1. Jessica Díaz Rivera
RISE Program
Laboratory# 1: (Microscopy and Photomicrography)
In our first laboratory this Friday Dr. Ross talked about Robert Hooke who invented the microscope. He observed materials that were in his mouth called bacteria. He saw that the box structure found in, ( the tissue) of cork looked like little prison cells and decided to name it cell. There are two types of microscopes: the scanning electron microscope (with which you can observe atoms) and the light microscope. We saw a video about corn considered the fruit that is a single grain. Inside the corn we saw the starch called endosperm contained in each kernel. The video was made possible by using an electron microscope. After the theory, each group had different assignments. Our group’s theme was pond water. We had to take pond water from the fountain and prepare a blank slide, look through the microscope at the different particles or small things that we saw. We took photos with Q application and prepared a video in iphoto in order to present our findings.
