite direction (Lodico, Spaulding, & Voegtle, 2010, p.35). The
primary lesson learned, here, is that if knowledge is fully acquired, then answers to questions
should be correct regardless of how they are structured.
In summary, RKA quiz #2 identified which areas of Module 2, Applied Research and Adult
Learn, that I did not fully understand after reading the required literature. Module 2 learning
Journal is an educational tool that has helped me understand primary components of developing
and conducting research, including processes involved with correlational research. This was
achieved through journal writings, reflection on outcomes, and analyses and review of the
literature. My score of 29/30 demonstrates the effectiveness of this process.

  • 2. EDUC 8102-6 APPLIED RESEARCH AND ADULT LEARN 2 Learning Journal Module 2, of EDUC 8101-6, addresses key elements involved with developing and conducting research. The purpose of this paper is to discuss an area or areas of this process which I was either confused by and/or did not clearly understand. Research Knowledge Assessment, RKA, quizzes are designed to identify such issues. In terms of learning experiences, I will discuss the result of the quiz (29/30) from a before and after perspectives. Analyzing and reporting correlational research is a quantitative method that I did not fully understand. Specifically, how do researchers determine the degree of relationships among three or more variables? That said; Let us examine a few details about this experience. LG3: Self Analysis of RKA Quiz #2 The term correlational research depicts a non-experimental design. It is used to determine, for example, if relationships exist; if so, to what extent. In other words, does one variable have a positive or negative influence on another? Do bright colors such as red have a negative influence on preschoolers’ behaviors? This question is indicative of correlational research design. As I read the text, I felt that I clearly understood the terminology and that the examples were more basic than technical, which made comprehension easier. However, when a question was posed on the quiz, I became unsure and, therefore, missed the answer. This experience suggests that my conception of the subject was not as clear as I had though. However, after a second review of chapter 2, Methods in educational research: From theory to practice, I realize that correlation coefficients scores range from positive 1.00 to negative 1.00, which means that, as far as the first position, if variables A and B moved in that direction than researchers could conclude that a positive relationship exists. On the other hand, the latter would be inferred if, say, both
  • 3. EDUC 8102-6 APPLIED RESEARCH AND ADULT LEARN 3 variables moved in the opposite direction (Lodico, Spaulding, & Voegtle, 2010, p.35). The primary lesson learned, here, is that if knowledge is fully acquired, then answers to questions should be correct regardless of how they are structured. In summary, RKA quiz #2 identified which areas of Module 2, Applied Research and Adult Learn, that I did not fully understand after reading the required literature. Module 2 learning Journal is an educational tool that has helped me understand primary components of developing and conducting research, including processes involved with correlational research. This was achieved through journal writings, reflection on outcomes, and analyses and review of the literature. My score of 29/30 demonstrates the effectiveness of this process.
