4. Zawiercie is a city in the Silesian Voivodeship of southern Poland
with 49,334 inhabitants. It is situated in the Kraków-Częstochowa
Upland near the source of the Warta River. The town lies near the
historical region of Silesia, but belongs to Lesser Poland.
5. KROMOŁÓW
Kromołów is the oldest
quarter of Zawiercie as
the earliest mention of
it dates back to the year
1193. It was founded
by the knight Kromol,
from which the
settlement's name
comes from.
6. POINTS OF INTEREST
Zawiercie is home to many historic monuments
of interest to tourists, such as the church of St.
Holy Trinity in Zawiercie-Skarzyce, built in 1583;
the church of St. Nicholas, built in the 16th
century with Neo-Renaissance high altar and
baroque stony baptismal font; the palace of
Stanisław Szymański which houses the
Municipal Library, as well as a manor-house in
Zawiercie-Bzow from the first half of the 19th
century. There are also two Jewish cemeteries
in the town.
14. Zawiercie also serves as a base for treks
into the surrounding area. The Zborow
Mountain in Podlesice and the
Rzedkowickie Rocks are popular
climbing areas. The town is a departure
point to the Eagles’ Nest Park with
numerous ruined castles such as
Morsko, Mirow, Bobolice and the
route’s highlight – Ogrodzieniec castle
in Podzamcze.
21. Aljustrel is a town and in the Portuguese district of Beja with about 9,257
inhabitants, which is well known for its mines, industrial mining and geological
heritage. In the Roman times it was called Vipasca and it was then one of the
most important mining centers of the empire. The current name comes from
the times of Arab rule in this area. Al-lustre” means the glow and light that
reflects from the pieces of pyrite and other rocks mined to the surface.

Aljustrel is famous for Rota do Património Mineiro
de Aljustrel” (“Aljustrel Mining Heritage Route”) -
this circular route is 12 kilometers long and takes
tourists through all the most interesting places in
the city, including the hill of the chapel of Nossa
Senhora do Castelo, the Museum of Archeology, the
mining grounds near the urban settlement and
the neighbourhood of São João do Deserto. Other
places worth the visit include the Igreja Matriz
Church, decorated with gorgeous tiles panels and
the Igreja de Misericórdia Church from the 16th
century.
36. Póvoa de Varzim is a Portuguese city in Northern Portugal with
63,470 inhabitants. It is a modern resort town whose main appeal is
the beach with golden sands and clear waters, notable for being rich
in iodine. Permanent habitation in town dates back to around four to
six thousand years ago. Modern Póvoa de Varzim emerged after the
conquest by the Roman Republic of the city by 138
BC. The ocean has always played an important part in its economy,
first through maritime trade, and later through fishing. In the 18th
century it became the main fishing port in northern Portugal. In the
Age od Discovery the town gained importance due to
its shipbuilders and merchants who traded around the globe in
complex trade routes.

Porto, 30 km from its city
centre, in a sandy coastal plain,
halfway between
the Minho and Douro rivers.
• The city has
eleven Partes (parts), or
districts. which, in turn, are
part of two formal
administrative structures
known as freguesias (civil
parishes): U.F. Póvoa de Varzim,
Beiriz e Argivai and U.F. Aver-o-
Mar, Amorim e Terroso. To the
south, there is an urban
continuity with the city of Vila
do Conde to where the city
grew in the past.

Póvoa de Varzim is a complex historical city, with
fishing, rural and bourgeois roots. Not only is it a
perfect destiation for beach holiday lovers but also
it is ideal for those who want to get glimpse into the
past by visiting the Póvoa de Varzim City Hall, The
Castle of Póvoa or Matriz Church of Póvoa de
Varzim. The Castle of Póvoa used to guard the town
against pirate raids. The Matriz Church of Póvoa de
Varzim is a baroque church with a beautiful rococo
styled altar. The Povoa de Varzim museum is
located in a traditional manor house and dispalys
exhibits reflecting the region’s history.
