Radish Seed Lab Report
In generalization, there are a multitude of factors that could potentially influence the germination of
a radish seed. This lab thoroughly exhibits the effect of water amounts on the germination of a
radish seed. There is indeed an in–depth science behind the projected results, and overall of the
effects water has on the germination of radish seeds, and the growth of plants in particular. Radishes
themselves are moisture–loving plants; therefore, it is significant that they receive an adequate
amount of water, allowing the soil to be moist, but not overly saturated (Biology Coach, 2015). In
general, water is significant for the health of a plant in the way it transports important nutrients
throughout the plant. From this point, nutrients are drawn from the soil and used by the plant. Seed
germination itself is defined as the process where the seed sprout for growing, and future
development into a plant. In order to germinate, the seed must have its essential needs met until it is
capable of doing so: water, temperature, and sun. Therefore, during its early stages of growth, the
seed will rely upon the food supplies stores within it, until it is large enough for its own leaves to
begin making food through photosynthesis (Biology of Plants, 2016). Initially, the process of
germination begins with the absorption of water y there seed, therefore, this absorption of water then
activates an enzyme that increases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This then not only prevents the germination of the seed; however, if the plant were to initially
germinate, it would be unable to grow any further, as without enough water, photosynthesis, nutrient
transfer, or transpiration would be unable to occur; therefore, the plant would be unable to sustain

Radish Plants Lab Report
A plant's growth ability is dependent on its ability to acquire the resources it needs to survive.
Competition such as interspecific and intraspecific, limiting resources, and population density affect
the fitness level of a plant. This experiment was conducted in order to test the capability of collards
and radishes to grow in manipulated densities under interspecific and intraspecific competition. I
hypothesized that both collard and radish plants will grow more efficiently in single species pots
under low–density conditions. I also hypothesized that in the mixed species plots the radishes will
be more fit to survive and grow better than the collard plants in both the high and low–density pots.
Both high and low density and single and mixed species plots were planted and results were
observed. There was a significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The low–density radish–collard mix pots contained four seeds of radishes and four seeds of collards.
The high–density radish–collard pots contained 32 seeds of each species. While our group replicated
this 3x2 design four times to total 24 posts, we incorporated the whole class data. Therefore, there
were 16 replicates for each treatment. For each pot, we filled soil up until about one inch from the
top. We placed the seeds in the pot and piled on around 2 or 3 cm of soil on top. In 3 species levels,
seeds were spaced as evenly as possible. In the mixed species pot, the two species were alternated so
that each one had the same access to space and nutrients at the other. For each pot, we wrote down
our section number, group name, and the contents of the pot. Our group worked at the first bench in
the greenhouse and also contained our pots that were spread out evenly in four rows. Our pots
stayed in the greenhouse for about five weeks, captured as much sunlight as they could, and got
their water source from sprinklers that automatically came on twice a

Effect Of Competition Lab: Intraspecific And Interspecific...
Competition Lab Intraspecific and Interspecific Competition
Objectives:
1. To assess the effect of competition among plants at different population densities on the growth of
plants
2. To assess the relative competitiveness of two species of plants when they are planted together
Background:
Competition is an interaction between organisms in which both are harmed by the interaction.
Competition can occur among members of the same species and is called intraspecific competition
or it can occur between members of different species, in which case is called interspecific
competition. Competition of animals can involve: fights over food, water, nesting sites or mates; or
may involve less overt forms of conflict such as greater height allowing ... Show more content on

Intraspecific Competition Lab Report
This experiment was performed to give a better idea of interspecific competition and intraspecific
competition between radish seeds and wheat seeds at high and low densities. By planting two
species only pots and two combined species pots our results showed that the radish seeds performed
better at both interspecific and intraspecific competitions and concluded that the lower the pot
density the more resources and growth. 32 radish seeds were evenly planted in pot A1 followed by
32 wheat seeds planted in pot A2 and 16 of each radish and wheat seeds combined (32 total) planted
in pot AB1. We repeated this procedure again but this time planting 96 radish seeds evenly in pot

For both interspecific and intraspecific competition the radish did its best however at the lowest
density of 32. (Figure 1) These results did support our hypothesis that the lower the density the
better the growth and the radish would thrive better at intraspecific competition however was refuted
with us predicting that wheat would do better in interspecific competition. These results can possibly
be explained by the idea of density–dependent growth meaning that as you increase population,
resources such as light, soil, and water decrease and vice versa (Walsh and Walsh 2015). Also a
possible explanation for our results is that the radish shoots were longer, taller, more in number
versus the wheat shoots that were short, broad and few in number. The theory of allocating more
roots if the there is less sun and bigger shots if there is less nutrient rich soil is shown in the
experiment of intraspecific and interspecific competition of beans, in the end that beans that had
more competition and the soil was poor had bigger leaves at the expense of its neighbors (Mania et

Radish Project
Garden Thy Radish
This is how my project will go into detail. The supplies will include an 8ft x 5ft garden bed, radish
seeds, shovels, soil, water and a good area to garden and dig. I will plant a radish garden. In my
front yard. I will plant one because we need to help the environment. I will start planting September
18th 2017. How, digging at a little stop, then making sure the dirt and soil is good, then start filling
it up with soil then by planting the radish seeds. The radish seeds would need to be 1/4 to 1/2 inch
deep, spaced approximately 1 inch apart, in rows 12 to 18 inches apart.
This garden will help the environment by supplying food for other small animals once the garden is
fully grown. Since we are planting it ourself it makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people eat radishes, at my house, so that's another good thing. It is a healthy vegetable. My
health will improve because I will be basically exercising due to gardening and digging. I will also
be out in the hot sun so it will actually make me sweat.
The problems that will occur can be that animals or insects are eating the radishes. The animals
eating it will not let my garden grow to the expected growth it's supposed to be at. Or that the
radishes I forget to water them one day when they're supposed to be watered daily. Another problem
that can occur is if it were to rain, and the rain overly watered them. A problem can occur, if it gets
very cloudy because radishes needs lots of sun. That is just some of the many problems that can
happen during the planting and growing process.
Saftey issues that should be considered during the project is making sure you don't get any parasites.
The safety equipment I will have during the project will be shoes. I will need some gloves because I
really don't want to dirty my hands. Some other things I will need is to make sure I have proper
clothes to dig and get messy! I will get some glasses in case I get dirt or soil in my eyes. That is
some of the many safety issues and safety equipment you will need to complete a

Intraspecific Competition Lab Report
Jennifer Aguilar April 11, 2016 Agroecology INTRODUCTION: For this lab the concept of
intraspecific and interspecific competition was used in order to carry out this experiment using seeds
kale and radish seeds. Intraspecific competition is when the many of the same type of species, for
example kale, compete for the same resources such as sunlight, water, and nutrients. Yes, they are
the same, but in order to survive, and thrive, they must compete with those around them.
Intrespecific is different from intraspecific, this is when two or more types of the same species, in
this case – kale and radish, are growing near each other and compete for the same nutrients as listed
above (Million, 2013). These competitions do not stop at just kale and ... Show more content on

This could also explain why the intra radish seeds were the smallest – because there were too many
seeds competing for nutrients. For the radish weight, the interspecific (6R, 4K) did the best. This
could be because there were more radish seeds, than there were kale seeds, but not enough that they
would have to compete to survive but enough that it was able to overtake and the kale. The intra
radish didn't do as well because there were so many seeds as the same

The Influence Of Amoxicillin On Peroxidase Activity And...
Amoxicillin has no Effect on Peroxidase Activity and Growth Rate of Raphanus sativus L
Abstract:
The prolific use of antibiotics in agricultural operations is raising concern because it is fed to their
livestock, which is then excreted into the soil. The antibiotic concentration in the soil is producing
antibiotic resistant bacteria. Plants that get exposed to this type of soil get their biochemistry
disrupted. The following study was conducted as an attempt to determine if plant growth rate and
peroxidase activity were two factors that are affected by the presence of antibiotics. To test this out,
a specific amoxicillin– water solution was given to eight treatment plants. These plants were then
compared to eight control plants. By statistically analyzing the data obtained using ANOVA, it was
found that the null hypothesis was supported and that the antibiotic treatment had no significant
effect on either growth or peroxidase activity.
Introduction:
Since the discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century its use has widely prevailed. While its
introduction to the medicine industry has brought many benefits like almost eradicating some
diseases, its use is now bringing concern to public health. Antibiotics are excessively being used that
the possibility of antibiotic resistant bacteria is a major risk. One huge source of antibiotic
consumption comes from the agricultural business. Livestock like swine and poultry are fed
subtherapeutic antibiotics as

Rat–Tail Radish Facts: Most people call the Rat Tail Radish, radish beans. They grow by planting
radish seeds and letting the radish grow. You don't pick the radish when it's ready, you let it flower.
The flowers are actually little, tiny radish beans. They grow sort of like peas. When the flowers are
gone you are left with Radish beans. They look like green beans, but shorter, and taste a little like
radishes. You can also eat the flowers too. It has vitamins C(for collagen), B1, B2, B3, B5, B6,
B9(all for energy production and management), iron, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, and
potassium. Alexandria Squash Facts: It is a summer squash popular in parts of the Middle East. It is
closely related to Zucchini. The skin of the squash is where all the vitamins are. So you have to eat
the skin and all to get all the vitamins. It grows open and allows for easy picking. It is a hybrid that
is somewhat resistant to mildew. The smaller the squash, the tastier it is. You can deep fry it. You
can eat the seeds, leaves, tendrils, and flowers. It has the vitamins, A ( for your eyes), B6(for energy

CANDIDATE NUMBER: *******
EXAM SESSION: May 2015
INSTRUCTOR: April Blaze Design
Research Question:
What is the effect of soil moisture contents on the growth (height) of Raphanus sativus (radish
plants)?
Background Research: What radishes need for optimal germination Full sun position Soil pH of 5.5
to 6.8 Minimum soil temperature of 13°C / 55°F Sowing at around 1.2 cm deep
(Folia)
What is moisture content? The amount of water associated with a given volume or mass of soil
(Soil moisture)
How do you calculate soil moisture concentration? Gravimetric –– dry–weight basis Although this
can be calculated, it is not a necessary calculation in this investigation. (Soil Moisture) Water and
Germination Water with excessive alkalinity or salt content can result in a nutrient imbalance and
poor plant growth. Softened water may contain harmful amounts of sodium. Water that tests high in
total salts should not be used. Salt levels greater than 0.5 millions or 320 parts per million are likely
to cause an imbalance of nutrients.

Belle Radish Lab Report
Discussion
The Belle radish grew best when watered with ph 5 and ph 6. This means that Belle Radish grow
best in slightly acidic soil. The belle radishes did not grow well in in ph 3, in ph 3 the plant stopped
growing after the 6th day. It is said that when a plant grows in acidic soil the plant would start to
develop a yellow color but pH 3 did not develop a yellowish color. Something that was observed
was that the plants had different shades of green, Ph 3, ph 4 and ph 5 were a light shad of green
while ph 5, ph6 and ph 7 were a darker shade of green. One of the leaves of ph 3 (tallest plant) had
died. The leaf died because when the soil is very acidic the plant slowly stops the production of
leaves because of the leak of nutrients the plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was unexpected because it was said that Belle radish grow best in 5.8–6.8ph but when the
experiment was held the plant grew better in ph 4 than it did in ph 5. This was also found surprising
because when soil is too acidic the plant would be shorter since the plant would not have the needed
nutrients available but this experiment does not support that. A human source of error is that
different rules were used and on rulers zero is not right at the tip of the ruler, for some rulers it's a
centimeter away and for others it's 2 centimeters away but that was not consider and so that has
effected the results. Another source of error is that the soil that was used might not have been the
soil to grow this plant and so that could have affected the growth of the plants. In future
experiments, the type of soil would be checked and research on the soil would be done to determine
whether the soil itself would affect the plant in anyway. The same ruler would also be used to
measure all the plants the same way so that the measurement errors are reduced. The hypothesis is
partly supported because slightly acidic plant did make the plant grow

Earthworms And Organic Fertilizers
The radish is an edible root vegetable of the Brassicaceae family. Radishes are great plants for
demonstrating the effects of different levels of plant nutrition, germinating and growing quickly and
reliably. Radish plants take up nutrients from the soil to make food. Soil is rich in essential nutrients
such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; but these nutrients are sometimes not present in the
acceptable amount. Nitrogen is vital because it is a major component of chlorophyll, which is the
compound by which plants use in photosynthesis. It is also a major component of amino acids and
without them plants withers and die. Phosphorus is a component of the complex nucleic acid

the organic fertilizer and worms treatment compared to average growth of radish plants grown with
only soil, earthworms with soil, or only organic fertilizer treatments. Since, all p–values were more
than the alpha level, the results tell us that there is no significant evidence that the average growth of

Eucalyptus Globulus' Effect on the Germination of Radish...
The purpose of the project was to determine whether Eucalyptus globulus had an effect on the
germination of radish seeds. It was hypothesized that Eucalyptus globulus would have a negative
effect on the germination of the seeds and their growth.
Before a seed can germinate it must first shed the seed coat, a protective outer layer that protects the
seed from parasites, injury, and unfavorable temperatures. Inside the seed coat is the embryo which
contains the root and first leaves of the plant, called cotyledons. After the seed coat has been shed
the root emerges first so that it can absorb water and nutrients. After the roots have come out of the
embryo the cotyledons will follow. Some seeds need certain conditions to germinate and go ... Show

Allelopathic chemicals can also exist in soil, affecting the surround plants and those planted
afterwards. Studies have shown that Leucaena leucocephala, a tree promoted for water conservation
and revegetation, contains a toxic amino acid in its leaves and foliage that prevents the growth of
other trees but not its own seedlings. Research has also shown that this species reduces the yield of
wheat and increases the yield of rice. Other allelopathic plants include mango, box elder, broccoli,
and Eucalyptus. A study was conducted at Gomal University that tested the allelopathic effects of
Eucalyptus camaldulensis L. on the germination and seedling growth of wheat. The leaves of E.
camaldulensis trees were washed and dried and then filtered to create a one hundred percent solution
as well as ten percent, fifteen percent, and twenty percent. These solutions were tested on twelve
varieties of wheat. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in germination counts
with increasing levels of Eucalyptus aqueous extract concentration. All twelve varieties of wheat
were adversely affected by the twenty percent concentration of Eucalyptus extract. It was observed
that there was a direct relationship between the number of normal seedlings and the extract
concentration. The results suggested that the E. camaldulensis L. leaf aqueous extract could reduce
normal seedlings even in low concentrations.

The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants
Abstract
Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is
harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish
plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized
that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three
plants––two experimentals and one control––were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap
water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected
negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms
of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a
danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without
efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem.
Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish
plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects
of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a
pH of 7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it
will be possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops.

Why Did Salt Grow In River Essay
The Effect of Salt on Radish Seed Growth along the Nelson River in Ensi county, Indiana.
Autumn Acord
Radish farms along the Nelson river had a recent lack of growth of their radishes. A landfill and a
salt storage facility had recently opened along the river near the farms. Samples from the river were
taken and used to grow radishes to see what caused the lack of growth. The salt storage facility had
leaked into the river, causing samples B and D not grow.

It was in the middle of Nelson River between irrigation pumps. There was an abundance of salt and
it was not able to dissolve or become diluted enough for the plants to grow. This helps prove that the
salt is the reason why the radish seeds were not growing on this farm.
Each seed with Site E water grew on average 7.625 centimeters. Site E was located after Kimmel's
Creek joined in with the river, where Kimmel's Creek brings fresh water and helps dilute or dissolve
the salt. All this data helps find the reason why the farmers are having problems with growing their
crops by the Nelson River.
The hypothesis that was being tested was if the salt facility was leaking salt, then the crops will not
grow. The hypothesis was supported by the data gathered because it proves that the seeds in the sites
located near the salt facility did not grow at all, but the other seeds did when they were not affected.
Site B and D's seeds did not even sprout and they were located either by the salt facility or slightly
downstream. Site Cand E was farther down the river and was not affected by the salt. Site A was

Plant Competition
INTRODUCTION
This experiment was used to show the different types of competition between species. Competition
was defined as being a "relationship between members of the same or different species in which
individuals are adversely affected by those having the same living requirements, such as food or
space" (Competition 2010). There are two different types of competition that we will be observing
during this experiment. The first type would be intraspecific, which means "competition between
same species" (1976). The second type of competition is interspecific, which is defined as
"competition between different species" (1976). These two types of competition have helped us look
at the different types of interactions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with radish seeds and exposed to only high light. The third pot was filled with bean seeds but
exposed to low light. The fourth pot was filled with radish seeds and exposed to low light. The fifth
and final pot was filled with bean and radish seeds. After allowing the plants to grow we then
measured the length of the largest leaf on each plant. We then cut the plants and weighed them. To
measure the leaves we used a standard ruler measuring the largest leaf on each stalk. We then cut the
plants as close to the soil as possible and weighed them individually on a scale.

The purpose of this lab was to see if radiation has an effect on the cultivated radish seeds that we
used. From the observed data that we collected, we were able to conclude that when seeds are
exposed to radiation, it affects how they grow, if there is any growth at all.
Introduction Radiation is an important environmental abiotic factor for plants, and one small section
of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, is called the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR),
provides the energy to drive the light reactions of photosynthesis. Such radiation damages biological

The 50–mrad radish seed never experienced any growth. The 150–mrad radish seed shot up about 4
cm the first week and then the second and third week stayed at the same height. From these
observations we can tell that there was a significant difference between the control and the radish
seeds that were inflected with radiation. The ones that contained radiation either experienced no
growth at all, experienced stunted growth, and were never as tall as the control. I reject both null
hypothesizes, and fail to reject both alternative hypothesizes since the radiation did prove to have an
effect on the radish seeds.
Conclusion
From the obtained data, we were able to fail to reject the alternate hypothesizes. Gamma radiation
levels had effects on the radish seeds. We were able to determine these levels by comparing these
results to the control which was just a radish seed that was never altered by any radiation for as far
as we know.

After two weeks of observation the qualitative results showed that for both Clover and Radish an
estimate of three out of for seeds germinated. There was also no noticeable difference in length
between the two types of plants. When using the Urea treatment the results showed that in both
plants almost all the seeds germinated and both plants grew to the top of the ParafilmTM. When
treating with Rhizobium spp. results show that there was a decrease in germinating seeds compared
to all other treatments. Results also showed that in radish when treating nodules were present. The

(X2=497.80;p=4.50x10–139;df=2) An analysis of variances was performed on the data in order to
identify where was the significant variation on the respective shoot lengths of both species. Results
showed that there was no significant variance in neither of the species between the shoot's length

Radish Growth Experiment
Radish Growth in Ensi County, IN Nelson's Contaminated River
By: Madison Kilzer
There are two of three radish farms in Ensi county, IN have gone through crop failure. The study of
the crop failure is being experimented on so the reason for the failure can be stated. The
investigation was on how well the radish seeds grew in five different types of water taken from
different locations within a five day period. Site A was the control of the experiment so the data
taken on the other sites could be compared to site A. Sites A, C, and E grew while sites B and D did
not grow at all. The salt storage facility has a leak that is causing salt to flow into the river where the

How Does Radish Grow Under Green Light
Discussion:
In the end, my data only partially supported my hypothesis. There was indeed a statistically highly
significant difference in plant height between radish height under red vs blue grow lights as well as a
statistically highly significant difference between radish height under green vs blue lights. However,
my data showed no statistical difference in plant height between radishes grown under green vs red
lights. This being said, my hypothesis was still technically correct because there was a difference
between the height in plants grown under different colored lights.
Surprisingly, the second part of my hypothesis was incorrect about the relationship between radish
plant height and radish plant mass. I had predicted a strong correlation, but there turned out to be no
statistically significant correlation between plant height and plant mass. There was actually an
almost Simpson's Paradox (almost because the data is not actually split) between plant height and
weight when grown under red light and plant height and weight when grown under green light. The
red light seemed to be better for plant growth originally because the mean plant height for red was
higher than that of green, however when you look at plant mass instead of height, green in the clear
victor. This result was so surprising that I did more research to figure out why it was the case. It
turns out that radishes actually grow up (grow their stalks taller) instead of out (expanding their leaf
area) when they are light deprived. The reason why the red ... Show more content on

THE EFFECTS OF AMMONIAAND VINEGAR ON RADISH PLANTS 2
Abstract
INTRODUCTION OF GROUP Plants are one of the most complex organisms; how they grow is
very complex and it is important to see how they grow to even how they die. We first had to propose
a question and test it to see if it was profound enough to test. Our group decided to see how different
chemical substances affect radish plants, and which substance will kill the plant fastest. We planted
8 germinated radish seeds, then put ammonia in 2 of the plants, vinegar in 2 other plants, put both
vinegar and ammonia in 2 other plants, and had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vinegar is also used in diet control because several doses can provide feeling of fullness and
satisfaction. It is also an effective screening tool for cervical cancer because vinegar changes the
color of the tissue that is infected to a color of white so it can be easily noticed. Vinegar is also a
cleaning agent because of its acidic property it can dissolve mineral deposits from glass. Vinegar is a
very useful chemical substance but at the same time a very acidic and corrosive compound (Harris,
2011).
THE EFFECTS OF AMMONIAAND VINEGAR ON RADISH PLANTS 4
Methods
The group planted a total of 8 separate pots of seeds. Two pots consisted of only seeds and those
were the control group of this experiment. The other plants also consisted of radish seeds but had
chemicals ammonia, vinegar, or a combination of both applied once weekly with 30ml of water
being applied daily (except on the weekends). As a result, there were a total of 8 pots. Two of each
variable and two of the controls. Right after all the seeds were germinated in petri–dishes they were
put into pots, covered with soil, and labeled to prevent confusion.
2 pots were labeled as: CONTROL – One of which was labeled control 1 and the other control 2
2 pots were labeled as: VINEGAR –One of which was labeled vinegar 1 and the other vinegar 2

Auxin Is Better Than Natural Auxin Analysis
Plant hormones are chemical signals released by a tissue and delivered to a receptor tissue. Auxin is
the hormone most commonly found in plants. Auxin regulates and aids in the development of plants
(Kazan 2013). The acid growth hypothesis states that an acidic ph will enhance the effects of auxin
in seed development and plant growth. Radish seeds were planted in acidic soil and administered
natural and synthetic auxin in order to test for the effect of synthetic auxin in an acidic soil on plant
growth. The reason for this experiment is to test whether or not synthetic (man–made) auxin works
better than natural auxin in growth development. It was found that the natural kind of auxin works
better in an acidic environment than synthetic auxin.

After the process of pollination and the development of the embryo stops, a seed is formed. The seed
will remain dormant until it comes in contact with water which causes gibberellins (a type of plant
hormone) to be released which will trigger the layer covering the embryo to produce enzymes
needed to break down the endosperm and release the nutrients that are stored there. Those nutrients
will be used by the embryo for growth. Hormones are chemical substances that help and regulate
plant growth and aid in seed germination (Gutzler and Brewer 2013). There are seven different types
of plant hormones and they all trigger specific reactions. One of the first hormones discovered in
plants was Auxin. Auxin is known to aid in stem elongation and shape direction of growth (Gutzler
and Brewer 2013). There are many different kinds of auxin. Indoleacetic acid (IAA) and
Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) are two of the most common types, both will be used in the

The Bright Radish Greenhouse Experiment : How Does...
The Vibrant Radish Greenhouse experiment
Problem: How does different colors of light affect the growth of radishes?
Background: The wavelength of light is the distance between the crest to crest, or trough to trough.
Studies have shown that red lights incident absorbed the most after the reflected light was absorbed
into the plant 's chloroplasts. This led me to choose the color of red for the cellophane which I
thought would be the best choice
Hypothesis: If the cellophane color is red, then the radishes would most likely grow the most.
Recently, I had read an article on how different colored light affect plant growth. Red supposedly
released some substance that improved the growth of the plant.
Explanation to our experiment: To test our hypothesis, we made greenhouses and we grew radishes
under it. To make different colors of light affect the growth, we wrapped colored cellophane around
the greenhouses so when the sun's rays strike the greenhouse (passing through because it's
translucent) they will carry the color. The method which we measure the group was by mass and
height. However with the problem that measuring the mass of the radish would take pulling out its
roots, we only measured on the last day. Our height was measured throughout each of our three days
of measuring and the greenhouse with the best radishes (mass and heightwise) would be concluded
as the result.

became flooded, spacing issues eg: When these seeds were planted it was not realised that they
could've spread out more this could've caused spacing issues in the patch, there may have been
leftover manure or special plant growing agents in the dirt from the last experiment that was
conducted in the patch, seeds washing away from uneven dirt, halfway through the experiment we
changed the amount of water that the plants were given this may have resulted in a spike in growth
and although we measured the depth of the seeds with a ruler they could've planted them deeper or

Black Tea Lab Report
Introduction:
The purpose of this lab is to see if black tea helps as a natural fertilizer to enhance the growth of the
radish plants. In order for a seedling to grow into a healthy mature plant, it must have nourishments
like water and nutrients. Tannic acid and nutrients are some of the nutritional ingredients in black
tea, when these nutrients are added to soil it becomes a more habitable place for the seedlings to
develop into plants. Tea leaves also have nitrogen in them, nitrogen is a vital nutrient for plants to
grow.
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab is to see if black tea mixed with water will help increase the rate of growth
for a radish plant, as appose to the use of solely water.

them on the top of each plant (except for Devonte)
Discussion Section:
In the lab, all of the plants had a constant rate of growth because all four plants were newly planted.
The plants were taken care of and fed in the same way, so the predicted outcome was that they
would grow at the same rate for the duration of the lab.
Conclusion:
This lab was conducted to see what happens when black tea and water are used to enhance the
growth of a radish plant. The hypothesis was that the plants that were given the black tea and water
mixture were going to grow faster than the control plant (Devonte). The hypothesis was partially
correct because all the plants grew substantially large closer to the end of the lab. Plant 2 (Bravo)
started to wither away and die because it was over fed, and eventually drowned in water. The other
two plants grew at a consistent pace and developed into healthy mature plants. To sum up, the lab
that was conducted was successful in the sense that two out of the four plants grew rapidly without

hypothesized that if a radish seed was placed into various dishes that contained a different levels of
sodium, it would not grow in a solution with a heightened amount of sodium present opposed to a
sodium–free solution. The experiment began with counting the endless amount of radish seeds in
group of sixty, then dividing them into six groups of ten. Paper towels were folded into patches and
placed inside six petri dishes. The paper towels will serve as the soil or bases for the seeds on their

Looking at how the data in the fig. 5 you see that the control always seems to be one step ahead then
the ozonated radishes. Now if we remove the zeros it's a slightly different story. Looking at figure 4
we see that the average for day 5 that the ozonated radishes has a higher plant average. This is only
because with the 4 zeros being removed the 1.1, 1.58, 1.9 all weigh down the average for the whole

Radish Seeds Lab Report
Title: How Does Electromagnetic Radiation Effect the Time it Takes a Radish Seed to Germinate?
The independent variable was the microwaved seeds. The dependent variable was the time it takes
for the seeds to germinate.
Purpose: To observe the effect of electromagnetic radiation on the germination of radish seeds.
Background: If you plant a seed, water it, give it sunlight, and good air a plant will grow. Did you
know that there is a baby plant inside every seed called an embryo? Seeds are made up of three
things, an embryo, the endosperm, and the cotyledon. The embryo in the baby plant, the endosperm
acts as a food source for the embryo, and the cotyledon are leaf like structures that support the
endosperm. The seed coat acts as a barrier that protects the inside of the seed.("Parts of a Seed and
Their Functions." CropsReview.Com. )(1)
The protection the seed coat provides varies in all seeds. Some seeds may need hard seed coats to
survive while other seeds only need a soft, fragile one. Due to the theory of evolution seed coats
have been able to adapt to their environments in order to survive. For example plants in the desert
would need a tough seed coat to protect against premature germination and extreme dryness.

Lab Report On Cellular Respiration
Abstract
This experiment consisted of 3 respirometers, one with ants, one with radish seeds, and one with
glass beads. Each with 4 pellets of KOH and a piece of cotton. They were placed in a water bath that
was at 75 degrees fahrenheit. A bubble at the end of the respirometer was measured every five
minutes, and this distance showed how well the organisms were respiring. The radish seeds were
able to do the most cellular respiration in 25 minutes, with the ants being a close second, and the
control respirometer of the glass beads doing the least.
Introduction
Cellular respiration is the group metabolic reactions that happen in the cell of living organism that
creates adenosine triphosphate, ATP, from biochemical energy. The formula for cellular respiration
is C6H12O6 +6O26CO2+6H2O+ATP. This formula means glucose and oxygen are turned into
water, carbon dioxide and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) energy through chemical reactions. Cellular
respiration occurs in all cells which allows them to grow. Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. Sativus
seed, also known as radish seed, undergo cellular respiration because they are not yet able to
perform photosynthesis, which is how plants create their energy. Hymenoptera
formicidae, commonly known as ants, undergo cellular respiration to produce the energy they need
to live. The potassium hydroxide (KOH) tablets were used to turn the gaseous carbon dioxide into
soild carbon dioxide. If the carbon dioxide was in a gasesous it would cause the

Growing a garden
The black bean seeds were planted in a pot, which contained soil from the backyard vegetable
garden and cow manure. The pot was placed outside, in the shade of other plants in the backyard. By
day eight the seeds had not germinated; therefore the pot was moved where it would get more than
six hours of direct sunlight a day, which was the suggested amount required (Grow This, 2016, para.
3). With enough sunlight and the soil being watered each day the seeds germinated by day sixteen.
The growth then became very rapid; however, there were signs of bugs eating the leaves due to the
holes that could be seen. A bug spray was applied to the plant in the hope that the plant will survive.
This spray was used twice a week and helped keep the bugs away and allowed the leaves to continue
to grow.
The black bean plant was exposed to a hot and dry Summer. By planting the black bean in a pot, it
meant that shade could be applied when the harsh weather was due to arrive (Tuton, 2010, para. 3).
The pot was relocated on days which would damage the growth of the plant and then returned to the
previous location when the weather cooled down.
The stems of the black bean plant measured in at 15 centimetres and sticks were added to help with
the growth. However,

more than one hypothesis. The hypotheses for this experiment are as follows: The use of fertilizer
solution increases radish seed germination and growth. The use of salt solution decreases radish seed

The seeds soaked in the salt solution did not have any change in appearance while the seeds exposed
to the vinegar solution generally appeared to become darker in color and shriveled. For the 10%
fertilizer solution only one replication produced germination (6 out of the 10 seeds in the petri dish
germinated). The seeds that did not germinate for the 10% fertilizer solution appeared darker in
color. Seeds exposed to distilled water (control) had germination across every replication group and
produced some fairly large sprouts. The 10% soap solution seeds also had germination in every
replication group, but the size of the sprouts were not as large as the ones in the control group.
Figure 1 on page 4 is a table that shows the number of seeds germinated across all replications,

A seed is the plants way of reproducing and allows the plant to produce plants of the same kind. A
seed is a developing plant that is bounded by a seed coat that covers the seed and usually has stored
food and nutrients inside. Seeds allow the plant to reproduce so they don't become extinct. Radish
seeds are rapid growing seeds that grow best in full sunlight with their own space, soil with a pH
level of 6.5–7, water with a pH level of 7, and cool/moist soil. Lemonade has a pH level of 2.5 and
is acidic, so the seed most likely will grow at a very slow rate compared to a seed with normal tap
water. Milk of magnesia has a pH level of 10.5 which is more basic and higher than the pH level of
water, the substance radish seeds grow best in. Therefore, the milk of magnesia might be too strong
for the seeds and will cause them to either grow extremely slow or not at all. The effect of lemonade
and milk of magnesia on seed germination can be measured by using a ruler and measuring the
sprout growth of each seed in centimeters daily.
Question
Will lemonade and milk of magnesia affect radish seed germination and growth?
Hypothesis
If I have 5ml of lemonade and 5ml of milk of magnesia and dilute each liquid with 5ml of tap water
and apply each solution twice to ten radish seeds, I believe the seeds will grow at a slower rate than
radish seeds with 10ml of tap water.
Materials
–30 radish seeds –Paper Towels
–3 Petri dishes (Top and bottom)

Radish Seed Lab Report SEO

  • 1. Radish Seed Lab Report In generalization, there are a multitude of factors that could potentially influence the germination of a radish seed. This lab thoroughly exhibits the effect of water amounts on the germination of a radish seed. There is indeed an in–depth science behind the projected results, and overall of the effects water has on the germination of radish seeds, and the growth of plants in particular. Radishes themselves are moisture–loving plants; therefore, it is significant that they receive an adequate amount of water, allowing the soil to be moist, but not overly saturated (Biology Coach, 2015). In general, water is significant for the health of a plant in the way it transports important nutrients throughout the plant. From this point, nutrients are drawn from the soil and used by the plant. Seed germination itself is defined as the process where the seed sprout for growing, and future development into a plant. In order to germinate, the seed must have its essential needs met until it is capable of doing so: water, temperature, and sun. Therefore, during its early stages of growth, the seed will rely upon the food supplies stores within it, until it is large enough for its own leaves to begin making food through photosynthesis (Biology of Plants, 2016). Initially, the process of germination begins with the absorption of water y there seed, therefore, this absorption of water then activates an enzyme that increases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This then not only prevents the germination of the seed; however, if the plant were to initially germinate, it would be unable to grow any further, as without enough water, photosynthesis, nutrient transfer, or transpiration would be unable to occur; therefore, the plant would be unable to sustain (Growing Anything, ... • 3. Radish Plants Lab Report A plant's growth ability is dependent on its ability to acquire the resources it needs to survive. Competition such as interspecific and intraspecific, limiting resources, and population density affect the fitness level of a plant. This experiment was conducted in order to test the capability of collards and radishes to grow in manipulated densities under interspecific and intraspecific competition. I hypothesized that both collard and radish plants will grow more efficiently in single species pots under low–density conditions. I also hypothesized that in the mixed species plots the radishes will be more fit to survive and grow better than the collard plants in both the high and low–density pots. Both high and low density and single and mixed species plots were planted and results were observed. There was a significant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The low–density radish–collard mix pots contained four seeds of radishes and four seeds of collards. The high–density radish–collard pots contained 32 seeds of each species. While our group replicated this 3x2 design four times to total 24 posts, we incorporated the whole class data. Therefore, there were 16 replicates for each treatment. For each pot, we filled soil up until about one inch from the top. We placed the seeds in the pot and piled on around 2 or 3 cm of soil on top. In 3 species levels, seeds were spaced as evenly as possible. In the mixed species pot, the two species were alternated so that each one had the same access to space and nutrients at the other. For each pot, we wrote down our section number, group name, and the contents of the pot. Our group worked at the first bench in the greenhouse and also contained our pots that were spread out evenly in four rows. Our pots stayed in the greenhouse for about five weeks, captured as much sunlight as they could, and got their water source from sprinklers that automatically came on twice a ... • 5. Effect Of Competition Lab: Intraspecific And Interspecific... Competition Lab Intraspecific and Interspecific Competition Objectives: 1. To assess the effect of competition among plants at different population densities on the growth of plants 2. To assess the relative competitiveness of two species of plants when they are planted together Background: Competition is an interaction between organisms in which both are harmed by the interaction. Competition can occur among members of the same species and is called intraspecific competition or it can occur between members of different species, in which case is called interspecific competition. Competition of animals can involve: fights over food, water, nesting sites or mates; or may involve less overt forms of conflict such as greater height allowing ... After three weeks, remove the plants from each pot, including roots. 8. Weigh the total biomass produced from each pot, determine the average biomass per plant, and record on the data sheet. 11.3 Interspecific Competition – Radish and Wheat 1. Obtain radish and wheat seeds that have been soaked so that they are beginning to sprout. 2. Obtain three 8 cm (3–inch) pots and fill to within 2 cm of the top with sand. Press down gently. 3. Carefully place sprouting seeds on the sand and cover with about 1 cm of additional sand as follows: In pot 1, plant one radish seed and one wheat seed. In pot 2, plant ten radish seeds and ten wheat seeds. In pot 3, plant twenty radish seeds and twenty wheat seeds. 4. Pour water into the pot until it begins to run out the bottom. 5. Place in a warm, well–lit place. 6. Examine daily and water the plants when the surface becomes dry. 7. After three weeks, remove the plants from each pot, including roots. 8. Separately weigh the total biomass of radish and wheat plants produced from each pot, determine the average biomass per plant for both the radish and wheat plants, and record on the data ... • 7. Intraspecific Competition Lab Report This experiment was performed to give a better idea of interspecific competition and intraspecific competition between radish seeds and wheat seeds at high and low densities. By planting two species only pots and two combined species pots our results showed that the radish seeds performed better at both interspecific and intraspecific competitions and concluded that the lower the pot density the more resources and growth. 32 radish seeds were evenly planted in pot A1 followed by 32 wheat seeds planted in pot A2 and 16 of each radish and wheat seeds combined (32 total) planted in pot AB1. We repeated this procedure again but this time planting 96 radish seeds evenly in pot A2, 96 wheat seeds in pot B2 and 48 of each radish and wheat seeds combined (96 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For both interspecific and intraspecific competition the radish did its best however at the lowest density of 32. (Figure 1) These results did support our hypothesis that the lower the density the better the growth and the radish would thrive better at intraspecific competition however was refuted with us predicting that wheat would do better in interspecific competition. These results can possibly be explained by the idea of density–dependent growth meaning that as you increase population, resources such as light, soil, and water decrease and vice versa (Walsh and Walsh 2015). Also a possible explanation for our results is that the radish shoots were longer, taller, more in number versus the wheat shoots that were short, broad and few in number. The theory of allocating more roots if the there is less sun and bigger shots if there is less nutrient rich soil is shown in the experiment of intraspecific and interspecific competition of beans, in the end that beans that had more competition and the soil was poor had bigger leaves at the expense of its neighbors (Mania et al. ... The supplies will include an 8ft x 5ft garden bed, radish seeds, shovels, soil, water and a good area to garden and dig. I will plant a radish garden. In my front yard. I will plant one because we need to help the environment. I will start planting September 18th 2017. How, digging at a little stop, then making sure the dirt and soil is good, then start filling it up with soil then by planting the radish seeds. The radish seeds would need to be 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, spaced approximately 1 inch apart, in rows 12 to 18 inches apart. This garden will help the environment by supplying food for other small animals once the garden is fully grown. Since we are planting it ourself it makes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people eat radishes, at my house, so that's another good thing. It is a healthy vegetable. My health will improve because I will be basically exercising due to gardening and digging. I will also be out in the hot sun so it will actually make me sweat. The problems that will occur can be that animals or insects are eating the radishes. The animals eating it will not let my garden grow to the expected growth it's supposed to be at. Or that the radishes I forget to water them one day when they're supposed to be watered daily. Another problem that can occur is if it were to rain, and the rain overly watered them. A problem can occur, if it gets very cloudy because radishes needs lots of sun. That is just some of the many problems that can happen during the planting and growing process. Saftey issues that should be considered during the project is making sure you don't get any parasites. The safety equipment I will have during the project will be shoes. I will need some gloves because I really don't want to dirty my hands. Some other things I will need is to make sure I have proper clothes to dig and get messy! I will get some glasses in case I get dirt or soil in my eyes. • 11. Intraspecific Competition Lab Report Jennifer Aguilar April 11, 2016 Agroecology INTRODUCTION: For this lab the concept of intraspecific and interspecific competition was used in order to carry out this experiment using seeds kale and radish seeds. Intraspecific competition is when the many of the same type of species, for example kale, compete for the same resources such as sunlight, water, and nutrients. Yes, they are the same, but in order to survive, and thrive, they must compete with those around them. Intrespecific is different from intraspecific, this is when two or more types of the same species, in this case – kale and radish, are growing near each other and compete for the same nutrients as listed above (Million, 2013). These competitions do not stop at just kale and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could also explain why the intra radish seeds were the smallest – because there were too many seeds competing for nutrients. For the radish weight, the interspecific (6R, 4K) did the best. This could be because there were more radish seeds, than there were kale seeds, but not enough that they would have to compete to survive but enough that it was able to overtake and the kale. • 13. The Influence Of Amoxicillin On Peroxidase Activity And... Amoxicillin has no Effect on Peroxidase Activity and Growth Rate of Raphanus sativus L Abstract: The prolific use of antibiotics in agricultural operations is raising concern because it is fed to their livestock, which is then excreted into the soil. The antibiotic concentration in the soil is producing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Plants that get exposed to this type of soil get their biochemistry disrupted. The following study was conducted as an attempt to determine if plant growth rate and peroxidase activity were two factors that are affected by the presence of antibiotics. To test this out, a specific amoxicillin– water solution was given to eight treatment plants. These plants were then compared to eight control plants. By statistically analyzing the data obtained using ANOVA, it was found that the null hypothesis was supported and that the antibiotic treatment had no significant effect on either growth or peroxidase activity. Introduction: Since the discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century its use has widely prevailed. While its introduction to the medicine industry has brought many benefits like almost eradicating some diseases, its use is now bringing concern to public health. Antibiotics are excessively being used that the possibility of antibiotic resistant bacteria is a major risk. One huge source of antibiotic consumption comes from the agricultural business. The belle radishes did not grow well in in ph 3, in ph 3 the plant stopped growing after the 6th day. It is said that when a plant grows in acidic soil the plant would start to develop a yellow color but pH 3 did not develop a yellowish color. Something that was observed was that the plants had different shades of green, Ph 3, ph 4 and ph 5 were a light shad of green while ph 5, ph6 and ph 7 were a darker shade of green. One of the leaves of ph 3 (tallest plant) had died. The leaf died because when the soil is very acidic the plant slowly stops the production of leaves because of the leak of nutrients the plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was unexpected because it was said that Belle radish grow best in 5.8–6.8ph but when the experiment was held the plant grew better in ph 4 than it did in ph 5. This was also found surprising because when soil is too acidic the plant would be shorter since the plant would not have the needed nutrients available but this experiment does not support that. A human source of error is that different rules were used and on rulers zero is not right at the tip of the ruler, for some rulers it's a centimeter away and for others it's 2 centimeters away but that was not consider and so that has effected the results. Another source of error is that the soil that was used might not have been the soil to grow this plant and so that could have affected the growth of the plants. In future experiments, the type of soil would be checked and research on the soil would be done to determine whether the soil itself would affect the plant in anyway. The same ruler would also be used to measure all the plants the same way so that the measurement errors are reduced. Radishes are great plants for demonstrating the effects of different levels of plant nutrition, germinating and growing quickly and reliably. Radish plants take up nutrients from the soil to make food. Soil is rich in essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium; but these nutrients are sometimes not present in the acceptable amount. Nitrogen is vital because it is a major component of chlorophyll, which is the compound by which plants use in photosynthesis. It is also a major component of amino acids and without them plants withers and die. For growing Radishes with and without fertilizer, you need six four inch starter pots filled lightly with soil, then determine which pots will be the control, and which will be the test group. The easiest way to keep track of these two groups is by labeling them, using tags to identifying the date, name of plant, and whether it is your control or test. • 29. Eucalyptus Globulus' Effect on the Germination of Radish... The purpose of the project was to determine whether Eucalyptus globulus had an effect on the germination of radish seeds. It was hypothesized that Eucalyptus globulus would have a negative effect on the germination of the seeds and their growth. Before a seed can germinate it must first shed the seed coat, a protective outer layer that protects the seed from parasites, injury, and unfavorable temperatures. Inside the seed coat is the embryo which contains the root and first leaves of the plant, called cotyledons. After the seed coat has been shed the root emerges first so that it can absorb water and nutrients. After the roots have come out of the embryo the cotyledons will follow. Allelopathic chemicals can also exist in soil, affecting the surround plants and those planted afterwards. Studies have shown that Leucaena leucocephala, a tree promoted for water conservation and revegetation, contains a toxic amino acid in its leaves and foliage that prevents the growth of other trees but not its own seedlings. Research has also shown that this species reduces the yield of wheat and increases the yield of rice. Other allelopathic plants include mango, box elder, broccoli, and Eucalyptus. A study was conducted at Gomal University that tested the allelopathic effects of Eucalyptus camaldulensis L. on the germination and seedling growth of wheat. The leaves of E. camaldulensis trees were washed and dried and then filtered to create a one hundred percent solution as well as ten percent, fifteen percent, and twenty percent. These solutions were tested on twelve varieties of wheat. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in germination counts with increasing levels of Eucalyptus aqueous extract concentration. All twelve varieties of wheat were adversely affected by the twenty percent concentration of Eucalyptus extract. It was observed that there was a direct relationship between the number of normal seedlings and the extract concentration. The results suggested that the E. camaldulensis L. leaf aqueous extract could reduce normal seedlings even in low concentrations. Eucalyptus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants Abstract Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three plants––two experimentals and one control––were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem. Introduction The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a pH of 7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it will be possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Autumn Acord Radish farms along the Nelson river had a recent lack of growth of their radishes. A landfill and a salt storage facility had recently opened along the river near the farms. Samples from the river were taken and used to grow radishes to see what caused the lack of growth. The salt storage facility had leaked into the river, causing samples B and D not grow. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was in the middle of Nelson River between irrigation pumps. There was an abundance of salt and it was not able to dissolve or become diluted enough for the plants to grow. This helps prove that the salt is the reason why the radish seeds were not growing on this farm. Each seed with Site E water grew on average 7.625 centimeters. Site E was located after Kimmel's Creek joined in with the river, where Kimmel's Creek brings fresh water and helps dilute or dissolve the salt. All this data helps find the reason why the farmers are having problems with growing their crops by the Nelson River. The hypothesis that was being tested was if the salt facility was leaking salt, then the crops will not grow. The hypothesis was supported by the data gathered because it proves that the seeds in the sites located near the salt facility did not grow at all, but the other seeds did when they were not affected. From the observed data that we collected, we were able to conclude that when seeds are exposed to radiation, it affects how they grow, if there is any growth at all. Introduction Radiation is an important environmental abiotic factor for plants, and one small section of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum, is called the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), provides the energy to drive the light reactions of photosynthesis. Such radiation damages biological tissues by detaching electrons from the atoms that make up organic molecules. The results include radiation poisoning, cancer, and elevated mutation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 50–mrad radish seed never experienced any growth. The 150–mrad radish seed shot up about 4 cm the first week and then the second and third week stayed at the same height. From these observations we can tell that there was a significant difference between the control and the radish seeds that were inflected with radiation. The ones that contained radiation either experienced no growth at all, experienced stunted growth, and were never as tall as the control. I reject both null hypothesizes, and fail to reject both alternative hypothesizes since the radiation did prove to have an effect on the radish seeds. Conclusion From the obtained data, we were able to fail to reject the alternate hypothesizes. Gamma radiation levels had effects on the radish seeds. • 45. How Does Radish Grow Under Green Light Discussion: In the end, my data only partially supported my hypothesis. There was indeed a statistically highly significant difference in plant height between radish height under red vs blue grow lights as well as a statistically highly significant difference between radish height under green vs blue lights. However, my data showed no statistical difference in plant height between radishes grown under green vs red lights. This being said, my hypothesis was still technically correct because there was a difference between the height in plants grown under different colored lights. Surprisingly, the second part of my hypothesis was incorrect about the relationship between radish plant height and radish plant mass. I had predicted a strong correlation, but there turned out to be no statistically significant correlation between plant height and plant mass. There was actually an almost Simpson's Paradox (almost because the data is not actually split) between plant height and weight when grown under red light and plant height and weight when grown under green light. The red light seemed to be better for plant growth originally because the mean plant height for red was higher than that of green, however when you look at plant mass instead of height, green in the clear victor. This result was so surprising that I did more research to figure out why it was the case. It turns out that radishes actually grow up (grow their stalks taller) instead of out (expanding their leaf area) when they are light deprived. The reason why the red ... THE EFFECTS OF AMMONIAAND VINEGAR ON RADISH PLANTS 4 Methods The group planted a total of 8 separate pots of seeds. Two pots consisted of only seeds and those were the control group of this experiment. The other plants also consisted of radish seeds but had chemicals ammonia, vinegar, or a combination of both applied once weekly with 30ml of water being applied daily (except on the weekends). As a result, there were a total of 8 pots. Two of each variable and two of the controls. Right after all the seeds were germinated in petri–dishes they were put into pots, covered with soil, and labeled to prevent confusion. 2 pots were labeled as: CONTROL – One of which was labeled control 1 and the other control 2 2 pots were labeled as: VINEGAR –One of which was labeled vinegar 1 and the other vinegar 2 2 pots were labeled as: AMMONIA –One of which was labeled ammonia 1 and the ... • 49. Auxin Is Better Than Natural Auxin Analysis Plant hormones are chemical signals released by a tissue and delivered to a receptor tissue. Auxin is the hormone most commonly found in plants. Auxin regulates and aids in the development of plants (Kazan 2013). The acid growth hypothesis states that an acidic ph will enhance the effects of auxin in seed development and plant growth. Radish seeds were planted in acidic soil and administered natural and synthetic auxin in order to test for the effect of synthetic auxin in an acidic soil on plant growth. The reason for this experiment is to test whether or not synthetic (man–made) auxin works better than natural auxin in growth development. It was found that the natural kind of auxin works better in an acidic environment than synthetic auxin. Introduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the process of pollination and the development of the embryo stops, a seed is formed. The seed will remain dormant until it comes in contact with water which causes gibberellins (a type of plant hormone) to be released which will trigger the layer covering the embryo to produce enzymes needed to break down the endosperm and release the nutrients that are stored there. Those nutrients will be used by the embryo for growth. Hormones are chemical substances that help and regulate plant growth and aid in seed germination (Gutzler and Brewer 2013). There are seven different types of plant hormones and they all trigger specific reactions. One of the first hormones discovered in plants was Auxin. Auxin is known to aid in stem elongation and shape direction of growth (Gutzler and Brewer 2013). There are many different kinds of auxin. Indoleacetic acid (IAA) and Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) are two of the most common types, both will be used in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. The Bright Radish Greenhouse Experiment : How Does... The Vibrant Radish Greenhouse experiment Problem: How does different colors of light affect the growth of radishes? Background: The wavelength of light is the distance between the crest to crest, or trough to trough. Studies have shown that red lights incident absorbed the most after the reflected light was absorbed into the plant 's chloroplasts. This led me to choose the color of red for the cellophane which I thought would be the best choice Hypothesis: If the cellophane color is red, then the radishes would most likely grow the most. Recently, I had read an article on how different colored light affect plant growth. Red supposedly released some substance that improved the growth of the plant. Explanation to our experiment: To test our hypothesis, we made greenhouses and we grew radishes under it. To make different colors of light affect the growth, we wrapped colored cellophane around the greenhouses so when the sun's rays strike the greenhouse (passing through because it's translucent) they will carry the color. The method which we measure the group was by mass and height. However with the problem that measuring the mass of the radish would take pulling out its roots, we only measured on the last day. Our height was measured throughout each of our three days of measuring and the greenhouse with the best radishes (mass and heightwise) would be concluded as the result. Scarlet Globe Radish Essay The aim of this practical was to test whether a Scarlet Globe Radish will grow higher in cm when watered using different types of water and the hypothesis was that scarlet globe radishes should grow higher when watered with sparkling water as it contains co2 however that hypothesis was proven incorrect. From results it can now be concluded that the control patch surprisingly produced the highest plants in terms of height with an average ground to leaf height of 2.2 cm while the sparkling water patch produced 1.86cm and the filtered water patch with an average height of 1.18. However, from research it was shown that sparkling water was more likely to make radishes grow at a faster rate. A faster growth rate would've made the radishes taller ... In order for a seedling to grow into a healthy mature plant, it must have nourishments like water and nutrients. Tannic acid and nutrients are some of the nutritional ingredients in black tea, when these nutrients are added to soil it becomes a more habitable place for the seedlings to develop into plants. Tea leaves also have nitrogen in them, nitrogen is a vital nutrient for plants to grow. Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to see if black tea mixed with water will help increase the rate of growth for a radish plant, as appose to the use of solely water. Question: How does black tea affect the growth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Poured 15 ml of tea water into Bravo 9. Poured 10 ml of tea water substance into Charlie 10. The plants were taken care of and fed in the same way, so the predicted outcome was that they would grow at the same rate for the duration of the lab. Conclusion: This lab was conducted to see what happens when black tea and water are used to enhance the growth of a radish plant. The hypothesis was that the plants that were given the black tea and water mixture were going to grow faster than the control plant (Devonte). The hypothesis was partially correct because all the plants grew substantially large closer to the end of the lab. Plant 2 (Bravo) started to wither away and die because it was over fed, and eventually drowned in water. The other two plants grew at a consistent pace and developed into healthy mature plants. To sum up, the lab that was conducted was successful in the sense that two out of the four plants grew rapidly without the use of enhancements or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead of using different types of flora, we resorted to the use of radish seeds. We hypothesized that if a radish seed was placed into various dishes that contained a different levels of sodium, it would not grow in a solution with a heightened amount of sodium present opposed to a sodium–free solution. The experiment began with counting the endless amount of radish seeds in group of sixty, then dividing them into six groups of ten. • 61. Annotated Water In this modern world, people need more efficient ways to grow food due to increased population. In an effort to increase food production, scientists are testing novel methods of increasing plant growth. A technology of interest is ozonated water. Ozonated water is infusing more oxygen into water. Infusing oxygen into water is accomplished by using a machine called an ozonator which adds more oxygen into water. The theory behind ozonated water is that ozonated water provides oxygen to the root of the plant."Ozone improves the respiratory process [of the plant] at the cellular level,"(Oz– air.). Looking at how the data in the fig. 5 you see that the control always seems to be one step ahead then the ozonated radishes. Now if we remove the zeros it's a slightly different story. Looking at figure 4 we see that the average for day 5 that the ozonated radishes has a higher plant average. This is only because with the 4 zeros being removed the 1.1, 1.58, 1.9 all weigh down the average for the whole chart. Also, I noticed that in figure 6 that the gap between the two has shrunken drastically. This is because the four zeros wore down the ozonated bar down compared to only one zero in the control group. • 65. Radish Seeds Lab Report Title: How Does Electromagnetic Radiation Effect the Time it Takes a Radish Seed to Germinate? The independent variable was the microwaved seeds. The dependent variable was the time it takes for the seeds to germinate. Purpose: To observe the effect of electromagnetic radiation on the germination of radish seeds. Background: If you plant a seed, water it, give it sunlight, and good air a plant will grow. Did you know that there is a baby plant inside every seed called an embryo? Seeds are made up of three things, an embryo, the endosperm, and the cotyledon. The embryo in the baby plant, the endosperm acts as a food source for the embryo, and the cotyledon are leaf like structures that support the endosperm. The seed coat acts as a barrier that protects the inside of the seed.("Parts of a Seed and Their Functions." CropsReview.Com. )(1) The protection the seed coat provides varies in all seeds. Some seeds may need hard seed coats to survive while other seeds only need a soft, fragile one. Due to the theory of evolution seed coats have been able to adapt to their environments in order to survive. For example plants in the desert would need a tough seed coat to protect against premature germination and extreme dryness. (DesertUSA. "Desert Seeds." • 69. Lab Report On Cellular Respiration Abstract This experiment consisted of 3 respirometers, one with ants, one with radish seeds, and one with glass beads. Each with 4 pellets of KOH and a piece of cotton. They were placed in a water bath that was at 75 degrees fahrenheit. A bubble at the end of the respirometer was measured every five minutes, and this distance showed how well the organisms were respiring. The radish seeds were able to do the most cellular respiration in 25 minutes, with the ants being a close second, and the control respirometer of the glass beads doing the least. Introduction Cellular respiration is the group metabolic reactions that happen in the cell of living organism that creates adenosine triphosphate, ATP, from biochemical energy. The formula for cellular respiration is C6H12O6 +6O26CO2+6H2O+ATP. This formula means glucose and oxygen are turned into water, carbon dioxide and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) energy through chemical reactions. Cellular respiration occurs in all cells which allows them to grow. Raphanus raphanistrum subsp. Sativus seed, also known as radish seed, undergo cellular respiration because they are not yet able to perform photosynthesis, which is how plants create their energy. Hymenoptera formicidae, commonly known as ants, undergo cellular respiration to produce the energy they need to live. Growing a garden The black bean seeds were planted in a pot, which contained soil from the backyard vegetable garden and cow manure. The pot was placed outside, in the shade of other plants in the backyard. By day eight the seeds had not germinated; therefore the pot was moved where it would get more than six hours of direct sunlight a day, which was the suggested amount required (Grow This, 2016, para. 3). With enough sunlight and the soil being watered each day the seeds germinated by day sixteen. The growth then became very rapid; however, there were signs of bugs eating the leaves due to the holes that could be seen. A bug spray was applied to the plant in the hope that the plant will survive. This spray was used twice a week and helped keep the bugs away and allowed the leaves to continue to grow. The black bean plant was exposed to a hot and dry Summer. By planting the black bean in a pot, it meant that shade could be applied when the harsh weather was due to arrive (Tuton, 2010, para. 3). The pot was relocated on days which would damage the growth of the plant and then returned to the previous location when the weather cooled down. • 78. The Effect Of Milk And Milk Of Magnesia On Seed Germination Background A seed is the plants way of reproducing and allows the plant to produce plants of the same kind. A seed is a developing plant that is bounded by a seed coat that covers the seed and usually has stored food and nutrients inside. Seeds allow the plant to reproduce so they don't become extinct. Radish seeds are rapid growing seeds that grow best in full sunlight with their own space, soil with a pH level of 6.5–7, water with a pH level of 7, and cool/moist soil. Lemonade has a pH level of 2.5 and is acidic, so the seed most likely will grow at a very slow rate compared to a seed with normal tap water. Milk of magnesia has a pH level of 10.5 which is more basic and higher than the pH level of water, the substance radish seeds grow best in. Therefore, the milk of magnesia might be too strong for the seeds and will cause them to either grow extremely slow or not at all. The effect of lemonade and milk of magnesia on seed germination can be measured by using a ruler and measuring the sprout growth of each seed in centimeters daily. Question Will lemonade and milk of magnesia affect radish seed germination and growth? Hypothesis If I have 5ml of lemonade and 5ml of milk of magnesia and dilute each liquid with 5ml of tap water and apply each solution twice to ten radish seeds, I believe the seeds will grow at a slower rate than radish seeds with 10ml of tap water.
