Unit 57: Photography and
Photographic Practice
Task 4 Selection of final images &
review
2. Aim of Shoot
The aim of is shoot was to get images to make a
professional looking magazine front cover. I
used Jack Rogers as the main focus of my
photo-shoot, as professional music themed
magazines such as Rolling Stone use images of
celebrity's on their front covers.
3. Description of shoot
I believe this to be the best image out of my
photoshoot, as I feel it looks professional and
because I like the interesting angle which was
taken from above In the photography studio. I
ended up taking this image after I decided that
generic angles would look boring and simple
compared to professional magazines. I had jack
go against the white screen to create a good
contrast between the white and the blue on his
jacket. I used the lighting to create a brighter
range of colours and to make the image more
visually attractive. This changed from my
original plan as I was only going to take
photographs in the radio studio originally.
4. Editing effects
This is one of the final images I have edited.
First I used the black and white effect to get
all the colour off my image. Then I used the
history brush tool, to re-input the colour on to
selected parts of the photograph. I only recoloured in the red cap as I thought that
would stand out most against the bold
contrast of black and white. I then decided
that I would not further edit this image as I
didn’t want to make it too complex, I also felt
that once I have actually started making the
cover the text and everything else would
become to much to look at once if I added
more colour.
5. Final Images
• Paste the final images
here and discuss their
strengths / weaknesses
e.g. say why you liked
them / why you chose
them
• Mention focus, depth of
field, rule of thirds,
composition,
7. Rejected Images
I rejected this image because I felt the
flash was too bright and because the
camera was to close up to the subject.
I rejected both of these images as I didn’t feel the
subject was pulling the appropriate pose for a music
magazine cover.
