comprehensively addresses women’s rights.
It features women’s rights in the
political, civil, economic, social and cultural spheres.







It aims to bring about substantive equality of women.
It prohibits actions and policies that put women at a
disadvantage whatever its intentions;
It recognizes the influence of culture and tradition on
restricting women’s enjoyment of their right, and challenges
States Parties to change stereotypes, customs and norms that
discriminate against women;
It discard the distinction between the private and the public
sphere

The CRC describe 4 categories of rights
1.Survival rights cover a child’s right to life and the needs that
are most basic to existence.
2. Development rights include what children require to reach
their fullest potential.
3.Protection rights recognizes the vulnerability of children.
4.Participation rights allow children to take an active role in
their communities and nations.
PEACE THEME 2:
GORDON ALLPORT (1958) Asserts that humans have a
prosperity toward prejudice. This propensity lies in their
normal tendency to form generalizations and categories
whose content represents an oversimplification of their word
of experiences.
Racism- the belief that one’s own cultural or racial heritage is
innately superior to that of others.
 Sexism- a system of attitudes, actions and structures that
subordinates others on the basis of their sex where the usual
victims are women.
 Heterosexism- negative attitudes toward lesbians and gay men.
 Classism- distancing from and perceiving the poor as “the other”.
 Linguicism-negative attitudes w/c members of dominant language
groups hold against non dominant language.
 Ageism-negative attitudes held against the young or the erderly.
 Looksism-prejudice against those who do not measure up to set
standards of beauty.
Religious Intolerance- prejudice against those who are followers of
reigions other than one’s own.

TOLERANCE is not tolerating what is unjust but it is
respecting, accepting and appreciating the rich diversity of
cultures and various forms of human expressions(UNESCO).
Education for tolerance aims to counter influences that lead to
fear, discrimination and exclusive others.
(B. HARRO, 1982)-asserts that humans are born with
stereotypes and prejudicial attitudes are sometimes
reinforced in the family and in the institutions where humans
are socialized.
