En 71 certificate for toys testing
1.
2. EN 71 Certificate for Toys
Children are the primary target of a large group of
industries today, the primary one being toys. This is
why testing of toys according to a specific standard set
is required. While the IS - 9873 (Part 1, 3, 9) and IS
15644 guidelines are being tested, a step further would
be testing with regards to standards for the EN71
certification, the standard of European toy market. In
addition to existing tests, these would also ensure
checking for magnetic and electrical toys, with
suitable warning labels.
3. The material and automatic attributes of a toy would
be checked via the characteristics of fall detection,
choking hazard and minor parts, sharp edges , stress
testing, pressure testing, seam detection for plush
toys, and torsion test. These parameters can be tested
for an advanced safety measure, to make sure of the
same for children.
4. The standard has been published in 13 parts:
EN 71-1: Mechanical and physical attributes
EN 71-2: Flammability and related issues
EN 71-3: Specification for migration of select components
EN 71-4: Experimental sets for chemistry and related activities
EN 71-5: Other chemical sets
EN 71-6: Symbol specifications for age warning labels
EN 71-7: Finger paints
EN 71-8: Swings, slides and similar activity toys for indoor and
outdoor family domestic use
EN 71-9: Requirement of organic chemicals
EN 71-10: Preparation and extraction of samples where organic
chemicals are involved
EN 71-11: Analysis methods of organic compounds
EN 71-12: N-Nitrosamines and N-Nitrosatable Substances
EN 71-13: Olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and the like
5. One tested for EN71 standard, the toy is given a CE
mark. It is present on all toys in order for them to be
sold within the European Union, a guarantee that it
meets the minimum requirement of EN71, and can
safely be sold within markets.
With this test, we can further ensure the safety of the
toys that are being rolled into the markets today, and it
takes us a step further to better quality products for the
children of today.
