HEALTHCARE FOR THE GERIATRIC AGE GROUP
Aging is a natural process that comes with a cost. It is normal
and evident that this
process poses a great challenge for all in the society.
Chronologically it refers to those with 65
years and above, and these are the people who have a high
prevalence of chronic diseases or
even mental illnesses. The Americans despise the old, and this
is usually evident in the media.
The old are portrayed as weak, comic and indecisive. However
this notion is incorrect because
the old usually have imminent knowledge which can’t be found
in the younger generation.
Therefore it is important for the government, the citizens and
important stakeholders in the
country to come up with policies, measures, and assistance to
ensure that these people live longer
because, in the country at individual levels, they are iconic and
very beneficial.
The Administration on Aging (AOA) is an agency within the US
Department of Health
and Human Services designated to carry the activities aimed to
cater for the welfare of the old
people. According to the United States & United States (1971),
the AOA is assigned a mandate
of promoting the well-being of older individuals. It provides
services and programs designed to
help them to live independently in their residing premises and
their homes. The agency also
offers financial support to persons who are above the age of 60
years. The AOA also provides
home based and community-based services to seniors regarding
adult day care, transport, and
health promotion programs.
The government is always in the frontline in ensuring that the
welfare of the old people is
taken care of. Therefore the government gives financial
assistance to them because at their age;
they are not working, and therefore they don’t earn any income.
The financial support delegated
to them helps them in important life aspects, (Sines et al, 2005).
The finance they are given will
assist them in payment of bills like the heating bills, medication
and also nutrition. With all the
above favorable conditions, the life span of the old individuals
will increase.

Contractions are not
appropriate in academic
writing. Use "does not"
instead of "doesn't" or "will
not" instead of "won't." This
will ensure a professional and
academic tone. [Heather

HEALTHCARE FOR THE GERIATRIC AGE GROUP
Family members and the general community are the nearest
parties that are accessible to
the old. Both play a significant role in caring for the elderly
parents by ensuring that they are in
access to good health care, handling legal questions and
ensuring that they find the right living
situation. Talking to them is an efficient way to know what they
want their wishes and the
available options. It gives them an assurance that support will
always be on the way when they
need it. According to Harrington & Estes. (2008), danger
signals should be used by family and
community members to know when these people require any
help. These may include general
forgetfulness, sudden weight loss or even failure to take
medication and overdosing themselves.
Distance can be a hindrance between family members,
(Harrington, C., & Estes, C. L.
2008). They should take appropriate measures that ensure that
they can coordinate for the proper
being of their old family members regardless of the distance
that separates them. First, they can
set up an alarm that they can call and summon for immediate
help. Also, they can manage the
doctor and medical appointments to ensure that they never miss.
They can also hire a case
manager who will coordinate your loved one’s care manage bills
and communicate to the family.
Private institutions can offer care for the old, although they do
it at a higher cost. The
private institutions usually offer attractive and high-quality
services. In this case, the interested
parties should use the social security and medical assistance to
obtain the services of these
institutions which will ensure that they take care of their old
members.
The old, as we have seen are very important. Therefore every
person should put a hand to
ensure that their welfare is desirable, and by this, they will live
longer Their experience, wisdom
and knowledge are crucial and they can impart it to the young
people and thus ensure smooth
continuity of the whole community. However, on their part, the
old individuals themselves

should also adopt measures which will enhance their well being
too and not to depend on others
merely, (United States & the United States 1971).
Many elders have the notion that they are no longer useful in
the society and therefore
they take no action that will keep them healthy and active.
According to United States & United
States (1971), physical exercises stimulate the mind and the
body barring unnecessary ailments.
Lack of activities is the primary cause of obesity in old people,
and they also tend to overuse
alcohol and medicine such as painkillers and this negative
impact on their general body health

1. merely,
Before the conclusion, add
another body paragraph that
includes a counterargument
and a rebuttal. In other words,
discuss an argument from the
opposing side and then prove
it wrong. [Heather Nielson]
2. health
The essay ends very abruptly
with no satisfying sense of
closure. You need a
conclusion that gives an
overview of your argument
and includes a call to action.
