Background The idea for the project came from a community eco-design forum that featured the innovative work of Brita Riley. Riley created the first hydroponic window farm installation located in New York City in February of 2009 (Riley). Her objective was to teach those who lived in urban food deserts and worked in office buildings an affordable and easily maintainable way to grow their own food and personally involve them in issues related to agriculture and the environment. Food deserts are an area where large-scale supermarkets have abandoned--leaving the entire community with little or no access to affordable, quality food (Bullard). Riley created a community forum using social media in order to encourage other artists and gardening enthusiasts to develop their own versions of her hydroponic, soilless, gardening system. And she states that The ultimate aim of the Windowfarms project, however, is not to create a perfected physical object or product. Rather, the most highly valued result is a rewarding experience with crowsdsourced innovation. We are interested in the participants’ experience as they design for their own microenvironments, share ideas, rediscover the power of their own capacity to innovate, and witness themselves playing an active role in the green revolution (Riley). Thesis Even though low income groups produce the lowest ecological footprints, cohort groups who fall below the poverty threshold would benefit in many ways from learning about sustainability practices because they demonstrate the largest need for these principles (Echo). While some low income Americans have learned little about the corporate “green movement” advertised in the media and its impact on the environment, if these cohort groups had better access to information about the income barriers and other economic factors that limit access to education... 511 vol. 14 • no. 5 American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine AnAlytic Abstract: There is overwhelming evidence in the scientific and medical literature that physical inactivity is a major public health problem with a wide array of harmful effects. Over 50% of health status can be attributed to unhealthy behaviors with smoking, diet, and physical inactivity as the main contributors. Exercise has been used in both the treatment and prevention of a variety of chronic conditions such as heart disease, pulmonary disease, diabetes, and obesity. While the negative effects of physical inactivity are widely known, there is a gap between what physicians tell their patients and exercise compliance. Exercise is Medicine was established in 2007 by the American College of Sports Medicine to inform and educate physicians and other health care providers about exercise as well as bridge the widening gap between health care and health fitness. Physicians have many competing demands at the point of care, which often translates into limited time spent counseling patients. The consistent message from all health care providers to their patients should be to start or to continue a regular exercise program. Exercise is Medicine is a solution that enables physicians to support their patients in implementing exercise as part of their disease prevention and treatment strategies. Keywords: inactivity; exercise; vitals; behaviors; referral Physical inactivity underlies many of the chronic conditions that affect people worldwide, has an astonishing array of harmful health effects, and is associated with escalating health care costs. For example, 7 cancers have been linked to a physically inactive lifestyle.1 Depression affects 17 million Americans2 and has been directly linked to insufficient physical activity.3 Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are increasing at a frightening rate. By 2025, the number of people aged 65 years and older with Alzheimer’s disease is expected to reach 7.1 million people. In the United States alone, more than 30 million adults are estimated to have diabetes,4 95% of whom have type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Considering that a new case of diabetes is diagnosed every 21 seconds, it is no surprise that diabetes is the most expensive disease in America, coming in at a price tag of $327 billion annually.5 Underlying the vast majority of T2DM are unhealthy lifestyle behaviors (poor nutrition and insufficient physical activity leading to overweight and obesity). In addition to T2DM, an unhealthy lifestyle (including tobacco use, excessive alcohol intake, poor sleep, and stress) underlies prevalent and costly chronic diseases (eg, heart disease and cancer) leading to premature morbidity and mortality. While other determinants of health (genetics, environment, and medical care) influence health outcomes, by far the most important factor contributing to health outcomes is in.

The combination of all three factors is critical in reducing the chances of getting severe health complications such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, cancer, stroke, and heart complications. Managing a good health condition also relies on how one adhere to regular physical exercises, a well-maintained body weight, and a healthy diet. However, according to (Healthy People 2020), most Americans don't check their menu and are lazy in taking apart in physical activities to the required levels as a way of maintaining proper health. According to CDCP (2013), fruit consumption among adults is 1.1 times in a day, and the use of vegetables on a daily scale is 1.6, with adolescents recording the lowest use of both fruits and vegetables. The statistic shows that the average daily consumption of both fruits and vegetables among Americans doesn't meet the recommended intake of fruits and vegetables. About 81.6% and 81.8% of American adults and adolescents respectively don't take part in physical activities on a recommended daily scale. These behaviors are among the leading factors that contribute to the rising cases of Obesity. Approximately 1 out of 3 US adults, which represents 34 % and 1 out of 6 adolescents and children, which is 16.2 %, are obese. Obesity-related complications include stroke, heart disease, and type two diabetes. The current in death cases is as a result of the obesity-related complications. Besides the death cases, obesity-related diseases cots this country millions of money annually, making it one of the most significant burdens that this country is struggling with regards to the health care system. Introduction Maintaining a healthy diet is an essential factor that determines how healthy our bodies become. We must retain less sugar, salt, and fats diet daily. Cases associated with obesity are not causing deaths but also taking so much of this country's financial resources. Every year both the federal, state, and county governments invest million into the health sector as a way of improving the infrastructures required to deal with obesity-related complications. Any healthy combines a variety of foods such as cereals, legumes, proteins, fruits, and vegetables. Research shows that obesity is gradually grown into a global crisis with WHO initiating campaigns aimed at establishing the importance of maintaining a healthy diet (Abidin, 2014). The love for foods prepared away from homes is another challenging factor in dealing with obesity complications. Fast foods contain .
