April Behind You Character Analysis
April from Don't Look Behind You and Rachel from Summer of Fear are both considered kind,
however they differ because Rachel is responsible and April is selfish. In both stories, the readers
can see Rachels and April's kindness show throughout both of their stories when interacting with
their family and friends. Rachel is different from April, because she is a responsible individual.
Characterization plays an important role in the reader's understanding of character development.
Readers of both Don't Look Behind You and Summer of Fear find Rachel and April kind. First,
April says, "Call me Rae, I said awkwardly. "That's what my friends call me. I'm so sorry about your
family It's so awful. We're all so sorry. "I know," Julia said. "Thank you" Rachel is being kind to
Julia by making her feel more comfortable. Rachel does this by saying for Julia to call her by the
name her friends call her. "I was going to get it straightened." I said/ hurriedly. "I didn't know that
you were coming home so soon. I'll go up now and clear out some drawers in the bureau." The text
shows Rachel being kind and letting Julia share her room without hesitation. This shows that Rachel
wants Julia to feel welcome, which is the kind way to be. April from Don't Look behind You is also
kind, for example on page 24 April says, "I'm sure we can pick up a pair for you tomorrow," I said.

Personal Narrative: A Decision That Changed My Life
I never knew that one action or decision could change you life for ever but on Friday, May 28th
2016 I experienced first hand by jumping into a shallow pool and tore my PCL.
Maddie Emma and I had arrived to Maddie's house excited but I felt a pit in my stomach but i just
ignored it and ran to get changed. Walking towards the pool I felt this pitting feeling throughout my
whole body as if my brain was screaming at me not to get in but like every other decision in my life
I chose to ignore it and slid into the pool. Emma had jumped in and wanted to show Maddie how to
do spinals because thats the first thing that a lifeguard thinks of when entering the pool. Coincidence

your doctor , that it what they say to people that are dying or have cancer. spoiler alert they found

To Rap Or Not To Rap Essay
The music industry is always growing and trying to solicit new music to get higher ratings. "The
music industry's role in promoting negative music has been a hot topic for many years. What is too
often under reported is how young people, including incarcerated youth, are directly impacted by the
music." That quote came from an article called 'Seb is Hip Hop'. All a person has to do is turn on
their radio to a mainstream station and they to can get taste of the carnage. Rap and hip–hop are two
of many genres that get a lot of attention for their violence, drug use, and degrading sexism towards
women. Hip–hop started to gain a lot of attention in the 80's to convey equality against racism.

It makes a claim that a person has to be willing to pay the price if they want to look the part. In some
cases the child's family cannot afford all of those expensive clothes. The child is upset that he or she

think twice because the rapper that they idolize might even say its ok to steel. Drugs and alcohol
play a big part in rap as well. Trying to listen to a rap song without drugs in it is like trying to find a
needle in a haystack. When the artists rhymes about their street life they go on and on about how
they are never sober. An article on the web called "The Impact of Rap and Hip–Hop Music On

Mardon Brothers Chapter Summaries
It all began in Central City. A forensic scientist for the C.C.P.D (Central City Police Department)
was at the scene of a murder by the infamous Mardon Brothers, two criminals who can rob banks in
the blink of an eye. The scientist's name is Barry Allen, and even though he looks happy and
cheerful, he's tormented. When he was 11 years old, his mother was murdered by an unknown force
known as "the man in the yellow suit." Barry said he saw red and yellow lightning surrounding his
mother as she screamed in the center of their living room. His dad told his "little slugger three words
he would never forget: "Run, Barry, run!" and was whisked away about a mile from his house by the
mysterious yellow lightning. By the time Barry got home, it ... Show more content on

Iris is dating Joe's new partner, Eddie Thawne, because Joe's old partner was shot in the face chasing
the Mardon brothers. They tried to escape by plane but the blast from the particle accelerator cut
their flight short and ended the Mardons once and for all (or did it?). Barry also finds that he is not
the same when he sees a waitress at CC Jitters, a café where Iris works, drop a tray in slow motion
and later at the police station where he super–speeds to stop a criminal from taking a cop's gun, and
in an alley behind the station where he super–speeds into a mattress truck. Barry then goes back to
the scientists at S.T.A.R Labs (Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow) to tell them what happened to him
and to train his newfound powers, but while he was running, he had a flashback (no pun intended) of
his mother and saw the face of the man in the yellow suit and, distracted by this memory, he runs
into a barrel and fractures a limb. Luckily, with super–speed comes super–healing. He later runs into
the man who robs banks followed by freak weather storms, who turns out to be Clyde Mardon, who
did not die in the plane crash, but gained weather powers. When Barry tried to tell Joe, he grew
frustrated at Barry's crazy supernatural theories: "There's no controlling the weather, Barry. Just

How Do We Work For Death?
"I know it's a lot to take in. but hey at least it explains for a lot of things right? In fact looking at it
now my boss would love to have you on staff, should you be looking for some stability."
He was silent for a few seconds before asking the obvious question,
"Who's your boss?" I shrugged nonchalantly.
"Death."
Still in shock Aaron remained silent.
"no more questions? Good lets move this along. We are a dying breed and whatever is left of us is
being killed off which isn't exactly a good thing so now I'll turn it over to Father Luccia who
hopefully has a game plan. As for me I have to go but keep me informed..."
"Death?" Aaron said as if barely coming out of a fog.
"What do you mean you work for death?" I sighed.
"I work for Death how hard is it to understand?"
"What do you mean?" he asked again.
"Death as in Death. The Grim Reaper, the big D, no pun intended. I'm a reaper I take souls to be
judged."
Still obviously confused Aaron continued with his infuriating questions.
"how did you get a job like that?" he asked. out of nowhere a strong but delicate feminine voice
echoed his answer.
"because she's evil." Mika said with a gloating stare.
I feigned a scared jump and clutched my heart mockingly as I shrieked.
"Jesus! For a minuet there I thought the furniture was talking!"
Mika narrowed her eyes in anger, which her brother mimicked perfectly. Twins.

notice."

A Brief Note On Racketeering And Drug Dealing Was A...
The year was 2024 and Chicago was deteriorating. It was a poverty–stricken city with a high crime
rate. Racketeering and drug dealing were common. The city looked like something straight out of a
dystopian blockbuster, with the small number of high–rises still holding the millionaires and
billionaires, but below them the withering city that Chicago was, slumped. The streets were littered
with newspaper fragments and empty soda cans. It was a terrible day for a walk, but I had gone
anyways to pick up dinner. I walked quietly down the street below an abandoned L track, avoiding
the garbage and pigeons circling at my feet. The city was strangely noisy and there were more
people than usual lingering in the alleyways and businessmen ... Show more content on

I didn't necessarily want to, but that was really my only option unless I wanted to join the Mafia–
which, for the record, I had no intention of ever doing.
The police had let dealing get out of hand and now they were trying to crack (no pun intended)
down on the drug dealers, hoping it would make a dent in the Mafia, with their racketeering
schemes and things. So I suspected I was being followed, with microphones or even cameras put in
and around the building I usually crashed in. I walked around on the cold cement floor. I was careful
not to have my eyes dart around or to pause in the middle of the room, in order to not look
suspicious. So I continued with my usual routine. I did try to (secretly) look for the cameras, though.
No luck there. Looking for cameras while trying not to look like it, was hard. I didn't bother looking
for the microphones. (Those would be well hidden and I would have to search the entire building for
them.) I decided for the time being that I would not be dealing. I sat down the beat up couch, shut
my eyes and thought about how much I screwed up my life, and how to get out of this situation.
There was the option of disappearing but that was almost impossible, considering how little money I
had and where I lived. I could also turn myself in. That, I was really unsure of. I had been in binds
before, but never one like this. I had literally two options. There was less than a 50/50 chance that I
would be able to disappear and

Film Analysis: The Hudsucker Proxy
The title of the movie is The Hudsucker Proxy. It was directed by two directors by the names of
Ethan Coen, and Joel Coen, often known as the Coen brothers. The film is a comedy that was made
in the year 1994. Formalism seems to be used as opposed to realism, as the imagery and situations
seem to be taken from the minds of the creators of the movie, rather than from real life. The
principle actors, and actress of the movie are Tim Robbins, Jeniffer Jason Leigh, and Paul Newman.

It is set in an exterior location, outside of a very tall building, in the middle of a very large city (New
York City, NY to be exact). The scene takes place in the late night as snow slowly falls from the sky
onto the street below. The scene involves five characters from the movie, Norville Barnes (Tim
Robbins), Waring Hudsucker (Charles Durning), Moses (Bill Cobbs), Sidney Mussburger (Paul

Barnes, as he holds onto the side if a tall building. The first shot of this scene is an establishing shot,
showing the main character holding onto the ledge of a tall building , while also showing the
audience just how far the drop from the very top of the building is from the street below. It then cuts
to a short shot of Sidney Mussburger, laughing in his office. The next shots in this scene use parallel
editing, and begins cross–cutting from a long shot of the main character falling, then to a close up of
a clock, then back to the main character falling, this time from a medium distance. The scene
continues this style of cutting, showing a shot of the street, then cutting back to Sidney Mussburger,

Essay On Big Cat Public Safety Act
A woman flees from authorities with her collection of tigers, monkeys, a fox, and a skunk – and her
14–year–old daughter who was living under the same roof as the wild animals.
A California couple, whose escaped pet tiger prowled neighborhoods for weeks before finally being
shot and killed by authorities, quickly packed their things up and fled with the rest of their big cat
collection in tow.
What does these two as well as dozens of other cases all have in common? The people all wind up in
one state, Nevada.
While 45 out of the 50 states that make up America have laws forbidding people from owning exotic
wildlife there are five that have no such rules.
Like Nevada the four other states Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Wisconsin have no
standards nor statewide laws restricting private possession of dangerous wild animals.

any gaps in states like Nevada who just lost their damn minds and never passed any legislation on

Until the state takes action, there can only be two outcomes. The Big cat act gets passed or there will

The Superiority Theory Of Humor
There are many ways that people use humor. It has been used both in positive and negative ways.
The negative, or more aggressive, view of humor is "evident in ancient writings" and "in the
merciless teasing that children inflict on one another.", However, in modern times, humor is now
commonly seen as a positive aspect and that the laughter that arises is the "expression [an]
incongruity." Because of these two conflicting view of humor, there have been multiple theories
proposed to explain it.
There are two major theories in explaining humor. The first is the superiority theory. In line with the
past views on humor, the superiority theory takes on a much more negative, serious, and intense take
on how humor functions and why we laugh. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory focuses "more specifically on the cognition and [gives] less attention to the social and
emotional aspects of humor." The incongruity–resolution theory can be applied to many forms of
humor. One example is visual incongruities. We laugh when we see a young child try to act like an
adult around an even younger child. The incongruity is we expect the young child to still act
immaturely around the small child but does not. The resolution is that the young child is playing
make–believe or somehow trying to impress the younger child.
The second type of incongruity is through wordplay. Prime examples are puns. For example, George
Carlin said, "Atheism is a non–prophet institution." The incongruity is found in the meaning of non–
prophet and nonprofit. Atheism is known as the lack of belief or denial of a higher
being/God/religion. So, non–prophet relates to the meaning of atheism. However, non–prophet also
sounds a lot like nonprofit. In the pun, atheism is called an institution. Based off how prophet and
profit sound the same, atheism could also be considered a nonprofit institution. It is, in the pun, both
an institution that does not believe in God and an institution whose primary goal is not to make
money. Unlike the superiority theory, the incongruity–resolution theory makes it explicit that these
examples of humor are all in a safe environment or

The Death Of The Frog Croaks
When The Frog Croaks At five years old, most children have no specific group they fit into.
Everyone is their friend and their best friends change with the passing days. It was much like that
for me, but I decided to become best friends with Martin (name changed to protect privacy) during
the most coincidentally horrific time. Martin was a boy with wavy brown hair, light brown eyes, and
the spirit of an adventurer. Nothing scared him, and as I 'd learn very quickly, there was a very good
reason for that. He and I happened to be by the fence at the same moment when the animal caught
our eye. It was a frog, but it was moving very strangely, it 's hop: more of a flop. It croaked, the
sound startling both Martin and I, and we looked up at each other. He was delighted to see the frog,
but I was more concerned about the horrible noise it was making. Martin reached down and picked
it up, the frog struggling in his tight grip. I warned him to be careful, and we both examined the
oddly bent back leg. We figured it was broken, and the frog was most likely in a lot of pain. Martin
put the frog on the ground and pet it gently. He told me that it would be best if we killed the frog
now, rather than allow it to suffer any further. There was no way I was going to let him kill the frog;
it was still alive. I offered that we take care of it, at least until it got better. His argument went like
this: If the frog doesn 't die, one of us will. He was reluctant, but eventually gave in. Yet,

My First Year Of My Life
Looking back on the last year of my life, I realize no one has any guarantees. There is no assurance
life will be normal, living in an apple pie manner, growing up, marrying, and having children. My
father died when I turned 16, leaving me with mom. Not wanting to relinquish the lifestyle she
preferred, she remarried within six months to an older man who appeared to love her, taking them
on cruises and lavishing her with expensive gifts. She was his doll, a beautiful woman on his arm
who made him the envy of their social set. Introduced as a young ingénue, I would follow in my
mother's footsteps.
Traveling seemed exciting... the clothes, the places we would visit, missing school. Mom hired a
tutor, so from then on, my schooling took place on airplanes, hotel rooms, and occasionally, home in
Virginia. When mom stated we were leaving for Vermont, I was ecstatic. The colors, the smells, the
country atmosphere drew me like a magnet.
If only I had known what waited there for me.
We pulled in front of our luxury hotel. Nothing but the best as my mother always said. I craved
normalcy, anything but the constant bling. A valet parked our car and we were on our way to our
suite, and what a suite it was. The mountains gleamed and nothing could have been more beautiful
and the shades of autumn were a feast for my eyes. I found myself on the balcony breathing in the
fresh air, imagining a cottage in the woods surrounded by nature's beauty when mom interrupted,
"Tara, come in. We need to

This song is about a cynical rokurokubi who befriends an unsuspecting human from the Human

Sekibanki can't just go around revealing herself if she wants to keep living undercover, and second
of all because Sekibanki is explicitly characterized as being among the more reclusive youkai who

An Assignment On Occupational Therapy
Interviewing someone in our field was an assignment that I really looked forward to. My pseudo–
aunt (my late grandfather's second fiancé's daughter... no really!) is an occupational therapist whom
I had met briefly during a funeral. I spoke with her only for a moment and expressed that I had an
interest in occupational therapy, and she gave me her number to ask any questions. This assignment
the perfect gateway to give her a call! I hoped to gain more knowledge about occupational therapy
from the perspective of someone who is completely invested in the field, and not only professors in
the therapeutic recreation department. Miss Amy Hauxwell is a registered occupational therapist at
Mendelson Kornblum Orthopedic and Spine Specialists in Livonia, Michigan. She works as a hand
and elbow specialist, so her clients are people with those types of injuries or deformities. She
graduated from Western Michigan University with a Master's degree in occupational therapy.
Intriguing to me was the reason she chose occupational therapy as a career, which was actually the
same thought process as my own: we love helping people and liked the medical field idea, but are a
bit squeamish around blood; so the therapy field is a perfect fit. I asked Amy the hardest and the
easiest part of the job, and got a few answers that I can apply directly into my following endeavors.
She took the latter part of that question very literally. I asked her what the easiest aspect of her job
was, and she replied

Washington Square Allegory Analysis
Washington Square as an Allegory of the Cruel Consequences of the Excesses of Rationalism
It is common to find literary critics and scholars underlining Henry James' dislike of allegory. The
following section of James' book, Hawthorne, is often quoted as evidence of this:
I frankly confess that I have as a general thing but little enjoyment of it [allegory] and that it has
never seemed to me to be, as it were, a first–rate literary form...it is apt to spoil two good things––a
story and a moral; a meaning and a form.... (Hawthorne 23)
It is based on this quote that Joan Bennett claims that it would be wrong to read the works of James
as allegory (16). But Bennett is wrong. Washington Square has many concrete features of narrative
allegory. As an allegory, it is an explicit warning about he evil consequences of the excesses
rationalistic worldviews, especially when the latter include the belittling of all that is not rational.
Dr. Sloper, is the literal personification of those excesses.
I
There are various reasons why James may have experimented with allegory and its narrative forms
in Washington Square. The first is that the general claim that James hated allegory is an incomplete
reading of what James wrote about it in Hawthorne. In the lines that immediately follow the text
quoted above, he adds: "The only cases in which it is endurable is when it is extremely spontaneous,
when the analogy presents itself with eager promptitude" (23), and Hawthorne, he notes, uses
allegory

Designing A Building A Project Manager
The first thing I think of when I hear "Interconnected World" I think of a man with an idea. This
man is an architect, who wants to build an enormous building. To start the "building process" (no
pun intended) he would need to draw out a plan of what this building is going to look like. Using his
art skills he would draw out a diagram of what the building would look like inside and out to make
sure it is pleasing to the eye. Then he and an engineer would have to use math to scale out the
drawing into real life to make sure the building is structurally sound. He would also need to hire a
project manager to watch over the project, and he has the responsibility of making sure the project is
running smoothly. To begin the actual assembling of the building he would need to get it approved
by the city or county the building would be built in. He would also need a lawyer to sort out the
legal and political issues. The engineer has to approve the structure and make sure it's safe for
people to be in. Their would also need to be an accountant to use his math skills for budgeting. Once
the county approves all of the legal, structural, and money details, it can start being built. Now we
can start the building process. In the building process there will need to be a contractor who
specializes in construction management, as well as an engineer to plan and make sure it is perfect
before assembled. Once the major structural parts of the building are set, they can begin with

Victor Frankenstein Moral Analysis
Victor Frankenstein seemingly goes through several moral pitfalls throughout Mary Shelley's novel.
Between playing God and inviting life to be placed upon a concoction of otherwise left–over body
parts, or, completely abandoning the Creature during its first second of life. Is either one morally
correct? No. But in my opinion, one is far worse than the other. Frankenstein is equally as defiant of
that of a teenager. As soon as he is told not to do something, there is no turning back, and he must
then follow through with his plan. For example, when he is told by both his father and more
forwardly so by his professor, M. Krempe, that "Every minute, every instant that you have wasted
on those books is utterly and entirely lost" after he mentioned his studies of natural philosopher's
Cornelius Agrippa, Albertus Magnus, and Paracelsus, Frankenstein immediately finds another
professor who enables his interests and urges him to continue, which he does. However, that all soon
spirals out of control and he finds himself in his laboratory day in and day out, obsessively carrying
out his experiment, until finally, he sparks life into his new creature. Playing God, when one is in
fact a mere human, can never have a good outcome. We as humans have a nasty habit of wanting
instant gratification, and in this case, to also prove the naysayers wrong. As human, there is no way
for Frankenstein to ever understand every possible outcome that may occur after this creature is
brought into the

Realism In Swan Lake
Nope. I'm taking the plots at their word. Indeed, I take plots both literally and seriously ()
because in narrative forms like story ballets they are the engine of meaning. This has nothing to do
with "realism" in the sense of absolute fidelity to observed reality: a work can be both fantastical
and serious at once provided it is intellectually consistent. That's what proper world–building is all
about. What I'm arguing is that Swan Lake doesn't have the kind of intellectual, moral, or
psychological consistency that, say, Giselle and La Sylphide have, despite the fact that both of the
latter rely heavily on the supernatural. I think this makes them better ballets, but of course your
mileage may vary. (If I never saw Swan Lake again, my life would not be materially altered for the
worse, but I'd be absolutely disconsolate at the thought of losing La Sylphide, which I think is just
about the most perfect story ballet ever.)
Swan Lake's plot has the following key drivers:
1) Odette is under an enchantment from which she can only be released by an unbroken vow of first
and true love.
2) Prince Siegfried must choose a bride at his 21st birthday ball, because that's what grown–up
princes do.
3) Rothbart tricks Siegfried into breaking his vow to Odette via a ruse –– disguising his daughter
Odile so that she looks like Odette –– perpetrated at the very ball at which Siegfried must choose his
bride.
4) Siegfried rushes off to beg forgiveness for his (presumed) betrayal.
5) Note that there is no ending here! More on that below.
(I'm talking about the 1895 libretto; the 1877 version is rather different in a number of key respects,
including Benno's not being fooled by Odile and a rather grim ending which features neither
redemption nor the triumph of true love over evil. It's a better plot.)
So, Siegfried thinks he's (ahem no pun intended) killing two birds with one stone: he's being true to
both Odette and his social obligation to marry. Siegfried isn't undone because he thinks Odile is
smokin' hot; he's undone because he thinks she's Odette. In essence, Rothbart gets him on a
technicality. As far as I'm concerned, this makes the ballet hollow at its core. We are set up to
believe that

Freedom : Religion, Freedom, And Freedom
When America adopted the term Freedom, as far back as the country's founding. To how we as a
nation obtained freedom and the patriots who had to fight several wars in order to continue to
possess it. As citizens and members of a society, we are extremely fortunate to have several different
types of freedoms. Although this is a good thing in some cases, there comes to a point where too
much freedom can be dangerous because there would essentially be no protection for the people. To
prevent this from happening, we give up particular freedoms and swap it for safety. The freedoms
that are most important to me are religion, economic, education, and gun control. With that being
said, there should be the same "restriction" on each of the freedoms, no acts of violence will be
condoned. Supporting religious freedom is the fundamental right to practice your preferred religion
or no religion. When separating the church and state, it avoids religious clashing that is known to
have torn other nations apart. The benefits are providing a sense of meaning, purpose, and identity.
However, if the government was to not impede on the freedom of religion, they can't penalize you.
For example, in some cases where people might perform an unethical act, such as sacrifices, they
can change their religion to the one that fits their beliefs and has okayed their actions. By not having
this freedom regulated can justify people's religion as an excuse for their wrongdoings. We should
be allowed to

Shakespeare Sonnet 138
Justifying Mutual Deceit A common conception of William Shakespeare's poetry entails complex
language and hidden meanings. Shakespeare is famous for his ability to author a web of images that
creates layers of interpretations and understandings. In Sonnet 138 however, Shakespeare is more
direct in describing his relationship with his lover by avoiding imagery and metaphors, explaining to
the reader that this seemingly unconventional relationship is indeed justified. Shakespeare constructs
a persona of the speaker in a way that establishes a casual and conversational relationship with the
reader. This allows for an open disclosure of the mutual hypocrisies between himself and his lover
while leaving his steadfast candor to convince the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare makes sure the reader comprehends this different definition of love through
straightforward and conversational language, simply stating that "...love's best habit is in seeming
trust" (11) and "in our faults by lies we flattered be" (14). Shakespeare's speaker tells the reader
everything they need to know about the relationship, including the mutual hypocrisies on the
surface, and aptly explains the reasons for them so that the reader can understand this self–serving
idea of comfort and love. Shakespeare is asserting that love is not set in stone, but fluctuates based
on the differing needs of individuals and couples. Since both parties involved in this relationship are
receiving what they desire, they form a perfect bond, and the reader accepts this bond because the
speaker honestly and sincerely explains its functionality.
The mood of the speaker is also vital for the reader's understanding of the poem. As the poem
begins, the speaker seems to be defensive about his position in the relationship, making sure the
reader knows that he understands that his lady is unfaithful, and when the speaker asserts that if he
understands "false subtleties," of course he can see through his lady's lies. In the second quatrain,

Class Participation
How did the discussion go?
The discussion went well. The topic I covered was over how policy is implemented and the tools
needed to achieve the end goal, which is success. I open the floor with a simple acronym I was
taught in Grad school, which is "K.I.S.S" Keep it simple stupid. It is my opinion that anyone can
recite words learned or heard; however, to have a mutual debate, or conversation both parties should
understand the verbiage. This way the other party does not assume the conversation is belittling. I
also displayed the page number on the all power–points to simplifying the initiative to everyone
being on the same page [no pun intended]. I was quite nervous and reading the power points seemed
to be a bit tedious for me. My classmate answered questions immediately. Congress enacts the law,
does not result with action from governmental agencies, or the compliance on the part of the
[people's] behavior the policy seeks to change. Classmates' opinions agreed with this statement. The
literature also states the initial debate over policy is, therefore about whether something really is a
problem, to what extent it is a problem, who it affects, and so on p300. Well the conversation veered
today military opinions and answers were expressed per military experience as an employee of the
government. E.E. Schattschneider chimed in with the statement the definition of the problem is

The Scarlet
The autumn sky gave a brisk cool wind. Scarlet loved this time of year. Going for many adventures
through the local forest, the leaves had already started turning colors. Beautiful crimson red, citron

which had already fallen. They would crinkling under her feet with every step she took. Scarlet

William had stormed out of the room, out of the manor and into the Fox Run Forest, which
coincidentally, connects to Deer Land Forest at its eastern most point. He was muttering to himself
and kicking the leaves beneath his feet. He seemed to be lacking attention to the ominous cloud
which seemed to be following him with every step he takes. This was a time when he wished he had

His father was sure to remind him everyday! For some strange reason he felt the guilt that he knew

A book claimed that men transmogrified into fearsome creatures once the moon appeared. Another

College Admissions Essays – A Photograph
Attach a small photograph (3.5 x 5 inches or smaller) of something important to you and explain its
significance.
At an age when my friends' floors were strewn with toys, dirty clothes, or video–game cartridges,
mine was smothered in paper of all sorts – books, magazines, reams of white and college–ruled,
paper bags, paper airplanes. This pattern has survived, and it is representative of the way I live. The
house of my life is built on a foundation of paper.
Certainly this element is crucial in all our lives. From money to facial tissues to news to playing
cards, paper is a vital organ of the body politic. And I, as a student, laden with schoolwork (and

At the age of thirteen, I caused myself some jaw trouble through excessive use of paper as a
substitute for chewing gum, though I have largely overcome that habit. In prescribing the role of
paper, I can be picky – college–ruled, never wide–ruled, because more words fit on the former – but
I can also be flexible – using napkins to scribble visual aids during mealtime conversation.
But as significant as what I chose for this photograph is what I did not choose. Fancier objects
would have been inappropriate, because ostentatious materialism is meaningless to me. Sure, a few
of the habits I have acquired require more expensive materials – programming is difficult to do, and
impossible to do usefully, in the absence of a computer; likewise for chess without a board or pieces
– but, for the most part, my interests require little more than scribbling equipment. I am a believer in
resourcefulness. Do as much as you can with the facilities at your disposal, I say; hence, armed with
paper and pens, I can (in theory) keep myself entertained all day. In the mathematical world, greater
value is attached to a proof of a difficult theorem if it uses only the most elementary techniques;
perhaps my inheritance of this esthetic is reflected in my preference for building a life from the
simple tools of paper and pens. I spurn more elaborate equipment. Why use a calculator when you
can do computations

I've been working as a professional retoucher for many years. Now I mostly work on fashion and
beauty ads, but I've done everything, including product and car ads. With fashion work, I don't do a

or make the legs a little skinnier, but not anything too crazy. There is a lot of body distortion, and

Impact of Big Business on Politics and the Economy Essay
After the Civil war, large businesses ruled America. Prior to the industrial revolution, the
government upheld a hands–off approach towards business. Under the laissez–faire principle, free,
unregulated markets led to competition, yet this system suffered under the wrath of growing
corporations. The impact of big business on the economy and politics was immense during 1870 to
1899. Corporations were growing significantly in number and size, which had a domineering affect
on American economy and defined American life. The growing corporations in America dominated
most of the economy, creating a large gap between the rich and the poor. During this time period

This illustrates that the Senate is controlled by big business, and how easily wealthy people had
power over the government. Moreover, the railroad presidents were seen as kings, they could delay
lawsuits, control the government and the people, corrupt communities, and control the press (DOC
B). Important railroad companies dictated government policies because the legal system favored
railroad interests. Further, trying to better the political system, the Populist Party made themselves
known. Their platform demanded that the government be restored to the hands of the "plain people."
They wanted to end oppression, injustice, and poverty (DOC F). Evidently, they were dedicated to
political and social reform, and urged that the government be strengthened and take responsibility of
the people. The harsh working conditions resulting from industrialization drove laborers to organize
into unions. Economist David A. Wells compares working in a factory to working in the military
because workers are taught to perform one single task. Moreover, manufacturing has largely taken
away workers' pride in their work (DOC C). Mass production techniques led to specialization of
labor, which subsequently decreased workers' pride in their craft, as well as left workers largely
unskilled. Further Samuel Gompers, founder of the AF to L, addressed the International Labor
Congress in Chicago and stated that people should not be considered property. He advocated that

Self Care In Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree
At one point in a person's life, one usually finds a companion so strong they would do anything for
them. At least, there is a common misconception that one can give their all to somebody they care
for, simply because they care. The downside is, the relationship turns for the worse. When the giver
gives, the taker becomes greedy, and often times, the giver sticks around even when they are being
clearly exploited. Being taken advantage of and naivety come together hand in hand. Therefore, in
Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree, the Tree is naive and being taken advantage of because she puts
the Boy's happiness and well–being ENTIRELY above her own, ultimately leading to her self
destruction. The Boy also habitually returns to reap the benefits of the Tree ... Show more content on

Boy; she never seemed to be complete by herself. Thus, when the little Boy wanted money, she gave
her fruits to him to sell. She gifted her branches to him, so that he could build the house he wanted.
Then she gifted her trunk, so that the Boy could sail away in his own boat. By the time the Boy had

vitally important to remove toxicity in your life. Somebody who drains you of energy is toxic. The

Good evening everyone. My name is Quinn Stewart, and it is my honor to be speaking here as your
President for the Scarborough High School Class of 2017. Before I move on with my speech, there

Finally, I would like to thank all of you: the Class of 2017. You all have made sure that we aren't
deepening the divisions of the past, but rather building a stronger future; one where we aren't judged
by what we look like, what we believe in or who we say 'I love you' to, but rather by how we

Comparing Feste's Use Of Polysemy And Homonymy '
Wordplay is an important and frequently used component of Shakespeare's written works. Aside
from being a common approach by other Elizabethan writers, the puns have been used to provide
comic relief, to build up tension, to provoke thoughts, and to clarify or explain. More than once do
the puns either create a clear picture of the emotions in the scene or furthermore allow the audience
to develop their own thoughts about what is truly occurring. 'Pure lexical ambiguity derives mainly
from two sources: polysemy and homonymy' (Su 1994: 32), and as inferred from Cabanillas (1999:
31–36), those two are the starting point for nearly all of the prevalent and mentioned kinds of puns.
There is a fine line between the two: Polysemy refers to the coexistence ... Show more content on

The fusion of words or their sounds, referred to by others as portmanteau, may fall under this.
Similar to the example provided by Cabanillas wherein Cleopatra's "intrinsicate" brings together the
meanings of "intricate" and "intrinsic", an example of such pun is also seen in Hamlet. "Eats not the
flats with more impetuous haste" is quoted from Shakespeare. And as M.Mahood commented on the
particular line: 'The Messenger in Hamlet likens Laertes' invasion of the palace to the ocean's
'inpittious haste' because he is both impetuous and pitiless to those who bar his way' (1988: 16) the
blending definitions of 'acting without care' and 'cruelness' work as suggestions that lead to the word
"haste" and also provide an insight into the character's personality. In Act I Scene III of Julius
Caesar, "I met a lion/ who glazed upon me" ambiguously indicates whether the lion's fixed look is of
admiration and eager or its counterpart of intense and angry

Research Paper On Texting Puns
One of the most recent types of puns is texting pun, challenged by a rapid development of social
networks. Alphabetic, numeric, and simplified spelling produce texting puns well. These depend on
the increasingly universal tradition of using the sound and/or spelling of alphabet letters, numbers or
symbols, or simplified spelling as a way to display or "spell" a word. Cases may be "cre8" for the
word "create", or "@mosphere" for "atmosphere". When we spot a texting pun, we immediately try
to decipher it, and if we cannot comprehend its meaning, then we quietly "sound it out" in our
heads, envisioning how it may sound, and eventually understand the joke.
New texting puns are coined and implemented in everyday speech constantly as people are way too
attached to their electronic devices, thus they search for ever more economical and practical ways to
transmit their messages. In the popular American car insurance commercial one may find "0 CRDT
CHX", which is a great example of a texting pun. To comprehend this correctly, we rationally
substitute the first symbol with the word "zero", then insert the missing vowels for the word
"credit", and imbed the missing vowel and adjust the spelling for the third arrangement of letters, to
receive the word "checks." Merged together, the slogan "Zero Credit Checks" instructs a potential
consumer that one can buy this car insurance without struggling with any credit checks. ... Show

This serves to simplify the powerful role of structure, allowing the speaker to fully pull the reader
into the sonnet and clearly focus on the characters and the overall message.
Shakespeare begins 138 with a bold formation of the speaker's character. The speaker has an almost
omniscient quality about him as he claims that he "know[s] she lies" (2) and that he is well versed
"in the world's false subtleties" (4). However, at the same time, the reader questions how wise this
speaker actually is because of his confused relationship with his lover. The speaker willingly accepts
her lies by feigning his own simple–mindedness so that his love "might think me some untutored
youth" (3), in other words, believe that he is younger than he actually is. The speaker then explores
the assertions made in the first quatrain in the second as the speaker questions his own decision
making process, referring to it as "vain" (5) and saying that "she knows" (5) of his true age. The
speaker goes on to

Example Of Persuasive Speech On Driving
When you turn 16, you reach a very big milestone. Driving! On your 16th birthday, you are able to
get your permit. Every teenager looks forward to the moment they can finally drive, even if it is with
a parent in the car. Since I am one of the oldest in my grade, I was able to get my permit in
November of 2015. I got my license on May 20th, and have been... almost successful with it. Now, I
am going to share with you a couple guidelines for when you begin driving. This isn't meant to
dissuade you from driving *at all*, or getting in the car with me. But I will say that my experiences
have been a little more than interesting in the road to get my license and after I got it. No pun
intended. So buckle up, I'm about to discuss how driving has ... Show more content on

Well, fear is natural. Things will happen to you, some may be terrible, and some will be like nothing
you have ever experienced. You have to make the most of it. It doesn't matter if you're driving,
starting a new adventure, or something else. I can't begin to tell you the amazing drives I've had in
summer with my sun roof down and music blaring with my friend in the passenger seat, chatting
about everything and nothing. These are the moments I appreciate the most with being able to drive:
the freedom. Your hair whips around you and it is the perfect temperature outside. Appreciate and
make the most of these moments, because they are fleeting. Thank

The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang
For decades the Big Bang theory has been the leading theory on the beginning of our universe.
Alternate theories come and go, but mainly go. As new data and research are continually eliminating
alternatives to the standard model of cosmology, the Big Bang just keeps getting stronger.
Before discussing the alternate theories to the Big Bang theory, the basics of the early universe
should first be understood. The main points opposing the theory are based around a few aspects that
will be defined in the explanation of the early universe. These points include inflation, dark matter
and dark energy, the cosmic microwave background (CMB), and red shift.
The theory states that the universe sprung from a singularity – an ... Show more content on

These stars burned so hot that they would have emitted both visible light and huge amounts of UV
radiation. This radiation would have been able to break up hydrogen atoms, ending the "dark ages."
However, these super hot stars could not live long enough to produce this effect. They burned hot
and fast, and died after only a million years. The smaller dying stars exploded, shooting material
into space, and the larger stars collapsed to create black holes.
The reactions within these huge stars created new elements, heavier elements such as oxygen and
carbon. Lemonick (2006) explains how these elements allowed the gaseous clouds to collapse this
time into much smaller stars than their predecessors, stars like our sun. "And like the sun, they
would have started out generating lots of ultraviolet light before settling down to a more sedate
existence" (p. 4). These smaller stars had the lifespan to be able to ionize the hydrogen. It was at this
time that the dark ages came to an end. Some scientists theorize that it was X–rays and UV light
spewed from black holes that brought a close to this dark time, but perhaps it was both of these
theories that finally brought light to our universe.
As more complex telescopes are being created, scientists can get closer to observing the formation
of early galaxies. In visual observation, redshift now comes into play. Edwin Hubble discovered in
the 1920s that the light of far away galaxies have a wavelength that has been

Hiking Narrative
To my surprise, Katelyn decided that hiking was a great idea, and I guess I should have figured as
much from the get–go that a witch would like to be close to Mother Nature. Because everything I
had heard about Wiccans up to that point, was that they based a good chunk of their religion on the
earth and being one with nature. But for some reason I had given myself the impression that Katelyn
wasn't the sort of girl who'd liked to get down and dirty in the woods. I guess it was her whole Goth
get–up and all the needless makeup she wore. Before leaving the house I had snatched up a
backpack full of my Step Daddy Cade's Genesee beers that I'd pilfered from the refrigerator in the
garage along with a couple of bottles of waters and a bag of ... Show more content on

"Witch, remember? Spells, potions, and all that crazy stuff you don't believe in. When I told you I
worked with all kinds of herbs, you didn't really think I wouldn't have this one, did you?" "No, I
didn't, and now I'm startin' to feel sorry for ever havin' doubted your religion," I told her being
hardly able to contain my giddiness. "Now why don't you work on a spell for gettin' me high?" After
Katelyn had finished rolling us a joint, we sat there passing it back and forth while listening to the
sound of the rushing water make its short plunge over the waterfall. It was definitely nice to just
relax and feel good for a while. "So, what's your story?" I then asked her suddenly curious about
Katelyn's past and her life growing up in this fucked up village. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"You know... how... how...," I said, stammering as I was doing my best to hold in a lungful of smoke
as long as I could. After having finally let it out, the billowing smoke came accompanied by a small
cough that I quickly got under control before asking her my question again and passing her back the
joint. "You know... how did you get into witchcraft, and how did you meet my grandmother, and
what's the story with the bitches at

  • 5. To Rap Or Not To Rap Essay The music industry is always growing and trying to solicit new music to get higher ratings. "The music industry's role in promoting negative music has been a hot topic for many years. What is too often under reported is how young people, including incarcerated youth, are directly impacted by the music." That quote came from an article called 'Seb is Hip Hop'. All a person has to do is turn on their radio to a mainstream station and they to can get taste of the carnage. Rap and hip–hop are two of many genres that get a lot of attention for their violence, drug use, and degrading sexism towards women. Hip–hop started to gain a lot of attention in the 80's to convey equality against racism. People thought that hip–hop was just a phase, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Mardon Brothers Chapter Summaries It all began in Central City. A forensic scientist for the C.C.P.D (Central City Police Department) was at the scene of a murder by the infamous Mardon Brothers, two criminals who can rob banks in the blink of an eye. The scientist's name is Barry Allen, and even though he looks happy and cheerful, he's tormented. When he was 11 years old, his mother was murdered by an unknown force known as "the man in the yellow suit." Barry said he saw red and yellow lightning surrounding his mother as she screamed in the center of their living room. His dad told his "little slugger three words he would never forget: "Run, Barry, run!" and was whisked away about a mile from his house by the mysterious yellow lightning. By the time Barry got home, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Iris is dating Joe's new partner, Eddie Thawne, because Joe's old partner was shot in the face chasing the Mardon brothers. They tried to escape by plane but the blast from the particle accelerator cut their flight short and ended the Mardons once and for all (or did it?). Barry also finds that he is not the same when he sees a waitress at CC Jitters, a café where Iris works, drop a tray in slow motion and later at the police station where he super–speeds to stop a criminal from taking a cop's gun, and in an alley behind the station where he super–speeds into a mattress truck. Barry then goes back to the scientists at S.T.A.R Labs (Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow) to tell them what happened to him and to train his newfound powers, but while he was running, he had a flashback (no pun intended) of his mother and saw the face of the man in the yellow suit and, distracted by this memory, he runs into a barrel and fractures a limb. In fact looking at it now my boss would love to have you on staff, should you be looking for some stability." He was silent for a few seconds before asking the obvious question, "Who's your boss?" I shrugged nonchalantly. "Death." Still in shock Aaron remained silent. "no more questions? Good lets move this along. We are a dying breed and whatever is left of us is being killed off which isn't exactly a good thing so now I'll turn it over to Father Luccia who hopefully has a game plan. As for me I have to go but keep me informed..." "Death?" Aaron said as if barely coming out of a fog. "What do you mean you work for death?" I sighed. "I work for Death how hard is it to understand?" "What do you mean?" he asked again. "Death as in Death. The Grim Reaper, the big D, no pun intended. I'm a reaper I take souls to be judged." Still obviously confused Aaron continued with his infuriating questions. "how did you get a job like that?" he asked. out of nowhere a strong but delicate feminine voice echoed his answer. "because she's evil." Mika said with a gloating stare. I feigned a scared jump and clutched my heart mockingly as I shrieked. "Jesus! For a minuet there I thought the furniture was talking!" • 11. A Brief Note On Racketeering And Drug Dealing Was A... The year was 2024 and Chicago was deteriorating. It was a poverty–stricken city with a high crime rate. Racketeering and drug dealing were common. The city looked like something straight out of a dystopian blockbuster, with the small number of high–rises still holding the millionaires and billionaires, but below them the withering city that Chicago was, slumped. The streets were littered with newspaper fragments and empty soda cans. It was a terrible day for a walk, but I had gone anyways to pick up dinner. I walked quietly down the street below an abandoned L track, avoiding the garbage and pigeons circling at my feet. The city was strangely noisy and there were more people than usual lingering in the alleyways and businessmen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I didn't necessarily want to, but that was really my only option unless I wanted to join the Mafia– which, for the record, I had no intention of ever doing. The police had let dealing get out of hand and now they were trying to crack (no pun intended) down on the drug dealers, hoping it would make a dent in the Mafia, with their racketeering schemes and things. So I suspected I was being followed, with microphones or even cameras put in and around the building I usually crashed in. I walked around on the cold cement floor. I was careful not to have my eyes dart around or to pause in the middle of the room, in order to not look suspicious. So I continued with my usual routine. I did try to (secretly) look for the cameras, though. No luck there. Looking for cameras while trying not to look like it, was hard. I didn't bother looking for the microphones. (Those would be well hidden and I would have to search the entire building for them.) I decided for the time being that I would not be dealing. I sat down the beat up couch, shut my eyes and thought about how much I screwed up my life, and how to get out of this situation. There was the option of disappearing but that was almost impossible, considering how little money I had and where I lived. I could also turn myself in. That, I was really unsure of. I had been in binds before, but never one like this. I had literally two options. There was less than a 50/50 chance that I would be able to disappear and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Superiority Theory Of Humor There are many ways that people use humor. It has been used both in positive and negative ways. The negative, or more aggressive, view of humor is "evident in ancient writings" and "in the merciless teasing that children inflict on one another.", However, in modern times, humor is now commonly seen as a positive aspect and that the laughter that arises is the "expression [an] incongruity." Because of these two conflicting view of humor, there have been multiple theories proposed to explain it. There are two major theories in explaining humor. The first is the superiority theory. In line with the past views on humor, the superiority theory takes on a much more negative, serious, and intense take on how humor functions and why we laugh. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory focuses "more specifically on the cognition and [gives] less attention to the social and emotional aspects of humor." The incongruity–resolution theory can be applied to many forms of humor. One example is visual incongruities. We laugh when we see a young child try to act like an adult around an even younger child. The incongruity is we expect the young child to still act immaturely around the small child but does not. The resolution is that the young child is playing make–believe or somehow trying to impress the younger child. The second type of incongruity is through wordplay. Prime examples are puns. For example, George Carlin said, "Atheism is a non–prophet institution." The incongruity is found in the meaning of non– prophet and nonprofit. Atheism is known as the lack of belief or denial of a higher being/God/religion. So, non–prophet relates to the meaning of atheism. However, non–prophet also sounds a lot like nonprofit. In the pun, atheism is called an institution. Based off how prophet and profit sound the same, atheism could also be considered a nonprofit institution. It is, in the pun, both an institution that does not believe in God and an institution whose primary goal is not to make money. Unlike the superiority theory, the incongruity–resolution theory makes it explicit that these examples of humor are all in a safe environment or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Death Of The Frog Croaks When The Frog Croaks At five years old, most children have no specific group they fit into. Everyone is their friend and their best friends change with the passing days. It was much like that for me, but I decided to become best friends with Martin (name changed to protect privacy) during the most coincidentally horrific time. Martin was a boy with wavy brown hair, light brown eyes, and the spirit of an adventurer. Nothing scared him, and as I 'd learn very quickly, there was a very good reason for that. He and I happened to be by the fence at the same moment when the animal caught our eye. It was a frog, but it was moving very strangely, it 's hop: more of a flop. It croaked, the sound startling both Martin and I, and we looked up at each other. He was delighted to see the frog, but I was more concerned about the horrible noise it was making. Martin reached down and picked it up, the frog struggling in his tight grip. I warned him to be careful, and we both examined the oddly bent back leg. We figured it was broken, and the frog was most likely in a lot of pain. Martin put the frog on the ground and pet it gently. He told me that it would be best if we killed the frog now, rather than allow it to suffer any further. There was no way I was going to let him kill the frog; it was still alive. I offered that we take care of it, at least until it got better. His argument went like this: If the frog doesn 't die, one of us will. He was reluctant, but eventually gave in. Yet, ... There is no assurance life will be normal, living in an apple pie manner, growing up, marrying, and having children. My father died when I turned 16, leaving me with mom. Not wanting to relinquish the lifestyle she preferred, she remarried within six months to an older man who appeared to love her, taking them on cruises and lavishing her with expensive gifts. She was his doll, a beautiful woman on his arm who made him the envy of their social set. Introduced as a young ingénue, I would follow in my mother's footsteps. Traveling seemed exciting... the clothes, the places we would visit, missing school. Mom hired a tutor, so from then on, my schooling took place on airplanes, hotel rooms, and occasionally, home in Virginia. When mom stated we were leaving for Vermont, I was ecstatic. The colors, the smells, the country atmosphere drew me like a magnet. If only I had known what waited there for me. We pulled in front of our luxury hotel. Nothing but the best as my mother always said. I craved normalcy, anything but the constant bling. A valet parked our car and we were on our way to our suite, and what a suite it was. The mountains gleamed and nothing could have been more beautiful and the shades of autumn were a feast for my eyes. I hoped to gain more knowledge about occupational therapy from the perspective of someone who is completely invested in the field, and not only professors in the therapeutic recreation department. She works as a hand and elbow specialist, so her clients are people with those types of injuries or deformities. Intriguing to me was the reason she chose occupational therapy as a career, which was actually the same thought process as my own: we love helping people and liked the medical field idea, but are a bit squeamish around blood; so the therapy field is a perfect fit. • 29. Washington Square Allegory Analysis Washington Square as an Allegory of the Cruel Consequences of the Excesses of Rationalism It is common to find literary critics and scholars underlining Henry James' dislike of allegory. The following section of James' book, Hawthorne, is often quoted as evidence of this: I frankly confess that I have as a general thing but little enjoyment of it [allegory] and that it has never seemed to me to be, as it were, a first–rate literary form...it is apt to spoil two good things––a story and a moral; a meaning and a form.... (Hawthorne 23) It is based on this quote that Joan Bennett claims that it would be wrong to read the works of James as allegory (16). But Bennett is wrong. Washington Square has many concrete features of narrative allegory. As an allegory, it is an explicit warning about he evil consequences of the excesses rationalistic worldviews, especially when the latter include the belittling of all that is not rational. Dr. Sloper, is the literal personification of those excesses. I There are various reasons why James may have experimented with allegory and its narrative forms in Washington Square. The first is that the general claim that James hated allegory is an incomplete reading of what James wrote about it in Hawthorne. In the lines that immediately follow the text quoted above, he adds: "The only cases in which it is endurable is when it is extremely spontaneous, when the analogy presents itself with eager promptitude" (23), and Hawthorne, he notes, uses allegory ... This man is an architect, who wants to build an enormous building. To start the "building process" (no pun intended) he would need to draw out a plan of what this building is going to look like. Using his art skills he would draw out a diagram of what the building would look like inside and out to make sure it is pleasing to the eye. Then he and an engineer would have to use math to scale out the drawing into real life to make sure the building is structurally sound. He would also need to hire a project manager to watch over the project, and he has the responsibility of making sure the project is running smoothly. To begin the actual assembling of the building he would need to get it approved by the city or county the building would be built in. He would also need a lawyer to sort out the legal and political issues. The engineer has to approve the structure and make sure it's safe for people to be in. Their would also need to be an accountant to use his math skills for budgeting. Once the county approves all of the legal, structural, and money details, it can start being built. Now we can start the building process. In the building process there will need to be a contractor who specializes in construction management, as well as an engineer to plan and make sure it is perfect before assembled. Between playing God and inviting life to be placed upon a concoction of otherwise left–over body parts, or, completely abandoning the Creature during its first second of life. Is either one morally correct? No. But in my opinion, one is far worse than the other. Frankenstein is equally as defiant of that of a teenager. As soon as he is told not to do something, there is no turning back, and he must then follow through with his plan. For example, when he is told by both his father and more forwardly so by his professor, M. Krempe, that "Every minute, every instant that you have wasted on those books is utterly and entirely lost" after he mentioned his studies of natural philosopher's Cornelius Agrippa, Albertus Magnus, and Paracelsus, Frankenstein immediately finds another professor who enables his interests and urges him to continue, which he does. However, that all soon spirals out of control and he finds himself in his laboratory day in and day out, obsessively carrying out his experiment, until finally, he sparks life into his new creature. Playing God, when one is in fact a mere human, can never have a good outcome. We as humans have a nasty habit of wanting instant gratification, and in this case, to also prove the naysayers wrong. • 37. Realism In Swan Lake Nope. I'm taking the plots at their word. Indeed, I take plots both literally and seriously () because in narrative forms like story ballets they are the engine of meaning. This has nothing to do with "realism" in the sense of absolute fidelity to observed reality: a work can be both fantastical and serious at once provided it is intellectually consistent. That's what proper world–building is all about. What I'm arguing is that Swan Lake doesn't have the kind of intellectual, moral, or psychological consistency that, say, Giselle and La Sylphide have, despite the fact that both of the latter rely heavily on the supernatural. I think this makes them better ballets, but of course your mileage may vary. (If I never saw Swan Lake again, my life would not be materially altered for the worse, but I'd be absolutely disconsolate at the thought of losing La Sylphide, which I think is just about the most perfect story ballet ever.) Swan Lake's plot has the following key drivers: 1) Odette is under an enchantment from which she can only be released by an unbroken vow of first and true love. 2) Prince Siegfried must choose a bride at his 21st birthday ball, because that's what grown–up princes do. 3) Rothbart tricks Siegfried into breaking his vow to Odette via a ruse –– disguising his daughter Odile so that she looks like Odette –– perpetrated at the very ball at which Siegfried must choose his bride. 4) Siegfried rushes off to beg forgiveness for his (presumed) betrayal. 5) Note that there is no ending here! More on that below. (I'm talking about the 1895 libretto; the 1877 version is rather different in a number of key respects, including Benno's not being fooled by Odile and a rather grim ending which features neither redemption nor the triumph of true love over evil. It's a better plot.) So, Siegfried thinks he's (ahem no pun intended) killing two birds with one stone: he's being true to both Odette and his social obligation to marry. Siegfried isn't undone because he thinks Odile is smokin' hot; he's undone because he thinks she's Odette. In essence, Rothbart gets him on a

To how we as a nation obtained freedom and the patriots who had to fight several wars in order to continue to possess it. As citizens and members of a society, we are extremely fortunate to have several different types of freedoms. Although this is a good thing in some cases, there comes to a point where too much freedom can be dangerous because there would essentially be no protection for the people. To prevent this from happening, we give up particular freedoms and swap it for safety. The freedoms that are most important to me are religion, economic, education, and gun control. With that being said, there should be the same "restriction" on each of the freedoms, no acts of violence will be condoned. Supporting religious freedom is the fundamental right to practice your preferred religion or no religion. When separating the church and state, it avoids religious clashing that is known to have torn other nations apart. The benefits are providing a sense of meaning, purpose, and identity. However, if the government was to not impede on the freedom of religion, they can't penalize you. For example, in some cases where people might perform an unethical act, such as sacrifices, they can change their religion to the one that fits their beliefs and has okayed their actions. By not having this freedom regulated can justify people's religion as an excuse for their wrongdoings. We should be allowed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Shakespeare is famous for his ability to author a web of images that creates layers of interpretations and understandings. In Sonnet 138 however, Shakespeare is more direct in describing his relationship with his lover by avoiding imagery and metaphors, explaining to the reader that this seemingly unconventional relationship is indeed justified. Shakespeare makes sure the reader comprehends this different definition of love through straightforward and conversational language, simply stating that "...love's best habit is in seeming trust" (11) and "in our faults by lies we flattered be" (14). Shakespeare is asserting that love is not set in stone, but fluctuates based on the differing needs of individuals and couples. Since both parties involved in this relationship are receiving what they desire, they form a perfect bond, and the reader accepts this bond because the speaker honestly and sincerely explains its functionality. The mood of the speaker is also vital for the reader's understanding of the poem. This was a time when he wished he had a mother, someone we know could talk to. She had "gone to the heavens whilst giving birth to him." His father was sure to remind him everyday! For some strange reason he felt the guilt that he knew his father purposely dig into his brain since he could remember! His father never showed him much attention as a young child. Now as a young man, he only does when he feels he must scold him "personally" for "his mischievous ways!!" As William was lost in thought, suddenly, a young girl came rolling from a small hill where William was now standing. Hitting the stunned William and king him to the ground. A book claimed that men transmogrified into fearsome creatures once the moon appeared. Another stated, that the Arcadian king Lycaon was the first werewolf, as a punishment from the king of gods, Zeus. The ancient Norfolk were reputed to have warriors that resembled wolves and channeled their spirits to strengthen themselves in battle. At an age when my friends' floors were strewn with toys, dirty clothes, or video–game cartridges, mine was smothered in paper of all sorts – books, magazines, reams of white and college–ruled, paper bags, paper airplanes. This pattern has survived, and it is representative of the way I live. The house of my life is built on a foundation of paper. Certainly this element is crucial in all our lives. At the age of thirteen, I caused myself some jaw trouble through excessive use of paper as a substitute for chewing gum, though I have largely overcome that habit. In prescribing the role of paper, I can be picky – college–ruled, never wide–ruled, because more words fit on the former – but I can also be flexible – using napkins to scribble visual aids during mealtime conversation. But as significant as what I chose for this photograph is what I did not choose. Fancier objects would have been inappropriate, because ostentatious materialism is meaningless to me. Sure, a few of the habits I have acquired require more expensive materials – programming is difficult to do, and impossible to do usefully, in the absence of a computer; likewise for chess without a board or pieces – but, for the most part, my interests require little more than scribbling equipment. I am a believer in resourcefulness. Do as much as you can with the facilities at your disposal, I say; hence, armed with paper and pens, I can (in theory) keep myself entertained all day. In the mathematical world, greater value is attached to a proof of a difficult theorem if it uses only the most elementary techniques; perhaps my inheritance of this esthetic is reflected in my preference for building a life from the simple tools of paper and pens. The impact of big business on the economy and politics was immense during 1870 to 1899. Corporations were growing significantly in number and size, which had a domineering affect on American economy and defined American life. Further, trying to better the political system, the Populist Party made themselves known. Their platform demanded that the government be restored to the hands of the "plain people." They wanted to end oppression, injustice, and poverty (DOC F). At least, there is a common misconception that one can give their all to somebody they care for, simply because they care. The downside is, the relationship turns for the worse. When the giver gives, the taker becomes greedy, and often times, the giver sticks around even when they are being clearly exploited. Being taken advantage of and naivety come together hand in hand. • 68. Comparing Feste's Use Of Polysemy And Homonymy ' Wordplay is an important and frequently used component of Shakespeare's written works. Aside from being a common approach by other Elizabethan writers, the puns have been used to provide comic relief, to build up tension, to provoke thoughts, and to clarify or explain. More than once do the puns either create a clear picture of the emotions in the scene or furthermore allow the audience to develop their own thoughts about what is truly occurring. 'Pure lexical ambiguity derives mainly from two sources: polysemy and homonymy' (Su 1994: 32), and as inferred from Cabanillas (1999: 31–36), those two are the starting point for nearly all of the prevalent and mentioned kinds of puns. "Eats not the flats with more impetuous haste" is quoted from Shakespeare. And as M.Mahood commented on the particular line: 'The Messenger in Hamlet likens Laertes' invasion of the palace to the ocean's 'inpittious haste' because he is both impetuous and pitiless to those who bar his way' (1988: 16) the blending definitions of 'acting without care' and 'cruelness' work as suggestions that lead to the word "haste" and also provide an insight into the character's personality. • 70. Research Paper On Texting Puns One of the most recent types of puns is texting pun, challenged by a rapid development of social networks. Alphabetic, numeric, and simplified spelling produce texting puns well. These depend on the increasingly universal tradition of using the sound and/or spelling of alphabet letters, numbers or symbols, or simplified spelling as a way to display or "spell" a word. Cases may be "cre8" for the word "create", or "@mosphere" for "atmosphere". When we spot a texting pun, we immediately try to decipher it, and if we cannot comprehend its meaning, then we quietly "sound it out" in our heads, envisioning how it may sound, and eventually understand the joke. New texting puns are coined and implemented in everyday speech constantly as people are way too attached to their electronic devices, thus they search for ever more economical and practical ways to transmit their messages. In the popular American car insurance commercial one may find "0 CRDT CHX", which is a great example of a texting pun. To comprehend this correctly, we rationally substitute the first symbol with the word "zero", then insert the missing vowels for the word "credit", and imbed the missing vowel and adjust the spelling for the third arrangement of letters, to receive the word "checks." Merged together, the slogan "Zero Credit Checks" instructs a potential consumer that one can buy this car insurance without struggling with any credit checks. ... This serves to simplify the powerful role of structure, allowing the speaker to fully pull the reader into the sonnet and clearly focus on the characters and the overall message. As new data and research are continually eliminating alternatives to the standard model of cosmology, the Big Bang just keeps getting stronger. Before discussing the alternate theories to the Big Bang theory, the basics of the early universe should first be understood. The main points opposing the theory are based around a few aspects that will be defined in the explanation of the early universe. This radiation would have been able to break up hydrogen atoms, ending the "dark ages." However, these super hot stars could not live long enough to produce this effect. They burned hot and fast, and died after only a million years. The smaller dying stars exploded, shooting material into space, and the larger stars collapsed to create black holes. The reactions within these huge stars created new elements, heavier elements such as oxygen and carbon. Lemonick (2006) explains how these elements allowed the gaseous clouds to collapse this time into much smaller stars than their predecessors, stars like our sun. "And like the sun, they would have started out generating lots of ultraviolet light before settling down to a more sedate existence" (p. 4). These smaller stars had the lifespan to be able to ionize the hydrogen. It was at this time that the dark ages came to an end. Some scientists theorize that it was X–rays and UV light spewed from black holes that brought a close to this dark time, but perhaps it was both of these theories that finally brought light to our universe.
