I personally was not as excited about this piece as I hoped. I like louder and more exciting music
that changes from soft to loud and has a more upbeat tempo. The second piece preformed was,
"Sedona" by Steven Reineke. I really like this piece a lot. It reminds me of Christmas and happy
times. I like how in the beginning the piece starts off softer, but you can still hear all the different
instruments playing their part. The tone of the flutes is very beautiful to listen to and I really enjoyed
how the piece slowed down to really enhance that sound. Overall, I really enjoyed this piece and it
was very well played. The next piece played was, "Salvation is created" by Pavel Tschesnokoff and
Bruce Houseknecht. This piece starts off soft but then you hear the Timpani which brings in a louder
sound to the piece. This piece has a very slow tempo which was hard for me to keep my focus on.
When I listen to this piece and I hear the Timpani, I think of something exciting happening and then
it goes back to being normal again. Overall, I had a harder time concentrating but I didn't mind it.
The next piece played was, "Kentucky 1800" by Clare Grundman. This piece started off with a
louder sound

Anne R. Belk Music Concert Analysis: The Jazz Ensemble
If you did not make it out to see The Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday, Apr. 19th, then you really missed
out on a great evening of music. Family, friends, and jazz lovers nearly filled the Anne R. Belk
Theater to watch and listen to the performance directed by Dr. Will Campbell, with special guest
Derrick Gardner. Gardner is a highly accomplished jazz trumpet player, who has traveled the world
playing jazz music. The Ensemble member are; Bryce Harris, Jonathan Carroll, Cody Belton, Garrett
Brown and Bryan Patterson on the saxophone, Richard Hall, Casey Blackwelder, Wesley Taylor,
Liam McMahon and Cameron Francis on the trumpet, Nathan Ricer, Patrick Foray, Virginia Crooks
and Kyle Barnhardt on the trombone, Dallas Holder on the piano, Brian Gilbert on the guitar, and
Colin Ray and Eric Chang on the drums. The Ensemble played seven songs, and four of those were
played with Gardner. The songs were performed in this order "A Pair of Aces," "You Must Believe
in Spring," "Count Me In," "Big Dipper," "Footprints," "Just a Touch" and "Lil' Fawdy." All of the
songs were performed exceptionally well, out of the seven these two were my favorite. ... Show

This song had a nice ballad sound to it. Casey Blackwelder played a wonderfully smooth trumpet
solo. There were a few moments where the background music seemed to overpower the solo, but
that did not affect the quality of the solo. The next solo was Bryce Harris on the saxophone. The
solo was simple, but yet complemented the song extremely well. This song was played second and

The director of this part was the wife of Byron Delto, Clare Delto. They had also one Armenian
accompanist Leon Thomasian. If I am not mistaken he was alumni of Glendale Community College
and had a master degree in music. The first piece of this part was the old music composed by Henry
Macini and arranged by Jay Althouse called "The Pink Panther". I like the mood that this music
brings with it. I use to play this song on the piano during my childhood. It was very interesting to
hear this music with the unique performance of this ensemble. They were imitating the music
without a single world and it was awesome because with the variation, tone, accents and temp in
their voices and with the gestures and mimics of their body they were bringing to me the feeling of
something strange that would happen within every moment and then in the ending there is a
culmination of this story with atonal harmony. Then a solo male artist probably a student started
singing an acapella the famed song "Lately" by Stevie Wonder. It was a very spectacular
performance without any microphone or special equipment for voice–enhancing. I am pretty sure
that he had a strong tenor voice with a very artistic behavior. After "60's Rewind" arranged by Kirby
Shaw came for me probably the most interesting part of vocal improvisation. It started by couple

Jazz Ensemble I And Studio Orchestra Analysis
The Jazz Ensemble I & Studio Orchestra, on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 showcased the talent of
young musicians' weather it was playing, singing or arraigning music. The first part of the concert
was dedicated to the jazz ensemble, which presented its ability in both big and small band songs
with different instrumentation. The studio orchestra was then introduced for the second half, with
the jazz ensemble remaining on stage as they joined them for certain pieces.
The first piece played titled "Two of One" was dominated mainly by trumpet and tenor sax. It has a
constant bass line, and it's accompanied by piano. The overall feeling was swing, which was
emphasized by the drum set playing swing notes. It was set up as a big band, and the only electronic

There was a flute and violin solo as well as a guitar solo. Very much percussion heavy, even the
triangle had a very consistent part. "Women of the Wall" was a piece that feature a quartet of a cello,
flute, tenor sax and a trumpet. The orchestra was used as an accompaniment for this mysterious
piece. The tambourine which hadn't been used was prominent to Jewish feel of the song.
Pieces like "Spring Can Really Hang You up The Most" and "Emerge and see the Emergency in the
Immersion Sea" had a very relaxed and passive structures. Oboes and violas, which are seldom used
as main instruments were forth in their respective songs.
The most jazz dominant piece in this segment was "Skyline Pigeon". Once again a vocalist join the
ensemble to perform the song. The piano along with the vibraphone had a very commanding
presence of to start the piece. The drums set played a rock pattern which gave the piece its steady
form.
The concert ended with a very energetic song, which all the musicians in the stage played in. This
arrangement was very rock/country like. A vocalist accompanied the orchestra. His vibrant

Concert Analysis: The Philadelphia Orchestra
The Philadelphia Orchestra Percussion Group performed at Widener University on October 23,
2016. The concert lasted approximately one hour and a total of five pieces were performed. The
pieces they performed were called, Music of Pieces of Wood, Gainsborough, Seoul Spirit, Zones,
and Little Rhumba. The group consisted of five performers, Chris Deviney, Don Liuzzi, Angela
Nelson, Phillip O'Banion, and Victor Pablo. The performers used a variety of percussion instruments
throughout the concert; however, some of the instruments that were used in most of the pieces were
the timpani, marimbas, chimes, cymbals, and bass drums. My general reaction to the concert was
that it was very relaxing and enjoyable. I was impressed with the musicians and the way they
performed. The musicians were rhythmically together and seemed very prepared for the concert.
The visual setup was attracting because the musicians had a variety of instruments displayed, some
of which I never seen before. The atmosphere was relaxed yet intense upon the performers, which
made me more attentive. The performers seemed to have put a lot of energy into the concert. I ...

In this piece, I could clearly hear the melody and the instruments that supported it. The dynamics in
Gainsborough changed throughout the three movements. The first movement is lively and features
quick lines between the marimbas, with interruptions from the timpani. The second movement is
slow and has more of a harsh sound to it. A jazzy recitative also appears in the middle of this
movement, in order to change the dynamics. The last movement is quick and rhythmically active.
This movement employs the concepts of melody and harmony, just not in conventional ways.
Hearing the glockenspiel and marimbas helped to carry the melody. I could hear a combination of
consonances and dissonances, as a result of the balance between the melody and the

High School Jazz Concert Report
This concert took place on Thursday March 16, 2017 in the Atkinson Recital Hall located at New
Mexico State University in the Music Center at 7:30 in the evening. The concert consisted of four
jazz bands, NMSU jazz one and two as well Las Cruces High school jazz band one and two. The
first the stage the NMSU jazz II, director by Pancho Romero. The first song they had played was
"Primera Vista composed by Wayne Wallace". Along with the jazz band they also have a few
percussionists as well, on bongos, xylophone, and a drum set. The band also played two more songs
called "Undecided arranged by Mike Tomaro/Shavers" and "Afro Blue arranged by Michael

The band was directed by Jordan Sayre and Arnold Rose. The band started off with "Perdido
Arranged by Roland Barret/Juan Tizol". For a high school band they had very strong beginning, the
song was very fast tempo, and lots of bold accents through the piece. The tenor sax was really the
star of this piece the band was really following him instead the tenor sax kind of keeping time and
beat. The band played about 2 more songs and LCHS Jazz I came on to stage about played another 3
songs as well. One the played was Called "The Chicken arranged by Kris Berg/Alfred James". This
songs included a lot of saxophones solos from alto sax to baritone sax. The trumpet also played a
big part to for solo, this piece they did lot of crescendos as well as decrescendos. It gave a more bold
jazz feeling which I really enjoyed. Last but not least the NMSU jazz I came about on the stage to
finish out the concert. They had four songs to play instead of three like the other bands. They started
off with "Cell Talk composed by Sammy Nestico". This piece was a calmer piece like a modern
typical jazz piece. There was great transitions as well bold accents through the pieces. The band
ends with a piece called "Uno Mas composed by Paul Lopez". This piece was more fast tempo as
well bold accents was well especially from the trumpets. It gave me more a swing vibe it was super
neat to hear. This piece was perfect

Concert Ethnography
Concert Ethnography: Vijay Iyer Sixtet The performance by the Vijay Iyer Sextet on March 7 at
Memorial Hall reveals a deeper connection between jazz and the public's interest in evocative tones.
Vijay Iyer is a Grammy–nominated jazz composer and pianist. He is the main composer for the
sextet and is seen as the unspoken leader. His sextet is made up of five of his other closest friends,
who are all composers and musicians as well. The music this group performs is categorized as
improvisational jazz. However, the music also includes different styles of music from other genres.
By playing music that encompasses several different genres, the Vijay Iyer Sextet is able to appeal

The instrumentation of the show included a piano, bass, drums, saxophone, trumpet, fugal horn, and
soundboard. The use of popular jazz instruments further reveals the performer's intention to give the
audience a taste of the sentimental, antique tones of jazz music. As the instrumentation reveals the
genre of the music being performed, the stage for the show was set up in a way that highlighted the
artists performing solos during the improvisational pieces. For example, the use of lights played a
large role in visually isolating the soloists. The lights used during the show only illuminated the
performers that were located upstage, while there were no lights used to illuminate downstage. Thus,
as performers were not playing in the piece they would move downstage into the darkness. This
would cause the focus of the audience to shift to the other performers that were still playing. The
intentional movement of the artists downstage reveals the artist's intent to highlight each individual
instrument in the sextet and the improvisational skills of the artist playing them. Also, the visual
depiction of an artist emerging from the shadows located downstage and playing prompted the
audience to clap. The clapping was also prompted after a musician finishes the personal solo
improvisational piece within a song. The clapping from the audience when an instrument

Gator Tail Concert Report Sample
On September 12th, Gator Tail, a jazz band consisting of faculty members, performed at Kimbrough
Hall. This concert was the first in a series of WSU Faculty Artist concerts that are being held
throughout the year. Gator Tail is a jazz band, composed of four faculty members, with both blues
and funk influences, giving it a more modern sound. One unique aspect of the band was the use of a
Hammond organ. Organs are not typically seen in jazz bands, and Gator Tail's unique sound comes
from this instrument. During the concert, there were many solo parts played by all the instruments.
For example, Greg Yasinitsky, the saxophonist, would often have solo parts during a song, and one
of the other instruments would respond with another solo part, exemplifying the "call and response"
technique. The concert was completely made up of original compositions written by the members of
the band. While each composition was written by members, each song had their own individual
sound and style, making the music interesting to listen to. One composition, Undercurrent composed
by Brad Ard, was heavily influenced by Norwegian jazz, giving it a unique sound that made it stand
out from the other compositions. Teo Ciavarella was a guest ... Show more content on

did not know there were concerts so often until I took this course and I think many students would
be interested in going if they knew about the concerts. The audience enjoyed the concert, and I
personally enjoyed how each composition had a story to go with it. For example, Partial Eclipse got

Essay about Latin jazz orchestra
If I were to use one word to describe the "Afro–Latin Jazz Orchestra" that word would be
astonishing. At first, hearing that I was required to attend a Jazz concert I was completely turned off.
I am very closed minded and automatically thought to myself that the kind of music would be
dreadful. That is not the case anymore. This genre of music is amusing and very pleasing to the ears.
The band members are some of the most talented musicians that I ever saw or heard.
Standing room tickets were sold out when we arrived at Mc Carter Theater. For ten dollars we
purchased box seats right near the stage. My friend Kevin and I were thrilled with our seats which
allowed the beat view of the whole stage. The theater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would then stand up and take a bow. The female member, Erica von Kleist, was very good at
the alto saxophone. I also liked Mario Rivera who played the tenor saxophone. The soloists' that
would perform during each song would stand when it was time for there solo. My favorite song of
the night was entitled "Wild Jungle". Before the song Arturo gave us a brief introduction on what to
expect. He mentioned a saxophone duo solo between Mario Rivera and one of his fellow band
members that he taught. Arturo referred to the solo as "the master vs. the apprentice." When the solo
began my jaw dropped. It was so fast and lovely to listen too. Both musicians went back and forth
playing. I could not tell who was a better saxophone player. Mario Rivera must have taught his
student really well because they were both remarkable. In this song there was also a bongo solo that
really caught my attention. The musician played so fast and kept a perfect beat.
Another song that I enjoyed was entitled "Humility". There was also some mild humor in the
introduction to this song. The trumpet soloist took off Mario Rivera's jacket and put it on creating
laughter when Arturo said it's a good look for him. I too found his outfit rather funny. He was
wearing leather pants, and chain wallet, and a nice button down shirt. He stood in the front of the
stage for about 3 minutes until it

My First College Concert And First Jazz Concert Of My Life
On Tuesday, September 26, 2017, I attended my first college concert and first jazz concert of my
life. I attended a jazz combos concert with five different ensembles. The concert consisted of both
undergraduate and graduate students. The concert was performed in Russell Hall in Bengtson
Auditorium. Bengtson Auditorium is a lovely auditorium that allows the sound and or music to flow
throughout the entire room. The five ensembles played anything from two to three pieces each
giving you a better idea of their style of music rather than what one single piece would have been
able to tell you. Throughout all five ensembles there were several solos including: saxophone,
trumpet, trombone and a guitar solo. The solos were rather interesting to listen to as a large number
of the pieces that were played throughout the concert were originals. The pieces all had their own
flow, a person could notice a number of the pieces had a lot more minor parts, while others seemed
to be played entirely as in the major. The pieces really made me feel like I wanted to get up and
move, they usually had a quick and upbeat pace that made me excited and wanting to hear more of
what was to come. The rhythm of a majority of the pieces pulled me in so that I could truly listen to
the pieces as they changed and get a better understanding of what I was listening to rather than just
hearing the piece. Overall there really was not a piece that would have been unenjoyable for anyone
in attendance. With the

Descriptive Essay About A Concert
I enjoy listening to a variety of all kinds of music. However, interestingly, through whole my life, I
have never attended many classical concerts before; especially classical saxophone ones. Compared
to all the other concerts that I have gone to, the saxophone studio recital was a definite change in
atmosphere. The Dana Concert Series presented the YSU saxophone studio recital in the Butler
Institute of American Art. The students of Dr. James C. Umble performed at 12:15 in the
prepossessing building. The room filled with many loved ones, students, faculty, and bystanders.
Everyone remained very quiet waiting for the show to begin as the performers warmed up for a little
while off to the side of the stage.
Four performers walked onto the stage getting in their ready positions. A gentleman sitting on the
opposite side of the walkway up in the front seats starting clapping loudly. One of the performers
had looked over, and waved their hand and mouthed them to stop kindly. It was an awkward, yet
funny situation because I believe it was a family member. The performers were Christie Hrdlicka,
soprano saxophone, Anthony Bonamase, alto saxophone, Matthew Eustace, tenor saxophone, and
Jake Jeges, baritone saxophone. The performers then walked to their ready positions and the
audience began to clap. They had remained standing, which was odd to me because any instrumental
concerts I have attended they always sat down. The music stands stood as tall as the person in front
of them.

Double Bass Research Paper
The double bass is the largest and deepest sounding of the stringed instruments in the viol family,
although scholars sometimes argue about its true lineage. This instrument is prevalent in many
genres like jazz, blue grass, and rock and roll. There is also a science behind its strings and the
melodious sound that they make. The history of the double bass goes back as early as 1493 when
people started noting that there were viols that were as big as humans. The first illustration of the
instrument is found in 1516. Historians thought that it would be more important to find the earliest
form of tuning using either forths or third– fourth tuning. The term third– fourth tuning is named by
Praetorius that was used for a six–string instrument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many six–stringed instruments were lighter that later became the modern double bass. There were
very few five–stringed basses in the 17th century. Leopold Mozart had noted that there were some
very intricate pieces for concertos, trios and solos that were made specifically for these less popular
pieces. These models consisted of notes like F1–A1–D–F#–B. In the early 1609, Adriano Banchieri
made an early bass that had six strings D1–G1–C–E–A–d, but in the next century, it was
overpowered by a three stringed bass that contained either A1–D2–G2 or G1–D2–G2 and also had
no frets. This was on of the first symphony bass models that lasted up until the 1920s. At that time
E1 was added and made it easier to play lower notes instead of transposing them up an octave. The
double bass with its four strings has a range of pitches. It is tuned in fourths so its basic strings are
E1–A1–D2–G2. Its pitches start as low as 41.2 Hz and go as high as 98 Hz. It gains these pitches by
putting tension on the strings. The large strings have a higher mass and stiffness that also help
achieve this set of

Attending A Jazz Concert At Uncw
I chose to attend a jazz concert at UNCW on September 28th, 2016. The musicians playing were:
Jerald Shynett on trombone, Andy Whittington on piano, Natalie Boeyink on bass, Justin Hoke on
guitar and Michael D'Angelo on drums. There were two special guests playing with this ensemble:
Lynn Grissett on trumpet and Ryan Mulder on saxophone (joined them on stage for only a few select
pieces).
Upon walking in to the theater the stage was set with the piano on stage left the drums on stage right
and the lighting was set to colors of blue and purple. At 7:31 the auditorium lights were turned down
and 6 musicians walk on stage and take their places.
The first song played was "Hope Street" written by Tom Harrell. The piece was started off with
Jerald snapping his fingers to a quick beat and then the Trumpet (Lynn) starts with a loud entrance.
The other musicians join in and copy his notes as he plays. When the trumpet hits the high notes he
trills the note as he holds it before dropping back down in PITCH to match the rest of the
instruments. The bass, drums, and guitar carry the beat and the trumpet and trombone take turns
playing in a sort of solo. As the trumpet and trombone fall back into rhythm with the other
instruments the tempo becomes quick and the guitar take the lead in the piece. All three "solos"
mirror each other in notes and TEMPO as the rest of the instruments keep the rhythm and beat. All
instruments join in at the same note and continue playing together now in a

Essay on The Music That Comes from Instruments
Music would not be music if it were not for the sound produced by an object we know of as an
instrument. "A musical instrument is a device created or adapted to make musical sounds (Oxford
dictionary (British & World English))." Music dates back to many years and even before electrical
instruments humans alway found a way to create sound. Whether it was by clapping, singing or
humming people alway created ways to create sound. Although not a proven fact, I strongly believe
music is a way to connect oneself emotionally. Music will and alway be a way for individuals to
express their emotions such as, sadness, excitement, happiness and anger. However, music will not
be music if it weren't for the sounds produced by the instruments. There are ... Show more content

To play this instrument, first, one must choose which saxophone they want to play. Yes, Saxophones
come in different sizes and tunes.
"The most common (and most practical) ones to play are the soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone.
Saxophones are generally classified into one of two families... the "military band" family (that
includes mainly Eb and Bb saxes, alternating in tuning) and the "orchestral" family that includes the
less popular saxophones in C and F ("How to Get Started with the Saxophone")."
The military band family consist of the Soprillo, Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass,
Contrabass and the subcontrabass (also known as the Tubax) ("Saxophone"). The Orchestral Family
consist of C–Soprano, Mezzo–Soprano and the C–Melody ("Saxophone"). Not only do you need the
instrument, but you need accessories also to accompany the Saxophone. First, you will need a
mouthpiece, a ligature, reeds, a neck–strap, swab, fingering chart and method books. The Saxophone
is an instrument the sounds awesome and is an instrument played by many great musicians such as
Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Jimmy Dorey, etc.
The next instrument I find to be interesting is the Accordion.
"The Accordion is a portable wind instrument consisting of two reed organs connected by a folding
bellows. Expanding and contracting the bellows provides air to vibrate the reed organs producing
the sounds. It is also known as a squeeze box because of this

Italian Piano Research Paper
Two types of stringed keyboard instrument were available to the household or court musician from
the 16th century to the middle of the 18th: the harpsichord and its near relations, the spinet and
virginal; and the clavichord. In the harpsichord family the string is plucked by a small plectrum,
originally of quill. The variety of sound from these plucked instruments is achieved not primarily by
finger pressure, but more subtly by phrasing and articulation. Variety of tonal color can be obtained,
on a harpsichord by judicious choice of registration. The harpsichord was used both for solo
performance and accompanying in chamber groups and in larger ensembles of the period. It
typically had two sets of strings per key, tuned either to the same pitch or with one set sounding an
octave higher (a 4' register). The registers were controlled by hand stops above the keyboard. Two
manuals (keyboards) were to be found on certain larger instruments, which usually featured three
sets of strings. Found from the beginning of the 16th century, the Italian harpsichords were lightly ...

Flemish instruments were more solidly constructed than the Italian, invariably with the basic two
sets of strings (either one 8' and a 4' or both at 8' pitch). Two manuals were common, though the

the additional manual used for contrast of tone with the ability to couple the registers of both

He shortly talks about what the concert will consist of. The concert opens with an introductory song
that sounds extremely presidential and is played using all of the instruments on stage. It is similar to
how Hail to the Chief is played. That is usually played right before introducing the president of the
United States. This concert has pieces named after former presidents and their speeches. After the
introduction is played John F. Kennedy's first inauguration speech is spoken by a man that is not
performing with the group. He reads Kennedy's speech and then the band plays the song that was
inspired by the speech. The same is done for the rest of the former presidents of the United States as
well as Jawaharlal Nehru Winston Churchill, Aung San Suu Kyi, and Nelson Mandela. The melody
played "Ask not what Your Country Can Do for you" was based off of the tone in Kennedy's voice
as he gave his speech. As was each other melody that was inspired by other leaders. There was
saxophone improvisation during this song and though it was an improvisation it seemed to fit in
perfectly with the rest of the song. It was a simple improvisation but was still very powerful. There
was also a short trumpet solo that was just as simple yet powerful as the one on the

Cabana Boys Concert Report
On November 18, I attended the Cabana Boys concert presented by the Music Department at
Fullerton College. The band itself was made up of Fullerton College students, and the concert was

consisted of these eight members and instruments: Jonny White, Trumpet; Jack Sneddon, Trombone;
Oscar Soriano, Sax; Blake Rambo, Bass; Gabe Barraza, Guitar; Nico Vasquez, Drum set; Juan
Garcia, Percussion and Gio Thomson, vocalist.
On the whole, this concert was a new but pleasant experience for me, because it was my first time

groovy. Notably, the genre of the majority of the songs was Jazz, and they were mainly songs by

of this song; since the lyrics are both poetic and

Uic Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert Report
The UIC Vocal Jazz Ensemble started the performance first. The ensemble consisted of thirteen
members, and they opened the performance with a Christmas carol. There were three males and four
female soloists who were scat singing. The ending of the song was very cool when the male soloist
said, "Better watch out now". The song was very interesting and created a delightful atmosphere to
start the performance along with the Christmas spirit. The second song that the ensemble performed
was called "In the Mellow Tone" by Duke Ellington. They also took turn to sing solo and scat
singing. The male singers also sung a little part without instrumental towards the end of the song.

This was a very beautiful love ballad that had a calm and romantic melody. The next song was "My
Grown Up Christmas" by Kelly Clarkson. There were four female and two male soloists. When the
soloist sang, everyone sang the harmony part. This pop song was very meaningful, inspirational, and
quite emotional about the grown up Christmas list that we wished for everyone in the world not just
for ourselves. The UIC Vocal Jazz Ensemble ended their performance with "Daddy Lessons" from
the album Lemonade by Beyoncé. This is a country and blue song. This song was a an excellent
choice to end their performance because it was very entertaining with the scat singing and funny
acting like people are exchanging a conversation. The Jazz Combo is quite small with five members
who played trumpet, baritone saxophone, double bass, guitar, and drum. The performance opened

The first song that I will be evaluating will be Man La Mancha. The first thing that I noticed that my
section did really well was the dynamics at measure seventeen. The whole band could work on is
staying in balance with other people because you could pick out certain voices in the sections. In
delsonaya we really could of brought down are volume when the flute solo came in because she
could be barley heard over the band. The bass voices could improve on ninety eight because when
we would come up in the menacing it sounded as if we were slurring the notes and not making them

Trapeze Swinger's Song 'Iron & Wine'
Trapeze Swinger– Iron & Wine Trapeze Swinger is close to a ten–minute song sung by a group
called Iron & Wine, which this song is known for capturing youth love that turns into heartbreak
through innocence of nostalgia as well as extravaganza and some religious meanings throughout the
song. As the song begins the artist addresses a past time of a close relationship (girlfriend) who in
this song still has a huge impact in his life. The childhood memories he still has haunts him in
recollection due to his initial words for each verse, "Please, remember me" ultimately having
emphasis and to indicate the imagery that this girl was important who is no longer in his life. The

However, many female singers, such as Mariah Carey, do employ falsetto to extend their range.
Whistle: The physiology of the whistle register is the most poorly understood of the vocal registers.
It is known that when producing pitches in this register vibration occurs only in some anterior
portion of the vocal folds. This shorter vibrating length naturally allows for easier production of
high pitches. The physiological process that causes this is not currently known.
Though the whistle register is most commonly used to produce pitches above E6, it can be used to
produce lower pitches. By the physiological definition just detailed, it is a configuration of the vocal
folds and not a range of pitches. There is, however, no universally agreed upon scheme for
classifying vocal registers, so it is common to see other definitions. See the article on vocal
registration for a discussion.
[edit]
In the European classical music, the whistle register is only rarely called for. When it is, it is
exclusively used by coloratura sopranos to produce pitches above C6. Probably the most well–
known example of the whistle register in European classical music is the aria "Der Hölle Rache
kocht in meinem Herzen" from the opera Die Zauberflöte; it calls for several pitches above C6, up
to F6.
In the popular music of the West, the whistle register is used more often than in its classical music. It
is used with more variety and to produce much higher

Elizabethan Era of Music Culture Essay
The music was played very often as a normal routine. People considered it a must to know how to
play an instrument, sing, or be involved somehow with music in this age of time. Instruments in the
1600's were able to make any type of music; the amazing part was no matter how many instruments
you used it would always sound pure and the same. Another unique thing about the music and
culture in the 1600's is that it was also healthy for the body. During the Elizabethan Era the people
would gather together to dance and dance for hours, their stamina must have been incredible. Music
was use to entertain most people. Before the music became a big part in people life during the

Did you know at times you would be dancing with a complete stranger and you could've been lucky
enough to meet your dance partners, this made dancing all the more exciting in the Elizabethan Era
time period. Not only did the people love to dance but they would dance for hours and hours a day. I
love to dance but I could imagine how tired I would be after so many hours of dancing. We had two
people to visit our school and what I learned about the women were that no matter what you would
have great posture, reasons being is because they wore this body brace what we call girdles in this
age of time. What the body brace would do is automatically sit the women up at all times. Even if
women so much bend over it could break your ribs. They also told us about the theatre and how they
would practice the stunts they do in most of the drama and actions plays. What many people didn't
know was that the person performing the stunts did very little movements and the person who the
stunts was performed on did most of the work to make the stunt seem so real. All of Shakespeare
plays were not very popular in that period of time like they are now and it's amazing because most
things they did we thought were weird and it flips during our age. It states on the Elizabethanera.org

Trombone History
The trombone was one of the first orchestra instruments capable of playing all 12 chromatic pitches
within an octave. Trombones exist in several ensembles including jazz, big band, orchestra, ska and
even rock bands. An early ancestor of the trombone is an instrument called a sacbut. It first appeared
in early Renaissance music and came in four versions in order from highest to lowest –– alto, tenor,
bass and great bass.
Instrument Family
The trombone is an instrument from the brass family. Since the trombone plays in the bass clef and
in the lower part of the brass family range, it is considered a low–brass instrument. Brass
instruments are named for both the materials that are used in construction and the various types of
metal mouthpieces that produce the sound. Mouthpiece materials include silver, brass, gold,
titanium, steel and even plastic. Plastic mouthpieces provide inferior sound but ... Show more

This is another kind of instrument that is secondary to the instrument family. Non–pitched
instruments do not have a definable pitch. With non–pitched instruments, it is sometimes possible to
identify high, medium and low sounds, but these pitches can't be attached to specific notes. Pitched
instruments have specific pitches notated in a musical score. The trombone and all of its relatives,
including the alto and bass, fall into the category of pitched instruments.
Monophonic or Polyphonic
A third way of determining the kind of instrument is whether the instrument is monophonic or
polyphonic. Monophonic instruments are only capable of sounding one pitch at a time. Polyphonic
instruments are capable of sounding several pitches at once, such as the piano. While a player may
sing through the trombone, thereby making it appear to be a polyphonic instrument, it is actually a
monophonic instrument capable of playing one pitch at a time since it can only produce one note
without using the voice.

Experiencing the Trumpet Essay
He who is a true trumpeter ... can both sound across a great distance out in the open air, and also

–The Gentleman's Journal of January 1692
The trumpet is an aerophone, and it produces sound by passing a airstream "through the player's
vibrating lips, so gaining intermittent access to the air column which is to be made to vibrate" (14,
par. 1). Present–day trumpets are made of brass, and can play a very wide range of registers through
the use of the instrument's valves or the musician's 'lipping' technique to modulate the pitch of the
trumpet. According to Bo Lawergren, the trumpet was originally used to mask and intensify the
human voice (42). However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ancestor to the modern trumpet is the Roman tuba, a long metal trumpet with a wide 'J'–shaped
end. The Roman tube was played with a bone mouthpiece, and was used for military signalling (14,
par. 8).
Despite the atrocities committed during the third crusade from 1189–1192, useful methods of artistic
metalworking were reverse–engineered from Muslim prototypes. These methods, along with the
recent discovery of many copper and silver mines in Germany, and "development of water–powered
rolling mills and forge hammers" (13, 350) allowed the construction of high quality brass and silver
trumpets which produced their familiar "loud and bright sonority" (13, 350).
The buisine, sometimes called the herald's trumpet, was created using the new metalworking
technologies described above. The buisine was a straight trumpet at 150cm in length with a belled
flare at the end (7, 26). Peter Downey explains that in it's early life, the buisine was used for
signaling military commands. Downey states that the buisine was not seen in a music performance
until the Ars Nova period when it "began to find a place in the performance of dance music at the
courts" (26). In this setting, the buisine would usually provide accompaniment as a bass drone for a

Last Monday, October 17th, I had the privilege of seeing the performances of the University
Repertoire Ensembles. They were live at the School of Music's Malcolm Bird Recital Hall, and each
ensemble played several jazz melodies that were very engaging and entertaining. The University
Repertoire Ensembles included the Contemporary Ensemble (CE), the Hard Bop Ensemble (HBE),
and the Brazilian Ensemble (BE). The CE performed the songs, "Have You Heard," "Sail Away,"
and "Got A Match," while the HBE performed, "Nica's Dream," "The Sidewinder," "Wisper Not,"
and "The Jody Grind." In addition to that, the BE performed, "Lamentos," "Pra machucar meu
coração," and "A rã."
With that, the musicians in the CE included Jake Daniels, Taylor Nelson, Dahkota Bungcayao,
Jonny Simpson, Stuart Wicke, Kiko Sebrian, Matt Griffin, and the instruments played were the
saxophone, guitar, second guitar, piano, bass, drums, and drums and percussion respectively. In the
HBE, the performers were Larry Cooper, Noah Reed, Troy Burchett and Mark McLean, Will
Kinman, and Fiona Palensky, and the instruments they played included vocals, alto saxophone,
guitar, bass, and the drums respectively. Lastly, in the BE, the players were Nala Johnson, Travis

Compare And Contrast Bb And C Trumpets
The two most common types of trumpets are Bb and C trumpets. Each trumpet has characteristics
that make it useful in different contexts. The C trumpet has a bright and penetrating sound, while the
Bb trumpet has a mellow, relaxed sound. The more commonly used instrument is the Bb trumpet,
but all professional trumpet players play the C trumpet as well. Changing between instruments poses
nominal problems since the basic finger combinations stay the same.
Timbre
The C trumpet has a brighter sound and is more agile than the Bb trumpet. The Bb trumpet,
characterized by its mellow sound, provides a darker pitch. Fanfares more commonly use Bb
trumpets, while slow lyrical passages fit the C trumpet. The Bb trumpet plays with better intonation,

told the audience about the story of music by the tempo and pattens. My favorite performer in this
concert is Veno Bender. He played the electric bass guitar in this concert, and he appeared most of
the solo in part 1. Although I was impressed by the bass and the guitar solo in the first part, part 2
made a more lasting impression on me. The ambiance of the performance was very professional yet
casual. The concert started with Fisrt Rain and Jean Marie. They combined those pieces and began
slowly as the bass was building the parttern of the music. As the passion of this piece heated up at
first, the mood suddenly became faster as the pattern of this piece felt like Blues with guitar solo. I
was stock by the sound of guitar because the guitar was a wireless guitar. I could not imagine the
price of his guitar because he tuned his guitar as the sound of piano without sound effect pedal. After
the guitar solo, bass started its' solo part. This part was one of my personal favorites because I like
the partnership of the bass and the drums of the song. The beat of the drum bass was so deep, and

The title is written in Spanish, Concerto por Trombonito, and it basically means the concert for

captured the European marching's style and had a dark and medieval feeling. The trumpeters all

electric bass for this solo. There were also many call–and–response between the bass trombone and
the rest of the ensemble throughout the whole piece. The bass trombonist had a very long
improvisation, and he used tailgating to create all kinds of sounds and timbres. He played really low
notes at the beginning and built up step by step. There was a particular part that he tried to humanize

Analysis Of Maple Leaf Rag
JOPLIN: MAPLE LEAF RAG
Scott Joplin was acknowledged, as "king of ragtime" in (1868–1917) he was a composer and pianist
whose father had been a slave. Joplin was trained in classical music. Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf
Rag" was published in 1899 with a March Tempo.
You can hear strong, steady chords in left–hand keeps the march beat going throughout the piece,
while the right–hand plays a lively, syncopated melody against this steady beat. The sections are
repeated in the usual pattern. The melody begins higher and moves down. The section is repeated.
The opening section is played. The key is change too; there is a change in the right hand rhythmic;
and left–hand leaps. Once again the section is repeated. Then it returns to the original key; strong
final cadence and the section are repeated as the music comes to end.
I feel like this piece, he wanted to wow his audience. The impressive tempo and difficulty of the
piece were his way of showing that ragtime was as legitimate as any other genre, regardless of its
origins. Maple Leaf Rag is playful, fun, and yet oddly mature. The use of the lower notes against the
high notes creates a contrast that feels like an adult borrowing childhood for a few moments. It
makes me feel young again, and the fast–paced, quirky notes are a welcome break from the normal,
more sober piano recital. I like this. This is why I say to people, tunes of the old days really do show
intuition and good old–fashioned wisdom on how to play tunes.

On November 16th, 2017 I attended the Riverview High School Kiltie Band's Fall Concert at
Riverview High School at 7:00pm and there were about 200 people in attendance. The Wind
Ensemble started by playing First Suite in E Flat for Military Band, Op. 28, No.1 by British
Composer Gustav Holst. The composition was first premiered in 1920 at the Royal Military School

military band. The First Suite has three movements, each with their own form and character.
Movement 1 is called "Chaconne". The tempo is allegro moderato. The movement is in ¾ time with
and eight–bar melody initiated by low brass. The melody repeats 16 times throughout "Chaconne".
The brass and percussion outline the theme and the whole passage is marked brilliante. There are
combinations of solo instruments including a solo horn, duet between flute and oboe, and a solo alto
saxophone. The section eventually develops into a minor key. Movement 2: "Intermezzo" has a
vivace tempo, which is lively and fast. All of this movement is dedicated to a rhythmic oboe,
clarinet and cornet solo. The movement is light in character and an instrument called the euphonium
brings us back to the first theme. The second theme is then played in a major key. Movement 3:
"March" is played at a march tempo, which is played at a consistent and regular rhythm for people

What Is The Difference Between The Trombone And The Tua

Analysis Of Jazz Ensemble Concert
On October 26, 2017, in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall at the University of South
Alabama, there was Jazz Ensemble Concert directed by Tracy Heavner. The night was filled with the
rhythmic groove of jazz. By writing this report I hope to show you, the reader, a new perspective of
Jazz Music. The first piece, Lady Bird, by Tadd Dameron was written in 1939. The Jazz Ensemble
began the piece by putting their full hearts in it. By using repetition of the melody in the saxophones
and clarinets it helps the ensemble build suspense. Once the tenor saxophone comes in with a solo,
the performer runs through chromatic scales smoothly. The ensemble continues with the melody
leading to a heavy melody held in the trumpets until an alto saxophone comes in and takes the
melody away. The rest of the ensemble holds the countermelody that compliments the alto
saxophone well. The alto saxophone passes the melody to the piano where then it was passed to a
trombone. This piece took one melody and bounces it all around the ensemble to show off different
performers abilities with their instruments. The second piece, Makin' Whoopee, by Gus Kahn and
Walter Donaldson was written in 1928. This piece was made famous by Eddie Cantor. This piece
adds suspense in the low brass with a repeating melody in the woodwinds. A trombone comes out in
a solo with a slow tempo and a low dynamic making the sound very legato. By placing a mute in a
trumpet this piece of music ended with an edgy

over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon fades out
with a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the trumpet,

The Invention Of The Modern World
In almost every scientific discipline, complex, specialised instrumentation has been considered
important, if not integral to scientific development. As the scientific developed and professionalised,
instrumentation integrated yet further into the social routine of formal laboratory work and,
arguably, became endemic within the fabric of everyday late industrial life1. This state of affairs has
persisted since at least the late nineteenth century2. In some cases, instrumentation has almost
subsumed the individual scientist within historical narrative. It is impossible to imagine classic
depictions of the great 'myth ' of Galileo without the obligatory appearance of at least one of his
telescopes3, or a sketch of Newton without his refracting prism. Celebration of material apparatus
has been an enduring theme, particularly in more poplar depictions of the "process" of scientific
progress. Today, the seemingly incomprehensibly complex microscope or (now orbital) telescope
are still instantly recognisable, as visual shorthand for the sharpest points within the material
armoury of the scientist. It is therefore undeniable that from the genesis of Western modernity in the
sixteenth century there has been a near obsession with developing, enhancing and portraying devices
of observation, measurement and quantification. Yet the literary examination and incorporation of
scientific instruments into narrative and displays of physical heritage has been a convoluted and (at
times)

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally was not as excited about this piece as I hoped. I like louder and more exciting music that changes from soft to loud and has a more upbeat tempo. The second piece preformed was, "Sedona" by Steven Reineke. I really like this piece a lot. It reminds me of Christmas and happy times. I like how in the beginning the piece starts off softer, but you can still hear all the different instruments playing their part. The tone of the flutes is very beautiful to listen to and I really enjoyed how the piece slowed down to really enhance that sound. Overall, I really enjoyed this piece and it was very well played. The next piece played was, "Salvation is created" by Pavel Tschesnokoff and Bruce Houseknecht. This piece starts off soft but then you hear the Timpani which brings in a louder sound to the piece. This piece has a very slow tempo which was hard for me to keep my focus on. When I listen to this piece and I hear the Timpani, I think of something exciting happening and then it goes back to being normal again. Overall, I had a harder time concentrating but I didn't mind it. The next piece played was, "Kentucky 1800" by Clare Grundman. This piece started off with a louder sound ... Family, friends, and jazz lovers nearly filled the Anne R. Belk Theater to watch and listen to the performance directed by Dr. Will Campbell, with special guest Derrick Gardner. Gardner is a highly accomplished jazz trumpet player, who has traveled the world playing jazz music. The Ensemble member are; Bryce Harris, Jonathan Carroll, Cody Belton, Garrett Brown and Bryan Patterson on the saxophone, Richard Hall, Casey Blackwelder, Wesley Taylor, Liam McMahon and Cameron Francis on the trumpet, Nathan Ricer, Patrick Foray, Virginia Crooks and Kyle Barnhardt on the trombone, Dallas Holder on the piano, Brian Gilbert on the guitar, and Colin Ray and Eric Chang on the drums. The Ensemble played seven songs, and four of those were played with Gardner. The songs were performed in this order "A Pair of Aces," "You Must Believe in Spring," "Count Me In," "Big Dipper," "Footprints," "Just a Touch" and "Lil' Fawdy." All of the songs were performed exceptionally well, out of the seven these two were my favorite. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This song had a nice ballad sound to it. Casey Blackwelder played a wonderfully smooth trumpet solo. There were a few moments where the background music seemed to overpower the solo, but that did not affect the quality of the solo. The next solo was Bryce Harris on the saxophone. The solo was simple, but yet complemented the song extremely well. This song was played second and really caught and kept my ... They had also one Armenian accompanist Leon Thomasian. If I am not mistaken he was alumni of Glendale Community College and had a master degree in music. The first piece of this part was the old music composed by Henry Macini and arranged by Jay Althouse called "The Pink Panther". I like the mood that this music brings with it. I use to play this song on the piano during my childhood. It was very interesting to hear this music with the unique performance of this ensemble. They were imitating the music without a single world and it was awesome because with the variation, tone, accents and temp in their voices and with the gestures and mimics of their body they were bringing to me the feeling of something strange that would happen within every moment and then in the ending there is a culmination of this story with atonal harmony. Then a solo male artist probably a student started singing an acapella the famed song "Lately" by Stevie Wonder. It was a very spectacular performance without any microphone or special equipment for voice–enhancing. I am pretty sure that he had a strong tenor voice with a very artistic behavior. The first part of the concert was dedicated to the jazz ensemble, which presented its ability in both big and small band songs with different instrumentation. The studio orchestra was then introduced for the second half, with the jazz ensemble remaining on stage as they joined them for certain pieces. The first piece played titled "Two of One" was dominated mainly by trumpet and tenor sax. It has a constant bass line, and it's accompanied by piano. The concert lasted approximately one hour and a total of five pieces were performed. The pieces they performed were called, Music of Pieces of Wood, Gainsborough, Seoul Spirit, Zones, and Little Rhumba. The group consisted of five performers, Chris Deviney, Don Liuzzi, Angela Nelson, Phillip O'Banion, and Victor Pablo. The performers used a variety of percussion instruments throughout the concert; however, some of the instruments that were used in most of the pieces were the timpani, marimbas, chimes, cymbals, and bass drums. My general reaction to the concert was that it was very relaxing and enjoyable. I was impressed with the musicians and the way they performed. The musicians were rhythmically together and seemed very prepared for the concert. The visual setup was attracting because the musicians had a variety of instruments displayed, some of which I never seen before. The atmosphere was relaxed yet intense upon the performers, which made me more attentive. The performers seemed to have put a lot of energy into the concert. I ... The first movement is lively and features quick lines between the marimbas, with interruptions from the timpani. The second movement is slow and has more of a harsh sound to it. A jazzy recitative also appears in the middle of this movement, in order to change the dynamics. The last movement is quick and rhythmically active. This movement employs the concepts of melody and harmony, just not in conventional ways. Hearing the glockenspiel and marimbas helped to carry the melody. For a high school band they had very strong beginning, the song was very fast tempo, and lots of bold accents through the piece. The tenor sax was really the star of this piece the band was really following him instead the tenor sax kind of keeping time and beat. The band played about 2 more songs and LCHS Jazz I came on to stage about played another 3 songs as well. One the played was Called "The Chicken arranged by Kris Berg/Alfred James". This songs included a lot of saxophones solos from alto sax to baritone sax. The trumpet also played a big part to for solo, this piece they did lot of crescendos as well as decrescendos. It gave a more bold jazz feeling which I really enjoyed. Last but not least the NMSU jazz I came about on the stage to finish out the concert. They had four songs to play instead of three like the other bands. They started off with "Cell Talk composed by Sammy Nestico". This piece was a calmer piece like a modern typical jazz piece. • 14. Concert Ethnography Concert Ethnography: Vijay Iyer Sixtet The performance by the Vijay Iyer Sextet on March 7 at Memorial Hall reveals a deeper connection between jazz and the public's interest in evocative tones. Vijay Iyer is a Grammy–nominated jazz composer and pianist. He is the main composer for the sextet and is seen as the unspoken leader. His sextet is made up of five of his other closest friends, who are all composers and musicians as well. The music this group performs is categorized as improvisational jazz. However, the music also includes different styles of music from other genres. By playing music that encompasses several different genres, the Vijay Iyer Sextet is able to appeal to the demographic of people who are older and listen to the nostalgic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The instrumentation of the show included a piano, bass, drums, saxophone, trumpet, fugal horn, and soundboard. The use of popular jazz instruments further reveals the performer's intention to give the audience a taste of the sentimental, antique tones of jazz music. As the instrumentation reveals the genre of the music being performed, the stage for the show was set up in a way that highlighted the artists performing solos during the improvisational pieces. For example, the use of lights played a large role in visually isolating the soloists. The lights used during the show only illuminated the performers that were located upstage, while there were no lights used to illuminate downstage. Thus, as performers were not playing in the piece they would move downstage into the darkness. This would cause the focus of the audience to shift to the other performers that were still playing. The intentional movement of the artists downstage reveals the artist's intent to highlight each individual instrument in the sextet and the improvisational skills of the artist playing them. Also, the visual depiction of an artist emerging from the shadows located downstage and playing prompted the audience to clap. The clapping was also prompted after a musician finishes the personal solo improvisational piece within a song. The clapping from the audience when an instrument ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Gator Tail Concert Report Sample On September 12th, Gator Tail, a jazz band consisting of faculty members, performed at Kimbrough Hall. This concert was the first in a series of WSU Faculty Artist concerts that are being held throughout the year. Gator Tail is a jazz band, composed of four faculty members, with both blues and funk influences, giving it a more modern sound. One unique aspect of the band was the use of a Hammond organ. Organs are not typically seen in jazz bands, and Gator Tail's unique sound comes from this instrument. During the concert, there were many solo parts played by all the instruments. For example, Greg Yasinitsky, the saxophonist, would often have solo parts during a song, and one of the other instruments would respond with another solo part, exemplifying the "call and response" technique. The concert was completely made up of original compositions written by the members of the band. While each composition was written by members, each song had their own individual sound and style, making the music interesting to listen to. One composition, Undercurrent composed by Brad Ard, was heavily influenced by Norwegian jazz, giving it a unique sound that made it stand out from the other compositions. The audience enjoyed the concert, and I personally enjoyed how each composition had a story to go with it. • 18. Essay about Latin jazz orchestra If I were to use one word to describe the "Afro–Latin Jazz Orchestra" that word would be astonishing. At first, hearing that I was required to attend a Jazz concert I was completely turned off. I am very closed minded and automatically thought to myself that the kind of music would be dreadful. That is not the case anymore. This genre of music is amusing and very pleasing to the ears. The band members are some of the most talented musicians that I ever saw or heard. Standing room tickets were sold out when we arrived at Mc Carter Theater. For ten dollars we purchased box seats right near the stage. My friend Kevin and I were thrilled with our seats which allowed the beat view of the whole stage. The theater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They would then stand up and take a bow. The female member, Erica von Kleist, was very good at the alto saxophone. I also liked Mario Rivera who played the tenor saxophone. The soloists' that would perform during each song would stand when it was time for there solo. My favorite song of the night was entitled "Wild Jungle". Before the song Arturo gave us a brief introduction on what to expect. He mentioned a saxophone duo solo between Mario Rivera and one of his fellow band members that he taught. Arturo referred to the solo as "the master vs. the apprentice." When the solo began my jaw dropped. It was so fast and lovely to listen too. Both musicians went back and forth playing. I could not tell who was a better saxophone player. Mario Rivera must have taught his student really well because they were both remarkable. In this song there was also a bongo solo that really caught my attention. The musician played so fast and kept a perfect beat. Another song that I enjoyed was entitled "Humility". There was also some mild humor in the introduction to this song. The trumpet soloist took off Mario Rivera's jacket and put it on creating laughter when Arturo said it's a good look for him. I too found his outfit rather funny. He was wearing leather pants, and chain wallet, and a nice button down shirt. He stood in the front of the stage for about 3 minutes until it ... • 20. My First College Concert And First Jazz Concert Of My Life On Tuesday, September 26, 2017, I attended my first college concert and first jazz concert of my life. I attended a jazz combos concert with five different ensembles. The concert consisted of both undergraduate and graduate students. The concert was performed in Russell Hall in Bengtson Auditorium. Bengtson Auditorium is a lovely auditorium that allows the sound and or music to flow throughout the entire room. The five ensembles played anything from two to three pieces each giving you a better idea of their style of music rather than what one single piece would have been able to tell you. Throughout all five ensembles there were several solos including: saxophone, trumpet, trombone and a guitar solo. The solos were rather interesting to listen to as a large number of the pieces that were played throughout the concert were originals. The pieces all had their own flow, a person could notice a number of the pieces had a lot more minor parts, while others seemed to be played entirely as in the major. The pieces really made me feel like I wanted to get up and move, they usually had a quick and upbeat pace that made me excited and wanting to hear more of what was to come. The rhythm of a majority of the pieces pulled me in so that I could truly listen to the pieces as they changed and get a better understanding of what I was listening to rather than just hearing the piece. Overall there really was not a piece that would have been unenjoyable for anyone in attendance. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Descriptive Essay About A Concert I enjoy listening to a variety of all kinds of music. However, interestingly, through whole my life, I have never attended many classical concerts before; especially classical saxophone ones. Compared to all the other concerts that I have gone to, the saxophone studio recital was a definite change in atmosphere. The Dana Concert Series presented the YSU saxophone studio recital in the Butler Institute of American Art. The students of Dr. James C. Umble performed at 12:15 in the prepossessing building. The room filled with many loved ones, students, faculty, and bystanders. Everyone remained very quiet waiting for the show to begin as the performers warmed up for a little while off to the side of the stage. Four performers walked onto the stage getting in their ready positions. A gentleman sitting on the opposite side of the walkway up in the front seats starting clapping loudly. One of the performers had looked over, and waved their hand and mouthed them to stop kindly. It was an awkward, yet funny situation because I believe it was a family member. The performers were Christie Hrdlicka, soprano saxophone, Anthony Bonamase, alto saxophone, Matthew Eustace, tenor saxophone, and Jake Jeges, baritone saxophone. The performers then walked to their ready positions and the audience began to clap. They had remained standing, which was odd to me because any instrumental concerts I have attended they always sat down. The music stands stood as tall as the person in front of them. ... • 28. Double Bass Research Paper The double bass is the largest and deepest sounding of the stringed instruments in the viol family, although scholars sometimes argue about its true lineage. This instrument is prevalent in many genres like jazz, blue grass, and rock and roll. There is also a science behind its strings and the melodious sound that they make. The history of the double bass goes back as early as 1493 when people started noting that there were viols that were as big as humans. The first illustration of the instrument is found in 1516. Historians thought that it would be more important to find the earliest form of tuning using either forths or third– fourth tuning. The term third– fourth tuning is named by Praetorius that was used for a six–string instrument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many six–stringed instruments were lighter that later became the modern double bass. There were very few five–stringed basses in the 17th century. Leopold Mozart had noted that there were some very intricate pieces for concertos, trios and solos that were made specifically for these less popular pieces. These models consisted of notes like F1–A1–D–F#–B. In the early 1609, Adriano Banchieri made an early bass that had six strings D1–G1–C–E–A–d, but in the next century, it was overpowered by a three stringed bass that contained either A1–D2–G2 or G1–D2–G2 and also had no frets. This was on of the first symphony bass models that lasted up until the 1920s. At that time E1 was added and made it easier to play lower notes instead of transposing them up an octave. The double bass with its four strings has a range of pitches. It is tuned in fourths so its basic strings are E1–A1–D2–G2. Its pitches start as low as 41.2 Hz and go as high as 98 Hz. It gains these pitches by putting tension on the strings. The large strings have a higher mass and stiffness that also help achieve this set of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The musicians playing were: Jerald Shynett on trombone, Andy Whittington on piano, Natalie Boeyink on bass, Justin Hoke on guitar and Michael D'Angelo on drums. There were two special guests playing with this ensemble: Lynn Grissett on trumpet and Ryan Mulder on saxophone (joined them on stage for only a few select pieces). Upon walking in to the theater the stage was set with the piano on stage left the drums on stage right and the lighting was set to colors of blue and purple. At 7:31 the auditorium lights were turned down and 6 musicians walk on stage and take their places. The first song played was "Hope Street" written by Tom Harrell. The piece was started off with Jerald snapping his fingers to a quick beat and then the Trumpet (Lynn) starts with a loud entrance. The other musicians join in and copy his notes as he plays. When the trumpet hits the high notes he trills the note as he holds it before dropping back down in PITCH to match the rest of the instruments. The bass, drums, and guitar carry the beat and the trumpet and trombone take turns playing in a sort of solo. As the trumpet and trombone fall back into rhythm with the other instruments the tempo becomes quick and the guitar take the lead in the piece. "A musical instrument is a device created or adapted to make musical sounds (Oxford dictionary (British & World English))." Music dates back to many years and even before electrical instruments humans alway found a way to create sound. Whether it was by clapping, singing or humming people alway created ways to create sound. Although not a proven fact, I strongly believe music is a way to connect oneself emotionally. The military band family consist of the Soprillo, Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass, Contrabass and the subcontrabass (also known as the Tubax) ("Saxophone"). Italian Piano Research Paper Two types of stringed keyboard instrument were available to the household or court musician from the 16th century to the middle of the 18th: the harpsichord and its near relations, the spinet and virginal; and the clavichord. In the harpsichord family the string is plucked by a small plectrum, originally of quill. The variety of sound from these plucked instruments is achieved not primarily by finger pressure, but more subtly by phrasing and articulation. Variety of tonal color can be obtained, on a harpsichord by judicious choice of registration. The harpsichord was used both for solo performance and accompanying in chamber groups and in larger ensembles of the period. It typically had two sets of strings per key, tuned either to the same pitch or with one set sounding an octave higher (a 4' register). The registers were controlled by hand stops above the keyboard. Whistle: The physiology of the whistle register is the most poorly understood of the vocal registers. It is known that when producing pitches in this register vibration occurs only in some anterior portion of the vocal folds. This shorter vibrating length naturally allows for easier production of high pitches. The physiological process that causes this is not currently known. Though the whistle register is most commonly used to produce pitches above E6, it can be used to produce lower pitches. By the physiological definition just detailed, it is a configuration of the vocal folds and not a range of pitches. There is, however, no universally agreed upon scheme for classifying vocal registers, so it is common to see other definitions. See the article on vocal registration for a discussion. [edit] In the European classical music, the whistle register is only rarely called for. When it is, it is exclusively used by coloratura sopranos to produce pitches above C6. Probably the most well– known example of the whistle register in European classical music is the aria "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" from the opera Die Zauberflöte; it calls for several pitches above C6, up to F6. Trombones exist in several ensembles including jazz, big band, orchestra, ska and even rock bands. An early ancestor of the trombone is an instrument called a sacbut. It first appeared in early Renaissance music and came in four versions in order from highest to lowest –– alto, tenor, bass and great bass. Since the trombone plays in the bass clef and in the lower part of the brass family range, it is considered a low–brass instrument. Experiencing the Trumpet Essay He who is a true trumpeter ... can both sound across a great distance out in the open air, and also moderate with a pleasing voice in the princely chamber when the occasion arises' –The Gentleman's Journal of January 1692 The trumpet is an aerophone, and it produces sound by passing a airstream "through the player's vibrating lips, so gaining intermittent access to the air column which is to be made to vibrate" (14, par. 1). Present–day trumpets are made of brass, and can play a very wide range of registers through the use of the instrument's valves or the musician's 'lipping' technique to modulate the pitch of the trumpet. The ancestor to the modern trumpet is the Roman tuba, a long metal trumpet with a wide 'J'–shaped end. The Roman tube was played with a bone mouthpiece, and was used for military signalling (14, par. 8). Despite the atrocities committed during the third crusade from 1189–1192, useful methods of artistic metalworking were reverse–engineered from Muslim prototypes. These methods, along with the recent discovery of many copper and silver mines in Germany, and "development of water–powered rolling mills and forge hammers" (13, 350) allowed the construction of high quality brass and silver trumpets which produced their familiar "loud and bright sonority" (13, 350). The buisine, sometimes called the herald's trumpet, was created using the new metalworking technologies described above. The buisine was a straight trumpet at 150cm in length with a belled flare at the end (7, 26). Peter Downey explains that in it's early life, the buisine was used for signaling military commands. Downey states that the buisine was not seen in a music performance until the Ars Nova period when it "began to find a place in the performance of dance music at the courts" (26). The University Repertoire Ensembles included the Contemporary Ensemble (CE), the Hard Bop Ensemble (HBE), and the Brazilian Ensemble (BE). The CE performed the songs, "Have You Heard," "Sail Away," and "Got A Match," while the HBE performed, "Nica's Dream," "The Sidewinder," "Wisper Not," and "The Jody Grind." In addition to that, the BE performed, "Lamentos," "Pra machucar meu coração," and "A rã." With that, the musicians in the CE included Jake Daniels, Taylor Nelson, Dahkota Bungcayao, Jonny Simpson, Stuart Wicke, Kiko Sebrian, Matt Griffin, and the instruments played were the saxophone, guitar, second guitar, piano, bass, drums, and drums and percussion respectively. In the HBE, the performers were Larry Cooper, Noah Reed, Troy Burchett and Mark McLean, Will Kinman, and Fiona Palensky, and the instruments they played included vocals, alto saxophone, guitar, bass, and the drums respectively. Lastly, in the BE, the players were Nala Johnson, Travis Huff, Joe Gomez, Carson Litteral, Pauline Ottaviano, Sam Broussard, and their corresponding instruments were vocals, the tenor saxophone, the guitar, the piano, the bass, and the drums respectively. Of the three ensembles, I enjoyed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. Compare And Contrast Bb And C Trumpets The two most common types of trumpets are Bb and C trumpets. Each trumpet has characteristics that make it useful in different contexts. The C trumpet has a bright and penetrating sound, while the Bb trumpet has a mellow, relaxed sound. The more commonly used instrument is the Bb trumpet, but all professional trumpet players play the C trumpet as well. Changing between instruments poses nominal problems since the basic finger combinations stay the same. Timbre The C trumpet has a brighter sound and is more agile than the Bb trumpet. The Bb trumpet, characterized by its mellow sound, provides a darker pitch. Fanfares more commonly use Bb trumpets, while slow lyrical passages fit the C trumpet. The Bb trumpet plays with better intonation, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 59. Music Class: A Report on Concerts Attended During the Class On Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. two abnds at San Jose State University had their first concert of the spring 2014 and directed by Dahveed Behroozi, Jason Lewis, and John Shifflett. This conert divided and performed in two parts: Part 1:The Bjlort Jazz Combo, and Part 2: The Free Lunch Jazz Sextet. Those program allowed me to experience the sound of the Jazz music. The music told the audience about the story of music by the tempo and pattens. My favorite performer in this concert is Veno Bender. He played the electric bass guitar in this concert, and he appeared most of the solo in part 1. Although I was impressed by the bass and the guitar solo in the first part, part 2 made a more lasting impression on me. The ambiance of the performance was very professional yet casual. The concert started with Fisrt Rain and Jean Marie. They combined those pieces and began slowly as the bass was building the parttern of the music. As the passion of this piece heated up at first, the mood suddenly became faster as the pattern of this piece felt like Blues with guitar solo. I was stock by the sound of guitar because the guitar was a wireless guitar. I could not imagine the price of his guitar because he tuned his guitar as the sound of piano without sound effect pedal. After the guitar solo, bass started its' solo part. This part was one of my personal favorites because I like the partnership of the bass and the drums of the song. The beat of the drum bass was so deep, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. The Concert Hall At Lincoln Center This was my first time to attend the music concert, and I am very enjoyed both of them. The first one I went was in the David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. And the second one I went was Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center. Compare with each music hall, I like the David Geffen Hall better not just because it's big and having many seats, it is first buildings completed on the Lincoln Center site and home to one of its first resident organization. The New York Philharmonic is the oldest symphony orchestra in the U.S. Today. I registered for the student rush tickets, so many of the music tickets are just $16, which sounds nice to me and to have enjoyed more and more music concerts. Merkin Concert Hall is much smaller than the David Geffen Hall. However, I like their music event because most of them either having the lower price or free shows. I had arrived 15 minutes before the Orchestra concert began. When I found my seats, I took a look around. Most of the people dressed casually. However, there were still having server students who like me had a notebook and a pen in the hand trying to take notes. My seat was a little far away from the stage, so I was unable to see how many musicians and what kinds of music instruments they play. Therefore, I had ideas which I took out the phone and tried to take pictures. However, on the stage, it was "please turn off your cell phone and electronic devices." So I immediately put my phone back into the bag. This was happening before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Brent Wallarab's Jazz Ensemble Performance I attended the Brent Wallarab's Jazz Ensemble's performance on March 9th located at the Musical Arts Center at Indiana University Bloomington. It started at 8pm and ended around 9:10pm. Since it is a jazz ensemble, there are lots of instruments involve into the music. As always, piano, bass, guitar and drums serve for the rhythm section, but for some particular songs, vibraphone also serves as the rhythm keeper too. For the woodwind part, there are two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones, one baritone saxophone and one flute. For the brass part, there are five trumpets and four trombones (one of the trombones is a bass trombone). The atmosphere and the environment were all great because there was a jazz combo's performance right before the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The title is written in Spanish, Concerto por Trombonito, and it basically means the concert for trombone. The whole song features the bass trombone, and the bass trombonist, Brennan Johns, led the whole piece, and he did an amazing job. The composer is Benjamin Dean Taylor, and he conducted this piece as well. It started with really low timbre and created a marching feeling. It captured the European marching's style and had a dark and medieval feeling. The trumpeters all used mutes, and there were call–and–response between the trumpets and the bass trombone. After a while, it suddenly turned into Latin jazz's feeling. The first soloist is the alto saxophonist, Inigo Galdeano Lasheras, and he climbed up a lot and had a very bright timbre. Followed by the electric bass, which is played by Jacob Jezioro. He played double bass for the rest of the program but only electric bass for this solo. There were also many call–and–response between the bass trombone and the rest of the ensemble throughout the whole piece. The bass trombonist had a very long improvisation, and he used tailgating to create all kinds of sounds and timbres. He played really low notes at the beginning and built up step by step. There was a particular part that he tried to humanize the sounds, and he did it without using the mutes! He is just fantastic. After his improvisation, the song turned back to the marching feeling that we heard at the very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Analysis Of Maple Leaf Rag JOPLIN: MAPLE LEAF RAG Scott Joplin was acknowledged, as "king of ragtime" in (1868–1917) he was a composer and pianist whose father had been a slave. Joplin was trained in classical music. Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" was published in 1899 with a March Tempo. You can hear strong, steady chords in left–hand keeps the march beat going throughout the piece, while the right–hand plays a lively, syncopated melody against this steady beat. The sections are repeated in the usual pattern. The melody begins higher and moves down. The section is repeated. The opening section is played. The key is change too; there is a change in the right hand rhythmic; and left–hand leaps. Once again the section is repeated. Then it returns to the original key; strong final cadence and the section are repeated as the music comes to end. I feel like this piece, he wanted to wow his audience. The impressive tempo and difficulty of the piece were his way of showing that ragtime was as legitimate as any other genre, regardless of its origins. Maple Leaf Rag is playful, fun, and yet oddly mature. The use of the lower notes against the high notes creates a contrast that feels like an adult borrowing childhood for a few moments. It makes me feel young again, and the fast–paced, quirky notes are a welcome break from the normal, more sober piano recital. I like this. This is why I say to people, tunes of the old days really do show intuition and good old–fashioned wisdom on how to play tunes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMAtL7n_–rc ARMSTRONG: HOTTER THAN THAT Date: 1927 style New Orleans jazz form: 32–bar popular song Personnel is Louis Armstrong, trumpet; Kid Ory, trombone; Johnny Dodds, clarinet; Lil Armstrong, piano; Lonnie Johnson, guitar. The music begins with the whole band playing the New Orleans–style polyphony. The trombone plays simple single–note figures, while the clarinet is distantly in the background. Then a trumpet solo you hear the confident rhythm and occasional chatter. Then there's a break the background drops out, and then the trumpet rips to a high note. The trumpet improvises broken up chord and shakes on long notes. There is another break the clarinet plays a solo during the break. The clarinet plays solo same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Fall Concert Analysis On November 16th, 2017 I attended the Riverview High School Kiltie Band's Fall Concert at Riverview High School at 7:00pm and there were about 200 people in attendance. The Wind Ensemble started by playing First Suite in E Flat for Military Band, Op. 28, No.1 by British Composer Gustav Holst. The composition was first premiered in 1920 at the Royal Military School of Music, but the manuscript was first completed in 1909. This composition was Holst's first for a military band. The First Suite has three movements, each with their own form and character. Movement 1 is called "Chaconne". The tempo is allegro moderato. The movement is in ¾ time with and eight–bar melody initiated by low brass. The melody repeats 16 times throughout "Chaconne". The brass and percussion outline the theme and the whole passage is marked brilliante. There are combinations of solo instruments including a solo horn, duet between flute and oboe, and a solo alto saxophone. The section eventually develops into a minor key. Movement 2: "Intermezzo" has a vivace tempo, which is lively and fast. All of this movement is dedicated to a rhythmic oboe, clarinet and cornet solo. The movement is light in character and an instrument called the euphonium brings us back to the first theme. The second theme is then played in a major key. Movement 3: "March" is played at a march tempo, which is played at a consistent and regular rhythm for people to march to. This movement opens with a bass drum solo that is very ... What Is The Difference Between The Trombone And The Tua A lot of people who don't really know much about instruments say that all instruments look the same, especially the trombone and the tuba. Of course, some people who have brains know that they are very different from each other, or are they? For the few people that are still reading this and are actually wondering what the heck is the difference between the trombone and the tuba then prepare. First, the history of the two instruments goes back centuries, and although the two are somewhat related, the variations that they are available in suggesting otherwise. The trombone, for example, can come in a abundance of different shapes and sizes, though they typically come in five sizes. The trombone's history tells a tale of mystery. Early orchestras ... • 71. Analysis Of Jazz Ensemble Concert On October 26, 2017, in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall at the University of South Alabama, there was Jazz Ensemble Concert directed by Tracy Heavner. The night was filled with the rhythmic groove of jazz. By writing this report I hope to show you, the reader, a new perspective of Jazz Music. The first piece, Lady Bird, by Tadd Dameron was written in 1939. The Jazz Ensemble began the piece by putting their full hearts in it. By using repetition of the melody in the saxophones and clarinets it helps the ensemble build suspense. Once the tenor saxophone comes in with a solo, the performer runs through chromatic scales smoothly. The ensemble continues with the melody leading to a heavy melody held in the trumpets until an alto saxophone comes in and takes the melody away. The rest of the ensemble holds the countermelody that compliments the alto saxophone well. The alto saxophone passes the melody to the piano where then it was passed to a trombone. This piece took one melody and bounces it all around the ensemble to show off different performers abilities with their instruments. The second piece, Makin' Whoopee, by Gus Kahn and Walter Donaldson was written in 1928. This piece was made famous by Eddie Cantor. This piece adds suspense in the low brass with a repeating melody in the woodwinds. A trombone comes out in a solo with a slow tempo and a low dynamic making the sound very legato. By placing a mute in a trumpet this piece of music ended with an edgy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Cultural Identity: A Large Part Of My Culture People all around the world have objects and ideas that make them who they are. This can include the country they are from, their favorite sport, or even their favorite childhood toy. These objects can define where someone comes from and what their cultural background is. Items that represent my cultural identity are my computer, the American flag, my phone, basketball shoes, and my saxophone. All of these items not represent who I am, they show what I have done in my life. The American flag shows the country I am from, which is a large part of my culture. My phone shows the social part of my culture, whether it be through texting or social media. Basketball shoes were a big part of my culture in middle school, but are not as evident ... I am constantly checking to see not only what people are talking about, I can look at the news and really see everything that is happening in the world. I have been using my phone less lately, the principal reason being that there is not a large variety of tasks my phone does uniquely. Many of the processes that my phone does can be replicated on my computer more reliably. Fifth grade is when my parents bought me my first phone for Christmas. It was the iPhone 4S, which in retrospect, a fifth grader should not have had at the time. I took good care of that phone, never damaging or cracking the device. This was especially a feat because both sides of the phone were glass and I had never invested in a case for the device. I upgraded to the iPhone 5C towards the end of seventh grade. I took good care of my phone for two years until it slid out of my pocket in science class. The screen had cracked, but the device was still usable. • 75. A Cord Of Three Strands Analysis The Faculty Jazz Ensemble was on Monday, November 9 in the Westbrook Music Hall. The Performers included Peter Bouffard on guitar, Paul Haar on saxophone, Dave Hall on drums, Tom Larson on piano, Hans Sturm on bass, and Darryl White on trumpet. The first piece was A Cord of Three Strands composed by Darryl White. It was in a minor mode and was in triple meter. The piece started off with a calm piano dynamic and homophonic texture with the trumpet playing the melody over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon fades out with a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the trumpet, again with a homophonic texture. The piece reminds me of a calm pouring rain. When the saxophone and trumpet are included, the rain picks up and when it is just the drums, bass, and piano it is like a slight drizzle of rain. The piece fizzles out in the end with a clam cadence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piece starts of with a light sound and homophonic texture. The bass, piano, saxophone, and trumpet are on the melody with the drums countering underneath. Soon, the saxophone comes in with a solo over the rest of the instruments. This solo is flowy and lingering. The melody seems to be conjunct. I envisioned a person ice skating, gliding around on the ice without tripping or stumbling. As the saxophone settles out, there is a decrescendo. There is a combination between a homophonic texture of saxophone and trumpet over bass, drums, and piano and polyphonic textures of the bass, piano, and drums playing various different melodies. This created a great deal of tension with made for a not so tonal rhythm. In this part, the ice skater is doing a lot of starting and stopping, stumbling. • 79. The Invention Of The Modern World In almost every scientific discipline, complex, specialised instrumentation has been considered important, if not integral to scientific development. As the scientific developed and professionalised, instrumentation integrated yet further into the social routine of formal laboratory work and, arguably, became endemic within the fabric of everyday late industrial life1. This state of affairs has persisted since at least the late nineteenth century2. In some cases, instrumentation has almost subsumed the individual scientist within historical narrative. It is impossible to imagine classic depictions of the great 'myth ' of Galileo without the obligatory appearance of at least one of his telescopes3, or a sketch of Newton without his refracting prism. Celebration of material apparatus has been an enduring theme, particularly in more poplar depictions of the "process" of scientific progress. Today, the seemingly incomprehensibly complex microscope or (now orbital) telescope are still instantly recognisable, as visual shorthand for the sharpest points within the material armoury of the scientist. It is therefore undeniable that from the genesis of Western modernity in the sixteenth century there has been a near obsession with developing, enhancing and portraying devices of observation, measurement and quantification. Yet the literary examination and incorporation of scientific instruments into narrative and displays of physical heritage has been a convoluted and (at times) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
