1. Immediately the first verse puts into perspective that the singer
deeply cares about whom ever he’s singing about, but they do not
have a relationship where she has to tell him what she’s doing,
anymore.
The final line ‘Keep me in the know’ shows that things are not the
way he would have them.
(0:00) Instrumental (0:30)
(0:30)Wait, where you say you've been? (0:34)
(0:34)Who you been with? (0:37)
(0:38)Where you say you're goin'? (0:40)
(0:40)Who you goin' with? (0:43)
(0:43)Keep me on my toes,
Keep me in the know. (0:50)
(0:54)Wait, keep me in your skin,
Keep me in your chest. (1:01)
(1:01)I'll wait for it to start,
I'll wait for it to end. (1:07)
In this first part of the chorus the singer finally says how it is a girl he is
singing about, one who he still loves despite being with other women. In
the last line he gives the impression that he may have done something
that he now feels he has to make up for if he can ever be with her again.
This would mean that throughout the video the singer would constantly
show regret towards her.
(1:07)Keep me on my toes,
Keep me in the know. (1:14)
(1:16)But when I looked at her,
I thought of only you. (1:25)
(1:25)If only there was proof I could
use to show it's true. (1:38)
(1:41) We were young,
We were in our teens. (1:45)
(1:46) It wasn't real love,
Spent behind bars. (1:52)
(1:53) Oh it's sad to think,
We just let it be.
Prisoners of love. (2:01)
Throughout the second verse the singer continues to tell of how he
wishes to be closer to whom he’s singing about. But this person is still
anonymous, which creates a great chance for a lead up to the reveal in
the music video.
Here a quicker beat starts, where the singer might start walking in-sync to as
he gets ready to explain what went wrong. In the next verse it is explained how
they first met and how the singer feel that because they were young their time
was wasted, ‘It wasn’t real love.’ Perhaps this is why he seems to have waited
long enough that he’d had other relationships before he felt he had a chance to
prove himself again. Maybe he feels that they should have said what they felt
instead of doing what they thought was expected: ‘Prisoners of love.’
(2:05) It's so easy for it to be,
Something second guessed. (2:12)
(2:13) Easy to read,
Don't let it become,
A meaningless routine. (2:21)
(2:22) It's meaningless to me. (2:27)
He continues to say how they didn’t make what they had matter,
throughout the next verse and ends with the lines: ‘Don’t let it become a
meaningless routine, it’s meaningless to me.’ This again shows how he
thought they didn’t care enough about what they had, but it doesn’t matter
to him anymore, because he just wants to make things right. These two
verses are the perfect cue for flashback scenes.
(2:28) But when I looked at her,
I thought of only you. (2:37)
(2:40) If only there was proof I could use to show it's true. (2:50)
(2:53) Just crash, fall down,
I'll wrap my arms around you now. (3:03)
(3:05) Just crash, it's our time now,
To make this work second time around. (3:16)
(3:17) We grew up,
We worked and changed our ways. (3:21)
(3:22) Just like wildfire,
Been burning now for days. (3:28)
(3:29) Tearing down those walls,
Nothing's in our way.
I said, nothing's in our way. (3:37)
(3:40) And I know,
I've said this all before,
But opposites attract. (3:48)
(3:49) We try and run away,
But end up running back. (3:55)
In this main chorus he sings aggressively as he explains how he
wants to forget everything that had happened before and just
start again. This could be where the girl he has been singing
about is finally shown in the present, and not just in flashbacks.
As if to further his argument the singer then goes back to the past tense
to explain how they grew apart, yet it shouldn’t matter. He feels they
still have a chance, and therefore should take it: ‘Nothing’s in our way’.
2. (3:56) And all I want to do,
All I want to do,
Is lie down and... (4:05)
In this last verse he shows that this isn’t the first time he’s tried to
get back with this girl: ‘I’ve said this all before’ which means that in
the video the girl could seem angry and frustrated that he’s
bothering her again. The singer could also look as though he’s on
the edge of desperation as the song becomes more powerful and the
words are practically begging.
(4:06) Crash, fall down.
I'll wrap my arms around you now. (4:15)
(4:17) Just crash, it's our time now,
To make this work, second time around. (4:27)
(4:29) Oh crash, fall down.
Just crash, fall down.
Just crash, fall down.
Just crash, fall down. (4:53)
In the last chorus he repeats everything
he’s already said before over and over
again, getting louder and louder. Creating
a sad ending as it seems his words have
not made a difference yet again.
