Veterans Challenges
Veterans frequently note 'finding a job' as the most difficult task they face when transitioning out of
the service, citing transferring military skills to a civilian professional atmosphere as one of the
primary hurdles. Aside from the difficulties of the current job market, one of the biggest difficulties
Veterans report in finding a job is dictating how their military skills translate to the civilian
professional atmosphere. Nearly all believe they have the skillsets required to land their targeted job,
but most express concerns about how to translate their skills to a civilian business environment.
Many Veterans feel their military service is respected by possible future employers, but still three in

median income is similarly higher than that of both the U.S. population, and their civilian

The FSU Soldier
Young or old, these soldiers are all members of FSU whether current students or alumni. Each
soldier plays a vital role within the unit, the community, and ultimately the mission. These soldiers
epitomize what it means to be a soldier in the United States Army and also be students here at FSU.
Because of all the blood, sweat, and tears that these soldiers put into there job, they are able to
perform a wide range of missions including security operations, route clearance operations, to
breaching and clearing, and medically saving other soldiers lives. These soldiers can be deployed at
any moment, which means they have to put down their textbooks and put away their Seminole hats
and jerseys well later exchanging them with boots and guns. The soldiers of the 344th Engineering
Company use these tactics and abilities to perform the mission and to become victorious in whatever
the assigned task. No matter what journey you embark on, there is always a finish line or goal, in
which you can only hope to reach. Within the life of a Seminole soldier of the 344th Engineering

Argumentative Essay: Women In The Military Prompts
Women In Combat The topic of women in the military prompts a considerable amount of debate.
Plenty of arguments are started because of the military policy that bans women from combat roles
(Women in Combat Pros and Cons). This controversy brings about much discourse because it affects
the whole country, whether directly through a family member or indirectly through the strength of
the military. One opinion is that women are the weaker sex and that permitting them to join the
military could be dangerous. Another opinion is that women should be treated equally and receive
the same rights as men (Women in Combat Pros and Cons List). There were 214,098 women serving
in the U.S. military in 2013; that is 14.6% of the entire branch (Women in ... Show more content on

Many state that mothers should not leave their children without the presence of their mother. This is
very contradictory to the belief in the importance of family and motherhood (Schlafly). Multiple
servicemen say that combat is not just a more intense version of other traditional occupations
(Simons). "No other workplace is so unforgivingly relentless" (Simons). Many people believe that if
men and women can work together in other occupations then they should be able to work together in
combat. One conflict to this is that there are no routine separations in combat like traditional jobs
have. Routine separations, such as being able to go home and be away from your coworkers for the
night, can be very refreshing but servicemen and women do not receive this luxury (Simons). While
tradition may hold that women should be home taking care of their children and men working to
support their family, the modern world is changing. Many previously masculine professions have
been successfully extended to females in the last century (Women in Combat Pros and Cons). Men
and women are able to work proficiently together under stress, in tight quarters, and for long periods
of time in jobs such as construction and operating rooms (Simons). So, men and women should be
able to work together under the stress of combat also. Another subject of discussion is the soldier's
mental health. Many servicemen's sanity may be based on being able to draw a contrast between this
horrific world he is seeing and maybe his wife's or family's peaceful world at home. If they are
seeing women in their unit, they may be more probable to lose their mental stability. Women may
provide something for servicemen to live for beyond the honor, duty, and the grimy men sitting next
to them. With the presence of women, the ideal of a "woman" would never work to give them
mental stability (Simons). Another thing to ponder

An Army White Paper: The Profession Of Arms
An Army White Paper: The Profession of Arms
It is not hard to recognize the professionalism of the United States Army Soldier. The modern
Soldier is not just a weapon for times of conflict. The modern Soldier is a professional, and as such,
has cultivated the Army into a Profession of Arms. Every profession is similar to well–built
building. A well–built building starts with the digging of a foundation. After the foundation has been
cleared, a cornerstone is placed and construction continues. The cornerstone is the place in the
foundation on which the majority of the structure's weight rests. In the Profession of Arms, the

People of different cultures worked, traded and traveled throughout the Empire, contributing to its
power and dynamics. Some Europeans who began to criss–cross the roads with Mughals recorded
themselves in forms of diaries or letters about the people and the lands they encountered on their
journey, which are well preserved today. Europeans such as Sebastien Manrique, Antonio
Monserrate, Jean–Baptiste Tavernier, and William Hawkins recorded their experiences and
observations from fascinating and informative visions travel and life in india during this period and
provide invaluable contribution to our understanding of life at the time.
Sebastien Manrique, a priest who went on a journey to India for missionary work, writes his

constructed article, Manrique keeps his audience in mind by providing exceptionally detailed
experiences that he had on his journey. He is able to portray his journey as if the reader were truly
there alongside him. The reader is able to imagine the drastic situations he went through on his
journey due to the "monsoon floods, voracious mosquitos, appetizing peacocks, violent fever and
affronted villagers – as well as threatening Mughal officials." He is also well aware of what he must

Women In The Military
Women have always played an important role in the U.S Military and continue to, however women
did not officially serve in the US military until the Army and Navy Nurse Corps were established in
1901 and 1908. Prior to that time many women served with the armed forces as contracted and
volunteer nurses, cooks and laundresses (Scott, 2013). During the Revolutionary, Civil and Mexican
Wars, a small number of women were involved in combat, but they had to disguise themselves as
men and enlist under aliases. Deborah Samson Gannett, from Plymouth, Massachusetts, was one of
the first American woman soldiers In 1782, she enlisted under the name of her deceased brother,
Robert Shurtleff Samson. For 17 months, Samson served in the Continental Army during ... Show

Why Is It Important To Work In The Military
¨To serve in the modern military... is to treat the necessary service and sacrifice of war with sacred
honor¨ (¨J.D Vance¨). This quote was said by J.D Vance while talking about the necessary needs for
the military. Members of the U.S military is to maintain the U.S national defense. Although some
service members work in occupations specific to the military, such as a fighter pilot, infantry men.
Many work in occupations that also exists in civilian workplace such as nurses, doctors, and lawyers
(¨bureau of labor statistics¨). The united states military would be a great opportunity because it
allows people to work outdoors, it's also great physical labor, and creates fantastic employment
opportunities.
Some benefits of being in the army reserves is that people get to work outdoors. In the reserves
everyone performs special training. What they mean by that is that everyone gets up early and jogs
three to five miles. Then everyone goes into completing the rope course. (¨They have installation at

Everyone learns how to handle seeing gunfire and hearing explosions. They also go over kombat

Policy Introduction And Identification Of The Military...
Policy Introduction and Identification
In January of 2013, the Department of Defense set aside the "1994 Direct Ground Combat
Definition and Assignment Rule" (Carter, 2015). This takes all restrictions off women allowing all
who meet the qualifications to hold a combat role in the military. The Armed Forces have opened
over 110,000 positions to women and have set their standards. Anyone, who can meet operationally
relevant and gender neutral standards, regardless of gender, should have the opportunity to serve in
any position (Carter, 2015). The Military Services and United States Special Operations Command
(USSOCOM) were directed to implement this new change in policy by January 1, 2016 or submit an
exception to this policy if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the beginning of American history men have fought our battles, but little do people know
women have always been in our nations battles. During the Revolutionary War women follow their
husbands to war, many serve in camps as cooks and nurses but had to obtain permission from the
commanding officer if they proved themselves helpful (U.S. ARMY, 2017). From 1782 to 1783
Deborah Sampson served over a year in General Washington's army disguising herself as a man,
until she was wounded; reveling her true gender and being honorably discharged. Skipping ahead to
1861 the America Civil War, women would serve as administrators of hospitals as well as cooks and
nurses in both the Union and Confederate hospitals. From 1917 to 1918 World War I, women were
allowed to join the military.
Throughout the last 2 years of World War 1 over 33,000 women served as nurses and support staff
officially in the armed forces and more than 400 nurses die or are wounded in the line of duty.
Moving forward to World War II 1941–1945, more than 400,000 women serve at home and abroad
as mechanics, nurses, ambulance drivers, pilots, and other non–combat roles. Eight–eight women
were captured as POW's (prisoners of war). In 1984 Congress passed the Women's Armed Services
Integration Act allowing women permanent military status and entitled to veteran's benefits. In
1950– 1953 over 50,000 women served at home and abroad during the

Why Women Should Not Be Allowed in Combat Occupations Essay
Since 1901, women have served in some form of the military, however, dating back to the American
Revolution women have had an unofficial role. Women have had and will continue to have an
important role in the military, the question is whether women should be allowed to occupy specific
combat positions. Traditionally women have not been allowed in combat occupations, but recently
these restrictions have been somewhat lifted, making certain occupations available to women.
Despite the lift complications arise from women being in combat vocations and it's not just because
of the physical differences, there is also the increased risk of sexual assault. Due to the detrimental
impact on the military, soldiers, and society, women should not ... Show more content on

In January 1994, the "Secretary of Defense Les Aspin overturned the "risk rule" excluding women
from any positions that could expose them to direct combat, hostile fire, or capture; the rule was
replaced by the "direct ground combat assignment rule," which more narrowly tailored the
restriction to front line combat positions." (Mackenzie) According to the 1994 Department of
Defense policy, women were limited from some occupational specialties if those specialties were
physically located with direct ground combat units. According to a press release the Army will begin
implementing the DoD policy. "Removing the restrictions opened 13,139 Army positions to women,
occupations like; Multiple Launch Rocket System crewmember, MLRS operations fire detection
specialist, Field artillery fire finder radar operator specialist, M1 Abrams tank system maintainer,
Bradley Fighting Vehicle system maintainer, and Artillery mechanic." (Wong)
Regardless of the recent policy changes, the distinction between combat and support roles are still
unclear. "Since women are permitted to serve in such support units, a major barrier designed to keep
them away from combat has vanished." (Mackenzie) In today's war there is no clear front line or a
safe area in the rear, making combat support operations

What Soldiers Do Summary
In her book What Soldiers Do: Sex and the American GI in WWII France, Mary Louise Roberts
looks at the intertwining of World War II and sexual expression of American GIs. Far from what the
wholesome magazine of the time Stars and Stripes would print, Roberts delves into the seemingly
consuming nature of the sexual interactions between GIs and mostly French women. Unresponsive
to threats of disease or punishment, soldiers came to see France as the epicenter of sex and
promiscuity. Though Roberts outlines other relationships soldiers had between children and other
citizens of France, she emphasizes that the preconceived notion of the so–called easiness of French
women plus the seemingly primitive culture and weakness of men noticed upon the GI's arrival
warped Franco–American Relations. As André Siegfried noticed, Americans were thrust into global

With extensive support from personal journals, police records, comics, and photographs, Roberts
paints the relationship between GIs and French women. She begins with GIs as liberators and the
American Romanticization of their occupation of France. Though truly the American Military
disrupted French autonomy and governance, through steamy photos of Frenchwomen bestowing
kisses on soldiers the Military is able to paint a picture of GIs' benevolence and appeal. Roberts
indicates an instance where women expressed fear of men's infidelity after seeing those photos,
reaffirming GIs' masculinity and confidence while putting anxiety and inferiority onto the backs of
American Riveters. GIs saw themselves as liberators–giving candy to starving children, rescuing
weak French men from German prisons, and creating infrastructure in primitive villages. And, of
course, sexually satisfying French women. However, their overlording of France creates clashes
when, as prostitution grows exponentially, they refuse to take responsibility or secede

Personal Narrative: A Day In The Military
I spent 18 months deployed in the Arabian Gulf near the coast of Afghanistan on an

that I was part of the one percent who wore a dignified uniform every day for six years and
served my beloved country. Although I was not a "Lifer" –– a person who spent over 20 years in

Why I Want To Be A Special Forces Job Essay
I am writing about the occupation known as Special Forces. I am very interested in this occupation
because I love military careers, and I love the feeling of adventure. The reason i want to be a special
forces team member, is because my papa fought in Vietnam in the U.S. Air Force but was sent back
home when my Grammy was having my mom. My brother was in the U.S. Army when he was
driving a humvee down a route when the humvee in front of him was blown up. I have wanted to be
in the Military since i was about 6, I have always loved the military with a passion, but I don't
necessarily know why, I just feel its in my blood. When any branch of the Military has trouble
carrying out, or conducting missions, they call in the Elite teams known as Special Forces Teams, or
Spec Ops Teams. "Each individual is highly trained in hand–to–hand combat, scuba diving,

amount of unexpected casualties. To become a leader of a Spec Ops team, you must have some
serious time put into it, and must be well decorated because they don't just let someone who just

what they are doing. It must be really awesome to know that you are call upon to do the missions

In Women in the Military, Janette Mance explores the debates and problems faced by the increasing

From the storm lashed decks of the Mayflower to the present hour, women have stood like a rock for
the welfare and glory of the history of our country . . . and one might well add: unwritten,
unrewarded, and unrecognized.

History of Women in the Military
General Jeanne Holm was one of the very first women in the Air Force to achieve the rank of
General. Although in retirement now, she still is an important military figure. Her book, Women in
the Military: An Unfinished Revolution, gives an impressive account of the roles that women have
thus far played in the military. It was my primary source when researching the history surrounding
women in the military. Due to the fact that Holm's book is so detailed and in depth, I also used a
book by Dorothy and Carl J. Schneider entitled Sound Off: American Military Women Speak Out.
This book provides a timeline detailing the major points of women's military history, so when
writing, I tried to follow that guideline.
According to Holm,
Women in point of fact, have been serving their country since it began – Molly Pitcher fired her

disguised as men. In World War One. their medical services were indispensable. During the crises of

The purpose of this paper is to express a set of views on the ethical obligations of members of the

the proper limits of acceptable and effective professional conduct. These views are focused for most
part on the obligations of commissioned officers, but they apply in many ways to the public and

Professionals generally begin their professional lives by completing a higher education program in
their chosen fields (law, medicine, engineering, and so on). Professional military education (PME)
provides the Army's corollary to civilian education programs and complements the training of
military officers who have a corresponding civilian profession. PME provides progressive levels of
military education that prepare military officers for leadership. It includes various basic–level
courses for new and junior officers, command and staff colleges for mid–level officers, and war
colleges for senior officers. Similar levels of PME are in place for warrant officers,
noncommissioned officers, and Department of the Army civilians. Although critics would argue that
the Army does not have a system to certify its personnel as professionals, I contend that we have,
and have had, systems in place to confirm proficiency. Infantrymen and medics are certified as
professionals when they obtain the Expert Infantryman Badge and the Expert Field Medical Badge.
A generation ago, the Army used a tool called the Skill Qualification Test (SQT) that every Soldier
had to take and pass, along with required appropriate levels of PME for officers and
noncommissioned officers. All Soldiers, regardless of rank, also had to both pass the Army Physical

Pros And Cons Of Women In The Military
Women in the Military Women being in the military has become more prevalent in the last few
decades, but are they helping or hurting the military by doing so? Women being allowed in the
military dates all the way back to World War I where women would serve as nurses to aid wounded
soldiers (Wood). Now, women are allowed to serve in different roles, combat being one of them.
There is controversy whether the military is a place for women, but research shows pros and cons to

Although, one concern for women being allowed to serve in a combat occupation is sexual
harassment. The issue regarding sexual harassment has become more prevalent in the past decade
because military personnel is having more faith in the military to investigate such accusations
accordingly. Just last year, 6,131 sexual assault reports were filed with the DoD. In 2007, the
number of sexual assault filings were half of what they were last year which makes the DoD believe
the implications about sexual harassment they have put into place are working (Whitlock).
Whitlock's article states that an extreme amount of alcohol consumption is one of the leading causes
of sexual harassment cases, but there is no specificity on whether the cases are against men or
women. Sexual harassment has often been focused more on women being victims, but men can be
victims of such crimes as well. That is why the military has implemented a variety of methods into
the regular military training regarding sexual harassment and the repercussions of such actions. On
another note, there are studies that show women are more organized, creative thinkers and have
better social sensitivity skills than men (Haring). Haring's work explains that women are better at

Should The Military Occupation Of Israel
Apart from the growth of infrastructure, the military occupation needs to end so that the Palestinian
people can move freely through Palestine because the current restrictions through the occupation
destroy Palestine's ability to self–govern. We need to end the military occupation; it has gone on
long enough. After the Oslo Accords, the West Bank is now comprised of small detached Palestinian
areas within a continuous Israeli–controlled region (Le More 984). For eventual stability, Israel must
relinquish its control of the West Bank and Gaza. The occupation creates the conditions for
Palestinian hatred of Israel, especially when Israel bans travel between Palestinian villages in the
West Bank through the presence of military personnel and checkpoints (Hadid & Sengupta). Israelis
need to let Palestine be a state, and if they support its development, the Palestinians will hate Israel
less. Palestinians need to be able to go throughout the West Bank, or else there will never be self–
determination. To grant further autonomy, Israel should allow for more transportation between Gaza
and the West Bank. A road between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip would drastically improve the
free movement of the Palestinian people (Hazboun). If there is more freedom of movement,
Palestine would get more opportunity to develop, and Israel would dampen the anti–Israeli
sentiments amongst the Palestinians. The freedom of movement can only occur if the occupation
ends; Israeli withdrawal is best

Militarism In Sparta Essay
Introduction
Sparta was a city state of Ancient Greece which existed from approximately 900BCE to 396CE. The
Spartan's rise and success as a military nation was due to the fact that their entire way of life was
centred on warrior culture. The rise of militarism in Sparta was necessary as a defence against other
city states and Sparta hit its highest point of its power when they defeated their rival city–state
Athens, in the Peloponnesian war which went for 60 years (499–449 B.C.). Sparta maintained its
military way of life though its training and a strict social hierarchy. However, Sparta eventually went
into decline following their defeat and invasion by the Thebans.
1. Training to encourage the warrior life
The Spartan men were expected to be full time warriors, who spent their lives training and fighting.
The introduction into this lifestyle began early. Spartan boys started their military training at age 7,
when they left home and entered the Agoge which was a training system and school for young
Spartan boys. The boys lived communally under strict conditions. They had to do continual ... Show

warriors (refer to ppt). However, the Spartans still did exist, but they were the second rate of power

Essay On Women's Role In The Revolutionary War
Women in the Armed Force have come a long way from their small involvement in 1775 during The
American Revolutionary War. The American Revolutionary War was the first time American women
played a role in the military. Women in this time were only allowed to serve in the battlefield as
water bearers, nurses, cooks, saboteurs and laundresses. In 1861 The United States broke out into a
civil war over the abolishing of slavery, this particular war plays a major importance in the women's

Advantages Of Discount Brokers
The advent of discount brokers in the Indian market have revolutionized the way trading is done in
India.
Discount brokerages have heavily brought down the cost of trading. This has proven to be a boon to
the traders especially the intraday and the derivatives trades.
Discount brokerages like RKSV and Zerodha have already started hurting the broking industry.
Full–service brokers had made a request to market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India
(SEBI) to impose a minimum slab on the brokerage being charged by discount brokers. This request
was declined, clearing the way for more aggressive competition.

Getting more profits
Put simply, we are out there to make money in the stock markets. When one goes through the
contract note of the regular brokers, there are huge costs spent on brokerages, taxes and duties. At a
brokerage of Rs.30 on per lot of Option one has to pay a brokerage of around Rs.150 for 5 lots.
There are also duties and taxes which increase it to Rs.200.When the same thing is done through a
discount brokerage the brokerage cost is Rs.20 and adding the taxes and duties it come to Rs.40.
There is saving of Rs.150. It directly adds more money to the profits.
2. No need to sacrifice the quality of the execution.
There is no difference between trading through a regular broker and a discount broker. There is still
the old facility of call and trade. There is the new facility of mobile trading and online trading.
3. More high frequency trades
The reduction of brokerage brings down the breakdown even. The intraday brokerage for discount
brokerage is 0.01% or Rs.20, whichever is lower. So, in small trades, when a trader buys at 100.01
and sells at 100.05, he still makes profit. In large trades, the advantage is even more as the brokerage
is even less due to the Rs.20 cap. This reduction of breakeven point enables a trader to do more

Edelstein's Occupation

Assignment 1
Q1: What is Edelstein's research question?
A: What is the reason of success and failures of military occupations?
Q2: What is the thing that is being explained in Edelstein's analysis?
A: He basically explained why some occupations last long enough to succeed while others failed in
the end. And in his analysis, he also made several points to support his opinion, which are as
follows: (1) In his analysis he explained how to code a military occupation as a "success" or a
"failure"––It's basically measured by looking at the long–term balance of interests gained by the
occupying power and the cost they paid out.
(2) The author's analysis explained what an occupying power should seek for to maintain ... Show

So in order to succeed, occupiers must both maintain their interests and convince the occupied
population to accept their long–term occupations. And in order to make this possible, potential
occupying power should know three points. First of all, the need for occupation, commonly
perceived external threats, and credible guarantees are both the causes and the effects of occupation
success; Second, clear goals should be established and occupiers should be trained to be ready for
occupations; Third, great powers should anticipate the possibility of occupation and take their
responsibility to act before engaging into war.
Q4: How does Edelstein narrow down his research question to specific empirical questions?
A: In this article Edelstein first focused on the basics of occupations, dividing them into different
kinds, and gave metrics for success and failure of military occupations. After that he explained the
reason of success in military occupations and showed the dilemma that failing occupying power
would face, and then gave a conclusion to his theory, after all that, he narrow down his research by
using his conclusions and theory to discuss the implications of the argument for the current
occupation of Iraq and future potential

The Meaning Of The Word Profession
Across academia, scholars debate the meaning of the word profession. The term invokes many
connotations and expectations, but few can agree on an actual meaning.1 Geoffrey Millerson, a
prominent sociologist, defined profession as a "type of higher–grade, non–manual occupation, with
both subjectively and objectively recognized occupational status, possessing a well–defined area of
study or concern and providing a definite service, after advanced training and education."2
According to Millerson's definition, the United States Army is in fact a profession.
Millerson identifies the first component of a profession as "higher–grade, non–manual occupation".
Many academics agree that a key component of a profession is specialized skill based on a body of
knowledge.3 Initially, many will contend that the U.S. Army does not pass the first requirement.
Soldiers work long and hard often completing tasks requiring physical strength and endurance. At
first glance, the composition and mission of the military undermines the definition of a profession.
Obviously, the military relies on a certain amount of physical labor to complete its mission.
However, the military is also composed of personnel who manage and direct the employment of
assets to strategically, operationally, or tactically defeat the enemy. The knowledge required to
employ those capabilities offsets the physical labor necessary to accomplish the task. The army
requires officers to be educated and to fulfill

Douglas Macarthur was nominated head of the Supreme Command of Allied Powers (SCAP), which

talented men like Macarthur could have handled. He was forced to make very hard decisions, which

The goal that America had was for Japan to become a Democratic nation. This goal was difficult to

communism was a major threat and wanted no part of it in the US or Japan. It was important to steer
the Japanese people away from communism and towards Democracy. Macarthur used news systems
in Japan to spread democratic ideas and to allow the Japanese people to better understand
democracy. The lives of the Japanese people were changed by a few different things. For children,
the education system was modified, democratic ideas were encouraged. Laws regulating families
were also changed according to the new way of life. Macarthur arranged occupation policies to

also attempts to control inflation. Besides the introduction of the Constitution, there was another
major political introduction. The supreme political institution had been changed to be the Parliament

contributions women have made to the United States military from the American Revolutionary war

consequently, has resulted in the organization's steadfast resistance against women's direct martial

According to a 2012 BBC article, women's involvement in combat zones has increased due to
indistinct battle lines during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, in which "it has become less and less
possible to keep women out of combat conditions," has resulted in a loosening of limitations for
women serving in the US military. While women are not yet allowed to serve in frontline combat,
the eased limits have increased their opportunities for both occupational advancement and proving
their worth in combat positions. Additionally, once a soldier has received suitable training, and
meets the requirements for frontline duty, any combatant should, ideally, do what he or she was
trained for, despite his or her sex. Clearly then, whoever chooses to, or is chosen to be on frontlines
has likely steeled their emotions allowing for appropriate functional performance. Opponents to
women in combat contend females require supplementary accommodations based on sex
distinctions, such as menstrual cycles, pregnancies, and restroom accommodations, and as such,
women will disrupt the efficacy of the military unit. While pregnancy is certainly a possibility for
many female soldiers, it is doubtful that a woman dedicated to obtaining a combat position would

A Study A Year After The Repeal Of Dadt
A study by the Palm Center, a research branch from the University of California Los Angeles Law
School, conducted a study a year after the repeal of DADT. The research group wanted to discover
what impacts the repeal has done to the military and according to their findings they concluded: (1)
The repeal of DADT has had no overall negative impact on military readiness or its component
dimensions, including cohesion, recruitment, retention, assaults, harassment or morale. (2) A
comparison of 2011 pre–repeal and 2012 post–repeal survey data shows that service members
reported the same level of military readiness after DADT repeal as before it. (3) Even in those units
that included openly LGB service members, and that consequently should have been the most likely
to experience a drop in cohesion as a result of repeal, cohesion did not decline after the new policy
of open service was put into place. In fact, greater openness and honesty resulting from repeal seem
to have promoted increased understanding, respect and acceptance. (4) Recruitment was unaffected
by the repeal of DADT. In an era when enlistment standards are tightening, service–wide
recruitment has remained robust. (5) Retention was unaffected by the repeal of DADT. There was no
mass exodus of military members as a result of repeal, and there were only two verifiable

5 April 2017 The Dream Of Being A Military Nurse
After high school I am interested in being a military nurse because I have been wanting to join the
US Army but I also wanted to be a nurse so I decided why not be both. I have always been interested
in being a military nurse because I get to help people that are saving us from dangers. Not also that
but because it has been my father 's dream. People in this career help injured soldiers during war
which means they have to be exposed to dangerous war zones. Somethings that military nurses do is
monitor wounds for infection, they also prepare patients for surgeries ... Show more content on

They also help their family members with their health. A military nurse may sometimes be sent to
war zone to help out and save injured soldiers, they also risk their life being there. Nurses also have
to attend boot camp to know what circumstances they are put in during war.
Money and outlook– "Overall, job opportunities for registered nurses are expected to be good.
However, the supply of new nurses entering the labor market has increased in recent years. This
increase has resulted in competition for jobs in some areas of the country. Generally, registered
nurses with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN) will have better job prospects than those
without one. Employers also may prefer candidates who have some related work experience". "The
median annual wage for registered nurses was $67,490 in May 2015. The median wage is the wage
at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The
lowest 10 percent earned less than $46,360, and the highest 10 percent earned more than
$101,630".–(www.bls.gov). There are a lot of people trying to become a registered nurse but, just
becoming a registered nurse won't get you as much money as getting your BMS and working with
the government. A registered nurse can get up to $101,630 a year depending on how far you got into
your education. For example getting your BMS can help a lot.
Employment– "Registered nurses

Veterans Challenges

  • 1. Veterans Challenges Veterans frequently note 'finding a job' as the most difficult task they face when transitioning out of the service, citing transferring military skills to a civilian professional atmosphere as one of the primary hurdles. Aside from the difficulties of the current job market, one of the biggest difficulties Veterans report in finding a job is dictating how their military skills translate to the civilian professional atmosphere. Nearly all believe they have the skillsets required to land their targeted job, but most express concerns about how to translate their skills to a civilian business environment. Many Veterans feel their military service is respected by possible future employers, but still three in five Veterans note concerns about cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recent veterans earned $796 per week, compared with $786 for their civilian counterparts. (Monthly Labor Review, July 2010). Veterans own 9% of U.S. businesses, employing some 5.8 million people, and their median income is similarly higher than that of both the U.S. population, and their civilian counterparts (U.S. Census Bureau, ... Because of all the blood, sweat, and tears that these soldiers put into there job, they are able to perform a wide range of missions including security operations, route clearance operations, to breaching and clearing, and medically saving other soldiers lives. • 13. Argumentative Essay: Women In The Military Prompts Women In Combat The topic of women in the military prompts a considerable amount of debate. Plenty of arguments are started because of the military policy that bans women from combat roles (Women in Combat Pros and Cons). This controversy brings about much discourse because it affects the whole country, whether directly through a family member or indirectly through the strength of the military. One opinion is that women are the weaker sex and that permitting them to join the military could be dangerous. Another opinion is that women should be treated equally and receive the same rights as men (Women in Combat Pros and Cons List). There were 214,098 women serving in the U.S. military in 2013; that is 14.6% of the entire branch (Women in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many state that mothers should not leave their children without the presence of their mother. This is very contradictory to the belief in the importance of family and motherhood (Schlafly). Multiple servicemen say that combat is not just a more intense version of other traditional occupations (Simons). "No other workplace is so unforgivingly relentless" (Simons). Many people believe that if men and women can work together in other occupations then they should be able to work together in combat. One conflict to this is that there are no routine separations in combat like traditional jobs have. Routine separations, such as being able to go home and be away from your coworkers for the night, can be very refreshing but servicemen and women do not receive this luxury (Simons). While tradition may hold that women should be home taking care of their children and men working to support their family, the modern world is changing. Many previously masculine professions have been successfully extended to females in the last century (Women in Combat Pros and Cons). Men and women are able to work proficiently together under stress, in tight quarters, and for long periods of time in jobs such as construction and operating rooms (Simons). So, men and women should be able to work together under the stress of combat also. Another subject of discussion is the soldier's mental health. Many servicemen's sanity may be based on being able to draw a contrast between this horrific world he is seeing and maybe his wife's or family's peaceful world at home. If they are seeing women in their unit, they may be more probable to lose their mental stability. Women may provide something for servicemen to live for beyond the honor, duty, and the grimy men sitting next to them. With the presence of women, the ideal of a "woman" would never work to give them mental stability (Simons). Another thing to ponder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some Europeans who began to criss–cross the roads with Mughals recorded themselves in forms of diaries or letters about the people and the lands they encountered on their journey, which are well preserved today. While writing this well– constructed article, Manrique keeps his audience in mind by providing exceptionally detailed experiences that he had on his journey. The reader is able to imagine the drastic situations he went through on his journey due to the "monsoon floods, voracious mosquitos, appetizing peacocks, violent fever and affronted villagers – as well as threatening Mughal officials." Women In The Military Women have always played an important role in the U.S Military and continue to, however women did not officially serve in the US military until the Army and Navy Nurse Corps were established in 1901 and 1908. Prior to that time many women served with the armed forces as contracted and volunteer nurses, cooks and laundresses (Scott, 2013). During the Revolutionary, Civil and Mexican Wars, a small number of women were involved in combat, but they had to disguise themselves as men and enlist under aliases. This quote was said by J.D Vance while talking about the necessary needs for the military. Members of the U.S military is to maintain the U.S national defense. Although some service members work in occupations specific to the military, such as a fighter pilot, infantry men. Many work in occupations that also exists in civilian workplace such as nurses, doctors, and lawyers (¨bureau of labor statistics¨). The united states military would be a great opportunity because it allows people to work outdoors, it's also great physical labor, and creates fantastic employment opportunities. Some benefits of being in the army reserves is that people get to work outdoors. In the reserves everyone performs special training. Policy Introduction and Identification In January of 2013, the Department of Defense set aside the "1994 Direct Ground Combat Definition and Assignment Rule" (Carter, 2015). This takes all restrictions off women allowing all who meet the qualifications to hold a combat role in the military. The Armed Forces have opened over 110,000 positions to women and have set their standards. Anyone, who can meet operationally relevant and gender neutral standards, regardless of gender, should have the opportunity to serve in any position (Carter, 2015). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the beginning of American history men have fought our battles, but little do people know women have always been in our nations battles. During the Revolutionary War women follow their husbands to war, many serve in camps as cooks and nurses but had to obtain permission from the commanding officer if they proved themselves helpful (U.S. ARMY, 2017). From 1782 to 1783 Deborah Sampson served over a year in General Washington's army disguising herself as a man, until she was wounded; reveling her true gender and being honorably discharged. Skipping ahead to 1861 the America Civil War, women would serve as administrators of hospitals as well as cooks and nurses in both the Union and Confederate hospitals. From 1917 to 1918 World War I, women were allowed to join the military. Throughout the last 2 years of World War 1 over 33,000 women served as nurses and support staff officially in the armed forces and more than 400 nurses die or are wounded in the line of duty. Moving forward to World War II 1941–1945, more than 400,000 women serve at home and abroad as mechanics, nurses, ambulance drivers, pilots, and other non–combat roles. Eight–eight women were captured as POW's (prisoners of war). Why Women Should Not Be Allowed in Combat Occupations Essay Since 1901, women have served in some form of the military, however, dating back to the American Revolution women have had an unofficial role. Women have had and will continue to have an important role in the military, the question is whether women should be allowed to occupy specific combat positions. Traditionally women have not been allowed in combat occupations, but recently these restrictions have been somewhat lifted, making certain occupations available to women. Despite the lift complications arise from women being in combat vocations and it's not just because of the physical differences, there is also the increased risk of sexual assault. Due to the detrimental impact on the military, soldiers, and society, women should not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In January 1994, the "Secretary of Defense Les Aspin overturned the "risk rule" excluding women from any positions that could expose them to direct combat, hostile fire, or capture; the rule was replaced by the "direct ground combat assignment rule," which more narrowly tailored the restriction to front line combat positions." (Mackenzie) According to the 1994 Department of Defense policy, women were limited from some occupational specialties if those specialties were physically located with direct ground combat units. According to a press release the Army will begin implementing the DoD policy. "Removing the restrictions opened 13,139 Army positions to women, occupations like; Multiple Launch Rocket System crewmember, MLRS operations fire detection specialist, Field artillery fire finder radar operator specialist, M1 Abrams tank system maintainer, Bradley Fighting Vehicle system maintainer, and Artillery mechanic." (Wong) Regardless of the recent policy changes, the distinction between combat and support roles are still unclear. "Since women are permitted to serve in such support units, a major barrier designed to keep them away from combat has vanished." What Soldiers Do Summary In her book What Soldiers Do: Sex and the American GI in WWII France, Mary Louise Roberts looks at the intertwining of World War II and sexual expression of American GIs. Far from what the wholesome magazine of the time Stars and Stripes would print, Roberts delves into the seemingly consuming nature of the sexual interactions between GIs and mostly French women. Unresponsive to threats of disease or punishment, soldiers came to see France as the epicenter of sex and promiscuity. Though Roberts outlines other relationships soldiers had between children and other citizens of France, she emphasizes that the preconceived notion of the so–called easiness of French women plus the seemingly primitive culture and weakness of men noticed upon the GI's arrival warped Franco–American Relations. As André Siegfried noticed, Americans were thrust into global engagement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With extensive support from personal journals, police records, comics, and photographs, Roberts paints the relationship between GIs and French women. She begins with GIs as liberators and the American Romanticization of their occupation of France. Though truly the American Military disrupted French autonomy and governance, through steamy photos of Frenchwomen bestowing kisses on soldiers the Military is able to paint a picture of GIs' benevolence and appeal. Roberts indicates an instance where women expressed fear of men's infidelity after seeing those photos, reaffirming GIs' masculinity and confidence while putting anxiety and inferiority onto the backs of American Riveters. GIs saw themselves as liberators–giving candy to starving children, rescuing weak French men from German prisons, and creating infrastructure in primitive villages. I am very interested in this occupation because I love military careers, and I love the feeling of adventure. The reason i want to be a special forces team member, is because my papa fought in Vietnam in the U.S. Air Force but was sent back home when my Grammy was having my mom. My brother was in the U.S. Army when he was driving a humvee down a route when the humvee in front of him was blown up. I have wanted to be in the Military since i was about 6, I have always loved the military with a passion, but I don't necessarily know why, I just feel its in my blood. After examining issues such as pregnancy, sexual harassment, and rape, Mance concludes that as a society we must continue to strive for gender equality. From the storm lashed decks of the Mayflower to the present hour, women have stood like a rock for the welfare and glory of the history of our country . . . and one might well add: unwritten, unrewarded, and unrecognized. History of Women in the Military General Jeanne Holm was one of the very first women in the Air Force to achieve the rank of General. Although in retirement now, she still is an important military figure. Her book, Women in the Military: An Unfinished Revolution, gives an impressive account of the roles that women have thus far played in the military. It was my primary source when researching the history surrounding women in the military. Due to the fact that Holm's book is so detailed and in depth, I also used a book by Dorothy and Carl J. These views are focused for most part on the obligations of commissioned officers, but they apply in many ways to the public and private conduct of senior non–commissioned officers, and indeed, all military members. PME provides progressive levels of military education that prepare military officers for leadership. It includes various basic–level courses for new and junior officers, command and staff colleges for mid–level officers, and war colleges for senior officers. Similar levels of PME are in place for warrant officers, noncommissioned officers, and Department of the Army civilians. Although critics would argue that the Army does not have a system to certify its personnel as professionals, I contend that we have, and have had, systems in place to confirm proficiency. Infantrymen and medics are certified as professionals when they obtain the Expert Infantryman Badge and the Expert Field Medical Badge. A generation ago, the Army used a tool called the Skill Qualification Test (SQT) that every Soldier had to take and pass, along with required appropriate levels of PME for officers and noncommissioned officers. In 2007, the number of sexual assault filings were half of what they were last year which makes the DoD believe the implications about sexual harassment they have put into place are working (Whitlock). Sexual harassment has often been focused more on women being victims, but men can be victims of such crimes as well. That is why the military has implemented a variety of methods into the regular military training regarding sexual harassment and the repercussions of such actions. Should The Military Occupation Of Israel Apart from the growth of infrastructure, the military occupation needs to end so that the Palestinian people can move freely through Palestine because the current restrictions through the occupation destroy Palestine's ability to self–govern. We need to end the military occupation; it has gone on long enough. After the Oslo Accords, the West Bank is now comprised of small detached Palestinian areas within a continuous Israeli–controlled region (Le More 984). For eventual stability, Israel must relinquish its control of the West Bank and Gaza. The occupation creates the conditions for Palestinian hatred of Israel, especially when Israel bans travel between Palestinian villages in the West Bank through the presence of military personnel and checkpoints (Hadid & Sengupta). Israelis need to let Palestine be a state, and if they support its development, the Palestinians will hate Israel less. Palestinians need to be able to go throughout the West Bank, or else there will never be self– determination. To grant further autonomy, Israel should allow for more transportation between Gaza and the West Bank. A road between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip would drastically improve the free movement of the Palestinian people (Hazboun). The Spartan's rise and success as a military nation was due to the fact that their entire way of life was centred on warrior culture. The rise of militarism in Sparta was necessary as a defence against other city states and Sparta hit its highest point of its power when they defeated their rival city–state Athens, in the Peloponnesian war which went for 60 years (499–449 B.C.). Douglas Macarthur Legacy General Douglas MacArthur Douglas MacArthur was a United States general born in 1880 in Little Rocky, Arkansas and passing away in 1964 buried in his mother's hometown of Norfolk, Virginia. He is known most notably for his defense of the Philippines during World War II although it ended in Japanese occupation of the islands. MacArthur was raised by a military family, devoted his life to the army in both world wars as well as the Korean War, and was loved immensely by the American public throughout the twentieth century. Although the end of the Korean War saw some troubles with the command of MacArthur due to the struggles with the opposition from North Korea, he eventually was forced to retire, but this did not take away from his strong influence around the world as well as powerful legacy that allowed him to become a household name. ... Q2: What is the thing that is being explained in Edelstein's analysis? A: He basically explained why some occupations last long enough to succeed while others failed in the end. And in his analysis, he also made several points to support his opinion, which are as follows: (1) In his analysis he explained how to code a military occupation as a "success" or a "failure"––It's basically measured by looking at the long–term balance of interests gained by the occupying power and the cost they paid out. (2) The author's analysis explained what an occupying power should seek for to maintain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So in order to succeed, occupiers must both maintain their interests and convince the occupied population to accept their long–term occupations. And in order to make this possible, potential occupying power should know three points. First of all, the need for occupation, commonly perceived external threats, and credible guarantees are both the causes and the effects of occupation success; Second, clear goals should be established and occupiers should be trained to be ready for occupations; Third, great powers should anticipate the possibility of occupation and take their responsibility to act before engaging into war. Q4: How does Edelstein narrow down his research question to specific empirical questions? A: In this article Edelstein first focused on the basics of occupations, dividing them into different kinds, and gave metrics for success and failure of military occupations. After that he explained the reason of success in military occupations and showed the dilemma that failing occupying power would face, and then gave a conclusion to his theory, after all that, he narrow down his research by using his conclusions and theory to discuss the implications of the argument for the current occupation of Iraq and future potential ... The most outrageous scenes were Afghan military and police employing young boys as "chai workers". These kids were house slaves and frequently sexually assaulted, along with placing them in positions of immediate danger. The incidents with these boys were graphic, three were shot dead trying to escape. Upon confrontation of the police chief he claims that these boys "liked being there and giving their asses at night. • 123. The Meaning Of The Word Profession Across academia, scholars debate the meaning of the word profession. The term invokes many connotations and expectations, but few can agree on an actual meaning.1 Geoffrey Millerson, a prominent sociologist, defined profession as a "type of higher–grade, non–manual occupation, with both subjectively and objectively recognized occupational status, possessing a well–defined area of study or concern and providing a definite service, after advanced training and education."2 According to Millerson's definition, the United States Army is in fact a profession. Millerson identifies the first component of a profession as "higher–grade, non–manual occupation". Many academics agree that a key component of a profession is specialized skill based on a body of knowledge.3 Initially, many will contend that the U.S. Army does not pass the first requirement. Soldiers work long and hard often completing tasks requiring physical strength and endurance. At first glance, the composition and mission of the military undermines the definition of a profession. Obviously, the military relies on a certain amount of physical labor to complete its mission. However, the military is also composed of personnel who manage and direct the employment of assets to strategically, operationally, or tactically defeat the enemy. The knowledge required to employ those capabilities offsets the physical labor necessary to accomplish the task. The army requires officers to be educated and to fulfill ... General Douglas Macarthur Accomplishments General Douglas Macarthur is most commonly known for what he did in combat, but it is also amazing how successful he was during the US Occupation of Japan after World War II. In 1945, Douglas Macarthur was nominated head of the Supreme Command of Allied Powers (SCAP), which placed him in charge of the whole Occupation process. This was a very difficult job, which only talented men like Macarthur could have handled. He was forced to make very hard decisions, which are still relevant today. The American Occupation of Japan was undoubtedly the most successful occupation, and possibly the only successful occupation of a defeated nation ever attempted. The goal that America had was for Japan to become a Democratic nation. This goal was difficult to accomplish because there were concerns of communism rising in Japan. The Americans believed communism was a major threat and wanted no part of it in the US or Japan. It was important to steer the Japanese people away from communism and towards Democracy. Macarthur used news systems in Japan to spread democratic ideas and to allow the Japanese people to better understand democracy. The lives of the Japanese people were changed by a few different things. For children, the education system was modified, democratic ideas were encouraged. Laws regulating families were also changed according to the new way of life. Macarthur arranged occupation policies to address the weakened economy, and tax reforms were created and sent out to the people. There were also attempts to control inflation. Besides the introduction of the Constitution, there was another major political introduction. The supreme political institution had been changed to be the Parliament of Japan, the Diet, which was to be made up of freely elected representatives of the people. Japan was not use to having a parliament, but it was a good decision by Macarthur and has made Japan very successful. Regardless of the many substantial contributions women have made to the United States military from the American Revolutionary war to the contemporary Iraq and Afghanistan wars, it has long been a sanctuary of masculinity, which consequently, has resulted in the organization's steadfast resistance against women's direct martial participation. The opponents of women frontline combat argue that females are unable to execute the required responsibilities of battle based on gender and gender role stereotypes. Such opinions are comprised of the assumption that women are physically and psychologically weaker than men are, require supplementary accommodations, and are more vulnerable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to a 2012 BBC article, women's involvement in combat zones has increased due to indistinct battle lines during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, in which "it has become less and less possible to keep women out of combat conditions," has resulted in a loosening of limitations for women serving in the US military. While women are not yet allowed to serve in frontline combat, the eased limits have increased their opportunities for both occupational advancement and proving their worth in combat positions. Additionally, once a soldier has received suitable training, and meets the requirements for frontline duty, any combatant should, ideally, do what he or she was trained for, despite his or her sex. Clearly then, whoever chooses to, or is chosen to be on frontlines has likely steeled their emotions allowing for appropriate functional performance. Opponents to women in combat contend females require supplementary accommodations based on sex distinctions, such as menstrual cycles, pregnancies, and restroom accommodations, and as such, women will disrupt the efficacy of the military unit. While pregnancy is certainly a possibility for many female soldiers, it is doubtful that a woman dedicated to obtaining a combat position would allow herself to become pregnant, thus jeopardizing her hard work toward martial occupational expansion. Army Profession Of Arms Essay The Roles in the Army in the Profession of Arms In the first section "The Army as a Profession of Arms," Toner (2010) said, "The preeminent military task, and what separates the military profession from all other occupations, is that soldiers are routinely prepared to kill. In addition to murder and preparing to kill, the soldier has two other principal duties. Some soldiers die and, when they are not dying, they must be preparing to die." (p.2). "I have been in multiple situations where I have either feared for my life or was ready to die for my country. The regular day in the Army for most Soldiers begins with Physical Readiness Training and ends with cleaning up the area of operation. That is not always the case with other Soldiers. A Study A Year After The Repeal Of Dadt A study by the Palm Center, a research branch from the University of California Los Angeles Law School, conducted a study a year after the repeal of DADT. The research group wanted to discover what impacts the repeal has done to the military and according to their findings they concluded: (1) The repeal of DADT has had no overall negative impact on military readiness or its component dimensions, including cohesion, recruitment, retention, assaults, harassment or morale. (2) A comparison of 2011 pre–repeal and 2012 post–repeal survey data shows that service members reported the same level of military readiness after DADT repeal as before it. (3) Even in those units that included openly LGB service members, and that consequently should have been the most likely to experience a drop in cohesion as a result of repeal, cohesion did not decline after the new policy of open service was put into place. In fact, greater openness and honesty resulting from repeal seem to have promoted increased understanding, respect and acceptance. (4) Recruitment was unaffected by the repeal of DADT. In an era when enlistment standards are tightening, service–wide recruitment has remained robust. (5) Retention was unaffected by the repeal of DADT. There was no mass exodus of military members as a result of repeal, and there were only two verifiable resignations linked to the policy change, both military chaplains. Service members were as likely to say that they plan to re–enlist after DADT repeal as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
