2. Introduction
For my As media studies coursework , my preliminary task is to complete two
assignments, photographic and video task. As a part of a group we decided to do
photographic task individually and video together.
These two assignments will demonstrate my knowledge and understanding as well
as technical ability to use necessary equipment and programs (CAD and CAM) in
order to fulfil coursework material.
• Photo story assignment: Creating a photo story , called ”Meeting“ as a individual
task. Main purpose of this task is to learn framing and type of shots witch are used in
film industry. Besides the above mentioned I will get familiar with creating a visual
narrative structure.
• Video continuity assignment: In this group task we need to produce a video
sequence titled meeting. Wile creating a short video narrative we need to demonstrate
our ability to use video equipment and video editing program.
4. Continuity assignment
Main focus for the second assignment was to produce a continuity sequence that lasts
approximately 1 minute. The clip showcases my understanding of the following three media
techniques:
1. The 180 degree rule, is a basic guideline that states that two characters in the same scene
should always have the same left/right relationship to each other
2. Shots/reverse shot is when one character is shown looking at another character, and the other
character is shown looking back at the first character
3. Match on action is when an action that begins in one shot is continued or completed into the next
scene
5. The 180 degree rule
The 180 degree rule states that during the filming
procedure of two elements, camera must stay
within a 180 degree field and not cross the axis of
action which refers to an imaginary line which cuts
through the middle of scene, from left to right sides
of the frame, with respect to the camera.
If the camera crosses the axis of action confusion
and disorientation can be caused from the side of
the audience because of natural view of the subject
is reversed
The effect achieved when using the 180 degree
rule is that it involves the audience into the
conversation by using various shots of quick pace
to capture the poignant facial expressions of the
characters
6. Shot/reverse shot
Shot/Reverse shot is a crucial editing technique when
filming dialogues. Traditionally, the process utilizes the 180
rule, eye line match and rule of change among others.
The essential components consists of a three camera set
up.
The basic shots required to fulfil the principles of the this
editing process are: a two-shot of the characters( wide or
medium shot); an over the shoulder shot on character A
and ovre the shoulder shot on character B
It is used to involve the audience into the dialogue due to
them not being able to notice the cuts
7. Match on Action
This editing technique includes
cutting from one shot to another,
portraying the actions of the
character from the first shot
It results in a visual bridge, so the
action flows and no pauses that
would make the scene seem
unnatural in terms of reality and
validity are made

Video assignment:
potential ideas
9. Working title: Trick the Devil
One day, a socially and emotionally troubled girl decided to make a deal with the
Devil. In order to achieve her goal she decides to trade her soul for the ability to
persuade anyone into anything. She came to the Devil and proposed her deal, and
he accepted it. With new found ability the girl attempts to trick and submit him
under her will.
10. Devil: Evan Peters The girl: Madelaine Petsch
•The lead character isn’t going to be
portrayed as a stereotypical devil.
Going against the grain, he will be
presented as a young teenage boy
with messy hair and dreamy eyes,
making every girl attracted to him. His
looks and charm make it easier to lure
his victims and steal human souls.
The girl is a stereotypical portrayal of a
innocent, gullible, fragile girl. Her skin is
pale and overall naïve appearance.
However, her red hair contrasts that
innocence. Through history, red heads
were burned since people believed they
were witches. It gives our character
toughness and cunningness it takes to
outsmart the devil.
23. Location Filming:
Main editing problem that we
have encountered is not being
able to insert Photoshop
created captions instead we
have to use program pre
designed text credits creator
24. Our camera was having problem
with focusing so we have scenes
that are out of a focus. For our
final we will make sure to check
twice if camera is focused.
Even if we had tripod we had problem of
camera shacking in scene. I guess the reason
was that it was our first time filming and we are
unexperienced. We will practice more before
filming our final task
25. During editing we relisted that
one video has a bad sound. We
did not had microphones so the
sound could not be good. And we
could not refilm scene , because
actors have school and it would
be almost impossible to organize
everything again. We will make
sure to check sound in our final
26. Editing:
For preliminary task bought of us have decided to use pinical studio 15 video editing program. This program
is considered semiprofessional and it is user-friendly. Mein editing problem that wee have encountered is not
being able to insert Photoshop created captions instead we have to use program pre designed text credits
creator as the focus was on camera work and editing so credits are basic and simple
