2. Before I got interested in working in the media and Hollywood, I
wanted to be a doctor and save lives and be really cool.
3. But I changed my mind in second grade when one of the two local
hospitals filmed a commercial at our school and chose MY class to
feature.
4. What's even cooler is that on the day of filming, THEY GAVE ME A
CLOSE UP!! (Unfortunately I can't watch the commercial anymore
because the copy I received was on a VHS tape and we no longer have a
VHS player.)
5. Seeing all of the equipment and how much the crew was having (and not
having to do school work all day) really ignited my passion for wanting to
work in Hollywood.
6. Fast forward a few years to high school and I've signed up to take the
Broadcast/Video Production class and the Graphics Communications
class.
7. These classes, along with getting to design, plan, and direct the broadcast
coverage of the all of the football games at the school system's football
stadium really changed my mind from wanting to work in Hollywood and
making films to working on LIVE events.
8. Let me go ahead and tell you, directing a LIVE event is extremely
stressful and fun and organized chaos but the adrenaline rush is
pure awesomeness.
9. During my senior year, I was able to get an internship at the local FOX
affiliate, the head intern for our school's graphics and print lab, and was
also the Editor-in-Chief for our school's magazine, The Chief.
10. Having both of these internships got me interested in moving
out of a broadcast-only career field and into a broader media
career.
11. Being senior year, I started looking around at different colleges
and universities and seeing what they offered as far as a media
program.
12. I had already heard of Full Sail, but figured they were too expensive for
me and I wanted to go and move off and live on campus and have that
"college experience" that everyone talks about (Full Sail doesn't offer on-campus
housing).
13. But I wound up getting a job as a news technician/backup director at the FOX affiliate I interned
at and one of my colleagues told me he went to Full Sail online for the film program and he loved
it. So after I did some thinking, I decided to pursue a media communications degree from Full Sail
University because it was the best program that combined both of my passions: broadcast/video
production and graphic communications.
