TV Advertising Codes and Conventions of kid’s cereal
Technical codes
The technical codes are the camera shot angles and computer graphics ta are usually in o a kid’s
cerealadvertisement. There are usuallyextreme close ups of the cereal bowls and the spoon with the
cereal on the spoon .It also usually has a mixed between real footage and surrealfootage that would
be digitally creative characters and effects. There are to different ways with the animated characters
are made ether by stop motion animation which would be used with creative produces like clay or to
dingilyanimated them. the lighting of most cereal advertisements are mainly bright which will put
more lighting on the box or the bowl of cereal because that is the product that they are planning to
sell .the colours in the advertises are bright colours so they will easily attract the attention of
younger people . the characters that are shown on the advert is iconic because it is the same cartoon
character that is on the box it is also easy to know who they are because they can be told apart from
other cartoon characters . The music in the advertisement is calm happy sounding music which is
aimed at children. They also have a catch phrase that is iconic to the brand of cereal these are
phrases that will get into your head and make you want to repeat them “ I’d rather have a bowl of co
co pops “
Symbolic codes
The symbolic codesare the language and acts that the characters say and do .the language they uses
in the advertisement is simple words a phrase that are easy to understand from the ears of children
it will not say compressed words that children would not be able to understand . The voice actor
always has an outgoing voice that would make children want the buy the product the voice actors
is usually young and as a voice that would be found in a children’scartoon. They also speakI a
friendly voice as though they are talking to the watcher of theadvertisement. At the end of
theadvertisement there is always a child eating thecereal the child is always smiling as though they
are really enjoying the cereal this makes the watches think it is really nice so they will want to go out
and buy it.
Conventions
In most children cereal advertisement they have the animated character that is themascot the box
somewhere in the advertisement ether they go with a story based around them or the character will
just make a cameo in the advert . They will always have a young child at the age of 7 to 10 years old
and they will eat the cereal out of a bowl this child will all ways look as though he is enjoying the
food. it is usually set in a animated world but it will also have scenes in the kitchen or dining room of
the house .the product will always be showed in theadvertise as well as tem always saying there
catchphrase at the end of the advert . It will have an extreme close up of the cereal bowl and it will
also show them poring milk into the bowl. It will have some happy sounding music playing.
