My idea for the first verse is to have a shot of the protagonist and his
friend having a conversation. I could include a graphic match shot where
there is a glass of water that spins and turns into another circle. I want it
to spin because of the word whirl. There is also a thought-beat at the
point of the lyric ’Around you’ so I want to definitely change shot there,
perhaps to the friend.
Some of my best friends are girls (0:13-0:16)
Come on, I'm sure you're wrong (0:17-0:21)
We will find one that you, belong to (0:21-0:25)
In this verse I want a shot reverse shot between the protagonist and his
friend. He could be trying to reason with him, trying to cheer him up. At
the final line of this verse the audience can figure out what this song is
about (his friend’s breakup).
And the more I drink with you (0:26-0:30)
The more I see the mess she made (0:31-0:34)
Pour yours down the drain (0:35-0:37)
And we'll wrest away the mess she made (0:38-0:40)
In this verse I would introduce the conceptual character I have named
Depression. This would be an actor dressed up in a black morphsuit or
something similar, with black face paint and body paint on. This character,
Depression, would hang around the friend and protagonist.
Crashing on my couch again (0:42-0:44)
Rain rain drizzle drizzle while the room spins (0:44-0:47)
Grey blankets forever (0:48-0:51)
In this verse, Depression could be laid on the couch along with the friend.
I am thinking about a shot where Depression puts his hands on the face of
the friend to create an atmosphere in the music video as this particular
verse is quite melancholy.

2. Drink drink water water in the moonlight (0:55-0:58)
With me, alright, you'll see (0:58-1:01)
That the world is full of self-erasing angels (1:03-1:07)
In this verse I want the protagonist to start confronting Depression. This
is a metaphor for comforting and helping his friend get through his
situation. The protagonist could be lip syncing to the camera as he fights
with depression. The friend could be behind him in the second line as he
says ‘With me’.
And the more I drink with you (1:07-1:12)
The more I see the mess she made (1:13-1:15)
Pour yours down the drain (1:16-1:18)
And we'll wrest away the mess she made (1:19-1:22)
Since this verse is the chorus I want to take the time during this verse to
have the protagonist fighting with Depression, trying to help his friend. I
would like a tracking shot of them doing choreographed moves.
Cos maybe (1:35-1:36)
You just need some time (1:37-1:39)
To sober up your mind (1:40-1:43)
And remember all the reasons to forget her (1:43-1:47)
In this verse I want the protagonist to be reasoning again with the friend,
he is trying to encourage him to also fight against Depression.
And maybe (1:48-1:50)
The moisture on your sleeve (1:50-1:53)
Will dry before you leave (1:54-1:56)
So you can wear your heart back on your sweater (1:57-2:04)
This verse clearly indicates that the friend has been wiping his eyes with
his sleeve, and time will heal his sadness (moisture drying). The final line
shows that the friend was open with his feelings (wearing his heart on his
sleeve/sweater) and that he will return to being like that in time. I want
the friend to understand at this point and in the next and final two verses
for him to start fighting. At the end of the song he returns to happiness
and drives Depression away.
