The document discusses initiatives taken at a school to reduce water wastage. Students were throwing away partially consumed water bottles and refilling them with cold water. To address this, buckets were placed next to water coolers for students to pour leftover water. Posters encouraged the practice. Water monitors also checked for leaky taps. A hand sanitizer was created to reduce water used by young students washing hands. Further awareness efforts like bulletin boards and parent circulars helped sensitize more people. As a result, the school was able to significantly curb water wastage.
3. WHAT IF THERE WAS NO WATER
LEFT ON THE PLANET?
Many people do not have
access to safe drinking
water.
Even then, many of us
continue to waste a large
amount of water on a daily
basis.
7. Stop students from
wasting water
MISSI N
Stop Bottle
Wastage
Summers are a time when
students waste a lot of water.
As the water in their bottles
turns warm due to the heat,
they throw it away to fill it with
cold water.
The result – a lot of water that
can be used for other purposes
is wasted.

that has turned warm due to the heat.

the water cooler.
9. To curb this wastage, a bucket was kept beside
the water cooler. The students could throw the
water they did not want to drink in this bucket.

Water
Monitors
The water monitors ensured
that the students threw water in
the buckets.
They checked the school for any
leaking taps or faucets. If any
tap/faucet was found leaking, it
was duly brought to the notice
of the administration.
This further helped curb wastage
of water in school.

Making a Hand
Sanitizer
A lot of water gets wasted as
young children try to wash
their hands, especially primary
school students.
Using a hand sanitizer could
be a solution to this problem.
A simple, easy-to-make hand
sanitizer was developed.
15. MISSI N
Spread The Word
To further spread the word,
the team created a bulletin
board on the cause in the
school.
The board comprised several
posters that sensitised toward
the cause.
More students joined the
cause.
16. MISSI N
Involve The Parents
Having mobilised the
students, the team involved
the parents too.
Circulars were distributed in
senior and junior classes.
These circulars apprised the
parents of water saving
activities in the school.
The circulars also included a
small survey that the
parents were asked to fill in
and rreturn. Some of the survey forms filled by the
parents.
17. THE RESULTS
Students stopped wasting water in their bottles. The water they
threw was used for miscellaneous purposes as watering plants or
mopping the floor.
Leaky faucets and taps were checked and corrected.
A hand sanitizer was created for primary school students who
waste water when washing hands.
Awareness activities as creating bulletin boards and distribution of
circulars further helped sensitize the audience.
In the end, wastage of water in school could be curbed to a great
extent.
