1. Film Video Analysis
Postcode Wars
Purpose
The Purpose of Postcode Wars was to inform people about wars between
different areas. Also it was a part of a bigger project to unify Wolverhampton.
In the 15 minute sequel, split into two parts, it uses different people who have
may been involved in some type between two different areas or have known a
person who was involved in war between two different areas. It also
demonstrates how Postcode Wars occurs when a person from a different area
enters into an area they have war with. This is to promote the idea of
Postcode Wars to influence people what they were and how a person from a
different area of the city would be approached.
Genre & Format
The genre of the video is a promotional video, which is to raise awareness of
Postcode Wars to the community in order to stop postcode wars and to unify
Wolverhampton together. It is a formal 15 minute video which showed scenes
of what happens where a person who enters in an area in which they do not
belong in and they are approached by a person who does live in that area and
also interviews on people’s opinions about post code wars.
Content & Mise en scene
There were different camera shots used within Postcode Wars. There were
close ups used for when the two individuals were communicating with each
other arguing about the area that one of the individuals didn’t belong to and
the other one did. Mid shots were also used in the short film video.
The dialogue was unscripted, meaning that people had to improvise on what
they said. The movement of the camera involved lots of transitions in each of
the scenes moving from one camera shot to another.
The lighting on one of the characters was dark, showing that the character is
a serious character; he was not a very good one; he never liked anyone that
was from a different area.
The other characters lighting were brighter than the main character, which
was the leader of the group. This showed that they were more innocent than
the main group leader, which always wanted to look for a fight with anyone.
The other main character’s lighting was bright, showing innocence and that he
had confidence and could stand up to anyone who wanted to cause trouble.
The props used were phones, which were used for the characters to
communicate with each other via phone call and text messaging.
The costumes used were normal clothing, just tracksuits and hoodies to
represent the people who are involved in the postcode wars.
2. The location was in a normal city where a postcode war event may occur. It
was also in a pub where a pool table room was to show that the characters
were having a normal conversation, discussing about the person they met that
looked like they did not belong in their area.
The acting/movement of the characters were different.
The character, which was from a different area, was a brave character, and
was straightforward with what he said and he was not afraid to do anything.
He also could discuss briefly what he actually said when he was talking to
another person who asked him if he was in a certain situation with another
character.
The acting/movement of the character who lead the group shows the
audience that he is looking for a fight as soon as anyone says something
about him behind his back. Also, it shows us that he does not want anyone in
the area that does not belong with and is looking to start a postcode war.
The second character, which was wearing the hat, was two faced, and he
liked to twist up what people say which could make him cause fights between
two individuals. Also, it made him look like he wanted to get a person to fight
his friend so the friend could beat them up and he could assist them.
The third character was calmer, not like the others. He would assist his friend
in a fight. He would hear what the other character would tell him and pass on
the message to the main character and this would cause an argument
between two people, but this would not be his fault because he does not know
the real story, just the propaganda that the other person in the group told him.
Meaning
The meaning of Postcode Wars was a brief explanation between what would
go on between two areas, which were in postcode wars with each other. Also
the people who were interviewed gave their brief opinion on Postcode Wars
and if weapons were involved.
Target Audience
The target audience in which this Film Video were aimed at were groups such
as gang members, who are more likely to be involved in Postcode Wars and
also the different areas within Wolverhampton. This video was created to
promote what happens with Postcode Wars if someone enters a completely
different area and they are questioned where they are from. The age ranges
are from 12-25 years because this is the age group, which is more likely to
cause postcode wars. Also the gender that this is aimed at is male because
males are more violent and are more likely to cause trouble and they are
more dominant. The socio-economic group that this is aimed at is group E,
which is aimed at people such as school students, and unemployed people.
This is because they are the group that are more likely to cause postcode
wars.
