In Macbeth's Act 1 scene 7, Macbeth is unsure on whether he should kill King Duncan. As He
begins to analyze King Duncan's honorable character and the betrayal he'll be known for if he
executes the King, he keeps a doubtful and pitiful tone. Lady Macbeth is able to convince Macbeth
to follow through with their plan by attacking Macbeth's character and persuading him to follow his
desires. She keeps a seductive and demanding tone. The appeal used in Act 1 Scene 7, is both ethos
and pathos; while still using rhetorical strategies such as repetition, diction, irony, metaphors and
imagery.

ambition and wants him to kill the King once and for all. Lady Macbeth begins to attack Macbeth's
character and provokes him to kill King Duncan by saying, "What beast was 't, then, That made you
break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man; And to be more than what
you were, you would be so much more the man," (Lady Macbeth,1.7,47–51) Through this quote it's
easy to see that Lady Macbeth is aware of Macbeth's vulnerability so she attacks his manhood
making him feel less of a man for going back on his word. In order to put her plans in action she
uses a heavy pathos appeal in the following lines, "From this time Such I account thy love. Art thou
afeard to be the same in thine own act and valor As thou art in desire... ornament of life, and live a
coward in thine own esteem, letting "I dare not" wait upon "I would," (Lady Macbeth,1.7,39–44)
Through this quote Lady Macbeth makes Macbeth feel sympathetic and cowardice for not
following his desires, she uses their love and how she will view him to lure him into the plan even

My aim in this essay is to explain what Act 1, scene 7 tells us about the characters of Macbeth and
Lady Macbeth, and what troubles does Macbeth come across and how does Lady Macbeth persuade
him to murder King Duncan.
The purpose that Shakespeare wrote act 1, scene 7, is to notify the audience more about Macbeth's
and Lady Macbeth's feeling and thoughts about murdering King Duncan. For example, when

Overall I think that in act 1 scene 7, Lady Macbeth used Macbeth for her own selfish reasons. Lady
Macbeth persuaded Macbeth to murder King Duncan, which is one of the major tragedies in the
story, so Lady Macbeth has an important role of the incident, which had occurred.
As being the dominated one in their relationship Lady Macbeth uses all her control over Macbeth
to make Macbeth murder king Duncan. She also challenges his patriarchy to make him murder
the King. For example, when Lady Macbeth says "When you durst do it, then you were a man."
Now that Macbeth is trying to back out of it, Lady Macbeth is calling him a coward and torments
him to do the murdering. She also says " Wouldst thou have that which thou esteem'st the
ornament of life and live a coward in thine own esteem..." In other words, Lady Macbeth uses the
power of love to persuade him. She also says if you love me you would kill him straight away
with no hesitation. Lady Macbeth says "I have given suck and know how tender В‘tis to love the
babe that milks me: I would, while it was smiling in my face, have pluck'd my nipple from his
boneless gums and dash'd the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done to this." In this quotation

Macbeth is a tragedy written by Shakespeare. at the start of the play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's
relationship is strong and that they see each other as partners "of greatness". Although most of the
blame is put onto Lady Macbeth by the audience, Macbeth already had ambition and was already
thinking of murdering King Duncan. But how exactly did Lady Macbeth convince her husband to

The Relationship of Macbeth and his wife in Act 1 Scene 5 and 7 From the beginning of the play,
the relationship between Macbeth and his wife seem to be the expected partnership in romance,
however, as the play progresses, our expectations seems to change for the worst. We are informed

She knows that Macbeth hasn't got what it takes to make this plan work so she takes the leading

opening with Macbeth's soliloquy, we as the audience, really get a sense of guilt that seeps
through Macbeth. This is beyond his usual attitude so this is hard for him to cope with. He knows
how much he wants to be king but what frightens him the most are the consequences. He uses the
metaphor "If th'assassination could trammel up the consequence and catch with his surcease,
success...we'd jump the life to come..." which translated means "If this assassination could work
like a net and prevent any consequences, he would be more than happy to risk the afterlife to do
so." Macbeth knows that Duncan is a highly respected man because of his good intentions and
purely hearted nature so he is afraid if he is made known to the people that he is responsible, the
chances of him becoming king will be shattered. He contemplates the idea of killing Duncan and

Scene 2: Norweigian and Scotland armys are at war with each other. Duncan is the king of Scotland.
He is informed of both Macbeth and Banquo's bravenery in battle. Macbeth beheaded Macdonald's

Overall, event act 1, scene 2 affects the cynical mood of the story dramatically by implying King
Duncan's trust and faith in Macbeth. Towards the end of the story, the irony is the King Duncans
trust backfired and now Macbeth is a merciless ruler. The quote, "The victory fell on us," relates to
the play as a whole because the quote displays how Scotland won against the Norwegian army. This

Macbeth is Shakespeare's shortest Elizabethan drama and especially tragedy. It was first performed
in 1606 at the Globe Theatre in London and it was inspired by true events. The story takes place in
Scotland and concerns a brave soldier named Macbeth who received the prophecy that he'd become
the King of Scotland. Drunk with ambition Macbeth decides to kill king Duncan, to make the
prophecy come true and eventually gets paranoiac. The story is about the corrupting power of
ambition and through it, Shakespeare tries to convey the message that, crime does not pay. Act 1
scene 7, that is later analyzed, is a scene of great importance for the play. Despite the fact that it is

All of the themes come to surface through Macbeth's soliloquy but at different points. The theme
of good and evil, is the basic conflict in Macbeth's mind. We see him, trying to distinguish
between what is good and what is evil, when he lists the reasons why he should not kill Duncan
and realizes that if such crime was committed, there would be a great disorder. The theme of guilt,
again appears while he is listing the reasons for not killing his king. We realize through his lines ,
("who should against his murderer shut the door, not bear the knife") that he does not feel
comfortable with what he is thinking of doing and that after the murder, guilt will haunt him. Lastly
the theme of ambition, appears in his last lines, where he says "vaulting ambition which o'erleaps

Analysis Of Act 1 Of Macbeth
Act 1
Act 1 of Macbeth is all about how lady macbeth tries to convince Macbeth to kill King Duncan. It
is through her persuasive words and cunning plan that Macbeth is eventually convinced to kill the
King. The song that best fits act 1 for macbeth is "Alcohol" by the Kinks. The song talks about how
alcohol; which I relate to lady macbeth, is a deadly poison that overtime controls and turns the
victim into something they are not. In the beginning of the play macbeth was a "winner who
enjoyed a life of prominence and position",(kinks) but as the play goes on he is perssured by lady
macbeth to go through with her plan. Lady Macbeth tells macbeth that she "do[es] fear thy nature; It
is too full of the milk of human kindness."(Shakespeare 1.7.19–22) This makes macbeth feel as if he
is not "manly" enough to go through with the killing king duncan, thus pushing him closer to
committing the crime.
Act 2
In Act 2 Macbeth goes through with the plan to kill King Duncan. This is the biggest part of the
play because this is what sets macbeth on a downward slope which ultimately costs him his own
life. The song I chose for Act 2 is "Kill the King" by Rainbow. I chose this song because it literally
talks about killing a king. In this scene Macbeth is still frightened about what he has done and
"prays that the earth will "hear not [his] steps"(Shakespeare 2.1.30,57) as he completes his plan to
kill Duncan. At this time in the play power and greed to become king begin taking control of
Macbeth's actions. The song kill the embodies Macbeth's guilt and shows how greed for power will
ultimately consume him. In this scene "Power... it happens every day Power, devour[s] [Macbeth]
all along the way"(Rainbow). After killing Duncan, macbeth hits a turning point where power has
"devoured" him and he can no longer look back.
Act 3
In act 3 of the play Banquo's ghost appears to Macbeth. Banquo's ghost is a reminder of Macbeth's
guilt for killing him. His ghost could also be seen as an omen because when the ghost sat down he
sat in Macbeth's place. This foreshadowing shows that macbeth too could soon be dead. For this act

Act 1 Scene 7: Macbeth's Old Versus Modernized Soliloquy
Both Macbeth's soliloquy and the modernized Macbeth soliloquy fall under the greater theme of
internal conflict. In Macbeth's soliloquy, Macbeth contemplates whether or not he should kill King
Duncan. He says his ambition makes him want to assassin the King if the plan would work
smoothly, yet he is indecisive and cannot bring himself to action as Duncan is a trustworthy man and
Macbeth should not harm such a man. Likewise, in the modernized soliloquy, the singer named
Mac–Beth Glamis wants to sabotage a dancer (Isadora Duncan) who is competing in the same

Act 1 scene 7 is very important in the whole of the play because the string of murders started here,
and what Macbeth and Lady Macbeth wanted to do was accomplished. This was the scene in which

He ends his soliloquy by stating that only "vaulting ambition" makes him consider the evil deed;
he has no complaint against the king, which makes the murder seem doubly vile to him. He is
obviously vacillating between good and evil. The audience would react differently to how Macbeth
is like now because in this scene he is not represented as a power–hungry and heartless butcher, and
this is because he says that he doesn't want to murder Duncan but is forced into it. The audience
don't know quite how to react because sometimes Macbeth is evil but sometimes he is good. The
motivation behind Macbeth's words and actions is that he doesn't want to murder the king because
he feels that he hasn't any complaint against the king so the murder will be pointless.
The Character of Lady Macbeth
In this scene lady Macbeth is angry and is insulting and we know this because she says things
like: "Was the hope drunk / Wherein you dress'd yourself? Hath it slept since?" and she also says
that if he's going to go back on his word, he doesn't really love her, and he's a coward, no better
than the "poor cat i' the adage," who wants a fish, but doesn't want to get its feet wet. Lady Macbeth

Act 1, Scene 7 of Macbeth opens with an aside from Macbeth himself. He discusses the upcoming
murder of Duncan, and through Shakespeare's diction he shows that Macbeth is clearly aware of
evil, is knowledgeable about the consequences that the murder would create (Discusses
consequences from lines 1 to 10), and the depths of his dark desires (Lines 6 to 7 states that he
would risk eternal damnation to be king). Lines 8 to 9 are the first of many lines to link blood to
guilt and cosmic retribution. Blood is a recurring motif throughout the play. The mention of the
'poisoned chalice' in line 11 foreshadows Duncan's murder and is one of many murder–weapon
mentions. In Macbeth's aside metaphors are strongly used to create a stronger effect on the reader;

It is interesting to consider the language used in Macbeth's aside. Although he is seen as evil, the
eloquent way in which he expresses his dark desires could be seen as giving a more human side. His
intelligence and awareness may be considered as Shakespeare giving him more humane attributes,
but leaves the reader questioning why someone so intelligent may commit such an atrocious crime.
Clothing metaphors are used in lines 32 to 36.This is a reoccurring feature of the play, and are
often used in regards to Macbeth and his rise to power. In this instance Macbeth describes people's

In act one and act two of Macbeth the urge for power is constant. Starting with the witches telling
Macbeth he will become king and ending with Macbeth becoming the King. There's always one
factor constant in each of these happenings, and that is Lady Macbeth. Without Lady Macbeth

The opening scene sets the atmosphere of physical conflict because when the second witch says that
the witches will meet next "when the battle's lost and won.", it implies that there is some kind of
war/battle going on as the witches speak. This is proven true in Act 1, Scene 2, when Macbeth,
Duncan, Malcolm and other characters talk about Scotland winning a battle to Norway. As for moral
conflict, the last line "Fair is foul, foul is fair, hover through the fog and filthy air." represents the
internal confusion between right and wrong they will try to instill in Macbeth in Act 1, Scene 3.
How does this scene create suspense? The first scene gives the witches a sense of suspense and
uniesiness that follows them thruought the play. The foul weather is one indication of such a
feeling. This first presentation of the witches is during a storm, as will be their next meeting. Storms
are usually associated with fear and uncertainty of what can happen, therefore generating suspense.
Shakespeare was also known for starting plays with scenes that will grasp the audience's attention,
whether it had elements of power, violence, or in this case, the supernatural. That is exactly what
witches are, supernatural beings that use magic and other otherworldly methods to achieve their
usually ill–meaning goal. These witches' intentions aren't presented clearly; they just

Macbeth's Soliloquy Act 1 Scene 7 Macbeth is very uncomfortable doing guilt worthy task. In this
soliloquy, he is trying to comfort himself. "If the assassination could trammel up the consequence,

The Development of Macbeth's Character in Act One
Macbeth is a tragic hero, comfortable in the role of a warrior. Act One of this play shows us the
decline of Macbeth's character as it develops from a heroic warrior to a ruthless murderer. His
ambitious nature is exposed when his destiny is revealed. Shakespeare examines the boundaries of

He is a successful, loyal soldier, who is comfortable in this noble role. Even though the audience
can see that he is comfortable, we can observe in the oxymoron of "weak" and "brave" that
something is wrong. The oxymoron suggests both a weakness in Macbeth, and that conflict is
within him. Even though this might be true, the viewers find that he deserves the role of a warrior.
From this we can also consider that in the future he might have a role he does not deserve, because
his current role suits him better than any other would. We can see he is worthy of his warrior status,
"Distaining Fortune, with his brandished steel." Here the audience can see Macbeth's desire for
control in the personification of Fortune. As Macbeth "carves out his passage" in the battlefield, he
does the same with his destiny. He controls it and cheats it, showing his like for power. This suggests
that in the future he will want to control his destiny again, instead of letting it happen normally. His
impatient nature shines through at this point, and is a weakness to him. This impatience could bring

Summary: In Scene 7, Macbeth meets Siward and is forced to duel. He is still confident in the

This play is set mainly in Scotland during the eleventh century following the conclusion of a war in
which Scotland is victorious over Norway ("Macbeth, King of Scotland"). Act One begins with three
witches meeting in an unknown and desolate place amongst thunder and lightning where an
