The document summarizes how the media product uses and develops conventions of real media products. For the music video, it matches the visuals to the pace and lyrics of the song, including lip syncing, location changes with the music, and reversed footage. Simple shots with many changes and retro effects were used, along with cloning and hand drawing techniques. The website was inspired by real band websites, including a GIF background and tabs. While the platform Wix is not typically used for real bands, the end product looked professional. The album was influenced by Metronomy's retro style, including the band name, title, and track listing as is common for vinyl records. A polaroid photo provided more details in a retro style

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
1. Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media products?
2. Our music video
Goodwin said that in a music video the pace of the music and lyrics of the song could match with the
visuals within the music video. He also stated that there may be some lip syncing of the lyrics in the
video. In our music video we portrayed both of these things. We showed a relationship between the
video and pace of the song, for example where the pace of the song changes and sounds like it is
going backwards in reverse, we emulated this in our video by showing a clip of the characters
walking however it was reversed so it looked like they were going backwards also. We also portrayed
lip syncing at the first bit of the chorus where Annabel is singing the song with the flashing lights
around the shot. Another part was where the location changed matching with the drums. This shows
that we conformed to Goodwins conventions throughout the video.
When filming the shots for our video, we stuck to simple shots and had lots of changes between
them. This made the video look more retro and complemented the effects used on the video which
we also included to have a retro look the production. However in some parts of the video we used
the cloning and the hand drawn techniques, this was to make our video stand out and look different.
But also add the the feelings attatched to the video, as we waned to make a happy, fun and in some
ways, messy king of video to not only atch the song and lyrics but also the ideas and feelings to put
across to our audience. Which is something that we did well as we wanted them to feel happy, have
fun and also feel a part of the music video.
3. The website
Before creating our own website we looked at real bands websites for inspirations and
ideas to work towards. We really liked the idea of a Gif background which was on Two
Door Cinema Clubs website, which we showed by making our own GIF as the
background for our album. We also liked the layout and look of websites from Glass
Animals and also Metronomy which we took into consideration when creating our
website.
On our website we included tabs such as Home, about us, music, video and a store tab
which was used to portray some merchandise which we created such as t-shirts.
One thing that we did notice however which made our album different from real
albums is that none of the bands/artists we researched ad their websites created on
Wix, the platform we used to create ours. We think this was because they obviously
have a bidget and the resources to create their websites in pretty much any ay they
choose, where as we had a lack of these resources and could only really use Wix.
However I think our end product worked really well and also looked just as good as
some real band websites.
4. The album
Our initial ideas for our album was that we wanted to make a simplistic looking retro
album. This then turned into the idea of making a vinyl not a CD, to make it look different
from the rest and also keep that retro vibe. For the actual visuals of the album we were
influenced by “The English Riviera” by Metronomy which is just a simple, but effective,
retro looking album cover. We then thought the idea of the sky image would look cool so
we used that and thought how we could elaborate from it.
We ice again conformed with Goodwin’s conventions of having the band name and the title
of the record on the front. Also included on the front cover was the hand drawn outline of
the “foregniers” which portrayed the band, with that we had sort of crated a logo for the
band and was heavily included after this with the merchandise, website and also the
inserts of the record.
On the back cover we had track listing with a A side and also B side which is common on
vinyl records, so we stuck to normal conventions once again with the album. Also on the
back, to back up the retro look, we included a polaroid style photo which was took during
filming. We thought this would be good to include as it matches with the style of the
record and also gives the customers another little bit of detail to consume.
