My Nightmare Short Story
Living my nightmare. I am a sophomore at Sacred Heart University In Fairfield Connecticut. My
home is Trumbull Connecticut. I had dreams to adventure as far away as possible for school. I had
dreams of traveling and seeing the world and using my education as my excuse. But, I am a
commuter at Sacred Heart University and travel all of 12 minutes to get from my home to my
education. How all my dreams to get away came spiraling down is my story. My college story did
not begin 12 minutes away from home. My story started off as pursuing my dream of traveling, even
if it was only three hours from home. I spent one semester, four months, in which I thought was my
dream. I am independent, I am spontaneous and I am adventurous, or so I thought. Living my
"dream" was the only way I found out that I was small and shy. I was an outcast–– how terrifying. I
started at Seton Hall University, in South Orange New Jersey, where I found out that living my
dream meant living with four other girls, that sucked. I was used to living with one other girl in the
room, my sister. But that is my sister and who cares if she liked to sleep with the TV on, I was
turning it off and would fight with her about turning to back on with no shame. But, I was living
with unfamiliar hair swimming in the shower I was supposed to get clean in. I was able to smell
disgusting smells from the bathroom while laying in my perfume sprayed room. I had strangers (my
roommate's friends) watching me while I "slept" when I

Penrith City Council Case Study
Penrith gathers 20,000 signatures against poor infrastructure
An online petition calling for federal funding on infrastructure development in Penrith and the outer
western Sydney region has gathered more than 20,000 signatures. Penrith City Council has started
this initiative with an aim to get problems of traffic congestion and other related problems out in the
open as federal election campaigning gets underway.
The campaign highlights the critical need to connect Sydney's outskirts to the North West and South
West regions. The project's objective is to generate more job opportunities and health access to
improve well–being and togetherness in the community.

I'll be an optimist, I believe there is going to be a federal fairly soon, and there will some further
commitments in relation to the planning of it, then budget allocations for it will be put through
regressively overtime. Though Good government, whether its liberal or labour will have to come on
board, a bipartisan agreement, the creation of the fund really has to be a solution, to progressively
build them up and spend them for the benefit of the community.
What have you done to make the public aware? How can this be enhanced to infiltrate public
interest?
There's advertising everywhere, Facebook pages, YouTube advertisements, pamphlets, just last
Wednesday morning people were handing out pamphlets at railways stations, the launch of the
project in Penrith seems to have created a good deal of publicity.
How long will these improvements take once approved? Will this be chaotic on top of existing rail
lines in the process of construction?
Any construction such as this will cause disruption. It is critical to implement it in an appropriate
and timely manner. Changes are to be seen through to

Argumentative Essay About Space Station
In the near future, a station will be needed to do what Earth can no longer to provide for us in the
future. With the growing population of 200,000 people to this planet every day and 70 million more
people every year, food is the ever–growing need. But how can we support the growing human
species on Earth? The answer in short is we can't by the year 2100 the United Nations predicts that
11 billion people will exist on Earth (World Population Balance 2017). This in turn unless corrected
by stop having kids, would create death rates rise through famine, disease, and war. Another solution
is to outsource our population to other planets, which is already planned in our close future. But the
best place for our species is space. Need space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power systems would be a mixed use of different systems that being solar, nuclear and battery.
Conducting this method of a hybrid power system would meet the demands on a growing station.
Fission power system wouldn't be any of a radioactive hazard until system power–up this would
entitle of a safe system install. A backup computer operated system to help maintain the reactor by
allowing the system to response to power grid load and power system thermal load. This would
provide a safe operating temperature that would be based on a negative temperature band feedback.
This would cause less potential damage caused by thermal stress on the reactor (Angelo 2017).
Battery system would be based on the ideal of the Tesla Power Wall. This battery would contain the
battery pack, invertor and the liquid cooling loop (Tesla 2017). The batteries would be connected in
series to provide enough output for a twenty–four output. This will in a case where reactor power
will need to be brought online from a down system or emergency. If in an emergency the nuclear
reactor compartment will be evacuated and ejected from the station to provide safety for the station.
In this time, the station will operate low power and depend on battery and solar panels. A dispatch
team will investigate the reactor to see if recoverability can be taken. Batteries will be cycled on and

Metro Rail Services At Kochi City
1 Executive Summary
This project discusses the Metro rail services to be build in Kochi city. Rapid urbanization and
intense commercial developments in the recent past have resulted in steep rise in travel demand,
putting Kochi's transport infrastructure to stress. With mega projects such as 'SMART CITY, 'INFO
PARK', 'FASHION CITY' and "Vellarpadam Container Terminal", etc. on the anvil, travel demand is
expected to shoot up, strengthening the need for augmenting the transport infrastructure in Kochi
region. In the absence of a mass transport system, there has been a steep increase in the number of
personalized motor vehicles in GCDA area. The number of registered motor vehicles in this area
was 68,271 in 1987 and it grown to 4,46,959 in the year 2003. 64% of these vehicles are two
wheelers. This large number of motor vehicles is resulting in rise in air pollution, increased number
of road accidents, and slowing down of average vehicular speeds.
Peak hour traffic demand on Alwaye–Petta Corridor has been assessed as 13,681 phpdt for the year
2015 and this is likely to increase 21065 phpdt by the year 2025. Road–based public transport,
therefore, can not meet this demand. There is an urgent need to introduce a light Metro system in the
city to provide fast, safe, economic, and environment–friendly mode for mass movement of
passengers. Carrying capacity of Light Metro System is upto 25,000 phpdt, which will be adequate
to take care of the traffic problems for Greater Cochin

The Growth Of Early Los Angeles
To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant
union station in old downtown on Alameda street. The buildings owes it begging to the American
phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern era
and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angeles that prior was just a
small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing
Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city's Spanish roots
through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told the
story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles was but also hinted at the industrial metropolis that
Los Angeles would be through the art deco language. Through the fine usage and mixture of
elements at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two languages of Art
Deco modern and Spanish mission style to form a landmark that is a remnant of a significant
transitional period in LA's history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th century los
angles experienced a period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase that
followed. Furthermore there was the need for a transportation hub that would serve as a common
stop for vital transcontinental rail lines that supported the city's industry, which included the Union

New Business Plan for a Gas Station Start Up
The customer need that will be satisfied is that my gas station will have gasoline, diesel, and a
service station to get the repairs or inspections they will need to have. There will be a free air pump,
so they can have the option of filling up their tires. I will also have coffee, snacks and different
beverages the customer can purchase as well, so they can also fuel up their bodies as well for the
ride they are going to make. The product will be unique by my station having a self service, but also
a full service section for customers at no extra cost, but if the customer is getting 5 gallons or less
than there will be a slight increase on the price per gallon. I will have two self service gasoline
pumps; two full service gasoline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them with the most upstanding customer service so they will keep on coming back. With the
amenities I will provide I will hopefully be going above and beyond their expectations of the service
they would receive at another gas station. The customer may need to use the service station, and
they're vehicle will be treated with the proper care it deserves.
The Exxon station, located at the corner of Baltimore Avenue and Church lane in East Lansdowne,

the lottery. They also have a convenience store that you can go inside with an ATM machine in it.
Their weaknesses are that there is only one employee that works there. They have an air pump and
vacuum section that you have to pay for. They do not have a full service option, nor do they have a
service station to work on vehicles or a diesel fuel pump. It also isn't a very clean or well maintained
place.

purchases made inside of their supermarket. They also have an entire supermarket

The Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina
In 1997 I was a Marine Aircraft Firefighter stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort,
South Carolina. One of the tasks we performed was performing static displays for groups touring the
base. Two places every tour group would visit was the military police and the fire station; we were
the fire station. Staff Sergeant Draughn and I (we were both supervisors) stood in front of these
children while our Marines performed a drill where an alarm would sound; they would come down
the slide from upstairs, get dressed roll about 30 yards, pull out the hoses and put out either the
simulated fire or a small controlled fire. On this particular occasion it was a group elementary
school kids from the local school district. Draughn looked at me and said. "Look at these kids, just
think, as innocent as they look now, in about 10 to 15 years some will be murders, and criminals." I
laughed and agreed; realizing that criminals come from everyday walks of life; as I reflect that was
the first time I can truly pinpoint the first time I had a biased perspective on the younger generation.
I was 29 years old at the time and looked like I was 20. I was before I was shot so I weighed at the
most 160 lbs., and it's hard to say I that heavy at the time. Throughout my life I have always been in
service and I thought I was very liberal minded; I've always loved being nice to people and helping
people and so I thought my altruistic personality was perfect for social work. This program

Electricity Policy Reform and Responsible Government in...
With many different religious, ethnic, and social groups, the Republic of India is a unique and
diverse state. Since gaining independence, India has faced a challenge of encouraging the variegated
people within its borders to embrace and celebrate a common Indian identity even while nurturing
their distinct cultures and traditions. This diversity is reflected throughout social and political
challenges in Indian society. Although the different federal states are given a certain amount of
leeway to accommodate for the population's heterogeneity, the central government maintain a great
amount of power for purpose of holding the nation together. As India has developed, one of its

In general, however, the Indian government still maintains a great amount of control over the
electricity sector. Its centralized control over the sector remains largely intact and is directly
accountable by the government to the people, thus indicative of a responsible government. With an
annual population growth of 1.3 percent (United Nations 2013), India's energy needs are growing,
especially in regards to electricity. Because new energy gains require multiples of power use, for the
Indian economy to expand, electricity production has to rise more rapidly than total output. Thus far,
areas of India remain in the dark: the "rise of 122 percent in [electric] generation [has been]
insufficient for continued expansion" (DeVotta, 138). Still, the electricity sector has grown
substantially since independence. Installed capacity in 1950 was 1,713 megawatts; by 2002 it had
grown to 104,918 megawatts (Kale 2004). However, per capita annual electricity consumption,
which increased from approximately 13 kilowatt–hours in 1951 to 365 kilowatt–hours in 2001,
remains low. At the federal level, India's government has initiated a major policy initiative to make
electricity generation and supply commercially viable. As part of the 2001 Energy Conservation Act,
the government outlined an ambitious plan for achieving 100 percent village–level electrification by
the end of 2007 and total household

Introduction
The movement of people is a crucial aspect to consider in contemporary development, not only
around the world, but within a single municipality. According to "Code Red", an extensively
researched article published in The Hamilton Spectator in 2010, the most underdeveloped area of
Hamilton exists in its downtown district. The proposed Light Rail Transit system is a public transit
project that could revolutionize the downtown core of Hamilton, Ontario and improve the city's rate
of urban development. This report will discuss and justify a proposal for a North–South route,
including three stations/stops, and rejected routes and stations.
Background of the proposed LRT system in Hamilton
I. Rationale Great consideration has been taken by the provincial and municipal governments along
with Metrolinx to ensure that the Light Rail Transit system would substantially benefit Hamilton,
particularly in its downtown core

My View Using Online Train Tickets Buying
Executive Summary:
In my view using online train tickets buying is very good, and also provides quicker service to the
customers, which is easily accessible to the public. As an enterprise architect (EA) I would
implement this advanced buying or booking system but we should keep it safer. Through a detailed
research there would be many number of advantages and disadvantages of this system. We can know
the availability and buying of the tickets online.
By implementing this system it reduces the public effort going to the train station and making a
booking there, the customer can book online while he is sitting in his home. Below SWOT analysis
describes about the online ticket buying or booking in functional and non–functional point of view.
Though this system has weaknesses which have been mentioned in the SWOT analysis which can be
avoided by taking counter measurements.

Descriptive Essay About South Boston
10. South Boston
Known as one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, South Boston is placed on a peninsula that
extends into the Boston Harbor. It is linked to the rest of the city through a narrow strip of land.
Over the years, this strip of land has been gradually widened through landfill.
For over a century, South Boston has been one of the most populated neighborhoods in the city. In
the mid–1800s, it was the third most populous section of Boston. Over the year, new residential
subdivisions have developed in the neighborhood. Each new subdivision has a unique character and
architectural style. Telegraph Hill and Dorchester Heights were both created in the middle of the
19th century to house the city's growing population base.
Originally annexed by Boston in 1804, this neighborhood really started to thrive in the mid–19th
century when the Old Colony Railroad made reaching downtown Boston easy. Before long, it was a
center of industry with shipyards, iron foundries and machine shops popping up everywhere. Today,
industrial buildings can still be found on the northern side of the peninsula.
Modern South Boston has many long–time residents as well as young professionals. With its easy
access to downtown, this area is popular among commuters. It boasts of a thriving nightlife scene
and open spaces. Miles of waterfront parks and beaches can be found at areas like L Street Beach,
Carson Beach, the Strandway and Pleasure Bay.

The Importance Of Direct Behavior Rating
Direct Behavior Rating– Classroom Management
Ms. Nelson is a second grade teacher at ABC Elementary. Ms. Nelson was self–referred as she was
concerned about her student's engagment. She was observed on 02/25/2016 using the Direct
Behavior Rating– Classroom Management: external Rater Form (DBR – CM ER) for 20 minutes.
The DBR – CM ER involves the observer recording ratings in five categories: classroom structure,
praise, communication, enthusiasm, and rapport. During the beginning of the observation, Ms.
Nelson's students were seated on a carpet, and she was reading a story and discussing it with the
students. After the students completed their reading activity, they were split into stations. The
students either went to an independent math station, computerized reading station, guided reading
station with the teacher, or spelling station.
Classroom Structure
Ms. Nelson's classroom was arranged in a way that allowed students move without disruption. The

History of Electricity in Kerala
HISTORY OF ELECTRICITY IN KERALA –

S N COLLEGE, Kollam, Kerala, India email – achushina@gmail.com
ORIGIN AND GROWTH OF ELECTRICITY
The history of electricity can be traced back to the eighteenth century. The first instance of sensing
the phenomenon of electricity was the accidental observation of what was later found out to be neon
glow by Framas Bauksbw in 1709 at the Royal Society in London. Luigi Galvani observed moving
of the legs of a dead frog when touched with a metal scalpel. This also was later found to have
happened due to production of electricity by chemical process. Almost at the same time, Alessandro
Volta made the first form of battery. Thus a new phenomenon, the Electric current, was produced

The emergence of more Power Stations and Transmission lines throughout the country didn't take
much time. Till 1948, Electricity generation, transmission and distribution were governed by
Electricity Act 1910. The Government used to give licences for generation, transmission and
distribution of power. But this type of approach was not conducive to a balanced and sufficient
growth in this key sector. There was absence of co–ordination and a meaningful orientation for fast
development of the power sector. The importance of electricity industry was duly recognized by that
time and an active role in the field was taken by the government.
State Electricity Boards
When India got independence, the installed capacity of the country was a meagre 1940 MW. The
enacting of the Electricity Supply Act 1948 paved the way for establishing the State Electricity
Boards. It was a major keystone in the history of Electricity in India, which brought this prime
industry under the public sector. There were major steps in the legal framework for the power sector.
The whole picture of enactments in the sector will be dealt with in detail, later in this chapter.
The State Electricity Boards presented a commendable picture in the growing independent India.
Till now, the State Electricity Boards ran the show,

as disgusting or repulsive but indecent material is described as being offensive to the public. Both
obscene and indecent can be view differently by the public; however, the Constitution plays a role
with indecent material. Obscene material "is not protected by the First Amendment," (The Dynamics
of Mass Communication Tenth Edition, page 377) and broadcast stations cannot air obscene
material at anytime. The problem with this is that no one had come up with a set standard of what
obscene material is. Due to the difference in beliefs between ... Show more content on

Informal Public Transport Essay
Technology Not–Enabled Intermediate public transport (Global and Indian Context)
It is defined as, passenger transport services outside the traditional government regulatory system is
called as the paratransit. Some of the important characteristics of the informal public transport are:
Sometimes it is unscheduled in terms of services, routes are based on demand response, filling the
gap in formal public transport.
Generally, use those vehicles which are small in size leads to more flexibility where large vehicles
are unable to reach like in Damascus, Syria Arab Republic where small vehicles dominating the

Most of the vehicle used as a paratransit are old, or retired from other areas have less capital

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION REPORT BASED ON THE LATEST NATIONAL PASSENGER
SURVEY (SPRING 2011)
AUTHOR: ONUR AYAN
DATE: 27/10/2011
TO: MANAGERS OF SOUTH WEST TRAINS
Summary
In this report we have analysed the results of National Passenger Survey. The research gives us vital
information about our customers' opinions on our services.
From the analysis it could be seen that the recent priority issues are the lack of employees in direct
service areas, parking place problems and physical conditions of our assets. Nearly 5 in 10 of our
customers are not happy about the availability of our staff. Almost half of our customers are
declaring that they have problems about finding a parking place. Approximately %50 of our
customers is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important that only %50 (nearly) of our customers are thinking that our staff are generally
available to help them. The responses of our staff are generally taking pleasure of our customers.
2.3 Physical conditions
General satisfaction level from the physical conditions of our assets is nearly %60. There are no
significant changes since last year.
2.4 Before–after journey transport facilities
There is a significant decrease on the number of our satisfied customers' thinking that it is
convenient to pass other forms of public transport, %82 to %71 (Peak times). The general
satisfaction is nearly %73 in present. The satisfaction from the facilities for car parking is decreased
%7.
3. Conclusions
The research has shown us the general satisfaction levels of customers. It is important to know that
only %35 of our customers have replied the survey. The most important segments are satisfaction
levels of facilities and services, availability of staff and car parking facilities. Low levels of these
segments could be caused by our new routes. The secondarily important segment is the customers'
satisfaction from the physical conditions of our trains and stations. These areas should be focussed
in recent period. The research showed that the satisfaction level in peak times is slightly fewer than
the off–peak times.
Generally, we might say that there is no significant changes happened in the customer satisfaction

Reflection Paper On Fitness
Welcome to Fitness In my life so far, there have been very few instances where I honestly thought
about giving up. I like to believe I am a very strong willed and sometimes stubborn person. I also
believe everyone has moments where they reach their limit and must decide whether or not to raise
the bar. My first day of track practice was one of those moments. I don't believe I fully understood
what I was getting myself into that day. I walked through the gym door nervous and filled with a
mixture of anxiety and excitement. The first thing I noticed was how many people there were. The
entire gym had people circling the perimeter. I mean it was insane. It felt like everyone I had ever
known to be in sports was there. People I had never even said a word to had managed find to their
way to the gym. I was out of my league and out of my mind. I couldn't do this. I'm going to make a
fool of myself. Everyone here is conditioned for this and they've done this before. They know what
is going to happen. I was standing there, looking around like an idiot. The first person I recognize
and actually talk to is Franky. I attempt to casually sneak my way over to him. I feel like a fish out
of water. I decide that if I ever get confused as to what to do I must have a plan. Ask Franky. That
was the best I could come up with. The warm ups and stretching weren't so bad. I was left out of
breath from the quicker ones, but I felt I would recover in time for the real workout. When coach

Change In Malcolm Gladwell's 'The Tipping Point'

Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point" is radical because he talks about how the environment can
change people behavior. The environment could have caused people to change for better or worst.
For example: When people were placed in an environment of filth they are more violent and hectic
causing the crime rate to increase. When you come from a bad neighborhood you are statistically
more likely to be dangerous and belligerent. If you were to place people into a different
environment, you can expect change (not saying it always work). Throughout the story Malcolm
gives many examples of change. He starts off by talking about four young men who were on a New
York train. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The change came from simply fixing the trains, not from wanting to change but from cleaning up
the environment. Showing that they are more than what they see. Clean makes you feel better about
yourself as for dirty makes you feel scum like. So why not act how you feel? It is events like what I
stated above that helped the people to see that change can be just as simple as cleaning the train.
Being in an environment filled with filth, stench, and nothingness in the air, can lead you to doing
bad things. In the story four men were acting like they had something and when approached a man
were then shot. If you dig deeper, you truly find out the four young men didn't have an easy life.
They came from a horrible place. Somewhere less fortunate than they needed to be. That key setting
caused them to react and see things more angrily and act out as such.
Malcolm Gladwell writes:
The encounter between Bernie Goetz and those four youths on the subway: Allen, Ramseur, Cabey,
and Canty. At least two of them, according to some reports, appear to have been on drugs at the time
of the incident. They all came from the Claremont Village housing project in one of the worst parts
of the South Bronx. Cabey was, at the time, under indictment for armed robbery. Canty had a prior
felony for possession of stolen property. Allen had been previously arrested for attempted assault.

Disadvantages Of A Bus Rapid Transit
Transport is an integral part of national, economic, social and sustainable development that can
produce both positive and negative effects on the environment and the quality of life depending on
the level of development and indicated preferences. Transportation is hence crucial for the growth of
any economy and trade, both of which are highly dependent on the conveyance of people and goods
(Rodrigue et.al, 2006). The role of transportation to urban dwellers cannot be overemphasised as
transportation enables employment, education, health services and leisure (Wane, 2001).
Practically the production process cannot be complete unless inputs such as raw materials and
labour can be moved from different locations; neither can manufactured products be delivered to
consumers, nor services carried out which emphasizes the need for an effective transport system
(Rodrigue et.al, 2006).

The Curitiba Bus Model which was proposed by the city planning philosophy of Mayor Jaime
Lerner of the Brazilian city of Curitiba has since been incorporated in other cities as TransMilenio in
Bogota, Columbia; Metrovia in Guayaquil, Ecuador and the Orange Line of Los Angeles where
urban transport and urban growth are incongruous. The essence of a Bus Rapid Transit hence is to
improve bus operating speed and reliability on arterial streets by reducing or eliminating the various
types of delay (Goodman et al, 2005).
The history of public transport development in Sub–Saharan Africa differs from one country to
another. However, to date we may affirm that it is a sector which remains poorly organised across
the continent. Many companies were created in various countries, even several times in the same
country, but the vast majority of them have failed. (Addo,

Figure 1 shows the noise spectra measured at control rooms, laboratories and offices within
frequency range of 16–250Hz. The low frequency noises that causes complaints in control rooms,
laboratories and offices is usually generated from the air conditioning or ventilation system,
turbines, transformers and water pumps which presents in the station. Table 3 shows the
measurement parameters selected for the study of low frequency noise in station. The acoustic
pressure at 50 Hz is due to air conditioning which is audible especially in the control room because
it exceeds 50dB. Also, in some offices the sound of air condition cause annoyance and cause worker

Medi A Powerful Tool Of Communication
Essay
Media, being the most powerful tool of communication there is, influence societies in many ways.
In fact the hypodermic needle theory states that passive audiences are directly influenced by media.
On the other hand, from a Marxist perspective, one can argue the opposite that it is the audiences
who influence the information which is produced via the media. In this essay this group assessed
and contrasted the media of three countries namely Singapore, Jamaica and Bolivia in relation to
their respective economy, society, values and political system. These three countries differ gravely in
terms of their cultures, norms economic activities, religions and even social ills etc and yet despite
these differences, they all share one thing in common– media coverage. In addition, each country
has rules and regulations geared towards the protection of journalists although sometimes such are
not enforced fully.
Bolivia is named after Venezuelan–born liberator Simon Bolivar and boarders with five countries
namely Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. Bolivar is unique in that it has two capital – La
Paz (administrative) and Sucre (constitutional). With a population of an estimated population of over
10 million people in this South American country, there are nearly 200 privately owned television
stations, more than 480 radio stations, eight (8) national newspapers as well as many local ones. Of
the various forms of media, radio is the most important source of news and

Nevada, Arizona. We have 29 military bases with several others in the surrounding states (Colorado,
New Mexico and Oregon). This disaster is, depending on the wind, a serious threat to at least:
southern California, central Arizona and northern Mexico. However we have reason to believe that
this could affect southern Nevada and central California as well. It is for tis reason that our first and

military branches and the coast guard are equipped and willing to asset in these two tasks; however
some of the military bases in the region must be evacuated first so that they may return to help in the
evacuation. This evacuation of military personal would also allow for military bases to be used as
evacuation centers for a more smooth, coordinated and centralized evacuation. Mr. President, the

The Tokyo Railway Station Building
The Tokyo railway station building is located in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan in the Marunouchi business
district. The station which acts as Tokyo's main intercity terminal is served by the Tokyo Metro
network, Japan Railways' regional commuter lines as well as the Shinkansen high speed railway
lines. The Tokyo Station also has a reputation of being the busiest station in the country, judging by
the number of trains it serves per day; approximately three thousand trains in one day. Furthermore,
the train station has a hotel and gallery within its premises. In terms of architecture and historical
culture, the station actually has a long history that dates back more than a hundred years, thereby
making it one of the one of the few major examples of buildings designed in classical style
remaining in Tokyo, and Japan as a whole.
Chronicle information of the building Even though the Tokyo Station was constructed in 1914, its
actual plan is connected to the history of Japan's rail in the 1880s (Ito n.p). It is therefore viewed by
the Japanese as being significant in the advancement of rail technology and as a symbolic structure
within Japan. By 1885, several railway tracks were already passing through Tokyo, thereby
necessitating the need for a central terminal to be built in the region between Ueno and Shinbashi.
The station which was to accommodate Tokyo's entire network was simply referred to as the
"central terminal" (Ito n.p). The project for the Tokyo Station was first offered

Strategic Challenges Between Samsung And Eskom
Introduction
Strategic management plays a vital role in most organisations as it consists of formulating and
implementing the company's goals; this is done by taking into account the available resources and
doing an analysis of the internal and external environment (Takalkar, 2014). The author of this essay
will be identifying and analysing a significant strategic challenge that was faced by a local and
global entity from two different industries, furthermore an external and internal analysis will be
given. Lastly the author will address how the two organisations were able to overcome the strategic
challenge in order to strengthen the strategic positions of the organisations. The local entity that was
chosen is Eskom which falls part of the energy industry and for the global entity Samsung was
chosen as it falls part of the technology industry. The differences found between Samsung and
Eskom are that Samsung provides products that can be seen as a want for its consumers whereas
Eskom provides a service which is a need for the general public. A similarity that can be found
between the two entities is that both these companies are leading players within the industry they
belong to. The reason these two organisations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

weaknesses and at Eskom an evident weakness is the lack of clear decision making when it comes to
policies, such as the Medupi delay caused by poor decision making. Furthermore Eskom has had
labour issues like the employee strike during the construction of a power station, this lead to a

Essay on Freedom Riders
The Freedom Riders were a group of college students and leaders of various racial equality
organizations, both blacks and whites, which tested the law of integration for public transportation.
The law was instated, but Alabama especially didn't follow it. The Freedom Riders rode buses into
the cities to see if the townspeople accepted or declined the new law. They in turn ended up beating,
pummeling, and chasing the riders out of town with the white mobs. The Freedom Riders violently
fought the segregation of blacks and whites for public transportation systems, and their victory led
to the integration of many other places and the making of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The

to head down South to Birmingham, Alabama on May 20, 1961, at 8:30 A.M. CST from the
Greyhound Bus Station to test the newly instated law involving the integration for public
transportation. The spokesman for the group was a twenty–one year old named John Lewis. They
were led by police vehicles on the highway and followed by undercover cop cars for protection.
When they arrived at 10:23 A.M. CST they were bombarded by a mob of people (Loory 573). A
white male named James Peck was beaten unconsciously and needed 56 stitches to close up his head
wounds (Powledge 255). Stuart H. Loory, a reporter who trailed the journey of the Freedom Riders'
bus, states in great detail that, "The mob had first pummeled three National Broadcasting Co.
newsmen and several other photographers, smashing their equipment. Then it turned to vent its
unsatisfied fury on the band of students who stood quietly on the bus platform, apparently not
knowing what to do after completing the ride from Birmingham." The mobsters used everything
imaginable to beat the riders. Loory had been on the platform, escaped without injury, and witnessed
this as follows, Using metal pipes, baseball bats, sticks, and fists, the mob surged on the small group
of Freedom Riders, clubbing, punching, chasing, and beating both whites and Negroes. When some

Corruption, negligence and irresponsibility of the civil management have contributed to the
continued spread of the slum in the city of Lagos. All mega–cities face similar problems however
the problems in Lagos are intensified due to the fact that the population growth has exceeded
infrastructure capabilities. The housing facilities, water supply, road space, transport, solid waste
disposal and piped water services are unable to keep up with the high speed of growing urbanization
in Lagos due to the high population, population density, lack of finance and poor infrastructure.

embarking on urban regeneration schemes to try and demolish informal settlements and build better

focused on removing residential slums and providing safe and sanitary housing for people. However
this Act was not well thought off at all. It was severely criticized as it did not reconstruct the
promised 9 new units of low cost housing for every dwelling torn down. In 1954, an amendment to
this act was offered. Instead of demolishing these slums, focus would be placed on rehabilitating and
conserving existing dwellings. Habitat Management Programme for Poverty Alleviation. This was

My teacher seems to think that one of the biggest areas of struggle for this child is that he has

Observation Of Teaching A Teacher's Classroom
I have a good friend, Courtney, who is doing her student teaching in a fourth–grade classroom at
Faubion elementary school, and she arranged for me to come in to observe her cooperating teacher's
classroom. On Friday, December 1st at 10 o'clock I had the opportunity to observe Mrs. Makara's
classroom for 45 minutes while the class was doing reading stations. The class is organized into six
table groups with five students in each group. Mrs. Makara's overhead screen hangs in the front of
the room near her table. I noticed that the class was arranged this way in order for all the students to
all easily see the screen as well as collaborate with one another for the assignments and projects that
are assigned in class. When I came into the classroom Mrs. Makara was finishing up teaching a
math lesson. She was using a document camera to project the worksheet that students had in front of
them on screen. She was also using a microphone while talking to the class. Courtney later informed
me that was because one of their students has a hearing impairment so both Courtney and Mrs.
Makara use the microphone when speaking to the class. Mrs. Makara assigned a couple of math
problems for the students to work with their table groups to figure out. After each group figured out
the answer to the problem Mrs. Makara asked for one volunteer to come up and project their work
on the overhead projector. The student showed her work and talked through how her group figured
out the solution. Afterward, Mrs. Makara asked all the students to put away their math work and get
ready for reading stations.
While the students were working to put away their math work Mrs. Makara used her computer to
pull up a slide showing the different reading stations. When I asked my friend about how the
students were split into groups she informed me that they split them up based on their reading levels
because in their class the reading levels are at a wide spectrum. There are some students who are
reading at a sixth–grade level and others that are reading at a K–1 level. Therefore, the only way
they could differentiate reading instruction was by splitting the students into groups based on their
reading levels and having them go to the stations that

Malcolm Gladwell : The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
Malcolm Gladwell– The Tipping Point Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point" is radical because

about four young men who were on a New York train. They had asked a man for five dollars when
unsuspectedly the man shot them. The author then goes on to talk about the variables that went into
the shooting making it more specific. They said the cause was the graffiti and dirty train. But then he
goes to explain the bigger picture by explaining this current situation through other situations if not
similar. Events like the one stated above caused a big transformation on the New York train system.
Before the trains had graffiti all around the trains and the space inside was no better. Just down right
filthy. So, in your opinion how do you think the people reacted to it? Badly! They see trash and
started to act like it. You are what you surround yourself with. Malcolm wrote," The Tipping Point
in this epidemic, though, isn't a particular kind of person...... It's something physical like graffiti. The
impetus to engage in a certain kind of behavior is not coming from a certain kind of person but from
a feature of the environment" (152). Seeing the graffiti made people think it was acceptable to act
out. That made the person change, not because they wanted to but due to the surroundings. Once the
train was clean there was no reason to think about doing criminal activity. When the trains got
cleaned up there were "75–percent fewer felonies than there had been at the decade's start" (151).
By simply cleaning the New York train system, it transformed the whole atmosphere and it became
safer to ride the train. The change came from simply fixing the trains, not from

the mid of 1950s the capacity of thermal power generating units improved from 200 to 300
megawatt to 600 megawatt. In 1973, the largest thermal power was 1300 MW. At the end of the
1980s, the world's largest thermal power plant with a capacity of 4400 MW was Japan's Kagoshima
thermal power plant. However, people found that the bigger the unit, the lower the reliability and the
availability. Thus in the early 1990s, the thermal power became stable at the unit capacity of 300 to
700 MW. (Barrow, 126)
Nowadays, coal is still one of the greatest used energy to generate power in so many countries.
Using coal in electricity generation is 93% in South African, 87% in Poland, 79% in China, 78% in
Australia, 45% in USA, 41% in Germany, 58% in Israel etc. (Coal & Electricity) From the data
above, even the developed countries use coal to generate power as the main source. In many
developed countries, energy generation is still based on coal as a long–term source. In recent years,
although there is an increasing number of equipment using gas and wind to generate the power, it is
still lower than the proportion of coal–fired power generation. The reason why most countries
choose coal as a main source to generate electricity, is that there are many advantages in using coal
to generate electricity. First of all, coal is the

Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the
world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One
way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content
analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus,
announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion, competitions, types of callers and news
information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop station 'Mai FM' to New Zealand
Media and Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. '
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying
propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years,
but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by
counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in
Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in
communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of
content on audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and
objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media
content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no

My Nightmare Short Story

  • 1. My Nightmare Short Story Living my nightmare. I am a sophomore at Sacred Heart University In Fairfield Connecticut. My home is Trumbull Connecticut. I had dreams to adventure as far away as possible for school. I had dreams of traveling and seeing the world and using my education as my excuse. But, I am a commuter at Sacred Heart University and travel all of 12 minutes to get from my home to my education. How all my dreams to get away came spiraling down is my story. My college story did not begin 12 minutes away from home. My story started off as pursuing my dream of traveling, even if it was only three hours from home. I spent one semester, four months, in which I thought was my dream. I am independent, I am spontaneous and I am adventurous, or so I thought. Living my "dream" was the only way I found out that I was small and shy. I was an outcast–– how terrifying. I started at Seton Hall University, in South Orange New Jersey, where I found out that living my dream meant living with four other girls, that sucked. I was used to living with one other girl in the room, my sister. But that is my sister and who cares if she liked to sleep with the TV on, I was turning it off and would fight with her about turning to back on with no shame. But, I was living with unfamiliar hair swimming in the shower I was supposed to get clean in. I was able to smell disgusting smells from the bathroom while laying in my perfume sprayed room. I had strangers (my roommate's friends) watching me while I "slept" when I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Penrith City Council Case Study Penrith gathers 20,000 signatures against poor infrastructure An online petition calling for federal funding on infrastructure development in Penrith and the outer western Sydney region has gathered more than 20,000 signatures. Penrith City Council has started this initiative with an aim to get problems of traffic congestion and other related problems out in the open as federal election campaigning gets underway. The campaign highlights the critical need to connect Sydney's outskirts to the North West and South West regions. The project's objective is to generate more job opportunities and health access to improve well–being and togetherness in the community. "It's a question of accessibility, to be able to get around. I'll be an optimist, I believe there is going to be a federal fairly soon, and there will some further commitments in relation to the planning of it, then budget allocations for it will be put through regressively overtime. Though Good government, whether its liberal or labour will have to come on board, a bipartisan agreement, the creation of the fund really has to be a solution, to progressively build them up and spend them for the benefit of the community. What have you done to make the public aware? How can this be enhanced to infiltrate public interest? There's advertising everywhere, Facebook pages, YouTube advertisements, pamphlets, just last Wednesday morning people were handing out pamphlets at railways stations, the launch of the project in Penrith seems to have created a good deal of publicity. How long will these improvements take once approved? Will this be chaotic on top of existing rail lines in the process of construction? Any construction such as this will cause disruption. It is critical to implement it in an appropriate and timely manner. Changes are to be seen through to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the growing population of 200,000 people to this planet every day and 70 million more people every year, food is the ever–growing need. But how can we support the growing human species on Earth? • 9. Metro Rail Services At Kochi City 1 Executive Summary This project discusses the Metro rail services to be build in Kochi city. Rapid urbanization and intense commercial developments in the recent past have resulted in steep rise in travel demand, putting Kochi's transport infrastructure to stress. With mega projects such as 'SMART CITY, 'INFO PARK', 'FASHION CITY' and "Vellarpadam Container Terminal", etc. on the anvil, travel demand is expected to shoot up, strengthening the need for augmenting the transport infrastructure in Kochi region. In the absence of a mass transport system, there has been a steep increase in the number of personalized motor vehicles in GCDA area. The number of registered motor vehicles in this area was 68,271 in 1987 and it grown to 4,46,959 in the year 2003. 64% of these vehicles are two wheelers. This large number of motor vehicles is resulting in rise in air pollution, increased number of road accidents, and slowing down of average vehicular speeds. Peak hour traffic demand on Alwaye–Petta Corridor has been assessed as 13,681 phpdt for the year 2015 and this is likely to increase 21065 phpdt by the year 2025. Road–based public transport, therefore, can not meet this demand. There is an urgent need to introduce a light Metro system in the city to provide fast, safe, economic, and environment–friendly mode for mass movement of passengers. Carrying capacity of Light Metro System is upto 25,000 phpdt, which will be adequate to take care of the traffic problems for Greater Cochin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Growth Of Early Los Angeles To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant union station in old downtown on Alameda street. The buildings owes it begging to the American phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern era and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angeles that prior was just a small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city's Spanish roots through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told the story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles was but also hinted at the industrial metropolis that Los Angeles would be through the art deco language. Through the fine usage and mixture of elements at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two languages of Art Deco modern and Spanish mission style to form a landmark that is a remnant of a significant transitional period in LA's history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th century los angles experienced a period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase that followed. Furthermore there was the need for a transportation hub that would serve as a common stop for vital transcontinental rail lines that supported the city's industry, which included the Union Pacific ... Staff Sergeant Draughn and I (we were both supervisors) stood in front of these children while our Marines performed a drill where an alarm would sound; they would come down the slide from upstairs, get dressed roll about 30 yards, pull out the hoses and put out either the simulated fire or a small controlled fire. Since gaining independence, India has faced a challenge of encouraging the variegated people within its borders to embrace and celebrate a common Indian identity even while nurturing their distinct cultures and traditions. This diversity is reflected throughout social and political challenges in Indian society. Although the different federal states are given a certain amount of leeway to accommodate for the population's heterogeneity, the central government maintain a great amount of power for purpose of holding the nation together. As India has developed, one of its focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In general, however, the Indian government still maintains a great amount of control over the electricity sector. Its centralized control over the sector remains largely intact and is directly accountable by the government to the people, thus indicative of a responsible government. With an annual population growth of 1.3 percent (United Nations 2013), India's energy needs are growing, especially in regards to electricity. Because new energy gains require multiples of power use, for the Indian economy to expand, electricity production has to rise more rapidly than total output. Thus far, areas of India remain in the dark: the "rise of 122 percent in [electric] generation [has been] insufficient for continued expansion" (DeVotta, 138). Still, the electricity sector has grown substantially since independence. Installed capacity in 1950 was 1,713 megawatts; by 2002 it had grown to 104,918 megawatts (Kale 2004). However, per capita annual electricity consumption, which increased from approximately 13 kilowatt–hours in 1951 to 365 kilowatt–hours in 2001, remains low. At the federal level, India's government has initiated a major policy initiative to make electricity generation and supply commercially viable. As part of the 2001 Energy Conservation Act, the government outlined an ambitious plan for achieving 100 percent village–level electrification by the end of 2007 and total household ... I like to believe I am a very strong willed and sometimes stubborn person. I also believe everyone has moments where they reach their limit and must decide whether or not to raise the bar. My first day of track practice was one of those moments. I don't believe I fully understood what I was getting myself into that day. I walked through the gym door nervous and filled with a mixture of anxiety and excitement. The first thing I noticed was how many people there were. The entire gym had people circling the perimeter. I mean it was insane. It felt like everyone I had ever known to be in sports was there. People I had never even said a word to had managed find to their way to the gym. I was out of my league and out of my mind. I couldn't do this. I'm going to make a fool of myself. Everyone here is conditioned for this and they've done this before. They know what is going to happen. I was standing there, looking around like an idiot. The first person I recognize and actually talk to is Franky. I attempt to casually sneak my way over to him. I feel like a fish out of water. I decide that if I ever get confused as to what to do I must have a plan. Ask Franky. That was the best I could come up with. The change came from simply fixing the trains, not from wanting to change but from cleaning up the environment. Showing that they are more than what they see. Clean makes you feel better about yourself as for dirty makes you feel scum like. So why not act how you feel? It is events like what I stated above that helped the people to see that change can be just as simple as cleaning the train. Being in an environment filled with filth, stench, and nothingness in the air, can lead you to doing bad things. In the story four men were acting like they had something and when approached a man were then shot. If you dig deeper, you truly find out the four young men didn't have an easy life. They came from a horrible place. Somewhere less fortunate than they needed to be. That key setting caused them to react and see things more angrily and act out as such. Malcolm Gladwell writes: The encounter between Bernie Goetz and those four youths on the subway: Allen, Ramseur, Cabey, and Canty. At least two of them, according to some reports, appear to have been on drugs at the time of the incident. They all came from the Claremont Village housing project in one of the worst parts of the South Bronx. Cabey was, at the time, under indictment for armed robbery. Canty had a prior felony for possession of stolen property. Allen had been previously arrested for attempted assault. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Disadvantages Of A Bus Rapid Transit Transport is an integral part of national, economic, social and sustainable development that can produce both positive and negative effects on the environment and the quality of life depending on the level of development and indicated preferences. Transportation is hence crucial for the growth of any economy and trade, both of which are highly dependent on the conveyance of people and goods (Rodrigue et.al, 2006). The role of transportation to urban dwellers cannot be overemphasised as transportation enables employment, education, health services and leisure (Wane, 2001). Practically the production process cannot be complete unless inputs such as raw materials and labour can be moved from different locations; neither can manufactured products be delivered to consumers, nor services carried out which emphasizes the need for an effective transport system (Rodrigue et.al, 2006). The history of public transport development in Sub–Saharan Africa differs from one country to another. • 58. Medi A Powerful Tool Of Communication Essay Media, being the most powerful tool of communication there is, influence societies in many ways. In fact the hypodermic needle theory states that passive audiences are directly influenced by media. On the other hand, from a Marxist perspective, one can argue the opposite that it is the audiences who influence the information which is produced via the media. In this essay this group assessed and contrasted the media of three countries namely Singapore, Jamaica and Bolivia in relation to their respective economy, society, values and political system. These three countries differ gravely in terms of their cultures, norms economic activities, religions and even social ills etc and yet despite these differences, they all share one thing in common– media coverage. In addition, each country has rules and regulations geared towards the protection of journalists although sometimes such are not enforced fully. Bolivia is named after Venezuelan–born liberator Simon Bolivar and boarders with five countries namely Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. Bolivar is unique in that it has two capital – La Paz (administrative) and Sucre (constitutional). With a population of an estimated population of over 10 million people in this South American country, there are nearly 200 privately owned television stations, more than 480 radio stations, eight (8) national newspapers as well as many local ones. The station which acts as Tokyo's main intercity terminal is served by the Tokyo Metro network, Japan Railways' regional commuter lines as well as the Shinkansen high speed railway lines. The Tokyo Station also has a reputation of being the busiest station in the country, judging by the number of trains it serves per day; approximately three thousand trains in one day. Furthermore, the train station has a hotel and gallery within its premises. In terms of architecture and historical culture, the station actually has a long history that dates back more than a hundred years, thereby making it one of the one of the few major examples of buildings designed in classical style remaining in Tokyo, and Japan as a whole. Chronicle information of the building Even though the Tokyo Station was constructed in 1914, its actual plan is connected to the history of Japan's rail in the 1880s (Ito n.p). It is therefore viewed by the Japanese as being significant in the advancement of rail technology and as a symbolic structure within Japan. By 1885, several railway tracks were already passing through Tokyo, thereby necessitating the need for a central terminal to be built in the region between Ueno and Shinbashi. The station which was to accommodate Tokyo's entire network was simply referred to as the "central terminal" (Ito n.p). The project for the Tokyo Station was first offered ... Strategic Challenges Between Samsung And Eskom Introduction Strategic management plays a vital role in most organisations as it consists of formulating and implementing the company's goals; this is done by taking into account the available resources and doing an analysis of the internal and external environment (Takalkar, 2014). The author of this essay will be identifying and analysing a significant strategic challenge that was faced by a local and global entity from two different industries, furthermore an external and internal analysis will be given. Lastly the author will address how the two organisations were able to overcome the strategic challenge in order to strengthen the strategic positions of the organisations. The local entity that was chosen is Eskom which falls part of the energy industry and for the global entity Samsung was chosen as it falls part of the technology industry. The differences found between Samsung and Eskom are that Samsung provides products that can be seen as a want for its consumers whereas Eskom provides a service which is a need for the general public. A similarity that can be found between the two entities is that both these companies are leading players within the industry they belong to. The reason these two organisations ... Essay on Freedom Riders The Freedom Riders were a group of college students and leaders of various racial equality organizations, both blacks and whites, which tested the law of integration for public transportation. They in turn ended up beating, pummeling, and chasing the riders out of town with the white mobs. Then it turned to vent its unsatisfied fury on the band of students who stood quietly on the bus platform, apparently not knowing what to do after completing the ride from Birmingham." The mobsters used everything imaginable to beat the riders. Observation Of Teaching A Teacher's Classroom I have a good friend, Courtney, who is doing her student teaching in a fourth–grade classroom at Faubion elementary school, and she arranged for me to come in to observe her cooperating teacher's classroom. On Friday, December 1st at 10 o'clock I had the opportunity to observe Mrs. Makara's classroom for 45 minutes while the class was doing reading stations. The class is organized into six table groups with five students in each group. Mrs. Makara's overhead screen hangs in the front of the room near her table. I noticed that the class was arranged this way in order for all the students to all easily see the screen as well as collaborate with one another for the assignments and projects that are assigned in class. When I came into the classroom Mrs. Makara was finishing up teaching a math lesson. She was using a document camera to project the worksheet that students had in front of them on screen. She was also using a microphone while talking to the class. Courtney later informed me that was because one of their students has a hearing impairment so both Courtney and Mrs. Makara use the microphone when speaking to the class. Mrs. Makara assigned a couple of math problems for the students to work with their table groups to figure out. After each group figured out the answer to the problem Mrs. Makara asked for one volunteer to come up and project their work on the overhead projector. The student showed her work and talked through how her group figured out the solution. Afterward, Mrs. Makara asked all the students to put away their math work and get ready for reading stations. While the students were working to put away their math work Mrs. Makara used her computer to pull up a slide showing the different reading stations. When I asked my friend about how the students were split into groups she informed me that they split them up based on their reading levels because in their class the reading levels are at a wide spectrum. There are some students who are reading at a sixth–grade level and others that are reading at a K–1 level. Therefore, the only way they could differentiate reading instruction was by splitting the students into groups based on their reading levels and having them go to the stations that ... • 78. Malcolm Gladwell : The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell Malcolm Gladwell– The Tipping Point Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point" is radical because he talks about how the environment can change people behavior. The environment could have caused people to change for better or worst. For example: When people were placed in an environment of filth they are more violent and hectic causing the crime rate to increase. When you come from a bad neighborhood you are statistically more likely to be dangerous and belligerent. If you were to place people into a different environment, you can expect change (not saying it always work). Throughout the story Malcolm gives many examples of change. He starts off by talking about four young men who were on a New York train. They had asked a man for five dollars when unsuspectedly the man shot them. The author then goes on to talk about the variables that went into the shooting making it more specific. They said the cause was the graffiti and dirty train. But then he goes to explain the bigger picture by explaining this current situation through other situations if not similar. Events like the one stated above caused a big transformation on the New York train system. Before the trains had graffiti all around the trains and the space inside was no better. Just down right filthy. So, in your opinion how do you think the people reacted to it? Badly! They see trash and started to act like it. You are what you surround yourself with. Malcolm wrote," The Tipping Point in this epidemic, though, isn't a particular kind of person...... It's something physical like graffiti. The impetus to engage in a certain kind of behavior is not coming from a certain kind of person but from a feature of the environment" (152). Seeing the graffiti made people think it was acceptable to act out. That made the person change, not because they wanted to but due to the surroundings. Once the train was clean there was no reason to think about doing criminal activity. When the trains got cleaned up there were "75–percent fewer felonies than there had been at the decade's start" (151). By simply cleaning the New York train system, it transformed the whole atmosphere and it became safer to ride the train. The change came from simply fixing the trains, not from ... There are many alternative fuels that can generate electricity, such as natural gas, nuclear energy, wind energy, hydraulic power and so on (Fossil Fuels Used to Generate Electricity Power Plant Emissions of North America). According to the statistics by the U.S. Energy Information Administration in 2009, the usage of coal was still the largest source to generate the power. Sources of electricity in the United States were generated by 44.9% of coal, 20.3% of nuclear, 23.4% of natural gas, 1% of petroleum, 6.9% of hydroelectric conventional and 3.6% of others (Electric Power Monthly with Data for February 2014). In the mid of 1950s the capacity of thermal power generating units improved from 200 to 300 megawatt to 600 megawatt. In 1973, the largest thermal power was 1300 MW. At the end of the 1980s, the world's largest thermal power plant with a capacity of 4400 MW was Japan's Kagoshima thermal power plant. However, people found that the bigger the unit, the lower the reliability and the availability. Thus in the early 1990s, the thermal power became stable at the unit capacity of 300 to 700 MW. (Barrow, 126) Nowadays, coal is still one of the greatest used energy to generate power in so many countries. Using coal in electricity generation is 93% in South African, 87% in Poland, 79% in China, 78% in Australia, 45% in USA, 41% in Germany, 58% in Israel etc. (Coal & Electricity) From the data above, even the developed countries use coal to generate power as the main source. In many developed countries, energy generation is still based on coal as a long–term source. In recent years, although there is an increasing number of equipment using gas and wind to generate the power, it is still lower than the proportion of coal–fired power generation. • 82. Radio Stations Of New Zealand There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus, announcing style, music, advertisements, self–promotion, competitions, types of callers and news information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop station 'Mai FM' to New Zealand Media and Entertainment's (NZME) boomers station 'Coast. ' First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years, but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of content on audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no ...
