The financial assets of the
mutual fund industry
The problem is asking us to find
the maximum value of the total
assets of the financial assets of
the mutual fund industry
between the years of 2005-
2008

• We can approximate
the total value of the
assets with this
function given to us
by the problem
Question is asking us to find the
maximum value, in other words
the highest point on the graph.

4. Solution
• So to get the
points we plug in
the function given
to us to get the
points! Simple
enough

And our y plane is the
value.

5. Solution
As shown on the graph our
highest value for y (in
trillions) is roughly about
6.986
(it was tricky using a graphing
calculator form the internet I
couldn't’t figure out how to change
the x values to years)
We zoom in a bit, and
try to locate where the
values are the largest, or
in other words, where y
is the highest

6. Conclusion
• So we have
learned that
between the
years of 2005-
2008, the
mutual fund
industry had a
maximum value
of 6.99 trillion
dollars
We check our answers and it appears that we
are correct!
