2. Front cover analysis: From the front covers I analysed, I found that magazines uses plenty of techniques and layouts to attract their audience. All magazine used reversed out of various products, this seems like a good idea as the text (articles) and especially the masthead are important to consumers. Colours where also used to attract the different target audiences of the magazine e.g. The ‘CLASH’ magazine has a clear audience of females and they attract them by using the feminine colour of pink, whilst some masculine magazines used either neutral colours like black and grey or colours considered to be masculine like ‘NME’ using the colour red to attract their male audience. I have learnt that it is important to attract my target audience to my front cover by the use of colours, and more importantly don’t repel my target audience by using the wrong colours for example my male target audience wouldn't glance at my magazine if it had pink or purple as my main colour. Many of the magazines I research used a main image of a person that was looking into the camera, this is a technique I can use to engage the audience, as when consumers walk past my main image it will seem like the person in the image is looking at them.
3. Contents page analysis: Similarly techniques follow on from the front cover to the contents page, as it also uses the reversed out technique this is mostly used to simply make the text easy to read, this will feature in my contents page as it clearly displays my pages and articles etc. Like over magazines my magazine will have the same colour theme (Hopefully of masculine colours to target my audience) for the front and the contents page, the colours the magazines usually used is often associated to this magazine, for example ‘NME’ has a red colour theme throughout. All magazines I researched have images, and some use the images to link the page numbers to the image, I hope to used this as it helps the audience to understand the content of each page/article.
4. Double-page spread analysis: All double page spread have plenty of text all using reversed out to make it as clear as possible to the audience. all have a main image, my production would hopefully feature a main image corresponding to the article as it attracts the audience to the article due to it being the first thing the audience sees and it allows the audience to understand what the article is about. All magazine have a heading that tells the audience what the subject of the article is, some use rhetorical questions which suggest that the question will be answered in the article. this is a good technique that I will take into account when producing my double page spread. Most double page spread uses a variety of colours and font in the heading and the image, but there is little colours and weird fonts in the main text, this allows the audience to focus on the text when their reading.
5. Audience questionnaire: From the question I noticed that their is a gap in the market for a R’n’B or Hip Hop genre magazine as although the ‘VIBE’ magazine which focuses on these genres is big the market for the genres is bigger. I found that my magazine would benefit on being a monthly magazine as it allows plenty of content. In my questionnaire I learnt about the artists and bands that my audience would want to cover, I found many artists that would fit in with my genre of magazine. I found that free gifts can attract the audience as well as having detailed articles, however free gifts would attract my audience immediately, rather than having to build up a good reputation for having detailed articles. I aim to offer my audience places that they can go to find the songs by artists that I have cover, for example links to websites like YouTube.
