Intuition Vs. Rational Intuition
Intuition – the ability to understand what is happening instantly and outside conscious control,
without the need for conscious reasoning and argument. Mystical intuition understood as the
knowledge gained from the higher powers, rational intuition based on experience and is opposed to
reasoning deployed discursive thought.
Making a decision, more men are turning to the head, and intuitive solution for them where
everything is clear at once, without much consideration. Women are more likely to live feelings and
body, and intuitive solution for them is that they themselves feel comfortable, after the adoption of
which they become internally calm and comfortable.
When your intuition refers to the wise, experienced man – listen to him. Intuition How to Fold,
unconscious reasoning, intuition as an indicator of experience and professionalism – a matter of
respect.
At the very beginning of the new situation thinking occurs in the expanded and conscious, in the
form of reasoning. Mastering the situation, repeating over and over again, the arguments are more
concise and less conscious. If this internal argument quite succinctly, already unconscious and runs
without tension, easy, amid the usual relaxation, says people often do not hesitate to sometimes
cause a loss for intermediates reasoning and referring simply on intuition. That is – to have
unconsciously internalized experience.

Transcendentalism : Human Senses And Intuition
Transcendentalism: Introduction: Transcendentalism evolves around three main points: human
senses/intuition, nature, and God, humanity, and nature united. One of the main points I will be
talking about, is human senses/intuition. The reason I have chosen this point, is because there's so
much to learn about it. The other points are just as important, but this one speaks out more to me.
Why? It speaks out to me, because people may not realize how important they are. Human senses
are used in everyday life, and they are very important in transcendentalism. Human senses are very
important in transcendentalism. Just in case you don't know the human senses, they are: smelling,
hearing, tasting, feeling, and seeing. The reason why human senses are important is because in order
to create the physical world, you have to have senses. If we didn't have the senses we have, then we
wouldn't be able to say anything about the world we live in. "Senses, reason, logic, or laws of
science– that which enables us to create science and technology and to understand the concrete, the
physical world. Intuition–that which enables us to know the existence of our own souls and their
relation to a reality beyond the physical world and to understand the abstract. The faculty of
knowing without relying solely on the senses. Concrete–having physical, material reality which can
be perceived by the senses. Abstract–not having physical, material reality, is not perceivable by the
senses." The words in

Is Imagination an Essential Part of Intuition?
Imagination is a way of knowing which is defined as the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or
images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses. It could be seen as a vital part of
intuition however others may say that they have no correlation to one another. Intuition is the ability
to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning – similar to
imagination – it is a way of knowing. Throughout this essay I will be evaluating, comparing and
contrasting imagination in relation to intuition. I will also be concluding with my own inputs and
ideas. Some may argue that imagination is a very important part of intuition. Intuition is seen as a
form of knowledge – or more specifically speaking, a form of innate knowledge. It also has a
connection to ethics and instinct, for example knowing, in a situation, what the correct or incorrect
thing to do is. They may impose the question "How would we know what to do in an immediate
situation if we have never experienced it?" This is where imagination would come into play.
Imagination has a part in intuition as it allows us to create scenarios in our minds, even if we aren't
always necessarily aware of them. This is because imagination is associated with creativity, problem
solving and originality. This helps us land on conclusions as to what will happen if you do the 'right'
thing and what would happen if you don't. It allows us to make the connections between the
consequences and our

Rigor, Intuition, And Inspiration
Rigor, intuition, and inspiration: who my Trigonometry teacher was and how he influenced me
The first day after class I didn't like Dr. Olson. He not only seemed to have a dark outlook on the
following semester that first day but also seemed to make pre cal trig, what I had anticipated as a
daring test of my dearly held math abilities, even more complicated than I originally thought. His
grading system itself I couldn't understand; how was he going to teach me trigonometry? There he
stood though, large and, to make matters worse, rather awkward in his first appearance to the class.
He commented dryly on the futility of enforcing attendance policies before, without any greater
energy, moved on to further dissect his intricate grading plan and anticipated difficulty levels of the
course. He ended that day's class with "May God bless you in whatever way possible...see you
Thursday". At which point, I couldn't decide if I should be frightened of him or laugh about him or
both. I went home that night bemoaning my new professor to my friends and family, unaware I
would not only find a friend in Dr. Olson but also be influenced by his work ethic, rigorous
admonitions, and theoretical teaching style. Dr. Olson was highly influential to me because he
reinforced mental disciplines needed to succeed, approached problems with an engaged and multi–
angled approach, and whet my appetite for more abstract concepts.
When I signed up for pre calculus trigonometry with Dr. Olson I was just as

Our young INFJ begins to appear dreamy and introspective – he begins to prefer to use his iNtuition
to take in information, and he chooses to do this alone (Introverted). The dominant function of
"Introverted iNtuition" begins to show itself as the prevailing aspect of his personality. From 12 – 20
years The auxiliary function asserts itself as a powerful support to the dominant function. Since all
recent studies point towards the importance of a well–developed team of dominant AND auxiliary
functions, this is an important time of "self–identification". Research suggests that people without a
strong auxiliary function to complement their dominant function have real problems. From 20 – 35
years We begin to use our tertiary function more frequently and with better success. Our INFJ
begins to use his Introverted Thinking function. He continues to make judgments with his
Extroverted Feeling auxiliary function, but he also begins to make judgments based on logic and
reason, which he works through in his own mind, rather than discussing it with others. From 35 – 50
years We pay attention to our fourth, inferior function. We feel a need to develop it and use it more
effectively. Our INFJ begins to use his Extraverted Sensing function. He becomes more aware of his
surroundings and begins to take in information from others in a more literal, practical sense. He
continues to rely on his dominant Introverted iNtuitive function to take in information, but he is
more able to use his Extraverted Sensing function than he has been before in his life. Some
researchers have attested that the appearance of our inferior functions at this phase of life may be
responsible for what we commonly call the "mid–life crisis".From 50 onwards From this age until
our deaths, we have accessibility to all four functions. However, we use them in a more disciplined,
differentiated manner than when we were very young. Our

Instinct And Intuition
Instinct is a natural or intuitive way of acting and thinking. For the purposes of this essay, instinct
and intuition will be considered one and the same, since the definition of one includes the other.
Instinct gives us the ability to understand something without needing conscious reasoning or logical
thinking. Sometimes described as a "gut feeling", intuition helps us make a decision by giving us a
seemingly unexplainable or even illogical answer. This answer is based on our past experiences and
existing knowledge. When using instinct, the person accesses the knowledge he already has and
makes a guess that feels right. This guess might seem like it did not involve logic or reasoning but
that can only be said about conscious and deliberate reasoning. It means that the subconscious does
the work for the person and in the end gives him an intuitive or instinctive solution to the problem.
Although instinct requires other ways of knowing, such as memory and logic, for it to come in
effect, it can also successfully lead to discoveries on its own. By interacting with other ways of
knowing, instinct not only serves as a base for different areas of knowing, such as religion, but also
advances the progress in more specific and strict areas of knowing, like mathematics. ... Show more

Most would say that it only involves reason and there is no creativity, imagination or intuition to it
at all. However, there are several instances in mathematics when intuition serves as a way to make
progress and innovation. The French mathematician, theoretical physicist, engineer, and philosopher
of science Henri Poincare, for example, described two types of mathematicians in his article
"Intuition and Logic in mathematics". One was preoccupied with logic, while the other was guided
by intuition. Poincare also provides an

Intuition By Marilyn Vos Savant
Christopher states how people tend to rely on their intuition, he believes that this often leads the
person to the wrong answer. In lieu of this Christopher says that logic will undoubtedly bring you to
the correct answer. His example of this was the Month Hall math problem. This consisted of a game
show in which you are asked to chose a door, this could either lead to her winning a car or a goat.
There are three doors, the hosts knows which door is hiding the car. The person chooses a door, so
the hosts what's behind a different door and reveals a goat. At this point most people might go
with their gut feeling (intuition) but this is an event in which someone should use logic. Marilyn vos
Savant used logic to solve this problem, she was criticised by multiple mathematicians, scientists,
etc. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many parents often tell their young ones to go with their gut feeling because for some reason your
gut feeling is always right. This could be the case for many situations but there is no real proof that
your gut feeling will always be correct. I have a personal anecdote that highlights this idea of
intuition vs. logic. As a person who is very passionate about my soccer and track career, I try to take
care of my legs, ankles, and body to best of my ability. I've broken my ankle and leg many times,
most of these times were not my fault. About three or four years ago I was out skating with a group
of friends, there was a specific trick that I had tried before that had given me minor injuries. The
same week I had an important soccer tournament, I knew I could possibly hurt myself but I chose to
do it anyways. I ended up fracturing my tibia and breaking my ankle. I had to have a cast for a total
of about three months. I definitely regret going with my gut feeling and in hindsight it would have
been way smarter to choose the more logical

Gut Emotions Or Intuition?
Intuition is a form of an unconscious thinking that just pops up whenever a situation presents itself
without us having to do much to change or influence its perception on situations.
Generally speaking, intuitive decisions are illogical and cannot be validated for they are often driven
by external forces such as luck, fate or a spiritual being, and are not always based on rational
reasoning. For these, intuition tells us that we know things without having us to know why we know
these things. It dictate a person's feelings, thoughts, associations, and often could be biased towards
a particular subject. Thus, it is not always wise to rely on our natural "gut feelings" or intuition
because it could distance us from our analytical mindset, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This shows how gut feelings could lead to biased and judgmental reactions. And only after we take a
step back to thoroughly process the information and weigh out the consequences of our reaction,
should we make impactful decisions in some situations, like when a single mum of four that has
recently lost her job stole some fruits from a fruit stand to feed her hungry children who have not
eaten in some days. Yes, the gut might say that stealing is wrong, but that alone should not be the
only basis to why stealing is wrong. When we do as our gut wills, we make decisions without much
considerations, without having enough information to support our argument, without thinking that
there might be other better options and reasons to buttress our initial gut feeling, and without ever
thinking that we could be wrong somehow.
Not only do intuitions at times deem us to be judgmental and biased, it sometimes removes "making
sense" from our thoughts even though we might have good ideas, but instead lead us to making
unnecessary and irrelevant points, like how Todd Staples' reasons to outlawing "Meatless Mondays"
were, although convincing on the outside, erroneous and fallacious sentence by sentence when

Examples Of Intuition Modality In Romeo And Juliet
Mercutio exhibits the intuition modality in the Myer Briggs personality type through his actions
portrayed in the play, Romeo, and Juliet by William Shakespeare. A person who is intuitive has
abstract ideas, looks for deeper meaning, they look at the big picture, and they are imaginative. In
the beginning of Act two Mercutio is informed that Tybalt has sent a letter to Romeo challenging
him, to which Mercutio responds,"He is already dead, stabbed with a white/ wench's black eye, shot
through the ear with love song/ the very in of his heart cleft with the blind bow–boy's butt shaft"
(2.4.13–16). Through the quote, the reader is given an insight of Mercutio's intuition modality of
being an imaginative person by the way he interprets information ... Show more content on

A person who is intuitive looks for deeper meaning, they look at the big picture, and they are

heartbroken because he is in love with someone that does not love him back; Benvolio admits"Alas,
that love, so gentle in his view/ Should be so tyrannous and rough in proof" (1.1.62––63) People
who are intuitive they tend to look at the bigger picture of ideas rather than seeing the small details
that come with it. Benvolio illustrates this with his conversation with Romeo because he sees love
"so gentle" (1.4.162) before but now he is seeing it as a rough experience. He does not mention that
love can be rough but gentle with someone at the time, it is able to make joyous memories and bring
happiness to someone. Moreover, in the beginning of the story, Benvolio is trying to convince
Romeo to go to the masquerade ball held by the Capulets' to find other beautiful women to lay his
eyes on to heal his broken heart. Romeo is hesitant at first to which Benvolio explains that "one pain
is lessened by another's anguish/Turn giddy, and be helped by backward turning/ One desperate
grief cures with another's languish," (1.2.46––48). His solution for Romeo exhibits the characteristic
of looking for deeper meaning; he is wanting Romeo to repair his broken self, he is explaining how
to forget the other pain is for a new distraction to come, a grief becomes old when a new grief

Scientific Mind, Imagination & Intuition
Scientific Mind
The concept of mind is understood in many different ways by many different cultural and religious
traditions. Some see mind as a property exclusive to humans whereas others ascribe properties of
mind to non–living entities to animals and to deities. Some of the earliest recorded speculations
linked mind (sometimes described as identical with soul or spirit) to theories concerning both life
after death, and cosmological and natural order, for example in the doctrines of Zoroaster, the
Buddha, Plato, Aristotle, and other ancient Greek, Indian and, later, Islamic and medieval European
philosophers.

The Power of Intuition, At It's Worst
Prior to the miniscule reign of Macbeth, countless people were murdered. This included everyone
that threatened Macbeth emotionally and also everyone in relation to that character. For instance,
when Macbeth had Duncan killed Malcolm and Donalbain (Duncan's sons) fled. Likewise when he
had the murderers kill Banquo, Banquo's son Fleance managed to escape. The last person to worry
about was Macduff. Although he could not kill Macduff, due to his conciliation in England, he did
go after everyone that resided in his home. This concluded Macbeth's "thought out" plan to become
King. However, the blood from these innocent families brought only guilt to Macbeth's conscience;
so why did he do it? Many say that he was driven by Lady ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The paranoia that he was experiencing just acts as a symptom of the "drug".
After the deaths of Duncan and Banquo there was only one more person that Macbeth had to worry
about. Macduff was the only other nobleman that Macbeth desired to throw out of the echelons.
When Macbeth was presented with this problem it was very difficult to execute. This task was hard
because Macduff fled to England to take himself out of what seemed to be a never ending death raid
(*)
Before Macbeth made his move on Macduff he had to return to the witches for more advice. To
Macbeth's surprise the witches had an unknown power that he had never experienced before. Right
before Macbeth's eyes an apparition appeared and said, "Macbeth, Macbeth, Macbeth, Beware
Macduff. / Beware the Thane of Fife" (4.1.81–2). This quickly exacerbated Macbeth's thoughts
about Macduff. Though things were not looking to good the second apparition appeared. This
apparition in the form of a bloody child said, "Be bloody, bold, and resolute. Laugh to scorn/ The
power of man, for none of a woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth" (4.1.90–2). At this point Macbeth is
feeling as though he has a shot at becoming King. With his confidence boosted he wants to know
more, thus the third apparition appears. The crowned child with a tree in hand said, "Macbeth shall
never vanquished be until/ Great Birnham Wood to high Dunsinane Hill/ Shall come against him"
(4.1.105–7). Shortly after the

Invisible Gorilla Intuitions
In the novel The Invisible Gorilla: How our Intuitions Deceive Us by Christopher Chabris and
Daniel Simons, a deeper way of how the mind works is shown. The authors explain what they call
the "illusion of attention" by providing experiments and illustrations. The message being passed is
that we as humans might think we are always aware of our surroundings, but we actually miss what
is right in front of us. People usually focus on one thing at a time, therefore the unexpected goes
unnoticed. The book explains how the brain only focuses on the object or area you are concentrating
on, making you "blind" to everything else. Many experiments were held to prove to the readers that
our intuition deceives us. In the most famous experiment, the invisible gorilla, showed how
oblivious we can be. To start off, people were asked to count how many passes between the players
in white shirts had, ignoring the players in the black shirts. For half of the participants, a giant
gorilla walked onto the court without anyone noticing. A monstrous, distinct gorilla was gone
unnoticed because it was not expected or focused on. This experiment proves to us as readers that
our minds put us in situations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

actively speaking out against vaccines. In this situation, the chances of her being correct are very
slim. This tragic event caused her to think that vaccines cause autism, and made her blind to all of
the benefits. Although this is not true, people began to believe Jenny's stance and support her. This

Pure Intuition, By Immanuel Kant
Math, to Kant is synthetic because mathematical knowledge requires is true more than just
definition. "All bachelors are unmarried" is analytic; "the bachelor down the street is untidy" is
synthetic. This may seem odd; "1+2 = 3" seems to be analytic, as 2 is the sum of 1 and 1 by
definition. Nevertheless this is illusory, according to Kant, because this is already a solved equation.
When we look at an unsolved equation, we are presented with a problem. Take, for example 1+2
alone. We do not know what the sum of 1 and 2 are, just that their sum constitutes a number. We
then must solve the equation using our intuition, or capacity to reason to come upon the answer, 3.
The answer to the equation is not initially contained in the equation in question. If it were, then there

This may seem peculiar at first, as Kant previously defines intuition as sense–perception. How, one
may ask, could one perceive without sensation? Kant explains that sensory intuition helps us
visualise physical objects, while pure intuition helps us visualise abstractions– this means we are
capable of visualisation objects before their actual experience. Although this may seem peculiar,
this, Kant explains, is because when we intuit something, we only intuit our own perceptions: we
cannot comprehend things in themselves, or what he called in Critique of Pure Reason "noumena".
Otherwise, all our intuitions would be empirical, and such pure mathematics would not be possible:
we could simply see things as they really are, and we would not resort to abstracting relationships
between concepts as we do in mathematics. What we perceive are our own understandings and ideas
of objects; to understand them as they really are is not just impossible, but we could not even
comprehend what it would be

Theory Application to Nursing Practice: Intuition
Through an understanding of each of the outlined theories, intuition seems most applicable to
nursing practice. In reflection, nursing students have a minimal but developing level of clinical
experience. While intuition is based from past experiences, emotions, and behaviours, another
important factor is the perception of the situation; it is the perception or feeling of something being
wrong that will instigate intuition (Holm & Severinsson 2016, pp. 412–3). While having experience
will provide a wider range of decision–making abilities in a situation, it is first identifying that
something is wrong, reading the cues and having a physical sensation to act on; despite other signs

can be applied to clinical practice with examples of its use and the importance of its
implementation. Lastly, the paper investigated the different complexities, contradictions, and
inconsistencies that could be identified between the three theories. It clearly outlined their
differences and provided an argument of how they can be utilised in different cases despite the listed
differences that may not make each theory suitable for application with each other. In closing, this
paper has comprehensively discussed and explored three decision–making theories in a nursing

Intuitions Role in the Giant Spectrum

Intuition. With intuitional decision–making there is no need for conscious reasoning as intuition

conscious reasoning. It is the last segment of that definition which brings about reasonable doubt to
the idea of intuitions effectiveness. As it is a perception of the truth in which the heart and the
neurological system communicate, and release a sense of apprehension or a sense of rightness
without a reasonable sense of doubt. It is an age old open that certain situations should not involve

arbitrary to many, intuition is a cultural practice to others. In the Eastern culture emphasis is placed
on intuition. In the Western culture emphasis is placed on cognition. There is this idea in the Eastern
culture that the rawness of intuition can be fine tuned in order to create monumental decision
making skills in the future; though one cannot just dismiss intuitional feelings. For example in the
Easter culture, Buddhism is a practice in which the mind is clear from the things in which it

Rip Van Winkle Intuition
The story "Rip Van Winkle" holds tons of American Romanticism elements as if it's a chest for
them. To the naked eye, it might be difficult to see. With the naked eye and some close reading
though, it's lesser of a problem. This story elaborates the elements with the introduction of Rip Van
Winkle, and a piece of his life. From his pain of a wife and companion as a dog, to the drink with
the gnomes that induced him into a deep–sleep, it will reveal plenty of elements that correlate well
with each other in the manner of literature and the make believe of fiction.
One element in "Rip Van Winkle" is feeling and intuition. Feeling and intuition flow throughout this
story as one of the most utilized elements. "Rip Van Winkle" included plenty of instances; it isn't
hard to miss. For example, Rip Van Winkle "assisted at their sports, made their playthings, taught ...

Rip Van Winkle went through a drastic habitat change. He lost his home, wife, and all his old friends
while he was left behind. He 'slept' for 20 years. Sounds pretty imaginative to me. For example, the
author scribed, "the constant recurrence of this gesture induced Rip involuntarily to do the same,
when to his astonishment he found his beard had grown a foot long." This quote describes how Rip
Van Winkle discovered his beard was 1 foot longer than before his deep slumber. How is this
possible? Simply, it is not possible. It is pure imagination. This led from one thing to the next. For
example, as Rip was contemplating whether he was real or not, "I'm not myself, I'm somebody else–
that's me– yonder–no–that's somebody else got into my shoes–I was myself last night." He
hysterically said these things in response to the disbelief of his grown beard, rusty firelock, and
grimy face. He wonders where the time went, because he knew who he was before he slept, and
now that he has awoken, he doesn't know what to

Judgements Made Based on Intuition

"Ways of knowing are a check on our instinctive judgments." To what extent do you agree with this
statement? Often times, when people can't form a logical reason for certain things they did, their
justification is "because I had a gut feeling". Indeed, people sometimes make judgments based on
their gut feelings, or intuition. It is a very subjective and interesting way to gain knowledge. Our
intuition can trick us into traps in which we never thought we would fall; it can also lead us to bold,
unconventional decisions which bring us truth and knowledge. Our instinctive judgments often
become more justifiable when they are "checked", or verified, by other ways of knowing. Before I

Some might say, our sense perception does lead us to justifiable instinctive judgments, because the
knowledge we gain through it about others' appearances does reflect their personality. This is only
true to a certain extent. If our instinctive judgments can really be checked by sense perception or
intuition, then why did some couples who claim to have experienced a "love at first sight" end up
falling apart? Because their relationships lack to be "checked" by the most important factor –
reason. How long would a relationship last really depends on knowledge gained by reasoning, such
as how well the couple's would view and value match each other's; how their personalities are
complementary, etc. A couple knows their first instinct is right when they decide they are indeed the
right ones for each other by logically reasoning out their compatibility. Therefore, reason is
ultimately the "check" on our instinctive judgments. To what extent can we rely on our emotion to
make good choices at crisis instinctively? Ethical decisions are often to be made in situations where
we don't have enough time nor a clear, conscious mind to make the best judgments, and these
decisions made without logical reasoning are intuitive judgments. The man who paid a heavy price
for making an irresponsible ethical decision was the captain of the capsized South Korea ferry. He
abandoned his passengers and prioritized his own life at the

The Value Of Reasoning And Intuition
Although it 's of value, and in some cases imperative, to listen to one 's intuitions, it is not always
beneficial or healthy to do so when presented with a moral question. It most certainly does not
benefit an individual or others to blindly trust the immediate answers that leap into our minds when
posed with a moral consideration. Consider the value of reasoning and intuition in the broad scope.
To feel is live, but to think is live as well. Our experiences are shaped by how we feel and what we
think. One needs to think about their feelings just as one needs to feel. It is this act of conscious
living that gives meaning to our experiences and helps us interact with others. To understand why it
's valuable to evaluate this relationship, it is essential to wrap our minds around the functions of
morals and reasoning. Morals refer to ones own principles of right or wrong. Moral feeling is a
personal internal response. There is a difference between feeling and reasoning. When reasoning, we
use our reflective capabilities to understand and think in abstract terms. This process involves
consideration of information we have yet to consider, to think outside our de facto and scripted
responses to feeling. When we consider the discussions and readings in this course, many, thus far,
involve a moral question. The questions, such as the consideration of Billy and Suzy produce a
feeling in response, typically this feeling involves a certitude or judgment. This feeling is not

Introduction
This paper discusses how intuition, perspective abilities, and professional skills in doing a job, are
what organizations depend on. Instinct shapes many of our choices and actions in the workplace
helping us make decisions from within. It includes using observational skills, analysis and past
experiences to anticipate needs and questions. Workplaces are shifting from task oriented
environments to requiring more multifaceted problem solving skills. The way that business leaders
made decisions in the past is no longer a guide to making future decisions. Embracing the intuitive
approach that goes beyond customary reasoning alone is fast becoming a crucial business practice.
Such complexity allows for creativity and becomes a great tool for decision making in every
profession as well as in everyday life. The predictive ability produces the skill to trust your instant
gut feeling, ultimately leading your business and professional success. The trick is when to know to
go with your gut feeling. With improved perspective abilities and with better anticipation of other's
needs, the ability to make better decisions becomes more effective with interactions comes naturally.
Ultimately, sharper instincts will help the advancement of anyone's career.

The Causes Of Intuitions In The Animal Kingdom
In the animal kingdom, each animal has different intuitions. Several inclinations are similar
throughout the distinct creatures like survival and protection. In the animal kingdom, all animals
have evolved and kept the "good" traits that have kept them alive so far. The impulses of security
and survival are not limited to animals, but also are human's instincts. It comes from the primitive
side of all people, the side that is more connected to the animal inside the being.
Even with how sophisticated and developed humans have become, people are still in touch with
their primal instincts that have led the generations before to survive and pass down those urges. The
predisposition that is passed down is the protection of self and then the family. In nature, a lion
mother would do anything to save her cub from trouble. The mother is very protective of her kin.
First, the lion mother needs to get out of harm's way to be able to help her children but would jump
in front of danger if her little one was threatened.
Regarding the mother lion, the mother of the client, criminal, is as protective of her son and is
willing to commit a federal crime to do it. As a protective mechanism, people lie to protect
themselves from the consequences that would come if the truth was found. Lying is a natural
instinct in the human behavior. Most people have lied at least once in their life to save themselves
from being punished. The majority of citizens do not enjoy having punishments that are

Essay On Intuition
Using your intuition about everyday behavior is insufficient for a complete understanding of the
causes of human behavior. Discuss
Relying on ones intuition is an inaccurate way of deciding on the causes of a person's behavior. A
person behavior is normally shaped by past experiences, culture, education or genes. Hence intuition
is not an adequate means by which one can assess the behavioral pattern of an individual. Scholars,
over the years, have explored this phenomenon of what influences our behavior and have shown that
intuition is not adequate enough to explain behavior. In this paper, discussion will surround factors
that explain the causes of behavior which are exhibited on a daily basis.

However, only a few atmosphere–related studies have considered the role of ambient scent and its
impact on consumer behavior (Chebat & Michon, 2003; Turley & Milliman, 2000). Many readers
can relate to this based on these finding in that, once our senses begin to work then that trigger our
behaviors. Whether it is to run away because we sense a threat or either we pull closer and buy a
product because we sense a favorable condition. Either way, the senses have illicit the behavior.
We often times wonder why we begin to salivate after we smell food or why we begin to get
nervous before an interview. Even though we are not accounting for each of the processes, they are
still occurring in our bodies. Without these systems and processes, we would not be able to function
properly on a day to day basis. In essence, sensation not only provides us with favorable choices but
also act as a protector to us so we can stay away from harm. Persons living in dangerous situation
are sensitized to the atmosphere which can be a benefit and harm to them. It is beneficial in the
sense that being familiar through sensation adoption will allow one to protect themselves from
harmful substances and setting because they were sensitize. On the other hand, being sensitize to
something one may not be aware that is harmful from example being expose to a toxic gas. As a
result, individuals might be slowly be affected and do not know it.

Summary Of The Sensemaking-Intuition Model
According to the author of the Sensemaking–Intuition Model, I think the fundamental problems
with classical ethical decision–making models are lacks a sufficient theoretical basis for
conceptualizing experience. The model focuses on results on a list of critical analysis. However, it
doesn't represent the clear definition of ethics found on those theoretical approaches. Since we knew
unethical decisions can have a negative affect on the decision makers as well as others, whereas
ethical decisions may have the opposite effect. We can understand that the Sensemaking–Intuition
Model is a behavior assumed on a dual scale of "collective vs. individual." In other words, it is
saying that all ethical decisions can be evaluate on a scale of individual

Mcgilchrist's Innsaei: The Power Of Intuition
On a Friday night, I was sitting in a nice and cozy bed browsing through documentaries on Netflix

documentary titled "Innsaei: The Power of Intuition". I was not all that familiar with the topic and
this was not a documentary that I would normally pick out. So, I embarked on a journey to watch a
compelling and emotive documentary about what intuition is, how we have lost touch with our
intuition, and some ideas on how we can encourage the further growth of intuition in society. I first

more mindfulness that we put forward into the world, the more likely we will see these practices in
use in the future. The more fear based media that is put out in the world, the more likely that [we
will see this] in the future. Imagine we are made of two rhythms, one breaths in the other breaths

Difference Between Instinct And Intuition
Responding to the smile of a baby, jumping–up when startled by a sudden sound, or even pulling
your hand away from a hot fire are all examples of instinctive behaviour; instinct does not involve
thought but is an automatic, evolutionary response to external stimuli. Instinctive judgements are
more intuitive in nature but though related, in terms of both not involving conscious thought,
instinct and intuition are not the same. Intuition is based on subconscious thought; a pattern
recognized by the brain based on, for instance, past experiences, whereas instinctive judgements
appear to be independent of experience or rational thought. As a student of psychology, I like to
make the distinction that instinct is a behavioural process while intuition is a cognitive, but
subconscious, process. The term 'judgement' used in the above TOKstatement implies taking an
objective or considered decision based on instinct alone rather than on conscious, rational thought. I
believe the absence of conscious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the cognitive scientist and psychologist, Steven Pinker , argues that all thought is
composed prior to its linguistic form. In his book, The Language Instinct, he talks about how
children learn language instinctively, without the need for complex thought and analysis, and feels
that ways of knowing, such as the use of reason to understand grammar rules, actually slows down
the process of language learning. On the other hand, linguistic determinism states that knowledge is
shaped by language and is a cultural construct; people of different languages have different thought
processes. Demonstrating this latter view, a situation, albeit fictional, where language limits
instinctive judgements, can be seen in the success of "Newspeak", the state imposed language in
George Orwell's 1984 , that prevented people from even thinking critically of the

Intuition in A Jury of Her Peers Essay
Intuition in A Jury of Her Peers
Though men and women are now recognized as generally equal in talent and intelligence, when
Susan Glaspell wrote "A Jury of Her Peers" in 1917, it was not so. In this turn–of–the–century, rural
midwestern setting, women were often barely educated and possessed virtually no political or
economic power. And, being the "weaker sex," there was not much they could do about it. Relegated
to home and hearth, women found themselves at the mercy of the more powerful men in their lives.
Ironically, it is just this type of powerless existence, perhaps, that over the ages developed into a
power with which women could baffle and frustrate their male counterparts: a sixth sense – an
inborn trait ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For while the men are looking actively for the "smoking gun," the women are confronted with more
subtle clues in spite of themselves and even try to hide from each other what they intuitively know.
But they do not fool each other for long, as Glaspell describes, "Their eyes met – something flashed
to life, passed between them; then, as if with an effort, they seemed to pull away from each other"
(295). However, they cannot pull away, for they are bound by a power they do not even
comprehend: "We all go through the same things – it's all just a different kind of the same
thing!...why do you and I understand? Why do we know – what we know this minute?" (303). They
do not realize that it is intuition they share, that causes them to "[see] into things, [to see] through a
thing to something else...." (294). Though sympathetic to Minnie Wright, the women cannot deny
the damning clues that lead them to the inescapable conclusion of her guilt.
If it is ironic that the women find the clues, it is even more ironic that they find them in the mundane
household items to which the men attribute so little significance. "Nothing here but kitchen things,"
the men mistakenly think (287). Because of their weak intuition, they do not see the household as
indicative of John's and Minnie's characters. They do not see beyond the cheerless home to John
Wright's grim nature, nor do the dilapidated furnishings provide

Chaucer's Intuitions
"I could end this with a moral, as if this were a fable about animals, though no fables are really
about animals", spoken by Margaret Atwood. A fable is a short story with a moral and non–human
characters personified to do human actions.
Chaucer uses his exigence of intuition to create a moral, through rhetoric. Chanticleer dreams of the
fox, "Of arrows or of fire...of red beasts...of strife..." (2930–2932). The negative connotations of
"fire" and "beasts" create suspense. The polysyndeton demonstrates how Chanticleer trusts his
intuition, because of his dream. Chanticleer uses ethos to explain his intuition, "Not dream sitting in
a tree, /Which signified that hanged he was to be?" (3139–3140). Chaucer foreshadow Chanticleer
would be up a tree, by using his intuition to avoid the fox's trickery, establishing Chaucer's exigence
(Loose Syntax).

In the essays about Transcendentalism, the diction is more sophisticated, "Personal fulfillment, and
subsequently personal health and happiness, are attained by transcending the custom of one's
society" (Paragraph 2). The author uses the high–caliber diction of "subsequently", which may be
substituted with "as a result." More importantly, the essays don't take the reader on as much of a
journey, while the fables have characters, making them easier to follow (Loose Syntax). For
example, in Animal Farm, the pigs are personified through their ability to walk on two legs, and
break the Seven Commandments. These abilities result in the pigs becoming more like their human
farmer. In Animal Farm and The Nun's Priest's Tale, Orwell and Chaucer use personified animals,
which simplifies complex political problems, enabling the reader to better understand the text and

Space Is A Priori Intuition Of Transcendental Ideality
In defining space, the largest question Kant had to wrestle with was whether space was a property of
objects or a condition set in mental faculty. In order to determine this, space needed to be
established as it stands as knowledge. Kant defines space as a priori intuition of transcendental
ideality.
Kant demonstrates that our sense of space cannot come from experience. When one perceives an
object they relate the sensations that coordinate to that object a place. For example, one gets the
sensation of the color of an apple and coordinates that color to the apple and the space that the apple
occupies, in order for the apple to be red. The color red corresponds to the apple while the color of
the table it is resting on coordinates to the table, keeping to two distinct positions in space. In order
for an individual to relate an object as outside of them, they must assign them to a place. If this is
the case, then space is a necessary base to one's perception of an object. So one cannot gain the
intuition of space empirically as space is necessary to one's experience of the external world in order
to have sensibility, or the faculty to passively know objects through sensation. Space is a condition
of the perception of objects rather than a property of the objects themselves so there cannot be a
perception of the objects without space. "It is impossible to have a representation of there being no
space, though one can very well think of space without objects to fill it." (B39

Intuition, Visions, And Prophecy
Intuition, Visions and Prophecy
Clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsentience. All of these terms relate to the basic notion of
intuition. While many assume that the brain's main purpose is to serve only as a location to store
factual information, new research proves otherwise. "While the major division in the brain is that of
the cerebral hemispheres . . . sections of the left hemisphere . . . is useful for . . . the rest function for
parallel operation, which underlies spatial abilities and intuition." (Ornstein, 138) Intuition, also
known as insight or consciousness, has been referred to as "clear seeing, clear vision, clear hearing

As time progressed, more questions of the origins of vision of the past and future were considered
and studied, especially with regard to religion. King Solomon, a figure in Judaic history, supposedly
had special knowledge because of his "command over, and communion with, dark forces led by the
demon Asmodeus." (Roland, 20) He also supposedly had magical powers, which were a part of his
knowledge of the Kabbalah, "the mystical aspect of Judaism." (Roland, 20) He wrote thousands of
proverbs expressing his religious visions during his time which were incredibly influential. The
Middle East also had a mystifying ancient history involving prophecy. Zoroaster, born in
Afghanistan, is considered to be "the first prophet in history and certainly the first to preach a
monotheistic belief." (Roland, 22)
As man became more knowledgeable about prophets and his own inner wisdom, fascination with
visions increased. Specifically, there was, and still is, a desire to learn how to rekindle one's own
intuition for practical use. According to Robert Ornstein, author of The Evolution of Consciousness,
the key to adjusting our thoughts is to create "conscious control" and to simply "shift the mind into
place." He says that we possess a "third kind of evolution" that allows us to have conscious selection

Cognitive Continuum Theory: Intuition And Analysis
Cognitive continuum theory
The cognitive continuum theory for decision making involves a continuum with two ends; intuition
and analysis (Parker–Tomlin et al. 2017, p. 446). This theory presents each decision to be a task
structure (Standing 2008, p. 128). Well–structured tasks prompt a more analytical mode of decision
making (Standing 2008, p. 128). Whereas, ill–structured tasks prompt a more intuitive mode of
decision making (Standing 2008, p. 128). Both intuition and analysis are considered equal value on
the continuum (Standing 2008, p. 129). On the continuum, there are six categories of decision
making (Offredy 2008, p. 857). On one end is 'scientific experiment' which involves strong
analytical experimentation to make a decision (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Gathering, analysing and

statistics but also involves a small degree of intuition (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Mode three is called
'quasi–experimental' and involves both analysis and a person's own judgement (Offredy 2008, p.

2008, p. 858). Mode four is 'system aided judgement' which includes cognition and intuition as a
process of decision making (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Mode five, 'peer–aided judgement', suggests that
decisions are made from people acting upon data in a passive and intuitive way (Offredy 2008, p.

Difference Between Intuition And Learning
The two systems had different terms from author to author; for example; rational versus experiential
(Epstein et al., 1992), rule–based versus associative (Sloman, 1996), noetic versus experiential
(Strack & Deutsch, 2004), deliberative versus affective (Loewenstein & O'Donoghue, 2005), and
System 1 versus System 2 (Evans, 2003; Kahneman & Fredrick, 2002). These researchers do not
only used different names for each of the two systems, they also used different terms to describe
their meaning. The most frequently used terms are two–system, dual–mode, and dual–process.
These theories have in common that there are two different processing modes. The most natural
terms are system 1and system 2 modes (Evans, 2008 and (Keren & Schul, 2009). There are
differences between intuition and reasoning thoughts which have been discussed for years. These
variances have been appealed in efforts to form apparently conflicting results in judgment studies
under uncertainty (Kahneman & Frederick, 2002; Sloman, 1996, 2002; Stanovich, 1999; Stanovich
& West, 2002). Stanovich and West (2000) have been labelled these two cognitive processes system
1 and system 2 which have been agreed on by many researchers on features that discriminate the
two types from each other. The processes ofsystem 1 are emotionally charged most of the time, they
are usually fast, automatic, and effortless. They are hard to control or adjust as they are ruled by
habit. On the other hand, the processes of system 2 are

Intuition Vs. Rational Intuition

  • 1. Intuition Vs. Rational Intuition Intuition – the ability to understand what is happening instantly and outside conscious control, without the need for conscious reasoning and argument. Mystical intuition understood as the knowledge gained from the higher powers, rational intuition based on experience and is opposed to reasoning deployed discursive thought. Making a decision, more men are turning to the head, and intuitive solution for them where everything is clear at once, without much consideration. Women are more likely to live feelings and body, and intuitive solution for them is that they themselves feel comfortable, after the adoption of which they become internally calm and comfortable. When your intuition refers to the wise, experienced man – listen to him. Intuition How to Fold, unconscious reasoning, intuition as an indicator of experience and professionalism – a matter of respect. At the very beginning of the new situation thinking occurs in the expanded and conscious, in the form of reasoning. Mastering the situation, repeating over and over again, the arguments are more concise and less conscious. If this internal argument quite succinctly, already unconscious and runs without tension, easy, amid the usual relaxation, says people often do not hesitate to sometimes cause a loss for intermediates reasoning and referring simply on intuition. That is – to have unconsciously internalized experience. An experienced eye always sees more than the eye newcomer. Anyone who is engaged in something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Transcendentalism : Human Senses And Intuition Transcendentalism: Introduction: Transcendentalism evolves around three main points: human senses/intuition, nature, and God, humanity, and nature united. One of the main points I will be talking about, is human senses/intuition. The reason I have chosen this point, is because there's so much to learn about it. The other points are just as important, but this one speaks out more to me. Why? It speaks out to me, because people may not realize how important they are. Human senses are used in everyday life, and they are very important in transcendentalism. Human senses are very important in transcendentalism. Just in case you don't know the human senses, they are: smelling, hearing, tasting, feeling, and seeing. The reason why human senses are important is because in order to create the physical world, you have to have senses. If we didn't have the senses we have, then we wouldn't be able to say anything about the world we live in. "Senses, reason, logic, or laws of science– that which enables us to create science and technology and to understand the concrete, the physical world. Intuition–that which enables us to know the existence of our own souls and their relation to a reality beyond the physical world and to understand the abstract. The faculty of knowing without relying solely on the senses. Concrete–having physical, material reality which can be perceived by the senses. Abstract–not having physical, material reality, is not perceivable by the senses." The words in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Is Imagination an Essential Part of Intuition? Imagination is a way of knowing which is defined as the faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses. It could be seen as a vital part of intuition however others may say that they have no correlation to one another. Intuition is the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning – similar to imagination – it is a way of knowing. Throughout this essay I will be evaluating, comparing and contrasting imagination in relation to intuition. I will also be concluding with my own inputs and ideas. Some may argue that imagination is a very important part of intuition. Intuition is seen as a form of knowledge – or more specifically speaking, a form of innate knowledge. It also has a connection to ethics and instinct, for example knowing, in a situation, what the correct or incorrect thing to do is. They may impose the question "How would we know what to do in an immediate situation if we have never experienced it?" This is where imagination would come into play. Imagination has a part in intuition as it allows us to create scenarios in our minds, even if we aren't always necessarily aware of them. This is because imagination is associated with creativity, problem solving and originality. This helps us land on conclusions as to what will happen if you do the 'right' thing and what would happen if you don't. It allows us to make the connections between the consequences and our ... • 4. Rigor, Intuition, And Inspiration Rigor, intuition, and inspiration: who my Trigonometry teacher was and how he influenced me The first day after class I didn't like Dr. Olson. He not only seemed to have a dark outlook on the following semester that first day but also seemed to make pre cal trig, what I had anticipated as a daring test of my dearly held math abilities, even more complicated than I originally thought. His grading system itself I couldn't understand; how was he going to teach me trigonometry? There he stood though, large and, to make matters worse, rather awkward in his first appearance to the class. He commented dryly on the futility of enforcing attendance policies before, without any greater energy, moved on to further dissect his intricate grading plan and anticipated difficulty levels of the course. He ended that day's class with "May God bless you in whatever way possible...see you Thursday". At which point, I couldn't decide if I should be frightened of him or laugh about him or both. I went home that night bemoaning my new professor to my friends and family, unaware I would not only find a friend in Dr. Olson but also be influenced by his work ethic, rigorous admonitions, and theoretical teaching style. Dr. Olson was highly influential to me because he reinforced mental disciplines needed to succeed, approached problems with an engaged and multi– angled approach, and whet my appetite for more abstract concepts. When I signed up for pre calculus trigonometry with Dr. Olson I was just as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Introverted Intuition Knowing what you are seeing or hearing is sometimes an end in itself (such as when watching TV), but not often. Usually, we want to know what's going on around us so that we can specify goals and figure out how to achieve them.Knowing what you are seeing or hearing is sometimes an end in itself (such as when watching TV), but not often. Usually, we want to know what's going on around us so that we can specify goals and figure out how to achieve them.According to Carl G. Jung's approach to personality, extroversion is the tendency toward active actions as a dynamic response to the events and information from the external world. Extroverted people draw the energy for their undertakings from the outside world. The outside world is the main driver ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our young INFJ begins to appear dreamy and introspective – he begins to prefer to use his iNtuition to take in information, and he chooses to do this alone (Introverted). The dominant function of "Introverted iNtuition" begins to show itself as the prevailing aspect of his personality. From 12 – 20 years The auxiliary function asserts itself as a powerful support to the dominant function. Since all recent studies point towards the importance of a well–developed team of dominant AND auxiliary functions, this is an important time of "self–identification". Research suggests that people without a strong auxiliary function to complement their dominant function have real problems. From 20 – 35 years We begin to use our tertiary function more frequently and with better success. Our INFJ begins to use his Introverted Thinking function. He continues to make judgments with his Extroverted Feeling auxiliary function, but he also begins to make judgments based on logic and reason, which he works through in his own mind, rather than discussing it with others. From 35 – 50 years We pay attention to our fourth, inferior function. We feel a need to develop it and use it more effectively. Our INFJ begins to use his Extraverted Sensing function. He becomes more aware of his surroundings and begins to take in information from others in a more literal, practical sense. He continues to rely on his dominant Introverted iNtuitive function to take in information, but he is more able to use his Extraverted Sensing function than he has been before in his life. Some researchers have attested that the appearance of our inferior functions at this phase of life may be responsible for what we commonly call the "mid–life crisis".From 50 onwards From this age until our deaths, we have accessibility to all four functions. However, we use them in a more disciplined, differentiated manner than when we were very young. Our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Instinct And Intuition Instinct is a natural or intuitive way of acting and thinking. For the purposes of this essay, instinct and intuition will be considered one and the same, since the definition of one includes the other. Instinct gives us the ability to understand something without needing conscious reasoning or logical thinking. Sometimes described as a "gut feeling", intuition helps us make a decision by giving us a seemingly unexplainable or even illogical answer. This answer is based on our past experiences and existing knowledge. When using instinct, the person accesses the knowledge he already has and makes a guess that feels right. This guess might seem like it did not involve logic or reasoning but that can only be said about conscious and deliberate reasoning. It means that the subconscious does the work for the person and in the end gives him an intuitive or instinctive solution to the problem. Although instinct requires other ways of knowing, such as memory and logic, for it to come in effect, it can also successfully lead to discoveries on its own. By interacting with other ways of knowing, instinct not only serves as a base for different areas of knowing, such as religion, but also advances the progress in more specific and strict areas of knowing, like mathematics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most would say that it only involves reason and there is no creativity, imagination or intuition to it at all. However, there are several instances in mathematics when intuition serves as a way to make progress and innovation. The French mathematician, theoretical physicist, engineer, and philosopher of science Henri Poincare, for example, described two types of mathematicians in his article "Intuition and Logic in mathematics". One was preoccupied with logic, while the other was guided by intuition. Poincare also provides an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Intuition By Marilyn Vos Savant Christopher states how people tend to rely on their intuition, he believes that this often leads the person to the wrong answer. In lieu of this Christopher says that logic will undoubtedly bring you to the correct answer. His example of this was the Month Hall math problem. This consisted of a game show in which you are asked to chose a door, this could either lead to her winning a car or a goat. There are three doors, the hosts knows which door is hiding the car. The person chooses a door, so the hosts what's behind a different door and reveals a goat. At this point most people might go with their gut feeling (intuition) but this is an event in which someone should use logic. Marilyn vos Savant used logic to solve this problem, she was criticised by multiple mathematicians, scientists, etc. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many parents often tell their young ones to go with their gut feeling because for some reason your gut feeling is always right. This could be the case for many situations but there is no real proof that your gut feeling will always be correct. I have a personal anecdote that highlights this idea of intuition vs. logic. As a person who is very passionate about my soccer and track career, I try to take care of my legs, ankles, and body to best of my ability. I've broken my ankle and leg many times, most of these times were not my fault. About three or four years ago I was out skating with a group of friends, there was a specific trick that I had tried before that had given me minor injuries. The same week I had an important soccer tournament, I knew I could possibly hurt myself but I chose to do it anyways. I ended up fracturing my tibia and breaking my ankle. I had to have a cast for a total of about three months. I definitely regret going with my gut feeling and in hindsight it would have been way smarter to choose the more logical ... • 8. Gut Emotions Or Intuition? Intuition is a form of an unconscious thinking that just pops up whenever a situation presents itself without us having to do much to change or influence its perception on situations. Generally speaking, intuitive decisions are illogical and cannot be validated for they are often driven by external forces such as luck, fate or a spiritual being, and are not always based on rational reasoning. For these, intuition tells us that we know things without having us to know why we know these things. It dictate a person's feelings, thoughts, associations, and often could be biased towards a particular subject. Thus, it is not always wise to rely on our natural "gut feelings" or intuition because it could distance us from our analytical mindset, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows how gut feelings could lead to biased and judgmental reactions. And only after we take a step back to thoroughly process the information and weigh out the consequences of our reaction, should we make impactful decisions in some situations, like when a single mum of four that has recently lost her job stole some fruits from a fruit stand to feed her hungry children who have not eaten in some days. Yes, the gut might say that stealing is wrong, but that alone should not be the only basis to why stealing is wrong. When we do as our gut wills, we make decisions without much considerations, without having enough information to support our argument, without thinking that there might be other better options and reasons to buttress our initial gut feeling, and without ever thinking that we could be wrong somehow. Not only do intuitions at times deem us to be judgmental and biased, it sometimes removes "making sense" from our thoughts even though we might have good ideas, but instead lead us to making unnecessary and irrelevant points, like how Todd Staples' reasons to outlawing "Meatless Mondays" were, although convincing on the outside, erroneous and fallacious sentence by sentence when ... • 10. Examples Of Intuition Modality In Romeo And Juliet Mercutio exhibits the intuition modality in the Myer Briggs personality type through his actions portrayed in the play, Romeo, and Juliet by William Shakespeare. A person who is intuitive has abstract ideas, looks for deeper meaning, they look at the big picture, and they are imaginative. In the beginning of Act two Mercutio is informed that Tybalt has sent a letter to Romeo challenging him, to which Mercutio responds,"He is already dead, stabbed with a white/ wench's black eye, shot through the ear with love song/ the very in of his heart cleft with the blind bow–boy's butt shaft" (2.4.13–16). A person who is intuitive looks for deeper meaning, they look at the big picture, and they are imaginative. When Benvolio and Romeo are talking with each other Romeo confesses that he is heartbroken because he is in love with someone that does not love him back; Benvolio admits"Alas, that love, so gentle in his view/ Should be so tyrannous and rough in proof" (1.1.62––63) People who are intuitive they tend to look at the bigger picture of ideas rather than seeing the small details that come with it. Benvolio illustrates this with his conversation with Romeo because he sees love "so gentle" (1.4.162) before but now he is seeing it as a rough experience. Some see mind as a property exclusive to humans whereas others ascribe properties of mind to non–living entities to animals and to deities. Some of the earliest recorded speculations linked mind (sometimes described as identical with soul or spirit) to theories concerning both life after death, and cosmological and natural order, for example in the doctrines of Zoroaster, the Buddha, Plato, Aristotle, and other ancient Greek, Indian and, later, Islamic and medieval European philosophers. This included everyone that threatened Macbeth emotionally and also everyone in relation to that character. For instance, when Macbeth had Duncan killed Malcolm and Donalbain (Duncan's sons) fled. Likewise when he had the murderers kill Banquo, Banquo's son Fleance managed to escape. The last person to worry about was Macduff. Although he could not kill Macduff, due to his conciliation in England, he did go after everyone that resided in his home. This concluded Macbeth's "thought out" plan to become King. Macduff was the only other nobleman that Macbeth desired to throw out of the echelons. When Macbeth was presented with this problem it was very difficult to execute. This task was hard because Macduff fled to England to take himself out of what seemed to be a never ending death raid (*) Before Macbeth made his move on Macduff he had to return to the witches for more advice. To Macbeth's surprise the witches had an unknown power that he had never experienced before. Right before Macbeth's eyes an apparition appeared and said, "Macbeth, Macbeth, Macbeth, Beware Macduff. / Beware the Thane of Fife" (4.1.81–2). This quickly exacerbated Macbeth's thoughts about Macduff. Though things were not looking to good the second apparition appeared. This apparition in the form of a bloody child said, "Be bloody, bold, and resolute. Laugh to scorn/ The power of man, for none of a woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth" (4.1.90–2). At this point Macbeth is feeling as though he has a shot at becoming King. With his confidence boosted he wants to know more, thus the third apparition appears. The authors explain what they call the "illusion of attention" by providing experiments and illustrations. The message being passed is that we as humans might think we are always aware of our surroundings, but we actually miss what is right in front of us. People usually focus on one thing at a time, therefore the unexpected goes unnoticed. The book explains how the brain only focuses on the object or area you are concentrating on, making you "blind" to everything else. Many experiments were held to prove to the readers that our intuition deceives us. In the most famous experiment, the invisible gorilla, showed how oblivious we can be. To start off, people were asked to count how many passes between the players in white shirts had, ignoring the players in the black shirts. For half of the participants, a giant gorilla walked onto the court without anyone noticing. A monstrous, distinct gorilla was gone unnoticed because it was not expected or focused on. • 14. Pure Intuition, By Immanuel Kant Math, to Kant is synthetic because mathematical knowledge requires is true more than just definition. "All bachelors are unmarried" is analytic; "the bachelor down the street is untidy" is synthetic. This may seem odd; "1+2 = 3" seems to be analytic, as 2 is the sum of 1 and 1 by definition. Nevertheless this is illusory, according to Kant, because this is already a solved equation. When we look at an unsolved equation, we are presented with a problem. Take, for example 1+2 alone. We do not know what the sum of 1 and 2 are, just that their sum constitutes a number. We then must solve the equation using our intuition, or capacity to reason to come upon the answer, 3. Kant explains that sensory intuition helps us visualise physical objects, while pure intuition helps us visualise abstractions– this means we are capable of visualisation objects before their actual experience. Although this may seem peculiar, this, Kant explains, is because when we intuit something, we only intuit our own perceptions: we cannot comprehend things in themselves, or what he called in Critique of Pure Reason "noumena". Otherwise, all our intuitions would be empirical, and such pure mathematics would not be possible: we could simply see things as they really are, and we would not resort to abstracting relationships between concepts as we do in mathematics. What we perceive are our own understandings and ideas of objects; to understand them as they really are is not just impossible, but we could not even comprehend what it would be ... In reflection, nursing students have a minimal but developing level of clinical experience. Indeed, people sometimes make judgments based on their gut feelings, or intuition. It is a very subjective and interesting way to gain knowledge. Some might say, our sense perception does lead us to justifiable instinctive judgments, because the knowledge we gain through it about others' appearances does reflect their personality. This is only true to a certain extent. If our instinctive judgments can really be checked by sense perception or intuition, then why did some couples who claim to have experienced a "love at first sight" end up falling apart? Because their relationships lack to be "checked" by the most important factor – reason. How long would a relationship last really depends on knowledge gained by reasoning, such as how well the couple's would view and value match each other's; how their personalities are complementary, etc. A couple knows their first instinct is right when they decide they are indeed the right ones for each other by logically reasoning out their compatibility. Therefore, reason is ultimately the "check" on our instinctive judgments. To what extent can we rely on our emotion to make good choices at crisis instinctively? The Value Of Reasoning And Intuition Although it 's of value, and in some cases imperative, to listen to one 's intuitions, it is not always beneficial or healthy to do so when presented with a moral question. It most certainly does not benefit an individual or others to blindly trust the immediate answers that leap into our minds when posed with a moral consideration. Consider the value of reasoning and intuition in the broad scope. To feel is live, but to think is live as well. Our experiences are shaped by how we feel and what we think. One needs to think about their feelings just as one needs to feel. It is this act of conscious living that gives meaning to our experiences and helps us interact with others. To understand why it 's valuable to evaluate this relationship, it is essential to wrap our minds around the functions of morals and reasoning. Morals refer to ones own principles of right or wrong. Moral feeling is a personal internal response. There is a difference between feeling and reasoning. When reasoning, we use our reflective capabilities to understand and think in abstract terms. This process involves consideration of information we have yet to consider, to think outside our de facto and scripted responses to feeling. Several inclinations are similar throughout the distinct creatures like survival and protection. In the animal kingdom, all animals have evolved and kept the "good" traits that have kept them alive so far. The impulses of security and survival are not limited to animals, but also are human's instincts. It comes from the primitive side of all people, the side that is more connected to the animal inside the being. Even with how sophisticated and developed humans have become, people are still in touch with their primal instincts that have led the generations before to survive and pass down those urges. The predisposition that is passed down is the protection of self and then the family. In nature, a lion mother would do anything to save her cub from trouble. Difference Between Instinct And Intuition Responding to the smile of a baby, jumping–up when startled by a sudden sound, or even pulling your hand away from a hot fire are all examples of instinctive behaviour; instinct does not involve thought but is an automatic, evolutionary response to external stimuli. Instinctive judgements are more intuitive in nature but though related, in terms of both not involving conscious thought, instinct and intuition are not the same. Intuition is based on subconscious thought; a pattern recognized by the brain based on, for instance, past experiences, whereas instinctive judgements appear to be independent of experience or rational thought. As a student of psychology, I like to make the distinction that instinct is a behavioural process while intuition is a cognitive, but subconscious, process. In his book, The Language Instinct, he talks about how children learn language instinctively, without the need for complex thought and analysis, and feels that ways of knowing, such as the use of reason to understand grammar rules, actually slows down the process of language learning. On the other hand, linguistic determinism states that knowledge is shaped by language and is a cultural construct; people of different languages have different thought processes. Demonstrating this latter view, a situation, albeit fictional, where language limits instinctive judgements, can be seen in the success of "Newspeak", the state imposed language in George Orwell's 1984 , that prevented people from even thinking critically of the ... • 33. Intuition in A Jury of Her Peers Essay Intuition in A Jury of Her Peers Though men and women are now recognized as generally equal in talent and intelligence, when Susan Glaspell wrote "A Jury of Her Peers" in 1917, it was not so. In this turn–of–the–century, rural midwestern setting, women were often barely educated and possessed virtually no political or economic power. And, being the "weaker sex," there was not much they could do about it. Relegated to home and hearth, women found themselves at the mercy of the more powerful men in their lives. Ironically, it is just this type of powerless existence, perhaps, that over the ages developed into a power with which women could baffle and frustrate their male counterparts: a sixth sense – an inborn trait ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For while the men are looking actively for the "smoking gun," the women are confronted with more subtle clues in spite of themselves and even try to hide from each other what they intuitively know. But they do not fool each other for long, as Glaspell describes, "Their eyes met – something flashed to life, passed between them; then, as if with an effort, they seemed to pull away from each other" (295). However, they cannot pull away, for they are bound by a power they do not even comprehend: "We all go through the same things – it's all just a different kind of the same thing!...why do you and I understand? Why do we know – what we know this minute?" (303). They do not realize that it is intuition they share, that causes them to "[see] into things, [to see] through a thing to something else...." (294). Though sympathetic to Minnie Wright, the women cannot deny the damning clues that lead them to the inescapable conclusion of her guilt. If it is ironic that the women find the clues, it is even more ironic that they find them in the mundane household items to which the men attribute so little significance. "Nothing here but kitchen things," the men mistakenly think (287). Because of their weak intuition, they do not see the household as indicative of John's and Minnie's characters. They do not see beyond the cheerless home to John Wright's grim nature, nor do the dilapidated furnishings provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Benedictine Intuition: A Gentle Revolution Macaela Rudeck Benedictine Tradition: Reflection Paper 2 "The Benedictine Tradition is a gentle, non–violent revolution that can bring about change in a world immersed in violence. Colleges, such as St. Scholastica, are in the deep, rich current of this Benedictine Tradition because it has absorbed a monastic intuition about the presence of God, a present of God in a world that is tempted to believe human fulfillment can come about only if we forget about God," Demetrius Dumm writes in his article titled Benedictine Intuition: A Gentle Revolution. It is so easy to focus on human fulfillment, and forget about God. In this essay, I will analyze this quote, what it means to me and The College of Saint Scholastica, relate this quote back to two (hospitality and stewardship) of the five Benedictine values that this college so proudly accepts as their own, and discuss how one might find themselves joining this nonviolent revolution. To begin with, I would like to provide my personal meaning and interpretation of this quote. Basically, what I believe this quote is saying is that the Benedictine Tradition is greatly important to the world, because it provides a ray of sunshine, or hope, in an otherwise violence–ridden world. Also, this quote touches on the impact of colleges like Saint Scholastica and how we are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Obviously, since we are mentioned in the quote, there is some sort of connection to us, but what exactly is it? I believe the connection between our community and this specific quote is that we bring God into every aspect of the college, all while still respecting other religions. I do think this is a difficult balance to reach, and somehow the College of Saint Scholastica has figured out the correct equation in order to both represent what we believe in, God, and still remember that there is more than one religious representing student who ... • 35. Chaucer's Intuitions "I could end this with a moral, as if this were a fable about animals, though no fables are really about animals", spoken by Margaret Atwood. A fable is a short story with a moral and non–human characters personified to do human actions. Chaucer uses his exigence of intuition to create a moral, through rhetoric. Chanticleer dreams of the fox, "Of arrows or of fire...of red beasts...of strife..." (2930–2932). The negative connotations of "fire" and "beasts" create suspense. The polysyndeton demonstrates how Chanticleer trusts his intuition, because of his dream. Chanticleer uses ethos to explain his intuition, "Not dream sitting in a tree, /Which signified that hanged he was to be?" (3139–3140). Chaucer foreshadow Chanticleer would be up a tree, by using his intuition to avoid the fox's trickery, establishing Chaucer's exigence (Loose Syntax). Orwell uses his exigence to exemplify his moral, supported by rhetoric. Orwell's exigence of Totalitarianism relates to the moral of power will corrupt. The animals complain ... In the essays about Transcendentalism, the diction is more sophisticated, "Personal fulfillment, and subsequently personal health and happiness, are attained by transcending the custom of one's society" (Paragraph 2). The author uses the high–caliber diction of "subsequently", which may be substituted with "as a result." More importantly, the essays don't take the reader on as much of a journey, while the fables have characters, making them easier to follow (Loose Syntax). For example, in Animal Farm, the pigs are personified through their ability to walk on two legs, and break the Seven Commandments. These abilities result in the pigs becoming more like their human farmer. In Animal Farm and The Nun's Priest's Tale, Orwell and Chaucer use personified animals, which simplifies complex political problems, enabling the reader to better understand the text and the ... • 36. Space Is A Priori Intuition Of Transcendental Ideality In defining space, the largest question Kant had to wrestle with was whether space was a property of objects or a condition set in mental faculty. In order to determine this, space needed to be established as it stands as knowledge. Kant defines space as a priori intuition of transcendental ideality. Kant demonstrates that our sense of space cannot come from experience. When one perceives an object they relate the sensations that coordinate to that object a place. For example, one gets the sensation of the color of an apple and coordinates that color to the apple and the space that the apple occupies, in order for the apple to be red. The color red corresponds to the apple while the color of the table it is resting on coordinates to the table, keeping to two distinct positions in space. In order for an individual to relate an object as outside of them, they must assign them to a place. If this is the case, then space is a necessary base to one's perception of an object. So one cannot gain the intuition of space empirically as space is necessary to one's experience of the external world in order to have sensibility, or the faculty to passively know objects through sensation. Space is a condition of the perception of objects rather than a property of the objects themselves so there cannot be a perception of the objects without space. "It is impossible to have a representation of there being no space, though one can very well think of space without objects to fill it." (B39 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Intuition, Visions, And Prophecy Intuition, Visions and Prophecy Clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsentience. All of these terms relate to the basic notion of intuition. While many assume that the brain's main purpose is to serve only as a location to store factual information, new research proves otherwise. "While the major division in the brain is that of the cerebral hemispheres . . . sections of the left hemisphere . . . is useful for . . . the rest function for parallel operation, which underlies spatial abilities and intuition." (Ornstein, 138) Intuition, also known as insight or consciousness, has been referred to as "clear seeing, clear vision, clear hearing and clear sensing." (Pohle, Selover) This notion of the ability to experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time progressed, more questions of the origins of vision of the past and future were considered and studied, especially with regard to religion. King Solomon, a figure in Judaic history, supposedly had special knowledge because of his "command over, and communion with, dark forces led by the demon Asmodeus." (Roland, 20) He also supposedly had magical powers, which were a part of his knowledge of the Kabbalah, "the mystical aspect of Judaism." (Roland, 20) He wrote thousands of proverbs expressing his religious visions during his time which were incredibly influential. The Middle East also had a mystifying ancient history involving prophecy. Zoroaster, born in Afghanistan, is considered to be "the first prophet in history and certainly the first to preach a monotheistic belief." (Roland, 22) As man became more knowledgeable about prophets and his own inner wisdom, fascination with visions increased. Specifically, there was, and still is, a desire to learn how to rekindle one's own intuition for practical use. According to Robert Ornstein, author of The Evolution of Consciousness, the key to adjusting our thoughts is to create "conscious control" and to simply "shift the mind into place." He says that we possess a "third kind of evolution" that allows us to have conscious selection and from there, we can further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Cognitive Continuum Theory: Intuition And Analysis Cognitive continuum theory The cognitive continuum theory for decision making involves a continuum with two ends; intuition and analysis (Parker–Tomlin et al. 2017, p. 446). This theory presents each decision to be a task structure (Standing 2008, p. 128). Well–structured tasks prompt a more analytical mode of decision making (Standing 2008, p. 128). Whereas, ill–structured tasks prompt a more intuitive mode of decision making (Standing 2008, p. 128). Both intuition and analysis are considered equal value on the continuum (Standing 2008, p. 129). On the continuum, there are six categories of decision making (Offredy 2008, p. 857). On one end is 'scientific experiment' which involves strong analytical experimentation to make a decision (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Gathering, analysing and evaluating patient information is considered to be a crucial tool of effective contemporary nursing practice and clinical decision ... Mode two is called 'controlled trial' which involves making a decision based on the logic of statistics but also involves a small degree of intuition (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Mode three is called 'quasi–experimental' and involves both analysis and a person's own judgement (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Mode four to mode six all include intuition as a larger role in making a decision (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Mode four is 'system aided judgement' which includes cognition and intuition as a process of decision making (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Mode five, 'peer–aided judgement', suggests that decisions are made from people acting upon data in a passive and intuitive way (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Mode six is called 'intuitive judgement' (Offredy 2008, p. 858). Intuitive judgement for decision making is largely based on nursing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Difference Between Intuition And Learning The two systems had different terms from author to author; for example; rational versus experiential (Epstein et al., 1992), rule–based versus associative (Sloman, 1996), noetic versus experiential (Strack & Deutsch, 2004), deliberative versus affective (Loewenstein & O'Donoghue, 2005), and System 1 versus System 2 (Evans, 2003; Kahneman & Fredrick, 2002). These researchers do not only used different names for each of the two systems, they also used different terms to describe their meaning. The most frequently used terms are two–system, dual–mode, and dual–process. These theories have in common that there are two different processing modes. The most natural terms are system 1and system 2 modes (Evans, 2008 and (Keren & Schul, 2009). There are differences between intuition and reasoning thoughts which have been discussed for years. These variances have been appealed in efforts to form apparently conflicting results in judgment studies under uncertainty (Kahneman & Frederick, 2002; Sloman, 1996, 2002; Stanovich, 1999; Stanovich & West, 2002). Stanovich and West (2000) have been labelled these two cognitive processes system 1 and system 2 which have been agreed on by many researchers on features that discriminate the two types from each other. The processes ofsystem 1 are emotionally charged most of the time, they are usually fast, automatic, and effortless. They are hard to control or adjust as they are ruled by habit. On the other hand, the processes of system 2 are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
