What Are Presidential Highs And Lows
Presidential Highs and Lows
Marley Page12–2–15Writing Assignment–newspaper editor in 1817 There were many highs and lows during the presidencies of our first presidents.
They all served us well even though there were times it was not that great. The first presidents were George Washington, John Adams, Thomas
Jefferson, and James Madison. George Washington served us well as our first president. Some major high points include: the Constitution being ratified,
the capital was created, and the Bill of Rights was ratified. The Constitution was very important. Our whole government was created by that document
and it was ratified under President Washington. Washington also picked where the capital would be. He made the District of Columbia (D.C.).

PROJECT SCOPE:
The Capital Bikeshare system is jointly owned in the jurisdictions where it operates: the District of Columbia, Arlington County, Alexandria, and
Montgomery County. Capital Bikeshare employs a community use model where an individual checks a bike out from one of many locations and
returns to the bike to the same or a different location. This project plan details the intentions and requirements of a project contracted by the Capital
Bikeshare. The project's goal is to increase bike rentals by optimally selecting locations for bike rack stations. As contracted consultant, my intent is to
provide Capital Bikeshare with an analytic tool that evaluates locations in the Washington DC metropolitan statistical area for their fit as bike stations.
The analytic tool includes visuals to supplement the scoring system to assist the Capital Bikeshare operators with their judgments. The success of this
model may be evaluated by the statistical significance of the difference of means test between expert–selected sites and randomly–selected sites. My
goal is to recommend sites that correlate to known successful rental attracting features. Thus the station sites recommends should have a predicted
performance much better than randomly selected sites. While actual ridership at new locations must serve as

Dissent In The Civil Rights Movement
On January 21, 2017, an estimated 500,000 Americans marched on the National Mall, continuing a longstanding tradition of protest on this public
space. On this particular day, protesters sought to send a message to President Donald Trump regarding women's rights. Known as the Women's March,
this event is only one of the more recent examples of large–scale protest and dissent on the National Mall. Throughout American history, protest
movements have often made their way to Washington, D.C., the capital city and political center of the United States. Although the National Mall was
not necessarily designed in a way that fosters protest, it quickly became the foremost venue for American demonstration. As AIDS activist Cleve Jones
once stated, "the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the McMillan Plan left some room for interpretation, it also continued to promote some national ideals – and demonstrators took advantage
of that "state–sponsored fiction of universality... [and] made the Mall the nation's premier setting for political assembly and protest." More simply,
protestors used the glorified sense of union promoted on the Mall to push forward their political dissent. This principle is particularly relevant in
understanding the Civil Rights Movement's utilization of the National Mall. In August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders
planned a "'prayer pilgrimage' to the Lincoln Memorial," where King delivered his most famous speech on its steps. King's choice to deliver his speech
at this memorial was undeniably deliberate. Abolitionist President Lincoln led the United States through the Civil War and gained a reputation as the
man who ended slavery. King's speech, delivered at the memorial that honored that man, outlined the principles of racial equality – focusing on many of
the shortcomings in American society. King's choice of venue suggested that although the Lincoln Memorial celebrated equality in principle, the
United States had a long way to go regarding this issue. This demonstration's use of a feature on the National Mall demonstrated the hypocrisy of it, as
the public space honored a doctrine that was not universally practiced in everyday American life. This march was one of the first of its kind, but it was
certainly not the last. Throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, demonstrations have utilized features of the National Mall to promote relevant
political causes. Demonstrations against the Vietnam War occurred frequently on the National Mall, many of which were less carefully

A Trip to the Capital It was dark after we left the surface to go into the underground concrete tunnel lined with dim orange lights which were placed
about every ten feet. We were in and out of tunnels, stopping at each Metro station. The furthest station from Washington DC, towards Annapolis,
Maryland, called New Carrollton, was run down with garbage on the floor and dirt and stains on the wall. Our final stop was at the slightly better run
station called Smithsonian Metro Station. The people who accompanied me on the trip were my sisters, Megan and Brittney, my aunt, Sondra, and my
cousins, Becky, Nick, and Kate. Not only did we visit the District of Columbia, but we saw the surrounding areas of Arlington, Virginia and Annapolis,

Problem Of Gentrification
Gentrification is a problem that is plaguing cities all over the United States. Within the past decade, there has been an influx of people moving to
Washington D.C., causing gentrification to become a prominent issue in the nation's capital. People who have lived in certain parts of the city for
generations are now being pushed out because of "escalating rents and real estate taxes associated with rising property values" (Duggan). And while it
may be a positive thing that some areas of the city are experiencing revitalization, it's a problem that the people who have been there are unable to
experience it. Furthermore, there are certain areas of the city such as Anacostia, where poverty remains prominent. Gentrification is an issue in
Washington D.C. that doesn't seem like it is going to go away any time soon. The problem of gentrification pertains primarily to class which is
undoubtedly linked to race as well. As previously stated, there has been an influx of people moving into Washington D.C. Between 2000 and 2015 the
population of Washington D.C. has increased by "about 100,000 people" who have mainly been "white professionals" (Duggan). This change in the
population can be reflected in how drastically the average household income has changed within the District of Columbia within the last fifteen years.
In 1999, the average household income in D.C. was $64,401 (United States Census Bureau) and in 2014 it was $104,615 (United States Census
Bureau), a difference of

Summary Of Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Hamilton
The final decade of the 1700's brought new challenges to the American government, one being the split of the Federal party. The split of the federalist
was brought upon by the two different visions in which both Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson had for the future of the nation. The very first
signs of the two different point of view could of been seen when the Judiciary Act of 1789 was passed and that of the Bill of Right. The Judiciary Act
of 1789 reflected on the vision of the federalist to have a strong central government by establishing a district court in each state's. However on the other
hand to be able to reduce such power from the government the anti federalists like Madison added the Bill of Rights, to protect the right of its citizens.
Yet the real problem started when Hamilton, the secretary of treasury issued a series of reports on the public credit. Although the Constitution was
succeeding on getting revenues it wasn't enough to cover the nation's debt with foreign countries. Therefore Hamilton proposed for the assumption of
state debts by the federal government, a part of his plan to help the nation credit to be rescued. Hamilton's plan was aimed to attract the support of
business and commercial interest toward the central government. Yet both Jefferson and Madison rejected Hamilton's plan do to the pure fact that it
hard the southern planters and western farmers thereby declaring his plan unconstitutional. The main components of Hamilton's financial

The Fourth Of August By Audre Lorde
The 4th of July is recognized as the historical anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; the day when the British colonist became Americans.
With the country's new independence, the country experienced new freedoms which it never had before. Therefore, when one reads Audre Lorde's
essay "The Fourth of July", one would think it is about freedom or how the day is represented as a historic anniversary for independence in the United
States. However, Lorde described an appalling summer in 1947 that first exposed her to racism, unfair practices, and inequality in the nation's capital.
The United States has always been a predominantly white nation and the introduction of African Americans as slaves exacerbated the integration of
African Americans in society after the Emancipation Proclamation. Audre Lorde 's essay explores the meaning of independence by exposing the irony
of her trip to Washington, D.C; with specificity and detail, she highlights the contrast between the country 's vague ideas about "Independence" and the
daily reality of living in a racist country as a black person.
Lorde purposely titled her essay "The Fourth of July" in an effort to reveal her frustrations with racism and censure such a celebration. Lorde wanted
to show her frustration after experiencing racism in the capital of the United States. Lorde writes "My parents wouldn't speak of this injustice...This
made me even angrier. My fury was not going to be acknowledged by a like fury." (242) Lorde

The Tax Policy Of Oregon And Washington
Introduction
Taxes policy is one of strategies that states have to increase their competitiveness. From 51 states nation–wide, only five states that do not impose sales
tax or 0% sales tax rate. They are Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon. Without sales tax, in this five states, people can buy
everything without spending extra dollar for tax, which mean they will have extra 'money' for saving or spending to other goods compared to other
states because some of states impose both income and sales tax.
This non–sales tax policy, for sure, brings some changes or impacts to the states, where the regulation enacted and their neighboring states. Oregon and
Washington are the states that has 'strong relationship' due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of not paying one type of tax, some people think it would be more beneficial for them if they do not have to pay both taxes, and how would
it work? There are eleven counties located in Washington's border area with Oregon; they are Asotin, Benton, Clark, Columbia, Cowlitz, Garfield,
Klickitat, Pacific, Skamania, Wahkiakum and Walla Walla. As a result, some counties or cities located near state's borderline have become one of the
most favorable places to live in this country. If we look at the data of Western Washington border counties population, in the last two decades, most
counties show some increases in the number of their total population. Clark County shows the most significant increase where its population goes up
from 345,238 people in 2000 to 451,820 people in 2015, whereas, only Garfield County shows the decrease on its population even though it was only
by 0.26 % in five years.

Analysis Of The March On Washington Speech
The March on Washington was for Jobs and Freedom. It took place in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 1963. There was about 250,000 people total
in attendance. The March on Washington was the largest demonstration ever seen in the nation's capital. It was also the first to have a lot of live
television coverage. Dr.King uses the bible to connect the audience by saying, "The glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it
together." This shows his very strong belief in that all people will stand together and unite one day. Dr.King uses many compariosons throughout his
speech and he refers a hypothetical "check" in which the American people should cash. Dr.King is referring to theEmancipation Proclamation as a
"check" in which was written to Americans that should be "cashed".
Dr. Martin Luther King also makes a point of mentioning that he is a father that wants to establish a better future for his children. He said, "I have
a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their
character." This brings a lot of attention to all the parents listening to the speech. He says that in hope of other parents wanting follow along side him
and want better for the generations of children to come. By using examples from real life situations, the audience was able to relate to what Dr.King
was saying Dr. King showed interest to the values and beliefs of his audience by basically

The Battle Against General Magnus And His Army
It was 1930 at the railhead on Fort Bragg; they had completed loading the equipment on the big black iron monster of a train, and covering them with
heavy black tarps, which they secured to the flatbeds. Colonel Lambert was no longer running the combat train; he remained back in Washington D.C.
with his command, the 3rd Infantry Regiment. With the Army of the Potomac less than thirty miles out of the capital it was time for him to return to
his duties. He placed Major Reese Sales in charge of this particular mission; it was of the highest importance and no doubt would make a huge
difference in the fight against General Magnus and his Army. There were only a few people aware of the cargo that was being transported north, the
Major of course, Colonel Lambert, Brigadier General Clayton – who's idea it was, and the post commander of Fort Bragg. Major Sales boarded the
train with the additional Soldiers he was bringing with him from Bragg; they were there to operate the equipment they were transporting. It would take
a little over twelve hours to make it to the capital, another couple of hours to unload everything, test it, and then get it into action. Both General Clayton
and Colonel Lambert were foaming at the mouth to get them there and into the fight. The train moved out at 1945 under the cover of darkness, it was
time to get some shut–eye Major Sales said to himself, come morning they were going to be very busy. Brigadier General Clayton was back in

have protests on the Mall changed over time." Linked to the explorations tab is a scavenger hunt
selection. At this point, it is almost certainly geared towards a younger audience. There are only
four options in this section: The National World War II Memorial, The Smithsonian Castle, The
Korean War Memorial and the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial. A description of each sites' location
and several zoomed in photographs of aspects in the site are the only components included.
The people tab articulates prominent figures from the past and present that influenced the
formation and development of the national mall. One in particular is Jacob S. Coxey who led the

Coxy was arrested and jailed for 20 days because the law at the time prohibited gatherings on
capital grounds. Much of the information used to craft these descriptions is compiled from the

I Am The Son Of Wilhelm Boing And Marie Ortmann
I am the son of Wilhelm BГ¶ing and Marie Ortmann. I was born in 1881. My family emigrated to the United States from North Rhine–Westphalia way
before i was born. My father died of influenza while on a business trip when I was eight, my mother remarried. I personally did not get along with my
step–father. I was sent to several boarding schools thought out my life. I went to a prep school to prepare myself for Yale University. I went to Yale
and joined the engineering department of the Sheffield Scientific School. After about two years, just before completing the three–year program, I
dropped out of Yale. I dropped out to seek my fortune saying later, "I felt the time was ripe to acquire timber." The evergreen state's population was
increasing. The nation demanded lumber for new homes and businesses. I then moved to Washington state and started the Greenwood Timber Company
and the Boeing & McCrimmon Company. A few years later, I went to California to witness America 's first International Air Meet at Dominguez
Hills. I was going to get to ride in a plane but missed my chance. Just by watching the air show, I was inspired by planes ever since. In 1915 I took
several rides in Terah Maroney's plane. While very excited by this experience, I took lessons at the Glenn L. Martin Flying School in Los Angeles.
After those lessons I became a pilot and bought one of Martin's planes. This is when I made the world look at planes in new ways.

The city of Seattle got its start as a rough logging town, and although it's grown far beyond its humble origins, it retains some of the independent
frontier spirit of its founders. Its location on Puget Sound made it a perfect site for shipping. When it also became the terminus for the Great Northern
Railway during the 1890s, Seattle's population exploded. Its selection for the 1962 World's Fair was such a cause for celebration that one of the fair's
most prominent landmarks remains nearly fifty years later: the Space Needle.
The logging, shipping and railroad industries may have built Seattle, but the city took its name from a chieftain of two regional Native American
cultures, the Suquamish and Duwamish people. In one of the earliest examples of paid naming rights, the town's founders paid Chief Seattle a tidy sum
to give his name to their burgeoning logging town. Chief Seattle would probably take pride in the multicultural port city that bears his name. Its
forward–thinking views on conservation has given the modern city a reputation for being one of the greenest in the nation. Seattle also boasts one of
the country's most educated populations, making it an excellent site for development in science and technology sectors.

Washington Dc And How The Location Of Howard University
After I obtain my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, I would like to go to medical school. I've always wanted to attend Howard College of
Medicine. Primarily, because of the program they have there and the fact that they focus on serving underserved communities. With that, I also really
love the location of the school. Howard University is located in the District of Columbia, our nation's capital. I'm going to discuss Washington DC and
how the location of Howard University plays a role in the school's significance. Washington DC is located on the east coast of the United States,
sandwiched between two states, Maryland and Virginia. The city itself is only 68.3 square miles big. The elevation is 0 ft. above sea level at its
lowest point and 410 ft. above sea level at its highest point. This area is located on the North American Plate. DC isn't often affected by earthquakes.
The nearest fault line is west of the city which runs through Virginia and Maryland. Most times when DC experience's earthquakes it's because of that.
The District of Columbia is essentially located on the Potomac River. The Potomac River is a river that's about 405 miles long and it flows into the
Chesapeake Bay. Also the Anacostia River and the Rock Creek river run through the city and both flow into the Potomac River. Washington DC also

If Hamilton had the intention of never shooting his gun, then Burr must've fired first
It is believed that Hamilton did shoot at Burr by accident, but missed and hit a tree. Burr was then justified to shoot back at Hamilton by code duello
By killing Hamilton, Burr had nothing to gain and everything to lose
Burr might've shot Hamilton on accident too. He was so shocked when Hamilton collapsed, so it's possible he was miss–aiming on purpose but shot

Hamilton insulted Burr but asking him what the word "despicable" meant which not only insulted Burr's character, but his intelligence. Hamilton and

Adam Pelech In The NHL Draft
The NHL draft, once beyond the second round, can be likened to shooting fish in a barrel, as the saying goes. There is no clear cut way of
determining what the end result of a players potential really will be once he has gone through the rigors of your organization's development plan. And
that's not to say the development plan is all that shapes the player. There are many other intangibles and personal factors that come into play as well,
ultimately separating the Shea Weber's from the Michael Del Zotto's (sorry Micheal, just for comparison sake).

and the busy tourist season starting in May and ending in September. An opportunity has surfaced which will allow Diane and Rudy the ability to
expand by purchasing the property next door. The purpose of this paper is to show how now and in the future Grizzly Bear Lodge can ensure guest
satisfaction, what budget considerations can be taken for the expansion and how market controls can implement their expansion. Using the
bureaucratic control approaches is beneficial for the Grizzly Bear Lodge. These approaches will outline problems Grizzly Bear Lodge face if Diane
and Rudy expand and purchase the next–door property. Allowing Diane and Rudy the ability to consider the pros and cons of the expansion and also
fix problems they currently have.
The first approach is feedforward control, which takes place before operations begin and include policies, procedures, and rules designed to ensure that
planned activities are carried out properly (Bateman Snell). Feedforward controls help managers by allowing them managers to plan efficiently,
regulate resources, employees, materials and capital. Feedforward identifies problems before occur and disrupt business. This approach

The Congress Discussion Questions
The Congress Discussion One of the most interesting events that occurred in the early days of Congress occurred when George Washington brought the
Senate the very first treaty to be ratified. Upon his delivery of this treaty Washington expected, being the President, an immediate ratification. However,
before this instance a treaty had never been ratified by the Senate, so they informed Washington that they would have to discuss it. Thereafter,
Washington paced the halls of the Capital Building, until the Senate, establishing their newfound power, informed him it would take a day or two to
be finished (Burns, 1988). This interaction between the President and the Senate, is a crucial example of how early adaptations of power in America

In 1910, Cannon was Speaker of the House as well as Head of the Rules Committee, giving him incomparable power in the House. However,
George Norris, backed by the Progressives in Congress, called for a vote to give the power of electing the Rules Committee to the House, to avoid
the monopoly of power. This example, of recognizing power and dispersing it away from one individual, furthered American ideology of avoiding
dictatorial rule (Burns, 1988). During the film Charles MacDowell, a newspaperman, states, "The Congress is where we speak, the Congress is
where we are. The Congress is where ordinary mortals go about the business of compromise; compromise that gets us through the day" (MacDowell,
1988). This statement is relevant, for me, as it imposes the necessity of compromise in Congress. The way that Mr. MacDowell states the functionality
of Congress, makes it apparent that in this country the power truly lies with people of all beliefs. Therefore, to maintain fairness, compromise must
ensue. Another statement that challenged my personal belief of how Congress operates, was made by Barbara Fields, a historian, stating "I wonder

Development of Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. is considered by many people to be the most important city in not just the United States, but in the whole world. Washington D.C.,
to many, is like the capitol of the free world. Decisions that have made the world how it is today have happened in is very city which was named after
the first president of the United States. As important as the city itself is, its development is just as important. That is why, in the following, we will
explore how Washington D.C. came to be the great city it is today.
George Washington himself chose the location of Washington D.C.; north of where the Potomac and Anacostia rivers meet. The city was officially
founded on July 16, 1790. Pierre Charles L'Enfant, a French architect appointed by George Washington, was to design... Show more content on

is the National Mall. The National Mall consists of the Capitol Building, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial. First, we will talk
about the Washington Monument. The Washington Monument is a stone obelisk over 500 feet tall and is the centerpiece of the National Mall. The
monument is also made out of 40,000 marble and granite blocks and is the tallest freestanding structure in the world. You might ask yourself; What is
holding this structure together? The answer is the monuments weight. After six years of construction on the monument, the project ran out of money
because of the young nation going to civil war. The monument was only 150 feet in the air at this point. Twenty–four years later, 1878, construction
once again began on the Washington Monument. Thomas Lincoln Casey was the head engineer on the construction, but was faced with a problem
right away because the original blocks were not available anymore. That is why the bottom portion of the structure is a different shade than the top
portion. Casey had another problem; Congress could not reach a decision on how the Monument should be

The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge
As it aged into the twenty–first century, Washington State Route 520's Evergreen Point Floating Bridge began experiencing significant problems that
indicated it was approaching the end of its useful lifespan. Government agencies big and small came together to bring forth a replacement bridge
project to improve the safety and quality of transportation infrastructure to and from the City of Seattle for many years to come. Over a five–year span,
construction was performed to create a floating pontoon bridge, similar in style to the original, but wider and better equipped to withstand the natural
conditions of Lake Washington and the Puget Sound region.

More than two decades before Evergreen Point, in 1940, Washington completed the construction of the Lake Washington Floating Bridge. While
shorter, the bridge uses the same design concept that would be used for Evergreen Point, floating pontoons that provide support as opposed to more
costly foundations into the deep, soft lakebed of Lake Washington. Later renamed the Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge, Lake Washington's first
floating bridge became part of Interstate 90 under President Dwight D. Eisenhower when the Interstate Highway System was created (FWHA
/USDOT, 2013). Like Evergreen Point, this bridge required an upgrade, a new parallel bridge structure in 1989. In contrast to Evergreen Point, the old
bridge was never slated for removal; it was repaired and is still in use for one direction of the crossing (WSDOT,

Death Of A Leader In Walt Whitman's O Captain My Captain
Many Leaders lack the ability to move people. Mourning the death of a leader is an even bigger task to take on. Abraham Lincoln, in this case was an
exception. In the famous poem, "O Captain! My Captain!" Written by, Walt Whitman in the year 1865. The poem, refers to a terrible event in American
history; the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Instead of the country celebrating and rejoicing over the ending of the Civil War and being
happy over the country being kept whole, everyone was mourning in the loss of their leader. Aboard a ship, the poem is about a fellow sailor
grieving from the loss of his captain. The sailor in the poem is singing a song that praises his captain for leading them safely on their voyage and
leading them back home. As the other sailors are celebrating their homecoming with everyone on shore, the sailor notices the captain. He is dead,
lying on the deck of the ship "fallen cold and dead"(line 8). The sailor goes on and mournfully walks on the deck where the captain had died while
the people on shore are unaware of their fallen leader. " Rise up and hear the bells;"(Line 9). The sailor says wishing his captain could witness the
excitement. Everyone adored the captain and admitted that his death feels like a terrible dream, " It is some dream that on the deck, you've fallen cold
and dead." (Lines 15–16). Then in the final stanza of the poem, the sailor puts together his feelings of mourning and pride. (Whitman)

The Political System Of The United States
Thomas Jefferson, an American Founding Father once wrote that "design activity and political thought are indivisible," stating that architecture acts as
a vital instrument in conveying political image. In this case, the prominent symbols of government in any polity would be the national parliamentary
buildings as they demonstrate faith in the cultural identity of a nation internally as well as foreign country. Likewise, United States of America is
known as a land of democracy and the Congress House of U.S., Capitol building in Washington D.C supposedly reflects the democratic political
system. The U.S. Capitol is the legislative branch of U.S. federal government that sit atop the Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. After going through
many construction phases which was started in 1793, the original building was finally completed in the year 1800. Subsequently, it was expanded and
the new massive dome was added in 1863. (Schwengel 1965, 52–53)
Pierre Charles L'Enfant, an architect who are assigned to design the layout of streets in Washington D.C while the architects of Capitol building are
Benjamin H. Latrobe, Thomas U. Walter and more. L'Enfant designed the streets in the form of cardinally oriented grid pattern that superimposed on
diagonal plan, forming focal points where the Capitol building is placed on one of them. His intention of creating these focal points is to symbolise the

The Three Branches of American Government
"It matters enormously to a successful democratic society like ours that we have three branches of government, each with some independence and
some control over the other two. That 's set out in the Constitution."(Sandra Day O'connor). In order for a government that is for the people and by the
people to survive the government has to change with its people. This is seen by the United states government. While it still has the three branches
originally established, the branches have changed with themselves and with how they interact with each other.
The Legislative branch was formed in 1789 with the 1st congress. The first congress contained 65 representatives, 37 of them were pro–administration
and 28 of them were anti–administration.(About the First Federal Congress (1789–1791). Also there were 26 senators.("About the First Federal
Congress (1789–1791") The role of this congress was to demonstrate the US constitution 's framework. This congress also helped to answer questions
and address the concerns that were brought about during ratification. The 1st Congress set up the rules and procedures for the House and the Senate.
The Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate were established by the congress. This congress was tasked with taking care of revolutionary
war debt and the deciding where the future Capital would be located, however, they never established the location

George Washington's Influence On Society
"'The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security... in the absolute power of an individual', " (George
Washington, The American Journey, page 266). George Washington is well
–known as America's marvelous first president, but fewer know the
struggles he faces during his two terms as the country's leader. While in office, George Washington sets a multitude of precedents that help shape the
country in its early stages but, his actions meet repercussions. Washington must deal with the nation's crippling war debt; however, the people reject
many of Washington's choices. To keep the new country alive, George Washington has to overcome the challenges he encounters, and every decision he

As America's first president, George Washington creates multiple precedents or traditions he knows will stick. While giving the first Inaugural

My Summer Vacation
My summer of 2017 consisted of visiting places all over the United States such as New York City, Washington D.C., and Florida. Not only did
traveling this summer teach me new things, but it also made me go outside my comfort zone and experience new things. This was single–handedly the
best summer of my life and wish I could relive it over again.
On the last day of school, my mom surprised me with a spontaneous trip to florida on the next day. We went to Del Ray Beach, Florida. This beach
is on the north side of the state; so rather than waiting for sunset, we got up for sunrise! Leaving the next morning, we arrived in Florida for the
first time ever that night. We arrived around 9 pm and it was 85 degrees in pitch black. Florida is so unbelievably humid and hot all around the
clock. While in Florida, we shopped, drove along the coast, and went to an Alligator farm. Unlike the other trips, this one consisted of laying on the
beach and relaxing all day. This trip was probably honestly my least favorite trip of the three.
Towards the end of the summer, I was invited to go on a paid trip with my basketball team to the capital of the United States,Washington D.C. Not
only was this trip exciting, but also a great learning experience; considering I didn't go with our school in 8th grade. We walked past the White House
and i didn't know the White House has 35 bathrooms! Like 4 people live there, what's the use? Also, the amount of security surrounding the white house

George Washington 's Farewell Address Essay
It was this date 1796 that George Washington gave his "Farewell Address." This profoundly important message is still read each year in the Senate.
On September 19, 1796, US President George Washington published his Farewell Address to the nation of citizens. It was a thoroughly thoughtful
analysis of our new nation, its needs for the future and his plans to decline to seek a third term as president. It was not delivered as a speech, but rather
published in many newspapers and public venues.
George Washington announced his permanent retreat from the world 220 years ago today. His "Farewell Address," first drafted by Madison and later
newspaper in America and read widely throughout Europe. Tinged by the dark, sober though that he must soon be to the mansions of rest. It contains a
penetrating analysis highly relevant to our domestic affairs today, and it remains superior to most comparable documents produced since. He offers his
parting words as a disinterested onlooker, an old and affectionate friend who, without flattery, deals frankly with his countryman, as is becoming free
citizens.
Washington 's Farewell Address Analysis
The two main themes that he warns against are true and occurring in this current day and age. Political parties are growing and becoming too powerful.
That our foreign affairs should be temporary and only to the benefit of the United States and that we should maintain neutrality at all cost. George
Washington had a crystal ball into our nation's

Anaphora In I Have A Dream Speech
Civil rights leader and reverend Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have a Dream" speech on the 28th of August in 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln
Memorial in Washington, D.C. King gives this speech in the midst of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where about 250,000 African
Americans and white civil rights activists marched, making it the largest demonstration ever seen in the nation's capital, and one of the first to have
extensive television coverage ("Civil Rights March on Washington"). In order to fight for civil and economic rights and guide his fellow activists in
their actions, King utilizes an extended metaphor, many anaphoras, and analogies as aids along with his confident but urgent tone.

In the beginning of the speech King repeats the phrase, "One hundred years later. . ."(King Jr.) in regards to previously alluding to the Emancipation
Proclamation and Abraham Lincoln. This is significant to the occasion because King is delivering his speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial,
and, furthermore, Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation issued freedom to all slaves in the Confederate States of the Civil War, making Lincoln an
icon for civil rights in America. His claim that African Americans should demand and do deserve their unalienable rights as citizens of theUnited States
is supported here by inciting patriotism and passion in his audience in order to motivate them to demand these rights. But not only does he motivate
them to make a difference, he strategically implies that now, one hundred years later, they must do things the right way in order to be successful. One
of the most famous parts of his speech is the repetition of the phrase "I have a dream. . ."(King Jr.). Following the repetition of this phrase in the

The Verizon Center, formerly know as the MCI Center, is a 220,000 square foot arena that can hold around 20,000 built in 1997 (Casey, 64). This new
construction brought new life to downtown D.C. In response, the Wizards "saw a 100 percent increase in their advertising returns when they built a

What Are Presidential Highs And Lows

  • 1. What Are Presidential Highs And Lows Presidential Highs and Lows Marley Page12–2–15Writing Assignment–newspaper editor in 1817 There were many highs and lows during the presidencies of our first presidents. They all served us well even though there were times it was not that great. The first presidents were George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. George Washington served us well as our first president. Some major high points include: the Constitution being ratified, the capital was created, and the Bill of Rights was ratified. The Constitution was very important. Our whole government was created by that document and it was ratified under President Washington. Washington also picked where the capital would be. He made the District of Columbia (D.C.). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

PROJECT SCOPE: The Capital Bikeshare system is jointly owned in the jurisdictions where it operates: the District of Columbia, Arlington County, Alexandria, and Montgomery County. Capital Bikeshare employs a community use model where an individual checks a bike out from one of many locations and returns to the bike to the same or a different location. This project plan details the intentions and requirements of a project contracted by the Capital Bikeshare. The project's goal is to increase bike rentals by optimally selecting locations for bike rack stations. As contracted consultant, my intent is to provide Capital Bikeshare with an analytic tool that evaluates locations in the Washington DC metropolitan statistical area for their fit as bike stations. The analytic tool includes visuals to supplement the scoring system to assist the Capital Bikeshare operators with their judgments. The success of this model may be evaluated by the statistical significance of the difference of means test between expert–selected sites and randomly–selected sites. My goal is to recommend sites that correlate to known successful rental attracting features. Thus the station sites recommends should have a predicted performance much better than randomly selected sites. While actual ridership at new locations must serve as ... • 3. Dissent In The Civil Rights Movement On January 21, 2017, an estimated 500,000 Americans marched on the National Mall, continuing a longstanding tradition of protest on this public space. On this particular day, protesters sought to send a message to President Donald Trump regarding women's rights. Known as the Women's March, this event is only one of the more recent examples of large–scale protest and dissent on the National Mall. Throughout American history, protest movements have often made their way to Washington, D.C., the capital city and political center of the United States. Although the National Mall was not necessarily designed in a way that fosters protest, it quickly became the foremost venue for American demonstration. As AIDS activist Cleve Jones once stated, "the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the McMillan Plan left some room for interpretation, it also continued to promote some national ideals – and demonstrators took advantage of that "state–sponsored fiction of universality... [and] made the Mall the nation's premier setting for political assembly and protest." More simply, protestors used the glorified sense of union promoted on the Mall to push forward their political dissent. This principle is particularly relevant in understanding the Civil Rights Movement's utilization of the National Mall. In August 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders planned a "'prayer pilgrimage' to the Lincoln Memorial," where King delivered his most famous speech on its steps. King's choice to deliver his speech at this memorial was undeniably deliberate. Abolitionist President Lincoln led the United States through the Civil War and gained a reputation as the man who ended slavery. King's speech, delivered at the memorial that honored that man, outlined the principles of racial equality – focusing on many of the shortcomings in American society. King's choice of venue suggested that although the Lincoln Memorial celebrated equality in principle, the United States had a long way to go regarding this issue. This demonstration's use of a feature on the National Mall demonstrated the hypocrisy of it, as the public space honored a doctrine that was not universally practiced in everyday American life. This march was one of the first of its kind, but it was certainly not the last. Throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, demonstrations have utilized features of the National Mall to promote relevant political causes. Demonstrations against the Vietnam War occurred frequently on the National Mall, many of which were less carefully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Holocaust Museum Visit A Trip to the Capital It was dark after we left the surface to go into the underground concrete tunnel lined with dim orange lights which were placed about every ten feet. We were in and out of tunnels, stopping at each Metro station. The furthest station from Washington DC, towards Annapolis, Maryland, called New Carrollton, was run down with garbage on the floor and dirt and stains on the wall. Our final stop was at the slightly better run station called Smithsonian Metro Station. The people who accompanied me on the trip were my sisters, Megan and Brittney, my aunt, Sondra, and my cousins, Becky, Nick, and Kate. • 5. Problem Of Gentrification Gentrification is a problem that is plaguing cities all over the United States. Within the past decade, there has been an influx of people moving to Washington D.C., causing gentrification to become a prominent issue in the nation's capital. People who have lived in certain parts of the city for generations are now being pushed out because of "escalating rents and real estate taxes associated with rising property values" (Duggan). And while it may be a positive thing that some areas of the city are experiencing revitalization, it's a problem that the people who have been there are unable to experience it. Furthermore, there are certain areas of the city such as Anacostia, where poverty remains prominent. Gentrification is an issue in Washington D.C. that doesn't seem like it is going to go away any time soon. The problem of gentrification pertains primarily to class which is undoubtedly linked to race as well. As previously stated, there has been an influx of people moving into Washington D.C. Between 2000 and 2015 the population of Washington D.C. has increased by "about 100,000 people" who have mainly been "white professionals" (Duggan). This change in the population can be reflected in how drastically the average household income has changed within the District of Columbia within the last fifteen years. In 1999, the average household income in D.C. was $64,401 (United States Census Bureau) and in 2014 it was $104,615 (United States Census Bureau), a difference of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Hamilton The final decade of the 1700's brought new challenges to the American government, one being the split of the Federal party. The split of the federalist was brought upon by the two different visions in which both Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson had for the future of the nation. The very first signs of the two different point of view could of been seen when the Judiciary Act of 1789 was passed and that of the Bill of Right. The Judiciary Act of 1789 reflected on the vision of the federalist to have a strong central government by establishing a district court in each state's. However on the other hand to be able to reduce such power from the government the anti federalists like Madison added the Bill of Rights, to protect the right of its citizens. Yet the real problem started when Hamilton, the secretary of treasury issued a series of reports on the public credit. Although the Constitution was succeeding on getting revenues it wasn't enough to cover the nation's debt with foreign countries. Therefore Hamilton proposed for the assumption of state debts by the federal government, a part of his plan to help the nation credit to be rescued. Hamilton's plan was aimed to attract the support of business and commercial interest toward the central government. Yet both Jefferson and Madison rejected Hamilton's plan do to the pure fact that it hard the southern planters and western farmers thereby declaring his plan unconstitutional. • 11. The Fourth Of August By Audre Lorde The 4th of July is recognized as the historical anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; the day when the British colonist became Americans. With the country's new independence, the country experienced new freedoms which it never had before. Therefore, when one reads Audre Lorde's essay "The Fourth of July", one would think it is about freedom or how the day is represented as a historic anniversary for independence in the United States. However, Lorde described an appalling summer in 1947 that first exposed her to racism, unfair practices, and inequality in the nation's capital. The United States has always been a predominantly white nation and the introduction of African Americans as slaves exacerbated the integration of African Americans in society after the Emancipation Proclamation. Audre Lorde 's essay explores the meaning of independence by exposing the irony of her trip to Washington, D.C; with specificity and detail, she highlights the contrast between the country 's vague ideas about "Independence" and the daily reality of living in a racist country as a black person. Lorde purposely titled her essay "The Fourth of July" in an effort to reveal her frustrations with racism and censure such a celebration. Lorde wanted to show her frustration after experiencing racism in the capital of the United States. Lorde writes "My parents wouldn't speak of this injustice...This made me even angrier. My fury was not going to be acknowledged by a like fury." (242) Lorde ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was about 250,000 people total in attendance. The March on Washington was the largest demonstration ever seen in the nation's capital. It was also the first to have a lot of live television coverage. Dr.King uses the bible to connect the audience by saying, "The glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together." This shows his very strong belief in that all people will stand together and unite one day. Dr.King uses many compariosons throughout his speech and he refers a hypothetical "check" in which the American people should cash. Dr.King is referring to theEmancipation Proclamation as a "check" in which was written to Americans that should be "cashed". Dr. Martin Luther King also makes a point of mentioning that he is a father that wants to establish a better future for his children. He said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character." This brings a lot of attention to all the parents listening to the speech. He says that in hope of other parents wanting follow along side him and want better for the generations of children to come. The Battle Against General Magnus And His Army It was 1930 at the railhead on Fort Bragg; they had completed loading the equipment on the big black iron monster of a train, and covering them with heavy black tarps, which they secured to the flatbeds. Colonel Lambert was no longer running the combat train; he remained back in Washington D.C. with his command, the 3rd Infantry Regiment. With the Army of the Potomac less than thirty miles out of the capital it was time for him to return to his duties. He placed Major Reese Sales in charge of this particular mission; it was of the highest importance and no doubt would make a huge difference in the fight against General Magnus and his Army. There were only a few people aware of the cargo that was being transported north, the Major of course, Colonel Lambert, Brigadier General Clayton – who's idea it was, and the post commander of Fort Bragg. Major Sales boarded the train with the additional Soldiers he was bringing with him from Bragg; they were there to operate the equipment they were transporting. It would take a little over twelve hours to make it to the capital, another couple of hours to unload everything, test it, and then get it into action. Both General Clayton and Colonel Lambert were foaming at the mouth to get them there and into the fight. A few years later, I went to California to witness America 's first International Air Meet at Dominguez Hills. I was going to get to ride in a plane but missed my chance. Just by watching the air show, I was inspired by planes ever since. In 1915 I took several rides in Terah Maroney's plane. While very excited by this experience, I took lessons at the Glenn L. Its selection for the 1962 World's Fair was such a cause for celebration that one of the fair's most prominent landmarks remains nearly fifty years later: the Space Needle. The logging, shipping and railroad industries may have built Seattle, but the city took its name from a chieftain of two regional Native American cultures, the Suquamish and Duwamish people. In one of the earliest examples of paid naming rights, the town's founders paid Chief Seattle a tidy sum to give his name to their burgeoning logging town. Upon his delivery of this treaty Washington expected, being the President, an immediate ratification. However, before this instance a treaty had never been ratified by the Senate, so they informed Washington that they would have to discuss it. Thereafter, Washington paced the halls of the Capital Building, until the Senate, establishing their newfound power, informed him it would take a day or two to be finished (Burns, 1988). In 1910, Cannon was Speaker of the House as well as Head of the Rules Committee, giving him incomparable power in the House. However, George Norris, backed by the Progressives in Congress, called for a vote to give the power of electing the Rules Committee to the House, to avoid the monopoly of power. This example, of recognizing power and dispersing it away from one individual, furthered American ideology of avoiding dictatorial rule (Burns, 1988). During the film Charles MacDowell, a newspaperman, states, "The Congress is where we speak, the Congress is where we are. This statement is relevant, for me, as it imposes the necessity of compromise in Congress. The way that Mr. MacDowell states the functionality of Congress, makes it apparent that in this country the power truly lies with people of all beliefs. Therefore, to maintain fairness, compromise must ensue. But not only does he motivate them to make a difference, he strategically implies that now, one hundred years later, they must do things the right way in order to be successful. One of the most famous parts of his speech is the repetition of the phrase "I have a dream. . ."(King Jr.).
