Media Format (film,
documentary, motion
graphics,
photography,
animation, graphic
design etc)
For my final major project I will be using three different media formats,
Photography, Advert and a Magazine cover. I have picked to do all three as
I feel I can link them all together to make one big project. I also feel I can do
this as I have had experience making similar projects in the past, for
example a music video.
Synopsis of Idea
(content, narrative,
genre)
The general theme for my final major project is winter sports (Skiing,
Snowboarding). It is for this reason I am doing three different media
formats which all link together. The first part of my final major project is an
advert, In which I will be advertising a K2 Parkstar snowboard. I will be
filming my advert mainly at the chill factor so I can get some interesting
camera shots of somebody actually using the snow board. I am going to
include a few shots where somebody will either do a trick on the
snowboard or do a jump. This is so my advert looks more professional and
is more similar to actual snowboarding/skiing adverts. I am going to have a
few effects in my advert to make it more visually appealing to my target
audience and to make it more interesting. I will use an upbeat song with
this advert as I think it fit together and make it more entertaining. After
filming is complete I will edit the footage together on programmes such as
Adobe after effects and Adobe Premier pro, from that I can make my final
draft of my advert.
The second part of my final major project is photography. I am going to
take photos of the K2 Parkstar snowboard I am making my advertisement
about, the chill factor itself and other winter sport related items (Ski boots
etc). I am going to use various effects and camera techniques in these
photos so I can make an interesting portfolio which displays everything I
have learned in photography. In this portfolio I will analyse the photos to
describe the shots and angles etc. After I have taken a good range of
different photos I can link them into the last part of my final major project
(Magazine cover). By doing this I can edit the photos on programmes such
as Photoshop to make them look professional on the magazine and to add
effects if I think they improve the photos. I will take almost all of the photos
at the chill factor, however I may also use the photography studio at
college. The third and final part of my final major project is a Magazine
cover. My cover will be about winter sports, but focusing mainly on
snowboarding like the other two parts of my project. I will use images I
have taken from my photography and have them on the cover, using
effects to make it more professional looking and to display my editing skills.
I am going to research actual snowboarding magazines for ideas and
inspiration on what to put on my cover. I will try to make my cover more
eye catching by using bright vibrant colours, this will make it more
appealing to the audience. I am planning on creating my Magazine cover on
a programme such as Photoshop.
The target audience for my final major project is pretty widely ranged. It is
aimed at teenagers to young adults of both genders who have an interest in
winter sports, but more specifically skiing and snowboarding. I would also
say it is aimed at people who are interesting in trying these sports or people
looking to buy new equipment, such as snowboards and Ski boots etc.

Target Audience
Needs?
In the advert the needs of the audience are quite simple, the audience
needs to be entertained throughout my advert to keep their attention on
the product. They need to see all the good features of the product and why
they should buy that particular one instead of other brands. Also I think
they need to feel like they want the product (Snowboard) by the end of the
advert as that is the main purpose of advertising. In the photography I
want the audience to see all the different photography techniques and to
think that the photos are professional. I want the magazine cover to attract
the attention of the audience with interesting images and colours and to
capture their interest visually, enough so that they read the text on the
cover.
How will your project
meet the needs of
your target audience?
(Make reference to
content you think will
appeal to your target
audience)
In my advert I will use interesting footage (Somebody preforming tricks or
jumps on the snowboard) and use a variety of camera angles. This should
keep the audience interested throughout my advert. To make them want
the product I will show all its good features and point them out throughout
my advert. In my photography I will analyse all my photos so the audience
know the camera techniques and angles I have used, I will also use effects
so my photos look more professional. I will use my best pictures and vibrant
colours to capture the audience’s interest and make them read my
magazine cover.
What production
techniques will you
use to realise your
project?
In my advert I will use a variety of different shots, such as panning shots,
close ups, long distance shots and maybe an extreme close up on the
snowboard itself. Then when I am editing I will use lighting effects so it
doesn’t look bleak and more vibrant, I may also use more complex effects
such as slow motion. In my photography I will try and cover as many
different angles and shots as possible including close up, extreme close up,
long distance and others. I will use different angles when I am taking my
photos also such as; worms eye view, low view, neutral view, high view.
I will use effects to edit the lighting to make them more colourful and
interesting to the audience. With my magazine I will use effects such as
dynamic lighting to put my cover together and use simple tools such as crop
so I can get the images to the way I would like them.
