Advertising The New Deal Case Study
Advertising the New Deal
The Great Depression brought on a lot of hardships for the American people. President Hoover
believed that it was best to not get involved and everything would work itself out. This angered the
American people, and, in 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected into office to "fix" the problem.
With this great task, he wanted to keep the public informed and began to have "fireside chats" in
which he would explain the problem at hand and possible solutions to the problem that became
known as the New Deal. The New Deal involved reforms for banking, business, creating jobs,
famers, homeowners, and the stock market.

How Roosevelt And His New Deal Prolonged The Great Depression
How Roosevelt And His New Deal Prolonged The Great Depression The traditional view of
Franklin D. Roosevelt is that he motivated and helped the United States during the "Great
Depression" and was a great president, however, as time has passed, economist historians have
begun analyzing Roosevelt's presidency. Many have concluded that he did not help America during
the Great Depression but instead amplified and prolonged the depression. Jim Powell wrote about
FDR economic policies and did an excellent job explaining Roosevelt's incompetent initiatives.
Roosevelt did not know anything about economics and his advisors made everything worse by
admiring the Soviet Union.

One policy would create jobs and another one would increase taxes. Franklin D. Roosevelt hired
advisors called the "Brain Trust." Many of his advisors were graduates from top universities in the
United States, such as Harvard, Yale, University of Chicago, and Columbia. All of his advisors were
successful in their careers as business people or lawyers, leaving one to wonder why they could not
solve the problems of the Great Depression.
The National Recovery Administration was created by Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of the New
Deal policies. The National Recovery Administration increased the prices of manufactured goods. It
hurt the farmers that needed to buy tools and equipment. As they did not have the money to buy the
taxed equipment, they could not do their job. It was a detriment both the consumers and the
companies. "New Deal spending was supposed to stimulate the economy, but New Deal taxing
depressed the economy."
The National Recovery Administration was a monopoly controlled by big business. The United
States Supreme Court killed the NRA because it was un–constitutional, but it was replaced by other
agencies "The U.S. Supreme court struck down the NRA and a number of other early New Deal
measures for violating the Constitution." The agency that replaced the National Recovery
Administration was the Public Work Agency. It was supposed to fix the mistakes from the National
Recovery Administration, but it did not. The Public Work Agency was financed by the

People lost their life's savings, their homes and farms. In his first broadcast on the radio Roosevelt
speech, declared that "This great Nation will endure as it has endured , we will revive and will
prosper the only thing we have to fear is fear itself". Heeding the nation to call for action, and action
now he promise to exercise broad executive power to wage a war against the emergency. The first
step was to save the banks. During his first hundred days as president, FDR ordered all banks to
closed to stop people from withdrawing money from the banks, until congress meeting into special
session. On March 9 congress passed Roosevelt's Emergency Banking Act, in which recognized the
banks and closed the ones there were insolvent. Banks would re open immediately with government
support, and the ones that were insolvent would be handed over to federal conservators who would
guide them to solvency. The President urged Americans to put their savings back to the bank, when
banks re open the next day, deposits exceed withdrawals. Saving the banks and financial markets
meant little if human suffering continue. One work relief program proposed by FDR was the
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). This program consist to employed hundreds of thousands of
young men from relief rolls, and sent them into the woods and fields to plant trees, build parks and
fight soil erosion. During its ten years put more than three million young men with jobs. The need to
alleviate starvation led Roosevelt to proposed a new giveaway program. The Federal Emergency
Relief Administration (FERA) which consist in gave grants to the states to operate relief
programs. The main goal of the program was to alleviate unemployment by creating new unskilled
jobs in local and state government. The Social Security Act, and unemployment insurance were
incorporated in a separate piece of legislation. The Social Security Act sought

How Did It Get This Bad? After World War I Ended?
Since 1929 our country has been ravished by a depression. Millions have been out of work. Millions
have lost their livelihoods. How did it get this bad? After World War I ended America had to
readjust to peace time conditions. The war had boosted the economy as it pumped out weapons and
lent aid to our allies. When it ended America demanded that the loans be repaid. We also enacted
tariffs which caused other countries to not be able to afford our products. This led to even more
crippling debt among those we had called our friends. Unfortunately our prosperity was short lived.
As the gap between the wealthy and middle class widened we began to see the downfall. Production
slowed, workers got laid off, and then the banks failed. On October ... Show more content on

The New Deal helped us out of the depression by setting up relief programs that aided the
unemployed, the hungry, and the impoverished.
Roosevelt started with what hurt us the most: the banks. Roosevelt declared a national bank holiday
to allow for time to devise a plan that would work in the short and long term. He then set up the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to give the people confidence in the new banking
system. The FDIC insured that the government would reimburse a customer should their bank fail.
The next step was for relief to the "forgotten man". Harry Hopkins, a New Dealer, supported the
Federal Emergency Relief Administrations (FERA). FERA gave four to five million households
$20–$30 a month, created jobs, and paid laborers to renovate schools, dig sewers, and fix roads and
building. Another relief program was Civilian Conservation Corps, which offered young men who
were unemployed a chance to work to preserve natural resources. The CCC saw to water erosion,
rivers, and planted millions of trees. They also finished the Hoover Dam. The Works Progress
Administration (WPA) gave millions of jobless citizens a chance to earn wages by working on
government sponsored jobs. The jobs created by the WPA not only helped those without jobs, but
also improved our roads, buildings, and cities as a whole. The New Deal also provided rural
communities with electricity through the Tennessee Valley Authority by building

After the stock market crash, known as Black Tuesday, in 1929, people panicked. As too much
money was withdrawn from banks and they closed, people lost all their money. America, which was
just in the "Roaring Twenties", fell into the Great Depression. Suddenly, people were laid off their
jobs, couldn't buy things they had once not thought twice about, and struggled to afford food for
their families. People lost their homes, and teenagers lived on the streets. Farmers were in debt,
losing their farms, and had to deal with the Dust Bowl. The president at the time, Herbert Hoover,
decided that the country would pull out of the Depression on their own. Since the citizens of
America didn't like that, on Election Day of 1933, Hoover wasn't re–elected. ... Show more content

For example, unemployment was a major issue in America during the Great Depression and one of
the main causes. FDR's New Deal fixed that issue with programs such as the Works Progress
Administration and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, and the Social Security Act.
Citizens that were unemployed or retired received funds to buy products, which caused businesses
to grow and hire more workers. The New Deal also opened more jobs up. The New Deal also
allowed farmers to gain wealth with the Rural Electrification Administration, the Agricultural
Adjustment Act, and the Soil Conservation Act. Farmers could now buy products that they couldn't
afford before and hire more farmhands, which opened up more jobs and helped solve the issue of

The 1930's: The Most Difficult Time Of The Great Depression
The 1930's were one of the most difficult times in American history. It was the time of the Great
Depression. Millions of Americans suffered hardships as the economy was in a free fall. Many
Americans were unemployed and lost almost everything they had owned. In 1932, America realized
it was time for a change, and elected Franklin Delano Roosevelt in a landslide vote. Roosevelt
promised to help end the depression and with his New Deal. The New Deal was Roosevelt's plan to
end the Great Depression. Through increased government spending, FDR enacted numerous public
works programs in an effort to simulate the economy. The New Deal's "alphabet soup" (this was the

The Farm Resettlement Administration help move families that were effected by things like the Dust
Bowl, which destroyed hundreds of acres of farms in the Midwest. The REA helped bring farmers
into the twentieth century by providing farmers with electricity. The FSA was to assist rural poor
and migrant agricultural worker.
The New Deal also attempted to help workers. The workingman was one of the people hardest hit
by the Great Depression. At one point during the one in four Americans, 25% were unemployed.
FDR saw this as a major problem and attempted to correct it with a massive public works programs.
The New Deal set up agencies such as the Federal Emergency Relief Association (FERA) and the
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). FERA was given one billions dollars to help end hardship.
Under FERA, the Civilian Works Association (CWA) and the Civilian Conservation Core (CCC)
helped to ease people's suffering. The CWA hired 4 million people to help do public works projects.
The CCC took city boys into the country to do construction work. Their pay was mailed home to
their families to help ease the financial struggles. The TVA was perhaps the most successful New
Deal project. It built 20 dams and provided cheap power. It also put many people to work.
The most important agency to the workers and FDR's primary vehicle for fighting the depression
was the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA). Under NIRA, FDR set up set up the National

Coming Out of the Great Depression
America has been through many depressions. But it took an amazing president to solve the problem.
Franklin D. Roosevelt has did many things for America. He brought us out of the Great Depression
and his policies has helped us all. The Great Depression began in the United States on October 29,
1929. The day was called, "Black Tuesday". The Great Depression started when the American stock
crashed dramatically. Banks failed, people couldn't get their money back, and companies went out
of business which cause a high unemployment rate. When the Great Depression started, President
Herbert Hoover was in office, and he is mostly blamed for the Great Depression. The Great

economy inflation rates went down due to supply and demand. Franklin D. Roosevelt once said,

Remote or rural regions lacking electricity supply face a lot of challenges for them to get connected
to Electricity. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity grids
(remote villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity (far
from urban centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may suffer
harsh climatic conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task . In
adding to these challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend relatively
large amounts of their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount of time
collecting firewood from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources.
Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the
households, farms and establishments . If rural areas are electrified they may lead to certain changes
or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At both levels,
these changes might involve employment, incomes, productivity and others. In the agricultural
sector, rural electrification might lead to changes in irrigated area enhancing changes in cropping
intensity and cropping pattern, which in turn leads to changes in the use of factors of

Did Franklin D Roosevelt's Farewell To The American Dream
That Saturday, millions turned on their Philcos and Zeniths to hear Roosevelt's answer to calamity.
For months, the 51–year–old New York governor had promised little except a vague "new deal for

in his inaugural address, the new president's voice rang out: "This great nation will endure as it has

we have to fear is fear itself." The crowd stood almost silent in the cold wind. "This nation asks for
action, and action now." For the first time since 1929, the capital heard genuine cheers. "We must

The Great Depression was the deepest and longest lasting economic downturn of the western
industrialized world. The Economy would never get back to full standard until 1939, when World
War II started. Researchers have found 4 causes to the Great Depression. Historians have identified
four interwoven and reinforcing causes of the nation's most severe economic crisis: the overly
speculative and unstable foundations of the American financial sector; structural weaknesses in both
American agriculture and industry; and the frailty of the international economy in the late 1920s and
the early 1930s.By 1930 there were 4 million people unemployed. Thousands of people were out of
jobs in early 1933. In the 1930's there were up to 13,000,000 people unemployed. When Roosevelt
was elected his first law was a bank holiday. Most americans could not buy the products that made

The Global Consumption Of Energy
Introduction The 21st century can be named as the energy century because the global consumption
of energy is ever expanding and our ever increasing consumption of energy has led to serious
environmental problems. For instance Global warming is majorly attributed to our high energy
intake. So, if we continue with this irresponsible pattern of energy consumption, our future will no
longer be sustainable. Hence, managing and optimizing all the available resources has become a
necessity when all the available resources is beginning to drain out rapidly. Laws governing all the
natural resources both renewable and non–renewable resources has a major say in how people make
use of the energy available. Government plays a major role in framing these policies. Therefore, it is
important that the regulating bodies are pro–active and should vision out the future before making
any provisions. Moreover the end users of electricity faces many problems due to power cuts, erratic
voltage, unscheduled or scheduled load shedding etc. This disturbs the normal functioning of
industries, commercial institutions and households etc. This problem could be because the power
generation capacity is inadequate, the generated electricity is not utilised optimally, flaws in
transmission and distribution, theft, inefficient usage by end customers etc. In order to solve all
these menace, concrete laws and efficient management has become undoubtedly important.

Slow economic growth combined with a still high population growth has kept the Philippines' per
capita income lagging behind those of its regional neighbors. The urgency to recover lost ground is,
therefore, clear. Although the economy has improved, the growth forecast for the immediate future
is less reassuring. The challenge is how to stay on course and sustain the momentum in the face of
what appears to be a prolonged slowdown in the world economy and the precarious state of public
finances. To meet this challenge, the Philippine Government has formulated a macroeconomic
program for stability and growth with equity. At the core of this program is a poverty reduction
agenda anchored on redistributing economic opportunities, protecting the vulnerable, and enhancing
the capabilities of the poor to participate in decision–making. The nature, composition and causes of
poverty in the Philippines as well as the responses required to eliminate poverty have been
discussed amongst representatives of Government, civil society, the private sector, and the
international donor community at several forums. The most important among these forums are the
five island–wide multi–sectoral consultation workshops to discuss the draft NAAA in 2000, the

The Good and Bad of Roosevelt's New Deal Essay
The Good and Bad of Roosevelt's New Deal The era of the Great Depression was by far the worst
shape the United States had ever been in, both economically and physically. Franklin Roosevelt was
elected in 1932 and began to bring relief with his New Deal. In his first 100 days as President,
sixteen pieces of legislation were passed by Congress, the most to be passed in a short amount of
time. Roosevelt was re–elected twice, and quickly gained the trust of the American people. Many of
the New Deal policies helped the United States economy greatly, but some did not. One particularly
contradictory act was the Agricultural Adjustment Act, which was later declared unconstitutional by
Congress. Many things also stayed very consistent in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In retrospect, farmers found themselves worse off because the National Recovery Administration
had been very successful in forcing up prices that consumers, including farmers had to pay for
manufactured goods. Unfortunately, massive government intervention in agriculture never went
away. Another one of the New Deal's contradictory reforms was the National Industrial Recovery
Act. The principle was to establish minimum wages and prices and general labor regulations. On
one hand, it sought to keep wage rates high and give the consumer greater purchasing power. On the
other hand, it established hundreds of legally sanctioned industry–wide cartels that were allowed to
establish standard wages, hours of operation and minimum prices on their own terms. The minimum
prices meant that businesses would be prevented from underselling each other. The artificially high
wages also meant that unemployment would continue to rise. High prices for goods were not the
right path to take since the United States economy was in the biggest depression it had ever seen. In
1935, the Supreme Court declared the NRA unconstitutional, on the grounds that the United States
government had no right to regulate intrastate commerce, since it was a power usually granted to
state governments. To replace parts of the NRA, Congress passed the National Labor Relations
Board and

Environmental Concerns Of The Energy Industry
Over the past 70 years, energy use and energy sources alike considerably shifted in the United
States. With these shifts, the environmental concerns associated the energy sources changed as well.
Whether it meant regulating coal use to minimize air pollution or funding alternative fuel source
research, the government has played a significant role in how the energy has been used. In addition,
worried consumers attack the industries by rallying for them to eliminate pollution. This dual sided
advance on the energy industry sometimes leads to slow advancement, such as the case with nuclear
energy. Typically, energy policy has shifted to minimize the effects on the environment. However,
there were situations in which the government actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not long after the clean air act and the environmental impact standards were passed, the Arab
countries placed an embargo on petroleum products to the United States. This was due to the United
States' support of Israel. As a result of this political debacle, the United States actually began
ordering electrical utilities to continue or resume using coal as a source instead of petroleum.
Although only 15% of electricity produced in the US at the time originated from petroleum
products, this was still the use of more than 1 million barrels per day. Eliminating this use of
petroleum would allow the United States more independence from the world oil market. Clearly,
this contradicted the clean air measures put into place in 1967. However, after the embargo was
lifted, the government provided large new amounts of funding for alternative fuel sources. Among
the energy sources they were researching was nuclear energy. Although a very clean source of
energy with regards to carbon emissions, concerns about radiation emissions exist when discussing
nuclear energy. Thoughts of Chernobyl, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki come to mind

Where Were You Doing The Great Depression?
Where were you doing the Great Depression? Were you an entrepreneur, a consumer, a President, or

the catalyst? These are some questions that makes us realize what exactly happening during this
time. As many know, there was a worldwide collapse of the economy during the 1930s. This event,
the Great Depression, was very drastic and left consequences that would impact the world forever.
This crisis happened to different areas of the world at differing times specifically, but generally it
was around the 1930s. During this time, there was no one watching the U.S. economy, so it was
very easy for it to fall apart. People began to have a false sense of prosperity and people were over
dependent on production. Stocks and trade fell, and the economy as we knew was going downhill
and there was no way up. Primary sector jobs involving construction and agriculture suffered the
most, making certain countries go down harder than others. It is generally agreed that the overall
cause of the Great Depression was a surge of overconfidence in buyers, who began to buy things
without double checking and also things they didn't realize they couldn't afford. But, others may put
the blame on the failures of the banks. Around this time, the situation was bleak and hope was
diminishing as fast as the economy was. As indebtedness increased, so did deflation. This happened
because the margin requirements

Franklin Roosevelt promised to get the United States out of the Great Depression during the
election; saying this is the main reason on why he became President on March 4, 1933. He had
many words to live up to, for his words gave many Americans hope. The First & Second New Deal
along with The National Recovery Act were all attempts of Franklin getting America out of the
Great Depression like he said he would in his election days.
To begin, the First New Deal was otherwise called the Hundred Days that went from March 9th –
June 16 of the year 1933. During the days Congress passed a series of laws to provide relief to
victims of the Great Depression. There was little to none opposite to the many law Congress had
passed. One of Franklin's first goal was to end the banking crisis. The banking crisis was a wave of
bank failures that frightened the public on February 1933. Franklin closed the bank and opened it
back up a few days later to normal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Franklin D. Roosevelt came up with his New Deal during his presidential nomination. In his address
to Congress in January 1935, during this Roosevelt called for five major goals. Improved use of
national resources, security against old age, unemployment, illness, and slum clearance. They used
the National Welfare Program to replace state relief efforts. It is usually dated 1935–36, also
includes programs to redistribute wealth, income, and power in favor of the poor, the old, and
farmers and labor unions. The most important programs included Social Security, the National

Renewable Energy: A Pillar of Kenyan Growth and Development

Introduction Although sluggish global growth will moderate growth forecasts, Sub–Sahara Africa
(SSA) stands out with year over year increases in GDP growth reaching 4.7% in 2013. One country
that is leading the way as East–Africa 's largest economy and SSA 's ninth largest economy is
Kenya, which has seen economic growth at 5.7% in 2013 a full percentage point above the SSA
average. Kenya 's economic targets for growth are as high as 10% under what is called Kenya 's

Additionally, difficulty is likely to be encountered in achieving developmental goals as Kenya has
for a long time fallen victim to plundering of national assets whose development and broad
distribution are essential for economic growth and prosperity. In this way, the newly discovered
natural resources could threaten the success of Kenya 's developmental goals. Nevertheless,
renewable energy will play a significant role as the driver of Kenyan economic growth and
improvements to the standard of living and furnish Kenya with the large scale supplies of electricity
needed of Vision 2030 's flagship projects.
Discussion
Kenya plans to make renewable energy its largest source of total installed electrical power capacity
by 2020, driven largely by geothermal energy found in Kenya 's Rift Valley. Estimates by Kenya 's
Energy Ministry indicate that Kenya 's Rift Valley in Hell 's Gate National Park contains as much as
10,000MW in total energy capacity alone, nearly seven times Kenya 's current total energy
consumption. To demonstrate Kenya 's commitment to its Vision 2030 energy goals, Geothermic
Development Corporation (GDC) began production in April 2014 of the world 's largest geothermal
energy production facility (810MW) at Menengai, in the central Rift Valley. Once complete, this
single project will increase Kenya 's total electrical generation capacity by 50% and decrease Kenya

President Roosevelt 's New Deal
When President Roosevelt took office, the odds were stacked against him almost immediately. This
was due to Roosevelt having to take on the task of getting America out of the Depression that It
plunged into during the Herbert Hoover administration. The Great Depression happened through a
myriad of events that ranged from bank failures to the stock market crashing multiple times in a
short amount of time. The nation 's economy was in turmoil and unemployment and poverty were at
an all–time high and something had to be done to stop this economic free–fall. FDR and his political
cabinet called the "Brain Trust" decided to take the Great Depression head on with a policy that
included many reforms and an aggressive approach to unemployment. This policy would be known
as the New Deal. The New Deals main goal was to help to end the Great Depression, FDR figured
that the best way to do this would be to have the government be more hands on in the fight against
the Great Depression.
The approach of the New Deal was based on the government being more active and hands on, this
lead to some individuals and factions to oppose his New Deal for various reasons . The opposition
was mostly based on the reforms that were taking place on an economic level. Some groups viewed
this as a way for the government to invade on the practice that allowed certain individuals to corner
the market. These factions wanted the laws to go unchanged like they were during the Hoover
administration (which was

Great Depression DBQ As "prosperity 's decade" came to a symbolically harsh and sudden end on
Thursday, October 24, 1929, the United States government, led by President Herbert Hoover, was
thrown into the unknown. No such downturn had ever presented itself before, which compounded
itself with the lack of economic understanding present at the time. Yet it had seemed that the
economy was healthy before the crash. Employment was high and inflation was low. Yet these
conditions only served as a mirage for many Americans. As industrialists became wealthy using new
age technology and selfish business methods, 70 million people lived below the poverty line. Many

Unemployment would skyrocket, coinciding with a massive decrease in industrial production. The
country was in shambles, unable to find a way out of its economic woes. The newly elected Franklin
D. Roosevelt saw his contemporary Hoover fail to stop the recession with his conservative policies.
Believing in "voluntary organization and community service," Hoover feared that federal relief
programs would create a culture of dependency. What he did not recognize was that the vast size of
the nation 's problems had made the idea of "rugged individualism" inadequate. Roosevelt did not
want to repeat the mistakes of the former president, instead believing that he alone must expand
executive power while carrying out a policy of experimentation. He would directly lend a hand to
the forgotten man, implementing bold and controversial acts in order to spur the economy.
Roosevelt, although not quelling the Depression completely, effectively expanded the role of
government in order to address his nation's struggles and provide relief, recovery, and reform for the
millions affected by the downturn.
One such example of his efforts to relieve the burdens of the Depressions in rural America was the
creation of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Even before this program, The New Deal attacked
problems facing those affected by failing industry head on. Rural electrification programs were
created, changing life in the country forever, as for the

Electricity Policy Reform and Responsible Government in...
With many different religious, ethnic, and social groups, the Republic of India is a unique and
diverse state. Since gaining independence, India has faced a challenge of encouraging the variegated
people within its borders to embrace and celebrate a common Indian identity even while nurturing
their distinct cultures and traditions. This diversity is reflected throughout social and political
challenges in Indian society. Although the different federal states are given a certain amount of
leeway to accommodate for the population's heterogeneity, the central government maintain a great
amount of power for purpose of holding the nation together. As India has developed, one of its

In general, however, the Indian government still maintains a great amount of control over the
electricity sector. Its centralized control over the sector remains largely intact and is directly
accountable by the government to the people, thus indicative of a responsible government. With an
annual population growth of 1.3 percent (United Nations 2013), India's energy needs are growing,
especially in regards to electricity. Because new energy gains require multiples of power use, for the
Indian economy to expand, electricity production has to rise more rapidly than total output. Thus far,
areas of India remain in the dark: the "rise of 122 percent in [electric] generation [has been]
insufficient for continued expansion" (DeVotta, 138). Still, the electricity sector has grown
substantially since independence. Installed capacity in 1950 was 1,713 megawatts; by 2002 it had
grown to 104,918 megawatts (Kale 2004). However, per capita annual electricity consumption,
which increased from approximately 13 kilowatt–hours in 1951 to 365 kilowatt–hours in 2001,
remains low. At the federal level, India's government has initiated a major policy initiative to make
electricity generation and supply commercially viable. As part of the 2001 Energy Conservation Act,
the government outlined an ambitious plan for achieving 100 percent village–level electrification by
the end of 2007 and total household

ORIGIN AND GROWTH OF ELECTRICITY
The history of electricity can be traced back to the eighteenth century. The first instance of sensing
the phenomenon of electricity was the accidental observation of what was later found out to be neon
glow by Framas Bauksbw in 1709 at the Royal Society in London. Luigi Galvani observed moving
of the legs of a dead frog when touched with a metal scalpel. This also was later found to have
happened due to production of electricity by chemical process. Almost at the same time, Alessandro
Volta made the first form of battery. Thus a new phenomenon, the Electric current, was produced
which paved the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The emergence of more Power Stations and Transmission lines throughout the country didn't take
much time. Till 1948, Electricity generation, transmission and distribution were governed by
Electricity Act 1910. The Government used to give licences for generation, transmission and
distribution of power. But this type of approach was not conducive to a balanced and sufficient
growth in this key sector. There was absence of co–ordination and a meaningful orientation for fast
development of the power sector. The importance of electricity industry was duly recognized by that
time and an active role in the field was taken by the government.
State Electricity Boards
When India got independence, the installed capacity of the country was a meagre 1940 MW. The
enacting of the Electricity Supply Act 1948 paved the way for establishing the State Electricity
Boards. It was a major keystone in the history of Electricity in India, which brought this prime
industry under the public sector. There were major steps in the legal framework for the power sector.
The whole picture of enactments in the sector will be dealt with in detail, later in this chapter.
The State Electricity Boards presented a commendable picture in the growing independent India.

it's kinda hard to do that when we ain't got no electricity out here," his brother Noah replied solemly.
"The worst part is that we were actually winnin' for once Jimmy!" The boys went home dissapointed
that night after coming so close to their first win this year. "Momma we're home!" The boys shouted
together as they walked through the front door. They made their way to the kitchen where they knew
dinner would be waiting for them. Jimmy and Noah sat down at the table and instantly started
shoving food in their mouths, practically inhaling it. "How was your day boys?" Their mother asked
with enthusiasm all over her face. She genuinely loved hearing about their games. "Well momma we

the stupid thing. It's just impossible to see anything out there when it starts gettin' dark, ya know?"

incidence of poverty in both rural and urban. In the process, the rural areas have been developed
with infrastructures, utility, social amenities, health and school facilities and etc to support the
economic development of the country as well as increasing the quality of life of her populace. The
productivity and incomes of the rural people, or more specifically the agriculture sector, the
mainstay of the rural economy, have steadily increased. Rural development continues to be one of

The New Deal
In the 1930s America was experiencing what was the Great Depression, "the worst economic
disaster in American History" (Foner, 158). The economy had hit an all–time low and
unemployment was at its peak. After elected, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's created the
"New Deal", and it was the greatest reform movement of its time. The "New Deal" provided a
daring reform policy without starting a war or revolution. Even though many criticized President
Roosevelt for his "try anything" method and believed he was recklessly spending, he rescued the
American economy of free enterprise by stepping in and actually doing something that helped the
economy. When Hoover was president, the gap between the rich and the poor was so dramatic, the
country probably would have had another revolution and blood would be shed. When President
Roosevelt was elected, he instated a series of reforms to help with the countless problems in
America. Though many of the programs failed, some achieved lasting success and still exist today.
The New Deal provided lasting reforms like the Social Security Act and the Fair Labor Standards
Act, and established exemplary standards that continue to go on and create better lives for millions
of Americans to this day. In Franklin D. Roosevelt 's efforts to get America out of the great
depression, he created the New Deal, and improved it with the second New Deal, and these brought

What Are The Long Term Causes Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a time in the U.S where the economy had dropped and the majority of the
population struggled with poverty. One of the long term causes of the Great Depression was that
there was no program to help aid the people because President Hoover believed in rugged
individualism, another long term reason of the depression was that the people had placed money on
the banks and the banks would share it for the stock market and usually didn't give it back. Hoover
was elected in 1928, he believed in rugged individualism, natural cycles, and voluntary action which
prolonged the depression because there was nothing to back up the people. FDR was elected in 1932

For instance, FDR had prior knowledge that major communities in the nation had a huge a distrust
of the government, the president wanted to achieve that reliance again so that there would be a

make things better illustrates to us and the people of the time that he wanted to gain that trust and
faith that everyone had lost because of the prior leader and the depression. Furthermore, President
Roosevelt had made a speech covering everything that he was willing to do for his country and the
faith of the people. This shows that he wanted to approach everything to make the past a learnable
experience and to move on from the tragic downfall the U.S had. Thirdly, He wasn't afraid to loose a
lot from the the New Deal programs because he wanted to support the country in need. The
President had established an act called the social security act and it was a step forward to the the

How Did The New Deal Help America
he new deal of the 1930s was seen as the radical action needed during the depression to help

first 100 days including the alphabet agencies and the beer act. These acts and agencies were
designed to help certain groups of people but this meant that some were left out. This meant that
Roosevelt was forced into producing the second new deal which helped Americans in the late 1930s.

Tornado Descriptive Essay
It was a hot day here in Jackson. It felt like summer, but it was fall. Usually when it is this type of
climate something is going to happen, for example a tornado. I was outside with my dog, while the
rest of the family was inside watching television. I hear the house door open, and my mother comes
out. "Wow, it feels warm out here," said my mother as she was looking at the clouds. "I believed it
was going to be a little cold and I came out here with a jacket on." My mother started walking
towards the yard and she said, "The clouds are dark grey instead of white, I wonder what's going to
happen."
"I have no idea, but that's the same thing I had in mind when I came outside," I responded. We hear
the tornado sirens burst. I asked my mother, "Is today Wednesday"?
My mother started looking around her. She said, "No, I believe today is Friday."
The house door opens again, and this time it's my sister. She yells out: "Come inside!"
My mother and I look at each other, while my dog was already running to the house door trying to
get in. We open the door, and get in. Once we are in, I lock the door. The television was on and set
on the news. Everyone had their eyes on the screen. A few minutes later, the doorbell rings. I walk
to the door and see who it is, and it was my aunt. It was a surprise that she had come to see us, but I
figured she wanted to be in a safe and stable place during this time.
Once everyone was in the house I start to close the door slowly, and I see my uncle getting out of his
car with his family. I stand in front of the door, waiting for them to come in. Finally, they come in
and I shut the door and lock it. All you hear in the house are kids playing, adults talking, and my
mother was in the kitchen cooking something up for us to eat.
"Tornado warning for the following counties," said the meteorologist. Out of nowhere the rain starts
pouring down with acceleration.
"What are we going to do if the lights go out," asked my cousin. "We won't be able to eat the
delicious food that my aunt just made for us." Everyone starts to laugh.

Great Depression Of The 1930s Essay
(ESSAY)
What factors brought about the Great Depression of the 1930s? Give examples of the differences
between the relief policies of F.D.R. and Hoover. Describe the opponents of F.D.R.'s relief policies,
and how he did more to expand executive power than any other President in American history. Also
take the time to explain other significant events and issues that took place in the U.S. during this
time which made the depression seem even bleaker.
GREAT DEPRESSION
Some factors that brought about the Great Depression of the 1930s were the stock market crashing
on what is known as "Black Tuesday", banks closing, companies failing, and employment. The
stock market crashed in October 1929. The market crash led to banks closing because of the fact of
people taking all their money from their bank accounts. Companies began to fail because of these
other factors and majority of people were unemployed. America came into a standstill in the Great
Depression.
President Herbert Hoover, at this time believed immensely in the idea that American citizens should
be left to deal with their financial issues and that the government should not get involved. President
Hoover seemed to have the right mindset but the wrong way of going about it and sunk the nation
into a deeper hole by enforcing the Revenue Act of 1932 as well as the Reconstruction finance
corporation, and a tariff.

The Energy Development Of Greening Energy Sector
Greening energy sector in India has started through the implementation of various policies and acts
in energy sector. The electricity Act which was enforced in 2003 for the generation of renewable
energy, providing sufficient support and facilitating its purchase was the first formal process in
promoting clean energy (solar energy in India). Other energy policies and acts like National Tariff
policy 2006, National rural electrification policies 2006 and semiconductor policy 2007 have
provided ground for the establishment of standalone off grid renewable energy and also subsidised
manufacturing of solar panels (solar energy in India).
The installed capacity of solar power plant which was 161 MW in 2010 increased up to 4097 MW
till July 2015 (Phillips, 2014).During the year 2014–2015, there has been 42 % increase in the solar
power installed capacity adding up 1112 MW in the renewable energy pool (Power brochure India).
Recently on August 2015, India has turned The Cochin International Airport into entirely solar
powered airport producing 48 KWh of energy which is assumed to save 300,000 tons of Equivalent
carbon in the next 25 years (Greenberg, 2015). This has been considered as a great achievement in

do not have access to electricity. Most of the non–electrified regions are found in developing
countries like ours. These regions can be electrified either by extending the grids of the existing
power systems or by constructing isolated new power systems, which are alternative energy sources.
In general, it is preferred to go for the extension of the existing grids but they are not always
affordable the fact that most of the non–electrified regions in developing countries are located in
remote and difficult areas, like hilly regions, forests, deserts and islands or even too far from the
grid location, which demand huge investment for grid extension (leake E. Weldmariam 2010, p.1).
The grid extension costs are primarily distance dependent and thus the investment cost increases
whenever the site, which is to be electrified from the main grid system, is further away. However,
the investment cost of PV Hybrid systems are mainly dependent on the generation capacity of the
source which in turn is related to the demand by the customers. Thus, for a small demand, a small
investment is needed and for a large demand, a larger investment is needed.
Therefore, decentralized and sustainable renewable energy systems have been promoted for
electrification of remote areas where grid extension is not

Walter Moss An Age Of Progress Analysis
Today, most people take electricity for granted, especially in the United States and other developed
countries of the world. According to Walter Moss in his book, An Age of Progress?, Clashing
Twentieth–Century Global Forces, during the twentieth century, perhaps no other technological
advancement, even the automobile, affected the people of the world more than electricity. Electricity
would become the foundation for the development of new technological advancements in industries
such as agriculture, health and science, environment, and technology. Production and consumption
in all these industries would continue to rise throughout the century with reliance on electricity to
flourish.
The widespread use of electricity started towards the end of the nineteenth century. At first
electricity, both in the United States and abroad, was used primarily for lighting streets, operating
public transit, and by stores, restaurants, and other commercial and industrial enterprises. The use of
oil and candles were still the typical way many people lit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The development of high yield crops have saved huge areas of forests and other environmentally
fragile lands that would otherwise have been needed for farming. For example, in Asia cereal
production doubled between 1970 and 1975, yet the total land area cultivated with cereals increased
by only 4 percent. The passing of laws like the Clean Water Act of 1972 that took steps to insure the
increased use of fertilizers and pesticides would not end up in the waterways that so many people
rely on for consumption and in the agriculture world of farming. The development of pest–resistant
varieties has also helped in keeping pesticides and herbicides out of our waters. All of these
advancements and legislation have championed a sustainable way to continue growth in economics

Advertising The New Deal Case Study

  • 1. Advertising The New Deal Case Study Advertising the New Deal The Great Depression brought on a lot of hardships for the American people. President Hoover believed that it was best to not get involved and everything would work itself out. This angered the American people, and, in 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected into office to "fix" the problem. With this great task, he wanted to keep the public informed and began to have "fireside chats" in which he would explain the problem at hand and possible solutions to the problem that became known as the New Deal. The New Deal involved reforms for banking, business, creating jobs, famers, homeowners, and the stock market. Roosevelt is that he motivated and helped the United States during the "Great Depression" and was a great president, however, as time has passed, economist historians have begun analyzing Roosevelt's presidency. Many have concluded that he did not help America during the Great Depression but instead amplified and prolonged the depression. Jim Powell wrote about FDR economic policies and did an excellent job explaining Roosevelt's incompetent initiatives. Many of his advisors were graduates from top universities in the United States, such as Harvard, Yale, University of Chicago, and Columbia. All of his advisors were successful in their careers as business people or lawyers, leaving one to wonder why they could not solve the problems of the Great Depression. The National Recovery Administration was created by Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of the New Deal policies. The National Recovery Administration increased the prices of manufactured goods. It hurt the farmers that needed to buy tools and equipment. As they did not have the money to buy the taxed equipment, they could not do their job. It was a detriment both the consumers and the companies. "New Deal spending was supposed to stimulate the economy, but New Deal taxing depressed the economy." The National Recovery Administration was a monopoly controlled by big business. The United States Supreme Court killed the NRA because it was un–constitutional, but it was replaced by other agencies "The U.S. Supreme court struck down the NRA and a number of other early New Deal measures for violating the Constitution." During his first hundred days as president, FDR ordered all banks to closed to stop people from withdrawing money from the banks, until congress meeting into special session. On March 9 congress passed Roosevelt's Emergency Banking Act, in which recognized the banks and closed the ones there were insolvent. Banks would re open immediately with government support, and the ones that were insolvent would be handed over to federal conservators who would guide them to solvency. How did it get this bad? After World War I ended America had to readjust to peace time conditions. The war had boosted the economy as it pumped out weapons and lent aid to our allies. When it ended America demanded that the loans be repaid. We also enacted tariffs which caused other countries to not be able to afford our products. This led to even more crippling debt among those we had called our friends. Unfortunately our prosperity was short lived. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The New Deal helped us out of the depression by setting up relief programs that aided the unemployed, the hungry, and the impoverished. Roosevelt started with what hurt us the most: the banks. Roosevelt declared a national bank holiday to allow for time to devise a plan that would work in the short and long term. He then set up the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) to give the people confidence in the new banking system. The FDIC insured that the government would reimburse a customer should their bank fail. The next step was for relief to the "forgotten man". Harry Hopkins, a New Dealer, supported the Federal Emergency Relief Administrations (FERA). FERA gave four to five million households $20–$30 a month, created jobs, and paid laborers to renovate schools, dig sewers, and fix roads and building. Another relief program was Civilian Conservation Corps, which offered young men who were unemployed a chance to work to preserve natural resources. The CCC saw to water erosion, rivers, and planted millions of trees. They also finished the Hoover Dam. The Works Progress Administration (WPA) gave millions of jobless citizens a chance to earn wages by working on government sponsored jobs. They may lie at a reasonable distance from national or regional electricity grids (remote villages in the Amazon) and may have difficulties in getting connected to Electricity (far from urban centers with a difficult terrain such as large rivers or jungles). Naturally they may suffer harsh climatic conditions that render electrification through grid extension a perilous task . In adding to these challenges, the rural poor areas without access to electricity either spend relatively large amounts of their scarce financial resources on energy, or a disproportionate amount of time collecting firewood from the jungle or also lead to depletion of natural resources. Rural electrification can have a positive impact on social and economic development in the households, farms and establishments . If rural areas are electrified they may lead to certain changes or social/economic development at the village level as well as at the household level. At both levels, these changes might involve employment, incomes, productivity and others. In the agricultural sector, rural electrification might lead to changes in irrigated area enhancing changes in cropping intensity and cropping pattern, which in turn leads to changes in the use of factors of ... Now, in his inaugural address, the new president's voice rang out: "This great nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." The crowd stood almost silent in the cold wind. "This nation asks for action, and action now." The Economy would never get back to full standard until 1939, when World War II started. Researchers have found 4 causes to the Great Depression. Historians have identified four interwoven and reinforcing causes of the nation's most severe economic crisis: the overly speculative and unstable foundations of the American financial sector; structural weaknesses in both American agriculture and industry; and the frailty of the international economy in the late 1920s and the early 1930s.By 1930 there were 4 million people unemployed. • 12. The Global Consumption Of Energy Introduction The 21st century can be named as the energy century because the global consumption of energy is ever expanding and our ever increasing consumption of energy has led to serious environmental problems. For instance Global warming is majorly attributed to our high energy intake. So, if we continue with this irresponsible pattern of energy consumption, our future will no longer be sustainable. Hence, managing and optimizing all the available resources has become a necessity when all the available resources is beginning to drain out rapidly. Laws governing all the natural resources both renewable and non–renewable resources has a major say in how people make use of the energy available. Government plays a major role in framing these policies. Therefore, it is important that the regulating bodies are pro–active and should vision out the future before making any provisions. Moreover the end users of electricity faces many problems due to power cuts, erratic voltage, unscheduled or scheduled load shedding etc. This disturbs the normal functioning of industries, commercial institutions and households etc. This problem could be because the power generation capacity is inadequate, the generated electricity is not utilised optimally, flaws in transmission and distribution, theft, inefficient usage by end customers etc. In order to solve all these menace, concrete laws and efficient management has become undoubtedly important. Slow economic growth combined with a still high population growth has kept the Philippines' per capita income lagging behind those of its regional neighbors. The urgency to recover lost ground is, therefore, clear. Although the economy has improved, the growth forecast for the immediate future is less reassuring. The challenge is how to stay on course and sustain the momentum in the face of what appears to be a prolonged slowdown in the world economy and the precarious state of public finances. To meet this challenge, the Philippine Government has formulated a macroeconomic program for stability and growth with equity. At the core of this program is a poverty reduction agenda anchored on redistributing economic opportunities, protecting the vulnerable, and enhancing the capabilities of the poor to participate in decision–making. The nature, composition and causes of poverty in the Philippines as well as the responses required to eliminate poverty have been discussed amongst representatives of Government, civil society, the private sector, and the international donor community at several forums. In his first 100 days as President, sixteen pieces of legislation were passed by Congress, the most to be passed in a short amount of time. In retrospect, farmers found themselves worse off because the National Recovery Administration had been very successful in forcing up prices that consumers, including farmers had to pay for manufactured goods. Unfortunately, massive government intervention in agriculture never went away. Another one of the New Deal's contradictory reforms was the National Industrial Recovery Act. The principle was to establish minimum wages and prices and general labor regulations. On one hand, it sought to keep wage rates high and give the consumer greater purchasing power. On the other hand, it established hundreds of legally sanctioned industry–wide cartels that were allowed to establish standard wages, hours of operation and minimum prices on their own terms. The minimum prices meant that businesses would be prevented from underselling each other. The artificially high wages also meant that unemployment would continue to rise. High prices for goods were not the right path to take since the United States economy was in the biggest depression it had ever seen. In addition, worried consumers attack the industries by rallying for them to eliminate pollution. Although only 15% of electricity produced in the US at the time originated from petroleum products, this was still the use of more than 1 million barrels per day. Eliminating this use of petroleum would allow the United States more independence from the world oil market. Clearly, this contradicted the clean air measures put into place in 1967. However, after the embargo was lifted, the government provided large new amounts of funding for alternative fuel sources. Among the energy sources they were researching was nuclear energy. Did you protest against what was happening, or were you a part of the catalyst? These are some questions that makes us realize what exactly happening during this time. As many know, there was a worldwide collapse of the economy during the 1930s. This event, the Great Depression, was very drastic and left consequences that would impact the world forever. This crisis happened to different areas of the world at differing times specifically, but generally it was around the 1930s. During this time, there was no one watching the U.S. economy, so it was very easy for it to fall apart. People began to have a false sense of prosperity and people were over dependent on production. Stocks and trade fell, and the economy as we knew was going downhill and there was no way up. Primary sector jobs involving construction and agriculture suffered the most, making certain countries go down harder than others. It is generally agreed that the overall cause of the Great Depression was a surge of overconfidence in buyers, who began to buy things without double checking and also things they didn't realize they couldn't afford. But, others may put the blame on the failures of the banks. Around this time, the situation was bleak and hope was diminishing as fast as the economy was. As indebtedness increased, so did deflation. • 24. President Roosevelt 's New Deal When President Roosevelt took office, the odds were stacked against him almost immediately. This was due to Roosevelt having to take on the task of getting America out of the Depression that It plunged into during the Herbert Hoover administration. The Great Depression happened through a myriad of events that ranged from bank failures to the stock market crashing multiple times in a short amount of time. The nation 's economy was in turmoil and unemployment and poverty were at an all–time high and something had to be done to stop this economic free–fall. FDR and his political cabinet called the "Brain Trust" decided to take the Great Depression head on with a policy that included many reforms and an aggressive approach to unemployment. This policy would be known as the New Deal. The New Deals main goal was to help to end the Great Depression, FDR figured that the best way to do this would be to have the government be more hands on in the fight against the Great Depression. The approach of the New Deal was based on the government being more active and hands on, this lead to some individuals and factions to oppose his New Deal for various reasons . The opposition was mostly based on the reforms that were taking place on an economic level. Yet it had seemed that the economy was healthy before the crash. Employment was high and inflation was low. Yet these conditions only served as a mirage for many Americans. The country was in shambles, unable to find a way out of its economic woes. The newly elected Franklin D. Roosevelt saw his contemporary Hoover fail to stop the recession with his conservative policies. Believing in "voluntary organization and community service," Hoover feared that federal relief programs would create a culture of dependency. What he did not recognize was that the vast size of the nation 's problems had made the idea of "rugged individualism" inadequate. Roosevelt did not want to repeat the mistakes of the former president, instead believing that he alone must expand executive power while carrying out a policy of experimentation. He would directly lend a hand to the forgotten man, implementing bold and controversial acts in order to spur the economy. Roosevelt, although not quelling the Depression completely, effectively expanded the role of government in order to address his nation's struggles and provide relief, recovery, and reform for the millions affected by the downturn. One such example of his efforts to relieve the burdens of the Depressions in rural America was the creation of the Tennessee Valley Authority. With an annual population growth of 1.3 percent (United Nations 2013), India's energy needs are growing, especially in regards to electricity. Because new energy gains require multiples of power use, for the Indian economy to expand, electricity production has to rise more rapidly than total output. Thus far, areas of India remain in the dark: the "rise of 122 percent in [electric] generation [has been] insufficient for continued expansion" (DeVotta, 138). Still, the electricity sector has grown substantially since independence. Installed capacity in 1950 was 1,713 megawatts; by 2002 it had grown to 104,918 megawatts (Kale 2004). However, per capita annual electricity consumption, which increased from approximately 13 kilowatt–hours in 1951 to 365 kilowatt–hours in 2001, remains low. History of Electricity in Kerala HISTORY OF ELECTRICITY IN KERALA – Dr D Shina S N COLLEGE, Kollam, Kerala, India email – achushina@gmail.com ORIGIN AND GROWTH OF ELECTRICITY The history of electricity can be traced back to the eighteenth century. The first instance of sensing the phenomenon of electricity was the accidental observation of what was later found out to be neon glow by Framas Bauksbw in 1709 at the Royal Society in London. Luigi Galvani observed moving of the legs of a dead frog when touched with a metal scalpel. This also was later found to have happened due to production of electricity by chemical process. Almost at the same time, Alessandro Volta made the first form of battery. Thus a new phenomenon, the Electric current, was produced which paved the ... Till 1948, Electricity generation, transmission and distribution were governed by Electricity Act 1910. The Government used to give licences for generation, transmission and distribution of power. But this type of approach was not conducive to a balanced and sufficient growth in this key sector. There was absence of co–ordination and a meaningful orientation for fast development of the power sector. The importance of electricity industry was duly recognized by that time and an active role in the field was taken by the government. State Electricity Boards When India got independence, the installed capacity of the country was a meagre 1940 MW. The enacting of the Electricity Supply Act 1948 paved the way for establishing the State Electricity Boards. It was a major keystone in the history of Electricity in India, which brought this prime industry under the public sector. There were major steps in the legal framework for the power sector. The whole picture of enactments in the sector will be dealt with in detail, later in this chapter. The State Electricity Boards presented a commendable picture in the growing independent India. Till now, the State Electricity Boards ran the show,

They were playing a doubleheader that afternoon, and it was bottom of the ninth inning when they had to stop the game. "If we had some big fancy lights like them city boys we wouldn't have'ta quit playin' whenever it gets dark out," complained Jimmy as he kicked up some dirt off the field. "Yeah, well it's kinda hard to do that when we ain't got no electricity out here," his brother Noah replied solemly. "The worst part is that we were actually winnin' for once Jimmy!" The boys went home dissapointed that night after coming so close to their first win this year. "Momma we're home!" The boys shouted together as they walked through the front door. They made their way to the kitchen where they knew dinner would be waiting for them. Jimmy and Noah sat down at the table and instantly started shoving food in their mouths, practically inhaling it. "How was your day boys?" Their mother asked with enthusiasm all over her face. She genuinely loved hearing about their games. "Well momma we lost our first game pretty bad, but I really think we woulda won the next one if we could've finished the stupid thing. It's just impossible to see anything out there when it starts gettin' dark, ya know?" Jimmy was talking with food in his mouth, but she could understand enough to figure out what he was saying. • 33. The New Deal : The Great Depression Alexis Brucell History 17B Professor Dan Defoe 2 April 2016 The New Deal In the 1930s America was experiencing what was the Great Depression, "the worst economic disaster in American History" (Foner, 158). The economy had hit an all–time low and unemployment was at its peak. After elected, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's created the "New Deal", and it was the greatest reform movement of its time. The "New Deal" provided a daring reform policy without starting a war or revolution. Even though many criticized President Roosevelt for his "try anything" method and believed he was recklessly spending, he rescued the American economy of free enterprise by stepping in and actually doing something that helped the economy. When Hoover was president, the gap between the rich and the poor was so dramatic, the country probably would have had another revolution and blood would be shed. When President Roosevelt was elected, he instated a series of reforms to help with the countless problems in America. Though many of the programs failed, some achieved lasting success and still exist today. The New Deal provided lasting reforms like the Social Security Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act, and established exemplary standards that continue to go on and create better lives for millions of Americans to this day. In Franklin D. Roosevelt 's efforts to get America out of the great depression, he created the New Deal, and improved it with the second New Deal, and these brought a ... • 34. What Are The Long Term Causes Of The Great Depression The Great Depression was a time in the U.S where the economy had dropped and the majority of the population struggled with poverty. One of the long term causes of the Great Depression was that there was no program to help aid the people because President Hoover believed in rugged individualism, another long term reason of the depression was that the people had placed money on the banks and the banks would share it for the stock market and usually didn't give it back. Hoover was elected in 1928, he believed in rugged individualism, natural cycles, and voluntary action which prolonged the depression because there was nothing to back up the people. Furthermore, President Roosevelt had made a speech covering everything that he was willing to do for his country and the faith of the people. This shows that he wanted to approach everything to make the past a learnable experience and to move on from the tragic downfall the U.S had. Thirdly, He wasn't afraid to loose a lot from the the New Deal programs because he wanted to support the country in need. The President had established an act called the social security act and it was a step forward to the the acts that he had assigned before and after. • 35. How Did The New Deal Help America he new deal of the 1930s was seen as the radical action needed during the depression to help American people and the American economy. However, some people criticised it for not being radical enough as it didn't help all Americans. Roosevelt started off by introducing 15 acts in his first 100 days including the alphabet agencies and the beer act. These acts and agencies were designed to help certain groups of people but this meant that some were left out. This meant that Roosevelt was forced into producing the second new deal which helped Americans in the late 1930s. The first couple of acts were very important, first there was the emergency banking act which closed all banks for several days in which time they were inspected and only those ... • 36. Tornado Descriptive Essay It was a hot day here in Jackson. It felt like summer, but it was fall. Usually when it is this type of climate something is going to happen, for example a tornado. I was outside with my dog, while the rest of the family was inside watching television. I hear the house door open, and my mother comes out. "Wow, it feels warm out here," said my mother as she was looking at the clouds. "I believed it was going to be a little cold and I came out here with a jacket on." My mother started walking towards the yard and she said, "The clouds are dark grey instead of white, I wonder what's going to happen." "I have no idea, but that's the same thing I had in mind when I came outside," I responded. We hear the tornado sirens burst. I asked my mother, "Is today Wednesday"? My mother started looking around her. She said, "No, I believe today is Friday." The house door opens again, and this time it's my sister. She yells out: "Come inside!" My mother and I look at each other, while my dog was already running to the house door trying to get in. We open the door, and get in. Once we are in, I lock the door. The television was on and set on the news. Everyone had their eyes on the screen. A few minutes later, the doorbell rings. I walk to the door and see who it is, and it was my aunt. It was a surprise that she had come to see us, but I figured she wanted to be in a safe and stable place during this time. Once everyone was in the house I start to close the door slowly, and I see my uncle getting out of his car with his family. I stand in front of the door, waiting for them to come in. Finally, they come in and I shut the door and lock it. All you hear in the house are kids playing, adults talking, and my mother was in the kitchen cooking something up for us to eat. "Tornado warning for the following counties," said the meteorologist. Out of nowhere the rain starts pouring down with acceleration. "What are we going to do if the lights go out," asked my cousin. "We won't be able to eat the delicious food that my aunt just made for us." Everyone starts to laugh. "We won't be able to charge our cell phones or anything," I said. • 37. Great Depression Of The 1930s Essay (ESSAY) What factors brought about the Great Depression of the 1930s? Give examples of the differences between the relief policies of F.D.R. and Hoover. Describe the opponents of F.D.R.'s relief policies, and how he did more to expand executive power than any other President in American history. Also take the time to explain other significant events and issues that took place in the U.S. during this time which made the depression seem even bleaker. GREAT DEPRESSION Some factors that brought about the Great Depression of the 1930s were the stock market crashing on what is known as "Black Tuesday", banks closing, companies failing, and employment. The stock market crashed in October 1929. The market crash led to banks closing because of the fact of people taking all their money from their bank accounts. Companies began to fail because of these other factors and majority of people were unemployed. America came into a standstill in the Great Depression. President Herbert Hoover, at this time believed immensely in the idea that American citizens should be left to deal with their financial issues and that the government should not get involved. President Hoover seemed to have the right mindset but the wrong way of going about it and sunk the nation into a deeper hole by enforcing the Revenue Act of 1932 as well as the Reconstruction finance corporation, and a tariff. • 39. The Energy Development Of Greening Energy Sector Greening energy sector in India has started through the implementation of various policies and acts in energy sector. The electricity Act which was enforced in 2003 for the generation of renewable energy, providing sufficient support and facilitating its purchase was the first formal process in promoting clean energy (solar energy in India). Other energy policies and acts like National Tariff policy 2006, National rural electrification policies 2006 and semiconductor policy 2007 have provided ground for the establishment of standalone off grid renewable energy and also subsidised manufacturing of solar panels (solar energy in India). The installed capacity of solar power plant which was 161 MW in 2010 increased up to 4097 MW till July 2015 (Phillips, 2014).During the year 2014–2015, there has been 42 % increase in the solar power installed capacity adding up 1112 MW in the renewable energy pool (Power brochure India). Recently on August 2015, India has turned The Cochin International Airport into entirely solar powered airport producing 48 KWh of energy which is assumed to save 300,000 tons of Equivalent carbon in the next 25 years (Greenberg, 2015). This has been considered as a great achievement in clean energy development in India and around world. Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Rajasthan, are the leading states in solar energy production in India. • 40. Energy System Advantages And Disadvantages INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY According to statistics made in recent years, it is found that almost 33% of the world's populations do not have access to electricity. Most of the non–electrified regions are found in developing countries like ours. These regions can be electrified either by extending the grids of the existing power systems or by constructing isolated new power systems, which are alternative energy sources. In general, it is preferred to go for the extension of the existing grids but they are not always affordable the fact that most of the non–electrified regions in developing countries are located in remote and difficult areas, like hilly regions, forests, deserts and islands or even too far from the grid location, which demand huge investment for grid extension (leake E. Weldmariam 2010, p.1). The grid extension costs are primarily distance dependent and thus the investment cost increases whenever the site, which is to be electrified from the main grid system, is further away. However, the investment cost of PV Hybrid systems are mainly dependent on the generation capacity of the source which in turn is related to the demand by the customers. Thus, for a small demand, a small investment is needed and for a large demand, a larger investment is needed. Therefore, decentralized and sustainable renewable energy systems have been promoted for electrification of remote areas where grid extension is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Walter Moss An Age Of Progress Analysis Today, most people take electricity for granted, especially in the United States and other developed countries of the world. According to Walter Moss in his book, An Age of Progress?, Clashing Twentieth–Century Global Forces, during the twentieth century, perhaps no other technological advancement, even the automobile, affected the people of the world more than electricity. Electricity would become the foundation for the development of new technological advancements in industries such as agriculture, health and science, environment, and technology. Production and consumption in all these industries would continue to rise throughout the century with reliance on electricity to flourish. The widespread use of electricity started towards the end of the nineteenth century. At first electricity, both in the United States and abroad, was used primarily for lighting streets, operating public transit, and by stores, restaurants, and other commercial and industrial enterprises.
