Saul Hudson
Saul Hudson was born to an African American mother and British father in London on July 23, 1965
and even though he was born in London he was raised for most of his life in Los Angeles,
California.
Saul was given the nickname "Slash", by a family friend because he was very energetic and
constantly in motion growing up. He is now known as slash by everyone, and he says that the only
two people that call him by his first real name are, his mom and his doctor.
Slash learned to play the guitar as a teenager with Robert Wolin, a teacher at Fairfax Music School
but he soon lost interest in schoolwork and took up BMX racing, later he became more interested in
playing the guitar and gave up his biking.
In 1981, he joined his first band, known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slash has played solos with a couple of famous artists, such as Michael Jackson in his Billy Jean
concert. In 1985 he joined Guns N' Roses, and played with them until 1996 but is coming to
perform with them this year in El Paso.
Velvet Revolver, was another band he played in.
Hollywood Rose is another band he played guitar with, which also included Axl Rose and Izzy
Stradlin. But overall his first band was the Tidus Sloan band. Slash always uses Gibson Les Paul
guitars of various colors, with very few exceptions, his first guitar was a 1970/80s Memphis Les
Paul, he started moving on to funky looking guitars such as the 1978/79 B.C. Rich Mockingbird and
the B.C. Rich Warlock, after using a couple of non–Gibson guitars he moved on and used for the
most part, Gibson guitars, his coolest one to me would be the 1967 Gibson EDS–1275 which looks
like two guitars in one, he owns two of these I believe. Slash

Michelle Dbq Essay
It is understood that among different mediums of art the narrative voices of male characters
generally express and enthusiastic response over new affectionate emotions towards another female
character. The song "Michelle" was recorded in November of 1965 and released to the public the
following month written and performed by John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney, once performed
by Sir Paul McCartney at the White House for the entertainment of President Barack Obama and
first lady Michelle Obama. The song describes the story of a man who loves a woman named
Michelle, but tragically cannot fully express his love, as it suggests that the woman does not speak
English, so the narrator learns several words of her language to attempt to communicate his ... Show

Considering both instances in the two sources, the commentary they make of the male's initial
emotional response to romantic emotion evoked by a strong attraction to a female suggests a largely
verbal and dramaticized response, often toward appearance first. In the song "Michelle," the narrator
relies only verbal expression. He sings, "Sont les mots qui vont très bien ensemble... I will say the
only words I know that you'll understand" (Doc. 1). This shows that the narrator makes extra effort
to verbally communicate with the woman, suggesting he does this because he feels he must, as he
sees no other ways of communication. Romeo, in Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet,
is dramatic in his portrayal of Juliet. He declares, "O, she doth teaches the torches to burn bright!"
(Romeo and Juliet. 1.5.44). This demonstrates his dramaticity through the use of metaphor, as Juliet
does not teach torches to emit light, but rather she appears to emit more light than a torch in
Romeo's perspective, which is an overstatement in this case. Romeo also makes much commentary
on Juliet's appearance. He exclaims, "Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!"

Jean Luc Godard 's ' Le Mepris '
Le Mépris is a film distinct in Jean–Luc Godard's career, for many reasons: amongst others, it was
his first foray into a more big–budget, large scale production. Ironically – or perhaps purposefully –
one of the overarching themes explored within Le Mépris' is maintaining artistic integrity, whilst
attaining commercial success. Nowhere is this better explored than the famous middle sequence:
their extended argument indoors. I aim to analyse this scene's depiction as not only a simple
argument between tumultuous lovers, but as it's symbolic exploration of their decaying relationship
as a whole, encompassing many of the overarching themes of 'Le Mépris' – love, ennui, and of
course, contempt.
As soon as they step into their home, the door ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps this is really a subversive way to express the emptiness consuming their relationship.
Significant too at the beginning of this scene, is the way the camera follows Lucille and Paul. The
majority of the time they are framed in shots alone, only in passing does the frame capture them
both. Though they are inhabiting the same space, the choice to capture them separately is very
deliberate, highlighting the isolation mounting within their relationship as they start to grow apart;
tying into the existential theme that eventually, we all die alone. The vehicle of a failing relationship
to depict this existential dread is an apt choice; nowhere more is isolation emphasized than in
contrast of it's antithesis: once romantic love, the communion of two souls.
Paul seems engrossed with his letters, pacing around the apartment staring at them, never really
lifting his eyes to properly meet his wife's gaze. The letters are symbolic of his work – his priorities
now lie there, and not his wife. For a second, Lucille seems to snap from a sullen mood to a more
playful one, and perhaps in a bid to grasp her husband's attention once more, she asks him to guess
what she bought today. When he asks what, and does not get an immediate answer, he reacts with
irritation instead of

Modern Architecture Essays
ESSAY 1
Le Corbusier and Mies van de Rohe were two architects influenced by the contemporary
movements of their time period. Le Corbusier's architectural ideology was derived from the multiple
techniques and styles he had previously encountered through study. His early designs were
expressive of the "youth style" which was introduced to him by his instructor, L'Eplattenier. New
technologies, however, began to influence his philosophies. Le Corbusier saw potential in concrete
building systems and desired to experiment with its structural abilities through his designs. The
modern industry, as well as the political disorder which came about following the First World War,
motivated his innovative design philosophies which appeared in ... Show more content on

Style, he described, was defined by the time period in which architects practiced like building
techniques and philosophies. Michael Speaks would have attributed the lack of 'new' in the
architecture of Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier's era to cohesion to general manifestoes
produce outside their time period. Architects from later time periods cannot pursue the same
manifesto because technological advances in design must be considered. His arguments reveal that
following a general manifesto from start to finish will produce an unchanging architecture. Michael
Speaks wrote, "I do not believe we need another manifesto in architecture, even of the incomplete,
aborted or personal variety. Architecture, it seems has suffered enough from the illusion that
manifestoes matter (except insofar as they stifle creativity) and it is time we found other ways of
developing experimental practices ... Vanguards, with their five points, seven principles and ten
theses for a new architecture, draw a line that leads straight from the manifesto to 'the new.' And
because the completion of this line is best that can be hoped for, there is nothing new about the
'new.'" If architects followed the same lines to solve the same problems, a new architecture could
not be actualized. A separation from the lines between manifesto and solution made way for
discovery of design and methods of creating 'new' architecture. Mies van der Rohe and Le

Use Of Film As A Propaganda Tool
Introduction
Propaganda, can be defined as the capacity of a person to produce and disseminate "attractive" and
reproducible messages that once seeded they will greatly influence human cultures.
The end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century were periods during which propagandistic
activities flourished. The development of mass media along with unprecedented advances in
transportation and communication, due to innovative new technologies that came with industrial
revolution, resulted to the formation of mass audiences for propaganda, in all sectors and for
different purposes. All different media such as print, films, radio and television contributed to this
new era, offering their unique characteristics for exploitation. In this essay, I am going to focus on
the particular use of film as a propaganda tool.
A propaganda film, can take either the form of a documentary film production or a fictional
screenplay that aims at convincing the audience about certain issues. They can be driven by politics,
social conflicts, environmental problems or simply personal incentives. Propagandistic content in
films can be realistic so as to reflect actual problems and/or situations or specifically formed aiming
at misleading large masses of the population on certain matters and alter their perception.
The first acknowledged propaganda film was a series of short silent films, produced during the
Spanish–American war in 1898 by the Vitagraph Studios. Moreover, in 1918, Charlie

How Do Instruments Automatically Achieve A Kind Of...
How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they 've clocked
up a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second–hand guitar;
now, it 's a holy relic. Let 's face it, the vintage instrument market has become VERY silly over the
last 20 years or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with a few
dings, wrinkles and a six figure price tag... But what 's the appeal? How do instruments
automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they 've clocked up a bit of mileage?
Being a little on the vintage side myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop
windows of London 's Tin Pan Alley during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls.
Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right
tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly the Grail
instruments of today 's vintage market – but in those days they would have probably cost around
£275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I never bought a Les Paul back then, settling
instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later when I caught a bad case of jazz and
consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops. What can I say? I was young and
capricious...So when everything began going nuts during the 1990s, I kicked myself for lack of
foresight, but, being a rational chap,

Summary : ' Pawn Stars '
Summary
The T.V. reality show, "Pawn Stars" is about a group of family members that own a pawn shop in
Las Vegas, Nevada. In this episode, "Hot Air Buffoon" Corey, the son/grandson of the shop goes to
see a hot air balloon that he and his friend end up buying. Corey's dad and grandpa don't know how
they are going to resell this balloon at their store. Meanwhile, Rick Harrison deals with different
customers coming into the store wanting to sell metal hand restraints, an old Taylor bottle of
whiskey and a 1970 Les Paul custom guitar. Throughout the show, he tries to bargain and deal with
the customers to buy their antiques. Rick Harrisons plan is to buy for less, and sell for more.

Because of its story line and it is an antique, Harrison and his dad are interested. The customer is
wanting a certain price since he knows it's a unique item. The customer, Harrison and his dad
negotiate back in forth. Harrison and his dad offer $200 and the customer takes it. This shows how
both parties are rewarded. The customer got to sell the item and make a profit, and Harrison is
anxious about having this item in his store.
Meanwhile, Corey and his friend bought an expensive hot air balloon for the store. Harrison and his
dad are angry at his actions because he spent $38,000 on the balloon without talking it over with his
dad and grandpa. Harrison wants Corey to call and undo the trade. At this time the deal is already
done and the previous owner of the balloon has already spent the money Corey gave him, to buy
another. At this point, Harrison and Corey are trying to figure out what they can do to make a profit
with the balloon. In the end, Corey and his friend give rides to customers in the hot air balloon and
charge each person for a ride. This describes a reward and punishment. They are out the money until
someone wants to possibly buy the hot air balloon which shows the punishment. However, they are
able to give customers rides and make some profit while doing so, which describes the reward.
Lastly, a customer wants to sell his custom 1960 Les Paul guitar. Harrison is intrigued with this

Architecture Manifesto Example
Course: ARC 103
Title: Architecture and Sensitivity: A Manifesto for Sustainable Design
This manifesto proposes an approach to sustainable design that I am interested in exploring during
my time studying architecture. The idea of sustainability is a complex one, not without apparent
contradictions. This makes it difficult to define in a wholly satisfactory manner. For the purposes of
this manifesto I will advert to the definition proposed by Jason McLennan who asserts that
sustainable design: "seeks to maximize the quality of the built environment, while minimizing or
eliminating negative impact to the natural environment." I find this definition particularly useful in
the emphasis which it places on quality. By quality, in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Generous architecture offers an approach which puts everyday people at the forefront of the design.
This is an inclusive architecture which does not limit itself only to the client and/or private users of
the building. Nobody is excluded.
An example of this kind of what might be described as "generous" architecture can be found in
Norwegian firm Snøhetta's Oslo Opera House on the waters of the Oslo Fjord, completed in 2007
(Fig. 2).
Fig. 2 Snøhetta, Oslo Opera House, 2007
Snøhetta are concerned with the social dimension of architecture and this design imaginatively
reinterprets the traditional opera houses that "conventionally limit their public spaces to exterior
plazas or grand lobbies, often only accessible during opening hours." What is striking here is that
their Opera House succeeds in giving back to the city a public space. The sloping rooftop becomes a
new public area: a recreation space and viewing platform that you can walk on, sit on, sunbathe on,
even snowboard on. As a result anyone, whether interested in Opera or not, can enjoy the space. The
building has been called "a social democratic monument" by founding partner of Snøhetta, Craig
Dykers – and one can see why. In a recent television interview, Dykers went on to remark:
"There is a sense of being able to place your feet onto the building that gives you a sense of
ownership. At

The Fender Sratocaster Research Paper
The Fender Stratocaster The Fender Stratocaster is one of the most well–known electric guitars
around. It is often used in a variety of genres of music from Blues to Rock music. It has become an
essential piece of equipment for players all around the world. Since the day of its birth in 1954, it
continues to impress everyone who plays one to this day. The versatility has to be one of the most
unique factors of the Fender Strat, there is nothing you cannot customize on this guitar to make it
your own unique axe of sound. Opening with the build of the guitar, its shape is rather distinctive,
consisting of a glossy polyester urethane finish in jet black. The contours on the body make it a

The Fender Stratocaster has always consisted of a three pick–up system to give the guitar a range of
sounds that you do not generally get from other guitars. Pick–ups are electro–magnets that have six
pole magnets with two plastic pieces fit on each end to hold them together. A thin copper wire is
then spun around all six magnets for an average of seven–thousand times. The more spins a pick–up
contains, the more output it holds, giving the player more response when the strings are stricken.
The pick–ups are white with the magnets staggered and poking through the pick–up cover. Each one
is a single coil magnet placed into the pickguard in a certain place or angle. Wherever the pick–up is
positioned, will determine the sound it makes. The neck single coil, being closest to the neck of the
guitar, has more bass in its sound due to it being closer to the center point of where the string spins
and vibrates. The middle single coil being a little further down from the neck, has sound the most
reggae players enjoy the most because it has the perfect balance of bass and treble to get the sound
they desire. Last but not least, the bridge pick–up is the brightest sounding magnet in the guitar. It
being closer to the bridge, gives it more twang and bite compared to the neck and middle single
coils. This is all made possible by Leo Fender's Five–selector switch which allows you to select
each pickup on its own or a blend

Essay about What it means to be human
(I Think Therefore I Am)
"The common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights – for example, the right to
health, to home, to work, to family, to culture – is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic
and fundamental right and the condition of all other personal rights is not defended with maximum
determination." –– Pope John Paul II
What does it mean to be human? Sure, one must have the usual physical features such as fingers,
eyes, arms, hands, feet, etc., but what does it really mean? Must the human be able to speak? To take

Now, in John Gunther's novel, Death Be Not Proud, this type of love is family based. Johnny's love
is strong and death will not tear his family apart. " Nobody else was in the room, and Johnny looked
straight at him. 'Do my parents know this? How shall we break it to them?' Then, some months later,
when he seemed to be getting better, he felt the edge of bone next to the flap in the skull wound, and
looked questioningly and happily at the doctor–– a different doctor–– then attending him. The
doctor was pleased because the bone appeared to be growing back, but with a crying lack of tact he
told Johnny, 'Oh, yes... it's growing... but in the wrong direction, the wrong way.' Johnny controlled
himself and said nothing until the doctor left the room. His face had gone white and he was sick
with sudden worry and harsh disappointment. Then he murmured to me, 'Better not tell Mother it's
growing wrong.'" (Gunther 5). Regardless of Johnny's illness, Johnny manages to love his family
and enjoy life as much as possible.
Third, a human must be able to have, and cope with emotion. In George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion,

regard and intimacy on a heartless guttersnipe.'" (Shaw 435). Here, one may notice that he is

This essentially comes across as the ideal team for promotion.
We can clearly outline the beginning of their strong relationship through the first letter sent by
Corbusier, complementing Hervé:
' 'Not only your remarkable vision of my work makes it more complete, but you have the soul of an
architect and know exactly how to look at architecture. ' ' – Corbusier (Voyatzis, 2015)
This outlines Hervé eye that Corbusier picked up on. His use of 'Soul of an Architect' explores that
connection between the two 'artists' through the understanding of one another by the first glance;
after Hervé photographed 650 of Unité d'Habitation, and sent them to Corbusier, it was the search
that Corbusier waited for, finally finding his photographer who shared and understood what he
needed. It this especial relationship between Corbusier and Hervé that symbolised dependence and
an element of education between two unique individuals.
"The symbiotic relationship between photographers and architects at the time had a lot more
meaning than just the photographers being used for marketing," (Redstone, 2014)

Jane Jacob Research Paper
"The best that can be said of the conception is that it did afford a chance to experiment with some
physical and social planning theories which did not pan out. " This quote reflects Jane Jacob's
philosophical ideas in an attempt to criticize the social housing's design approach and its associated
urban planning in modern era. "The physical and social theories" outlines the urban planning idea of
social housing (Utopian idea) and according to Jane's statement, such experiment of these theories
were deem to be unsuccessful. It is inevitably certain to some extent that a provocative statement
towards modern era social housing approaches would hold true due to the minimal success the plans
brought to the city, such as solving the working class commendations temporarily. Nevertheless, it is
a failure to deliver long–standing social improvements corresponded with the increasing suspicion
of modernism, one cannot simply attribute ill fate to its "innovative physical features" (As Jane said,
the Utopian and Utopia), but should rather considered a range of other elements in the larger aspect
of society: factors such as difficulty of racial integration, problems of financing and management,
lack of bridging between architecture and planning, as well as the increasing preference of suburban
lifestyle from the rising mid class. These problems reflected evidently in some stereotypes of social

The Call To Order By Corbusier
The time between World Wars was a tense and significant point in the history of humanity,
especially for the European continent. France had suffered immensely during the First World War,
and the psyche of the nation was deeply shaken. The result was, for some, a desire for a return to the
comparatively peaceful state felt prior to the War. The "Call to Order" as it became known embodied
this effort. Many artistic movements were abandoned, temporarily or permanently. Such was the
fate of the Futurist movement, which somewhat naively glorified all of the things that had made
World War I so incredibly destructive to the continent, technology, and violence. A resurgence of
classical styled art followed. Just as the populous sought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In mature form, its spatial structure resembled that of synthetic cubism. Generalized as a cultural

Corbusier's architecture he sought to refine the buildings to a perfect standard in with the aim of
benefiting society on whole. Corbusier firmly believed in the power of architecture to effect the
lives of people, in his collection of essays on modern architecture titled Vers une architecture
(Toward[s] an Architecture) Corbusier claims architecture to be "A product of happy peoples and a
thing which in itself produces happy peoples." Through his publication of L'Espirit Nouveau, and
through his works as an architect and artist Corbusier implemented the orderly, rational and logical
aesthetics that he believed would lead towards a better world for his adopted nation of France, and
the world, addressing issues of the time such as housing. Corbusier had grand designs for planned

The Rise Of Post Impressionism
Impressionism was an art movement that started in the mid Nineteenth Century and peaked during
the 1870s. Although Impressionism was also apparent in mediums like music and literature, its most
prominent influence was painting. As it progressed towards Post–Impressionism, it opened up the
art world to stylistic rendering, deviated from realism, and introduced the world to modern and
avant–garde art. This essay will discuss how it managed to do so and specifically how the
movement advanced into Post–Impressionism.
To understand how Impressionism came about, we must first understand how Academic Art rose to
power. Academic Art was introduced in the Renaissance period, Old Masters such as Leonardo and
Michelangelo emphasized the need for painting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Impressionism peaked in 1870– artists such as Cézanne and Seurat started to opt out from
exhibiting altogether, and had produced their own styles. In the eighth and final Impressionist
exhibition, it was suggested that the title 'Impressionist' be dropped as the artists who aligned with
its characteristics were not present, and pieces were judged by its own merit rather than as a group.
Manet's death in 1883 had also signaled the breakup of the Impressionists, being one of the initiators
of the movement. Therefore, the lack of common ideas between the artists led them to work
independently, form new ideas and techniques which led to Post–Impressionism.
In conclusion, Post–Impressionism itself was not a singular style, but was unified through the
rejection of Impressionism and many post–impressionist artists served as inspiration for many
movements to come such as Fauvism, Symbolism, Expressionism and avant–garde art in general.
The inherent limitations and discontent in forms of expression was what drove artists from academic
art into Impressionism. It became the first movement to question and redefine what was acceptable
and considered as art. Similarly, the same was done to progress from Impressionism into Post–
Impressionism. People have realized the need for constant reevaluation and experimentation to
innovate new ideas fitting for the progressive

Art Analysis Of Claude Monet's The Sea At Le Havre
The Sea at Le Havre, painted by Claude Monet in 1868, is a 23 5/8" x 24 3/8" oil on canvas
landscape painting. Monet was a French artist who lived from 1840 to 1926 and was considered to
be an impressionist. A unique quality of Monet was unblended "sloppy" brushstrokes combined with
a use of precise choice of color, as seen clearly in The Sea at Le Havre. Because of his vigorous and
richly textured painting style, Monet was able to capture the look and feel of the movement of
water, which was demonstrated in The Sea at Le Havre, using an impasto style. He used erratic
brushstrokes to show the ripples of forming waves and the foam of the waves crashing on the shore.
His brushstrokes are also almost completely horizontal, which seemed to make the painting feel
heavier. In the sky, Monet used thicker, longer, and more opaque strokes, as well as of varying hues
of blue and gray, along with white, to create a look of overcast. To give the clouds fluffiness and
substance, the paint that was used for the sky was inconspicuously smudged in some places, with
more defined clouds layered overtop. The depth of the painting is attributed to his choices of color.
Black is rarely used in the painting aside from where necessary, but rather replaced with darker
shades of blue to show divots in the water, heavy clouds, and the distance of the village of houses
that line the horizon. The different shades also give a more realistic form of light to his paintings,
which was a focus of the impressionism era. His painting appears to be slightly gloomy, but doesn't
convey sadness. The piece is uniform in color, to emphasize the overcast, darkened day. Monet also
used symmetrical spacing, with the canvas split nearly in half between the sea and the sky. The only
thing that separates the sea and the sky is a piece of jutted–out land that shows he is on a gulf or an
inlet. On that piece of land, that goes a little over a third of the way onto the canvas, Monet used
heavy contrast, then continues the horizon with a slightly thick, darker blue–gray line to clearly
separate the halves of sea and sky. There are three places where it appears that Monet used black
along with darker shades of purple and blue, and each of those three places are

For the average guitarist on a budget, or for those who are looking to get into learning how to play,
there are few instruments better than the Ibanez line. One specific example of this is the Ibanez
RG2EX1. Let's look a little deeper to see just what it has to offer. Features: The body of the
RG2EX1 is made of basswood, a common feature for lower end guitars. Though the price of the
wood in high quantities is relatively cheap, they generally make instruments with good resonance
and sound quality. There are two modern, sleek looking finishes available with the Ibanez RG2EX1,
including jet black and royal blue. The neck is bolted on the guitar, and made of three separate
pieces of maple wood. The fretboard, meanwhile, is made of rosewood. It has twenty four jumbo
frets with pearloid dot inlays. The bridge of the guitar, in an effort to keep price down, is fixed
instead of tremolo. This takes away your ability to do dive bombs or some other popular hard rock

Analyte Interaction Between Gauguin And Van Gogh In Arles
Jaehun Lee
11/8/17
Second Writing Assignment
The explosive interaction between Gauguin and Van Gogh in Arles in 1888 can be said to condense
and bring to head a conflict between two different ways of conceiving art and aesthetic experience
that had been brewing throughout the 19th Century. How do you see the contrast between their
approaches to painting? And how does this contrast bear out these different tendencies?
While the painters after the Impressionism period were called the "Post–Impressionists," the label is
quite reductive. Each artist had their own unique style, from Seurat's pointillism to Signac's mosaic–
like divisionism, Cezanne, Émile Bernard, and others. These artists were all connected in that they
were reacting to the aesthetics of Impressionism. Two of the more influential painters from this
movement were Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, who aimed to connect with viewers on a
deeper level by ignoring a Naturalistic approach that attempted to merely depict the "real."
However, the two had distinct styles which attempted to achieve the same goal: to access Nature's
mystery and meaning beyond its superficial, observable level. In close examination of Vincent van
Gogh's Self–Portrait (Dedicated to Paul Gauguin) and Paul Gauguin's Self–Portrait with Portrait of
Émile Bernard (Les misérables), one may clearly see the two artists' contrasting styles on display.
Van Gogh based his paintings on the observable world around him, but he wanted to paint beyond

Advertising Guitars with Suicide and Sex
Ads are made to grab a certain audience and make that audience relate to the specific ad or make
them want to go out and purchase the product that is being promoted. Many ads are trying to sell
specific items; but if a person really analyses the ad, the company is selling or promoting more than
one item.
In this ad the company Gibson is promoting a specific guitar to be sold. In the ad there is a six–
string, electric guitar standing up with the wording, "If this doesn't get you laid you should just
commit suicide." In the lower right hand corner of the ad, the company's name Gibson is printed.
This six–string guitar is popular for beginning music artists. In this ad the company Gibson is using
pathos, ethos, and logos to get the audience's attention. The Gibson guitar ad explicitly sells guitars,
but it implicitly sells sex and suicide.
Gibson guitars are directing this ad to older teenage and young male adults. The audience is young
enough that they are still debating on what career path that they want to go down. To some of this
audience, this ad would grab their attention by thinking this guitar should get them laid. This aspect
would be directed mainly towards young males. Also, some guitars give the sexy and spontaneous
impression, which in a young male's eyes, is a perfect career. The ad is also saying that if a person
doesn't get laid because of a guitar, they should just kill themselves. By analyzing the statement and
ad picture, music involves sex and

Personal Narrative: Eastside Music Supply
"There is no way a guitar shop is in these buildings." I thought to myself. The short stalky buildings
are in a perfect line. Each one with their own sign hanging above the door. I've heard others mention
this shop in east Nashville. After finally peering around I found the shop. The sign read "Eastside
Music Supply."
I enter the building and a wall of burning incense consumes me. A running humidifier is trudging
along in the corner. A man wearing a beanie is behind a glass table. "Hey man, what's up?" He was
standing behind a glass counter filled with guitar pedals. "Anything you're looking for in
particular?" I do a quick scan around the room. "No I just heard about this place and wanted to
check it out."

In a world where the market is owned by big businesses, it's nice to see the underdog start to get
ahead somewhere. Not very often to see products as old or quality in a business like Guitar Center.
"Being in the music city tends to help a lot though!" It was probably a wise, or a no–brainer decision
to make. When living in other states around the country, I didn't have much of a choice to get the
guitars, pedals, or amplifiers I wanted. I didn't get much input on what would help me with what I
was looking for. Although in a small shop on the eastside of Nashville, it turns out it didn't matter
the size of the store or how much they had to sell. It was the person behind the counter that was

Discussion
By the time of his death, Paul Cézanne was highly admired as an artist. He did not have the time to
finish the painting "The Large Bathers", which was exhibited in a posthumous homage to him a year
later after his death. As such, many of the young artists in Paris at that time saw the painting as a
strong inspiration and creative challenge. Both Matisse and Picasso were influenced by Cézanne's
last painting.
Matisse's Bonheur de Vivre is similar to The Large Bathers in some aspects: it depicted nude figures
in nature. The main difference, when compared with Cézanne's work, is the difference in scale.
Matisse shifted the scale in what appears to be in a random way. As an example, there are two
human bodies next to each other that have different scales. The same does not occur with Cézanne's
work. Another difference is that Matisse used bright colors that did not match with reality. (Harris &

The Impact Of Modernism
Jonathan Glance , author of the book 20th Century Architecture ; The Structures That Shaped The
Century describes modernism as " an attitude rather than a style " an attempt to free the architect
from the rules of convention. Form following function was an attribute adopted by architectural
modernists. As a result of this, modern architecture is no longer ornamentally focused but uses
materials such as concrete, glass, steel and wood for functional construction. With reference to Le
Corbusier and his architectural masterpiece, Ville Savoye, this essay will discuss and analyze the
impact the industrial revolution had on modernism, the influence the Bauhaus had on architectural
development, social and economical effects that influenced social trends, how modernism was
received and reviewed by society and why the modernist dream ultimately failed.

It is the most important part. When all is said and done, guitars that sound better are by default
better. The category of tone has been dominated by Fender and Gibson. The two guitars offer the
best sound at the best price. The key to good tone and sound is good pickups. Pickups are located
underneath the strings, by where the picking takes place. He pick up the electromagnetic waves
from the string and send them out of the guitar. Stats use three single coil pickups with the third one

It is best described as twangy and crisp. They sound extremely bright and behave well in all genres

Gibson Les Pauls uses what are called humbucker pickups. These are essentially just two single
coiled pickups placed right next to each other. What this does is that all the background buzz and

Woman with a Hat Analysis Woman with a Hat is an oil on canvas painting by Henri Matisse,
created in 1905. The painting is considered one of the first ever Fauvist works, and was displayed at
the Salon d'Automne in Paris, an exhibit which defined the movement. Matisse was a French artist
who had actually worked in several mediums, but was most famous for his paintings. He was born
in Le Cateau–Cambresis, Northern France, in 1869. He first began painting in 1889 with a small
assortment of paintings supplies his mother had gifted him during a period when he was recovering
from illness. He joined Gustave Moreau, who would become an inspirational leader for Matisse's
Fauvist movement, at his studio in 1891. In 1896, Matisse began working with an Australian
impressionist painter John Peter Russell, who Matisse would credit as having taught him color
theory. Russel introduced him to impressionism and the works of Vincent van Gogh; Matisse's
relationship with Russell would drastically evolve his painting style. Matisse's early work took
influence from neo–impressionism, post–impressionism, and divisionism, a style which Matisse
took up after reading Paul Signac's essay D'Eugène Delacroix au Néo–impressionisme. Exploration
of these styles would influence his movement into the revolutionary style of Fauvism. Fauvism
emphasized painterly qualities and strong, vibrant color choices. It emphasized these qualities over

It was common for the artist to paint several versions of a subject, rethinking the composition and
the quality of the painting in the process; this was the case with Poussin's two paintings of "The
Abduction of the Sabine Women", which he created around 1633. Both paintings, with their strongly
opposing diagonals, are illustrations of the dynamic and self–confident style that Poussin adopted
for many of his scenes from earliest history. Poussin perhaps used the small stages with wax figures
and carefully arranged curtains, described by his colleagues. In his painting "Eliezer and Rebecca at
the Well" created in 1648, he used the same technic. In his late works Poussin may well have used
such a stage to plan the rigorous composition of "Saints Peter and John Healing the Lame Man" ,a
painting from about 1655 that shows the artist responding to the striking and solid classicism of
Raphael's The School of Athens. Poussin was much precise in his work: after reading of the primary

Modernism : A New Way Of Thinking
Modernism first emerged in the 20th century, in order to help the recovery and progression within
Britain after the war. Prominent modern designers such as Mies Van Der Rohe, Le Corbusier and
Walter Gropius changed the way people interacted with space, by blending exteriors and interiors
together & exploring new simplified forms. Which were mass–produced often on an assembly line
in order to make them fast and cost–effective. These Ideologies overruled previous Designers within
the Art Nouveau movement, as the idea of ornamented living did not meet basic social needs any
more. By disposing of these old fashioned ways, Modernism helped implement a solution into a less
complex living that was easily obtained and affordable. Many of their ideologies focused around
industrial design, responding to ever growing changes within technology and society. Le Corbusier
believed in Creating a better urban environment to improve on light and space, increasing physical
space and maximising it; for example movable light sources. These ideas became a new way of
thinking in both the US and Britain. In my essay, I will respond to the modernist ideologies found

What we know today as sustainable architectural design began in the early 20th century; born and
evolved from principles and theories of architects in addition to physical devices all which precursor
those in today sustainable architecture. These premature design elements, and theories are visible in
works such as Le Corbusier's early 20th century, Villa Savoye; and Alvar
Aalto's mid–20th century, Villa Mairea. Reviewing and rereading these building's physical designs
and their architects design thinking we begin to unfold how contemporary sustainable design today

Utilising re–enforced concrete technology allowed the villa Savoye to harbour strip windows, also
one of Le Corbusier's five points of new architecture. Embodied in the larger windows which give

With the development of Alvar Aalto's Villa Mairea in the mid–

Matisse's Le Bonheur De Vivre
As instrumental as Matisse and Picasso were to the development and evolution of modern art, they
were inspired by Cézanne. In this essay, I will describe how Paul Cézanne's The Large Bathers
(1906) inspired Matisse and Picasso but also how they evolved.
It is evident that while still embracing the abstract style emerging in the turn of the century, Cézanne
still chose to compose his painting in a classical way. (Harris & Zucker, n.d.) There is still a
believable perspective in the painting, even if the forms of the women are abstract but familiar.
Henri Matisse's Le Bonheur de Vivre (1906) strays away from the classical style by creating a
perspective that is unreal. The couple in the bottom right corner are significantly larger than the
woman next to them, but also nearly equal in size to the women in the middle of the painting. The
composition is very skewed because of the liberations he took in regards to perspective. There is
also a more playful feel to Matisse's painting than Cézanne's. Not only are the figures carefree, but
so are the contrasting colors and brushstrokes. This is very different from The Large Bathers but

It is why this painting is seen as the beginnings of Cubism. There is no perspective; the picture is
completely flat. The women are nonrepresentational and weird. This style will carry forward into

their representation isn't vulgar. This is not the case for Picasso's painting. "Picasso turned Matisse's
sensuality into violent pornography." (Harris & Zucker, n.d. para. 11) Their poses are raunchy and
shocking. It is not as sensual or lively as Matisse's painting nor as intimate or accurate as Cézanne's.

The Album Of La Revue Blanche
Exhibition Overview:
Among the many fabulous pieces of art housed at the DMA, there lies a hidden gem that has yet to
be on display. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th
century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin–de–siècle French
print culture, but also a beautiful case–study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the
realm of fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in
early modern art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic
hallmarks of the lithograph in a more detailed way.
Lithography: Method
Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and
water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease–treated image on the flat printing
surface. Non–image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then
printed by means of a special press as in most fine–art printmaking . The earliest–though no longer
the only–method of creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image
is drawn with "tusche"– a carbon pigment in liquid form, and "litho" crayon – a type of grease
pencil– before the printing surface is fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The
printing itself is done on a press that exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no
wear in

Poussin when he suffered from what is called 'mal di Francia.'(Blunt, 55) After several years were
spent recovering from his illness Jacques gave his daughter Anne Marie to Poussin in marriage. The
ceremony toke place on September 1, 1630 in the city of Lucina. Jacques Dughet had two sons
named Gaspard and Jean, who were artist and worked under the supervision of their brother–in–law.
Gaspard was so inspired by Poussin that in the later years of his life he took the name of his great
teacher Gaspard Poussin.
During this time Poussin kept company with many painters who he was to keep a close friend ship
for many years. He lived close to many painters and sculptors of the time. Among these was Jean
Lemaire, who later worked with Poussin on the execution of the Long Gallery in the Louvre from
1640 to 1642. While in Rome Poussin dressed as a Frenchman, until hostile Romans attacked him
due to the anti–French sentiment at the time. He saved his

Hatred Hell into Lovely Heaven Essay
Starts from "Why do they hate me?", and then grows into "Why can't they give me another chance?"
and ends up with "I will take revenge!" that is how humans' hatred toward other person caused
him/her to do evils. When humans start to think about taking revenge, they will think of the worst
thing they can do to those who they want to take revenge to, and there is a possibility that they want
to kill them too. Imagine how if everyone in this world has that kind of feeling, the world will be in
chaos. Of course no one wants to have a chaotic world to live in, so how can we make a peaceful
world? As social beings, humans' hearts, minds and attitudes are affected by how other people feel
and act toward them. Humans tend to do and feel the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The other effect is when someone is loved she/he will feel happy, and the happiness makes humans
healthy (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 17:22). The most important effect is that love can change other
people into better people that can lead into a better world. All of you should know that love's enemy
is hatred. When love gives so many benefits, hatred gives bad results. One of the different results is
love makes peace while hatred can cause a war. All people should know the fact that hating other
people is bad, but why many people still hate each other? To love others is not a piece of cake,
before humans can love others they need to love themselves, and before they can love themselves
rightly they should love God (Matthew 22:37–39). Therefore, the key of loving others is by loving
God wholly. In the novel Les Miserables, Jean Valjean who loves Cossette and Javert who hates
Jean Valjean give a good example to explain about the different result between love and hate. Jean
Valjean got happiness from loving Cossette (Hugo, page 332), while Javert could not feel peace and
ended up committing suicide (Hugo, page 284). Jean Valjean used to be a man who was filled with
hatred, so he kept stealing and did bad things. But after he was changed by love he tried as good as
he can to help people around him and he also quoted "... Love each other dearly always. There is
scarcely anything else in the world but that: to love one

Sullivan's Influence On American Architecture
At the turn of the century, new trends in painting and in architecture emerged to replace the
traditional forms of these arts, and introduce new and innovative ideas to the art and architecture of
the new century. Artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque introduced the cubism and
collages, and defied the need for art to be literal and straightforward as much art was before the
twentieth century. Architecture was transfigured by architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Le
Corbusier, who rejected traditional architectural methods and employed new ideals. Their ideals
included using new materials such as ferroconcrete, using Asian architecture as a significant
influence, and drastically changing how homes are constructed inside and out ... Show more content

Le Corbusier (1887–1965) was a French architect based in Europe whose real name was Charles–
Edouard Jeanneret. Likewise to Wright, Le Corbusier believed in functional housing and often
compared a house to a machine (Frampton.) Ironically, he opposed and rejected Wright's
architectural ideals (Frampton). His architecture was quite known in Europe for its progressive and
sleek style. When it came down to deciding on how he would design his works, he followed his
system called, "purism". Purism involved the consideration of two things: practical need and the
search of archetypes. According to Frampton, he wanted only what was practical and necessary to
be considered in the designs, and looked for intellectually–stimulating and functional shapes. He
believed in the constant improvement and innovation of architecture; he did not agree with typical,
traditional European style. He based his architecture on an utopia and created all his designs to
resemble a modern, city–like utopia that was ideal for automobiles. According to Frampton, he said,
"A city made for speed is a city made for success". He called his ideal, utopian city, "Ville
Contemporaine" and when he displayed his utopian project in the Paris Exposition des Arts
Decoratifs LOOK FOR YEAR OF THIS EXPOSITION, it strongly disagreed with the popular and

Saul Hudson

  • 1. Saul Hudson Saul Hudson was born to an African American mother and British father in London on July 23, 1965 and even though he was born in London he was raised for most of his life in Los Angeles, California. Saul was given the nickname "Slash", by a family friend because he was very energetic and constantly in motion growing up. He is now known as slash by everyone, and he says that the only two people that call him by his first real name are, his mom and his doctor. Slash learned to play the guitar as a teenager with Robert Wolin, a teacher at Fairfax Music School but he soon lost interest in schoolwork and took up BMX racing, later he became more interested in playing the guitar and gave up his biking. In 1981, he joined his first band, known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slash has played solos with a couple of famous artists, such as Michael Jackson in his Billy Jean concert. In 1985 he joined Guns N' Roses, and played with them until 1996 but is coming to perform with them this year in El Paso. Velvet Revolver, was another band he played in. Hollywood Rose is another band he played guitar with, which also included Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin. But overall his first band was the Tidus Sloan band. Slash always uses Gibson Les Paul guitars of various colors, with very few exceptions, his first guitar was a 1970/80s Memphis Les Paul, he started moving on to funky looking guitars such as the 1978/79 B.C. Rich Mockingbird and the B.C. Rich Warlock, after using a couple of non–Gibson guitars he moved on and used for the most part, Gibson guitars, his coolest one to me would be the 1967 Gibson EDS–1275 which looks like two guitars in one, he owns two of these I believe. • 2. Michelle Dbq Essay It is understood that among different mediums of art the narrative voices of male characters generally express and enthusiastic response over new affectionate emotions towards another female character. The song "Michelle" was recorded in November of 1965 and released to the public the following month written and performed by John Lennon and Sir Paul McCartney, once performed by Sir Paul McCartney at the White House for the entertainment of President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. The song describes the story of a man who loves a woman named Michelle, but tragically cannot fully express his love, as it suggests that the woman does not speak English, so the narrator learns several words of her language to attempt to communicate his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering both instances in the two sources, the commentary they make of the male's initial emotional response to romantic emotion evoked by a strong attraction to a female suggests a largely verbal and dramaticized response, often toward appearance first. In the song "Michelle," the narrator relies only verbal expression. He sings, "Sont les mots qui vont très bien ensemble... I will say the only words I know that you'll understand" (Doc. 1). This shows that the narrator makes extra effort to verbally communicate with the woman, suggesting he does this because he feels he must, as he sees no other ways of communication. Romeo, in Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, is dramatic in his portrayal of Juliet. He declares, "O, she doth teaches the torches to burn bright!" (Romeo and Juliet. 1.5.44). This demonstrates his dramaticity through the use of metaphor, as Juliet does not teach torches to emit light, but rather she appears to emit more light than a torch in Romeo's perspective, which is an overstatement in this case. Romeo also makes much commentary on Juliet's appearance. He exclaims, "Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear!" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jean Luc Godard 's ' Le Mepris ' Le Mépris is a film distinct in Jean–Luc Godard's career, for many reasons: amongst others, it was his first foray into a more big–budget, large scale production. Ironically – or perhaps purposefully – one of the overarching themes explored within Le Mépris' is maintaining artistic integrity, whilst attaining commercial success. Nowhere is this better explored than the famous middle sequence: their extended argument indoors. I aim to analyse this scene's depiction as not only a simple argument between tumultuous lovers, but as it's symbolic exploration of their decaying relationship as a whole, encompassing many of the overarching themes of 'Le Mépris' – love, ennui, and of course, contempt. As soon as they step into their home, the door ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps this is really a subversive way to express the emptiness consuming their relationship. Significant too at the beginning of this scene, is the way the camera follows Lucille and Paul. The majority of the time they are framed in shots alone, only in passing does the frame capture them both. Though they are inhabiting the same space, the choice to capture them separately is very deliberate, highlighting the isolation mounting within their relationship as they start to grow apart; tying into the existential theme that eventually, we all die alone. The vehicle of a failing relationship to depict this existential dread is an apt choice; nowhere more is isolation emphasized than in contrast of it's antithesis: once romantic love, the communion of two souls. Paul seems engrossed with his letters, pacing around the apartment staring at them, never really lifting his eyes to properly meet his wife's gaze. The letters are symbolic of his work – his priorities now lie there, and not his wife. For a second, Lucille seems to snap from a sullen mood to a more playful one, and perhaps in a bid to grasp her husband's attention once more, she asks him to guess what she bought today. When he asks what, and does not get an immediate answer, he reacts with irritation instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Modern Architecture Essays ESSAY 1 Le Corbusier and Mies van de Rohe were two architects influenced by the contemporary movements of their time period. Le Corbusier's architectural ideology was derived from the multiple techniques and styles he had previously encountered through study. His early designs were expressive of the "youth style" which was introduced to him by his instructor, L'Eplattenier. New technologies, however, began to influence his philosophies. Le Corbusier saw potential in concrete building systems and desired to experiment with its structural abilities through his designs. The modern industry, as well as the political disorder which came about following the First World War, motivated his innovative design philosophies which appeared in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Style, he described, was defined by the time period in which architects practiced like building techniques and philosophies. Michael Speaks would have attributed the lack of 'new' in the architecture of Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier's era to cohesion to general manifestoes produce outside their time period. Architects from later time periods cannot pursue the same manifesto because technological advances in design must be considered. His arguments reveal that following a general manifesto from start to finish will produce an unchanging architecture. Michael Speaks wrote, "I do not believe we need another manifesto in architecture, even of the incomplete, aborted or personal variety. Architecture, it seems has suffered enough from the illusion that manifestoes matter (except insofar as they stifle creativity) and it is time we found other ways of developing experimental practices ... Vanguards, with their five points, seven principles and ten theses for a new architecture, draw a line that leads straight from the manifesto to 'the new.' And because the completion of this line is best that can be hoped for, there is nothing new about the 'new.'" If architects followed the same lines to solve the same problems, a new architecture could not be actualized. A separation from the lines between manifesto and solution made way for discovery of design and methods of creating 'new' architecture. Mies van der Rohe and Le ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Use Of Film As A Propaganda Tool Introduction Propaganda, can be defined as the capacity of a person to produce and disseminate "attractive" and reproducible messages that once seeded they will greatly influence human cultures. The end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century were periods during which propagandistic activities flourished. The development of mass media along with unprecedented advances in transportation and communication, due to innovative new technologies that came with industrial revolution, resulted to the formation of mass audiences for propaganda, in all sectors and for different purposes. All different media such as print, films, radio and television contributed to this new era, offering their unique characteristics for exploitation. In this essay, I am going to focus on the particular use of film as a propaganda tool. A propaganda film, can take either the form of a documentary film production or a fictional screenplay that aims at convincing the audience about certain issues. They can be driven by politics, social conflicts, environmental problems or simply personal incentives. Propagandistic content in films can be realistic so as to reflect actual problems and/or situations or specifically formed aiming at misleading large masses of the population on certain matters and alter their perception. The first acknowledged propaganda film was a series of short silent films, produced during the Spanish–American war in 1898 by the Vitagraph Studios. Moreover, in 1918, Charlie ... How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they 've clocked up a bit of mileage?Once upon a time a 1958 Fender Stratocaster was just a second–hand guitar; now, it 's a holy relic. Let 's face it, the vintage instrument market has become VERY silly over the last 20 years or so, with investors all over the world hoovering up any old six string with a few dings, wrinkles and a six figure price tag... But what 's the appeal? How do instruments automatically achieve a kind of irresistible cachet just because they 've clocked up a bit of mileage? Being a little on the vintage side myself, I can remember pressing my nose up against the shop windows of London 's Tin Pan Alley during the early 1970s and lusting after Gibson Les Pauls. Back then, I wanted to be Jimmy Page and so I reasoned that I had to equip myself with the right tool for the job. Some of the guitars that set my eyes aglow back then were undoubtedly the Grail instruments of today 's vintage market – but in those days they would have probably cost around £275, including a case and a spare set of strings.Alas, I never bought a Les Paul back then, settling instead for a Gibson SG which I sold several years later when I caught a bad case of jazz and consequently renounced solid body guitars in favour of arch tops. What can I say? I was young and capricious...So when everything began going nuts during the 1990s, I kicked myself for lack of foresight, but, being a rational chap, ... • 8. Architecture Manifesto Example Course: ARC 103 Title: Architecture and Sensitivity: A Manifesto for Sustainable Design This manifesto proposes an approach to sustainable design that I am interested in exploring during my time studying architecture. The idea of sustainability is a complex one, not without apparent contradictions. This makes it difficult to define in a wholly satisfactory manner. For the purposes of this manifesto I will advert to the definition proposed by Jason McLennan who asserts that sustainable design: "seeks to maximize the quality of the built environment, while minimizing or eliminating negative impact to the natural environment." I find this definition particularly useful in the emphasis which it places on quality. By quality, in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generous architecture offers an approach which puts everyday people at the forefront of the design. This is an inclusive architecture which does not limit itself only to the client and/or private users of the building. Nobody is excluded. An example of this kind of what might be described as "generous" architecture can be found in Norwegian firm Snøhetta's Oslo Opera House on the waters of the Oslo Fjord, completed in 2007 (Fig. 2). Fig. 2 Snøhetta, Oslo Opera House, 2007 Snøhetta are concerned with the social dimension of architecture and this design imaginatively reinterprets the traditional opera houses that "conventionally limit their public spaces to exterior plazas or grand lobbies, often only accessible during opening hours." What is striking here is that their Opera House succeeds in giving back to the city a public space. The sloping rooftop becomes a new public area: a recreation space and viewing platform that you can walk on, sit on, sunbathe on, even snowboard on. As a result anyone, whether interested in Opera or not, can enjoy the space. The building has been called "a social democratic monument" by founding partner of Snøhetta, Craig Dykers – and one can see why. In a recent television interview, Dykers went on to remark: "There is a sense of being able to place your feet onto the building that gives you a sense of ownership. At ... It is often used in a variety of genres of music from Blues to Rock music. It has become an essential piece of equipment for players all around the world. Since the day of its birth in 1954, it continues to impress everyone who plays one to this day. The Fender Stratocaster has always consisted of a three pick–up system to give the guitar a range of sounds that you do not generally get from other guitars. Pick–ups are electro–magnets that have six pole magnets with two plastic pieces fit on each end to hold them together. A thin copper wire is then spun around all six magnets for an average of seven–thousand times. The more spins a pick–up contains, the more output it holds, giving the player more response when the strings are stricken. The pick–ups are white with the magnets staggered and poking through the pick–up cover. Each one is a single coil magnet placed into the pickguard in a certain place or angle. Wherever the pick–up is positioned, will determine the sound it makes. The neck single coil, being closest to the neck of the guitar, has more bass in its sound due to it being closer to the center point of where the string spins and vibrates. The middle single coil being a little further down from the neck, has sound the most reggae players enjoy the most because it has the perfect balance of bass and treble to get the sound they desire. Last but not least, the bridge pick–up is the brightest sounding magnet in the guitar. It being closer to the bridge, gives it more twang and bite compared to the neck and middle single coils. This is all made possible by Leo Fender's Five–selector switch which allows you to select each pickup on its own or a blend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although Impressionism was also apparent in mediums like music and literature, its most prominent influence was painting. As it progressed towards Post–Impressionism, it opened up the art world to stylistic rendering, deviated from realism, and introduced the world to modern and avant–garde art. This essay will discuss how it managed to do so and specifically how the movement advanced into Post–Impressionism. After Impressionism peaked in 1870– artists such as Cézanne and Seurat started to opt out from exhibiting altogether, and had produced their own styles. In the eighth and final Impressionist exhibition, it was suggested that the title 'Impressionist' be dropped as the artists who aligned with its characteristics were not present, and pieces were judged by its own merit rather than as a group. Manet's death in 1883 had also signaled the breakup of the Impressionists, being one of the initiators of the movement. Therefore, the lack of common ideas between the artists led them to work independently, form new ideas and techniques which led to Post–Impressionism. In conclusion, Post–Impressionism itself was not a singular style, but was unified through the rejection of Impressionism and many post–impressionist artists served as inspiration for many movements to come such as Fauvism, Symbolism, Expressionism and avant–garde art in general. The inherent limitations and discontent in forms of expression was what drove artists from academic art into Impressionism. • 16. Art Analysis Of Claude Monet's The Sea At Le Havre The Sea at Le Havre, painted by Claude Monet in 1868, is a 23 5/8" x 24 3/8" oil on canvas landscape painting. Monet was a French artist who lived from 1840 to 1926 and was considered to be an impressionist. A unique quality of Monet was unblended "sloppy" brushstrokes combined with a use of precise choice of color, as seen clearly in The Sea at Le Havre. Because of his vigorous and richly textured painting style, Monet was able to capture the look and feel of the movement of water, which was demonstrated in The Sea at Le Havre, using an impasto style. He used erratic brushstrokes to show the ripples of forming waves and the foam of the waves crashing on the shore. His brushstrokes are also almost completely horizontal, which seemed to make the painting feel heavier. In the sky, Monet used thicker, longer, and more opaque strokes, as well as of varying hues of blue and gray, along with white, to create a look of overcast. To give the clouds fluffiness and substance, the paint that was used for the sky was inconspicuously smudged in some places, with more defined clouds layered overtop. The depth of the painting is attributed to his choices of color. Black is rarely used in the painting aside from where necessary, but rather replaced with darker shades of blue to show divots in the water, heavy clouds, and the distance of the village of houses that line the horizon. The different shades also give a more realistic form of light to his paintings, which was a focus of the impressionism era. His painting appears to be slightly gloomy, but doesn't convey sadness. The piece is uniform in color, to emphasize the overcast, darkened day. Monet also used symmetrical spacing, with the canvas split nearly in half between the sea and the sky. The only thing that separates the sea and the sky is a piece of jutted–out land that shows he is on a gulf or an inlet. On that piece of land, that goes a little over a third of the way onto the canvas, Monet used heavy contrast, then continues the horizon with a slightly thick, darker blue–gray line to clearly separate the halves of sea and sky. There are three places where it appears that Monet used black along with darker shades of purple and blue, and each of those three places are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analyte Interaction Between Gauguin And Van Gogh In Arles Jaehun Lee 11/8/17 Second Writing Assignment The explosive interaction between Gauguin and Van Gogh in Arles in 1888 can be said to condense and bring to head a conflict between two different ways of conceiving art and aesthetic experience that had been brewing throughout the 19th Century. How do you see the contrast between their approaches to painting? And how does this contrast bear out these different tendencies? While the painters after the Impressionism period were called the "Post–Impressionists," the label is quite reductive. Each artist had their own unique style, from Seurat's pointillism to Signac's mosaic– like divisionism, Cezanne, Émile Bernard, and others. These artists were all connected in that they were reacting to the aesthetics of Impressionism. Two of the more influential painters from this movement were Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, who aimed to connect with viewers on a deeper level by ignoring a Naturalistic approach that attempted to merely depict the "real." However, the two had distinct styles which attempted to achieve the same goal: to access Nature's mystery and meaning beyond its superficial, observable level. In close examination of Vincent van Gogh's Self–Portrait (Dedicated to Paul Gauguin) and Paul Gauguin's Self–Portrait with Portrait of Émile Bernard (Les misérables), one may clearly see the two artists' contrasting styles on display. As such, many of the young artists in Paris at that time saw the painting as a strong inspiration and creative challenge. Both Matisse and Picasso were influenced by Cézanne's last painting. Matisse's Bonheur de Vivre is similar to The Large Bathers in some aspects: it depicted nude figures in nature. The main difference, when compared with Cézanne's work, is the difference in scale. Matisse shifted the scale in what appears to be in a random way. As an example, there are two human bodies next to each other that have different scales. The same does not occur with Cézanne's work. Another difference is that Matisse used bright colors that did not match with reality. (Harris & Zucker, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Woman With A Hat Analysis : Woman With A Hat Brock Wright November 1, 2017 ARHS 1020 Lucia Abramovich Woman with a Hat Analysis Woman with a Hat is an oil on canvas painting by Henri Matisse, created in 1905. The painting is considered one of the first ever Fauvist works, and was displayed at the Salon d'Automne in Paris, an exhibit which defined the movement. Matisse was a French artist who had actually worked in several mediums, but was most famous for his paintings. He was born in Le Cateau–Cambresis, Northern France, in 1869. He first began painting in 1889 with a small assortment of paintings supplies his mother had gifted him during a period when he was recovering from illness. He joined Gustave Moreau, who would become an inspirational leader for Matisse's Fauvist movement, at his studio in 1891. In 1896, Matisse began working with an Australian impressionist painter John Peter Russell, who Matisse would credit as having taught him color theory. Russel introduced him to impressionism and the works of Vincent van Gogh; Matisse's relationship with Russell would drastically evolve his painting style. Matisse's early work took influence from neo–impressionism, post–impressionism, and divisionism, a style which Matisse took up after reading Paul Signac's essay D'Eugène Delacroix au Néo–impressionisme. Exploration of these styles would influence his movement into the revolutionary style of Fauvism. Fauvism emphasized painterly qualities and strong, vibrant color choices. • 27. Comparison Of Vincent Van Gogh And Paul Gauguin And... While the painters after the Impressionism period were collectively called the "Post– Impressionists," the label is quite reductive. Each artist had their own unique style, from Seurat's pointillism to Signac's mosaic–like divisionism, Cezanne, Émile Bernard, and others. These artists were all connected in that they were reacting to the aesthetics of Impressionism. Two of the more influential painters from this movement were Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, who aimed to connect with viewers on a deeper level by access Nature's mystery and meaning beyond its superficial, observable level. However, each artist's approach to achieving this goal was different. In close examination of Vincent van Gogh's Self–Portrait (Dedicated to Paul Gauguin) and Paul Gauguin's Self–Portrait with Portrait of Émile Bernard (Les misérables), one may clearly see the two artists' contrasting styles on display. Van Gogh based his paintings on the observable world around him, but he wanted to paint beyond the superficial reality of nature and express its mystery and power through an impulsive and spontaneous approach to painting. Self Portrait (dedicated to Gauguin) exhibits this desire. Although based on an observed scene, van Gogh uses non–naturalistic colors for expressive purposes. For example, van Gogh's choice to paint a self–portrait on a baby–blue/light turquoise background was a radical step away from a naturalistically–colored background that would be seen in a Realist self– portrait (i.e. ... It was common for the artist to paint several versions of a subject, rethinking the composition and the quality of the painting in the process; this was the case with Poussin's two paintings of "The Abduction of the Sabine Women", which he created around 1633. Both paintings, with their strongly opposing diagonals, are illustrations of the dynamic and self–confident style that Poussin adopted for many of his scenes from earliest history. Poussin perhaps used the small stages with wax figures and carefully arranged curtains, described by his colleagues. In his painting "Eliezer and Rebecca at the Well" created in 1648, he used the same technic. In his late works Poussin may well have used such a stage to plan the rigorous composition of "Saints Peter and John Healing the Lame Man" ,a painting from about 1655 that shows the artist responding to the striking and solid classicism of Raphael's The School of Athens. Poussin was much precise in his work: after reading of the primary sources, he made an initial sketch, and then constructed a small model stage upon which he could move with actual miniature figures made of ... • 32. Modernism : A New Way Of Thinking Modernism first emerged in the 20th century, in order to help the recovery and progression within Britain after the war. Prominent modern designers such as Mies Van Der Rohe, Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius changed the way people interacted with space, by blending exteriors and interiors together & exploring new simplified forms. Which were mass–produced often on an assembly line in order to make them fast and cost–effective. These Ideologies overruled previous Designers within the Art Nouveau movement, as the idea of ornamented living did not meet basic social needs any more. By disposing of these old fashioned ways, Modernism helped implement a solution into a less complex living that was easily obtained and affordable. Many of their ideologies focused around industrial design, responding to ever growing changes within technology and society. Le Corbusier believed in Creating a better urban environment to improve on light and space, increasing physical space and maximising it; for example movable light sources. These ideas became a new way of thinking in both the US and Britain. In my essay, I will respond to the modernist ideologies found within the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre and if the building was a Modernist success or disaster. • 34. Matisse's Le Bonheur De Vivre As instrumental as Matisse and Picasso were to the development and evolution of modern art, they were inspired by Cézanne. In this essay, I will describe how Paul Cézanne's The Large Bathers (1906) inspired Matisse and Picasso but also how they evolved. It is evident that while still embracing the abstract style emerging in the turn of the century, Cézanne still chose to compose his painting in a classical way. (Harris & Zucker, n.d.) There is still a believable perspective in the painting, even if the forms of the women are abstract but familiar. Henri Matisse's Le Bonheur de Vivre (1906) strays away from the classical style by creating a perspective that is unreal. The couple in the bottom right corner are significantly larger than the woman next to them, but also nearly equal in size to the women in the middle of the painting. The composition is very skewed because of the liberations he took in regards to perspective. There is also a more playful feel to Matisse's painting than Cézanne's. Not only are the figures carefree, but so are the contrasting colors and brushstrokes. This is very different from The Large Bathers but also very different ... • 35. The Album Of La Revue Blanche Exhibition Overview: Among the many fabulous pieces of art housed at the DMA, there lies a hidden gem that has yet to be on display. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin–de–siècle French print culture, but also a beautiful case–study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the lithograph in a more detailed way. Lithography: Method Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease–treated image on the flat printing surface. Non–image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means of a special press as in most fine–art printmaking . The earliest–though no longer the only–method of creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with "tusche"– a carbon pigment in liquid form, and "litho" crayon – a type of grease pencil– before the printing surface is fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The printing itself is done on a press that exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no wear in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The other effect is when someone is loved she/he will feel happy, and the happiness makes humans healthy (The Holy Bible, Proverbs 17:22). The most important effect is that love can change other people into better people that can lead into a better world. All of you should know that love's enemy is hatred. When love gives so many benefits, hatred gives bad results. One of the different results is love makes peace while hatred can cause a war. All people should know the fact that hating other people is bad, but why many people still hate each other? To love others is not a piece of cake, before humans can love others they need to love themselves, and before they can love themselves rightly they should love God (Matthew 22:37–39). Therefore, the key of loving others is by loving God wholly. In the novel Les Miserables, Jean Valjean who loves Cossette and Javert who hates Jean Valjean give a good example to explain about the different result between love and hate. Jean Valjean got happiness from loving Cossette (Hugo, page 332), while Javert could not feel peace and ended up committing suicide (Hugo, page 284). Jean Valjean used to be a man who was filled with hatred, so he kept stealing and did bad things. His architecture was quite known in Europe for its progressive and sleek style. When it came down to deciding on how he would design his works, he followed his system called, "purism". He believed in the constant improvement and innovation of architecture; he did not agree with typical, traditional European style.
