Assessment Task Instructions for Students
Assessment Task:
The assessment will take place using framed opening in the workshop area.
Each student is to install a cavity slider unit(pocket) into a timber framed opening, install the door and
all door furniture.
You are required to:
 Plan and prepare.
 Install a cavity slider unit and door
 Clean up
Using the information from class presentation and the learning resources attached below, you are
required to install a sliding cavity door unit into a wall frame, hang a door in the unit and fit all door
furniture.
You must ensure all PPE is worn correctly throughout the entire assessment. If you are not found to
be working safely at any time you assessment will be stopped
Covering the following topics:
 Check opening
 Install sliding door pocket level, plumb and in wind
 Hang a door
 Fit door furniture to industry standard
 Clean up
Assessment range and conditions:
 This is an individual assessment
 This assessment will be completed during your normal class time
 You must participate in SWMS discussion prior to beginning this assessment
 This is a practical assessment
 Assessment will be undertaken in a simulated work environment under teacher supervision.
Materials provided: Assessment paper, all tools, equipment and materials will be made available for
each student.
Materials you may need: Full PPE, and a device to access Ready Skills.
Information for students: You may have two (2) attempts for this assessment.
 If your first attempt is not successful, your teacher will discuss your results with you and will
arrange a second attempt.
 If your second attempt is not successful, you will be required to re-enrol in this unit.
Only one re-assessment attempt will be granted for each assessment item.

Work Instructions
 Read the manufacturer’s installation instructions and fixing specifications attached below.
 Fit the cavity sliding door unit into the frame to manufacturers specifications.
 Fit the cavity sliding door unit with the following qualities: -
o Check pocket is square from manufacturer.
o Check floor for level where pocket sits and pack accordingly, so pocket sits level.
o Pocket jamb is plumb.
o Pocket sliding track is level.
o Pocket is in wind.
o Pocket fixed and packed to manufacturers specifications.
 Install rollers to the door to manufacturers specifications, keeping in mind:
o Lock block to correct side.
o Which side you want to be able to remove the door from.
o Using the correct fixings as supplied by the manufacturer.
 Cut and fit loose jamb opposite pocket jamb for door to close to with the following qualities:
o Plumb & parallel to the pocket jamb
o Straight.
o Fixed correctly to take wall lining.
 Install and adjust door plumb and parallel to pocket jamb. Keep lock block in mind.
 Check that the door slides freely inside the pocket. (I.E. Pocket has been installed in wind)
 Check the leading edge of the door closes neatly to the jamb with no visible gaps and adjust
jamb if necessary.
 Lock and tighten adjustment bolts in position. (Use two spanners to lock and tighten)
 Locate and mark out the lock block this should be 300 high and 60 mm deep.
 Fix slides and locators so door runs smoothly and in the centre of the pocket.
 Install pelmets using correct white caps.

Keep lock block in mind.  Check that the door slides freely inside the pocket. (I.E. Pocket has been installed in wind)  Check the leading edge of the door closes neatly to the jamb with no visible gaps and adjust jamb if necessary.  Lock and tighten adjustment bolts in position. (Use two spanners to lock and tighten)  Locate and mark out the lock block this should be 300 high and 60 mm deep.  Fix slides and locators so door runs smoothly and in the centre of the pocket.  Install pelmets using correct white caps.
