One of his most important discoveries with this artifact was the cell. After he saw a number of small boxes though the microscope in the observation of cork, he decided to call them cells. The original invention was a simple light microscope that used a source of light and glass to magnify the object under observation. Scientists continue making microscopes with better resolution and magnification. In the 1600’s and 1700’s microscopes were very unique and different from one another; this was because they were handmade. They were so valuable during that time that they were covered in fish skin or gold. It’s amazing all the different things that scientists are able to see through this device. Nowadays the microscope has come a long way given that for the first time scientists are able to see individual atoms. This was possible with the invention of an electron microscope at a cost of over 27 million (peanuts or dollar? You must specify) dollars. One of the most outstanding details of this microscope is the fact that its basic structure is very similar to the ones made in the 1800. Light microscopes are still used. They are great for observing insects and plants. There are varies techniques used to see objects under the microscope. The selection of the technique depends on what kind of microscope you have and the type of observation you want to make. <br />
