The Dark Knight
2012 was a great year for nerds like myself. The Avengers, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,
and The Dark Knight Rises all came out during this year. Each movie piqued the anticipation of fans
everywhere. For me, the last of these three seemed the most intriguing. Christopher Nolan, fresh off
the brilliant Inception was concluding his epic The Dark Knight Trilogy. The Dark Knight became
one of the best sequels ever, so I expected The Dark Knight Rises to live up to Batman Begins, at
least. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice because The Dark Knight Rises, while still a good
movie, is the worst in the trilogy.
This film takes place eight years after the awe–inspiring events of The Dark Knight. The lies told at
the end of the previous film have served their purpose. Gotham has become a cleaner, more crime–
free city than ever before. But not all is well. Bruce Wayne (Christiaan Bale reprising his role) has
become a recluse. Jim Gordon (played again by Gary Oldman) feels overwhelmed by guilt. To top it
all off, Gotham faces a new terrorist threat from an unknown entity known as Bane (Tom Hardy). To
combat Bane, Batman must return from his self–imposed exile to save Gotham once more.
All the returning actors give worthy performances in their respective roles, which they have made
their own. Christian Bale simply inhabits Batman at this point, and he adds more depth to Bruce
Wayne in this third movie. Morgan Freeman provides a characteristically on point performance as

When you think of psychology what is the the first name that comes to mind? My guess is that you
thought of Sigmund Freud. Even though none of his theories of dreams or sexuality have any
empirical evidence, he is still one of the most influential figures in all of philosophy. One of Freud's
ideas that does have substance is the idea that our minds are dynamic and contain both conscious
and unconscious memories, thoughts, and desires. Freud labeled these phenomena the id, ego, and
superego. While the nuances of this theory are complex and somewhat monotonous, they are
brought to life in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. The chaotic and childish joker (id), the pure
and valiant Harvey Dent (superego), and the one responsible for finding a balance between the two,
Batman (ego).
"The id is the completely unconscious, impulsive, childlike portion of the psyche that operates on
the "pleasure principle" and is the source of basic impulses and drives; it seeks immediate pleasure
and gratification." (Boundless, par. 5) The most memorable scenes in The Dark Knight begin with
the Joker asking, "You wanna know how I got these scars?" (Nolan) and every time he gives a
different reason. The first is that "My father, was a drinker, and a fiend. And one night, he goes off
crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One.

The Dark Knight Themes
The Dark Knight – A Power Struggle
Batman, a name synonymous with the word hero. He was first introduced to the world in Detective
Comics #27 (artist Bob Kane, writer Bill Finger, 1939). He quickly became a fan favourite and has
since then seen numerous film, television, and video game adaptations. The first film adaptation
being Batman (Lambert Hillyer, 1943), a mere 4 years after his introduction in 1939. Throughout his
tenured career Batman has faced numerous villains, each of them reinforcing the themes of evil vs
good, power, and anarchy vs order. The themes are especially prevalent when Batman faces off
against his arch–rival, and foil, the Joker. In The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008) these
themes are perfectly encapsulated in the Joker interrogation scene. Almost an hour and half into the
film is when the interrogation scene takes place. The scene lasts for approximately five minutes and
is comprised of 79 cuts. In a way, the scene almost has three acts. It starts off with the Joker's
perspective of Commissioner Gordon entering the room to begin his interrogation of the Joker. The
Joker is framed to the right, while Gordon is framed to the left. From the very first shot of the scene,
the theme of power is presented. The over the shoulder shot, combined with a slight dolly in,
conveys to the audience that Joker is the one in control. As Gordon walks up we see that the Joker is
completely shrouded in darkness, with only his face being visible. This portrays the

Joker In The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight opens with a classic robbery scene that makes the argument, that there is a code
among criminals that should be adhered to. Towards the end of the scene we see the bank manager
talking to the Joker exclaiming that criminals used to have honor and respect for one another, an
honor among thieves. The Joker does not share this same "honor" and will do what he wants, like
murder the people who help him rob the bank, to bring chaos and mayhem to Gotham. This
argument could be made by both the Joker and the Director of the film in order to show how
different the Joker is from any normal criminal. As shown later on in the film when he burns large
piles of money, the Joker does not care for money and material things like most mobsters ... Show

The mobsters in this film have respect for one another and know not to tamper with someone else's
territory. However, the Joker is not a mobster, he is a psychopath that knows how to manipulate
people by using money and scare tactics. The Joker does not rob the mob's banks because of the
money, he robs them to show the mob that respect only goes as far as the dollar you are giving. In
Gotham, every criminal knows their place in the large scheme of things and they do try and break
the mold because of the fear and "respect" they have for the mob bosses. When the bank manager
says that the Joker has no respect for who he is robbing, the audience should see the Joker as the
worst of criminals because he does not adhere to any code. The audience should think that the Joker
is the worst of the criminals in Gotham because he has no respect for the people helping him with
his plans, they are just pawns in his larger scheme. The general audience should know that the Joker
is the main villain to Batman, but what this scene shows is that he does not like to work with others
because of their differences in goals. The people that were employed by the Joker went blind
because of the money they were going to get and failed to realize that they were working for a

The Dark Knight Analysis
In 1989, Batman's revival in cinema has awakened with Tim Burton's Batman, which adapted the
past comic book iteration of the hero as a dark and broody hero. It establishes the epic rivalry
between Batman and his greatest nemesis, the Joker. Although, the movie's core audience gained
further significance with the young or comic book readers, relative to the general audience. Reviews
from critics received positive acclaim, but few noted that the film was gloomy.
After many poorly received sequels such as Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin, many fans lost
faith with the caped crusader will ever have another successful film. In 2008, Christopher Nolan's
The Dark Knight where the return of the rivalry between Batman and the Joker presents again on the
silver screen. The film's release received high critical acclaim, and us nominated for six Academy
Awards and winning two for Best Supporting Actor and Best Sound Editing. While Tim Burton's
film remains successful, its popularity increased with the comic book or younger demographic.
Christopher Nolan's modern adaptation of the superhero resulted in more positive acclaims with the
general audience due to its mature and modern tones rather than Tim Burton's film receiving general
to average ratings. One of the biggest factors of this is realized with the art and presentation. Most
obvious is the design of the Batsuit. While both movies share the core design of a dark and sleek
costume, Christopher Nolan's design is influenced

Analysis Of ' The Dark Knight '
The caped crusader is one of the most famous super heroes ever. Bruce Wayne is the man behind the
mask that is a debonair, successful heir to his family's business. From his bat cave to his black suit,
Batman is recognized as being a superhero that metes out justice with fairness and efficiency, but
what would be said if Batman and Wayne was a superhero with a mental disorder? Post–traumatic
stress disorder is a trauma stress disorder that occurs frequently in combat veterans, natural disaster
survivors, and even motor vehicle accidents (Nevid, Rathus, and Greene 149).
The Dark Knight is the second movie of a trilogy about the caped crusader himself, Batman. The
Dark Knight begins with Bruce Wayne, a rich heir to Wayne Enterprises and now head man for the
business, portraying a busy life while secretly fighting crime in Gotham city as Batman. Bruce
Wayne has a love interest in a woman and childhood friend of Rachel that was introduced in the first
movie of the trilogy. Rachel is aware that Wayne is Batman. Bruce keeps from being in a
relationship with Rachel due to the risks to her life if someone were to find out that he is Batman.
Also, it was to save her from heartache knowing that each night he goes out could be the last he
lives. The main antagonist of the movie is the villain Joker. Not much of a storyline about his past is
present in the movie and he is mostly an enigma. The main things we learn about the Joker's past are

The Dark Knight And Inception
There are many successful directors who have produced at least one blockbuster film that is
critically acclaimed, and Christopher Nolan has been able to do this several times. Christopher
Nolan began directing movies in 1998 and has directed fourteen movies since 1998. The film critic
Alissa Wilkinson notes in her article The films of Christopher Nolan, explained, "Nolan has shown
himself to be interested in both entertaining audiences and making them think, in pushing the
boundaries of what they believe a movie can and should be". Christopher Nolan also often deals
with the subjects of time, memory, and life philosophies that drive movies and characters. Two of
Nolan's most prominent films through his whole career have been the Dark Knight(2008) and
Inception(2010). Both of the films show how Nolan's movies end ambiguously and how each
protagonists in his films has an antagonist with opposite philosophies and beliefs.
Inception is a film that contains a protagonist and antagonists with opposing philosophical views
and beliefs. The movie includes examples of the belief that the world is real conflicting with the
belief that the world is a dream with death as the only way out. For instance in one part of the movie
Dom is argueing with Mal that they are in the real world as they both stand on the window ledge of
opposing buildings. Mal begs Dom to come with her as she says this world is a dream and that the
only way to wake up is by jumping.Dom tries to tell her that they are

Burning. Massive flames. A dark shape emerges. Growing. Filling the space with blackness.
Blinding light, moving over the towers of a city. The light closes in on the buildings, consuming
them, consuming you. Can't escape, can't breathe, completely overwhelmed. When suddenly you
hear "CUT!", and find yourself on a movie set, watching a scene that just get shot, back in the real
world. That feeling you experienced, surrendering yourself, your senses is called suspension of
disbelief. The willingness to suspend one's critical facilities and believe the unbelievable. This
disbelief is not in used in film but in art as well. The scene described above is from a piece called
London's Burning by Chris Sheldrake, but you would also see some of the same aesthetics in the
opening title sequence of The Dark Knight. All art forms feed of each other and by using three
movies and their corresponding pieces of art, I will illustrate the influence that each of these
individual images had on their respective films. How art inspires cinema.
The Dark Knight was the second entry in The Dark Knight Trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan.
He is an English film director, screenwriter, and producer. One of the highest–grossing directors in
history, and among the most acclaimed filmmakers in the 21st century. In a world where comic book
movies reign supreme, Nolan's work with Batman stands outs above the rest. He made a world

Heterosexuality In The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight, a fictional film, portrays the havoc that takes place on the citizens of Gotham City
as Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, tries to fight injustice while moral dilemmas are being
thrown at him. The struggles that he face ties into hegemonic norms, which are the social, cultural,
ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group (Dr. Burke). This includes the
Joker's challenging the hegemony, the heroic face, Batman's heterosexuality and male power
identity, and Rachel Dawes's assisting Bruce's hegemony in anyway that she can. The Dark Knight
is not just a tale of good and evil, but a complex puzzle where the citizens of Gotham are blaming
Batman for the deaths of innocent people and policemen. While the Joker, ... Show more content on

With every challenge he faces, he demonstratively consolidates his superiority while wearing his
costume, denoting his personal sharpness and aggressiveness. Batman's identity is so tied with male
and heterosexual hegemony that any threat to it feels like an attack. This relationship is identified
when Batman lost his own parents from a homicidal maniac who was a threat to social order. This
explains why Batman reasserts his authority by beating the Joker, a character who seemingly has a
"feminine" mind and a "male" body that could be interpreted as a reminder to Batman of the action
performed by his father. Batman's continual beating of the Joker demonstrates strength, which
illustrates the dominance of the male and heterosexual hegemony in the society according to the
patriarchal guidelines. Batman wants to undertake the Joker in order to prove his physical strength
to get the Joker into submission. Batman tries to make his male and heterosexuality gender norms
into reality, thus justifying his existence (Peaslee, 140). This assists him in making his normative
male and heterosexuality into a powerful patriarchal hegemony that allows him to exceed his

Hidden Motifs In The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan, cinematography by Wally Pfister. The Dark
Knight (2008), directed by Christopher Nolan is an action thriller that leaves you at the edge of your
seat. Batman ( Christian Bale) battles with the antagonist Joker throughout the movie, while Batman
mends the Jokers corruptions all through the city. I would recommend The Dark Knight and rate it a
⅘ because it displays many hidden motifs throughout. One of the motifs displays that even the most
evil of people have good in them, but also good people have bad in them too. Batman and the Joker
are an iconic duo that need each other to continue the lives that they live. The third motif throughout
the movie is a the minor but pertinent theme of romance thrown into the thrill seeking movie. There
is good and bad in everyone, and the right situation will show a person's true colors. The inmates on
the boat play a key example of this. One of the inmates on the boat takes the detonator and throws it
out the window instead of blowing up the other boat. Another example is Harvey Dent, and the
persuasion of the Joker to turn him bad. Harvey is well liked in the beginning but after Harvey's
incident. Joker influences Harvey to join him, thus, Harvey tries to kill ... Show more content on

Philosophical Analysis Of The Dark Knight
Philosophical Analysis of The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, is an action–packed movie set in the fictional city
of Gotham. It is a real–life film based on the marvelous comic book hero, Batman. Throughout the
movie, there are many philosophical themes portrayed. After closely analyzing the film, I found that
some of the most distinct ideas would be that of Hobbes' theory of human nature. More specifically,
Hobbes' idea that without the security that society offers, humans will become fearful and chaotic.
Humans are prone to look towards an authority figure that can provide them protection, and when
that figure is taken away, they go into anarchy.
There are two main characters that the storyline revolves around, Batman and the Joker. Batman
serves as the guardian of Gotham City. The Joker, however, stands as the villain who strives to
create a world of chaos. Hobbes' theory on state of nature says that society is the sole reason that
humans act civilized. Hobbes' believes in the "state of war,", which is a way of life that is proven to
be brutal and short. The Joker's main goal is to prove that people have the natural capability to do
evil. While he attempts to prove this throughout his many twisted plans, he is driven to eliminate the
one thing that keeps Gotham City from turning hopeless and chaotic, Batman. Without its protector,
Gotham City would soon turn to a "state of war." Hobbes' also says, "Fear makes natural man want

(WORKING TITLE) Batman's duality as hero and hazard reflect how the capitalism present in
America is both the problem and solution. As the third installment in the Batman trilogy, a different
tone is used when the hero is introduced in the beginning scene. In the preceding films, the hero has
been seen righting wrongs and serving justice by banishing the manipulative, toxic and evil villains
Gotham is infested with. In the opening scene of The Dark Knight Rises, Commissioner Gordon
delivers a speech to honor the late Harvey Dent, former Gotham mayor, and his major contribution
in ridding the city's criminal activity. Dent was a symbol of hope and restoration from the economic
decline Gotham faced and the gang activity that terrorized the streets. Batman 2: The Dark Knight
introduced the villainous Joker and his psychotic madness which led to Dent's own decline when the
madman kills Dent's lover. This sparked Dent's own madness and list of homicides. Wanting to
preserve the hope Dent instilled onto the people and prevent chaos, Batman takes the blame for
Dent's transgression. And so, begins the duality of Batman.
Batman is the alter ego of wealthy and successful business man, Bruce Wayne. Wayne's parents
were tragically murdered right in front of him when he was young by an armed robber. This was the
moment Wayne took an oath to himself that he would rid his city of the injustice and crime that

Dark Knight Sparknotes
I am going to write a film analysis essay for the film The Dark Knight. My chosen essay topic is:
Analyse how visual or sound effects were used to emphasise a theme in the visual or oral text(s). I
need to show how the main themes of showing morality when making decisions and the power held
by the villain are presented in the film through the use of dialogue, camerawork, sound, and editing.
I will refer to the scene when The Joker announces his social experiment and he and Batman have
their final fight, The Ferry Scene, for my specific example. I will also comment on the director,
Christopher Nolan's intentions in order to show my personal insight into the film.

If, however, one of you presses the button, I'll let that boat live. So, who's it going to be: Harvey
Dent's most wanted scumbag collection, or the sweet and innocent civilians? You choose... Oh, and
you might want to decide quickly because the people on the other boat might not be so noble." This
is The Joker's way of giving the passengers an ultimatum. Live and kill, or be killed. His experiment
furthers the effect of his actions as an anarchist on the people of Gotham, as the passengers are left
in shock and have to make a life or death decision in such a small amount of time. The lack of
hesitation in his relaxed voice makes it clear to the audience that this was a well–rehearsed and
planned announcement. He had organised this and was then ready to begin to carry out his
experiment, in which he expected at least one boat full of people to die as a result. This showed the
power and control he had as Gotham's villain because in just one statement he was able to terrorise
people and leave them with such as difficult decision to make. All scenarios he had implied to the
passengers resulted in at least one ferry being blown up, while he would remain unaffected by the
outcome. As well as creating a feeling of fear and suspense for the audience, who are watching the
scene play out to discover the outcome, it also makes the viewer question: What is the right and
wrong decision to make? What would you do if it was you in that situation? At the end of the scene,

Complexity In The Dark Knight
In the film 'The Dark Knight' by Christopher Nolan, one of the main ideas is the complexity of
morality. This means that if something seems wrong, it doesn't necessarily mean it is, it could seem
wrong but in the end, just be a journey to the greater good. Batman shows many different examples
of this throughout the film where he is disobeying the law but saving the day. Batman is a symbol
that represents the complexity of morality. This is shown by colour and costume. Batman always
wears black, and black typically represents the darkness as well as evil. Therefore, it is weird for a
hero, who is a good do–er, to wear a black costume. His costume is fully black, including his mask,
and looks extremely intimidating. It is quite scary, and if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There is a shaky–camera shot of the batman brutally beating up the joker which is morally wrong,
but Batman is sticking to his morals about not ever killing a human being, no matter how sick and
psycho they are. The shaky–camera shot was used extremely well in this scene as it shows us how
batman was feeling, he would've been terrified and nervous and he probably wanted to murder the
Joker. The shaky–camera acts as if someone was standing there and recording while shaking
because they were so scared. The complexity of morality is also shown in this scene by lighting. In
this scene, the lights turn off and it becomes pitch black, then out of nowhere batman appears from
the shadows. Batman hides just like a villain would, even in the rest of the film, Batman is always in
the dark and moves without being seen. Nolan used lighting extremely well to show us the true
colours of batman. He is a person who is good but bad at the same time. He disobeys the laws and
hides in the darkness only to save the day in a way that is morally complex. Nolan wanted us to
think about the complexity of morality in this scene as sometimes we could think that something is
right but in the end, it's not the most responsible and manly thing to do. Even though Batman was
extremely angry, beating up the Joker would do nothing. Plus the joker knew he wouldn't kill him
because that is against Batman's

Lighting : The Dark Knight
Lighting creates an atmosphere for the setting; it establishes the overall tone for what the audience is
able to receive. Lighting is a key aspect in filming, as it can transform tones from scene to scene to
create a certain subliminal meaning. For instance, the contrasting light from character to character
allows the viewer to understand the differences between them such as their values and overall
message. Throughout the movie "The Dark Knight" lighting allows for the directors subliminal
meaning to come through. As the name of the movie suggests, "The Dark Knight," the overall tone
of the movie is set in the darkness. This dark atmosphere allows for an eerie feeling, tension to build
up, and an anxious feeling for the viewer. This corresponds with how the movie itself is broken
down because the most intense scenes are when the light goes down. As well, lighting is so
important in film because without it, the viewer would not be able to correspond with the visuals.
For instance, silent films relied on the visuals to impact the viewer. Furthermore, the introduction of
colour to film made lighting much more important to get correct because having distractions would
be unpleasant to the viewer. The underlying meaning behind the lighting choices within the film will
be shown by the protagonist, antagonist and the overall atmosphere within the movie. In regards to
the protagonist group, the lighting is used to highlight the good that resides within them. Their

The Joker is characterised as a calculating and logical criminal, a rebel with minimal empathy or

An example of this is in the opening sequence, he torments many people, by putting grenades in

example, in this scene, is when he sits with the owner of the bank. After putting a grenade in his

angles is one technique that helps develops this characteristic as it is a low angle tilt, to show that
The Joker is superior and a dominant figure in this scene. The angle almost is intended to be a view
point from the bank owner. Which makes the bank owner to feel vulnerable. In this shot, Lighting is
also a very effective technique that shows his minimal. The lighting is dark, only exposing half of
his face, this gives the feeling of fear and distress. Also, to add to this characteristic of minimal
empathy, dialogue is another effective technique. The Joker says, "What doesn't kill you simply
makes you... stranger." Almost in confident hysterics The Joker walks off with the peg to the fake

lack of moral, as he doesn't care about conforming to society.

The Dark Knight
Drama Films are a genre that show serious stories, they're more realistic than other genres out there
because quite often they deal with real life situations. The characters always have some kind of
conflict; they show humans at their worst, best, and in–between. There's a wide range of themes for
drama films, to name just a few: current issues, societal ills, injustice, political unrest, corruption of
power, and corrupt societal institutions. The Dark Knight touches on quite a few of these themes.

The Archetypal view on the movie The Dark Knight Rises
Every one of us is different from each other in numerous ways, but because most of us have similar
life experience and behaviours we are all perceived to be of one society. In the film Gotham city is
seen as an individual city from society after the falling of the government. The film is able to
achieve individuation through the process of being different from society, because Gotham was
faced with the challenge of overcoming the evil that seek to destroy the city. Gotham is seen through
the eyes of society as the 'perfect' city. The shadow is suppressed in order for the Gotham's persona

Even to this day, many have failed to replicate what has been known to be the most successful
superhero trilogy of all time. With awards totaling south of over seventy total wins and over 100

was to create the last installment as more than just a film, but as a piece of art as well. Many
methods were used to reach this profound approach to filmmaking, however it was the brilliant
cinematography, the acting that brought the characters to life, and the director's genius ending that

One of the major reasons for the success of the Dark Knight Rises film is because of its award

achieving timeless art through the process of using natural light to depict the different array of

Character Analysis The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, depicts Gotham and its citizens
defending their city from a malicious mastermind, the Joker. Crime in Gotham virtually disappeared
thanks to the efforts of Lieutenant Gordon, District Attorney Harvey Dent, and Batman. The Joker
aspires to corrupt the city by testing its citizens' integrity and moral principles. A clever criminal

he surprises the audience with his meticulous planning. He knows that chaos will incite terror
among the citizens of Gotham and will test their ethical boundaries. Easily distinguishable by his
scars and distinctive makeup, the Joker draws attention to himself and brings his diabolical
intentions to light. He uses the story of his scars to intimidate his victims with the infamous line,

The only realties in life, according to the Joker, involve chaos, anarchy, and disorder. In the hospital,

Dark Knight Symbolism
Within the film The Dark Knight, one of the many techniques used was symbolism. One of the
symbols that was portrayed throughout the film was Two–Face' coin, it represents how Two–Face
leaves his choices up to chance, but since the coin got burnt everything equals a messy death. When
it comes down to it everything is a life or death situation although there were a few scenes that
showed that Two–Face didn't always listen to what the coin said because "he makes his own luck"
(Nolan 2008). Another symbol was the bat signal, it represents the trust between Batman and
Gordon. Harvey did use the bat signal at one point and violated the personal connection between
them, which was wrong, only Gordon was allowed to use it because he earned the right ... Show

Harvey Dent wears ordinary clothes, which helps to draw your attention to his face when he turns
into Two–Face. The audience's attention is drawn to his face and how he was burnt, rather than his
costume. There was no make–up on Harvey's burnt side though it is all edited in afterwards. In the
first scene where the clowns are in the bank, The Joker takes off his mask and instead of showing us
a normal face we a greeted with a psychopathic impression of a man. He was wearing white make
up with deep black eyes and a long red cut along his mouth running from cheek to cheek. This
makes the audience feel uneasy because they don't know why his face is like that and the make–up

The Dark Knight Codes And Conventions
Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight is not a film normally considered a member of the
western genre by any means. The western genre is meant to captivate a viewer with action on the
frontier of the ol' west. From bank robberies to mining towns wanted for land, the western brought
many new film plots and characteristics to the big screen. The main appeal of westerns started dying
off in the late 1900s but that has not stopped modern day film makers from producing them. Films
such as Django Unchained (2012), True Grit (2010), The Magnificent Seven (2016), and The Dark
Knight (2008) all have revamped the western genre in the early 2000s by bringing new modern
twists and stories to the genre. Now many would wonder as to why The Dark Knight is listed here as
a western, and the short and simple response is that it is a western and can be considered so for
multiple reasons, such as characters, the fight between good and evil, setting, and the fact that it
compares very well to another well–known western, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence. All of
these reasons come together to make The Dark Knight a certified western.
The characters of The Dark Knight are one of the biggest reasons many could consider this movie to
be a western. Starting with Batman, played by Christian Bale, the movie details its western hero as a
billionaire playboy with keen sense of crime fighting. While he is not the most typical of all western
heroes, he should still be considered one due to

Dark Knight Rises
The film "the dark knight rises" is a film directed by Christopher Nolan it uses a variety of
techniques to portray the underworld of Gotham. In the film the audience depict the city as a very
unlit place where darkness occupies the city due to protagonist roaming the city and creating chaos.
The way the director creates the dark underworld of Gotham is by using film techniques such as the
way he uses camera angle and movements, sound effects, special effects. However the biggest and
most noticeable technique that the director uses is the lighting adjustment which throughout the
scenes creates the dark underworld of Gotham.
Lighting in film is very important as it plays a big factor towards the message the director is trying

This is the main technique used throughout the film as they are plenty of examples of this technique.
For example, a scene used in the film to show this technique is towards the end of the film where
Batman blames himself after the death of a female character so that the Harvey doesn't harm or kill
the Officer in charge. The lighting of the scene is low key and the audience can not see where
batman comes from because he is also wearing dark clothing which emits not signs of light. Another
example is how Batman runs away from the police officers who now believe he is a vigilante, the
police officers try and capture batman while holding torches as the Batman runs deep into the dark
unseen by both the police officers nor the audience. Low key lighting was a very essential technique
used by the director because it made the whole film very dramatic and showed the audience that the
underworld of Gotham was a place full of crime, no hope and in need of a hero to help clean and
protect the city. The contrast of the darkness and lighting make it the perfect environment for the
batman to hide and protect the underworld of

The Dark Knight Analysis
Gotham City is running rampant with organized crime and a hero must rise. However, it's not the
hero that we think. Bruce Wayne, A.K.A. "Batman" (Christian Bale) is viewed as a source of
vigilante justice by a majority of the city, more or less a scapegoat for the city's misfortunes. The
situation in Gotham takes a turn for the worse once a sadistic psychopath named "Joker" (Heath
Ledger) appears for the first time. The Joker's crime wave begins small, but through his ability to
manipulate and deceive, he begins to change the culture in Gotham. Writer/Director Christopher
Nolan's second installment to Batman Begins successfully progresses past the story's origins in the
last film, creating characters that undergo noticeable development. Nolan throws us into a post 9/11
world, with obvious themes of domestic terrorism embedded throughout an urban setting. Although
the film may be labeled as dark by many, The Dark Knight, captures its audience from the beginning
through Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker and through its complex themes.
The entirety of The Dark Knight is enshrouded in a cloud of darkness from the beginning, then
taking away its greatest asset towards the end. Any element of humor used in this film is dark humor
to say the very least. For example, the Joker interrupts a crime ring in the midst of a meeting in
order to discuss how the Batman must be eliminated. Sensing the tension in the room, the Joker
places a pencil into the table, right after asking,

Language In The Dark Knight
In the film The Dark Knight, the director Christopher Nolan uses many language features to
effectively highlight the contrast between good and evil, and that people have both good and evil
within them. One of the most significant scenes that highlights these ideas is the scene where Bane
has been knocked to the ground by Batman which crosscuts with the flashback scene of Miranda
and Bane's past.
The language features character actions, camera work and characterisation, helped me see the
contrast between good and evil, and how people have both good and evil within them, in the scene
where Batman has knocked Bane to the ground and is viciously punching him. As Batman is doing
this, Nolan has angled the camera at a low angle on Batman to make him look big, scary, ... Show

Nolan wants us the audience to see that no one is perfectly good, not even Batman because he
abuses people even though it is for a good purpose. Nolan wants us to see that not even someone as
righteously good as Batman, is perfectly good, they still have their evil flaws. Understanding this
makes us humans feel scared and aware that even friendly and nice people, like ourselves, can be as
violent and scary as Batman was.
Nolan uses the language features crosscutting, camera work, costume and symbolism to highlight
the contrast between good and evil and that people have both good and evil within them in the
flashback scene, where we see that, as a child, Miranda was saved by Bane from people who were
attacking the people in the pit she was in, Bane included. After we, the audience, see this, the scene
crosscuts to a scene of the present. Nolan uses a close up camera shot on Bane's face so that we see
the tear that rolls down his cheek. By crosscutting the scene where Bane saves Miranda, with the
close up of Bane's face, our perspective on Bane's character changes and we see the contrast
between good and evil in him. Throughout the film, Nolan had us convinced that Bane was just pure
evil,

The film, The Dark Knight, used visual design in order to support the genre, create a sense of time

drama through the drastic change in lighting that was used. Throughout the film there is a direct
difference between the lighting used for the protagonist, Bruce Wayne/Batman, the antihero, Harvey
Dent, and the antagonist, the Joker. There is direct tension between Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent,
the reason being that Batman is seen as the vigilante and Harvey Dent is seen as a white knight.

It is an eloquent fully functioning suit, unlike the raggedy purple suit used by the Joker. Batman's

the Joker. The costumes of the main characters illustrate the identities and backgrounds of the

Identity In The Dark Knight
Clearly the name of the movie The Dark Knight is referring to the batman. He is the knight that
protects Gotham and its people of any threats, but he is a dark knight because he protects Gotham in
shadows and most of the scenes in the movie of him in the batman suit is at night. And of course, a
hero needs a villain and that villain is Joker. Movie starts with Joker robbing a bank and telling all
the robbers to kill each other and in the end, he is alone standing, which shows how twisted and
crazy he is. Now both batman and joker are hiding their identity in the movie by wearing a mask and
make up, which could be recognized as one of the theme of identity in the movie.

Masculinity In The Dark Knight
Representation refers to the construction of media languages which are used to portray a particular
type of filmic world to an audience (slide). This essay shall outline different treatments of
filmmaking used to establish certain societal groups from the critically acclaim superhero film The
Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan. This sequel film follows Batman, with help
from Lieutenant James Gordon, and new district attorney Harvey Dent eradicating crime from
Gotham city until a crazy mastermind criminal, the Joker appears in Gotham, creating chaos. The
first paragraph introduces the stereotypical representation of masculinity in superhero film through
the aspects of mise–en–scene and acting of the male protagonist. Storyline and mise–en–scene help
establish the representation of pretty, leading– female characters that semi–disrupts the damsel in
distress stereotype. Before lastly describing the representation of menacing villains through
cinematography decisions, sound and an actor's performance.
I would like to state the importance of an actor performance and mise–en–scene of the male hero to
portray the representation of masculinity in this film. Connells (1995) addresses that Bruce Wayne's
character is the definition of the hegemonic representation of masculinity which embraces and
exploits the over exaggerated standards of masculinity of them being serious, unnaturally strong,
wealthy and cool. His facial expressions also help contribute to this

The Dark Knight Essay
"The Dark Knight" is grimly magisterial. It's a summer blockbuster that contemplates near–total
civic disaster: Crowds surge, tractor–trailers flip, and buildings explode, but the pop violence feels
heavy, mournful. Light barely escapes the film's gravitational pull. Yet flitting through this 10–ton
expressionist murk is a diseased butterfly with stringy hair and a maniacal giggle. Played by a dead
actor, he's the most alive thing here. It's not quite fair to say that the late Heath Ledger steals "The
Dark Knight" from Christian Bale and the forces of (problematic) good, but, as the Joker, he is the
movie's animating principle and anarchic spark – an unstoppable force colliding with the immovable
objects of Batman and director ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confusion reigns in the opening scenes; loose threads abound toward the end (including one major
figure literally left hanging). Yet the generous midsection works as an agonized big–muscle action
film about a conflicted superhero. As Bruce Wayne, Bale is gravely shallow, and he lacks the sense
of fun Robert Downey Jr. gave his obscenely rich playboy in "Iron Man." Bruce uses his secret
identity as a hidden camera to glean information from the city's upper echelons, but he's not quite
there otherwise. This, oddly, is what makes him interesting, both to us and to assistant DA and ex–
girlfriend Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, taking over from Katie Holmes and providing the
character – at last – with a spine and a brain). Batman's a whole other story. The filmmakers have
worked out the mask problems from the previous film; Bale fills the suit with grace and danger. His
voice is disguised as well – it's now a bass–heavy synthesized whisper. The character seems more
than ever an extension of his high–tech toys (like the neat–o Bat–scooter that pops out of the
Batmobile at one point, ecstatically rearing up like the Lone Ranger's Silver). He represents a
citizen's darkest urges, though, and it eats at him. He's Dirty Harry crossed with Hamlet. The

Formalism In The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight The Dark Knight is an action hero film from 2008 directed and co–written by
Christopher Nolan. It is Christopher Nolan's second film based on the comic hero Batman, and it's
the second movie to the 2005 Batman Begins. As Roger Ebert explains, "It creates characters we
come to care about. That's because of the performances, because of the direction, because of the
writing, and because of the superlative technical quality of the entire production." The stars include
Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman,
and Morgan Freeman. This is the second film to Batman Begins Batman is out to hunt down a crime
mafia in Gotham City, until a criminal named The Joker wants to make Batman fall victim to his
schemes, The Joker puts Gotham City into terror and obligates Batman to choose between being a
hero or a vigilante. Christian Bale plays Bruce Wayne also known as Batman, the protagonist who
protects the citizens of Gotham City, but at the same time throughout the movie he is forced to be in
difficult situations and has to make difficult decisions. At the same time the police department
considers him a vigilante, because Batman acts outside of the law fighting crime differently. The

The Dark Knight By Christopher Nolan
The movie the Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Heath Ledger and Christian
Bale, exhibits a wide variety of different psychological principles and theories. The Dark Knight is
about the popular superhero, originating from the year of our Lord nineteen thirty nine, Batman and
his struggle to preserve the order in the city of Gotham, where he was born and raised. He is
challenged by the strongest adversary he has ever met, a disturbed name that goes by the name the
Joker, when he claims that everyday Batman doesn't give up his identity he will kill people. With the
combined efforts of Harvey Dent, the plucky new District Attorney in Gotham, the police and their
chief, Commissioner Gordon, and the of the vigilante Batman the Joker is brought down when the
people of Gotham prove to him that they are prepared to believe in the natural goodness of people.
However, before he is defeated he leaves a dark mark on the city of Gotham. While many of the
psychological factors in the The Dark Knight are under the branch of Abnormal Psychology
regarding the Joker and his schizophrenic henchmen, In my analysis of The Dark Knight I will be
focusing on the principles of deindividuation, the fundamental attribution error, and group
polarization. Deindividuation is the idea that when someone is in a group and there is little risk of
them being criticised or recognized that they will do things that they normally would not do. They
lose their awareness because they feel like

Analysis Of The Movie ' The Dark Knight '
"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" (The Dark
Knight). There is a certain monstrosity that lives inside of everyone, and all it takes is a particular
situation to highlight this truth. Monstrosity destroys the categories that humans tend to place
objects and people into. When one contemplates what classifies as monstrous, many immediately
consider biological categories that a monster might shatter. Nevertheless, a monster's actions can
also lead to a fracturing of categorization, such as in The Dark Knight (2008) when Gotham's
district attorney Harvey Dent becomes the villainous Two–Face. Throughout the movie, Dent
evolves from a symbol of hope and justice, to a vengeful anarchist determined ... Show more content

The most obvious instance of monstrosity is Dent's appearance once becoming Two–Face. While
Dent survived an explosion, his appearance would never be the same. Due to this event, Dent was
reborn as Two–Face. Half of his face remained unchanged from the explosion, however the other
half was burned beyond recognition. In the scene where Dent's new appearance is revealed, the
viewer at first cannot see the maimed side of his face. As he becomes more irritated with Gordon,
however, he turns his face and the monstrous side of him is revealed. This categorical contamination
is an example of someone who is both alive and dead. Dent is, quite literally, half alive and half
dead in appearance. On one side, he looks like a completely healthy, normal person, just as he was
before the accident. Nevertheless, the other side of his face is charred and the skin is torn from his
muscles. He is no longer capable of being the "Face of Gotham." Appearance is not the only feature
in which Dent is both alive and dead. While still physically alive, this is only so that he can fulfill
his quest for vengeance. While the death of Rachel destroys the person he was, it also creates a new
reason for the monstrous form of him to survive. His one mission is to find every person in any way
attached to Rachel's death and hold them responsible in his own twisted version of fairness. Dent's
metaphorical death of the good person he once was,

The Dark Knight Unraveled
When someone says "superhero," it is automatically assumed that one is talking about someone who
saves others using extraordinary powers or someone who is there to protect and make others feel
safe. For decades, superheroes have been around fighting crime and saving civilians from the
villains that reign. These superheroes create a light and give the viewer some kind of hope. Although
a superhero is seen as someone who is god–like, there is one hero who defies this stereotype. His
name: Batman. Batman has been around for nearly seventy–five years and has evolved into a a very
controversial character. Some people may see Batman as a dark figure who is not a hero, but a
nuisance, while others may see him as something greater than a superhero. In Christopher Nolan's,
The Dark Knight, released in 2008, Batman is a character who is seen in a different way than
previous iterations. Instead of just a crime–fighting hero, Batman is presented as something greater
as well as something some may overlook. In Nolan's 2008 film, Batman portrays a character that not
only relates to society on a person level, but also parallels the Bush administration post 9/11.
Imagine watching the ones you love, murdered right before your eyes. At a young age, Batman had
to watch his parents get shot and killed by a ruthless mugger. Batman had this tragic childhood
which is something many young people today can relate to. Professor of Psychology at Henderson

The Dark Knight Analysis
The Dark Knight is a superhero movie and is part of a sequel. It comes second after Batman Begins.
It is a fantastic movie directed by Christopher Nolan. The main Theme of this movie is Faith. The
plot and Characters develop this theme in a few ways. When the film opens up we have a bank
robbery scene in the city of gotham and we encounter the joker, our antagonist. Because of this we
see a chain of crimes happening around the city and the people of Gotham turn their faith toward the
Batman. This is the basic plot of the film where the protagonists are trying to restore people's faith
back into the city and the police force. The characters develop this theme by carrying out the plot of
the film and helping restore faith back into the city. The visual design plays a big role in developing
the film's theme. A majority of the time the films color is dark and the colors palate that is used is to
the darker side. The setting of this movie is determiner of character because it takes place in a
setting that Batman doesn't have too much control over and he is working to protect that and survive
in that place. We also see a setting for sheer visual impact at times such as when we see a deep focus
camera shot of the entire city and see how much chaos is going on and what the protagonists are
trying to do to restore faith back into the city. The functions of the setting in this film also have
symbolic significance to the theme and it impacts it very much. We mostly see this in the

While the prior two texts focus of the social and political aspects of manipulation, a different more
sinister theme of manipulation is expressed in 'The Dark Knight'. Manipulation in this film feeds off
another theme of human nature. This type of manipulation is somewhat more relevant in our day
today because as a human we go through highs and lows which leave us vulnerable. During the film
Harvey Dent's fiance is brutally killed in the plot which left him with only half a face. The series of
events which Dent struggled through left him vulnerable, just the right moment for The Joker to
'influence' him. A mid shot shows Harvey Dent's whole expression, at the beginning of the hospital

The number of movies adapted from comic books has, in recent years, become more and more
popular, and more comic book films are being released now than in the past. In this essay I will
explore the reasons why this pattern has emerged and potential reasons for 'the prevalence of comic
book adaptations in post 9/11 cinema'.
The Dark Knight: Throughout The Dark Knight the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are continuously
mirrored; terrorism as an overall theme is also reflected throughout the movie, Phillip French of the
Guardian newspaper states that The Dark Knight shows us a 'post 9/11 Manichaean view of the
world'. Even within the initial marketing of the film and in the various viral campaigns employed,
we see reflections of the 9/11 attacks on New York. In one of the main advertising posters for the
movie we see the protagonist Batman standing in the fore ground of the picture, in front of a huge
sky scraping building, not unfamiliar to one of the Twin Towers, the top of the building is ablaze,
with; brick, ash and various pieces of shrapnel falling to the ground. With this powerful image we,
before we have even seen the movie, receive flashbacks of the tragic events of 9/11. The poster as
well as promoting Batman, makes us subconsciously, maybe naively, want to see the movie as it is
related to the horrible attacks on New York. Again in relation to the 9/11 attacks, people may want to
watch the film to see how terrorism is portrayed in the movie,

The Movie ' The Dark Knight ' Essay
The movie The Dark Knight (2008) is in the genre of superhero films. Superhero films are movies
that deal with vigilantes saving the city from criminals. Since the release of superhero films,
criminals have become more evil, heroes have become more violent and victims have become more
innocent. They have also become more graphic and the crimes have become more unjustifiable.
Crime is a key component of superhero hero films and is often used to show injustice towards the
state. To control crime, society has to try and deter crime by adding punishment that outweigh the
rewards. Some people are biologically more crime oriented than others and it creates natural born
criminals such as the Joker, the main antagonist in the movie who constantly challenges the notion
of justice. He becomes personal with Batman forcing him to come face to face with his ideals, trying
to show him how irrational being good is. Batman, in turn, attempts to put a stop to the Joker's
anarchy with the technology at his disposal. Harvey Dent is considered a symbol of hope because he
relentlessly pursues criminals through legal means as Gotham's District Attorney. The Criminal
Justice System is then corrupted by the Joker, which results in the death of Rachel Dawes, Harvey's
girlfriend. The two of them were captured by corrupt police officers and tied to explosives in two
different buildings all while the Joker was in prison. The Joker then tricks batman into saving
Harvey when he thought that he was going

The Dark Knight

  • 1. The Dark Knight 2012 was a great year for nerds like myself. The Avengers, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and The Dark Knight Rises all came out during this year. Each movie piqued the anticipation of fans everywhere. For me, the last of these three seemed the most intriguing. Christopher Nolan, fresh off the brilliant Inception was concluding his epic The Dark Knight Trilogy. The Dark Knight became one of the best sequels ever, so I expected The Dark Knight Rises to live up to Batman Begins, at least. Unfortunately, lightning did not strike twice because The Dark Knight Rises, while still a good movie, is the worst in the trilogy. This film takes place eight years after the awe–inspiring events of The Dark Knight. The lies told at the end of the previous film have served their purpose. Gotham has become a cleaner, more crime– free city than ever before. But not all is well. Bruce Wayne (Christiaan Bale reprising his role) has become a recluse. Jim Gordon (played again by Gary Oldman) feels overwhelmed by guilt. To top it all off, Gotham faces a new terrorist threat from an unknown entity known as Bane (Tom Hardy). To combat Bane, Batman must return from his self–imposed exile to save Gotham once more. All the returning actors give worthy performances in their respective roles, which they have made their own. Christian Bale simply inhabits Batman at this point, and he adds more depth to Bruce Wayne in this third movie. Morgan Freeman provides a characteristically on point performance as ... • 3. The Dark Knight Analysis When you think of psychology what is the the first name that comes to mind? My guess is that you thought of Sigmund Freud. Even though none of his theories of dreams or sexuality have any empirical evidence, he is still one of the most influential figures in all of philosophy. One of Freud's ideas that does have substance is the idea that our minds are dynamic and contain both conscious and unconscious memories, thoughts, and desires. Freud labeled these phenomena the id, ego, and superego. While the nuances of this theory are complex and somewhat monotonous, they are brought to life in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. The chaotic and childish joker (id), the pure and valiant Harvey Dent (superego), and the one responsible for finding a balance between the two, Batman (ego). "The id is the completely unconscious, impulsive, childlike portion of the psyche that operates on the "pleasure principle" and is the source of basic impulses and drives; it seeks immediate pleasure and gratification." (Boundless, par. 5) The most memorable scenes in The Dark Knight begin with the Joker asking, "You wanna know how I got these scars?" (Nolan) and every time he gives a different reason. The first is that "My father, was a drinker, and a fiend. And one night, he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me and says, 'Why so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Dark Knight Themes The Dark Knight – A Power Struggle Batman, a name synonymous with the word hero. He was first introduced to the world in Detective Comics #27 (artist Bob Kane, writer Bill Finger, 1939). He quickly became a fan favourite and has since then seen numerous film, television, and video game adaptations. The first film adaptation being Batman (Lambert Hillyer, 1943), a mere 4 years after his introduction in 1939. Throughout his tenured career Batman has faced numerous villains, each of them reinforcing the themes of evil vs good, power, and anarchy vs order. The themes are especially prevalent when Batman faces off against his arch–rival, and foil, the Joker. In The Dark Knight (Christopher Nolan, 2008) these themes are perfectly encapsulated in the Joker interrogation scene. Almost an hour and half into the film is when the interrogation scene takes place. The scene lasts for approximately five minutes and is comprised of 79 cuts. In a way, the scene almost has three acts. It starts off with the Joker's perspective of Commissioner Gordon entering the room to begin his interrogation of the Joker. The Joker is framed to the right, while Gordon is framed to the left. From the very first shot of the scene, the theme of power is presented. The over the shoulder shot, combined with a slight dolly in, conveys to the audience that Joker is the one in control. As Gordon walks up we see that the Joker is completely shrouded in darkness, with only his face being visible. This portrays the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Joker In The Dark Knight The Dark Knight opens with a classic robbery scene that makes the argument, that there is a code among criminals that should be adhered to. Towards the end of the scene we see the bank manager talking to the Joker exclaiming that criminals used to have honor and respect for one another, an honor among thieves. The Joker does not share this same "honor" and will do what he wants, like murder the people who help him rob the bank, to bring chaos and mayhem to Gotham. This argument could be made by both the Joker and the Director of the film in order to show how different the Joker is from any normal criminal. As shown later on in the film when he burns large piles of money, the Joker does not care for money and material things like most mobsters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mobsters in this film have respect for one another and know not to tamper with someone else's territory. However, the Joker is not a mobster, he is a psychopath that knows how to manipulate people by using money and scare tactics. The Joker does not rob the mob's banks because of the money, he robs them to show the mob that respect only goes as far as the dollar you are giving. In Gotham, every criminal knows their place in the large scheme of things and they do try and break the mold because of the fear and "respect" they have for the mob bosses. When the bank manager says that the Joker has no respect for who he is robbing, the audience should see the Joker as the worst of criminals because he does not adhere to any code. The audience should think that the Joker is the worst of the criminals in Gotham because he has no respect for the people helping him with his plans, they are just pawns in his larger scheme. The general audience should know that the Joker is the main villain to Batman, but what this scene shows is that he does not like to work with others because of their differences in goals. The people that were employed by the Joker went blind because of the money they were going to get and failed to realize that they were working for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Dark Knight Analysis In 1989, Batman's revival in cinema has awakened with Tim Burton's Batman, which adapted the past comic book iteration of the hero as a dark and broody hero. It establishes the epic rivalry between Batman and his greatest nemesis, the Joker. Although, the movie's core audience gained further significance with the young or comic book readers, relative to the general audience. Reviews from critics received positive acclaim, but few noted that the film was gloomy. After many poorly received sequels such as Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin, many fans lost faith with the caped crusader will ever have another successful film. In 2008, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight where the return of the rivalry between Batman and the Joker presents again on the silver screen. The film's release received high critical acclaim, and us nominated for six Academy Awards and winning two for Best Supporting Actor and Best Sound Editing. While Tim Burton's film remains successful, its popularity increased with the comic book or younger demographic. Christopher Nolan's modern adaptation of the superhero resulted in more positive acclaims with the general audience due to its mature and modern tones rather than Tim Burton's film receiving general to average ratings. One of the biggest factors of this is realized with the art and presentation. Most obvious is the design of the Batsuit. While both movies share the core design of a dark and sleek costume, Christopher Nolan's design is influenced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Analysis Of ' The Dark Knight ' The caped crusader is one of the most famous super heroes ever. Bruce Wayne is the man behind the mask that is a debonair, successful heir to his family's business. From his bat cave to his black suit, Batman is recognized as being a superhero that metes out justice with fairness and efficiency, but what would be said if Batman and Wayne was a superhero with a mental disorder? Post–traumatic stress disorder is a trauma stress disorder that occurs frequently in combat veterans, natural disaster survivors, and even motor vehicle accidents (Nevid, Rathus, and Greene 149). The Dark Knight is the second movie of a trilogy about the caped crusader himself, Batman. The Dark Knight begins with Bruce Wayne, a rich heir to Wayne Enterprises and now head man for the business, portraying a busy life while secretly fighting crime in Gotham city as Batman. Bruce Wayne has a love interest in a woman and childhood friend of Rachel that was introduced in the first movie of the trilogy. Rachel is aware that Wayne is Batman. Bruce keeps from being in a relationship with Rachel due to the risks to her life if someone were to find out that he is Batman. Also, it was to save her from heartache knowing that each night he goes out could be the last he lives. The main antagonist of the movie is the villain Joker. Not much of a storyline about his past is present in the movie and he is mostly an enigma. The main things we learn about the Joker's past are from a scene with Wayne in his bat cave ... • 13. The Dark Knight And Inception There are many successful directors who have produced at least one blockbuster film that is critically acclaimed, and Christopher Nolan has been able to do this several times. Christopher Nolan began directing movies in 1998 and has directed fourteen movies since 1998. The film critic Alissa Wilkinson notes in her article The films of Christopher Nolan, explained, "Nolan has shown himself to be interested in both entertaining audiences and making them think, in pushing the boundaries of what they believe a movie can and should be". Christopher Nolan also often deals with the subjects of time, memory, and life philosophies that drive movies and characters. Two of Nolan's most prominent films through his whole career have been the Dark Knight(2008) and Inception(2010). Both of the films show how Nolan's movies end ambiguously and how each protagonists in his films has an antagonist with opposite philosophies and beliefs. Inception is a film that contains a protagonist and antagonists with opposing philosophical views and beliefs. The movie includes examples of the belief that the world is real conflicting with the belief that the world is a dream with death as the only way out. For instance in one part of the movie Dom is argueing with Mal that they are in the real world as they both stand on the window ledge of opposing buildings. Mal begs Dom to come with her as she says this world is a dream and that the only way to wake up is by jumping.Dom tries to tell her that they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Dark Knight Film Analysis Burning. Massive flames. A dark shape emerges. Growing. Filling the space with blackness. Blinding light, moving over the towers of a city. The light closes in on the buildings, consuming them, consuming you. Can't escape, can't breathe, completely overwhelmed. When suddenly you hear "CUT!", and find yourself on a movie set, watching a scene that just get shot, back in the real world. That feeling you experienced, surrendering yourself, your senses is called suspension of disbelief. The willingness to suspend one's critical facilities and believe the unbelievable. This disbelief is not in used in film but in art as well. The scene described above is from a piece called London's Burning by Chris Sheldrake, but you would also see some of the same aesthetics in the opening title sequence of The Dark Knight. All art forms feed of each other and by using three movies and their corresponding pieces of art, I will illustrate the influence that each of these individual images had on their respective films. How art inspires cinema. The Dark Knight was the second entry in The Dark Knight Trilogy directed by Christopher Nolan. He is an English film director, screenwriter, and producer. One of the highest–grossing directors in history, and among the most acclaimed filmmakers in the 21st century. In a world where comic book movies reign supreme, Nolan's work with Batman stands outs above the rest. He made a world where somebody was willing to put on a cape and a mask believable by ... • 17. Heterosexuality In The Dark Knight The Dark Knight, a fictional film, portrays the havoc that takes place on the citizens of Gotham City as Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, tries to fight injustice while moral dilemmas are being thrown at him. The struggles that he face ties into hegemonic norms, which are the social, cultural, ideological, or economic influence exerted by a dominant group (Dr. Burke). This includes the Joker's challenging the hegemony, the heroic face, Batman's heterosexuality and male power identity, and Rachel Dawes's assisting Bruce's hegemony in anyway that she can. The Dark Knight is not just a tale of good and evil, but a complex puzzle where the citizens of Gotham are blaming Batman for the deaths of innocent people and policemen. While the Joker, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With every challenge he faces, he demonstratively consolidates his superiority while wearing his costume, denoting his personal sharpness and aggressiveness. Batman's identity is so tied with male and heterosexual hegemony that any threat to it feels like an attack. This relationship is identified when Batman lost his own parents from a homicidal maniac who was a threat to social order. This explains why Batman reasserts his authority by beating the Joker, a character who seemingly has a "feminine" mind and a "male" body that could be interpreted as a reminder to Batman of the action performed by his father. Batman's continual beating of the Joker demonstrates strength, which illustrates the dominance of the male and heterosexual hegemony in the society according to the patriarchal guidelines. Batman wants to undertake the Joker in order to prove his physical strength to get the Joker into submission. Batman tries to make his male and heterosexuality gender norms into reality, thus justifying his existence (Peaslee, 140). This assists him in making his normative male and heterosexuality into a powerful patriarchal hegemony that allows him to exceed his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Hidden Motifs In The Dark Knight The Dark Knight (2008) directed by Christopher Nolan, cinematography by Wally Pfister. The Dark Knight (2008), directed by Christopher Nolan is an action thriller that leaves you at the edge of your seat. Batman ( Christian Bale) battles with the antagonist Joker throughout the movie, while Batman mends the Jokers corruptions all through the city. I would recommend The Dark Knight and rate it a ⅘ because it displays many hidden motifs throughout. One of the motifs displays that even the most evil of people have good in them, but also good people have bad in them too. Batman and the Joker are an iconic duo that need each other to continue the lives that they live. The third motif throughout the movie is a the minor but pertinent theme of romance thrown into the thrill seeking movie. There is good and bad in everyone, and the right situation will show a person's true colors. The inmates on the boat play a key example of this. One of the inmates on the boat takes the detonator and throws it out the window instead of blowing up the other boat. Another example is Harvey Dent, and the persuasion of the Joker to turn him bad. Harvey is well liked in the beginning but after Harvey's incident. Joker influences Harvey to join him, thus, Harvey tries to kill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 21. Philosophical Analysis Of The Dark Knight Philosophical Analysis of The Dark Knight The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, is an action–packed movie set in the fictional city of Gotham. It is a real–life film based on the marvelous comic book hero, Batman. Throughout the movie, there are many philosophical themes portrayed. After closely analyzing the film, I found that some of the most distinct ideas would be that of Hobbes' theory of human nature. More specifically, Hobbes' idea that without the security that society offers, humans will become fearful and chaotic. Humans are prone to look towards an authority figure that can provide them protection, and when that figure is taken away, they go into anarchy. There are two main characters that the storyline revolves around, Batman and the Joker. Batman serves as the guardian of Gotham City. The Joker, however, stands as the villain who strives to create a world of chaos. Hobbes' theory on state of nature says that society is the sole reason that humans act civilized. Hobbes' believes in the "state of war,", which is a way of life that is proven to be brutal and short. The Joker's main goal is to prove that people have the natural capability to do evil. While he attempts to prove this throughout his many twisted plans, he is driven to eliminate the one thing that keeps Gotham City from turning hopeless and chaotic, Batman. Without its protector, Gotham City would soon turn to a "state of war." Hobbes' also says, "Fear makes natural man want to escape the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Dark Knight Figures In 'The Dark Knight Rises' Monica Yip Carrie Jean Schroeder English 1C 30 August 2017 (WORKING TITLE) Batman's duality as hero and hazard reflect how the capitalism present in America is both the problem and solution. As the third installment in the Batman trilogy, a different tone is used when the hero is introduced in the beginning scene. In the preceding films, the hero has been seen righting wrongs and serving justice by banishing the manipulative, toxic and evil villains Gotham is infested with. In the opening scene of The Dark Knight Rises, Commissioner Gordon delivers a speech to honor the late Harvey Dent, former Gotham mayor, and his major contribution in ridding the city's criminal activity. Dent was a symbol of hope and restoration from the economic decline Gotham faced and the gang activity that terrorized the streets. Batman 2: The Dark Knight introduced the villainous Joker and his psychotic madness which led to Dent's own decline when the madman kills Dent's lover. This sparked Dent's own madness and list of homicides. Wanting to preserve the hope Dent instilled onto the people and prevent chaos, Batman takes the blame for Dent's transgression. And so, begins the duality of Batman. Batman is the alter ego of wealthy and successful business man, Bruce Wayne. Wayne's parents were tragically murdered right in front of him when he was young by an armed robber. This was the moment Wayne took an oath to himself that he would rid his city of the injustice and crime that killed his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Dark Knight Sparknotes I am going to write a film analysis essay for the film The Dark Knight. My chosen essay topic is: Analyse how visual or sound effects were used to emphasise a theme in the visual or oral text(s). I need to show how the main themes of showing morality when making decisions and the power held by the villain are presented in the film through the use of dialogue, camerawork, sound, and editing. I will refer to the scene when The Joker announces his social experiment and he and Batman have their final fight, The Ferry Scene, for my specific example. So, who's it going to be: Harvey Dent's most wanted scumbag collection, or the sweet and innocent civilians? You choose... Oh, and you might want to decide quickly because the people on the other boat might not be so noble." This is The Joker's way of giving the passengers an ultimatum. Live and kill, or be killed. His experiment furthers the effect of his actions as an anarchist on the people of Gotham, as the passengers are left in shock and have to make a life or death decision in such a small amount of time. The lack of hesitation in his relaxed voice makes it clear to the audience that this was a well–rehearsed and planned announcement. He had organised this and was then ready to begin to carry out his experiment, in which he expected at least one boat full of people to die as a result. This showed the power and control he had as Gotham's villain because in just one statement he was able to terrorise people and leave them with such as difficult decision to make. All scenarios he had implied to the passengers resulted in at least one ferry being blown up, while he would remain unaffected by the outcome. As well as creating a feeling of fear and suspense for the audience, who are watching the scene play out to discover the outcome, it also makes the viewer question: What is the right and wrong decision to make? • 27. Complexity In The Dark Knight In the film 'The Dark Knight' by Christopher Nolan, one of the main ideas is the complexity of morality. This means that if something seems wrong, it doesn't necessarily mean it is, it could seem wrong but in the end, just be a journey to the greater good. Batman shows many different examples of this throughout the film where he is disobeying the law but saving the day. Batman is a symbol that represents the complexity of morality. This is shown by colour and costume. Batman always wears black, and black typically represents the darkness as well as evil. Therefore, it is weird for a hero, who is a good do–er, to wear a black costume. His costume is fully black, including his mask, and looks extremely intimidating. It is quite scary, and if ... There is a shaky–camera shot of the batman brutally beating up the joker which is morally wrong, but Batman is sticking to his morals about not ever killing a human being, no matter how sick and psycho they are. The shaky–camera shot was used extremely well in this scene as it shows us how batman was feeling, he would've been terrified and nervous and he probably wanted to murder the Joker. The shaky–camera acts as if someone was standing there and recording while shaking because they were so scared. The complexity of morality is also shown in this scene by lighting. In this scene, the lights turn off and it becomes pitch black, then out of nowhere batman appears from the shadows. Batman hides just like a villain would, even in the rest of the film, Batman is always in the dark and moves without being seen. Nolan used lighting extremely well to show us the true colours of batman. He is a person who is good but bad at the same time. He disobeys the laws and hides in the darkness only to save the day in a way that is morally complex. Nolan wanted us to think about the complexity of morality in this scene as sometimes we could think that something is right but in the end, it's not the most responsible and manly thing to do. Even though Batman was extremely angry, beating up the Joker would do nothing. Plus the joker knew he wouldn't kill him because that is against Batman's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Lighting : The Dark Knight Lighting creates an atmosphere for the setting; it establishes the overall tone for what the audience is able to receive. Lighting is a key aspect in filming, as it can transform tones from scene to scene to create a certain subliminal meaning. For instance, the contrasting light from character to character allows the viewer to understand the differences between them such as their values and overall message. Throughout the movie "The Dark Knight" lighting allows for the directors subliminal meaning to come through. As the name of the movie suggests, "The Dark Knight," the overall tone of the movie is set in the darkness. This dark atmosphere allows for an eerie feeling, tension to build up, and an anxious feeling for the viewer. This corresponds with how the movie itself is broken down because the most intense scenes are when the light goes down. As well, lighting is so important in film because without it, the viewer would not be able to correspond with the visuals. For instance, silent films relied on the visuals to impact the viewer. Furthermore, the introduction of colour to film made lighting much more important to get correct because having distractions would be unpleasant to the viewer. The underlying meaning behind the lighting choices within the film will be shown by the protagonist, antagonist and the overall atmosphere within the movie. In regards to the protagonist group, the lighting is used to highlight the good that resides within them. Their characters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This, being the Jokers only reason to live, he has no fear of death and pain. Camera angles is one technique that helps develops this characteristic as it is a low angle tilt, to show that The Joker is superior and a dominant figure in this scene. The angle almost is intended to be a view point from the bank owner. Which makes the bank owner to feel vulnerable. In this shot, Lighting is also a very effective technique that shows his minimal. The lighting is dark, only exposing half of his face, this gives the feeling of fear and distress. Also, to add to this characteristic of minimal empathy, dialogue is another effective technique. The Joker says, "What doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger." Almost in confident hysterics The Joker walks off with the peg to the fake grenade in the bankers mouth. This develops his character as a criminal with minimal empathy and lack of moral, as he doesn't care about conforming to society. The Joker, is a purposeless criminal. With awards totaling south of over seventy total wins and over 100 nominations, the Dark Knight Rises remains to be everything a film needs to be to always remain a timeless classic. The method the team used to overwhelm the world with this immaculate trilogy was to create the last installment as more than just a film, but as a piece of art as well. Many methods were used to reach this profound approach to filmmaking, however it was the brilliant cinematography, the acting that brought the characters to life, and the director's genius ending that transitioned the Dark Knight Rises from an ordinary film, into an admired piece of art to all. One of the major reasons for the success of the Dark Knight Rises film is because of its award winning cinematography that the brilliant Mr. Wally Pfister orchestrated throughout the vigorous 3– hour film. • 45. The Dark Knight Codes And Conventions Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight is not a film normally considered a member of the western genre by any means. The western genre is meant to captivate a viewer with action on the frontier of the ol' west. From bank robberies to mining towns wanted for land, the western brought many new film plots and characteristics to the big screen. The main appeal of westerns started dying off in the late 1900s but that has not stopped modern day film makers from producing them. Films such as Django Unchained (2012), True Grit (2010), The Magnificent Seven (2016), and The Dark Knight (2008) all have revamped the western genre in the early 2000s by bringing new modern twists and stories to the genre. Now many would wonder as to why The Dark Knight is listed here as a western, and the short and simple response is that it is a western and can be considered so for multiple reasons, such as characters, the fight between good and evil, setting, and the fact that it compares very well to another well–known western, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence. All of these reasons come together to make The Dark Knight a certified western. The characters of The Dark Knight are one of the biggest reasons many could consider this movie to be a western. This is the main technique used throughout the film as they are plenty of examples of this technique. The lighting of the scene is low key and the audience can not see where batman comes from because he is also wearing dark clothing which emits not signs of light. Another example is how Batman runs away from the police officers who now believe he is a vigilante, the police officers try and capture batman while holding torches as the Batman runs deep into the dark unseen by both the police officers nor the audience. Low key lighting was a very essential technique used by the director because it made the whole film very dramatic and showed the audience that the underworld of Gotham was a place full of crime, no hope and in need of a hero to help clean and protect the city. "Batman" (Christian Bale) is viewed as a source of vigilante justice by a majority of the city, more or less a scapegoat for the city's misfortunes. The situation in Gotham takes a turn for the worse once a sadistic psychopath named "Joker" (Heath Ledger) appears for the first time. The Joker's crime wave begins small, but through his ability to manipulate and deceive, he begins to change the culture in Gotham. Writer/Director Christopher Nolan's second installment to Batman Begins successfully progresses past the story's origins in the last film, creating characters that undergo noticeable development. Nolan throws us into a post 9/11 world, with obvious themes of domestic terrorism embedded throughout an urban setting. Although the film may be labeled as dark by many, The Dark Knight, captures its audience from the beginning through Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker and through its complex themes. The entirety of The Dark Knight is enshrouded in a cloud of darkness from the beginning, then taking away its greatest asset towards the end. Any element of humor used in this film is dark humor to say the very least. • 65. The Dark Knight By Christopher Nolan The movie the Dark Knight directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Heath Ledger and Christian Bale, exhibits a wide variety of different psychological principles and theories. The Dark Knight is about the popular superhero, originating from the year of our Lord nineteen thirty nine, Batman and his struggle to preserve the order in the city of Gotham, where he was born and raised. He is challenged by the strongest adversary he has ever met, a disturbed name that goes by the name the Joker, when he claims that everyday Batman doesn't give up his identity he will kill people. With the combined efforts of Harvey Dent, the plucky new District Attorney in Gotham, the police and their chief, Commissioner Gordon, and the of the vigilante Batman the Joker is brought down when the people of Gotham prove to him that they are prepared to believe in the natural goodness of people. However, before he is defeated he leaves a dark mark on the city of Gotham. While many of the psychological factors in the The Dark Knight are under the branch of Abnormal Psychology regarding the Joker and his schizophrenic henchmen, In my analysis of The Dark Knight I will be focusing on the principles of deindividuation, the fundamental attribution error, and group polarization. Deindividuation is the idea that when someone is in a group and there is little risk of them being criticised or recognized that they will do things that they normally would not do. They lose their awareness because they feel like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Analysis Of The Movie ' The Dark Knight ' "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" (The Dark Knight). There is a certain monstrosity that lives inside of everyone, and all it takes is a particular situation to highlight this truth. Monstrosity destroys the categories that humans tend to place objects and people into. When one contemplates what classifies as monstrous, many immediately consider biological categories that a monster might shatter. Nevertheless, a monster's actions can also lead to a fracturing of categorization, such as in The Dark Knight (2008) when Gotham's district attorney Harvey Dent becomes the villainous Two–Face. Throughout the movie, Dent evolves from a symbol of hope and justice, to a vengeful anarchist determined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most obvious instance of monstrosity is Dent's appearance once becoming Two–Face. While Dent survived an explosion, his appearance would never be the same. Due to this event, Dent was reborn as Two–Face. Half of his face remained unchanged from the explosion, however the other half was burned beyond recognition. In the scene where Dent's new appearance is revealed, the viewer at first cannot see the maimed side of his face. As he becomes more irritated with Gordon, however, he turns his face and the monstrous side of him is revealed. This categorical contamination is an example of someone who is both alive and dead. Dent is, quite literally, half alive and half dead in appearance. On one side, he looks like a completely healthy, normal person, just as he was before the accident. Nevertheless, the other side of his face is charred and the skin is torn from his muscles. He is no longer capable of being the "Face of Gotham." Appearance is not the only feature in which Dent is both alive and dead. While still physically alive, this is only so that he can fulfill his quest for vengeance. While the death of Rachel destroys the person he was, it also creates a new reason for the monstrous form of him to survive. His one mission is to find every person in any way attached to Rachel's death and hold them responsible in his own twisted version of fairness. Dent's metaphorical death of the good person he once was, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. The Dark Knight Unraveled When someone says "superhero," it is automatically assumed that one is talking about someone who saves others using extraordinary powers or someone who is there to protect and make others feel safe. For decades, superheroes have been around fighting crime and saving civilians from the villains that reign. These superheroes create a light and give the viewer some kind of hope. Although a superhero is seen as someone who is god–like, there is one hero who defies this stereotype. His name: Batman. Batman has been around for nearly seventy–five years and has evolved into a a very controversial character. Some people may see Batman as a dark figure who is not a hero, but a nuisance, while others may see him as something greater than a superhero. In Christopher Nolan's, The Dark Knight, released in 2008, Batman is a character who is seen in a different way than previous iterations. Instead of just a crime–fighting hero, Batman is presented as something greater as well as something some may overlook. In Nolan's 2008 film, Batman portrays a character that not only relates to society on a person level, but also parallels the Bush administration post 9/11. Imagine watching the ones you love, murdered right before your eyes. At a young age, Batman had to watch his parents get shot and killed by a ruthless mugger. Batman had this tragic childhood which is something many young people today can relate to. Professor of Psychology at Henderson State University, Dr. Travis Langly, ... • 71. The Dark Knight Analysis The Dark Knight is a superhero movie and is part of a sequel. It comes second after Batman Begins. It is a fantastic movie directed by Christopher Nolan. The main Theme of this movie is Faith. The plot and Characters develop this theme in a few ways. When the film opens up we have a bank robbery scene in the city of gotham and we encounter the joker, our antagonist. Because of this we see a chain of crimes happening around the city and the people of Gotham turn their faith toward the Batman. This is the basic plot of the film where the protagonists are trying to restore people's faith back into the city and the police force. The characters develop this theme by carrying out the plot of the film and helping restore faith back into the city. The visual design plays a big role in developing the film's theme. A majority of the time the films color is dark and the colors palate that is used is to the darker side. The setting of this movie is determiner of character because it takes place in a setting that Batman doesn't have too much control over and he is working to protect that and survive in that place. We also see a setting for sheer visual impact at times such as when we see a deep focus camera shot of the entire city and see how much chaos is going on and what the protagonists are trying to do to restore faith back into the city. The functions of the setting in this film also have symbolic significance to the theme and it impacts it very much. We mostly see this in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Manipulation In The Dark Knight While the prior two texts focus of the social and political aspects of manipulation, a different more sinister theme of manipulation is expressed in 'The Dark Knight'. Manipulation in this film feeds off another theme of human nature. This type of manipulation is somewhat more relevant in our day today because as a human we go through highs and lows which leave us vulnerable. During the film Harvey Dent's fiance is brutally killed in the plot which left him with only half a face. The series of events which Dent struggled through left him vulnerable, just the right moment for The Joker to 'influence' him. A mid shot shows Harvey Dent's whole expression, at the beginning of the hospital scene we can physically see Harvey is enraged at the sight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Dark Knight Adaptations Introduction: In 2005 Christopher Nolan spearheaded the commercial re–boot of the Batman franchise with the movie Batman Begins, the movie achieved wide critical acclaim, and, subsequently generated, talk of a sequel. In the summer of 2008, after a vast amount of advertising and viral marketing, the highly anticipated sequel was finally released. Due to Ledger's untimely death the film gained even more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The number of movies adapted from comic books has, in recent years, become more and more popular, and more comic book films are being released now than in the past. In this essay I will explore the reasons why this pattern has emerged and potential reasons for 'the prevalence of comic book adaptations in post 9/11 cinema'. The Dark Knight: Throughout The Dark Knight the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are continuously mirrored; terrorism as an overall theme is also reflected throughout the movie, Phillip French of the Guardian newspaper states that The Dark Knight shows us a 'post 9/11 Manichaean view of the world'. Even within the initial marketing of the film and in the various viral campaigns employed, we see reflections of the 9/11 attacks on New York. In one of the main advertising posters for the movie we see the protagonist Batman standing in the fore ground of the picture, in front of a huge sky scraping building, not unfamiliar to one of the Twin Towers, the top of the building is ablaze, with; brick, ash and various pieces of shrapnel falling to the ground. With this powerful image we, before we have even seen the movie, receive flashbacks of the tragic events of 9/11. The poster as well as promoting Batman, makes us subconsciously, maybe naively, want to see the movie as it is related to the horrible attacks on New York. Again in relation to the 9/11 attacks, people may want to watch the film to see how terrorism is portrayed in the movie, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. The Movie ' The Dark Knight ' Essay The movie The Dark Knight (2008) is in the genre of superhero films. Superhero films are movies that deal with vigilantes saving the city from criminals. Since the release of superhero films, criminals have become more evil, heroes have become more violent and victims have become more innocent. They have also become more graphic and the crimes have become more unjustifiable. Crime is a key component of superhero hero films and is often used to show injustice towards the state. To control crime, society has to try and deter crime by adding punishment that outweigh the rewards. Some people are biologically more crime oriented than others and it creates natural born criminals such as the Joker, the main antagonist in the movie who constantly challenges the notion of justice. He becomes personal with Batman forcing him to come face to face with his ideals, trying to show him how irrational being good is. Batman, in turn, attempts to put a stop to the Joker's anarchy with the technology at his disposal. Harvey Dent is considered a symbol of hope because he relentlessly pursues criminals through legal means as Gotham's District Attorney. The Criminal Justice System is then corrupted by the Joker, which results in the death of Rachel Dawes, Harvey's girlfriend. The two of them were captured by corrupt police officers and tied to explosives in two different buildings all while the Joker was in prison. The Joker then tricks batman into saving Harvey when he thought that he was going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
